THE GREAT PALIA DISCORD REVAMP of 2022!!

Here’s a summary of the most important changes:

Phase 1 (<t:1667935620:D>)

• Several channels will be renamed

The structure will be like #👋│introductions but more consistently across the channels

• Several channel-specific pins will be updated/removed
• Several read-only channels will have updated messages
• The ability to create invite links will be removed.

Moving forward, know that only https://discord.com/invite/playpalia will be the ONE proper link to this server!

• The #game-suggestions channel will be removed in light of where we are in Palia’s development.

Please know that this channel will 2000% be making a return once the game launches—we feel it'll be more appropriate then. 😊

Phase 2 (<t:1668108420:D>)

• Improved new user flow (a new landing/lobby area and channel visibility changes).

This will include requiring members to react and agree to the Community Guidelines.
⚠️ You will need to react to the new ✅ #🔖│rules channel to view most of the server. By this date if you are unable to see any channels, this will likely be the reason why! ⚠️

• New Color Roles!

Please note your existing color roles (Butterfly, Tall Tree, etc.) will be removed and you will need to opt in again to the new ones. We promise the new ones will be just as pretty. ✨

• New Ping Roles!

Opt-in to receive pings for: Official Art (formally Art Connoisseur) , Ask the Team, and Community Events.

The Stress Test 2 is Happening Tomorrow!

This is an advance PSA to inform you that public channels will be paused for Stress Test 2! As we did for the first Stress Test, this is so the admin and mod team can focus our efforts on providing a smooth as possible experience for our testers.

An Update to the Fan Art Forums

Hi everyone!
After listening to feedback from our community, we are updating our stance on [AI Generated Art] in #1135700370077782127.

We will no longer be accepting AI Art submissions in the forum.

We are making it clear that our stance moving forward is to support and acknowledge the artists who have put in the time and effort to hone their craft, and also are willingly sharing it out to our community in good faith.

• The AI Generated tag has been removed, any retroactive submissions will not be deleted, but they are locked.
• Moving forward, any attempts to submit AI generated art, or worse, pass it off as otherwise,** will be removed**.
• We encourage members to please reach out to <@&1118401085535686680> for these incidents and our mods will immediately investigate as soon as possible.

We understand this is a sensitive topic from both sides, and while this is not an answer that will appease everyone, understand this is was something we took time to deliberate on and weigh from many perspectives before reaching a decision that best reflected the community we have here.

This post is long overdue, and thank you all for your patience as we managed the Little Fires Everywhere

Last Week

• Read all comments in each post and organize into a spreadsheet; we call this "raw data". 🧑‍🔬

Week of August 14th

• Compile all of the raw data into organized internal summaries on our Kanban board. This includes your quotes, upvotes, and number of like-suggestions.
• Share Kanban board across teams for check-ins on the status and realistic expectations of the most requested features.
• Chip away at building a player-facing destination where you can easily see all feedback in one place; something much easier than clicking into individual forums.

Week of August 21st OR August 28th (See: Little Fires)

• Get the final review and "go-ahead" from across the teams; collaboration makes for better long-term support!

Week of August 28th:

• REVEAL!

Meanwhile: We have reduced slow mode from 6 hours to 2 hours, and will be taking a look at permissions next week.

There will continue to be remodels and adjustments based on all the new folks joining and giving feedback. I will provide additional updates as development continues. 📰

• The Feedback role will be removed, and anyone will be able to participate in the following channels: #1135683423399329822, #1135683325227446393, and #💭│discord-server-thoughts. Please make sure to read posting guidelines and related pins.
  Note: If you do not see some of these channels, make sure to check id:browse to see if it’s checked as visible on your channel list. (They sometimes get hidden by Discord, especially if you joined the server before they were made.)

• We are temporarily pausing the off-topic channels under Community Corner. This is to keep things lean for our mods during these times. Note, they are still visible, but you can no longer add new comments. This may change in the future.

• #💬│off-topic-chat will still remain available (but will be renamed to #off-topic-chat).

• We plan to update the server with several more changes soon. Expect more relevant channels, more organization, and various improvements to better accommodate our rapidly growing membership. More details will be shared in a future announcement in this channel.

Aug ‘23 Server Updates (Part 1)

Hi folks! As mentioned, we plan on doing some updates to the server.
The updates will be split across multiple parts, and this will be the first in a series of changes we have planned!

To better organize all our members and support the moderators, Part 1 will focus on updating some of our channel names. This will help everyone understand the best place to go for their questions and needs.

While we are making these changes for the long-term improvement of our server, we recognize that there are folks who have come to call certain channels "home," and that there will be some adjustments happening as a result of these changes. We hope that you'll find a better experience across all our channels and as we roll these changes out.

💬 Feedback Gathering Update

Hi everybody! Dropping a quick-check in to keep you updated on how we're moving and shaking. It's been incredible to read all of the comments in the #game-feedback forum, and it gets me more and more excited about what we have to show you in sprints to come.

Overall, the takeaway here is that in running an official server, we have to evaluate the kind of community and space we have here and what we'd like for it to be. Hello, gentle Palians.

I come to you today with a message that has not been easy to write. After 2 ½ years of joyful adventures at Singularity 6, I have a new journey that awaits me. My last day as Head of Community for Palia will be** Wednesday, November 22nd.**

What we've all built here is an honest-to-glob community - it has proven to be greater than the sum of its parts. While I hope that I have made some positive impact, it is clear that what binds Palians together is not any one person, but the collection of heart, warmth, and downright silliness of the people who are a part of it.

Every single one of you, from the Creators to the Shepps to the lurkers, have made a difference in creating the thriving digital space we have today. That is what makes a community, and I am humbled to have been a witness to it.

To the Moderators & Community Team:
Thank you. As the frontline, you are the people who generously give the best parts of yourselves in the name of upholding and protecting the community. I have seen your resilience, care, and consideration as this community grew a few hundred thousand members. It is no small feat, and it is very much in large part thanks to you bringing your full selves to your work, every single day, that we have cultivated the community we have here today.

Hi everyone! Given an incident that occurred in recent days, we have an update we'd like to share out to the community.

• First things first: S6 was closed last week for American Thanksgiving. In the future we can definitely make it more clear when the office is closed and when the CM team will not be available.
• Second: We’re seeing areas where our Community Guidelines may require additional clarification or a complete overhaul. That’s an ongoing, long-term project that we’re committed to taking on starting in 2024. However, there are two instances we can make today and we’re going to dive in right now:

One: Respect, Kindness, and Disagreements.

• If you feel that you have tried to respectfully work out a disagreement and the other person is simply not having it, escalate to modmail. Part of the job of the mod team is to hand out warnings, mutes, and other sanctions because this is their official role and they are trained to handle these responsibilities.
• We do not condone incidents of dog-piling and/or moral policing. This is not respectful, nor kind, to fellow community members. If you feel someone is breaking a guideline or rule, please utilize modmail to let us know.
• Finally, it is perfectly fine to completely disengage or block someone if you ever feel put in an uncomfortable spot. Do not feel compelled to stay in the conversation. "I am going to step away" is a perfectly acceptable reply.

Two: Community Tools and our stance on Data-mining.

• We acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and passion that has been poured into many popular sites and tools used by members in the community.
• The subject of contention lies within the use of “Data-mining” in order to obtain information.
• At this time, we cannot support or recognize websites or tools that utilize data-mining as “official,” and we want to remind players to use discretion when utilizing this information as it may not be accurate.
• However. We also recognize that many community tools are born of a passion for the game and community. We recognize that many of these tools are developed truly in good faith. And, frankly, many of them are helpful and improve the gameplay experience overall.
• We will not sanction against any players or communities that continue to work in good faith and uplift the Palia experience as a whole.

I ask that we all move forward from this situation with an open mind and heart, and that we remember our player code of conduct: We promise to be kind, helpful, and respectful neighbors. We are all here because we love Palia and Palia’s community, and that means we have a whole lot in common. Thank you so much for your time.

Hello, dear Palians,

This announcement has been incredibly emotional for me to write, so I will simply cut to the chase: After a little over a year at Singularity 6, my last day as one of your Community Leads will be Friday, December 22nd. This was an incredibly difficult decision - I have so much pride, joy, and love for the Palian community, and I will miss you all so much.

I admit I have tried more than once to write this note and every time I get misty eyed - How can I sum up everything about this community in one Discord message? How am I supposed to have enough space to reminisce about our alpha tests, the stories and jokes - I see you, #🎭│palia-memes - and the amazing home you’ve built for every single new player that walks through our metaphorical doors? I could write a whole textbook on this community and how exceptional it is. While I hope I’ve been a small part of laying that foundation, this place can be called a home because of all of you.

I consider myself so fortunate to have been some small part of growing this incredible community. When new Palians join us, we don’t say “welcome” - we say “Welcome home,” and that is because of all of you. You - the Mods, the Creators and the Shepps, our meme makers and wiki editors, our amazing artists, lore librarians, social brightwing butterflies, and yes, our quiet and steadfast lurkers - this community is a home because of you.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to fill the application out, but must share that we will not be accepting any new shepps for the time being. I hope it is understandable that given the situation now, the CM team (AKA me and Mel), want to keep the boat steady before trying to bring in more passengers, so to speak. Of course, there may be a future where we are ready to open them again. Know that the work of so many passionate and helpful Palians in the community is definitely noticed, so it's only a matter of time! Thank you for understanding.

Hello, Paliacord.

To keep it short and sweet, we’ve decided to change out our moderation team. This was not a decision made lightly, and is the culmination of several weeks of investigations, audits, and feedback collection to determine the best direction on how we wanted to move forward in regards to the community we have here on this Discord server.

I want to thank each and everyone of the moderators that make up the Pond Patrol for their work over the last 2 ½ years since the start of this little Discord server, which is not-so-little now as we’re at an incredible 300,000 members, and counting!

Following Palia’s release on Steam, we evaluated the support needed to deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability. We made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce, which impacted around 35 percent of our talented and hardworking team members. We value their contributions and are committed to supporting them throughout this process, including severance, work-placement and career guidance assistance, and retainment of all company-provided development equipment.

This decision was not made lightly, and comes after careful consideration of our development and business needs to support Palia and its community. We remain committed to delivering passion in imagination, and maintaining the dedication and creativity that our community expects and deserves. We appreciate your understanding and support of our studio and affected team members.

Hey everyone,

For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Javs0n. I’ve worked closely with members of the Palia Creator Program, and you might have seen me post some (likely erroneous) messages as “Chief Chapaa Officer.”

Unfortunately, the rumors of a layoff at the studio are true. We have had to restructure and reduce the size of our team as we stay focused on supporting Palia and serving this community long-term. In an effort to navigate this tough economic period, we had to let 36 of our colleagues go yesterday. Asherelle, who has been a truly invaluable member of our team and this community, was unfortunately affected. We thank her and our departing team for all their work; and we are committed to providing the best assistance and transition we can. We hope the industry will provide homes for these talented colleagues.

While we cannot comment more at this time, we want to stress that we plan to continue to fully support Palia and this community moving forward. Thank you.

I’m coming to you with some changes being made to the Discord in terms of the moderation team!

First and foremost we want to thank every applicant that applied to be a Moderator. We did not expect the volume of applications we received (around 150!). As a moderation team, we took the time to read all of your thoughtful responses. It was very hard to narrow it down to our prospective new mods.

📢 Announcement: Changes to LFG-Communities Channel Usage and Rule 5 📢

Hello everyone,
We’re making some important changes to the #1135682474324807681 channel to bring it back to its intended purpose and ensure it remains focused on the game.

LFG-Communities Only

The #1135682474324807681 channel is strictly for finding in-game Communities. Advertisements for Discord communities or other external groups, even if they include the game, are not allowed.

Posting Frequency:

Each LFG community is allowed one post every 6 hours. Multiple posts within this timeframe, even if made by different users from the same community, are not permitted.

Why are you restricting advertisements to in-game communities only?
We have noticed that advertisements for external Discord communities have been taking over the channel. This channel is intended to help players find in-game communities specific to the game, and we are returning to that focus to maintain the channel's intended purpose.
**
Why are you limiting posts to one every 6 hours per community?**
The channel has been getting clogged with multiple posts from the same few communities, which can make it difficult for new or smaller communities to be seen. By limiting posts to one every 6 hours per community, we aim to give all communities a fair chance to be noticed and to keep the channel more organized.

What happens if I continue to post more frequently than allowed?
If you continue to post more frequently than allowed, your posts may be removed and you could face additional moderation actions. We ask that all community members respect these new guidelines to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Important Channel Updates

Hello everyone! We have made some significant updates to our channels to improve your experience and make it easier to connect with fellow players. Here are the details:

1. Change to Communities Channel
The lfg-communities channel is now renamed to Communities. --> #1267631845013721158

• New Rule: Only one post per community is allowed.
• Reason: Our attempts at improving the lfg-communities channel didn’t quite hit the mark, and it still had the issue of some communities overshadowing others by posting more frequently. This one-post rule should make it easier for interested players to browse through them.
• Clarification: Deleting and reposting your community post to bump it is not allowed.
• Note: By utilizing tags, users can sort through posts, bringing Communities they're interested in more discoverability. Outside of the new one-post rule, current rules and guidelines still apply.
• Fresh Start: We will be archiving the current lfg-communities in two days (8/2) so everyone may grab their posts and head on over to #1267631845013721158 !

2. Renaming of Existing Channels
To reflect the addition of the LFG chat channel and avoid confusion, we have renamed the existing channels:

• #1267631845013721158 (formerly lfg-communities): For recruiting and promoting in-game communities. Remember, only one post per community is allowed. Current rules and guidelines still apply.
• #1143270926394335282 (formerly lfg-party): For organizing in-game parties (essentially unchanged).

3. Addition of LFG Chat Channel
We are excited to introduce the #💬│lfg-chat channel!

• Purpose: This channel is for players looking to group up for smaller activities and quick interactions.
• Why: This new channel is for users who want to group up with other players but don't want to commit to a larger group or party, such as the ones over at the #1143270926394335282 forum channel.

4. New Home Tours Channel
With the recent addition of the home tours, we wanted to provide a more formal way to show off your builds and fantastic plots.
#🏡│decor will remain as a channel to discuss decorating, themes and ideas while #1267963034110922904 will be a place to advertise and show off your homes.

5. New Charity Fair Channel

• We are also adding a new #🤝│trading-archived chat channel for trading and sharing resources among players. This will help players support each other by offering or requesting resources.

Hello, everyone!

We want to address a recent surge in scam activity that has impacted accounts across the community. These scams often disguise themselves as giveaways, trading opportunities, or even “helpful” links. To protect everyone, we’ve implemented several measures to prevent scams from spreading in the server.

What’s changed?

• A filter to block posts containing certain terms, like “giveaway” has been set in place.
• Giveaways were already not allowed in the #🤝│trading-archived for safety reasons.
• Expanding this rule to the rest of the server helps ensure consistency.
• Previous posts mentioning giveaways have been removed to align with this change and eliminate any potential risks.
  We understand this may feel sudden, but it was necessary to act quickly to prevent further scams and to avoid alerting bad actors already targeting others. Delaying action would have put more members at risk, and that’s a chance we weren’t willing to take.

** Common Scam Tactics to Watch For:**

• Fake giveaways or contests that ask for personal information or login details.
• Suspicious links claiming to offer free items or rewards.
• Accounts impersonating staff.

💡 How to stay safe:

Legitimate giveaways or events will only be hosted by official accounts or approved staff.

From beautifully decorated homes to obstacle courses to stunning recreations of our favorite movies, we’ve seen some incredible creativity from all of you that we could never have dreamed -- so, first of all, thank you!

Hi Palians! We have had an uptick of user accounts getting taken over, so we wanted to share a thorough reminder about how to stay safe while being on Discord.

🔍 What does a scam look like?

Scams can range from obviously suspicious-looking links to very non-obvious discussions with random users. Being able to know what they look like is an important part of recognizing and reporting these kinds of users and bots. This is a list of some common ones we get:

• "Free" Gift Cards from Steam
• Direct Messages (DMs) from users you have not interacted with before, asking if you want digital art
• DMs from a user "accidentally" reporting you to Discord
• DMs from a user "accidentally" reporting you to Steam
• People posting random job listings
• People posting about free/easy crypto earnings
• People asking you to try out the game they made
  • (who you never met and/or share a weird looking link)
• People who want to give you money out of nowhere or for simple tasks

🔍 How do I make sure this is a scam?

There are a lot of things to think about when trying to decide if someone is trying to scam you. Here are some common questions to ask yourself when confronting a user:

1. Have you interacted with them before?

• This is usually the best question to start with! Some people may want to reach out to you for the first time, but usually people don't DM others out of the blue.

2. What servers do you share, and are they active?

• Often bots and scammers are newly-made or newly-joined accounts.
• If you can check on their profile, what servers you share, and if they are active in that server, sometimes that is a good indicator whether they are a bot or not.

3. What do they want from you?

• If there are any of the scams mentioned above, there is a good chance they are a scammer!
• Sometimes these conversations start out normally, but then they will ask specifically if you want "digital art" or tell you that "they accidentally reported you".
• Other red flags would be anyone asking for your personal information or payment accounts. Please never give out that information willingly to anyone!
• Another common scam is that sometimes hackers take over a friend's account and will DM everyone on their friends list. For example, if your friend is not usually in the game-making scene, has not discussed their game with you, and shares a random link for their "game" - more than likely a scam!

🔍 How do I protect myself from scams?

There are a ton of ways you can protect yourself! If you've been on Discord for a long time, you may be well-aware of these already, but refreshers are always good!

• Make sure you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on
  • This helps you add extra protection for when you log into your Discord account
  • If a hacker has taken over your account, they shouldn't be able to sign in if your 2FA code is on your phone or other device!
• Do not click on suspicious links
  • If it isn't a link you've seen before, you can try to search the domain and see if it is legit or not
  • We have the issue taken care of for the server, but if you hover over a link in DMs, sometimes scammers will have a different link embedded than what is showing.
• Ignore and/or Block random DMs from users
  • To best prevent yourself from clicking random links, you can decide to ignore and block others from contacting you further.
• Report them to Discord
  • You should be able to select a specific message, and Discord gives you the option to click "Report Message" for you to fill out some information.
• Adjust settings to limit who is allowed DM you
  • You can go to User Settings > Content & Social > manage settings for DMs and Friend Requests

If you suspect a Discord scam is taking place in the server or if you receive similar DMs like these from users, please reach out to the mod team via ModMail!

We want to clarify our stance on soliciting trades of in-game items for Mystery Gifts. We consider this practice to be similar to real-money trading (RMT) and therefore against our Terms of Service. That said, it’s important for everyone to know the following:

1. Upcoming In-Game Announcement: We’ll be making an in-game announcement about this topic before our next patch goes live, to make sure folks are aware of the clarification.
2. Evidence-Based Action: We won’t take action without substantial proof. We understand that genuine gifting between friends is part of community life, and we want to absolutely ensure we avoid penalizing legitimate gift-giving.
3. External Communities: While we can enforce our TOS in our official spaces, we can’t police external groups or platforms.
4. Reporting: If you suspect someone of violating our TOS, please report it through our support site rather than discussing or reporting on Discord. We really appreciate your reports, but we may not be able to share the outcome or confirm any bans.
   5.Mystery Gifts Among Friends: Trading Mystery Gifts one-to-one with others is not specifically against our TOS. However, please only do this with people you know and trust as there may be a high risk of being scammed otherwise.

As a quick heads up, we discovered that there was a temporary outage with the referral program refresh for Elderwood for a short period of time. The good news is that it has since been resolved!

Referrals made during the outage should now be properly honored. They might just take a little bit longer to show up on the site or for the new rewards to show up in your in-game inbox.

Howdy all!

I know there has been some questions surrounding the new referral rewards, so I have put together a quick FAQ.

Referral FAQ:

If I have already referred 5 people before today's announcement, do I need to refer 5 more people in order to receive the new rewards?
Yes, you will need to refer 5 additional people for the new rewards. You will also receive all of the previous rewards (except for the beanie, sweater, and glider, as those cannot be duplicated). So, you will receive an extra Plushie at level 2 and an extra Fountain at level 4.

When I complete the new requirements, will I receive the items immediately or when the Elderwood expansion happens?
For someone who has already gotten all 5 referral levels, you will receive the additional Plushie and the Fountain immediately.

If you are new to referring, you will receive all 5 levels if you are playing on an existing platform. (PS5/Xbox aren't out until May 13th.) These should all work without issues, but please keep in mind you have to log in to an existing platform in order to get it immediately. If you don't login to an existing platform, these rewards will be delivered when you log in to either the PS5 or Xbox.

Funguy Plushies will be delivered on May 13 when the update comes out.

We, the mod team, will send users a DM on Discord to those we wish to follow up with! After we have made our decisions, we will make a follow-up notice that we have contacted all the chosen participants. ( Make sure your Discord username is correct on the form and your DMs are open! )
We appreciate your understanding for this method as there will be many applicants, and reaching out to every member may prove difficult as we will be onboarding members in waves and busy prepping for the Elderwood Update.

Is the ModCat position paid or unpaid?

The position is a volunteer service! As a volunteer service, the majority of us dedicate ourselves whenever we are available, and we are pretty understanding when it comes to everyone having other worldly obligations. Especially for a role like moderation, we are very serious when it comes to taking time for personal and mental health reasons - just always make sure to communicate with the team!

What if I live in a certain time zone and have varied availability hours?

A time zone mostly just gives the team a good idea about what region you're in since we also accept global applicants, but we totally understand this may not fully reflect your available times. Feel free to mention that in the time zone prompt, the last section of the form, or whenever we reach out to you!

How long will the trial period last?

We will set up a grace period for Mini Maji to get up to speed with understanding the rules and observe how we handle certain situations. From then on, it's mostly about how eager and active you are, and we will have periods of re-evaluation if you are ready for the ModCat position. Further details on this matter are best disclosed to those we reach out to!

What you can do:

• Update your Clan Tag if necessary, to comply with our community guidelines.

||"My dad died 6 months before Palia came to the Switch. I still miss him everyday but I really liked the fact that we could pick from an array of characters as our Shepp.
As soon as I encountered Ashura in the game, it was like a virtual dad. He has so many qualities that remind me of my dad. There was absolutely no other choice for me to select as a Shepp to be honest.
The day Ashura gave me the whittled sernuk I cried. My dad was amazing with woodwork, he even built the staircase in my brothers 200 year old home that required gutting when they bought it.
When dad came home on palliative care they misjudged his oxygen dose so he was.... a little out of it. He woke up one morning and saw the dog in the living room (she is a fawn saluki) and started saying "there's a deer in the living room!"
That whittled sernuk may only be virtual but it just felt like something from my dad. Dad knew how much my gaming meant to me, heaven knows he put up with watching me playing Zelda and Fable for countless hours and when I was little and one of us was ill he would spend ages playing kickle cubicle with me on the NES.
It's like he knew what would help me with my grief journey and guided me to it.

||I grew up in a gaming family. So at age 55, I have been gaming for many years.
My mother, even at age 83, plays games on her Nintendo Switch. I have been taking care of my elderly mother for several years. Our relationship has been built mostly around chores or things she needed done IRL. I struggled to find a place where she and I could have fun and enjoy each others company.
When Palia was released to Switch, I downloaded it for us to play. We play together all week, especially our "Friday...girls game night". Palia is now where we go to spend time with each other, outside our chore relationship.

||About a year ago, a friend introduced me to Palia. At first, I wasn’t too interested, but the more she talked about it and the more I watched her play, the more curious I became. Eventually, I decided to give it a try. It wasn’t easy at first especially fishing (I was terrible at it, haha) but I stuck with it. What started as playing now and then quickly became something I looked forward to every day.
At the time, my mental health was in a really bad place. I felt like I was at my lowest, and everything felt heavy and hard. But something about Palia the game, the world, the community it brought me comfort in a way I didn’t expect. The people I met were kind and welcoming. They had no idea what I was going through, but their kindness, even in small ways, made a big difference.
I’ll never forget the moment my character was accepted into the village. The cinematic was beautiful, but when it said “Welcome home,” I actually teared up. I know it’s a moment everyone gets, but it felt deeply personal to me. Like I had found a place where I belonged.
My home life isn’t bad, but I’m often lonely. Yet, when I play Palia, that feeling fades. In this world, I feel connected, supported, and safe. Palia gave me a space to breathe when I needed it most a place that truly feels like home, and a community that feels like family.

||When I started Palia, it was still in very early beta and I had been going through depression.
I was rather lonely, and when joining Palia, I met a large friend group who were all out hunting in Bahari. They ended up all adding me because I was a good shot and had tons of ammo.
Eventually, we added each other on Discord and started all voice chatting. Through that group, I met my now fiancé! My fiancé was a newer player that joined the game after early beta. He and I really hit it off and just so happened to live in the same city IRL.
Us chatting turned to us hanging out IRL, and then eventually we started dating. After a few months, we sort of knew, and we just moved in together.
We would play Palia together whenever he had time off to sit down and play with me. We would join voice calls with our friend group as well while hunting, and spend hours upon hours just laughing and joking around while building, foraging, and cooking!
Eventually, on his home plot, he built something special, and on my birthday, he invited all our friends from our friend group into a voice and video call. We all went to his plot, and on his plot, he gave me editing permissions, and he streamed to the group his view of what was happening.
When I entered View Mode in Edit Mode, he wrote out in flowers "Will you marry me," and he made a heart out of pavers and little garden lights. When I read out loud what he made on camera, he dropped down to one knee and proposed to me in front of our friends, and I about burst into tears!!!!
I obviously said yes, and our wedding is actually in a little over a week, just in time for our honeymoon to land during the release of "Elderwood," which couldn't be any more perfect!!
My fiancé and I plan to bring our Switches on our honeymoon abroad, and we plan to be the first of many to explore what lies beyond Bahari Bay, where our romance first began!||

||I started playing Palia right before the first Maji New Year Market and immediately started making friends in the game. I followed a couple of cozy game/variety streamers on Twitch who were playing Palia and I started running around with them.
During my time playing with them, I met Gig, another Palia player. We first interacted at the top of the ginormous Frogbert in Kilima after the Steam launch of the game - I fumbled my controller inputs on the Switch and accidentally shot him with an arrow instead of using the wave emote.
Over the next few days, we continued to run around together in Palia and often found a cozy spot to sit and talk in-game. After a bit more of getting to know each other, we started messaging outside of the game on Discord and eventually switched to phone conversations.
We have spent the last year doing almost everything together in Palia - fishing, hunting, completing the vault bundles, decorating, farming, playing hotpot, visiting the Maji Market, and completing the starred bug, fish, and plushy collections.
We have spent countless hours on the phone or Discord talking as we've played Palia, we became close very fast and we also fell in love. Gig is one of the best humans I've ever connected with and he wouldn't be in my life without Palia.
We've laughed, we've cried, we've worked through frustrations in the game together. (Like that one time we spent hours fishing for a Stormray for the vault and then Gig accidently used it in a sushi recipe before putting it in the vault - whoops!)
Some of our favorite traditions in the game are days of the week with outfit themes - because the hotdog costume brought us together, we have Weiner Wednesdays where we dress up as Party Sausages, Sundae Sunday where we dress up in the Ice Scream outfit, Chapaa Chewsday with our Chapaajamas on Tuesday, and Feral Friday where we wear the Wild Howl costume.
The last year presented real life challenges to Gig and me, challenges that really tested both of us. Palia gave us a place to have a break from those challenges, gave us something fun to focus on, and it brought us together. We've both made it through our real life challenges with support from each other and I am forever grateful to this game for the connection we've found through it.||

As you may have noticed, we have been making a lot of changes to the Discord server to benefit the community. One of the largest suggestions we have received is providing more clarity to our rules. Mini Maji Applications Are Opening!

As the server grows, we're looking to grow our Mini Maji team.

What Is a Mini Maji?
A Mini Maji is a community helper position that will directly help the moderation team. Their duties includes (but is not limited to):

• Forwarding issues to moderators to help expand the scope of the community
• Helping community users utilize the correct channels
• Being a community ambassador for new players, players asking questions, or just generally being helpful Palians.
• Providing helpful commands to users looking for information.

The role of Mini Maji in the past has been a moderator-adjacent position. Moving forward, this position will be more community facing and serve as a pool we pick future moderators from. Please note that not all Mini Maji will become moderators, but all Mini Maji will be given the opportunity to apply when the need arises in the future. This is a server-facing position and does not carry into the game. Being a Mini Maji is a volunteer position and the time you commit to it is at your own discretion. You must be of 18 years of age and okay with signing an NDA for this position.

Future Mini Maji will not be selected all at once. In an attempt to combat the never ending string of bots posting scam images in the channels, we are implementing a new system in which you must have the <@&1428452258588266637> role to post any images on any channels. To obtain this role, simply interact in the server and you will automatically be awarded it as it as a low threshold. By doing this, we hope to eliminate or otherwise reduce the amount of potential scam postings. While our bots do catch a majority of them, it is not catching all of them and we wish to keep our community safe.

Over the next few minutes I will be rolling the changes out. You might temporarily lose image permissions, but they will come back shortly. I will come back to update this post once all of the changes have been made. Thank you to all of the wonderful applications we have received during this process. There were so many of you that gave us amazing answers and truly are pillars in the community. We narrowed down our selection to our final 8 applicants out of over 150 of you. Those applicants will be starting their onboarding process here over the coming weeks while we set them up for success.

Some time ago we mentioned expanding our Mini Maji program and brought out some new wonderful candidates. Today, I wanted to introduce you to those new MIni Maji and give an overview of 'What is a Mini Maji?* and What is their role on the server?

Mini Maji -- What Are They and What Do They Do?
Mini Maji are trusted members of the server who help keep an eye on chat, assist players, and notify the moderation team when something needs attention. At this time, they are not moderators and are not expected to act as moderators. Their primary focus is to be a helpful, friendly presence in the community and keep an eye out on potential issues. While Mini Maji are not moderators, they have the ability to remind the community of the rules and give gentle reminders of what they are. Any action taken against a community member will directly come from a Moderator. In chat and discussion, the decision of a MIni Maji should still be respected and regarded as an extension of the moderators.

Who Are the MIni Maji?
As we bring our last few Mini Maji into the ranks to complete their training period, this is our most recent group of Mini Maji to go through our program:

Hey <@&1141805837292146793> ! We want to take a moment to reinforce the Community Guidelines and what kind of community we’re aiming to maintain here,

We understand that players will have complaints, frustrations, and critiques about Palia. Sharing feedback, even when it is critical, is welcome and important as long as it is done respectfully and with the intent of improving the experience. Open discussion is a big part of what makes this community valuable.

That said, we have seen an increase in patterns of discussion that move beyond constructive feedback into doomposting and begin to derail conversations. When feedback becomes incredibly repetitive, overly negative, or focused more on venting than discussion, it can feel discouraging, uncomfortable, and exclusionary to others who are reading and may want to participate. We have received multiple reports from people that are feeling this way, and this is not something we want to see continue.
This kind of environment can make it harder for new players or more casual community members to feel welcome joining the conversation. Actively seeking out positive conversations in order to argue against them, dismiss them, or shut them down can make others feel discouraged, uncomfortable, and excluded from participating. For example, if someone shares that they enjoy a feature or item, it is not productive to jump in simply to tell them their opinion is wrong or to tear down their enjoyment.

Our goal is for this space to feel cozy, approachable, and open to a wide range of voices that make up the Palia community. We want people to feel comfortable sharing what they love, what they wish could be better, and their hopes for the future of Palia, without feeling talked over or pushed out by the tone of the discussion. If a topic, feature, or conversation is not your cup of tea, sometimes the best choice is to scroll past and let others enjoy the conversation.

This is not about enforcing toxic positivity or shutting down criticism. It is about setting clearer boundaries around behavior that consistently detracts from healthy, productive conversation. Moving forward, our moderation team will be more proactive about moderating discussions that cross that line, in line with our community guidelines.

Mini Maji Applications Are Opening!

As the server grows, we're looking to grow our Mini Maji team... again!

What Is a Mini Maji?
A Mini Maji is a community helper position that will directly help the moderation team. Their duties includes (but is not limited to):

• Forwarding issues to moderators to help expand the scope of the community
• Helping community users utilize the correct channels
• Being a community ambassador for new players, players asking questions, or just generally being helpful Palians.
• Providing helpful commands to users looking for information.

This position is community facing and serves as a pool we pick future moderators from. Please note that not all Mini Maji will become moderators, but all Mini Maji will be given the opportunity to apply when the need arises in the future. This position does not carry into the game. Being a Mini Maji is a volunteer position and the time you commit to it is at your own discretion. You must be of 18 years of age and okay with signing an NDA for this position.

Update Concerning Latest Patch

When it comes to discussing some of the more sensitive themes present in the game, it can be challenging to find the right balance. For some, a heads up that heavier topics are being discussed is helpful. For others, prolonged discussions around those topics may make the space feel uncomfortable or less welcoming. We want to respect both perspectives here.

There is value in discussing lore, and conversations around feedback. At the same time, we also need to ensure that discussions stay within certain boundaries.

Allowing certain terms can open the door to bad faith participation or conversations that move away from constructive discussion. However, we also recognize that some terms around sensitive topics may be necessary in order to allow discussion on the lore.

So how do we balance that?

At this time, sensitive topics may be discussed when they are directly related to Elderwoods lore and only when in the #💬│elderwood specific channel. However, sharing personal stories or anecdotes around sensitive subjects is not permitted.

We want to leave room for people with different viewpoints to share them as long as they are done respectfully, constructively, and without targeting others.

We will not be adjusting the bot to allow restricted terms. However, there are many neutral terms that can be used such as: death, war, harm, or self-harm, as long as they are clearly being used in the context of the game. These terms should not be used to start conversations about personal experiences, politics, or unrelated discussions.

We also ask everyone to be mindful when discussing sensitive topics. Trigger warnings or spoiler marked posts are not required, but some find them helpful. Similar to tone indicators, their optional use is completely fine. Ultimately, discussions come down to a simple guideline: please consider the comfort of the community and how our rules apply.

A decision was made to move forward with this in regards to an increase in visible flashing graphics which may cause harm to other community members. Hello everyone!

We want to address a recent surge in scam activity that has impacted accounts across the community and Discord servers as a whole. Please be vigilant and cautious when interacting with others online, and carefully review any friend requests or private messages you receive from people you do not know on Discord and any platforms.

Scammers are always on the lookout for opportunities, so protect your personal information, avoid clicking on suspicious links and review any link’s source URL when you are not familiar with it, avoid using “verification channels” in a Discord server that require you enter some type of account information, and never share your Discord account details with anyone.

Some of the recent attacks we’ve seen include:

• Unsolicited requests to test a game or claiming to be a developer needing help with something.
• Being invited to other game servers (like Minecraft or Roblox) in which the sender requires you to complete an account verification.
• Receiving a random invite to a discord server that doesn’t coincide with your usual interests.
• Receiving a random QR code to scan; never scan this, as it may be an attempt to steal your account login details.
• A friend you know suddenly needs help in some sort of contest, tournament, or vote for a skin they designed.
• A random person mistook you for someone they know and asks you to game with them anyway, and they eventually send you a suspicious link.
• Unsolicited messages from artists who want to provide you with cheap art, stickers, emotes, etc.
• A person panics and tells you they reported you to Discord by accident, and sends you a "Support" link to get your account "fixed."

There are some steps you can take to protect yourself:

• Enable 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account.
• Limit DMs: In User Settings in the Content and Social section, set your direct message settings to only allow messages from friends to prevent unwanted messages.
• Limit Friend Requests: In User Settings in the Content and Social section, set your friend request settings to only allow friends of friends to prevent unwanted requests.

What we've done here in the Palia Server:

• Regular monitoring of accounts joining the server
• Banning accounts that receive flags for suspicious activity from Discord's built-in monitoring tools; this week alone, 1,000 suspicious accounts were banned.
• Taking action against accounts that participate in bad faith by sending server members scam materials by DM
• Auto-monitoring moderation tools in place to prevent sharing of suspicious links, images, or invites to suspicious discord servers.

To report suspicious activity you may received from another server member:

• Take screenshots of the conversation – don’t reply to the scammer!
• Use Discord’s reporting features to report them to Discord Safety and Support
• Block the scammer
• Use @wet sapphire to send in the screenshots of the conversation to the Moderation Team. The Moderation Team will review and take action as necessary.

This is a very brief announcement to let you know you may notice the moderation team being a little more strict about sticking to the Palia and off-topic channels (otherwise known as #💬│palia-discussions and #💬│off-topic-chat). We are aiming to develop good habits in time for the next influx of players we expect for Alpha in the first half of 2022

In the next few months, you can also expect to see some changes to our Discord channels, including a lot of implementations of your #💭│discord-server-thoughts. Be sure to get those in soon, so they can be included for consideration during the remodel.
