Hi, I'm a new player who is mostly one-handed. I'm grateful to have found a game I can play despite my disability. I can pin down a key long enough to activate my tool wheel, but otherwise I can't use the mouse and keyboard at the same time. This generally means I move slowly in closed-in spaces since I can't move and change my camera angle at the same time.
This means there are some things in the game that I can't do, like chasing a critter and shooting at the same time. That means the second-level Chapaa and the blue top-tier critters are off limits for me. It might be the same thing for the Muujin but I haven't tried hunting them yet. It also means I can't quickly swap tools to, say, bomb a special bug after mining a rock.
I was just wondering if anyone else deals with this and how do they do this stuff? I know I can call for help and do the party thing, but I would rather find ways to accomplish things by myself.
I was also wondering if there is anyone out there like me. I have cerebral palsy and it's rare to find a game I can play.
#♿│accessibility-discussions message you can try and sort of follow the general idea that i have messaged from another player a while back
for the most part, i will say the mmo mice will work wonders since you do have more buttons to rebind your keybinds to, you can then bind the less important ones to keyboard while binding the more important ones to the mmo mice buttons
as for the other stuff like hunting, you can party up with others, not only will it be easier since more players are shooting the same animal, thus killing it faster, you do get the chance of 2x loot and you dont need to even be firing your bow as long as you are within 35 m of your party members
Hmm, okay. I have a 20-button mouse somewhere. I wasn't sure if it would be compatible with this game since I'm not familiar with how Steam structures "alternative" game controllers (it's not a video game controller like on XBox or whatever).
I thought of partying up but I guess I don't want to accidentally annoy other players by not "participating" enough and pulling my weight properly. If I knew people directly I'd feel better about it. It's why I would prefer it if I could do things myself.
But I do appreciate the collaborative nature of the game, like I'm pretty sure you need to pair up to down flow trees (I'm not that far in yet).
It might be worth looking at a Razer Tartarus (or similar). It's a keypad + joystick meant to be operated with one hand.
Thankfully Razer isn't the only company who makes them anymore.
Is the concern other lures, or your own?
others too
they just get to bright and give me a head ach and i back off so it dose not get worse
and i have had others tell me the same that have the same issues i have with light sencativie
there’s a trick to hunting the magic azure chapaa that may make it doable for you solo if you have the magic arrows unlocked (hunting level 8 i think?) all the other animals that take multiple hits can be hit once by you and if they’re killed by someone else (doesn’t have to be a party member) their loot will show up, but i understand that’s not what you’re asking.
fwiw, if you’re comfortable with and want to do parties, hunting, cooking, and bug lures are the activities i recommend most doing with other people, regardless of disability status. they’re definitely geared towards group play.
I think I might have accidentally found that trick yesterday lol. I happened to be holding my bow with a Dispel arrow equipped when a blue Sernuk ran by. I nailed him in one shot and just stood there in shock for a minute because I did not think that would happen.
I think I'll get more comfortable with the idea of parties as I play more of the game. It's some of my own internalized ableism that makes me think I have to do everything myself. I really appreciate that cooperation seems to be a core value in the game.
with the azure chapaa specifically, you can ||sneak up behind it with a dispel arrow drawn and hit it with the dispel. this will momentarily stun it so it stands still instead of separating into multiple chapaas, and you may be able to nock another dispel while it's stunned. it takes 3 dispels to kill.||
i totally get where you're coming from RE: wanting to do things yourself and internalized ableism. i'm hopeful you can find folks you like to party up with just because it's fun, but it's ok if you end up only wanting to solo. there's some channels in here that can help you find folks to play with (https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1267651728229007390, https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1445866314949202012, and https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1481366373782257837) if you're ever looking
I really wish they could just put a luminosity/brightness filter/slider in the game so it could tone down the fireworks and lures for light sensitivity. It's either that or play with shades on.
(which would make the rest of the game harder to see unless you have the right specific color filter on the glass)
@frigid wagon I'm more than happy to go hunt with you for achievements if a whole group is too much to start with.
Hi! Have you tried the Xbox adaptive controller before? It has a lot of positive feedback from folks with limited mobility. There's also a suite of accessories that can connect to it to customize it to suit your personal needs.
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller
Theres also other options too, like this guy: https://byowave.com/products/proteus-controller
They do unfortunately all require a bit of an upfront investment but priced low enough that they can be saved up for.
I'm an out of work game developer that worked on accessiblity a good bit, and I just really care about accessible gaming. Happy to offer whatever knowledge I might have to help!
Mines still saying that how do I fix it?
Friendly reminder this is for accessibility issues things such as color blindness, mobility issues, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, seizures, etc. For general game or tech help please go to #🤝│game-help or #💻│tech-help .
See my above comment. This is better suited to be put in game help.
Also S6 just made an announcement that they are aware of this issue and are working to fix it. #📢│palia-status
🙏🏻godbless
Hi, thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't own an X-Box. I have Switch though. I generally don't invest in gaming platforms because I can't use the default controllers. Most of my games are either Pokemon or PC stuff I can remap keys for. I'm also poor as dirt, which is why I'm grateful Palia is free.
Thank you for reaching out. It means a lot that other people are aware of this issue 💜
The XBox adaptive controller should be compatible with Windows PCs, like any other Microsoft product. But it can certainly be cost prohibitive.
Oh, I didn't know that was a thing. I'm learning things today, thank you.
And yeah, unfortunately the cost of adaptative equipment is a major barrier for me. I try to make do with what I have or I just... don;t play certain things. I would 1000% be a gamer if I had to equipment to do so.
Just wanna say I also have cerebral palsy (although my abilities are different) and I totally get it - I have issues with fishing myself due to how a lot of fish require moving the wrist back and forth
Hey I think I've seen you in game! (assuming you are Froggies here and there )Hi, nice to know I'm not the only CPer out here. It's rare that I meet anyone with it. It's such a varied condition that none of us are the same but.... it's a shared thing anyway.
I figured out how to get the striped Chapaa even though I don't have a great success rate. The Muujin are out of my reach since I can't swap weaponry quickly. It's frustrating but I've gotten one or two with help. Luckily they don't seem to be vitally important to gameplay yet.
Yep! Any Xbox controller should plug in and pretty much be ready to use immediately.
If you chop down a tree that contains muujins, that counts as a hit on them. So if someone else hunts them down, you can share in the loot.
Hmm. That's interesting to know. So far I've gotten my hit in by taking first strike. It's confusing with the ones that split apart. I don;t know who to chase.
If you are talking about the Azure Chapaas that splits into three, someone mentioned a good strategy for hunting them. You actually walk up to it, then wait for it to split. Then you shoot any of them with a Dispel Arrow. That dispels its mirror images, leaving the original.
Oooh. I was thinking of the muujin. I think only the blue one does it? I think I might have seen the azure chapaa once but I was confused cuz he was small and grey.
I think the purple muujin split too? Sometimes more than one comes out of a tree
If multiple come out of a tree, then multiple climbed into it before :-)
The Bluebristle Muujin turns invisible with a faint shimmer. The visual effect of Slow Arrows will still be visible.
Oooooohhh. I didn't know they could do that.
I am learning so many things today 💜 💜 💜
I love the new camera and being able to share pictures in profiles, but the white flash when taking a picture really hurts my eyes and I worry about it possibly hurting people who get seizures and such
Is there a chance for a dyslexic friendly font? Or maybe a text to speech options for those of us who struggle with our reading?
is there a way to increase brightness/gamma? exploring the elderwood hurts my eyes
like a minecraft fullbright type thing
You can go in the Settings > Graphics menu and click on "Calibrate Screen".
settings, calibrate sceen, gamma
TYSM
!feedback It looks like there are a couple Windows applications that can use optical character recognition (OCR) to read text on screen. Otherwise I haven't heard of S6 adding dyslexic friendly fonts to the game. If you want, you can submit feedback to the below website.

You could try reaching out to your local independent living center some have adaptive gaming programs that help people with disabilities get adaptive equipment
Ah, thank you. I'm pretty sure I have something like that nearby.
my friend and i slowly approached . she shot it with dispel, i shot it with slow and she shot it with fine and it worked. they didn't split, and they were slow enough that we can get it
i know i'm almost a week late but thats how we did it
Good to know there are other strategies. Thanks for posting it.
heads up that the froggy flare has an extra ongoing flash
Controller could be worth a try,
Personally, controller is worse for me because my hands lock up but it might work for someone else
if the bobble head animation is causing you problems and you aren't going to take a day or so break from the game, you want no hat + a hair + outfit with little animation that doesn't interact with the head or shoulders while hiding the neck (still nauseating for me unfortunately, but better than the styles I've watched on others today)
Would also probably avoid activities like ranching and cooking (from what I've heard the utensils look weird too?). Seems hunting is also being a bit hindered by it so might make it more difficult.
Please let us turn off the visual elements added for events and seasons. First it was the snow. I could barley play it was so blinding. Now its the April fools bobble head. I stay off the internet as much as possible around April 1st cuz its so hard for me. I just wanted my comfort game
I can’t agree with you more. I have some psychological issues with April Fools so I tend to go mostly offline on this day. The bobble head effect is basically triggering me and it’s also making me motion sick
Yeah it's super hard for me to play like this it's sad :/
The bobble head effect makes me very uncomfortable to play. It would be best if we could turn off these effects.
I agree. The bobble head is causing me to be motion sick. I put in feedback because IDK if Devs actually read this or not. It's just enough foreign motion to trigger it. I tried to adjust my settings as much as possible but I cannot play. Now I'm starting to see TikToks from Palia creators making fun of us who don't like/can't tolerate the bobble head. I've been putting it out there that people need accessibility. I wish that they would have given us an opt out in settings or some item to remove it. I don't care that it's on other people, and I hope everyone who is enjoying it is having fun. But those of us who have visual issues, this kills the game. Which sucks becasue I'm in Zeki Club.
Came here because I'm also getting bad motion sickness from the bobble head and wasn't sure if there was a work around. It looks like there is a use timer but it seems to restart every time to you load into a new area. I think its super fun for April Fools but really wish there was a way to deactivate or at least stop bobble motion.
Nope
I have a disability
As someone with severe vertigo, there is a verticule setting palia has had forever in the settings to help with motion sickness!!! I use it before bobble head and it helps dramatically.
Hope that helps!
Totally agree. It's one of the best jokes ever in games I've playedand I loled all by myself when I finally understood it wasn't just my character that was bugged out.. 😅 That being said, I can't play now because of the motion sickness. I don't wanna be the partypooper either, but it should definitely be an option to remove it.. I'm just in my plot now, can't go anywhere cuz of the timer
unfortunately, for me, it doesn't help with the bobble head animation - since it's right at the player's head it sorta highlights the extra movement
Yeah it caused eyestrain and motion sickness for me too. I fed my animals, grabbed dailies, then logged off. I had to leave the game all winter too for similar reasons. Hate when games don't make something opt-in or at least give an opt-out. Most mmos I play just do an optional quest or festival for april first so this is really irritating. Taking away player agency, even for a joke, is never good.
I hadn't experienced any game before that allowed removing winter snow or even giving the option to.
But recently I started to play heartopia, and I was surprised to see a remove snow toggle in the game options.
That’s awesome! I haven’t seen that either
We should create communities for all us dizzy people LOL
is there a way to change the gamma on the game? I have a problem with darkness and brightness
yes - settings > graphics > calibrate screen
that was fantastic thanks so much, there is one thing I'd love to suggest as well, when it comes to the icons used for items in the game, I can't see the pictures (they are too small) perhaps in time a pop out for the pictures so we can see them enlarged (I'd hate to buy the wrong wall paper lol)
!feedback hey! Those are awesome suggestions, others have asked for this before too! If you'd like to make sure your feedback gets seen by and is sent to the studio directly, that link is below!

oh thanks so much
No one should be made to feel like a "party pooper" or "overly negative" because of their accessibility issues/problems resulting from a disability. It's really disappointing to see how this concern has been met by this community today. If you're one of the people who has had accessibility issues today and has been told that you're "complaining" and "overly negative," just know that I, if no one else, hear you and see you, and your concerns are valid. I'm frankly a little disgusted how hostile people are being towards disabled people in this server, in general but especially today. Not really surprised given the track record though.
This right here. But we have to advocate for ourselves so hard that it seems like we're complaining or being negative. Social media on this is gross. The most supportive creator that's addressed it was basically addressing it as if we should just take time off the game and we should be nice. Then added the addendum that people without issues should be nice. It comes off as performative.
Absolutely agree with what you said about us having to advocate so hard for ourselves that we just get tossed in the "hater bin" and dismissed. We are actually some of the most passionate people about this game. I adore playing Palia. Why else would I spend my time advocating for it to improve? If I didn't care about Palia or hated Palia then I'd just quit and leave the server.
That's <t:1775149200:f> in your time.
thank god because the game is unplayable right now😩
Yeah next time it would be nice to have the option to remove the effect on ourselves.
I think that's honestly the best solution for most things. A 'toggle effects' for our character, and a 'toggle effects for other characters'. If they ever implemented weather (or did something seasonal like the snow again) it could function the same.
Me too. I'm staying on my plot and not logging in until this is over. Its messing with my OCD and depth perception. The noticeable movement bugs my eyes. I hope this doesn't happen again.
Does anybody know how long the bobble heads are gonna be here for? Cause April 1st is over and I still have mine :/
Nevermind!! I just scrolled up and saw
A dev or member of the team posted in anthoer channel that it will end today. I dont' know how to do that time stamp thing but it's today a 12pm central time.
I didn't see the NM until after i wrote that lol
It's around <t:1775149200:f> your time. Timestamp would be <t:1775149200:f> :-)
Im wondering if it effected me more than i noticed honestly. I didnt think anything was wrong but about half way through a party i was doing last night i started to get a headache, which then devolved into the WORST migraine of my life that would not go away. If it was the cause, thats is an even bigger problem because (to my knowledge) i have no issues with stuff like that or anything. There was no perceptible difference that i could see
Hey, quick question... why are the devs of this game adding "jokes" that affect our POV and can cause motion sickness for some of us?? Like what a tone deaf and unfunny "joke".
From what I can tell is the joke is how S6 the game devs are getting big headed from how popular Palia has gotten. The joke is them! I personally found the joke to be very funny so to say its an unfunny "joke" is just like your opinion. Also it is a Joke even if you find it unfunny. You have every right to not find it funny but to say its not a joke is false.
I didn't say it wasn't a joke. I said it was a tone deaf and unfunny joke.
Thank goodness you read it thoroughly, right?
You put joke in Quotation marks implying its not a joke
Hey folks, we're allowed to feel our own ways about the bobblehead feature. Please remember not to dismiss other's experiences and feelings.
That is not what that implies and I am not going to argue with someone telling me what I intended to say.
I was just saying why I thought you didn't think it was a joke. I was trying to clarify why I believed what I believed.
No, you were telling me what I said.
Incorrectly, I might add.
I think You need to take a deep breath cause you are taking what I am saying as malicious.
I don't need to do anything. You need to stop trying to twist what I said into what you think I meant to say. I really don't know what your goal is.
Alright folks, let's drop the conversation at this point. Please and thank you!
A clarity edit: My apologies! Please continue discussing the issues rather than each other. The wording should have been more specific on my part
I really wish that my message hadn't been totally overshadowed by somebody trying to start an argument with me, which then led to someone asking us to drop it without any constructive discussion. That's really disappointing.
And it fully undermines the purpose of the accessibility channel, as well, bc this person's argument against me had absolutely no merit and nothing to do with my concern. OR accessibility lol.
The Devs are aware their joke has caused motion sickness you are not the first person to mention this.
I'm now even more confused then as to why you tried to argue with me about it...
I missunder stood your comment because Normally when people put something in quotes it means they don't believe something is that thing. I was Admitting I was wrong. I'm NOT trying to argue
I'm sorry to hear. Many have reported issues with the bobblehead effect and while I think the devs simply wanted to give people a laugh, it definitely was an oversight that would've been better if it was a toggle option. Your experience is valid and again, I'm sorry.
Thank you ❤️ I appreciate that
Eristic
Can someone explain how it caused motion sickness??
I would like to have a better understanding of this.
For some people constant motion causes them to feel like they are moving themselves so seeing the head bobble is enough to make them feel ill. I think its called Phantom Gs
If it didn't bobble, would they hate it as much?
I don't think so
But there are some people who just don't like it cause it makes it hard to see what you are doing.
Ah so I guess S6 should have just left the bobbling part out if they wanted to give us big heads. For those struggle with it while cooking, I have mentioned a suggestion I use are face your camera to the floor and you won't be as distracted by the head.
For those who struggle**
In very simple terms, the giant head changes visual scale, movement cues, and screen motion enough to create sensory mismatch, which leads to motion sickness.
Also to add, the bobble introduces repeated delayed motion cues that are in conflict with expected movement, which then creates sensory mismatch that accumulates into motion sickness over time.
So bobble + giant head both are the issue for some
for me its really weird cause honestly i have no idea what about it got to me and caused my migraine
idk if maybe i do have motion sickness and it just takes a LOT to trigger it? idk if its just my eyes were sensitive to the movements that i wasnt fully processing? i have no idea honeslty
It also renders the cuticle for reduced motion sickness useless from what I've heard, which is a feature that helped most people to reduce motion sickness. Aside from well, some people simply don't like April's Fools and don't want to feel like they're "forced" to participate in a joke.
Popping in before work, but for me specifically it was the way it moved while running. walking was fine, but running gave me a migraine and was worse when coupled with ranching since it zooms the camera in weird
It affects everyone differently for sure. I rarely have motion sickness in games, but irl I do. I had a headache when I tried logging on, and it definitely felt odd.
Oh yeah, the ranching camera zooms made it worse too. I tried experimenting with it and yeah, I definitely can see it. I hope you're better now though, migraines are not fun.
oh i hate the zoom regardless of the big head lol. its very jarring to zoom in that close so quick, i try to just do it as quick as possible to get it done and overwith
Yeah it seemed like the persistent center reticle highlighted the additional motion since it's on or near the players head
I'm really sensitive to bright flashing lights so I can't play games that have those so I kinda understand. I'm sorry everyone is going through this. I also didn't mean any ill intent when I was laughing the other day btw. I actually did not understand what was going on and was genuinely confused. Everyone was talking at once and I couldn't keep up with messages or even read everything fully.
i guess i have experienced motion sickness with one other game that I cant play because of it, but i also get motion sickness sometimes when im not the one driving, so i feel that. it was just so weird because honestly i had no idea what was going on and why it caused such a bad migraine
You might want to be careful doing certain activities in the game then, since some can have some big flashes, specially when done repeatedly (i.e mining, bug catching, chopping trees). I mean this genuinely, as a warning, because it's affected many folks.
I'll also add that migraines aren't just a very bad headache. It's a neurological condition which, among many other symptoms, affects how our senses process things. So visuals that might seem like nothing to a regular person can be debilitating to us. Which is why it may be hard for those who don't get migraines to understand when we say the bobbleheads were a problem. You're lacking a point of comparison b/c your brain doesn't process things like ours do.
my eyes are also sensitive to bright flashing lights, so i get that one. i dont get seizures but it does make me dizzy and give me a headache when i watch too much. usually i will close my eyes and only open them a sliver to see if it is done, or listen for verbal ques with some youtubers (markiplier does flashing light warnings in a lot of his videos which is very helpful)
I have been doing those and haven't been bothered. I'm talking about those anime games or final fantasy.
this very much. it was so bad last night, the worst i have ever experienced actually. most commonly they go away when i sleep, but last nights persisted through sleep and everything, to the point i called my mom borderline crying at 1 this morning half unable to form full sentences. it was just too much pain
Oooof, so much sympathy.
I understand, it's just a warning because there have been instances of flash lights in this game that have been quite strong, mostly fireworks or when snowballs had a flash effect when hitting players.
I love that he does that. He and his editors are so good about making it easy to know when it's safe to look again. I wish more followed that example.
I usually don't notice it but when I do I need to take a break and grab eye drops
Hunting can get quite eye straining too when it's in close distance.
thank you. ill definitely be avoiding the game the rest of the day just incase. i also agree, i have noticed it in a lot of his videos that they will put up big text that gives you an audio cue for when you can look again and it is super helpful
It should hopefully go away in around 30 mins iirc. But I'd say best to avoid it for today, yeah. Take care! I hope you feel better soon.
The concept of flashing lights does offer an example in the other direction in terms of lack of understanding. I've had migraines since I was a child, so for me when I come across things like concerts with strobe lights behind the performers it's honestly impossible for me to understand how anybody could enjoy it. All strobe lights are to me is agony. Doesn't mean someone is bad for enjoying them, I just lack the point of comparison to understand why they do.
yeah, i have some homework to do anyways lol. thankfully with a hot shower the migraine mostly went away so i was able to sleep which helped finish getting rid of it
I did my taxes last night. Whole lotta adulting going on while I couldn't play 😄
Oh I know and it's appreciated. I kinda do get annoyed by the fireworks sometimes in this game but it's not for that reason. It's just loud and annoying but I am at the age where I bite my tongue a lot and just block it out now.
i just finished mine now loll. i also did my car registration (america, woo! /sar)
Fair yeah. Hopefully they do make a toggle for those someday.
I try to keep in mind that a lot of the players could be young kids trying to have fun with no ill intent to upset people so I don't want to take that from them.
Oh definitely, I understand that too. But it's also why a toggle would be ideal so people can have fun with it and those who could be affected can play without issues.
Yeah, I think s6 could've avoided a lot of agita if they'd provided some kind of opt out for people. Ah well, lesson for them for next year.
Yeah, ive noticed a lot of people that dont understand saying that s6 "just cant win" with anyone and im like, i mean, they can at least be a bit more sensitive with those kinds of things, knowing that a large amount of their player base does play because of the easy accessibility and such
Exactly, it's why I hope they simply take this as a learning opportunity, there's more value in learning from mistakes than simply stopping. It's not a matter of "winning" imo, simply to learn and improve.
Yeah, i agree. I think disability accessibility and sensitivity isnt a situation where "winning" matters. Like with the trigger warnings. It doesnt hurt anyone to include things or include options to turn off certain mechanics, especially when they are just cosmetic like this one is.
Yeah exactly! Something we've been asking and hoping for for a while. Toggles allow everyone to be able to enjoy the game without taking anything away from anyone.
And those of us who need accommodations already know there's no one size fits all solution. We're familiar with trying to find compromises. I'm not here saying s6 needs to ignore their entire user base to code an experience that caters to all of my unique needs and nothing else. But there's big picture things that allow accessibility for a large number of people while not hurting the user experience for those who don't need those things. That's the kind of thing we're hoping for.
Absolutely
Mhm, exactly. Even basic things like a UI slider, zoom in features, would go a long way.
Just logged in, can confirm the big head is off.
BLESS YOU. I was waiting to make sure it wasn't something like you had to do a quest to get rid of it
It now remains as a filter in the camera settings.
that's cool. See? Nice compromise
I was not terribly bothered by the bobble head thing, and I do get motion sick in games. However, I also have my screen shake turned off and never play in first person. Simply an observation, and possible solution for those that did not know about the setting.
Also, I am wholly on the train that we should be able to limit or turn off particle effects. They are not cozy, they are like someone wearing a gallon of very bad perfume for some of us. I was not bothered by the snow even though some of it was very white and glittery. I was bothered by the fact that it hid stuff on the ground (like bugs), then again bugs in the ground are still a problem overall anyway.
These are things that have been pointed out and asked for since Alpha. Do not hold your breath.
And while I am here and on my soapbox...
Mental health and the expression of it in Palia, and how the NPCs are treated and react to their issues is terrible. While I agree that the Tree questline was not cozy and maybe should have carried a warning of some sort, I was not opposed to the exploring of those topics. I just wish that some of the handling was better.
Self harm should not be romanticized. Neither should depression and anxiety in general, there are terrible character tropes present in Palia and we have asked repeatedly to alter some of the language or show the actual ability to seek help. My grandchildren should not hear Jel talking about wishing to drown himself because he thinks it would be peaceful. Our character should not just blow off such a comment.
I like Palia, I don't love it, but I can still hold onto the hope that S6 will take those of us in this channel more seriously and actually look at the optional toggles that have been asked for. And have someone sit down to look at the dialogues and responses and offer better conversations. Maybe I can love it someday and feel safe letting the grands play when they learn to read better.
Wholeheartedly agree. I think there can be a space for these kinds of topics but it should be treated with grace. Stardew has some story lines dealing with heavy subjects and while not perfect, I think it def does a good job of handling it both in the player responses and characters development (again, it's not perfect but I think it's handled well).
I would love to comment on this. I absolutely agree that there is a large portion of the palia fan base that is neurodivergent. Heck, I would probably say the majority is neurodivergent. This means that a lot of the topics that we do discuss in palia are HUGE because in a way, it almost promotes a sense of belonging and normalcy in the abnormal everyday feelings we have.
That being said, I absolutely agree that there should have been at least some sort of warning on the topics that were mentioned in the newer update, simply because of some of the darker themes. I don't remember Jels comment, but that is very sad too that it is mentioned and we are able to just brush it off. Granted this isn't really a game where we can give personalized message to the NPCs, there should be at least some sort of empathetic response, and or it shouldn't have been included in the first place.
Also that being said, I do think it was good to delve more into those stronger topics, because it doesn't just ignore them. This war has been talked about for a long time, story-wise. I feel like it would have been more insensitive to not introduce the war and talk about it at least a little bit more. I think they did a very good job of how they talked about it. I also think they have done a fairly good job in introducing other not as common deeper topics such as the mafia and chronic illnesses with Tish. I do really love the inclusivity with this game and the ability to show off different personalities like eloisa and her very obviously neurodivergent tendencies in her behavior, as well as caleri even in her love of books and fairly non-emotional demeanor, which is also common with autism. I would be curious of what other terrible character tropes you feel are there, just as a discussion topic honestly.
Another thing to say, I wouldn't say that pallia is a game for kids. I don't feel like most games, especially games that do have a very strong online base and a chat feature should be available to kids younger than 16 just because of the mental and emotional damages it can cause to them growing up. There are way too many things that can happen in a game chat. So I would agree that it wouldn't be inappropriate game for younger children, but I also don't think that that's as big of a deal because most games really aren't, so personally I don't feel like that is as big of a deal. I also do strongly believe that there are some topics that absolutely should be talked about with younger children when they show emotional readiness. There is no specific age for some conversations, but if they are showing that they can handle it and they are asking about things, I strongly believe that that is the correct time to talk to them about it. Meaning if they're 13 and asking about SH things, they deserve a sensitive, child appropriate conversation for it
Just addressing to the last paragraph, but I honestly find Tamala's entire trope to not be great. (Just wanted to mention, I also agree with your message and points)
I can 100% agree on that, the whole using potions to stay young? As well as honestly the emotional (and spiritual) abuse of using spells against another person
I definitely can see where they got inspiration from her (mostly thinking of Mother Gothel from Tangled) but just the overall way she interacts with players, her "relationship" with Hassian and all, it's very uncomfortable. Some of her lines definitely toe the line as well, and I love characters like Bayonetta but it feels different being in Palia, as opposed to Bayonetta that has a M rating.
Not saying Palia needs to be such a rating of course, but again, some of her lines definitely aren't what I think some parents would deem appropiate for children (at least I know mine likely wouldn't).
(i also want to say, i love this conversation and am so glad to find someone that will talk about this with me loll)
Agreed, it's always great to be able to have deeper conversations about these subjects.
I don't think that I have ever heard of that game or know anything about it, but I would definitely say that there are some of tamala's lines that are a little bit questionable, but then again you can insinuate mature activities with both jel and reth that I know of, so I think it kind of goes both ways with them as well. I will agree that her as a character is slightly questionable though. She definitely has a very mature feeling to her at least, I would say
Not going to get deep into that game since, again, it's rated. But it's centered around a witch character that is flirty. But yeah like you said, there's some suggestive dialog in the game and I'm not necessarily sanctioning that, just that some of it might be a bit too much for the audience/rating they're aiming at.
On one hand I agree, but at the same time I do slightly disagree. The part of me that disagrees knows that honestly, I feel like it's aimed at teens and older, I don't think I could say I could see anyone younger than 13 or 14 playing it. Once again, that's just because of the fact that there is an end game chat function, and (with any good parent),a child younger than 13 isn't going to be playing a game that has an in-game chat to talk to strangers online. With that in mind, I think that by the time you hit that age, you do have some general knowledge of certain suggestive activities. I know personally when I was 14, I knew a basic amount of about that stuff because of my own puberty along with other things I had been exposed to at that age range. Nothing incredibly risque, just general content. So if anything I think some of the dialogue options would just spark a little giggle and slight blush, if they even knew what it meant
But i Don't personally feel like slightly, and I mean very slightly because It is very brief and we all know doesn't end up going anywhere, suggested material isn't that bad for teens older than 14 to 15. I don't feel like it is graphic enough to be considered overly suggestive material to where it needs any sort of warning personally. Then again, I don't have kids, I'm 22 and I do recognize that I did have a little earlier exposure than some do. I also know that for me, if my parents had talked to me about certain things instead of trying to shelter me from them and pretend they didn't exist, I would have been a lot better off. That's just me
I definitely understand this, like I said, I'm not necessarily sanctioning those lines and there definitely is the topic of parental responsibility and what parents deem what is and what's not appropriate for their children (which is not my place to say). God knows I've definitely played or read some not so age appropiate stuff back in my day without parental supervision.
There's definitely nothing that's too suggestive (aside from maybe one of Tamala's lines) and there is some contention with the rating (I know Lacie talked about this some time ago). It's a nuanced topic, for sure.
As a gentle reminder, this channel is for accessibility discussion. We have #💬│palia-discussions for some of the discussions you are having.
Sorry boss!
From a mental health accessibility standpoint, there were definitely things that were not good for me. I don't mind them being in the game as a concept, but I have adopted the habit of checking out walkthroughs either via the wiki or YouTubers just to be on the safe side. That way I either know to avoid it if it's optional or I can do what I can to mitigate the issue if it's not. Which I offer in case that helps for anyone else to be aware of.
The game REKA has a pop up (that you can toggle on or off) that warns you when you are getting close to a quest of any trigger warnings involving it and mentions whether it is an optional quest or not
It's not very intrusive and would like to see other games try that going forward
Exactly! Accessibility features do no harm to those that dont need them and greatly improve life for those who do. Its like the old picture of the school steps being covered in snow with a group of children, one inna wheelchair asking the janitor why he isnt shoveling the ramp first, and the janitor says "because they need the stairs" while ignoring the fact they can ALSO using the ramp, which opens up a way for both groups. Accessibility features are still usable for people who dont need them
(pls tell me yall know what i mean 🤣)
Ah! Here
Not really a compromise though since it removes it as a playable feature. Although it is nice they’re giving us the option for it in photos
Considering it made the game unplayable for quite a few people for almost two days, and that it WASN'T meant to stay, it IS nice that they kept it as a photo filter, would have been nicer if the option to turn it off was present from its release. Also, 30 WHOLE MINUTES and it comes back every single time you switch zones or servers? That's not a prank, that's a CURSE for those with motion sensitivity.
Could have been a fun idea, but a poorly thought out execution made people miserable, when all they wanted was to be able to play without feeling sickened.
I am not personally affected by this specific issue, but hell do I know what it feels like to try to advocate for yourself and getting dismissed or not taken seriously. 😒
Tamala's spell that forces you to say nice things about her feels more like a suitable "prank" than this. 🙄
Anyone have any tips for adjusting the settings for motion sickness? Idk what to adjust
the persistent center reticle is about the closest you can get in terms of adjusting settings for motion sickness, enabling it will put a crosshair on your screen that will stay forever unless you decide to disable it
other than that really, there aren't really any other proper accessibility settings beyond changing general settings such as graphics quality and other generic settings
Thank you! I’ll give that a try
Turning off cinematic camera while cooking might help a little too, and adjusting the fov up/down to whatever makes you feel better (differs a lot per person)
Adjusting your mouse dpi up or down might change things too
the pins have some older docs with tips on what to change to be easier on the eyes in general, including for motion sickness
I desperately want more audio tracks to adjust. I find the UI and ambient sounds really overstimulating 😭
(and like others have mentioned, the flashing. flash reduction would be SO GOOD)
I know what you mean. I do like that there's audio cues to help those with vision difficulties. But sometimes I forage things not because I need them but because I need them to SHUT UP. 😄
ABSOLUTELY lol I often forage shells in particular because they are LOUD and i am trying to do some tranquil fishing! 😆
and yeah the audio cues are helpful but sometimes i need shh
just curious, what accessibility features are there in palia so far? cuz I was a bit surprised to see this chat?
the closest to an actual accessibility feature is this crosshair option #♿│accessibility-discussions message
other than that really, there arent any others that i could think off the top of my head, though there are tips and tricks that players have created to sort of help them with their accessibility issues #♿│accessibility-discussions message
ohh I see, do the creators look here for suggestions or is it just sharing tips?
There's also some colour blindness filter options in the graphics settings if I remember correctly, at least on PC. Field of Vision settings and the speed settings could also count, I guess. Not sure if these are available on all platforms though.
oh thank you, that's good to know, cuz my boyfriend is colorblind and I'm trying to get him to play with me!
!feedback is where you would put your suggestion directly to the devs, here its more or less ppl sharing each others experience along with sharing tips and tricks

thanks so much, ngl I think everyone I've met so far playing palia is very nice ppl, im pretty new to the game
They're a bit hidden, I think they're under screen calibration in the graphics settings but I might be remembering wrongly.

#♿│accessibility-discussions message found it

Im just curious, but does your boyfriend prefer to play games with a color blind filter? My brother is color blind and he hates color blind filters because he says they "make everything look like spongebob"....I told him that i think hes just seeing different colors and thats how everything is supposed to look but he still doesn't like it
I haven't thought to ask, but I know he usually uses it when there is an option tho
will have to ask him now, I had'nt given much though to it, although I do know not every colorblind fliter works for him since there are diffrent types of color blindness
Are there any plans to allow players to skip a quest or auto-complete it? I'm currently working on the "It Takes a Village" quest, and I'm deathly afraid of heights. My hands are sweating so badly, and I feel sick trying to glide between these islands.
yes but also no, we haven't heard an update on going back to add help and alternate methods to the pre roots temples since this #💬│palia-discussions message
yeah he prefers it, he is also red green color blind
I had to have my husband do some of the quests for me. My hands are messed up, my reflexes are poor, my eyesight is bad, and I get anxious easily due to various health issues.
They should give you the option to pay a villager to help you through the more difficult temples.
This is so true! Bc same I was so annoyed by this one quest I let someone else finish it for me 🥹
Same with the balloons my hands hurt so bad while doing that haha (pop the chapa)
Double wrist braces and finding a controller that felt comfortable in my hands helps a little with the pain. Plus a squishy pillow to support my hands. But this game does require a lot of repetitive motions that are painful.
Yes I see but that’s most games tho, but yes a skip option would be cool for some long quests :)
i've been wearing arthritis compression gloves, and i remapped the tool use button to a thumb button on my mouse so i can give my poor index finger a rest
i'm a keyboard and mouse user, no controller for meee
I prefer mouse and keyboard, but I'm bedbound now. Have to play while laying down, so a controller is the only way for me to play now. :/
Hai there, this is more of a #💻│tech-help question vs accessibility
On the 10M Celebration page (in-game), just be aware that it's showing fireworks visual effects.
the fireworks are delayed for about 5 seconds so in theory you could move really fast to claim before they start up. They're multiple colors over the entire background card, but they are slower than usual - attachment is a still of some of it
how to access this celebration page? --------- also is there an artifacts trade tab on here im missing???

I wish that besides the regular posts in #📢│palia-news and #📢│community-news , there was a channel with bulletpoint summaries of those messages... I haven't had time to read any of those since 1st april, and I'm getting nowhere with reading, as my adhd keeps bouncing off, my dyslexia is cursing me for trying to read and my autism is exploding in excitement every time I see the word horse 😅
Can someone please summarize the important stuff that I missed this month? At this rate, it'll take at least a week to get through all that text
Royal Highlands drops on the 12th of May.
Highlights include:
New horse mount with three variants, that can be bred and raised in your ranch.
A new sernuk huntable
A second new huntable called a Jaakat
New echo "Amber Echo" that freezes things in place for days, weeks, years, ect. Can cover trees, rocks, animals, and insects.
Mounts can be used in all the maps except: Inside the underground, in kilima town center, and in houses.
The campfires in Royal Highlands will be usable, and the plan is to make the ones in Kilima and Bahari usable too.
A new community event that gives rewards based on much distance the community covers while mounted.
New bugs, fish, ores, gatherables ect.
Storage upgrade "Jadium" that will take up from 14k to 18k total storage.
New housing line inspired by ancient humans, includes a deck and new bay windows.
A new NPC, Eshelon, the heir to the Bahari family dukedom, and Kenli and Eshe's nephew.
See above ^^^
Thank u for this !!!!!! Appreciate it
Absolutely, I understand how hard it can be to focus when you're super excited by all the new stuff.
I definitely need to relearn the game, again. Seems like I missed out on a lot more 😅 so there's no horses yet?
The horses release on the 12th with the update. 🙂
Yes haha and I watched the video but can’t listen to something for 8 mins

I want to but I just can’t concentrate haha
Same here lol
Some of the Palia partners have made some really helpful videos, when I feel like I can't focus, I put one of those on at like 2x speed on YouTube.
Now I need to find the motivation and focus to relearn the game so I can get horses when they release, while star stable (online horse game) is about to add more stuff to an area I've been obsessing over for months...... 👀
I really should write down how the game works lol, I keep playing for a week or 2 and then abandon it for months. It's never going to stick in my memory this way
I made it my hyperfocus game months ago and have played daily since
My hyperfocus lasts at most a few weeks 🤷♀️ not long enough to stick something in my memory with my brain damage. The only game that sticks in my memory regardless of how long I do or dont play it, is star stable. But I've been playing that for almost 11 years so 🤣
I played a few hours in 2024 i think and in march started again, finally clicked and played for weeks 🫠 now its a bit more casual as im waiting more content (and cant be bothered to finish) and meanwhile windrose it is
I tried pointing out siri doesn’t recognize the word palia and general chat kinda made me feel silly for it 😭 using ai for information isn’t always a good thing but I’m
Sure there’s people who would rather use voice recognition than type or read sometimes
I’ve found a work around and it’s just spelling P A L I A when you ask 😂
Missed it last time, but I usually do something close to that for patch day in a thread https://discord.com/channels/809856101326913567/1382766801590419457
I'm not looking for the full patch notes though, just a brief summary of the main things that changed
yeah it ends up at about half the length and all bullet points instead of a mix of bullet points, paragraphs, pictures, gifs, and tables. Hard to make a summary of 50 different changes shorter than 50 bullets
Anything on if or when a text scaler will be added? really hard to see controls 🙁
is there anyway to add accessibility for fishing and making the bobber/fish always the highlighted yellow like when your view is blocked? i don't normally have eye problems and perhaps its bc i'm playing on a switch but fishing isn't fun at all because i can never see the bobber esp when the fish fights to be caught and the movement is so rapid
a weird accessibility idea - since people usually communicate using the map grid - it'd be nice to know where we are without having to open the map, check the numbers, close the map, open the chat, write a message - because i can't remember numbers and codes unless i check them twice or more
a minimap would be ideal but. even just knowing roughly the map position would help

Not as a setting, but you can force it by making sure there's always an object/obstacle between the camera and where you cast to force the yellow silhouette/highlight.
There are also higher visibility bobbers from events (so you have to wait for them to come around again) and progression (not helpful i know).
this would be immensely helpful for people on consoles/using controllers
I don't think this will be overly helpful since you need to advance a bit to get it, but there's some bobbers you can get from Einar that might make it easier to see (like the lantern bobber, or a non blue one)
that would be a good thing to submit to feedback
as far as I'm aware controller support is still a work in progress (or at least it is for pc) either way I haven't heard anything..
There still isn't a workaround for waypoints when using a touchpad computer is there? (I can not click the scrollwheel if I do not have a scrollwheel.)
You should be able to use three finger gesture on the touchpad to simulate the wheelscroll click
aha, I had to go in and fiddle with settings, but that did it! Thank you!
Great news! I'm glad that worked for you!
I have difficulty with dizziness, migraines, neuro fatigue. Obviously I only play when feeling comfortable to. I do have the little cross spot in the center of the screen on to help dizziness. But I’ve noticed fishing can be difficult for me. Is there a way to change the yellow ( ) to a different color? And also to make it lite even the entire time you’re reeling in?
Unfortunately no to both. At one time there was a glitch when the light would stay on and I remember thinking, can we have this permanently? Lol.
As a dyslexic person, I often struggle to read certain fonts, but I'm glad I don't have this problem in Palie. However, I know others might have difficulties, so it would be nice to be able to choose from different fonts.
I remember that too!
I know I mentioned I didn’t mind it because it helped,, as I’m sure others did as well. Maybe they’ll change that in the future. I haven’t seen an update (or I’d they have, very many) that add options like this.
Ooo different fronts or colors of text/backgrounds!
Just different fronts
What fonts work best for you?
Does anyone know of a way to deal with the Temple of Gales if you have a major fear of heights? Needing to jump into the air streams with nothing underneath me makes my stomach turn, makes my heart race, and makes my hands shake. I want to be able to continue the main quest line, but I'm having a terrible time with this part of the quest. If I put in a support ticket is there anything S6 can do or might be willing to do to help?
I don't know many, but I use Gothic Bold and Bubble.
Something that make the text "light" and not crowded.. sorry i don't know how to say it better 😓
Closing my eyes or fixing something a point right in front of me help and obviously don't look down.. Good luck you can do it
No you’re good! I understand that completely. My issue is how small the text is, like in the storage box when I’m looking at items.
Thank you for the suggestion. Unfotunately, those things won't work for me. 🙁
I wish they would add a skip function or some alternative for folks with height fears - I have a friend that I had to do the temple for because of that
they gotta let vega develop and implement the alternate methods #💬│palia-discussions message
Can we get an option for walk toggle/hold/tap similar to the various options for sprint toggle/hold/tap? I'd like to walk through the world without having to hold the button down.
there should be a option in your settings gameplay tab, it should just say 'sprint setting' (i misread nevermind
)
do you think it is helpful exposure for any? for ex, i have a fear of roaches and when i played a game with them in vr, it really helped me. and my fear of them is huge and debilitating
For some people maybe, but the purpose of exposure therapy is that it's a choice and there is always an option to withdraw - thats why it exists. With the temple, being unable to complete it results in people being left behind with zero alternative /gen
🥲 As one of the people who can't do Gales because of height fears and things similar, this would not help me at all. I have a huge panic attack, my stomach flip flops, and it's just overall not a good experience.
A game that I 'pushed through' or attempted to, that had something with heights, is Infinity Nikki. There was one part/section in specific where it made things very very difficult, and it just overall was not a good experience (Dont want to go into detail).
Like Froggies said, it might help some people, but for others, it would not. And forcing people to "go through with it" without an alternative, is... not great. Having workarounds, alternatives, etc, would def be preferred. I mean, it's also why a lot of games introduce arachnophobia mode!
(I'm glad that VR helped you with your fear of roaches, though! That's great
)
makes sense, you're right about the "option to withdraw." The choice has to be there
I hadn’t thought of this before! I know some games have certain modes for people with arachnophobia but I never thought about other phobias. I have a phobia of roaches and I remember having a mod on Minecraft that gave me more animals (Alex’s mobs) and I was not prepared for the roaches 😭 when I was building my house and the lighting wasn’t properly lit yet, they kept spawning and it freaked me out so bad! It took me a bit to figure out how to go into settings and stop them from spawning unprompted but when I did, it definitely helped. I’m glad there was an option to do that or I most likely would’ve uninstalled the mod altogether despite how great it was, roaches are one thing I CANNOT do, even in games apparently 😭 so I absolutely understand this and think having some kind of option or mode in place for those with a severe fear of heights would be beneficial! I have a fear of heights though thankfully it’s not as severe as my fear of roaches and as long as I’m not on any irl heights, I’m usually fine but there are times when watching videos or playing games with heights that it makes me queasy. And the temple of Gales was a rough one, especially with the height factor. I think your idea would be super helpful!
That sounds HORRIBLE bro
It was 😭
heads up that people will start getting a new fireworks recipe today so you might run into more people than usual setting them off
there are fireworks in a roblox game that i didn't even realize probably triggered people when i would use them 100 times in a row
<@&1216796663071637585>
aint that you xd
Aw mana, Finn is still stretching their toe beans 💜
either way, you guys are doing a good job, keep it up
Still in training, but you have a point. I'll try to keep it in mind for next time.
Shew sometimes it be like that with bots 😅 anyway now to back to our regularly scheduled programming
Anyone found a way to control fishing with the keyboard?
I have acute neuropathy and trying to catch the good fish actually hurts and I am unable to keep up with the movements necessary
In windows there is a way to turn your keyboard numpad into mouse input, is that something that could work for you maybe?
oooh this could be a solution, I will look into it when I am home tonight, thanks a lot!
Will try to timestamp in a few moments, but wanted to give a general warning, that the expansion trailer they dropped, has multiple flashes and particle effects.
Time stamps, there's a lot more than i thought::
0:18 seconds in- some particles from breaking an ore node (not a lot, though)
0:22-0:24 seconds in-- A lil bright light near the front of the screen, and then showing more bright particles from shooting.
0:25-0:28 seconds in-- Same as above, showing colourful (and some bright imo?) lights, and then after shooting, bright particles.
0:29-0:30 seconds in-- Highly recommend skipping this. Right at the front of the screen, bright flashing particles.
0:33 seconds in-- The usual particles you'd see from like, disco deer. But still wanted to mention.
0:38-0:40 seconds in-- Again, highly recommend skipping this part. Almost like a flash bang with how bright it is and how close to the front it is.
0:41-0:45 seconds in-- Not really bright, but just shows particles in general that could be overstimulating to some.
0:51-0:53 seconds in-- A bit of bright near the front/main view and particles. It's not as bad as some others, but still wanted to mention it.
0:54-0:56 seconds in-- Again, highly recommend skipping this one. Large, bright and particles in the front of the screen.
0:56-0:57 seconds in-- Not bright really, but just shows some particles in general. Wanted to mention just in case.
Unfortunately the setting for controlling the mouse with the numpad in windows doesn't work for Palia, I assume because it is about the input in the game rather than the outcome of the button being pushed.
I've been thinking about this quite a while and I really would love a save/wishlist option in the Premium Store!!
Almost everytime I go into the Premium Store, those are the times I can't afford to buy anything..
And when I want to buy those things once I can afford them, I can't find them as easily again... It's just such a hassle! 😩
!feedback submit it!! I agree, there's so much stuff now it's hard to find the thing you want sometimes

I don't know if this has been asked before, but is there any info on whether the Elderwood fish will have the same yellow aura as the Kilima and Bahari fish? Or some tips for partially blind players to help with this? It's really difficult to see it in comparison to the reticle in the Elderwood without that yellow highlight.
you can try and position yourself in a way where the camera will be obstructed by a wall or something, the game will then put a highlight onto the fish to show where it is going since your camera will be looking at the wall, you can also tru and use different bobber cosmetics to help make it easier to see it in the water
Do you have any bobber suggestions?
me personally, i use the pumpkin bobber mainly since i got it in the spiritfest bundle, though its personally up to you, i never really struggled with fishing in the first place so the bobber colors dont matter to me, all i can really do is show you this compliation of most of the bobbers that exist in the game and for you to figure out which one is the best for your needs
also to note: i do not own the pyroflow or the frogbert bobber, you are on your own on looking those up if you wanna see them
The obstruction trick helps with the docks, but not for freshwater fish. Any suggestions?
these are all possible spots to fish for freshwater, try and see if any of these locations have any walls or obstructions that will do the obstruction trick
beyond that, all you can do from that point is rely on your bobber cosmetic
I use the colorblind setting on my tv & monitor. So, typical when I am going to fish I do it all at one time so I don't have to keep changing it back and forth. I'm not sure what you play on, but I do console and PC. I adjust the saturation & brightness for situations where I either have a hard time seeing because it's super dark or if it's too bright. It doesn't work as well on my TV but on my PC it works wonders.
So I actually came here to ask how everyone deals with the elderwood. It genuinely causes my medication to stop working and then the spitting animals freaks me out. My heart rate got to 150 playing last night and I ended up fear quitting and I completely forgot how to use the map to get home, screamed very loudly and woke my child up. Just not a great experience. I understand I can't die and I don't lose anything. I literally have no access to auni (I'm terrible with names) because he is stuck somewhere I can't find on the map and keep getting turned in circles. I used to play Ark so I know the spitting animals are not the issue, but it's like jump scare every time I go in there. Someone in the main chat recommended trying it with no sound or play music I like and adjust the brightness so it's not so dark, but my Lanta it literally causes me to almost faint if I stay there too long. I know I'm 25 and I shouldn't freak out about it, but I have no clue why I freak out so badly. It's like going there triggers my little autistic brain to have a meltdown. Mind you, I USED TO PLAY ARK.
Aww, dang. And Ark scares me more. Did you recently do the Prismbeard's Lost Treasure quest with Auni? He's probably stuck in a cave somewhere if you can't see his icon on the map. I would try looking it up on YouTube and following along with the quest to see if that helps, but take breaks in between to catch your breath. I had a hard time with that quest too trying to figure out where he went, and it took me several days to finish.
I get it those ogi guys spitting out those things. I've had a jump scare a few times too. You're not alone and I'm in my 30s. I get scared of a lot of things in game and inrl. I'm scared of heights and seeing underwater freaks me out in games and rl.
If it’s the part where Auni is “lost” in Elderwood he’s up a tree in the deep woods xx
patch notes include animated gifs starting after the "Getting on your (high) Horse" subheading
From the patch notes about horses and how they handle:
||Here are a few ways you can customize your ride to be more comfortable for you:
Steering and Camera: By default, the camera turns with your horse, but you can change this to manual, fully automatic, or hybrid modes in settings.
Menu Behavior: Horses will pause automatically when you open menus like dialogue or the map. However, we realize some players may want to keep riding while they have menus open, like the map. You can adjust this to keep your horse moving while interacting with menus.
Speed Control: Tap up and down to finely adjust speed, or hold up to move as fast as possible. Holding S (or holding down on the left stick) will stop your horse quickly.
Stamina and UI: A user interface element near your horse shows current speed, controls, and stamina, similar to the climbing meter. You can disable this in the Menu if you prefer a more scenic ride.
Collision and Jumping: If your horse hits an obstacle, it will buckle and stop. Horses can also jump, adding another layer of mobility to your travels.||
Really still wished they could add conversation transcripts on this game. Poor exhausted autoimmune brain forgets what they are talking about midway and then panics when I am given options on how to respond 🫠
Had put in a request quite awhile ago but they have it in Tears of the Kingdom and it's really helpful for those of us whose brains are overworked and need to relax
I'm constantly searching on the fansite abt the quest or Chat to check what they been saying !
The overviews at the start and in the first section of the patch notes are quite good, none of the warnings we all look for but still good. There's also a fair amount of lore woven into the patch notes so if you're a lore fan you'll want to find a way to read all of the patch notes directly

motion sickness friends might want to skip the cinematic some of the camera movements are rough - skipping is DEL on PC and shows at the start of the cinematic
Oof I wonder if we'll be able/have to hunt on horseback. I haaaaate shooting bows from horsebck
If we can, that will be metal and convenient
Hi, can you please add keyboard and mouse support on Xbox Series X ? I cannot use controller.
Keybindings have been reset
anybody else noticed the aim sensitivity slider not working? i have reported it as a bug at least 14 times, and given feedback several times, still nothing.
It seems like disabled gamers are being ignored as a way to force the social aspect of the game, but sometimes solo gaming is preferred, and even if we do party up, we can't contribute so we feel like more of a burden and it is not fun. Accessibility isn't just offering to help disabled individuals; it is making sure they can do things for themselves.

My mom loves playing but has such a fear of heights that she struggles sometimes. Does anyone here have any pointers that maybe feel the same way she does?
i guess the new cinematic plays every time you open the game? i assumed it would just be the first time after the update but i accidentally closed the game and had to skip the cinematic when i reopened. that will get annoying fast for someone like me who is constantly in and out of the game several times a day. at least it can be skipped 😅
i also just noticed the "skip intro movie" setting lol
The debuffs from elemental and/or shielded animals sort of flash into being with an aura around the edge of the screen for the duration

i love the mounts but because there's a lot of movement on the model (especially up and down) when you dash, dashing on a mount makes me motion sick really quickly 😭 i don't think anything can be done but i hope future mounts will have different animations so i can use them for longer periods of time🥺
idk if anyone else is having this issue if you struggle with motion sickness too?
does the royal highlands cinematic not have subtitles?
i have no idea what was said but i assume it wasn't important 😅
it might have them on youtube, you're looking for a video from august 2023
have you played with the new settings yet? if so do they make this better or worse? (probably too much to hope they fix it)
I am here to ask if anyone knows how to access Elderwood of you didn't access it the day of release? Because I have no access to Elderwood at all
I just had to go to bahari and walk through the gate, I dont know if you have to be at a certain point with the quest to enter in though
Got it thank you! Oh can I get the full image of that map please if possible
that image is a fan made collage of the in game maps
i have, they make it better but it's still too much different movement on screen because the horse bobs up and down basically on a lot of the dashing animations
thank you tho i agree it fixes some of it 😭

🥺
the aim sensitivity bug would be a lot less infuriating if successful hunting was not required for a quest 😭
Thankfully the bulletin board doesn't need starred antlers so requesting them is an option. I got mine done so will be saving any other antlers I get specifically for gifting to folks
Is there a way to steer the horse with the mouse instead of the keys? It's killing my wrist
Dont you have to have gotten them in the past though?
You do unfortunately. I know you get some as quest rewards occasionally, most notably from the one where ||Tau hides a bunch of antlers in Eshe's house||. There's also the option of grouping so that you can loot even if you don't manage to hit it, but obviously that's annoying for people that prefer to play solo or be self sufficient
I'm pretty sure you get that quest from leveling Tau's friendship ranks
with the new update, did any of those of us with bad motion sickness (even w reduced FOV and motion sickness settings) see any improvement? i haven't been able to play in MONTHS
Some people report the horse mount is motion sickness inducing, so you might want to be careful.
ty for the heads up!
Hey um, can I request here/receive a link so that I can request that the steering and the ability to make my horse go faster/slower be different controls from each other…….?
It’s really wonky on at least controllers for Playstation and it’s taken a lot of the fun of the game and new update out due to the way it was set up

what is this key, I don't have this on my keyboard, and NO it is not the up arrow

ohhh ok, thank you
when casting the indicator changes color when you hit a bubble/ripple spot - from blue or red to ... beige? amber?
wow i did not expect to get a cutscene with a voiceover upon entering the Royal Highlands. sadly no idea what it said as there were no subtitles :/
creepy sounding guy bemoaning the loss of his castle and money
Came here to say this! My expectations were set too high by the opening movie. lol
I couldn't play long yesterday before I got sick. Sorry! 🩷
The horse is for now not for vertigo-people I feel, and the new map felt the same motion sickness wise as elderwoods.
Has anyone’s Game been glitching since the update?
I just lost so much home decor trying to move it around my plot 😩😩
Yep, same here. Was so sick I couldn't play long. Not even long enough to get new recipes. Logged off after maybe 15-20 minutes, but started feeling it after 2 minutes on the horse.
Logged in here to see if anyone else is having trouble and...yep.
I agree totally. I had to abandon riding the horse it was so unwieldy with the keyboard. What can S6 have been thinking?
Does the settings here help at all? I'm on steamdeck and have been playing around with it still to find something that is comfortable
I too find the horse steering very.. unfriendly. If we only could use the same controls we use for the character to turn, I think it'd be far more comfortable to use the horse. I have no trouble as such with the speed controls, it's more the turning that's messing me up..
I'm doing feedback later. Why did they take back/not included persistent central reticule on horse back? T_T
yea the turning is rough, I've been spending time trying to get the trait that helps with turning to see if thats any better in the meantime 😥
if that helps, let me know. as it is now I can't use the horse, which was like well over 50% of why I was excited about this update XP
I am trying to find out if I am just missing a setting change or what. When I am on "foot" I can control the direction my character runs/walks by moving the mouse. I cant understand why I cant do this when on the horse. I have coordination issues due to Dyslexia and find the WASD awkward to operate and get them confused all the time (hence I only press Wand Shift for running and the rest is controlled by moving the mouse. Ugg this is so frustrating I cant controll my hourse so I am not even using it right now. If any one has suggestions for me to thy and fix this Please. other wise I hope they fix this.
I went looking for the mouse direction control in the settings only to come up empty. Hopefully they'll make such a thing a possibility, I know I'll be sending some feedback on the matter.
Nope, bc the speed is still controlled by the joystick (that also doubles for steering) despite having the ability to “reassign” where speed goes, it is still overall effected by the joystick which controls the speed and steering.
So the trait "technical" significantly betters turning for me!
I see what you mean, hopefully we get more adjustment options
That’s great, an entire trait shouldn’t determine if ppl can have better access to horses though
Absolutely, I work with accessibility gameplay and locking things behind a feature sit weird with me
am just suggesting it as a possible replacement in the meantime ☺️
I think they should rid the control scheme of the speed being controlled by and only by the same joystick, or by moving “forward” and “backward” from what I was reading in the here (conclusively).
Either make it a locking feature (so like, press in L3 or tap shift key to speed up, and press in R3 or tap control key to slow down,).
Or the second option, we treat horses like cars (in many other games’ cases) where there’s one very specific control to speed up and slow down (R bumper/trigger/shift key and L bumper/trigger/control key).
Or the secret third option, overall could even go with Red Dead’s method of repeatedly tapping the “run” button. But that itself is very tedious
(which ngl, would still be better than the current mechanics).
That implies knowing how to replace one’s own riding horse…I actually ended up getting the “white” and “iridescent” traits on my starting horse and the game won’t even register it
Which doesn’t honestly bold well either. But I’m hoping it’s just a glitch
RDR2 was what I was thinking as well, but with the option to hold for speed instead of tap
I sent my feedback but listed a few things and didn’t go into suggestions for speed, I think your suggestion is good though. I mentioned adjustments for motion blur, vfx (as always), persistent reticle thats separate to non-horse riding, and also that movement traits shouldnt be a thing.
Hopefully we see some improvements, I find myself just mostly running around still
Yea theres no tutorial :( I just figured it might be similar to switching pets, and it was but the UI could use some visual differenciating and details. If you dont name your horse uniquely you wont know which one you're selecting 😥
Yeah. Hopefully they listen to the community then
Er…this sounds horrible. But noted

If you click on them you can tell from the horses actual look, having its traits listed though would be helpful
@astral summit fancy feet also helps with turning but at the expense of stamina 🥲
Confused? I can't find that anywhere in mine...
I opened my menu, clicked on "collections" and then this page is under the sadle symbol
I really hate the riding controls on PC. It’s hard for me because I have arthritis in my wrists and you have to use four fingers to move. Plus, it makes me dizzy.
Oh ooo
Can you change in game text?
The size? No
i use controler how do i make it easer to control the horsee? it just zips off in a random directon and makes me motion sick
I put in a feedback request to change this - if enough people do so hopefully they'll change it soon

in the game settings, there's an option to decouple the camera from the direction the horse turns so it's purely based on your mouse
it made it 10x more playable
Thank you! I’ll try anything.
Also you don't have to hold down W to move. I recommend mounting up while holding still, otherwise your horse starts at full gallop. If you're holding still, the horse holds still, and then you can tap W or S once to change gaits between walk, trot, canter, gallop, and full run
I also found it less disorienting to change the settings so that the horse doesn't change gaits/go to a dead stop when you open menus or your map. Having full control helps my brain for whatever reason
I can't find that in my settings anywhere
The forward speed isn't really an issue. It's having to control the left right direction with keys. I want to control it with my mouse direction.
Yeah hopefully we'll get alternate movement eventually. The camera settings are in the first tab under Gameplay, scroll to the bottom
Did anyone ask yet if the persistent reticle could be added to the screen when mounted?
motion sickness is pretty hefty for me, also on all the different camera settings for the horse.
I wish i could just zoom out further, that would solve most of my issues. Had to stop hunting for the masks too before it gets worse 🙁
My work internet sucks, did the new dev blog thing mention accessibility at all?
no the mini dev blog is just a "where we've been" and a teaser of "where we're going", no detail .
Finally got around to getting my horse, since it wasn't very clear (imo, for me) how to get it or start it...
Definitely motion sickness heavy. Manual camera helped this for me, at least, since i can control the camera movement. But even then, there are def moments where I can see it causing issues. (for myself and others)
The fact that the persistent reticle is removed is a huge oversight, I think. Not sure if it was intentional, but it'd be great if they moved that back.
Having settings to have the movement lines from the horse, be completely removed (sometimes it appears when you gain momentum, sometimes it doesn't), could also help some folks, since that seemed a little disorienting for me at times.
And at least for me, not sure if it'd help others, having the hosre only trot in the "3rd" bar seemed okay for me. (Although I think i'd still just prefer running at this point, because man, does the horse move.
)
Is there any way to increase the text size?
Sadly, no.
Yes the motion sickness was awful for me today. It sucks, Palia’s the only game that I get so motion sick on and ofc it’s a game I really enjoy playing too. It’s like a curse. I figured out in settings they had some options and I tried them, and while I made some improvements, it still gets bad. I struggle with touring people’s houses, for example, if they have the twisty staircase. I feel so bad because they’re so pretty but everytime I go up them, I get motion sick and I’ve tried different settings but none have really been able to solve that specific trigger. The center option is okay, but I don’t like having to look at a plus screen the whole time I’m playing, you know? And now I’m hearing it doesn’t even stay on consistently when mounted on a horse? The mounted camera is pretty rough too, I finally saw I could switch to manual camera and it’s helped a bit but I didn’t play long enough to see if it truly worked because I was already motion sick from previous playtime. On or off horse, doesn’t matter, I get nauseous all the time 💔
It may also explain why I’ve had more frequent headaches. I have chronic migraines but I’m recognizing a pattern that almost everyday that I play this game, I get a headache that follows. Could very much be related.
It just sucks so much as I adore this game to bits but the motion sickness in this game is horrific 🙁
Also don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, I’m sure someone has but there 100% needs to be a subtitle options so we can see audible lines from characters. I am partially deaf but also, it’s easier for me to process conversations when I have subtitles. And it’s nice for when my headphones need to charge and I have to play without sound for a bit, I can still feel engaged and included in the world. But without subtitles, I miss a lot of the audible lines.
I'm really sorry that's happening
/gen. But please do remember your health comes first! It really is saddening many folks can't enjoy the game due to these issues.
That too, I did notice the new intro animatic has captions iirc? But surprised to hear the other ones don't, many games I play also have a review dialog option and that'd also be really helpful, like some people have suggested before.
Aw thank you, you’re so sweet 💗 I do try my best to take breaks when I can, I struggle with that sometimes due to just wanting to continue playing and finishing quests but I gotta get better at setting boundaries for myself 💗
I definitely understand that, and that's good too (setting boundaries for yourself, I mean). I really hope someday S6 gives us an update on the accessibility audit and that some implementation comes from it cause, people shouldn't have their health and well being put on risk from a game 😭
It may have! I can’t really remember but I think it did! And yes, it blows my mind. Many games I’ve played have either subtitles as an option OR characters don’t have audible lines. Palia’s the first game I’ve played that doesn’t have that feature even though there are audible lines. I’m just surprised it’s been out for 2 years and no one has thought to make captions an option yet?
Absolutely agree. It’s meant to be a cozy game, after all. It’s a way to destress from our real lives but when it’s making us physically sick, it’s so hard to get the full enjoyment we should be getting
I'd at least hope they're working on it but it's hard to know given the limited communication we get :( Worth submitting feedback for in hopes it catches their attention and they can implement it into the game faster.
Same here! And yes, for sure. Planning to send some feedback soon, maybe in the morning 💗
is there anywhere the bulletin board is posted here, I have poor memory and everytime I go back to my plot to get what I need i've forgotten what I need

Thanks, Jess!
Thank you!
this is a game changer, I cant beleive I didnt know about this! Thank you so much!
I see I'm not the only one suffering motion sickness. I'd had trouble with it in Palia before, but I changed the settings and it helped. Now, for some reason, it's back.
I remember which setting to change, but I don't remember whether low or high is better. Shrug emoji.
not sure how much this has to do with accessibility, but the way some quest dialogue now triggers automatically according to your exact location can be nice when you don't know where to go, but annoying in close quarters. i kept triggering a dialogue accidentally because i couldn't easily slip by the NPC to get where i had to go next.
Yes it’s bad, I’ve only been playing for a month and sadly nothing has actually helped me. Some settings can delay the motion sickness but I do still end up getting nauseous or get a headache after just a bit of playing. Definitely seems to be worse most recently though, even off the horse
YES PLEASE
I don't know if this has been bought up already or is planned for future, but I am one of the many people who suffer with motion sickness while playing the game so I have my 'Persistent Centre Reticle' turned on.
I noticed that with the recent update, while riding horses, we don't have our reticle on the screen, this causes myself and probably others a great deal of sickness even when turning the camera to 'Manual' while horse riding.
I would like to potentially see the option for our persistent reticle to carry over to horse riding so we have something to focus on while our screen is moving at a faster pace ~ Please and thank you! 💛
Best put this on feedback form
Where can I find that, sorry

Legend, thank you!
motion sickness is a lot worse on the horse if you enable automatic camera. i tried it out. the camera snaps to the horse and all the motions are a chaotic headache inducing nausea mess. hopefully that helps someone else
I enabled manual camera, allows you to WASD the horse without the camera moving but for me riding is still quite bad without my reticule to look at 🥲
yes we need that centre dot thingie
Since we're talking about motion sickness:
The camera rotation from the normal position to the camera position for interactions with small barn animals triggers my motion sickness more than anything else in the game. Every time I press A to interact with any barn animal I have to close my eyes and hope that my character is fully kneeling down and the camera rotation has stopped when I open them.
I haven't found anything in the settings to address this particular issue. Has anyone else here found anything?
Nope. I do the same. Since I'm on PC I can spam click through and hit Esc quickly while only focusing onto the non moving UI
You know I don't have problems with things scaring me but these fire afflicted cats get me sometimes 🫣 💀
Is there any way to size up the text in this game?? Apologies if this has already been asked
Okay yeah it looks like that's a no. That does seem like one of the things you would immediately implement for accessibility, no? :/
UI/text scaling has been a long time request and should be a basic thing for any game to have, tbh.
Specially with how they've enlarged some text/icons (pinned quests, drops) but others remain smaller.
Much agreed. It's usually the first thing I check for bc it makes such a huge QOL impact for me. I'm guessing I've checked many times and keep forgetting bc I think this has been a consistent issue for me with this game 🤔
Definitely agreed, not just for accessibility reasons but because it improves everyone's QoL in game! It's really such a base requirement in any game and I can only imagine how much worse it might be on smaller screens (such as, the Switch)
Does anyone know if a ticket can be submitted without an account? My son plays on his switch and for some reason the highland packs are still not showing in the store for him
This is a known issue and is being worked on by S6 (they have to work with Nintendo on this). You can use the support website without a support website account if needed (only certain ticket types), but it's highly recommended to get the switch character linked to a palia.com account.

When you have mobility issues with your hands/fingers, fishing is the worst thing about this game. Quests that require fishing are torture for me 😐
My glasses aren't up to prescription yet and im having a lot of difficulty reading the text, could we maybe add a 'make text bigger' button?
"We found where all the Star Quality Sillyfins were... Jaakcats appear to have a taste for them. All Jaakcats now have a chance to drop Star Quality Sillyfins." Due to my physical disability, hunting many creatures is impossible for me. Anyone know if they plan on actually fixing the fish issue completely?
I know they're trying to make a joke about it but I wish for once we'd get a serious answer/explanation tbh. Specially because they have to be aware hunting and fishing are prob the most inaccessible skills :/
Cause it's also kinda confusing tbh, are those now supposed to be acquired through the Jaakcats or is that what they're fixing?
the aim sensitivity slider would probsbly help (idk, i can only hit the one-shot creatures bc hitting a moving target is nearly impossible) IF IT ONLY WORKED. i have reported it as a bug at least 14 times and submitted direct feedback several times, i feel like they are ignoring me.
Sadly it's just one of those things we don't know how high up the priority list is, wish we'd hear back from the accessibility audit they mentioned almost a year ago to know for these sorts of issues.
Yep, this exactly. We've said it many times, it's evening the playfield for everyone.
Sadly agree 💔
was honestly considering quitting the game mostly on principle because i'm tired of being ignored. but i do have fun doing what i can do in this game. just frustrating when there are so many things i can't do, especially when they are required to make progress (like those platforming quests)
I’m guessing there is not, but has anyone found any way to auto loot? Multiple clicking or key pressing is challenging!
That is really frustrating, I tag team with my brother when there is something like that I can’t do - especially that temple in the air!
i don't think so, but i've remapped the interact/loot key to E (keyboard) so i don't have to reach so far. doesn't help much with repetitive button pressing, but might be a bit easier if you don't have to stretch yiour fingers so much.
Oh that’s really smart! Great idea. I think I might even have an extra mouse button I could use…I have inventory and map on mouse buttons
i couldn't grasp the horse riding controls so i became a horse
Really struggling a bit with the texture of some of the landscape and insects. For instance the more yellow ground makes it impossible to see the amber beetle or the flame queen
I'm so sorry 🫂 I'm not sure if it would help but I've been using ring splints lately, they make it a little easier when holding a controller
there have been mobility/coordination issues with bug catching as well for a while, so i've gotten in the habit of just ignoring bugs and don't even know what most of the new ones look like
Really hope they'll add a wasd control for it (if it already is wasd then I might mean mouse control, impaired memory lol)
If the camera’s the problem, like it is for many, then change the 3rd setting from the bottom in settings (set ‘mount camera’ to manual) - it fixed the entire motion sickness issue for me.
It'd be really cool if they added accessible routes for some quests, especially temples. Rn I can't get past those moving platforms in the Temple of Roots (and other ones took many, MANY tries and aches to get there lol) The speed, precision and amount of clicking for it all is just too much for me (and I have hypermobility+frequent joints pain so yeah, lots of clicking ain't cool)
Have you tried setting your monitor contrast up? Might help with making the bugs more visible
Roots should have alternative routes at least in some places. I don't know if I caught a bug, but got teleported to the other side after falling too often in one of the spots, and in another one there was a somewhat hidden way around them using almost only climbing and jumping/gliding between non-moving things. I don't think it's fully accessible, but figured it'd be worth mentioning it. 100% agree on having more accessible routes in the temples though! (Or some kind of option that if you failed 30 times and talk to the NPCs, they help you.)
Question for a bystander, how is parkour in game inaccessible? I’m a bit confused
I'll try this tonight. I'm playing on steamdeck so hopefully it should be possible, tysm 🙂
Thank you, I will look into it! When I first saw those moving platforms I was absolutely mortified, but got to the Gardener by climbing 😊 but the ones you need to pass to press the button are just too much 😭 I tried gliding there too, but it didn't work
I hope it works for you, I also have vision issues where things blend together a lot so I gotta have my monitor tv and stuff turned up, also my mom litter HAS to have pink hair or I lose her lol
I can't speak for everyone, but myself it's mostly about everything being so fast with lots of buttons being needed to press at the same time. My eye-hand coordination is awful even irl. For example, when you try to glide/jump you need to both focus your mouse in one direction, click mouse and press W (and other example, collecting loot/bugs while running has my hand in really weird position and it kinda hurts) Some people have limited hand/fingers movement/range so not all combos are accessible for them
Wouldn’t the hand eye coordination just be made easier by practicing? Like I understand range of motion issues but that’s almost always a keyboard/ controller issue not the game
Probably to some point, yes. But it also can be caused by less visible disabilities. I'm autistic (and 20 so been on this earth for a lil while lol) and while I've been going to different practices/doctors (or wtv it's called in English), I still bump into things all the time on a daily basis, and my younger brother can't carry stuff from one spot to another without dropping it
Sorry, I'm just not sure how to better explain it 😅 I've just always been like that, awfully clumsy, and talking about it as something not "normal" is kinda difficult (to explain, not on emotional level)
No ik i also have autism and struggle with hand eye coordination but it is still a skill that gets stronger with practice hence like therapies and stuff yk?
Yeah, I totally get it! I guess I was just trying to say that while it is possible to practice and get better at, it never may go to a certain level for some people. For example, good enough to beat that damn temple 😭 I much prefer puzzles
Still though it’s meant to be a challenge and if they made it so anyone could beat it, wouldn’t that make it too easy for typical* people? Non disabled people do make up the vast majority of the players and the puzzles have to be doable and challenging to the majority or else the game would be way too easy and it would lose player retention
Sorry playing while typing hard
That's why I was thinking of something like an alternative route. Like someone suggested earlier getting NPC's help if you fail too many times or something like that. It's just really annoying to be stuck with the main storyline bc of one quest
I don’t disagree with a secondary route I just was wondering about how parkour would be an accessibility issue when it is a skill, not a like a thing meant to be easy(?)
Yeah yeah I see that :)! i was trying to get out my little thing about agreeing before I sounded like a dumb dumb lol
It's okay! 😂🫶 We're all a lil dumb dumb sometimes
Smiley face to show I’m like yay agree not passive aggressive sorry*
Just the first few things that come to mind (I'm sure there are other ones):
- With gales specifically, there have been many complaints from people who have issues with the height, so environmental stuff can cause problems even if the technical part of parkouring isn't a problem for that person.
- If you've got issues with precise movements, that'll make anything requiring precise jumps hard simply because you cannot move your fingers as precisely as would be necessary. (For example there are people whose nerves work in such a way that their hands/fingers are always slightly shaking which messes up things once you have to be very precise. Friend of mine will randomly press a button multiple times instead of once, for example.)
- Personally, I'm having a bit of a hard time with fast reactions and still pressing the right buttons - I can do it if I can plan a sequence of things to do, but if I have to react spontaneously or keep too many different buttons in mind that's... Personally, I can still do it but only with luck and enough tries that it becomes frustrating. Take a stronger version of that and I could easily see someone who can't do the temples at all. (And also, I'd say "technically possible but not without frustration" is something that in a game could use a workaround.)
- Issues with repetitive clicks or with holding a button for a longer time will cause problems for some of the parkouring.
Hope that helps explaining it a little :-)
Autism and tones = constant worry you sound rude lol
Same here 😅😂 that's why I use so many emojis, makes it a bit easier I think (and less overthinking lol)
Holding the button down is a huge one too 😭 I keep having my fingertips bending the other way than they should and it's a pain in the butt (and fast reactions too, it's a bit overwhelming)
The last one I don’t understand why it would be a game issue and not a your controller/keyboard issue?
Genuine question not trying to be a butt*
Special controllers/keyboards can absolutely help! But unless you manage to find a way to completely change your inputs, jumping will require many button presses, which can be an issue with some conditions. That can range from it being painful, to (as Matt mentioned above) your fingers not cooperating anymore and bending in ways that they shouldn't (which from what I understood can both be harmful to your fingers and also can make it so you end up just being unable to precisely press buttons), to not seeing any issues in the moment but making an existing condition worse long-term. (Again, I'm probably missing some stuff here. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list.)
That sorta is how all games work though?
Theres only so much a game can change to help, they already have ways to change inputs if you need to change them
If I look at Palia, for example - in the normal gameplay outside of the temples, I can avoid repeated (or long precise) button presses in many spaces (fishing comes to mind as one where I don't see how to avoid that even in groups, bug catching, parts of cooking and hunting are bad too but you can get around those to some extent by playing with others, by using requests and to some extent by having alternative options to get things you need). It'll slow things down, yes, and it's far from ideal. But it's possible, which is not something I can say about mandatory parkouring.
Any tips on fishing epics and legendaries when the more intense fishing makes your wrist pain flare? 🥲
A bit off topic probably, but all of this is especially important to bring up since everywhere I see Palia is being recommended as a super cozy game. Don't get me wrong, it is and I'm absolutely in love, but I find it way too challenging at times
To be fair Cozy doesn't mean it isn't challenging at times. Look at stardew Valley that game is considered to be the ulament cozy game yet the fishing mini game is so challenging for me that I can't do it at all and rely on mods otherwise I would have rage quite the game.
This exactly. Because it's in the "cozy" game sphere, it's going to attract a demographic that seeks for a more relaxed gameplay, maybe with some challenges. But many games in this sphere also offer some accomodation or alternatives.
I think what they're getting at is that the game should offer alternatives for those that can't feasible access or complete certain aspects of a game because it's just not accessible. Like you mentioned, fishing in Stardew Valley is difficult for many, but the game also offers a way to almost bypass the need to fish in game, buffs with the new mastery system that can make it significantly better and at least in some platforms, you can mod it out altogether. Same can't be said with Palia.
Key word, considered. Fishing, Mayor shorts trying to k!ll you, skull cavern. Barely anything about Stardew is cozy at all and ppl who play it are usually aware of it beforehand. Also, in Stardew there's no "main questline" or anything that doesn't let you progress with the story
I'd understand that argument more in games like League of Legends, but a game that is aimed at an audience that seeks for a relaxed gameplay, specially those with disabilities, alternatives are needed. A cozy game can have some challenging parts, that's not mutually exclusive, but it needs to offer alternatives.
But Palia does do that. If you use the Major safe zone lure and have a fishermans brew then almost all the fish are a breeze to catch. You also can get fish from ranching too.
Most of the fish needed for example for Community Centre can be bought too. But for Palia, there are already accessibility settings, so why not add alternatives to quests in there as well? So people can have the challenge if they want, and if they don't they can bypass it in some way and still go on with the story (since there are no other ways so far and no officially supported cheats)
Some things don't have the easier options, like earlier mentioned Temples tho
It's not the same for everyone. And this isn't to mention the other parts of the game people can't complete and are locked out. That's the thing, accessibility isn't the same for everyone, and genuinely but you can't speak for everyone when it's not the case for you. If it's easy/feasible for you, then that's great, but it's really not the case for many people.
It's not unfair to ask for alternatives that are simply evening the playfield for all players.
My point is that we shouldn't compair Palia to other games. There aren't alterative in all games and it shouldn't matter anyway. The game should make required part of the game easier for everyone
True. But consider this
A: even with boosters they have to play the mini game of the actual fishing. In stardew you can entirely mod out the mini game of fishing.
B. Ranching gives you fish but it's RNG dependent, also in game gold dependent so the process just takes a long long long time
Maybe there are better options
Yeah but the fact I have to MOD the game to remove fishing entirely sucks. I shouldn't have to go out of my way to make the game accessable.
And this is what we're saying with Palia...
Which, you can't do because we can't remove the fishing minigame.
I'm a bit confused rn not gonna lie
Honestly same, I don't get what the point is anymore.
In Stardew it doesn't always work either, cuz for example on iOS or switch no mods are supported
The crazy thing is I'm mostly agreeing with you guys the point I was trying to make is that we shouldn't compare Palia to other games
Yep, exactly. I don't even know why it was said not to compare Palia to other games when Stardew fishing was brought up so, I'm confused.
Not meaning to be rude, but I think you first brought up other games? (Like Stardew Valley, I only said that Palia was being recommended as cozy, which comes with specific expectations)
Sure. But then if you have the creator of the game (stardew) make the game easy to mod deliberately: why won't you mod?
And this is after the creator already included multiple quick ways to achieve the same results.
Not saying stardew is perfect, but it's a game where the creator worked to include avenues to make the game accessible to any and everyone either directly or indirectly since it gets the cozy game tag
Oh I was bringing it up because someone said other games have work arounds for difficult things and I was saying that isn't the case with a lot of cozy games.
But you brought up Stardew Valley fishing? Honestly, but it doesn't really feel like you're agreeing given some of the points are being very contradictory and the tone feels really argumentative. I mean this genuinely, but it isn't the first time.
Also This is me agaisnt a lot of people so Sometimes my messages are getting lost. This isn't anyones fault I'm just trying to keep track of a lot right now so I do sound disjointed. Sorry
Umm sorry I replied and wanted to join the conversation then. I will leave
No no its fine I'm just saying I'm not making a good argument cause my brain go Buur
Since we're already on the topic I only wanted to add that SDV is a pretty old game (bc tbh 10 is old) and is made and developed by a single person. Yes, it's a paid game, but I think it's fair to have a bit different expectations for a game made singlehandedly vs by a whole team
Definitely so. I think the main point of a game needing alternatives for players was lost, sadly.
But also fishing absolutely sucks in MANY games 😭 Palia is like the second one that makes it somewhat bearable (I quit the other bc it was using AI for nearly everything so yeah, that says a lot lol)
I agree I think that Its insane how Palia is one of the only Cozy games where I like fishing
A game can be cozy and have challenging elements, but it needs to offer avenues for making it accessible for everyone. Like opting out of the fishing minigame or adding passive fishing.
Very off topic but I think it's funny. Me: complaining about fishing in cozy games. Also me: wanting to play CoD (only for the lore but still 😂)
Palia fishing made me appreciate Stardew fishing, and that's saying A LOT. Fishing in Infinity Nikki also kinda sucks a bit, since it requires mouse and keyboard
That's fair! I loathe fishing in most games, but I play League (which is the opposite of cozy
)
Palia fishing is way easier for me but that's also because isn't doesn't trigger static seizures like other games do.
When I was younger (how that sounds 😭😂) I used to come over to friend's a watch her play Dead by Daylight, Outlast and other horror-like games and dang, I could never (loved it, but soo hard)
I don’t normally talk on here but honestly I fish for a living knowing some players are locked out of it. I want to be able to send starred fish etc again to help players. Because it frustrates me that people go on about how fishing is easy etc. you don’t know the persons limitations. I cannot see really well I tend to miss a lot of bugs etc. hence my friends help me with bugs.
Requesting would help a lot of players tbh
I mean there is also the bad RNG that can happen too. I keep getting Maws plush instead of Maws even though they should have similar drop rates LOL
Rng still has nothing to do with how I cannot see the bug moving on the ground. Please understand what I’m trying to say
I was just saying that it would also help with bad RNG not that you are wrong.
I wish fishing would be like the bug catching, where if you're in a party you both/all get the fish!
If you catch one bug that is normal quality being able to ask for the starquality would make life so much easier
Same with hunting. Its crazy that all other types of gathering you can get the rewards but not fishing
Mmm when it comes to rng it could be done with a pity system kinda like Nikki (just an example) after certain amount you should get it. Not spend days of your life irl fishing 9 days straight for the chance of a maws.
Yes! The fact that I still need an infected maws to get all the achivments and i can't get it is driving me crazy and I LOVE fishing
I’ve been playing this game from day 1 open beta. I have experienced a lot of things and accessibility isn’t one of them. I’m sorry s6 but there needs to be some type of accessibility for it to be considered a cozy game for everyone. It really feels like there a big shift where people who can play vs the people who need better accessibility options. I’m not even talking about switch users either. It’s clear to me how the company wants to push themselves forward and let’s hope it doesn’t come around to bite them in the booty.
The problem is that There are SO many different players with SO many different needs that accommodating all of them will take time. There already is a decent amount of accessibility such as the fact You don't need to complete all the bundles to progress the story. Once you unlock ranching you don't have to fish. There aren't time limits on quest. This means that the parts that aren't accessible stand out way more as a result. S6 Really needs to focus on going back into the older parts of the game and making work arounds for them.
Ranching is just a gold sink to pull in players with max gold to keep them busy while we get more story. Same with essence after the frog exploit. I don’t do ranching because it’s a waste tbh I’ll just buy the faster horse and be done with it. I understand the need to go back into a game and helping out players earlier in the story. Those temples are no joke and the completing bundles thing was a bug if i remember. I was forced to collect everything. however EVERY mmo has a basic set of accessibility options for everyone starting from the get go. There’s lots of qol they could do. Push an alert to everyone when it’s time for patch day for users not connected to social media. Trading could be done a little bit better with how we can trade stickers, and plushies and artifacts and add trading for each one of the skills. Let me make a cake and surprise my friend with it. Lots of things I’m not saying make it an accessibility option for every single person out there just that im saying make better broad accessibility options.
I agree I just think its unfair to imply there are NO accessibility options even if we are exaggerating. It's just that it's rather odd that there are some but they aren't used in areas that are unskippable.
I think it's more unfair on players who are locked out of MSQ/areas of the game because there aren't enough accessibility options and that it's only fair to ask of the game/company to work towards implementing more.
But that's just my opinion. We still don't have even UI sliders to help with text size, or proper photosensitivity warnings/VFX toggles.
Accessibility features absolutely do take a lot of care, time and effort to implement. However, it's been pushed to the back burner for years and is nothing but an afterthought now. I would be willing to wait however long it takes for adequate and thorough accessibility features to be added. I'd be willing to be patient. The reason I am starting to lose my patience is because there hasn't been a word about major accessibility updates from S6 in almost a year. Zero communication about a topic (aside from some very minor tweaks that have been made here and there and mentioned in the patch notes) makes it feel as though an accessibility update is being entirely neglected. As a disabled person, I'm used to being an afterthought in most aspects of life and society, but feeling that in the context of Palia really doesn't feel cozy to me.
I've said it countless times, but continuing to not design with accessibility in mind (which is what they're doing) just makes it harder to add accessibility which then becomes the excuse for not adding it because "well it will take too long"
then because those accessibility options don't exist, disabled players will stop playing and the excuse will then become "well only a small amount of players need those features, so it doesn't make sense to waste time adding them since it takes so much work" it's just a continuous cycle of inaccessibility /gen
Just bringing this back up, don't mind me
Edit, also this one someone shared a while back: #♿│accessibility-discussions message
pushed to the back burner for years
Singlularity 6 was founded in February 2018, players first got their hands on the game in July 2021 for pre-alpha (though under NDA so we can't know what accessibility related feedback they had then), and Public/open beta started August 2023 - just in case anyone thinks "years" is an exaggeration, it's really not
I'll just say there were plenty of us giving feedback on accessibility across lots of aspects of the game during the alpha days. They have had ample opportunity to listen to the importance of designing with accessibility in mind but the decision makers didn't seem to make it a priority.
can we be able to change the color of campfire icons on the map? white is very hard to see with bad eyesight
are there any colourblind / otherwise blindness options? I have a hard time seeing specific resources and i was wondering if there was a filter or something i can turn on to make them stand out a bit more? I usually have to hit an ore to hear the sound to really tell the difference between them, especially when its nighttime in game
settings > graphics > calibrate screen
You might need to play around with them a bit to see what suits you best
Ill try!! thank you!
I find it easiest on tritanope mode with the default gamma at .6 and max colour mode gamma. I can tell the difference between whitestone and other ores better now at least ^^' and it makes them stand out a little better. if anyone else (even not colourblind) wants to try it, id recommend it
If you happen to have an nvidia graphics card, you can also use the built-in colorblind filters to make it contrast even more. Those have a much wider range of color options
I also do this to see better. I have an eye condition that makes it hard to see in the dark. The game gets way too dark for me. I use a similar setting and I can see evening clear as day when hunting etc. Im thankful for this setting option.
I agree. I know that there are people who would really like these options. I'm sure the list of requested features or issues is massive. And just like all of the games they have to weigh out the demand and delegate work accordingly. Unfortunately if the group requesting more accommodations is 10% of the player base it will often not be on the top of the list. In general they have to focus on fixing any issues that might pop up and mostly bringing more new content. That's the only way that studios can continue the game. I think they've done a great job of not making the players who purchased from the store seem to have any difference from the free players. I do purchase from the store and I don't mind it keeps the game going. I understand the reality that nothing is for free. They have overhead costs and many more costs. This is in my opinion. And to be fair up front, I have no idea how gaming studios work. I just understand the basic reality of it. If they have 10 million players and 500,000 are requesting a feature compared to 8 million players who are requesting something else. (These are made up examples 😎) I mean the answer is really simple as to what will be priority. My only suggestion would be to keep suggesting it and bringing it up and trying to get more people to request it.
See the graphic right above my message and messages above that poitning out thatbthe longer they wait the more expensive it is to make the changes as a partial rebuttal plus the curb cut effect (for example people who aren't disabled can play when sound isn't available, captions help with localization and clarity for everyone) - it all means that the total potential player base increases and all players have a chance for longer and/or more frequent play sessions which all helps retention and conversions.
For some of the requests it's worth noting that The game has sent people to the hospital (migraines and seizures) more than once, it shouldn't have gotten to that point in the first place and we shouldn't have to wait for it to be reported again or worse for movement on these.
Also they told us accessibility changes were in progress more than once and they announced the accessibility audit in June 2025 with zero mentions afterwards - the frustration is multifaceted
Resharing this as someone had previously shared it in this chat. Accessibility changes are helpful for all, not just a small portion of the player base.
Thats a great simple summary and for anyone not already familiar here's some basic info on the curb cut effect (didn't pull that out of nowhere) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curb_cut_effect
I will never forget the vfx toggle that was literally in an updates patch notes and after it didn't come in the patch they erased it from the patch notes and said that is never actually existed in the first place - after people were begging for it for years /gen
This exactly. It's tiring to get the sort of "they have other things to prioritise". How about prioritising their player's well being and health? That's the issue that comes up when accessibility isn't build in from the start, it goes on the back burner and becomes potentially harder to implement as more content is delivered.
And it took us quite a while to make sure the s6 dev understood we were not asking for a new feature but an update on why the feature was just removed from the notes without any notice.
Not to forget the snowball vfx issue that had been ongoing for a year and had received multiple feedback on and only got addressed (and a warning) after constantly asking for one in here.
And if they had implemented more accessibility features from the get go (like a UI slider or the VFX toggle), then they wouldn't need to "focus on fixing issues". Not like there's not been bugs that have been present for a long time anyways.
The highly requested UI size option is similar to the FOV option that we already have. Since palia comes in multiple consoles and screen (small and big) both options are helpful
On one hand, I do understand the reasoning behind people thinking and even saying "priorities" and things like that, but to be completely blunt and honest, accessibility shouldn't be put on the back burner just because it isn't "requested" as highly as others.
Accessibility and accommodations should always be a priority. Yes, there are some that are definitely higher on the list or "easier" to implement than others, but accessibility should always be in mind. Which is something that myself, and others here, have been trying to express and advocate for.
It's great if they add more content, sure. But there's a part of the playerbase that can't even access it because of these accessibility concerns. There are still people (like myself) who are locked behind Gales. There are people who just can't play for long periods of time because of the photosensitivity issues. There are people that can't play because of the lack of accessibility with some of the skills. It goes on.
And like Celosia said, the graphic above explains more of this, too. There's just a lot that can-- and should-- be worked on. Things that should of been implemented from the start. (like a VFX toggle, which has been talked about at length. There has been so many problems because none exists.)
That's terrible. Personally if I had been sent to the hospital or had a major medical issue because of a game I definitely wouldn't be back to playing it. Even if they posted that they have made accommodations. I probably wouldn't trust it and it wouldn't be worth the risks to myself. What a shame and hopefully they are better.
Sadly that's been the case for many players, not focusing on accessibility in the long term is only going to do more harm than good (both to the game and more importantly, the players).
Many players also had to stop playing simply because they're locked out of the main story quest due to the lack of accessibility in some temples (mainly Gales).
I mean, that's one of the reasons why some folks don't play as much. Because of the health risks that this game has.
And I mean, again, it shouldn't even of gotten to that point, where multiple people have gone to the hospital or get any other medical/health issues. That's sort of the problem. And people shouldn't have to worry about anything like that while playing a game-- a game that is mentioned to be "Cosy" and "inclusive", etc.
And of course, like... a game can't help accomodate everything. Things happen, and things like that. (Saying this, because there are some games that give me headaches and migraines, but there isnt much to be done there.) ... But, when it's things like VFX that can be toggled (particle effects, outfit effects, fireworks, etc), or... like, really bright flashing lights...
Should have a toggle to turn those off, reduce it, etc... at the very least, have a photosensitivity warning when opening the game each time. (I know it does for the switch, but that is the switch providing it, not the game itself. Not sure if other consoles do, I just know about the switch, but i'd assume it's the same there.)
Does anyone have a "community" or even a thread going where people with different stregnths can help each other and ask for help? I play with my dad who has tremors and I have neurological disabilities that sometimes make play hard, we can help each other a lot because we have different strengths (but i can't catch the damn fish for him!! lol).
No one should have to be sent to the hospital from trying to play a game for fun
It's really upsetting that it's happened and probably will do again if there's no proper VFX toggle.
Sadly we can't advertise or direct to specific communities (you might be able to find one in #1481366373782257837 that could have tips on that) but I know many folks in the past here have also shared tips. I'm sorry I can't direct more but I'm sure someone with more knowledge would be able to share.
The VFX toggle upsets me the most, considering how long it's been requested, and with how many issues that have popped up because there isn't one... :(
That's ok, makes sense about not being able to advertise them. I've gotten a bunch of tips here just from reading, so that's been great. I wonder if mods would be open to a thread to find and give specific help?
I'm also happy to just be here and jump up and down if I need something or can help 😛
sure those injured players may not play anymore, but there's always a next person who doesn't know palia - or video games in general can cause that serious of an injury? or just anyone with relatively minor photo-sensitivity and motion sickness? anyone can be vulnerable to this harm - they can be acquired or even just one offs - it's not just people with diagnoses. Don't disabled players deserve to make an informed choice? and to be able to play video games? We're also asking for a better/more persistent photo-sensitivity warning since there are SO many flashes and it only pops up once during install. There are reasons that accessibility settings are slowly becoming norms one by one (color blindness settings, arachnophobia toggles, captions, reduced whole screen flashes) and why there's standards out there.
Speaking of colour blindness settings-- I wish that was in a better location on Palia, instead of Calibrate Screen. :\
Honestly, with the amount of VFX that there is in Royal Highlands (i.e the amber breaking effect), it almost feels as if it's going completely unheard or taken into account when designing. Obviously I can't speak on their behalf, but considering the amount of feedback and screenshots/videos they've received on these issues in here by players, it's very disheartening it's only further continues in RH.
That would be a great idea honestly! Maybe it can be suggested in modmail? Just in case a mod gets to read the suggestion
What's modmail? I'm happy to sent a message/note/email
!modmail
Hey there!
This looks like something you can reach out to the mods for help! You can contact them via ModMail, a bot that will set up a private conversation with the team.
To use ModMail, DM @haughty walrus (that can also be found at the top of our member list).
- If you are in multiple servers utilizing ModMail, please make sure to select the Palia server when prompted.
- If you have an open DM with ModMail for another server already, send a message as normal and you will be asked to confirm the server you're trying to reach. Select 🔁 to change the server to Palia.
Thanks!
I'll send something now!
With the topic of VFX toggle being brought up, I am also surprised how big the sparkle + particle effect is when amber nodes in the new map get broken. I play on high and I have to revert my eyes every time at the last moment when it breaks.
I wish the steam store page of the game came with not only the beta tag (which is still missing) but also a photosensitivity tag that steams gives the options for
Orii sent it, I do hope the mods consider it!
I haven't done too much in Royal Highlands, but it doesn't surprise me to hear that there's even more visuals and effects in that zone. Esp after seeing some visuals that appeared in the trailer for it before it released. That's a shame... I can only just keep saying that I really hope they provide some sort of VFX toggle eventually.
The biggest inaccessibility issue for me personally is the fishing mini game and moving back and forth to maintain the fish. I lose fish EVERY SINGLE TIME and it's so frustrating
Paired with the motion sickness some players reportedly get from the horse camera as well, it's just really not great
Sadly Royal Highlands and Elderwoods seem to be the maps with the most issues in this regard, and it's upsetting.
Which is sad because parts of these two maps are really beautifully designed and I wish more players could safely enjoy it
There's honestly so many accessibility issues, and it's quite upsetting. I agree that the fishing mini-game is not great. That has gotten worse for me over time with my hands and movement, so that is also something that I find frustrating and struggle to do, too. :(
I really get it that they need to release new content to keep players entertained but there are so many bugs already, AND the accessibility issues. It'd be really great for everyone if they focused a bit more on what's already existing and the quality of it instead of just adding new stuff (especially since some players, like myself, can't even progress with the main story bc of those issues)
yeah - this section (ssorry this ISN'TPalia's) needs a warning counterpart because not only do people need to know about flashes and particle effects but devs are going to make choices knowing that making it key to the game in someway makes it inaccessible to a chunk of people
"playable without quick time events" [the fishing mini game is typing a rant]...
I'm just really upset bc I've seen everyone online recommending Palia as a cozy game and it doesn't feel much like it tbh
sorry brain was faster than hands and i made a mistake, it's not palia
I've got Cerebral Palsy and thats my issue with it too. It's incredibly painful on my wrist/hand
Honestly though, they could do a mostly focused accessibility/bug fixing patch during one of the filler patches (that often aren't a lot of content anyways). I really dislike the thought that accessibility should be on a back burner because not enough people "request it", because it should be on the forefront.
And not only that but, it benefits everyone at large as well. Specially those who depend on them.
Sidenote question in general: the subtitle option for visual, I don't think it pertains to subtitles during cutscenes? For the RH intro cut scene there was dialogue but due to the loud background music I could barely understand it
Edit: I think celosia said it's not palia. Alright take my question back lol
Me too!!
The cooking has some quick time events, too, imo lol... but i guess, with that one, you can have a friend/someone help you with that, i guess, and do that step haha
palia doesn't even have that section
Same!! I didn't hear a word that was said because of my audio issues and the lack of subtitles
i haaate cooking and make my friends do all of it. i grind the ingredients! lol
Oh, just saw your edit, it wasn't Palia's section
that makes more sense
There's some that i can do, but there's some that is just too difficult for me. Some of the chopping definitely goes in that category!
And this is also why they should focus on them, because it's so highly marketed and recommended as such, it's going to drive in an audience that looks for a more relaxed gameplay.
Not to say there's not people who can enjoy both non cozy and cozy games, cause the cozy tag can be pretty subjective. But Palia has always highlighted about "welcoming all" and being inclusive, so it does feel like it lacks a lot in regards to accessibility.
There have been small improvements here and there - if I am not wrong the tool wheel and text size changes but I can't be 100% sure
I mean yeah but at the same time we still don't have a UI slider that would be more customizable for individual players needs. Much of the text is still too small.
Mentioning it before someone else mentions it and tries to compare - stardew valley. It has one dev, made several accessibility changes but then saw the community come up with 100s more as mods so made the game easier to mod.
I also still desperately would like a minimap of some kind. I get turned around very easily and I struggle. I know i could just "open the map", but then it gets tedious, and even then, I struggle and get turned around.
I struggle with direction a bunch. It's also why the compass is not the easiest for me, too. North/East/South/West... I forget which direction I'm going, or even which way is which. (even if I do the reminder on which way is which, I still somehow get turned around. Dont let me steer the ship on Sea of Thieves
)
But having a minimap would help so much with seeing the surroundings nearby, and a way to easily navigate in one direction. Esp if I could have it "set" to which way is North and South, without it spinning.
I've seen someone mention it before but there could be some improvements to colours as well, especially at night. I can't find anything about it in settings and some bugs are really hard to spot. I mostly notice them when I'm too close and they make that startled noise 😅
(Not pinging, but wanted to reply to this since you made me think of this)
Imagine if we could have an outline on bugs/critters etc, that can help stand out?? And being able to change the 'colour' of the outline. It can be so easy to miss and not see some bugs especially, and it'd probably help so much!!
CA is really the GOAT. I know it's hard to compare a game like Stardew to an "MMO" like Palia, but we can compare the approaches the both have taken to accomodate and include accessibility in their games.
Especially if it persisted a little when said bugs went into the foliage/grass
I think yesterday someone already was comparing those two 😭 SDV still does better lol and the fact that all of those mods (lots of which are accessibility ones) are officially supported is a big thing too. I'm on their server and there are even channels especially for modded support etc
Iirc, OSRS has plugins in some of the clients that do this sort of thing exactly, having a border around certain nodes/objects for better visibility. That'd be great to see in Palia as well.
Yes! Just like some forageables sometimes light up/have that weird white highlight? Something like that but much more visible. Since the whole point of the game is collecting resources and stuff
We definitely can't compare the two in terms of scale perhaps, but it does go to show that if a single developer could achieve this, then we should uphold a game with a corporation (with more resources) behind them to the same standards.
An example of how fishing accessibility could be part of the game itself. Palworld fishing is similar to stardew fishing. However you can also build a fishing station and set a pal to fish automatically. There is also the option to trade/pick up pals dropped by others players if you needed a specific pal that could only be fished by the player.
Just adding to what you said about the mini map, it'd be really cool if we could add more than one pointer to the map as well (and maybe have a way to check which to pin to the compass and which not?) Sometimes I forget where I was supposed to go or what I was doing, and when I had a few quests open or was doing treasure chests tour it would've been really helpful
Stardew wasn't built in a day for sure, and neither was Palia. But there's a reason why Stardew is so well regarded among the cosy game genre. It has challenges yes, but also ways to circumvent it, and CA has put a lot of care into his playerbase and it shows.
I was watching the live on 10th anniversary and the change between SDV then and now is HUGE 😮 And even if Palia is so adamant on not supporting any mods or other player-made stuff, there still should be ways to walk around the issue, ESPECIALLY if it makes you unable to go on with the story (I'm still stuck at Roots temple 😭)
I always think it was a missed opportunity to not make the have a co-op alrernative. That would've really enhanced the community aspect of the game and let us help players.
Honestly the lack of community feel for what was (marketed) an MMO is kind of wild. I feel like there have been so many chances and some of it, especially trading, would at least alleviate accessibility issues a bit until they decide to actually address accessibility at its foundation
I wish fishing in parties would work the same as bug hunting in parties. If you hunt bugs in a party, everyone gets the bugs.
If that would work the same for fishing we could just build community support systems to get everyone the things they need!
I don't struggle with fishing, I'd absolutely be down to do it for/with other disabled people who struggle with it!
@raven ingot @warm grove Thank you for suggesting I write to Modmail, they came up with a cool solution -- "We have updated the Parties Channel Post Template... to include a space for party hosts to list any accessibility accommodations they are able to provide for the party. Additionally, we have added an "Accessible" tag which party hosts can apply to their posts. This will allow users to easily filter their search to find parties which offer accommodations."
I'll start trying to post there and open up my plot for low sensory/accessible party meet ups for questing etc, maybe it will help us to find ways to meet up with each other and help with the things we can share items with (bugs, cooking, hunting, farming ores/wood)
I'm glad to hear that! And your idea was wonderful too so thank you for bringing it up, I'm sure it'll be helpful for many people
That's awesome!
Is there anything we can do to support you?
Thank you for asking! I need a bit of time to process what I'd like to offer or do, but I think just being able to bounce ideas around here and get feedback would be great!
Helping to smooth out how to run the parties is where I'm stuck at the moment, but I'll sleep on it and that will help!
I’m not being able to post what I’m thinking about for accessible farming gatherings, but I’m going to make a post over where it belongs and I’ll try to share it here and get feedback!
Is weekly a good timing for that kind of thing? I got overwhelmed looking at the party channel
Hey! You can post it, just take out the curse word that the auto-censor is flagging
I think what I could offer is a weekly party for going out together and farming what people need. We could do a bit of everything based on what people are working on. Fishing is the only thing we can’t share in the party, so we could at least help people with dailies, bundles, crafting, cooking etc?
The accessible part would be communicating with each other about our needs and strengths (I can’t follow cooking but can find bugs and hunt well) so if there’s something people have trouble getting we are there to help them with it!
Is that something people would be interested in? What am I not thinking of?
I guess I hope it will make the gathering and collecting more fun and communal, since the quest instances are solo, we can’t help with that yet, right?
There was!! I didn’t even realize I wrote one!
Mod to the rescue! thank you ❤️
Of course! We're excited to see what all you guys come up with! There's a lot of peeps who pop in every now and then looking for parties that are more friendly to accessibility needs, so it'll be great to point them to parties using the new tag! Thank you for suggesting this!
I would love to participate! I just told my girlfriend about it and she's interested too 🩷
Well then that makes it worth it! Woo!
I think a weekly event would be especially helpful for people who can't access a particular skill, say bug hunting, at all. It would be a good opportunity to level up the skill and get a good amount of resources to stash away until you need them.
I'm not sure if a weekly event would meet the needs of people who are locked out of (main) quest progression because a skill is inaccessible to them.
Maybe the weekly event could provide a space for people to meet and arrange more specific 1-1 sessions to focus on helping someone's quest progression?
Totally agree. Energy wise I think I can do weekly and it helps me to have something at the same time every week. I was thinking about all the things it could help with: dailies, bundles, friendship quests, decor searches, making money for buying in the shops, plus just community and belonging in a game space.
I think you're right about making space for people to arrange their on 1-1 sessions, we'll start to learn who can help with what and go from there!
It's gonna take me some time to get a post up in the parties channel, but I'm hoping to post by Sunday and then have the first party next week! Since you and your girlfriend are interested now, are there days/times that are better for you?
I wish we could ride on a horse with 2 people 👀 horses irl are strong enough, and this way if I don't manage the controls, I can hop on my sister's horse and spam E so I can at least forage
Aside from the fact that it's just fun to ride together, helps with mobility too
That would be awesome 🙂
If anyone is interested, I'm going to try having an accessible farming party in 2 hours. https://discordapp.com/channels/809856101326913567/1507471926803693568 I'll ask over there if there's anything anyone wants to work on together!
Good luck! If I wasn't going out, I'd have loved to help
Thanks!! I'm happy if just one person comes and I'm happy if it doesn't take off quiet yet! I'll still be around 🙂
i haven't gotten any jackcat plushies cause they're too hard to hunt. but other people have told me they aren't tradeable. is this true, and if so is it a bug they plan to fix?
It's a bug, yes, S6 is aware and working on a fix but as far as I'm aware they didn't announce when it'd be fixed yet.
okay she said she'd save them. in the meantime, i can try to hunt them but it's exhausting since i have to wait for them to stop running before i can get another shot in. does one of the relics help with plushy drops?
I think there's a ring that increases the chance of rare drops - would that include plushies?
I can't remember which relic it is 🙁
^ that's the one i was thinking of. halward's mayve? idk about plusies
Uncertain but it seems it doesn't? Hope Lacie can ask devs for confirmation though, it does seem the ring is bugged for some players regardless.
Is there a way to adjust the volume of animals hitting you in the Highlands? It's actually quite jump scary running around and then being attacked from behind
You can't really prevent surprise attacks from behind, but to prevent it from happening while actively hunting them you can use dispel arrows
Is there a color blind filter at all? I have tritanomaly color blindness. So I usually use the tritanopia filter in other games that provide one.
Yes there is! Its in the calibrate screen settings
Ahh thank you so much!! 😄
Volume sliders aren't that specific, but there are a few you could play with to make it quieter
Is there options for turning off repetitive noises? For misophonia
not specifically, but you can adjust different parts of the sound separately. most annoying sounds are probably under sound effects, which i have set to less than .5.
first one that comes to mind is the trees yelling in the highlands (and other environmental noises), which are included under sound effects.
Hi, my first time posting! Someone that I love, and they also Love Palia, really struggle with reading dialogue, (visual dyslexia) and therefore isn't really up to speed on the story and questing is difficult when it needs to be done on their own 🥺
Is there an accessibility feature to help with this if not, how would I go about making an accessibility suggestion?
!feedback I'm unfortunately not aware of any direct feature to help with dyslexia, though someone here might have ideas for workarounds. If you want to let S6 know about the issues, I'd recommend sending them feedback through the links below.
Good luck to your friend!

Almost all the quests have wiki pages or write ups, I wonder if using a text to voice tool on those pages, out of game, might help? Theres nothing in game to change font or size that I’ve seen 🙁
