For anyone who needs practice drawing horses: there's a website called line of action. Its formatted very similarly to how a live drawing class is. It has categories of images. It lets you set how much time you want to sketch and the amount of time you want each photo to stay on screen. You can choose animals then deselect every category except 'equine and other hooved'

I'm nowhere a pro at this so take my answer with a grain of salt, but dpi are dots per inch, which pretty much the resolution of your art piece. I don't know what software you are using to draw (if it's digital) but they often offer you to choose when you start a blank canvas

Hello, I'm so sorry, I come with a question that may sound stupid, but i'm not familiar with inches so I'd rather seem silly for a second but be sure on how to proceed 😅
The rules say that " Art must be 16x9 inches, at 300 DPI " which gives 4800 x 2700 pixels
However the rules also say that we need to use the templates, and those are given in 1920 x 1080 pixels.
I know the ratio stays the same, which is probably the most important, but what rule do we need to follow in priority ? The size that is asked (16x9 inches) or the use of the templates (either in png or psd file even if those aren't 16*9 inches) ?

I think the priority is DPI and 16x9 inches! The frame is actually optional on whether or not you wanna use it! So just make sure you’re at 300 DPI and your canvas is at 16x9 and you’re all set!

Hello, I want to do a traditional piece but I'm having trouble finding info about the size it has to be. Does the actual piece have to be 16in by 9in? Or can it be a smaller size but the same scale ratio?
I don't have paper that big and won't be able to scan it since my scanner is a normal size 😬

I'm coming at this from a technical standpoint, not from that of a rules expert, but if you scan a 16in x 9in paper at 300 DPI, you should get the same size/format as when scanning an 8in x 4.5in paper at 600 DPI and so on. You'd have to keep in mind that in the end result, everything would double in size, so you'd have to draw proportionally smaller or live with a bigger image.

With most art programms you can determine dpi (dots per inch) when opening a new project. Its usually where you type in the size of your artboard. 300 dpi is quite the high resolution, usually used for printing to determine a good outcome 🙂 Dots per inch just means, how many dots your artwork is made of. When you zoom in for example you see many tiny pixels, eaxh one has only one colour and makes up the whole artwork in the end. Meaning, the more dots, more details/higher resolution.

I have a question for the MCE art contest, for all my fellow digital based artists, if scaled up, what size is your canvas?
Some wonderful peeps in general clarified that the base pixel size for the template is 1920 x 1080, but that's too small for me when it comes to detailing. However, I'm having a lot of trouble with it when I try to scale it up in size, as the ratio just kinda seems to die. Like it just becomes more square.
