Yes pls. Would be nice to know
Did figure out how to make it extremely simple. Now just need to find large flat area for screenshots.
I either did smt really really really stupid or i am secretly a genius. I deleted the whole well and started anew. Now i have a symetrical tower and i widened it a little at the top part. Now the tower is bigger above the ground but start inside the ground alr bigger than all the way down those 40m
I have all the screenies on how to do the alternation perfectly every time. Now just for how the stairs work...
grrrrrr
Sounds good
The stairs being out 1.5m instead of just 1 or 2 makes this annoying to try and replicate freehand.
Replacing is easy because you already have snap points.
If anyone knows how to make a 1.5m horizontal offset without eyeballing it plz ping me.
THats why i build it from scratch. I wanna build it wihout mistakes.
I have the walls perfect and replicatable.
Just need to figure the stairs out.
If I can do it at 1m I will, just need to make sure it is consistent as you go up the spiral.
Is the wood stair model the exact same width or is it like a couple pixels smaller?
Use doors to get additional snap points
Oh that would be such a pain in the ass for this... but I will give it a shot.
FIGURED IT OUT
@pearl escarp doors were the key, but I found how to do all the pain in 1 step thankfully.
Now that I know how to make it perfectly, I deleted my entire sunken thing in the mountain and am rebuilding it from scratch 😄
I might use the tower design now that I have it and make one where each floor is dedicated to a biome. Showing off all the armor and weapons.
🤔
Actually that’s a good idea. I’ve been trying to do that too in my main base but didn’t have enough space
So if you do the tower by the design, each floor is 5m tall and you've got a roughly 6.5m diameter space to work with considering what the stairs cut into.
@leaden beacon that is the amount of space per floor considering what the stairs cut out.
So it's up to what you want.
Can definitely fit a good bedroom, and can do each workbench with upgrades on its own floor as well.
It means "To Be Determined" 😭
Meaning the idea is 1 floor dedicated to each biome.
If I can find a good way to fit the weapons on the wall and have the armor stands in the middle, it is not too small.
So I won't know how the space works for the idea until I start slapping things into it.
BUT that is on pause because I think the ash walls would look better, so I have to go make landfall in the Ashlands and start farming that stuff.
Hm. Maybe. I’m not yet in the ashlands. What do those walls look like?
Darker wood that goes with the marble better, and they are a more clean texture.
Aaaah. The dark brown one. I think I remember it from a tutorial. That would definetly look quite good
But is the Ashwood good? Or is that one of those woods you have to repair every 10 min because it starts to break?
It will be indoors, so how would it break?
Idk. Wood keeps breaking around me no matter if it’s inside. Or maybe that’s just my brother hitting it for some reason with his stuff
But I keep repairing wood inside the house
running about with carts inside in multiplayer might be the issue if thats something you do.
thats what i figured out was happening when i played with some friends.
didnt stop tho. having a cart or two just sitting around in the crafting/storage area is really handy
We do have a cart but we don’t use it. And definetly not in our storage room underground. Yet the floor breaks there
How do you hide a workbench in stone walls?
I used to hide them inside 2x4 area.
Inside 2 big stone wall pieces.
2x4? Like 2 of the 2x2x2 black marble block?
2 of the big black marble blocks, yeah.
KK. Thx
#building-screenshots message
If you want it to function as a roof for shelter purposes, you can add a regular roof piece underneath the beams. That way you still have the top aesthetic
@leaden beacon so my tower... max height without any tree assists is 60m, which gets me 6 floors.
So I can do 1 floor per biome up to Mistlands.
But if I want to have Ashlands/DN I will need to see how much taller it can go with wood.
Or I just cap it and make a second tower for the 3 "with magic" biomes 🤔
Nice. If you use the bottom of the well like i do you would get 40m just like that alr. WIth support another 40m should definetly be possible
Oh this is all the way to the bottom.
It is now? Didnt you say you wont do that?
Oh I dug, but I think the problem is the side dirt doesn't touch it anymore.
Well just add a horizontal pole then.
@zenith anvil that is so intense!! Amazing job 👏 I am tempted to find one for myself now. Inspooo
Don't need to find, you can build you own 😉
Doesn't the terrain generate lower in the pit structures than what is naturally possible though?
Yes, so in theory you could go higher than what I have.
60m is free-standing though.
Oh wow 60m is all above ground? Insane 🤘
Ye, it is inset, but in digging it out I made it not touch the ground on the sides anymore 😭
You could make a super tall one by riding up the side of a Plains pillar tbh.
Oh that's true as well, I would just be nervous about chaos, like some stray lox chasing a mob next to my pillar and crumbling it.
Sry for just dropping in. Just wanted to add that by digging the well out you can add another 40m to your tower. I think that’s always the case. And to stabilize it just place some horizontal beams outside of it underground and your whole tower will be touching the ground. Well atleast the part underground.
That's so cool! Do you happen to know if those pit structures have different sizes that generate? I found one that seems rather small.
They don’t change. They are all the same I think. I’m pretty sure.
But mind sending a image of the one you found? We could compare it to other pits and find out
I'll head over to it now and send a pic shortly.
@violet skiff it's 12m short of what I needed for my project, but I will adapt 😁
I am considering a swamp build. 😬
You could build a black marble treehouse to get extra height lol
I hate treehouses 😭 So that won't be something I, personally, do.
Nothing wrong with them though for the people who do enjoy them.
Gonna build around the Bonemass altar and make it into a Galdr lair so I can be all "WHO'S THE BOG WITCH NOW HUH?" 😄
I mistook that profile picture for something entirely different at first
@grim ravine pulling here for "discussion" -- iirc 4 wide is max? And even then sometimes you have to build really fast to get the middle in before they update and break so they can support each other.
oop
yeah
Black Marble my beloved.
the stone supports are required lololol
but I've since moved to the waterside for logistical convenience
I did that until they added stone portal.
Now I enjoy Mountain bases that are nigh-unraidable due to how sharp the elevation is 😄
Though am very much considering a swamp build currently.
i was pretty sure you could just hide the ironwood inside the stone...?
no snapping point yeah but its not the most precise thing in the world
You can do that too. Usually if I am having a basement I don't mind seeing it run across the ceiling as it helps with the whole basement vibe.
I am rly happy about the update with "no building costs". Now i can set up my camp and progress through the game easier. Way more comfortible for players which play 1-2 times per week. ❤️
Thank you Valheim devs for that!
@lavish wedge when I need stone I just mine copper or silver.
Dual purpose and more efficient spending of time 😁
@rose horizon a good workaround for future pictures is you can put them in #mods-screenshots and then just bring the discussion half of it here. 💛
Aye aye
I have absolutely no clue how I want to build my base and I can't think of anything creative... Only thing that comes to mind is a wooden box. I used to be really good at building but sometimes i just get into a creative drought. Anyone else feel similar?
Every single time I start a new build
So I suggest for you: TWO wooden boxes! Stick them together in an L-shape or T-shape and tack on various other jutty-outy parts, then make an interesting roof, and tada!
not a bad idea. glad to know im not the only one here who struggles with building sometimes. Thank you :)
Yeah, only practice will make you better. There might also be some tutorials for different building styles in YT, or you can look up for buildings of people here in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202310893757530142 👍
Or come up with your own style, everything is possible.
alright thanks
Also, don't be afraid to try things, builds give full resource refund, if it's good you can keep, if it doesn't work for you then right-clicks always an option. 🙂
I've just unlocked iron in my world so I'm pretty new, and that goes for my building haha. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me fix this tavern I'm working on. I think I miscounted by one block, but can't figure out where because everything lines up except the second story. It's a three to four story tavern I'm building from YouTube on hammer mode
A good idea is to never make things totally one shape
Shapes on shapes does a lot even for "bland" ideas find something you think looks cool base it on that and layer shapes
Can someone point me in the direction of a lox breeding tower, everything i'm finding on youtube is either several years old, on the ground so it's limited or super massive builds. Just trying to find the most compact/easy to build tower setup for mass breeding, auto killing is a huge bonus
I'm not sure I've ever seen a lox breeding tower. They're so big and destructive, I think most people don't bother
I would try this one, but instead of puffer fish, I'd use a chimney to send smoke into the area where the calves grow up, so the adults will in the smoke but not the calves. It's still a large build, but lox are large creatures
https://youtu.be/TeMqPYlGE4E?si=H_xt7lQdCEtul3OC
lol I was actually looking at that vid last night. I ended up finding this one last night and am giving it a try. Doesn't do the killing but supposedly doesn't hit the breeding cap fast so i can pump out bunch of calves and then just do it manually.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdlJQrKuvk8&t=11s
I saw that one too, but went for the auto kill version to share with you 🙂 I do prefer the look of the one you chose though.
Yeah it more matches the base style I'm using right now.
Does anyone have any ideas for a boathouse that isn't just a huge box? I thought it would be clever to build one coming off the end of my great hall but now every time I look at it I hate it.
I've seen some nice round/octagonal ones.
most of what I've seen that looks good uses the angled beams to make some nice design.
All I've managed is to tear down the majority of what I had. Still drawing a blank
Imo boat houses are hard because of proportions.
They need to be quite big even just to fit a karve inside.
So the solution is that the rest of your build needs to be equally grand. And tall.
Maybe make the facade of the boat house first, and then make everything else to that scale.
The tavern is quite tall, but that's also where I'm running into issues. If I extend a boat house off the back of it, into the bay, then the whole thing just ends up looking like some massive airplane hangar or something.
Hoe doesn’t decrease land necessarily; it flattens or it raises. Now it may lower the ground slightly if you’re standing at a lower elevation, but the pickaxe is where your real excavation comes in
You use a pick.
#building-screenshots message @untold cobalt what are the crate things your fruits are in?
Looks like signs placed in a rectangle with item stands inside
#building-screenshots message “Before” looks more rustic, more like a ranger’s watchtower. After looks fancy! Both are quite nice
made out of sings - flat small 1x1 wooden piece on ground and signs for a box walls
not item stand - we have now serving tray
banging! I'ma scoop with for personal use! looks soooo good
now if only i can find a mod for using leathers and hides more. I've got soooo many troll hide
just put them into obliterator 🤭 - if only you have "to much"
i do from time to time
if they could go on stands, i could use them as well covering to make a "paint"look
well, with item stand you potentially could put them more dense
i'm an aethetics kinda guy and my structure looks blasay
however you spell that word
but sadly, hides don't go on stands
no no no - i'm not talking about the hides now, not at all. I'm talking about fruits and veg's in the boxes
gotcha! sorry
currently, I made a set of boxes and used them. Thinking about trying to make one for thistle and Dande's
will have to item stand those since the tray doesn't work on them
with vanilla tools you cannot place dend's and thistles anyhow - you need mor for that.
you can on item stands I think
you can try - but if i not mistake those 2 items not going there XD
If we can use the serving tray to set down food items, such as yellow mushrooms, i wonder how it would look as like, walkway indicators
It looks very pretty
Over large bases that are spread out, how do you stop mobs from spawning in your walled in area?
Spawn-blocking items https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Player_base
so am i crazy or does the spines on the shingle roofs have weird alignment with themselves
@marble pewter MOAR stone!
Until you get to marble and then want to rebuild half of it.. 🙁
Right now has the Foundation plus the costet me about 15 to 17 Carts of stone
No i want the Rusty look of early game only the Flooring would be switched to graustone when i`m there for the great hall
Not grauston (I almost never use it) -- Marble. Are you not going to use black marble at all?
The Forge and Teleporter Tower will be heavily Using it but thats still a long way ahead. firstly i need to make it functional to get till the plains for the other Ressources as Black Metall, Tools, Weapons and the better Foods
Valid.
and quick reminder i`m playing 3x ressources
😭
😵💫
Slightly diminishes, but build still looks good!
Yeah but i wanna have the Grind but still be able to build without leveling entire Biomes... but as it stands i might need to do that anyway
next thing of Buisness will be the Spawner farm but next i need to clear the Bonemass
not today anymore, have a good everybpody
hey so ive been struggled to get a smooth brick pattern with the stone walls around curves. is there like some tip or secret idk, or is it just always gonna be pain to do that stagger properly?
IVE FIGURED IT OUT. its all in the pillars
Getting a brick pattern around curves doesn't require the pillars. How are you attempting to do it?
Whenever I would make the connection part I would just use the 1x1 cubes, but the broken up pattern always looked odd to me
@charred juniper No you don't understand, the rule says don't post modded screenshots OR pictures from the public test. With your logic, it's like someone telling you don't jump off a bridge or a building and you jump off a bridge because it's not attached to a building. (Obviously a hyper exaggerated example and in no way am i suggesting anyone should jump off a bridge or a building or a bridge on a building.) The point of the word OR is to differentiate between 2 or more subjects. Any modded screenshots, should not be posted here regardless of whether or not they have anything to do with what's on the public test. Which is the part you're not understanding. Hopefully this helps you understand the rule and the word OR a little bit better.
I understand the concept of OR. Thank you. Your explanation did nothing. My point still stands valid.
And it's been deleted as to apparently not twist sf into a tissy.
Then you're just purposefully being obtuse, because your point is invalid, as I and someone else have explained to you. The rule is perfectly clear.
@waxen moth you're annoying
What an incredibly ignorant and crass thing to say.
snap the back inner corner and turn inward to achieve this with normal pieces
I had done that for some spots. But some spots ot would results on wierd patterns. But I got it figured out!
@zealous citrus That screenshot of the horse makes me think you're from Denver 😉
I'm not thoe i did use blucifer as one reference
I’ve built myself into a corner here…10x10 rounded floor+roof with spiral stairs as access in the middle. Top of a tower with the walls being dverder copper walls for a beautiful 360 view.
Problem is, it feels both big and small at the same time. Struggling to decorate without it feeling cramped and unintentional.
I'd say put whatever you're going to use more often in the main building, then if you still think you need more room for other stuff make a small add-on at the base of the tower. Don't forget you can build shelves for workbench add-ons so they're not cluttering the limited floor space.
Not quite the frame I’m looking for.
The what aside, I essentially have 8 units in each direction with a view. I don’t want to block the view but need to utilize the space.
You could make it a space to get rested buff
And bedroom
This is one of the purposes of the floor. My struggle is making it look good and functional given my stated layout.
How do I layout/decorate a donut with no outer walls?
You could add some poles on the wall and put banners on them
Or put your bed with the head against the wall
The point is to not have walls, for the view
Maybe put some beams of some kind around the perimeter and use some of the blue jute/garland going around the top, that way it gives it some flare but doesn't take away from the view, and small decorations like candles and such around the window seats
A couple things you said here gave me some ideas, thank you!
just found a perfect clearing in the Meadows on the coast that backs up to the Black Forest - want to build my main base here, however there is a runestone right in the middle of the clearing 😩
any way to get rid of it or anyone know of an effective trick to hide it?
nope, not even with dev commands.
thank you!
You can hide it in a wall
I will try that!
Can anyone tell me why ashwood gets damage from rain when used as the trim for the bottom of the shingle roof pieces when regular wood does not? Who do we talk to about fixing this?
You can use the contact email on their website, and/or you can make a #suggestions for it, the devs are active in looking through both. They're on holiday right now though.
Thank you so much. I appreciate that. I’m going to the suggestions one for sure.
@wispy surge #building-screenshots message
It's made with late game mats, but you can find more using the search feature and looking up chandelier in the #building-screenshots channel
ok
There's only a few it seems actually, but they're pretty nice looking for examples or inspiration
dig under it and let it fall then bury it.
Runestones don’t fall, do they?
They do
Won't it just raise up with the ground?
According to pictures he sent, Apparently not. #screenshots message
nope .. they stay buried 🙂
If I am going to build something and one happens to be near by, I just bury it, if I can't work it into the build.
They pop back up later I believe
Mine have never popped back up, as of yet. Been buried for months
Huh, mine always pop back up. Maybe I did something wrong I’ll have to check
Interesting.
I've built over some I've buried. Glad those haven't popped up lol, would have a rune in the middle of all my stuff lol
But yeah, I've not had any pop back up.
Uh, hi all. Can anyone direct me to some information regarding the weight of different instances?
@deft obsidian #building-screenshots message
Looks so good! Im always aiming for Japanese themed village in my base as well, there is a lot of cool ideas from this build really well done!
any technique or reference you used to perfectly make that semicircle bridge?
Thank you for your kind words 😃
the pagoda antenna how you did that?? I've built with 1m wood beams but looks too thick sadly
Well a bit complicated to explain, basically I use an iron cage wall like support and them draw the curve silhouette with corewood beam, after finish it just dismantle the iron cages.
Well that's the complicated part of the building
right, I'm guessing items stands but can't tell!
right, cause it has squares and the vertices tru tru I was using wood walls but I had to guess a lot, it ended up with a shaky shape hehe
I ended up using iron shield because is wider than wood cheap version
Well, I will take a break
Happy building!
tysm!
how do people make good looking paths leading up or down? when i try it looks like garbage
im talking about the elevation
Shift + click will make for smoother transitions, as the hoe levels based on surrounding elevation and not where you're standing
that i do know. its just i try that and it just becomes bumpy and bad looking
is a lot of back and forward at the end, need to mix a lot between shift + click or only click, moving up and down, is all about how steep you want the path to look
I usually start at the top of where i want to path down from and hit it every couple steps with the "shift + click" method, trying to go up hill is a hassle imo.
i wanna try build a castle then make it a village, any ideasa / tips? (probs gonna build in meadows)
if you want to have a lot of tiny small buildings to fill in the village I would recommend separating every crafting area into a single building. That way you can easily have 10+ buildings design to have already
yeah, its just the castle i cant find any tutoirals
I don't know about tutorials but you can search the #building-screenshots channel for castles or fortress builds, I've made a few and seen other people's (which are objectively better than mine) builds. I would say one thing though, build it bigger than you think you'll need it to be, because interiors can get pretty tight if you make it too small. One of my more recent builds for example #building-screenshots message
anyone want to build a castle together lmk on steam pc
@ me if anyone is down its my first build and want it to look semi decent 😢 if anyone wants to help
@nova yarrow more photos please, I did never manage to build my own tree house
I'll get on that.
More photos uploaded. Keep in mind, this is on a public server, and they have some mods. Gizmo mod to have more axis on the hammer is required on what you see in these photos.
Some is possible in vanilla. but not all.
nice job. I still need some guidance for a tree house, seems complicated
Tree houses are fairly easy. This build is just a nest
I suggest experimenting in the swamp on the tree's you can't cut down. It will count as foundation, and the trees themselves are indestructable.
Just build a platform, build a small house on the platform, and go from there.
Once you have that figured out, you can build on any other tree in the game, aside from ash trees. They burn themselves down
Its all an experiment. Start basic and go from there. Swamp trees have no leaves, so easier to see what you are doing.
Everything touching the tree is "grounded" so its foundation
Ping me when you have time, I might be able to stream a quick platform or a small cabin on a tree, if the times line up.
Once you have decided upon a nice location, style and theme and also prepared some earthworks then start with mapping out a floor plan. Makes things a lot easier than trying to line everything up after you've spent hours building. I actually had a go at recreating an IRL castle by looking up the floor plans to work off. Was way easier than eyeballing it.
we found an area, just raisng the ground and yeah but gonna try make a floor plan
might get some mods to help with it to
Nice. What vibe you going for?
Can heavily recommend 'Planbuild' and 'Plant Anything". Gizmo is also great for different angles but at some point it stops being Valheim and so many angles gives almost too much choice.
alright ill check those
Well, we have alot of buildings already, so we are gonna have a castle at the back then have some houses and farm to make it a village / fortress kinda
and have a stone wall and a trench hopefully
only annoying thing is materials ☹️
You building in survival?
My builds in survival tend to be a lot less planned and a lot more ... "evolved"
yeah its for our survival world lol
i got the build camera mod to help it seems pretty good
would be good if there was a mod where i can just load a castle in 🤣
Planbuild
but honestly, where is the fun in that?
this might just save my life
im not the best at building, but i can build some stuff
Same as anything, the more you do it, the better you get. Just gotta experiment and work out what works for ya bud. You'll be building Wonders before you know it!
Just make sure you share the pics here after!
good point
do yk where to get pre-made builds with plabuild
Valheimians
tyty
best part of planbuild (at least, for me) isn't the blueprints but the upgraded tools (hoe/hammer). They are VERY powerful. Gamebreakingly so if you arent careful. Be warned.
And now i shall talk no more of mods here as this isn't the right place for this discussion.
Could anybody help me and my friend build a castle, we are using no hammer cost or whatever!
Freestyle that shit and listen to your heart
I did that it turned out okay
Hello,
I would like to ask about building of the month. What are the rules? I have some buildings i would like to share, but most of them are made with few mods.
Are mods allowed in that section?
Thank you
No mods. This can be from backgrounds to special blocks to rotation gizmos. Devcommands I beleive are fine though since it is vanilla
This is also the rule for the building screenshots and screenshots channels. If you want to share your modded builds mod screenshots is the place for it
Lol pardon the typo. Edited
Quick followup question, please: I would have considered a build with bushes or trees placed with 'plant everything' a modded build because... well... I'm using a mod to place those plants. But... you could have placed them with DevCommands, right?
Is Modded Builds, etc, then considered to be more for stuff that is completely impossible without downloading a mod and DevCommanded items are more of a grey area? Sorta like splitting it from Modded, 'Vanilla', and Survival?
I believe this is fine as there is no way to truly tell and it is a tool that doesn't alter the vanilla assets but simply allows the user to have a better time building
Devcommands are not a dead area and are allowed in the context of the monthly build, the screenshots, and build channels
Thanks! 🙂
Hey if anyone is willing to msg me like some really great general building mods or some of yalls personal favs. that would be appreciated.plz and thank u
@serene glade WAY back for the "Build for Baldr" competition, I placed a fair number of things with only dev commands, since ANY mod at the time was a disqualifier. Getting them to line up visually was the biggest pain, and took several attempts. I would have killed for the use of Plant Everything for the two small pines and six raspberry bushes in that build. While that doesn't sound like much, keep in mind that every placement requires opening the console, typing command, and repeating if you have to destroy it if it's wrong. PE eliminates the hassle of all this "fiddly stuff" with that added convenience of rotating the pieces without the need to actually move yourself.
Is it cheating? Technically yes.
Does it do anything you can't with dev commands? Also yes, but so far it's limited to a custom color ivy that breaks if others don't have the mod. But beyond that, there's no distinct way to tell if plants were placed with the mod, or via dev commands.
Not to mention (at least when i tried to spawn bushes and stuff in) it's alway like a meter or more off the ground no matter if I'm sitting down or looking down, have to dig down a bit to be able to spawn them at ground level and then fix the ground over and over again lol so I've only ever done that one time, and it ended up ugly af so i just destroyed it all afterwards 😅
They will "settle" into their correct level, but it sometimes take a bit. I found it annoying as well.
Ah, I didn't realize that lol that's good to know if i decide to try it again sometime though
https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966 This would be the channel to ask about mods.
The Valheim builders section is for vanilla builds so there's probably more of us here that like the vanilla game and prefer not to play with mods. There's dedicated mod screenshots and mod discussion channels in misc.
had a question about stone blocks. so im looking to build a castle with rounded towers, but ive never built rounded structures, only square or rectangle. how would i go about making circular structures with the 1x2 blocks? or just in general
Basically use the 1x2s and place 16 of them in a circle, and then build up from there. That's the closest you'll get to a circular shape, otherwise you're making octagons. Which aren't bad, i made a small castle some time ago with 4 round towers like that, and 2 taller skinnier towers that were octagonal.
Use the snap points to make the faces flush
so you rotate the blocks yeah?
Yes, 1 turn 1 block
thanks, ill try that
#building-screenshots message
If you wanna check it out, here's the build i was referring to
yes thats exactly what i wanted, thats so perfect thank you! ❤️
its working so well, thank you
Awesome, glad to have helped
how do yall make your bases usually, do you just everything into one big building or have them all split around...kitchen, storage etc?
was just debating moving my base
i generally prefer keeping things compact in my survival bases. Those huge castles and villages may look nice but you waste a huge amount of time navigating them during regular gameplay.
so usually one big room or at most one big central room with siderooms off that
ah okay, I SORTA lean between two of those, close range for access but separated buildings a lil
I have to totally agree with you @scarlet jetty , I have a nice big LongHall home with my diffrent rooms coming out of it and I just extend the extras as I move through the game.
Building those huge castles is all nice and I love building but not on a regular gameplay
Building for each workbench.
@little trout my understanding is you can post building screenies in #building-screenshots as long as the building itself is vanilla. Pretty sure if your up is modded but you specify building is unmodded then it’s ok
I added InfinityBuild so its not rly vanilla
I really wanted to build a castle in my main seed, but i was rly sad that i just cannot build high castle towers u know
I feel like the mods discussion and screenshots are more open with mod using than me tbh
My castle posted in #building-screenshots is over 15 1x2 high
Might be 20? Didnt get an exact count
The way i did it was lots of iron wood beams in the roof and walls
Can see what i did in one of the screenshots in the bed chamber
Wall is covered in them as is the cieling
I see, mine is a bit higher but i think you are right, ig i was lazy, i didnt managed to try all building tips.. Its a bit sad that i farmed so hard i had enough iron to build it vanilla ig
Iron beams are goated
And they might help with the aesthetic
If you arrange them well
not necessarily, you can hide them too
inside or outside both work, just put them between the blocks
It depends. If it’s my own world I’m playing on, the entire world is structured as a role-play version. Not that it will necessarily ever be used directly for that, but that’s how it’s built, it sparks my creativity. Shops, villages by the water and in the mountains across all biomes.
I also have a modded hardcore server for friends; there’s a mix of building styles there. The one we’re most active on right now is the same concept, but vanilla. A proper longhouse is inbound now.
You can’t ask a builder at heart for simple solutions, it has to be both functional and beautiful. Even the smallest huts for one-nighters are inviting 😂
I generally build more compartimentalized, but that said, I'm also a castle building enthusiast. I usually have a storage room, a workshop, a kitchen, a living room, maybe a throne room, a dock, if the build is near water and lastly a garden.
dm me if anyone interested in building me a nice large home, well organized.
Anyone have any tips on filling ground? I like to dig out things that impede even building, but filling in a hole always takes much more stone than I get from excavating it.
Build up a pillar and then aim at the top of that pillar, it'll take a couple less clicks than going from bottom to top every couple meters. Alternatively you can turn on no build cost in the world modifiers and then all you need is a workbench nearby iirc. As well you could use devcommands and the nocost command and you won't even need a workbench.

sadly no
you are limited to 8 meter as much
must dig beginning at water level
this works well enough I have dug a small canal enough to fit a longship
damn I just realized I cannot make pentagons this is a horrible discovery
yes but only if the starting land is already low enough which is rare.
You can but they're not gonna be exactly the same length on each side, 2 sides will inevitably be longer than the other 3
For example:
#building-screenshots message
@worldly ember i can't really tell where they are in the picture on the left in your post in #screenshots but if they were slightly under the trees (keep in mind trees do sway back and forth) the trees will obstruct the beehives production of honey
They need sky directly above them
well, there are trees around... everywhere really - i like tree cover
You'll want to make sure none are swaying over your beehives or any crops you're trying to grow because it will disrupt them
huh, I literally grow stuff in between trees
And any fluctuations awere very subtle
Yeh that's a fair amount of space though
i mean, some should have tree cover, given that these are oak, beech and pine
Do we have a gallery with screenshots of all decorative items and their ingame id's ?
specifically items you can't build yourself as a player
I also just found this:
https://www.valheimitemids.com/
but it's a list with no filtering options xD
also not exactly what I was looking for .. I went to the wiki, sorted the "other" list by category and went to the "Non-craftable object" section
thing is, they seem to make as much honey as the ones that consistently give "happy" status
That's fine, it won't really affect them permanently, but it will disrupt them

Heyo! I'm currently building big ol wizard tower, I've been getting along fine but I'm having trouble with a SINGLE 2x1 Stone block not being stable enough and crumbling, would anyone be able to help me 🙂
Just wrap it in iron beams
does it matter what material is placed first onto swamp's indestructible trees?
for all support purposes
given that it is as ground level (blue), would material impact anything palced after it?
I think height from ground is still taken into account but i could be mistaken, someone more knowledgeable may correct that
basically, by question is would a wooden beam support support anything just as well as iron beam when placed on top of on horizontally attached to stone floor that is directly attached to that tree as "ground"?
It's the same rules as building from the ground itself.
So flametal/ironwood beams are what you want to start with.
has anyone else ever built a Star Fort? I plan on making one in case anyone has tips before I get too far in
could someone help me build?
is there a fast way to flatten the land through console? Experimenting with some things in creative, but need a large flat land....
Lots of inspiration to be found on YouTube and Valheimians. Ive even seen people share step-by-step tutorials on YouTube if that should help.
How do you use the dvergr stairs to have 25cm horizontally?
I can’t do it every times I try, for some reason
Can the dvegr metal wall act as a standing beam?
yes, it has the same stability as iron cage and wood iron beams
Is there such a thing as “excessive” architecture when it comes to defending 2 star boar???
No.
you may protect it by height, and breed it in upper floors, i can help with that
Half meter increment measuring techniques, does anyone have one?
Hello, does anyone know how to deal with the awkward end pieces of roof ridges? i dont particularly want an open gap in my roof
Do you have a picture?
Cant put pics in this chat, will put in building screenshots
theres no easy solution to that afaik. get creative and try to freehand something in there
I usually opt for an even number wide building but theres no way for me to backtrack without taking half the build with me
how wide is that going to be?
7 stone bricks wide + overlap on each side
if its big enough my solution would be to extend the top line 2m more and have the side connect in 2m down to have a 6m wide wall to fill in
put a better view so you can see what rest of it looks like so far
side not i need stone generator i must have used like 70 stacks of stone so far
Back track it and take half the build. That is what I do.
this is all stone brick so it is a bazillion pieces or I would have already
Have you tried closing it with a couple 26° angled wall pieces?
@nimble frigate honestly, that build is just way too big for corewood and regular wood. When you get through the swamps, you will be able to get a new material to help build bigger.
I have 300 hours of playtime and I always used this blade. Which ones do you recommend?
Blade?
Oh, iron wood from the swamps, it is the best material to help build large bases with
okay thanks
I like how you used the stone circle for additional support, very smart!
thanks you i try to make a house for magic
Does that provide functional structural support, or just aesthetic?
It does, it counts as ground
Oooo ok thank you!
Here's my stone circle build. I didn't use them as support but in retrospect wish I had #mods-screenshots message
Same applies for huge indestructable swamp trees for example.
Yooo ok treehouse time
I’m very new to the game (days lol) but my big online group is giving it a go and I’ve gotten super into building so I’m happy for all the tips >:3
I also like to build an outpost on swamp tree bit later.

They're also quite safe, although some wraiths may find their way close and they might try to catch you.
-# Only at night tho.

I have a dream!!! 👆🏻 of boar pit 2.0 in which it’s actually my house but built in a similar manner…
And they called him ManBoar
Is it a man? Is it a boar? No! It’s BoarMan! From Boar Hut 2.0
@lusty surge Awesome! Good to know grausten + ashwood can give the tudor styling!
Pulls dying greydwarf up close:
"I'm Boar-Man"
ty <3
I’m dying!

And what's that?
||DEEP NORTH WHEN MR. WAYNE?||
@pearl escarp you will appreciate that one.
I definitely need some help with rounded roofs. The lowest layer if the roof is okay, but as I go higher I always get either gaps or roof pieces jutting out...
Experiment with snapping points, and use the smaller roof pieces; they're more versatile
What smaller pieces? All roof pieces are 2x2x2 or 2x2x1
I assume he meant the 26° pieces rather than the 45° pieces
hello! I need some help. I'm trying to make a circle border around the boss altars. There is now a square out of 2m beams that is 5656m (2828 beams) how do i make a circle inside of this? if i can i want to skip as much 1m beams as possible because i want to make a nice wall around it. or some kind of gateway or something. I guess some of you already have done this. It is a very tideious process when you can't fly 😛 all help is appreciated 🙂
That sounds like a lot
Honestly? My first thought was to use MSPaint. Draw a circle with the desired diameter and a 1-pixel line thickness. Then zoom in and follow the lines
Thanks! I Actually did the proven method of f around and find out 😂 its not a circle but it has nice corners instead where it look good when finished
How do people build tall structures? I resorted to infinity hammer mod but I hear the old technic was to hide raised grounds within walls and stuff?
Basically iron wood poles support higher structures. But some people use raised ground/trees/else things that count as terrain level support to build even higher than just with iron wood.
The other option is via dev commands, and spawning in 'rock_destructible_test', or other items that count as foundation, and "float" where they're placed.
It’s a shame that crystal walls can’t be placed more freely
It's a shame they are not more see-through from a distance
And they should mesh together(like grausten/black marble wall does)
#building-screenshots message @pallid yarrow Technically
but what mod did you use? Those colors are fantastic!
oh oop lol, i used the one called colorfulpieces
Hi, is there any mod that allows to exide beyond fundation stability limit while building?
Probably people in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966 might know.
I have a question for build of the month. Does the build need to be in vanillia valheim? As in no mods?
Me and my friend wanted to attempt to build something but it would require us to use mods so that we can both fly and use admin
With the devastating news of New World shutting down, in remembrance of the perfect life in Aeternum I will build Windsward in my world. The legacy will live on and New World will never die. 🫡
Huh?
Have you played NW?
This is Valheim.
I’m gonna build Windsward so it will never die in Valheim
Occasionally while sailing I come across a single ancient tree detached from any land. Just a tree at sea sticking out of the water. Has anyone ever tried to build a tree house on one of these? I'd assume its very easily defended.
It's doable
@cloud token what i just explained in screenshots is a stupid explanation..if u gimme a bit of time id be willing to create a 1:1 model of it........IF ure even interested in connecting the roofs. not trying to force u to. im still learning myself and that would be wonderful practice
Any builders around? I'm trying to design a harbor but I could use an outside opinion as I'm unsure on some details
The Youtuber Jakk did that in his hardcore Valheim series. Although I think there were two trees next to each other
I'm curious how you get a workstation down without cheating
Hmm I think they had land. But you might be able to do it without land by building the workstation on a cooking spot
effin log beams always screw up your dimensions
Are there any build pieces to make a circle , hexagon, or octagon?
Circle, not perfectly.
Hexagon, mostly.
Octagon, perfectly.
Any 2m pieces just snapped and rotated slightly to make the proper angles.
What about floor pieces?
Those you kind of have to clip, sorry 🙁
Rip but okay
But if you use the 1x1's you can clip only very small parts of a few of the edges and the rest works in fine.
Of, if you're using stone/marble, the wall will be 1m thick so you can just clip the floor into the wall and hide it entirely.
Which you can kind of also see in the screenshot.
Now ROOFING.. that's the real messy part unfortunately.
Thanks a bunch for the help
Anytime.
I want a circular portal building like a wizards tower
I did a reddit post with the blueprint on how to make that exact thing. Well, how to make the sunken towers from the mountain if you want to extend them upwards.
Lemme find.
If you reinforce the inside with ironwood beams going upward you can reach some really good heights.
And I believe you can go higher with grausten than with marble, but I like the marble look better, personally.
#screenshots message is that crystal as the well???
You should see her 5yo world video on YT, it is very decory and has waterfall made of crystal.
I will check it out, thanks! That well blew my mind XD
This is the best building video I have ever seen
does corewood and wood have a different integrity?
Yes, corewood is stronger than regular wood, and when you get to the swamps you'll get an even stronger beam material
I have a tunnel running underneath my smelter area, where you can collect metal. Right now, I have a tiny shack that is just, adjacent to my smelter area which is on more elevated ground, so store the metals.
I actually want to build something else a bit distanced from the smelter area, not too far but not directly adjacent. I like the idea of a tunnel connecting the smelter dropoff and a basement beneath this building.
Obviously though, you can't make tunnels in this game, so I'm trying to envision what I could build over this "tunnel" that would look perfectly normal on th surface, to disguise that a tunnel is beneath it.
My main issue stems from the fact that no matter what I build, if it isn't directly touching both builds, then there's spots where the tunnel will be visible 🧐
the best you're going to be able to do is flooring or stonework. I can't think of anything that will make a 'ground' looking cover for a tunnel.
Doesn't need to be ground per say, just something I could effectively put between these two builds that wouldn't look out of place.
I was debating maybe an animal pen with straw flooring 🤔 Anything that doesn't make it obvious I have a straight line of stone floor connecting these two things
But I want something that'd look "Normal" that isn't just straight up a building. Something I could leave on the ground "outdoors" that wouldn't look out of place
a big outdoor cooking area with some chairs & tables maybe. Thinking like a gazebo or picnic area. Extend the stone flooring out from the sides of your tunnel to disguise it.
You could use piles of stone, coal, wood, and bone interspersed with straw around a cart and barrels. Possibly add visible stone floor segments with a bonfire, hearth, or kiln on it, other "decorative" structures. (whishing well, small pagoda, outhouse..)
What kind of stuff do you guys do with the wood iron pole/beams?
Build farther, better, taller, stronger
Harder, better, faster, stronger 🎶
I’m so glad someone got the reference!
Reference to whom is the real question
Daft Punk usually
No its by the girls with boxes on their heads IKYK
As long as the answer is not Ye

Work it harder make it better do it faster makes us stronger more than ever hour after hour work is never over
Whut
There were like 5 (more, obv) videos everybody knew about when YouTube came out
#building-screenshots message was gonna compliment this but he either left the server or his profile's cooked?
idk but that build slaps
#screenshots message @sonic bay core beams have bottom and top snapping point the angled ones will be flush but im actually not sure how to fix what youre looking at without using a manual snap or some calculating from the other side with reg wood (easy)
oh sorry i mean the ground
Oh LOL they are chunk borders. May have to mess with the area
anyone else hyperfixate on the roof and find it the hardest part?
With stone yes
god cricular roofs are the death of me
Yes, I hate the grausten roof style
I really wish there was a way to fill in spaces between "ground" and walls without the soil going through the damn wall
Show me an example of that spacing and I can suggest something
Remove the wall bit and stand on the floor and use a hoe on the surrounding grounds, should bring it evenly to the building level without coming through
Stand on the floor above?
The floor level that you’re trying to fill in the space outside of your building of
Nvm you can’t remove the wall I meant since you got chests there
Bleh
@craggy saddle all on item stands?
Use the tool that allows you to place Feast, one sec, i cant remember the name
Serving tray
Yes Thats it! sorry for late replys the one hour comment rule thing made me forget lol
@vapid fable ^^^
does anyone have any tips on how to make a farm that has even leveled ground
no matter how i use the hoe/cultivator, the ground is never even
and it drives me insane
Stand in one spot to hoe then use ur pickaxe to flatten
Yeah, you gotta be pretty liberal with the pickaxe alongside the hoe. It takes practice. To make my road I chose one flat level, pickaxed the area around it just under where I was standing then level it all out with the hoe.
Rinse, lather, repeat every about 3-5 steps and you'll have a flat area. Took me a while to get the spacing to make my flat road but I got there.
Also u need to raise the ground sometimes to re flatten it
Truth.
ok i'll try that, thanks fellow vikings
@untold cobalt gives Skyrim solitude vibes
More Gothic vibes 😉
how is @wanton radish‘s post in building screenshots in the wrong channel /genq
its a screenshot of a cool building
cool building, just looks like there's a modded weapon in the screenshot
shit i shoulda taken it off :/
will take new screenshots so you guys have no reason to mark it
imagine if nobody reacted with that given the mods had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the screenshot
pisses me off that some people spend their time hyper analyzing every pixel of every image just to react with that stupid emote regardless of it it has any meaning or not. to each their own i guess
im glad you think its cool. i hate how i still havent broken my shell of the "box or boxes with roof and stuff" design but blech
@opal thorn what u did with the banner/signs is amazing, but is there a way to stop the banner waving through the sign?
What are the wooden circles?
Look like round shields
@cosmo0947 thanks! You can set wind to 0 with dev commands, That's the one downside, it's only practical for pictures.
Ah I see, ty
What kind of buildings do people build to hold multiple portals because as you get deep into the game, you possibly can have a whole lot of portals at your base just looking to see some examples
You've got a couple of options there. You can just use signs or equivalent to keep track of your portal names, then you only need one portal near your main base. I built a portal hub open framework dodecahedron (12 sided frame with 4m sides) for a bunch of portals. That's big enough to fit a ||stone portal || in the middle, too. The other thing I've done is repurpose my first meadows/bf base to a portal base.
I have two portal hubs, one under elder altar, the other is a two story circular building with 15 portals on first floor and 16 on second floor
When I move to my final base, I'll clear out the living area of my first one and put up portals.
Wood or stone?
Both
Anyone have any videos of someone building mega builds step by step? I want to learn from some builders, but a lot of builders just kinda timelapse their stuff instead of showing all the tricks and stuff that they use or explain their thought process
Thatd be so long
I know, but I would definitely watch it. I want like a several hour long video to just have on the side and passively absorb some information and tricks
Hi im Klaus has nice videos
I love his videos, but I dont think he really does detailed videos. More showing the finished product. I could be wrong though
Youd be better off watching streaming vods of builders i feel like
Anyone have a medium size blacksmith they are proud of that i can take inspiration from?
Can you post a picture?
Tomorrow maybe
I can post that too tomorrow
I have one blacksmith thats functional and looks good and one thats more efficient
Found some picture on google im trying to recreate :), but you can post yours if you remember either way
I'm finally naming my builds/locations. Kind of fun to add your own lore n such.
Like, I call my main base "Wolfrest inn" because it used to get attacked by wolfs often (as it's near mountains, for some reason the attack stopped).
Defo should build more around these "homes", some are really pathetic.
The Wolfrest Inn is really the only one I've decorated nicely.
I kind of want to rebuild my meadows home, but it feels like destroying a monument... it's my first build in this Valheim world (and basically my first solo-build ever).
It doesn't look awful, but I feel like the meadows have so much potential...
The house does kind of look like a barn... Might convert it to a barn in that case.
That's amazing!!!! How did you do the stones around the portal at the entrance of the building?
Stone arches both way you mean?
I think he means the stone portal.
@past jasper it's a structure from ||ashlands||
Yeah if thats it yeah thats from ashlands
I'm in mid early ish game and was redoing my base but having a hard time with the roof i wanted it to be one level with a roof and half higher with another is there a guide for roofs and stability ?
that's a great vid on stability.
thank you
Is the plains the next biome to build another large base usually?
Imo, yes. I generally have a simple small sized base in meadows and then build something nice and large in plains
well its when you get new nice wood pieces
True the new roofs are so much nicer than thatch
My friend and I built a pretty fortified base in the Meadows with a house with storage, a crafting cooking building, and a portal gazebo behind some large stone walls. We are itching to build a new base, but have not made it to the PLAINS yet so we were wondering if that would be the next one to invest a lot of time in for a build
yup, that's a good idea. you'll need to transport or grind metals on the spot tho, to make usable forge and smelting area
I like big castles in the plains myself
That’s what we were thinking, what would be the requirements of picking a proper piece or section of PLAINS to start building?
if you build a wall by rising the ground with the hoe, only deathsquitos will be a drag
i generally just keep a meadows base all game, since we'll have to transport metals no matter what
Most plains are fairly flat, so that's not usually an issue, but i like to make them close to the shore with a nice dock and usually near some rock pillars to use for materials
killed moder is a must for full usability of farming there, otherwise you can go to the plains with just the chest piece of root armour
Ofc a spot close to a mistlands is also a good idea, it'll usually get you close to some stuff you'll need from there for better foods and other stuff
I have Wolf Armor currently just hung up the root armor on the stand
for the plains I recommend going with a helmet and trousers from the silver set and equipping the harnesk. well either way, go to the plains, get stung in a full wolf armour twice, then reconsider :p
Unrelated but the still image here has made me realize an unconnected stone portal and a hexagonal door would make a lovely looking gate.
@tired rune
Any way to have infinite stamina while in building mode ? 🤔
Thank you ❤️
@bleak tendon what did you do to make a curved bridge here? #mods-screenshots message
Lol alot going on there, but in short - I made a small section/platform with the 4x4 stone floors and 4x2 stone walls, copied that with infinity hammer and used gizmo with a high rotation point (I think 32 or 64) to gently smooth the transition. Obviously this requires mods, but is vanilla compatible
Thank you
man trying to reduce instance count after the fact is a pita
Okay, I have no idea what's going on here, but figured the discussion channel might be correct. I was working on excavating a new base on a Meadows mountainside and hit a corner that won't budge. I was using my antler pickaxe at first. Thinking that was the issue, I swapped to bronze, but this corner triangle will not crunch out. I guess I hit some sort of world structural limit to prevent destroying the whole world?
#building-screenshots message
That is exactly what happened. There's a limit to how high or low you can adjust terrain.
+8meters -8meters
If I’m building a small structure for a portal in the swamp, should I put it on stilts to be safer?
There's no real need as long as the ground is mostly flat and the walls break line of sight for the mobs
Closer to the water the better?
As long as it's a good spot to sail out of with your iron scraps, absolutely. I usually just make a small spot big enough for a couple portals and use one for home base and the other for a portal i take into the swamp and set up on top of a crypt that I'm mining out, so i can get back to them faster instead of running back and forth through the muck.
Make a small tree house on the indestructible trees. Have the stairs be a little above the ground so you have to jump to get up there. No mobs except maybe blobs can reach you portal is safe
@versed violet #building-screenshots message You'll eventually want to completely enclose your boar pen with a roof.
Yep will do. What I've got is just a make shift pen until I can make a barn 👍
Anyone have any cool videos on how to contruct a bar for the house with decorating tips?
I don't have any videos, though I'm sure you can find some on YouTube but here's a small tavern i built a while back #building-screenshots message
Wow!! Super cool! Gives me some great ideas, thanks
ops sorry about that!
Barns finished #building-screenshots message
#building-ideas message hello, how?
I was wondering the same thing
If i had to guess if it's without mods, possibly sign trickery, or maybe some banners
was thinking the same but wow its so good i wanna see its like a magic trick
hey i wanted to ask if its possible to build in the ocean in unmodded valheim. like is there a command to spawn a foundation or something to make it possible
There are commands that will spawn in land, but I'm not sure how that would work over deep ocean, never tried that before. But spawning in prefab buildings and some other things with commands can spawn in with some land
Are these prefab buildings listed in the wiki?
Yep they're under the "other" category
Alright, appreciate the help
