Add beams for decoration?
What beams would look best here? Was thinking of making a roof overhang, maybe that will improve the plain look.
Best is subjective. 🤷♂️
(also why do you have THREE axes??)
An overhang would definitely help, you could also try avoid having a flat wall, instead adding some irregular extensions to it
Just some horizontal, vertical, and sloped beams would help break it up. Wood choice is an aesthetic thing. They can all look good. But contrast is nice. Maybe Ashwood if you have it.
This is what I got currently. Still not satisfied as it still looks odd imo. Will have to try out different things. I think the overhang came out good though.
Swap the stone for Black Marble!
Tried with marble. Looked just as odd as the stone. Just went with more roofing 😅
Looks good.
Chairs, they match the table better.
Either wooden benches or the chairs as it would match the table better.
As Anaksha said.
I feel like such a dude for not caring if the chairs "match" lol
Don't touch his mirrors though.
hammer mode floating bridge
8 Tables is enough?
Omg it's a masterpiece
Lol it's just a roundpiece 😅
But it looks so cool, why should I hide my sincere admiration 😄
Anyone finds a better way to blend Dverger stairs into the floor, let me know ❤️
lol working towards that but not yet, tyty
you can snake them, like so
How does that make it flush with the top floor though?
might not work with your situation though
The core wood aspect is what I'm specifically talking about.
None of the actual wood floors match the color of the stairs.
gallery?
if you're talking about aesthetics then the core wood doesn't look good at all. not because of the colour but the shape is so off with the stair's patterns. it might be tacky but even regular wood floor would look better imo. i haven't seen ashwood yet so don't know if that would be better? you could find a way to make darkwood work too, since so many of your non-stair pieces are dark in hue. you could maybe make the core wood look good to but in either case you'd need to put other pieces around to make it blend.
I guess we have completely different eyeballs.
yeh regular wood probably would look bad, i'd need to see it to tell.
Because I think it looks great with the Corewood.
well it's a matter of taste so you're right if you like it, so i guess the second thing i said is what you want to hear. use more pieces to make the core wood blend into the aesthetic. as it is it's sticking out like a sore thumb.
I continue to build the "Temple of the Fallen"
Well done
Good geometry
Tis coming together.
That is looking very nice! I’ve been meaning to do similar at our altar.
Is there a simple way to make the ring centred on the altar like that?
Also, do you have any tricks for getting the Graston arches like that? When I tried I could easily snap multiple arches to a single pillar, 😔
I don't know of an easy way to highlight a circle on megaliths. I highlighted it with the help of one-meter beams, which I laid perpendicular to the center of the circle, and then adjusted the beams as much as possible along the restricted area
Ok, sounds like you did pretty much what I had thought of.
Grausten arches are very easy to install using “shift”, you just need to choose the right attachment point
What do you mean “choose the right attachment point”?
I found the first arch would snap right into place, but if I wanted a second coming from the same pillar? It wouldn’t snap at all.
Via the "Q" and "E" buttons
That didn’t help. Just wouldn’t snap. At all.
(Moved to #building-discussion)
This is what I tried to do.
You still have to jump at the end)
But, but, I like it)
i built a pond for my 2 fish (i have plans on getting more fish)
Wait... if you catch fish and then put them in water they swim around?!
Kind of look ridiculous
Well, I now know what my next project is!
Does anyone here do small, heavy detail builds? I'm working on a kitchen and I dont care so much about the architecture, just the cozyness factor
Yep, I had myself an aquarium of sorts. I keep the biggest fish there of each type to easily catch for fun and the occasional mats
We have a Magma Fish, so that's going to have to go in ours when I've dug it.
If you are lucky you can find a dvergr harbor that spawns very far inland. The is a genloc bug that makes it happen once in a while and it makes a really cool pond
oh that would be cool. How big/deep does the pond need to be?
From my experience, about 1.5-2m roughly. I would hazzard a guess that the bigger fishes would need deeper ponds.
Throw them in a Tar pond 😁
Exterior progress:
I use this for item farming. You can recatch fish with the only limit being the amount of bait you have.
But don't they despawn eventually, the fish in a pond?
Not that I'm aware of
New full time plains base in progress. Pure vanilla, still no ashlands gear, every resource gathered on survival
That is crazy cool!!
Still lots of work to do, it's more like 65%
Looks great so far!
Thanks alot!
My favorite detail is probably the crates, I love the aesthetic!
Haldor's Manor
My swamp base. Not the most amazing build ever but it's a build
is Hiro still building / putting screenshots on here?
how did u do the purple light?
finally happy with this sink, the crystal looks like running water from most angles
For the Emerald Flame!
each time i say time to build small cute house 🙈
Snow Poll - express 🥳
some items have particle effects that kind of look like sparkling falling water if you hide them behind wherever it is you want the illusion
iirc the golem trophy and maybe frostner
saw someone ages back make a hobbiton watermill on youtube that way
about the most convincing valheim train i've seen yet
that reminds me... someone made a thomas train with a troll head trophy
Can use a campfire to make a smoking chimney
Tiny Village! The Beginnings...
That's so creative. The crystal does look like water. Super cool.
finally finished my village build but idk how to take get it all in a pic without flying lol
blacksmith area
kitchen
farm
pond (reason i chose this spot is because i seen a gob village with there own pond, typical viking things)
rest house (i got rested buff in a few areas tho)
dock/storage and portal tower (i like to keep them together for farming materials)
simple dock
Yes
Currently building a new basement for my storage. The current one is in the room in front of me. Hopefully nothing will collapse.
This might work!
sorry for the ping, but this looked familiar to me 😄
Grausten is pretty neat for detailing the walls, my ashlands updated base:
Ahh, great minds and all of that!
What is this dverger sorcery? 😂
Devcommands
Freefly
Ctrl f3
Cool village, looks cozy
Valheimian express!
Tickets to the deep north free of charge! 😂
really well done on this - I was searching for some orc builds and this looks awesome!
has anyone ever tried replicating some Elder Scrolls Orcish architecture? I'm trying to make something like the stronghold chiefs' houses from Skyrim:
after 2k + play time, this is by far one of my favorite build. Vanilla, no cheat 🙂
Not the greatest stairs, but they work. You can also use them as U-stairs if you wish
How you get those red roofs
ashlands materials
I love this bell piece so much. At first it felt bulky and hard to use, but as a JUG? love it
Really like the sign crates
A little safe house I made in the mountains out of the stone pit structure
little Ashlands portal hub
I need to see more of this
Thank you!
When it comes to Elder Scrolls builds I got only something like this "Cloud Ruler Temple" but I made it unintentionally
Is there a way I can remove these support beams and still have the roof
once you unlock iron, you can hide iron beams in the roof to support it
Can you not use regular beams?
you can only go so high with regular wood. You may be right on the edge of needing more support. try removing them and it the roof stays up, you're good. If not, you'll need support until you unlock iron
Ok thanks, I have iron unlocked it’s just a pain to go to the swamp
you will need to start loving it 🤣 Iron is in such high demand, in particular if you wanna build big & in legit survival without creative mode.
It’s giving shire vibes
I too have this project, but so little I've done. xD
I'd love to see your progress 🙂 Everyone has such creative ideas here.
Grausten boat dock on the island cluster my house is on
A cool portal room i built with my friend 🤷♂️
not a ss but a lil sum im working on
A cathedral I was working on.
Wow, that is amazing!
Yooo
clean ahh trench
That cathedral is really impressive homie.
It's not much but for my first time building something this big I think its cool (not done yet tho)
That looks really cool. I might take some inspiration from it. 👍
Cute little dungeon thingy
keep and inner wall of the fortified town i'm working on, currently i'm 6 weeks in, i spawned in all resources and am using the abm of valheim plus
Recreated Old School Runescape's Castle Wars minigame as a capture the flag mode (kept it simplistic to adhere to that old school graphic style)
I recognized this as soon as I saw it. This is absolutely amazing
Shes coming along nicely. Viking long house meets gothic steam punk. Psalms edition.
Thank you
Quite a lovely abode
Thank you 😇
Finally finished my vineyards. Let the vineberry production begin!
i love this, really captures the vibe
Vineberries being glitched af: wheeze
Hmm glitched how so? How theyre hanging off the edges of the walls?
They've been glitched for a while, they struggle to produce vineberries for whatever reason.
Pretty sure ive figured that out. They seem to produce berries per plant so if you let one plant grow across an entire wall you dont get much production. My set up has specific spacing to where each arch has its own plant on either side. Just collected my first full harvest and was about 2 and a half stacks so I would say they are producing plenty well.
And 3 and a half stacks from the 2nd harvest. Wow this farm is producing.
drapes....kinda. banners sitting about a 1/2m into the "floor" stones above. this is part of my detached workbench area(still very much WIP). just got into the plains so I am still building with rough cut stone and ironwood.
Have you reported this find in bugs section? Something tells me that devs might want to know about it
I've got a mix of vines growing either freely or restricted to 2x 2m poles up. I find it is simply random if and how much each vine plant produces. Main issue seems to be that the berries take a long time to actually appear rendered in, despite me having been in that area for a while already. Unlike any other crop really, which update their status immediately or very fast once I enter their area.
I can agree that when I first planted a few vines on my private server they almost never made berries. I had them growing in the plains on the border of the mist on a stone wall and had pretty much given up on them. But these terraced vineyards I made are producing like crazy. So im not sure what I did differently but it is possible to get them to produce well
wip farmhouse
told my server mate that we need a house with our barley farm, said I'd quickly whip up a small project... he is not impressed
like, its just a 3 story 16x16m hut
My success might be due to the number of plants. I have 36 plants in that confined space
If youre just going for functional then it certainly works. Im sure you could pretty it up a bit without having to redo the whole thing but if its just for a separate barley farm does it really matter?
his problem isnt that its gonna be ugly, but that I "Build too big"
Heres a photobomb level update of my ongoing fortress project that I started shortly after the ashlands release. Since the last major update I have added a full warehouse/forge, Trophy hall, full ashlands armory, barley/terraced onion farm and a terraced vineyard. Just a few more build projects and this one will be about finished.
Oooo those look really pretty!!
Thank you!
an understatement, this is magnificent
dude this is sick
thank you
Made a little Swamp Base a while ago. All Vanilla all with full Iron Support.
ohh, that's nice
A mighty Grausten Bridge!
Cathedral I'm working on. Mostly working on the interior now though.
Obviously it needs catacombs
looks nice
Upgraded the farmhouse roof. The inside windmill access turned out good.
Not the prettiest, but it'll do for now.
@alpine fox how did you invert those arches?
I'm using the mod Valheim plus, it lets you rotate blocks etc
Use Perfect Placement by Azumatt Can do Everything V+ can in Building without the other shit that only slows down the game.
Bonemaw fireplace.
too many pigs
f;h
my first ever build in valheim, in my first hours of gameplay, what do you guys think? :)
the attic was still unfinished when i recorded it, now it has some chests
very nice for the first few hours
ty :)
Is this from a mod?
workers and resources.. >,>;
thank you!!!
That's a good first build. The overhang of the roof is something many new players miss. You are also on point with the chimney & angular fireplace feature.
thank you man, appreciate it :) i had some experience from minecraft and since the building rules end up being always the same, it was easier for me to add some more little details than just some wood block lol
that is very good, if it made me think it was base pieces from a mod
[WIP] Mountain Lodge.
Quite a simple build. This started as one of those stone ruins you find in the mountains. And the area it was standing in was cut into the top of this part of the mountain (you can see the ‘cut’ at the back). And I initially just used it as a convenient place to drop a portal. But then I noticed what a great spot it is for a little lodge. So I've been gradually improving upon it.
An update on a previously shared build.
debating if i should connect the mote to the pond inside my village build, will it mess up the pond do yall think? because it seems like the water is higher in the pond but i could be trippin
Thoughts?
Hopes for build of the month! Done in vanilla with no dev commands
Well F....dont have FB
Nice build. I poked a bear with a big piece of bamboo once in my back yard. Like IRL. So I think I understand where you're coming from. LMK if you want to be friends.
I’m in! That’s awesome!
cant wait for the highways
Anibian is single handedly convincing the devs to include functional trains.
Alright finally at a point where I feel like this build is complete. Made a training grounds for my friends to level their skills up in a controlled environment. Used Rome colosseums and Yankee Stadium for inspiration. One side has 3 draugr spawners and the other has 2 charred stone spawners.
looks incredible, i cant even imagine how long did it take to complete something like this man
I think i started building the concept around July 1st. Maybe 15-20hrs total over a few weeks. I help my friend build something along the way so it wasn't what I worked on the whole time
my workshop. @half wharf
Blast Furnace working for all ores when? 😭
🤣😭
my castle thats in progres
it would probably took me about 100 hours to complete something like this, incredible work!
Mods to make this ridable please!
Seems pretty impossible even for mods
Elven town and temple are done now it is time for Elven Forrest
My Village grows
nice build how many instances does ur boatpalace has?
Something around 20k but it is hard to tell since other buildings are counted too
Armory is updated and full, not enough flametal to max all the new weapons out yet
what do you guys think of my starter base
That's pretty nice and detailed for a starter base
thanks, your build is really nice
ty! its a work in progress, going to be a full town at some point but i like how that building came out, that'll be the restaurant
Fancy restaurant, looks amazing
my second house and my first base ever on valheim, took inspiration from some cabin houses i found on youtube thumbnails (i know the interior its nothing crazy, i still dont have much to decorate with, and interiors have never been my thing on survival games lol)
also sorry for the quality, had to compress the video cuz of discord
stacking those core wood logs on top of each other must've been a pain
nah, pretty chill tbh, i liked how it turned out
hardest part was gathering all the wood LMAO
ty bro
i made this little gate to my base just now
looks cool man
thx ^^
Why are these all spoilered?
bcuz they are early Mistlands testing branch shots, which i had to copy pasta and they keep the spoiler tag, since i can't access the OG shots atm
This is my first 'grand build' solo base on an unmodded server. Even just grinding the materials has been an incredible open world experience!
wow thats epic!
Thanks, I love the black marble on your house and the huge window. I normally do the roof line the other way round, but I might have to try a building with the 26 degree roof at the bottom. It gives it a very different feel!
the building in the background of this other building looks insane as well
agreed, more please op 🙂
It's a luxury rabbit enclosure haha look into the windows
Building in the background here
#building-screenshots message
Work in progress for this village 👌
Love it! This sub provides so much inspiration. Today I'm building a magical staircase and aquarium haha
is that some kind of smooth stone?
It's called grausten and is available when you reach the 7th biome, ashlands
Here's the completed aquarium / magical staircase portal to the top of the pillar base. It worked out nicely 🙂
nice effect with those wolf rugs, it look like light that goes trought water great idea !
That's awesome! Very creative
wow have you shared more pictures of this? Interested in the internals!
I haven't finished the inside yet. This is what I did before I built the roof.
so awesome, share more when you do! Any specific intended purpose?
Planning my endgame compact house
Complex "Temple of the Fallen" with 8 rooms, in which there will be portals to bosses including the far north. Between the rooms there are gates, 7 of which lead simply outside, and the eighth lead to a building with a portal that leads to the base
Took me an hour but I think it’s lit 😅
The fires seem to be burning, yes.
That's a whole lot of nice looking stairs.
How u getting leaves up the stone
Thanks
since the screenshot shows modded valheim im assuming plant everything mod
Ahh yeah, for some reason I didn’t even consider that 😅
I was wondering about a random ping here lmao
Idk if the new Drakkar will fit under that.... ILLEGAL! lol
Definitely not lol
If only we had more angles and customization without needing to mod, awesome bridge
Swamp house took around 40 hours no fly mode in vanilla with ward is love
Pretty crazy build
that's honestly one of the best I've ever seen!
I really wish we could plant the green vines 😦 grinding Abominations trophy is very tedious
do you mean all of this without mods :O
ya! just lots of grinding and fideling without using the snaps
🤙🏻🤙🏻 it is done
That's epic .. well done 👍
And then, like any true artist, you look back on your own work and SCREAM:
😛
first time i see this. i think its very smart.
hi everyone, i'm building this huge citadel in the middle of the ocean : I kinda run out of idea and creativity in the middle of the build so idk for sure how it will look like at the end, if you have thought and advice i could use, I will take it
final rebuild of a citadel build in the mountain, with sorcerers ritual room, smithy and a inbuild prison for the queen.
guess this like 10 k atleast alone.. sad we aint got a bigger span for instances for a better performance
beacon idea with living surtling as lightsource
Jup Instances are true finnal Boss of Valheim
You should keep building! Just fill in the walls and roofs, don’t bother with details until you’re struck with inspiration
bunny cafe
Exterior is pretty much done, full survival, no cheating, plat everything mod only
Mega Base WIP (Survival / No devcommands) only mod is easy plant + inventory armor slots
I havent played with the new stuff yet. Need to finish this guy first. Vanilla, no mods.
-Eikthyr's Pedestal-
-Eikthyr's Pedestal-
Inspiring @drifting palm
Factory - dude
Really serene and creative, love it !
I cant seem to recognize which building piece you used to fill the "sails" of the windmill. what is that?
@frozen sleet you turned industrialism into art. Bravo 👏
We aren’t in the Bronze Age anymore
Hi Everybody. New here on the Valheim server. I have been playing Valheim for about 2 years now. I live on an Island in my castle where i basically cook and farm and build up courage to fight the Ashlands Boss. Nice to meet you all.
Thanks!
hi welcome. love what you did with the crystal
Thanks man. I made a greenhouse from cristal, all the windows and the circular tower on the side. Done with vertical Flametal beams supporting the crystal
nice
been back in valheim after a year's break, this is a simple build i made after finally arriving on the Queen island, a waterfront Dvergr property renovation. minimal terraforming was needed and the only mod was SnapPoints. special thanks to my Gjall friend for helping me get an aerial shot of the bay. i have no idea what the Ashlands has in store for me (no spoilers please) but i feel as prepared for those events as i could be with this place.
That’s awesome man. That black marble looks amazing in the Mistlands.
So you'd say that...
Black Marble Rocks?
interior
That’s so lame, i love it 😂 Yeah, Black Marble rocks
Awesome! Looks cozy. loving the details. I will make some interieur pics as well
Some of you might have seen the screenshots I've shared on reddit about this build 2+ weeks ago, I've been hard at work on it ...
The Sun Tower (check last screen for reference, google is your best friend for the rest :D) !
Exterior of the main tower is almost done, last part left is the top. I'm largely going to shift from the reference for that last part.
I expect to be done this week end, then interior work, so expect more screens soon ! 😄
You guys are something else, I'm going to college for Construction Project Management and I couldn't dream of doing half the shit you all do. This is astounding to me
looks amazing, it's making me excited to use Ashlands material. what is that stone? it looks so much cleaner than black and regular.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but ow yeah, it’s so much cleaner.
Ashlands is amazing building piece wise, the build I just linked is mostly made out of the new stone 😄
huh, it looks a lot darker in your pic than in the other person's. very nice build btw
His is mostly wall pieces and mine is almost entirely the pillar one, that's why ahah (also I'm using a lot of black marble)
So just different piece usage 😄
can you tell me the process? what is the design you are using? i'm guessing it was never constructed in real life. which mods did you need to use?
someone was asking for a simple beacon...I build these on occasion and think the term fits.
@jagged sapphire just something effective ill pretty it up with stuff later on 😄 ty for the help
NOTB: "It's not just good, it's good enough". Now to add the other side.
You can create quite a few interresting designs using the Signs and basic Html. In this case I used the diamond emoji with a white text and a big size.
And the tower's done. I'll finish up the retaining wall and stairs behind the tower, then it's on to the docks.
thanks for coming back to me 🙂 i was suspecting something like this, but couldnt put my finger on it. thanks for clarifying. i guess i need to find a guide on how to do these extra big fonts on signs lol. really creative idea. I really like what you built there. hope to see more pictures in the future 🙂 👍
<color=#FFFFFF><size=85>🔷
here's the code, but you<ll have to copy the emoji directly from the web insted of here for it to work.
Um... you are great at building.
thank you i appreciate that
Just need some touch ups around the edges of the bigger building and it'll look great
alright ill see what i can do
half
My first big base build, has been a few weeks in the making. Some interiors not complete yet that's going to take some time but pretty pleased with the outcome. Done in survival mode (no spawning in resources etc) but used some mods like plant everything, vanilla prefabs, clutter and moregates for additional build items no in the vanilla game.
this makes completing the Mistlands so much more cathartic. some things were just meant to be i guess ❤️
This is the inspiration, it was a design that was competing against Eiffel's Tower for the world fair. So it was indeed never built ! (it would have been taller at 350m too, insane stone tower that would've been)
It's not a perfect adaptation, but yeah it's close enough 🙂
All the mods I'm using are only QoL mods (such as plant everything, a snapping mod to correct some snapping problems I've had in the build, build from storage ... etc).
Since this is BY FAR above max leggit buildable height, I'm using a trick to reset stability at every floor of the main tower by spawning some debug rocks that can be broken down to some small pebbles that are easily hideable (spawn Rock_Destructible_Test).
I've farmed every single ressources by hand the survival way (so far, something like 4 blackmetal chest worth of Flametal, 60+ Grausten, 10+ Black Marble and so on).
Aside spawning the rocks I'm also using the fly commands for ... obvious reasons.
And lastly I EXTENSIVELY use the small wooden door trick to offset blocks for extra depth. I despise freeplacing so the whole build is basically snap-friendly !
Hope that helped, feel free to ask more questions ! 😄
Also, I've just started tackling the last floor. The original design has some big ass statues, which would be a little too challenging to do and using armor stands would just be way too small.
So I decided to try and do a head design, what do you guys think ?
Any tips ? 😄
I'm overly satisfied as this is more first "organic" type build in Valheim (used to play Minecraft years ago and organics were my bane ahah)
Reference btw
Maybe try 1m horizontal wood with manual placement to create a slope around the mouth and mustache
Really cool concept, I like the idea of building something like this randomly on a dedicated server for someone else to find
i know what you mean, when i did the eye tower using scaffolding i died 30+ times by falling. i still find it fun to do though, feels like being those guys having lunch on the girder in that famous New York photo. what's the small wooden door trick?
The small wooden door has two extra snapping points very close to each others on the side, allows for some small depth detailing ! 🙂
And for the scaffolding part I kinda agree, though I've grown accustomed to the fly command, I really can't play without it now ahah
To each their own 😄
I really love how you used the X shaped wood pieces on the right building. The pieces look interestingly woven together
thank you. Im new to building and usually i just make wooden boxes so it was a first for me
nothing wrong with a happy meal when you fresh start 😄
Sad fuling is sad that he can't reach my plains island farm.
This is where all the cool kids hang out, but sad fuling isn't invited because he and his friends would just trash the place.
I continue to fill the complex with interior
old build of mine, my portal oak 😄
Dragon Castle
not as cool as my 2x4 wooden box but cool i guess
Very nice !
little mistlands outpost
Finished boar prison and bridge
That’s mad impressive! Love the tanks lol
These stepping stones look fantastic. Im going to add some of these to my vineyard
Made a small cozy house
I used the angled grausten roof pieces and broke them till half health then added the thatch roof on top. And also used ladders for a bit of variety
I like that
How did you do that with the magic shrooms?
We place the meter post one and a half steps of the marble staircase below the desired height. We place racks for objects on the column. We set the floor to the required height and remove the post, and put a vase in its place. If the vase is located far from the wall, then after installing the vase under the racks for objects, you need to install a column made of wood and iron. It is narrow and does not look out of the vase
Interesting - I'm gonna give it a try 🤩
Thank you!
For ballistae.
Especially on one end where there is a hallway leading to the entrance. It was meant to be a killbox.
could someone help i level the ground but it goes dodgy
if it's too high use a pick, if it's too low raise ground. then level ground again
thank yiu
our small village is growing
This is pretty sick tbh 😄
Will you make a vid going around the place at some point ? 🙂
Too laggy ? 😂
I ... feel you my dude 🥲
I thing I'll do a video of my tower when it is done, since I have the same FPS issue, I'll probably do some trickery like flying around super slowly and then speeding up the video to account for low fps xD
I'll try at least, if it's too janky, fuck it 😛
Ty ! 😄
Hopefully exterior will be pretty much 95% complete today and then I can move on to finishing interiors ... (45k instances already 💀)
Little something I've made the last day or so on a friends playthrough
(yes there are a lot of mods)
I ran into a few issues with how I built it that you can see on the roof in places (overlapping roof tiles)
but I really can't be bothered to adjust things to fix it 😄
I like this very much!
Another view
Beautiful!
@frozen sleet I'm very proud of your creativity. That station is very nice.
re-added the channel header since it was missing
You continue being the best this much and we're going to have to invent a new word to describe something beyond best... 💛
just be Smiffe. that's a good level
what mod is the roof tiles from love the color
I believe it is Odin Architect but it could be one of the other Odin mods I have it uses the Odin Hammer and is under the Dvegr tab, it costs 1 copper per rooftile just a headsup
thx
bridge
Looks like those old school train bridges ! 😄
kitchen on a 5 person server
I am really struggling to capture this, but I built a tower in a lake I found in the ashlands.
Bridge im working on for a gothic castle I'm planning :p
I know its not much compare with other build's but i maidet for me and my frend's on ower server hope you liket
Agreed with Rianu
are stone steps supposed to look kinda wavy? i snapped them together, but they don't look very clean
Yes, later black marble and grausten stairs are more defined, but the basic stone ones are a little random 😛
Okay, thanks
aha! putting a diagnol wood border on it makes it look much cleaner, and hides the wierdness mostly
I never leave stairs without some ramp or other forms of structure too 😄
nothing special but i built a sofa that im happy with 🙂 kinda want pillows but i dont know what, maybe wolf trophies could work?
that looks great
@twilit ginkgo maybe try ulv trophies. They look like fur tails.
Thats my Main Base on top of a snow mountain. Gives some cozy vibes 🙂
boar tower
yours is much prettier than my janky wolf/boar tower. i left up the ramp in case i can get better wolves at some point lol.
yeah, the design I went with leaves the stairs there full time in order to go up and feed them (portals no good, since the goal is to not allow raids here), and swap them out as needed
yeah, mine uses portals
Here is the main point:
- Yeah - farm tower for animals is kind of not bad thing.
- Do you rly need it?
- When you reach 15k instances and will have at least 30 beasts - they gonna lagged you game like you will have 30k instances. And it will scale significantly in progression.
- yes. 3. i kill them off and don't breed all the time.
Enjoy then 😉 😏
A lot more work to do for my cozy tavern.
I just want to be the guy on a server that gathers stuff for people to build
got pissed off at the ashlands so i decided to invade it
Wow, I wish we could sail ships like that sometimes.
what mod is the hedge wall
Hi guys, I want to finish my survival build but somehow i am out of motivation :(. I need to do another iron and black marble run. Finishing seems to be further away the more I build. Any tips hot to get into right mood again?
Beautiful
take a pause, watch some inspirational Valheim build videos from other talented people on youtube or twitch. put on some atmospherical viking music while building or have a nice viking-themed TV show running on 2nd screen 🙂
How do you take screenshots without the HUD?
"A" frame dual chimney 😃
Don't force yourself to play, if you don't want to, then play something else. When you miss Valheim, you'll come back, but it's not a fact that you'll continue building, most likely you'll start a new playthrough
from the looks of things, you're not lacking for anything on ideas for how to build, you're just getting burned out on the grind to get the necessary materials. if this is a solo world, I might genuinely recommend going into World Modifiers and turning on No Build Cost for a while, just until you finish. Yes, it could be argued as "cheating" for survival, but it'll probably save you hours of time without changing anything but the material cost for building, and you can turn it off again as soon as you're done
removing the hurdle of grinding for the building materials will make it much easier to just build what you want to build, and make it far easier to stay motivated
New base photo dump, tried to make small portal hubs in the style of the corresponding biome.
significant improvements to the attack transport, including two 6-inch deck guns, machineguns, as well as a detailed interior (they even have bathrooms)
an interior i did with a cabin i built. im just getting into the swamp so i dont have all the building options yet, and food is limited since its just me. i like what i have though!
My big tower build had me feeling the same at different points.
So what I did is focus on a different project that I could complete in a day or two to break away from it 🙂
great advice! i took break from valheim for pretty long, did not even start ashlands yet, but i believe i will finish it someday but yeah doing sometnhing new is great because if i log in and see that fort again its just pain even if its nice :D
Exactly ! 🙂
I was feeling the same and thought for a bit what I could do as a little side project that would actualyl be useful.
I love my main base/village ... but boy oh boy it's gotten laggy as hell.
So I went for a small portal accessed house on top of one of those sexy spikes in mistlands 😄
Turned out as a lovely small house with extra food, arrows and bolts, crafting tables to repair and a bed with max comfort 🙂
Looks amazing
Working on designing a potential new starter base for future servers I play on but struggling greatly to make something I really enjoy 😄 dumping these here before I delete the house later x)
Pretty neat little build though
Feels tavern-esque imo
What wall design should i use? Looks a bit boring...
Judging by the screenshot : You're very early game still, so don't worry too much about design right now. Use your starter base the best your can, beat some bosses, progress. My recommendation is that, you should think about having a "real main base" (practical, beautiful, etc) by the time you have to go to the Plains (nobody wants to live in the swamp anyway lol). Just build around for now and figure out where you want to "settle for life", then start building your real home. (you should have a lot more experience with building / design / shapes and what you "can do" with wood and stone by then) 😉
Yeah thanks i have experience with building and making decent structures but always had problems with wall designs and ideas of what to build.
Oh ok my bad I thought you were a beginner lol, you'll figure it out ! ✊
@undone kite You can leave holes and mix with beams to add some decorations.
The one rule fits all for making walls less boring or pretty much just anything else is to add depth !
It's easy to do that with pillars sticking out of the walls (using the small wood door for extra snapping points)
I dig the basement I dug. ^^
I dig it too !
If you want to jazz up your basic house till you can get better materials, try adding an overhang to your roof and use an L shape for your house. Makes a huge difference with the look.
Pic for reference. This was an early game house that I built that lasted me till I got to the plains.
And speaking of builds, I need some ideas for my dock. I'm not thrilled with how the hanging lanterns look, but I'm not sure what I need to change it to.
Not bad idea. But would need to consider a bigger house. Got some ideas when I reach plains to make a true end game base. I'm still a bit undecided in which biome to use but i guess plains or black forest works the best in terms of beauty.
Yeah I'm having problems getting this depth, I can make the front of the house a "balcony" not sure how its called in English when its at the bottom English not my main language and sometimes forget words, rest of the house forgetting where the "balcony" is pretty much look bold and not sure how i should add depth other than enlarging the roof with one more row.
if it's on the ground, we call it a "porch"
Yes. Thanks sorry for the struggle xD.
Smol house
Any suggestions for the dock? I like where it's going, but I feel like it's lacking.
interior storefront of my smithy
You can easily add depth to a build by using the trick I mentioned with the small wooden door, here's a mini tutorial + example of use in the background :
The house in the back has tons of different "layers", another example :
under construction
FINALLY 😄
The Sun Tower is finished 🙂
I still have a little interior polish to do but that's it !
It was a LOT of work, but damn. Well worth it !
Danggg that looks fantastic. You should make a short montage or youtube vid on it, certainly worth of it. Takes some serious talent to make something like that, bravo
Thanks ! I probably will try to make a video on it but I'm not sure how it'll turn out considering this runs at 5+- FPS ahah
I'll try when I'm done with the little interior work I have left to do 🙂
instances?
51k+
yea thats the issue with projects this big. Ive seen people showcase similirly large builds so mabye theres some methods of lag reduction out there in the community
that's playable. You gonna start suffering with decoration - when it goes above 65+
What I will try is to fly around extra slowly and speed up the footage, hopefully that'll work !
Problem with this build is how dense it is, when you look at the entire tower you're basically rendering 51k instances, drops to 1 fps ahah
wish ya the best of luck, cant wait to see the showcase
It depends on you videocard - i did screenshots on render distance with 205k instances - and there was barely 1fps=) Hard to catch right angle - just kind of "step by step - strategy"
Yeah that's what I did pretty much ahah
My PC is getting a little old sadly 1070 and 2700x ryzen ... 🥲
But tower look's fancy - is it any lader to the top of it? Or it's just a decoration ?
There's a mighty long custom spiral staircase up to the top !
I will probably use this tower to yeet myself with a catapult into North Pole when it releases ahah
wait that would work??? I havent unlocked the catapult yet how far does it go lol
and so far as i see - it have to be mod kind of "infinity buldings" ?
It would work yeah 😛
tested the range and it is enough ahah
Nope, I use some QoL mods but for the extended build height I simply spawned some rocks and hide them in the structure ! 🙂
I see.
Stupidly enough ... all the ressources for this was also hand harvested ... with 1x ressource rate. 🥲
what mods do you use for higher builds, and how do you place forcks without them falling. Wondering for my own builds, thanks
I just answered that above 😛
No mods for the extra build height, I used the command spawn Rock_Destructible_Test that spawns some sort of debug rock that can be broken down into very small pebbles that are easy to hide !
The rocks then act like ground and straight up reset stability checks to ground 🙂
What do you mean about forcks tho ?
alr thanks, Ill def try that, forcks was meant to be rocks, mbb. Speed typing as im alt tabbing out of a shooter game rn. thanks again
Pinterest is your friend. I made these mostly out of regular wood structures.
Also no-snapping is often to make depth. 👍
Love lit!
thank you :3
Memory Lane Trip :
My 1st ever Big Project from March 2021 (Like a month into early access)
I remember doing this, just learned about flying, didn't know I could build for free until so late into it, so I did farm like 90% of all the wood, stone, and was on a budget number of Iron Poles. 🥵
Thankfully, the only reason I could make this stand up, is because I learned about the Pine Tree technique... 🤣
i need some ideas and suggestions with the upper floor of my house, make it look less flat
windows, balcony, different woods, reversing some walls
got it, thanks
i hope the bottom floor looks good cause i spent a long asf time making the walls not stick out
the ground looks like it wasnt flattened at all, if so, kudos, i prefer using the terrain as is
just the foundation was
yeah i like when buildings look as if they have a different height depending on the perspective
I am almost done with my house in a stone circle 😄 and yes i like yellow mushrooms alot, i think they give a cozy ambiance and the stones look very cool at night!
@agile gulch 😮 It's like a gothic castle. I'm proud of you for sticking this out. It looks beautiful. and the interior looks so well decorated from those pictures. TY for sharing this. Sorry I didn't make it last night to see it. ❤️ Well worth the wait to see the tower.
@vapid marten This is what I built. I had a chimney, but like I said, it keeps going out. I took out the chimney. I haven't refueled the fires yet. I was just wondering if there was a better way to make one.
Used to be in the back center of the bottom level around the fermenting barrels.
The "open" style of workshop
Viking Hibachi
long time no posts, but here's something! fairly simple, though somewhat functional. ...although, you can drown in the cellar during a storm 🙄
i made a "your base is here" sign
@frozen sleet Ive been looking at some of your builds in this channel (I really love the train yard) and im just wondering if you are using any mods to build these, and if so what mods?
Thats awesome, I was looking at them with a friend and we thought for sure they used mods but we couldnt find anything in the pictures that could prove it. I will definitely try out some of your mods for my building mod pack
Little village outside my town 🤙🏻
Perfect door frame
Ugly house
That's nowhere near ugly
Thank you
almost done with my plains home/mansion
There are not enough windows
Small island cottage in the meadows! With a fully stocked pond complete with hens!
@boreal hedge was inspired by the video you sent me and began work on a similar base! really tricky to build. hard to get a good photo of too. im calling the build the twin towers(i just think its a cool name no historical relevancy)
progress update
storehouse for this run completed, with enough room for all crafting stations
smeltery next door and living/cooking house follow next
Looks like it needs some defenses! The trolls will come
gonna wall it all in before killing 2nd boss, yes
(its very hard combat)
But really awesome storage room great way to start by organizing
Also I like the core wood support design.
slowly but surely mastering the art of circular roofs
these are tricky, but usually really awesome! I always struggle with how to place the heavier and bigger crafting stations. - This concept worked fairly well, though it requires the pillars to be quite close to each other.
DUDE THATS AMAZING ! man i rly need to make this work too :D
What is that world seed
8xL4Et2GYZ -
Thanks
how did u set up ur oven and stuff ?
you can use cage floor or wood iron beams to get support for ovens and fireplaces. I usually build them quite close to the stone/pillar to easily get enough support
oh yeah i keep forgetting about the useful ironbar stuff 👀 thanks dude
ive tried to make a nice pillar build for a while now and i end up always fucking something up so gone thru many pillars 😭 and my patience growing thin lately with em but I WILL PREVAIL
Like vaino said, just a lot of finicky placement. Not everything is setup yet. Haven’t begun work on the second tower yet
For the larger stations you might want to consider digging into the ground under the pillar
Yeah the best part is the structural stability. Allows for a lot of things not really possible on other builds. Also is made more interesting since you can dig into the pillars.
day 150, this is probably the best building i have built so far (450h), queen is next
Pretty cool, awesome to see a room that big
A chimney with an angle (against the rain). Goes well inside an "A" frame house.
a variant with a hole in the roof
ah cool thank you ! @plain herald
my work in progress house :3
Love it
grausten is so good to build with but man do you need to farm alot haha
Thankfully there's more than an abundance lol
mhm! ill get alot more at some point soon and finish it. i gotta move out of my starter house cause its just a wood box wich isnt that pretty x3
whats that stone type structure everyone's been using
That is grausten and is found in the ashlands
Nice cellar
a couple examples of tower floor support I've done in the past @fading pasture
Cozy Meadows cabin
ffsmooth command to smooth the camera angle, I see you're struggling lol. I hate when recording, it's rough like this too 😄
Today I started the project of a proper base in the plains, and I decided for a castle on a hill with 3 levels. The terraforming is being made with debug mode by raising terrain for free, but the construction itself will be 100% survival. I might upload a screenshot of each session, to share the progress. The terraforming is mostly done, there will be some expansion on the middle level, and so far I like the result
the city of Novgorod under construction
My base currently
main base of the first fleet of the grand arcian forces under construction. The work is slowly coming to an end, but a reinforced roof still needs to be erected and the building should be equipped with rooms for the management board and the headquarters of the first fleet.
I have to ask how do you guys build Piers like that?
Practice, time and occasionally a fly command 😉
🤫
Second day, I've finished terraforming the middle level, made the general outline of the wall, built the stairs that connect ground level with the middle level, and completed the structure of the first floor of the castle. A lot of pieces aren't rendered from the distance of the camera, I'll start making more detailed pictures tomorrow I guess
took me a while but ive never felt more accomplished
great job! Bridges are always tricky.
thx but after seeing the other builds in here i dont think i did something special lol
Time and patience. You'll find a groove when it comes to building, and you'll find your own style. Keep building, and you'll get there.
thanks man
Hey we all start from somewhere, my first project was a wooden bridge too, as soon as the building in this game clicks for you, you will be going for bigger projects in no time
I like functional projects. I bet that wooden bridge solved a problem for Igolry. @boreal forge was that a cart path?
Hey thanks man ill try
Exactly what it was lol
The Viking engineer salutes you!
@frozen bay posted this to #building-ideas and I wanted to try it... Quite nice and cozy, might even be suitable idea for village theme!
After 300h of ugly survival builds, I finally convinced myself to start a build-test world: the first try was a castle wall that's supposed to be functional yet a lil pretty, therefore stairs on the ground to (hopefully) distract the NPCs AI and the steep stairs on top to shoot through. Open for further suggestions (esp on decoration) 🙂
looks good! I keep forgetting that stairs could be used as a tilted wall
Plains base with pointless tower. The smaller rock under the pillar is hollowed and acts as expansion to the kitchen and a storage space.
Thanks!:)
These Tar roofs really are a wonderful addition to the game!
It's also lovely to see someone else who takes walling off the base quite seriously
Rain is beautiful in this game
Almost finished with my new base
different ways of windows/walls

forgot to post it yesterday, but I finished up the structure of the castle, when I finish with all the stone building I'll start with decoration. Now I have to farm stone again, because my stone reserves of 6 iron chests of stone ran out, and I'll continue with the wall of the middle level
I may make the towers taller respective to their floors because the top part looks kinda bland
Youtubers doing some off-camera building:
Big compliment! Thanks! 😊
I like how you did the walls, haven't touched much those pieces overall but you combined them well
Thanks! These new pieces are so epic
I love them too. 1x1 walls would be nice though.
starting to like the way my house is going, (ignore my visitors)
I like how you're combining different building materials and cool details adding depth.
Forgot to add these to the rest, still a work in progress.
Today I finished the general structure of the whole wall, both middle and high level. The only structure remaining is the towers at the entry, after that I'll do some rework on the slope that connects the middle and the higher level, and then the work on details begin to make the wall and the castle look less bland
Retiring my starter "fisherman's shack" base as I graduate from the meadows in search of higher greydwarf.
My current main base, close to a river which leads to the ocean and a bunch of biomes
you have found quite the scenic place
Yup, beautiful vista point between a dark forest and swamp, this seed is nice
those roof design reminds me of ancient balinese architecture. nice base!
thank you : )
@heady yoke
4th day, I can say structurally the base is done, the only things left beyond decorating interiors and adding detail to the walls and castle are the docks and the harvest fields
okay, that is incredibly impressive
did you use a mod to allow more adjustment of the terrain height, or did you just get that lucky with the natural generation?
I just searched for a high hill and then raised the ground
Terraforming was done with debug mode to not spend 3 times as much stone
Building was done survival
I replied to all my comments showing the progress, if you go to the first one you'll see the terrain when I started
I genuinely love the build, but I can't even begin to imagine the amount of resources spent to make it in survival
let alone the time that must have been spent on it
Castles be like that
yeah, for the walls that's a shit ton of stone.
we're easily talking thousands of stones there
one stone pillar in the Plains was 7.5 stacks of stone. so only ~375
Exactly why I built my second castle in hammermode
My world is on 1.5x resources for that, but still it took all my reserves on the second day. Luckily the plains got a lot of big rocks so farming them wasn't much of a problem
Lost the count but it sure took more than 10 iron chests full of stone
now that I take a look the castle seems to lack something in the middle, I might make some reforms
screenshot of my build at night, needs lighting but i love the atmospheric foggy moments when they come
here's another angle
its work in progress obviously, my playthroughs always tend to get so sidetracked, need to build this, go find this, kill this boss, do hildir's thing, get some barley, finish the blacksmith, oops i ran out of tar, go get some tar etc. etc. and then i never finsih any build 🥲
dude that ship fleet thing is so sick, it gives me WW2 navy vibes cos of all the conrete
the zig zags i had in my wall were driving me nuts. tore it down and rebuilt it straight
any way to roof the angle? ideas for roofing this?
yeah, i guess that looks kinda neat
i just finished my base
maybe like this?
or perhaps using the o-corner for the top part, and i corner on the bottom part, then connect them with the straight roof? 🤔
can't open game atm.
does anybody know how to build on this? i used iron wood beams and everything but nothing survived
How did you get that core wood so nicely lined up?
Those are normal wood panels
You need to start the iron wood in the ground, instead of building off the unstable stone. So just go down a couple of the corners into the ground and then build off those points
Nope those are core wood beams, lined up to the roof pieces to make it look like a slanted roof
I was looking at the wrong picture lol my b
i can imagine, there are so many epic builds being sent here
if i ever get to build a massive outpost i will definitely be taking inspiration here
Also tholwin and heliums pfp look similar at a quick glance lol
But they probably snapped beams to the 3 snap points the roofs, and then freeplaced the ones in between
think so too, v nice craftsmanship
Indeed
not trynna glaze but valheim has got some of the most versatile ingenious base building out of all games ive played
I feel that, I didn't get it at first, kinda hated it but after I figured some stuff out and got some help here and there it's really quite nice
i used the i and o corners to drop the roof, no straight parts. this does look better i think
my first longhouse and first build without any guides what so ever 😎 am proud 😎
𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓫𝓮𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓱𝓪𝓹𝓹𝔂
they certainly are, my friend 😌
New to the server, figured I'd share my latest project. All started because I found two parts of a bridge in the Mistlands.
Haven't done much today on this, took a bit of a rest from building, just did a quick dock and some terrace style crop fields for wheat and linen. I'll probably take a rest from this build, I spent like 42 hours across 5 days (most of those hours on 4 days). When I touch this again for esthetics work, I'll post an update with the final result.
Really happy with it, I've been able to make something mostly like what I had in mind, and learned a couple of stone building things.
I noticed some ppl looking for portal hub ideas. I found a good one on Youtube, and customized it.
View from the underside.
interier not done or even started but i finale finished only used fly to show the base
My current base with my house, Workshop and farm, built myself into a corner though and need to relocate so I can build a bigger forge shop and port for Ashlands items
newly created Blacksmith. went for a more open design
Portal hub feels more like lag machine
Now thats a portal hub
i have finished the blacksmith exterior - next step, decorations
Haunted
My solo playthrough base. First time I've actually done a solo game, my only valheim experience has been with two friends 😄
Lol, I like the boar name. I had Piggysmalls and KevinBacon breeding for me for a while.
I have Boaragon and Boarwen
Just wait until I tame my Wolf, 'Winston'
same my only experience was with 2 friends too we couldnt get past bronze so im doing a solo rn too
Furthest I got with my friends was plains (pre-boss), but I like to spend time building and getting each biome kinda "complete" and upgrading my base 😂
same man i give alot to building just re made my base and working on a project rn need alot of stone lol
Made a tavern as well
Looking up.
Creative mode build. interior is not done yet.
this feels like what the tower of babel would look like
ive been trying to build like a upper level to have the main building on but already on the saircase im stumpted on what to do to improve it
anyone have any cool circle of stones bases? looking for inspiration
Crazy roof! made of wood beams
Looks cool, but like a pain to build
The shape of the building made things difficult.
hows the lag around it seems like a good chunk of build pieces
It's part of a temple build, so close enough.
but does it give shelter buff everywhere underneath it?
No, it is purely decorative. I had to make a "real roof" underneath...
aaw. shame 😦
that's weird, I know I can sometimes get the Shelter status by standing under an angled beam
hey small question, does this A-frame wall look better with or without the frilling?
It looks fine either way tbh, how do you feel about it though?
I feel like it just works better with the frills, as it gives more character to an otherwise flat wall, and can be lored away as structural reinforcement
I'd say the frilly bits add a lot of depth to it, which does look better
I also love the little curve you put at the bottom on one side
yeah, initially they were just bare beams on the front, but then I covered them, and that eventually gave me the idea for those diagonal crossed beams
otherwise, just a standard pre-eik A-frame with a width increase in the middle
just finished a 20 meter wide 45 degree roof using hammer beam style trusses(6 meter spacing, no iron used)
have y'all seen any other hammer beam roofs in valheim? couldn't find anything on google and searching for "hammerbeam" and "hammer beam" here only shows 1 message of someone posting an irl reference pic
some hammer mode fun
getting started on building my first castle, any ideas? (i have all the building mats unlocked so im confused on what to make it with, should i make it out of good ol stone, or black marble or the shiny new grausten?) also i have no idea where else to post this because this technically isnt a building yet lol
i recommend checking some older posts of castles and/or watching some youtube videos, because building a castle that looks good is really hard.
also... thats for #building-ideas 😉 good luck !
i thought #building-ideas was for people sharing their ideas lol, thanks!
figured out how to perfectly intersect roofs that aren't at a right angle. time to add trusses
The "Wizards Tower" build, screenshot from Reddit, user "Khrynn"
most of this was built on normal settings.
Banners on the wall will make this excellent build really pop!
Was thinking on putting them, as well as some kind of columns for some depth
Bro casually made the house of odin in valheim
stupid question but can I send a picture of my gatehouse i built using only vanilla pieces? the only mod i used is infinity craft and only used it to speed up the building by alot, but i understand if its demeaning the other builds that was built legit
As long as there are no obvious mods, like perfect in line planted berry bushes and obviously over rotated pieces, then it really isn't an issue. For anything obvious there is the #mods-screenshots channel as well, where you can share modded builds and/or show off other mods.
if this doesnt count im gonna delete it
Looks good, only 1 thing really sticks out to me, but no big deal
Alright thanks! I honestly don't know why reinforced black marble isnt a normal build piece even though it is used in devergr villages
This looks so sick in the mountains & snow! 😊
thanks! this is just the gatehouse and the castle walls, i'll be the doing the castle keeps and some watchtowers tommorow
Indeed it would be a nice addition to the rest tbh
Floors get fancy with Ashlands build mats.
Is that with Infinity hammer? Looks really amazing and I 100% agree all those build pieces should be in the game, missed potential
Recently completed a manor/castle using creative+dev commands (first photo is completed and others are WIP beforehand)
holy hell this is so good
i love the use of damaged wood beams
Looks amazing!
It's fantastic! Are there screenshots of a gate also?
Started to design the portal rooms of the project "Temple of the Fallen". The first one is ready
I didin't take any but its literally just a cube it was only for the screenshot lol
Looking once again all the awesome castles, fortresses and manors, all I can say is, I build this 🙂
This is my plains base
Our base (wip)
Elven Forrest
historically accurate interior (except the neck trophy, probably)
Made a little kitchen
love that
Finished another castle and tried using a different palette
Hey guys I wanted to share the biggest project that I am making in my Valheim, I am creating a Great Barrier between Mistlands and Ashlands.
Its a huge Dverger wall style of Barrier that Im making
the amount of iron that u would need for building it in survival mode
My shack RAAHH
don't see a lot of log cabin-type builds. nice!
Roof Framework
There aren't enough Logs
Mage tower I've been having fun tinkering on in hammer mode.
Can I join somone in valheim I’m new to pc gaming and want ppl to play with in valheim
Starter Base Maedows
looks good
I was trying to make dome from grausten arches but I end up with ufo flying over my head 😂
I don't get it, why does this one corner roof keep breaking? All the others are perfectly fine and nothing is damaging it D:
I otherwise love this super tiny little gazebo...
not even support to that piece: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Building_stability
How? All of the roof pieces are attached top corner to the tip of a corewood post that's green (it's on top of another corewood post). Nothing in the stability page seems to apply to this.
look at the colors of the pieces connected to the piece that keeps falling and tell me what you see
All green. And all the pieces remain green until it randomly breaks.
🤷 okay, guess not. but i more believe it's structural.
I would normally think so, but there's no way it's not supported.
Hard to tell what's broken, I see the wood up top, but which one is breaking? Specifically? The one directly out over the water? If so, it might think the terrain is too far away or something like that throwing off the support right there. I would try raising the ground below that spot just a little and see if it continues.
It's a big umbrella of roof pieces, all attached to a corewood point and rotated once to fan them all out. You can see a little gap between the ends of the roof pieces where the one broke and the wood pieces are sitting on top of.
Doesn't height only matter in relation to the other pieces it's being supported by?
That's pretty much where I figured it was supposed to be, just a lot going on lol and I'm not exactly sure how height works in those terms, but it could be worth a try, if not then really there's no other reason it shouldn't stay there imo
Like this build is completely basic wood, the whole roof ridge line in dark red and never breaks, so I find it strange that a little piece stuck on green stuff wouldn't stay up there.
Same, I have a bunch of builds in deep red that are perfectly fine, and this one only ever breaks off-screen. I've never actively seen it pop off.
@undone wing In large builds, pieces will often appear green when first placed, until the game engine calculates the real structural integrity. As builds increase in a player area, this time increases. I had so many builds in one game it took several minutes for a pieces to break.
Just keep moving your cursor over the piece and it’s connecting piece and wait for them to change color. I can almost guarantee it turns red right before breaking. To fix try:
-Raise ground so that the bottom most piece is connected to ground/blue.
-reduce the distance to ground by using a straight support.
- use stone for ground support
- use wood iron poles connected to ground.
Are you sure that very last piece is really snapping to the core beam, and not one of the other neighboring pieces? I've built such a wooden fan myself, and found the very last piece somewhat tricky to place.
That's a good point. You find any tricks for it? I replaced it earlier and it has yet to fall, but I haven't used a portal yet which is usually when I see it happen.
What could i add to decorate the Fields?
No tricks, just fiddling around until I hit just the right spot for that piece to snap correctly.
You say your build broke when using a portal nearby, that sounds as if you might have been affected by a bug which should be fixed with today's update.
more grass & a wood beam walkway
'The Brick' ™️
how you get leaves in house
Mods or cheat commands
oh okay ty bro
You could build close to a tree too, but hard to tell from that pic if it's tree leaves or the wild vines you see on random overgrown old houses and such
these are from the trees outside..
A little WIP project I'm working on...
Going to turn the stones area into a portal building?
Yep - biome boss portal hub. 🙂
That's a great idea and I might steal it
still not done, but getting closer with the outside. Inside and the base are still a big mess
Not finished, but taking shape. I plan to replace all the roofs with shingles.
made some offsite storage with 320 black metal chests
was still a work in progress at the time of this particular screenshot, but my friend and I made a big and very fancy village style base in the plains, which we've dubbed Seawall. I'll provide a better screenshot some other time
Hello I build medieval christian town which I called Burnfast 😅 I stopped at 43k of instances due to lag
so only 2/3 is fully decorated inside
framework
Here's my Medieval Concept Home. Hope ya'll like it 🙂
It's my first Starter base i don't want to blow up after Iron Age
Very clean! Good job
thank you
My lil kitchen, makes me happy whenever I have come in and cook
i made a cute lil kitchen
New Home :) (Still in Progress)
The Fulings are not where they should be...
🙂
damnn, looks so cool
build something strange for a change. No other mods, except Plant Everything. Build in creative mode and with devcommands.
Water world vibes
Now that you said it... Yeah, I see it too
Much nicer than the place in that movie I'm thinking of but it immediately came to mind when I saw this lol
yeah, less dudes jumping on jet-skis and more trees 🙂
wow someone who actually knows the movie Waterworld
that would make a fun mod for valhiem
wow
weird thing I found 😄
It's a maypole
first time I have ever seen it
They're a bit rare
my new home 😄
big fan of the name
Nice
Maypoles are seasonal items that give +1 to your comfort levels
Sometimes they spawn in randomly around unoccupied villages as a nice bonus
Starting to make a wall around my chinese style inspired settlement. If anyone wants to chill & build with me lmk
mistlands base - work in progress
Are we allowed to share video links? I finally got around to doing a tour/fly-through of my favourite castle. 🙂
crazy! love it
here's the video if its ok to link...no worries if not. I am not a youtuber, so its not very smooth, admittedly LOL
made a heart in an wall (friends map) using 1m wood beams. was pain but worh it ig.
When you long for the sea, even at home
Tiny patch of black forest in the middle of a massive swamp is begging for a castle... Very much WIP 😄
Layering on the detail at this point...
Really love the thick wall style you went with
That’s incredible! How long did it take to build?
I love the people in this channel 🥰
So many beautiful builds! 🤩🥳🥰
I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. While I was working on it I didnt really pay attention to time...it was just a project for a while. It was a LONG while, though LOL
You can probably count it in days spent not hours right? 😂
I like that you noted this is just your “favourite” castle 😂
This isn’t even the only one you’ve worked with 🤣
LOL indeed! I made one pre-mistlands a while back, but it wasnt as nice. It was lost in a corrupted save file, unfortunately.
Then I've made some pretty massive houses, too, though probably not quite "castles".
sick trophy room tdubs - i dig how it's sectioned out per biome - including the armor sets avail in each. nice work
Eikthyr Altar turned into fishing chillzone
Thanks! I had a more basic version of it on my personal server so when I built a base for our shared server I wanted to go all out on a nice trophy hall. I particularly like the glass under the cases that let you see the lighting from the lower level as well as the dwarven circlets I have to give them excellent lighting. This base has been an ongoing project since ashlands hit. Maybe one day I will finally consider it finished.
do fish multiply?>
nope they don't but you can catch them wherever you want and drop in other pleace
bridgeheim got a figurehead
thanks i appreciate it! pretty new to building in this game so not quite sure if everythings lookin right or not
Recently moved to Sweden. Here’s a Reality vs Valheim
Made a little treehouse terrace with @feral flame
In Valheim there is no right or wrong building.... There is: "I am an artist, this is how I see it"😁
Getting somewhere with the wizards tower. I was inspired by a build I saw on reddit, but I soon gave up on trying to recreate it, ended up with this. Now to do the interior - and eventually start swapping materials for more modern things. Everything built in survival btw, only activated devcommands to take the screenshot.
"devcommands",
"freefly".
In this case the character is not visible
aaaah yeah, I only used "fly". 'DOH! Thank you!
today I felt Like I need some change from elves so I decided to build one of Undead buildings
well, the main building is finally complete
Hi, this is my last build : a citadel in the middle of the Ocean, it's almost finish, i just need advice on how make my 4 towers and the future main spire looks good, is anyone who already have complete grausten tower can give me hint i would gladly take it !
i dont see the city :^)
I don't see your point
a citadel is called such because its part of a cities defenses^^ (looks pretty good tho)
Google it, and tell me that again, thanks 🙂
google will fail you on those topics^^
I did, and can confirm. Of course, as 'Fox also pointed out, easily found definitions are rarely exact. Still, even from what I can remember from more proper sources, they are correct.
Is anyone here care as much about definition than answering properly about the topic ?
Damn, it seems like a no
here is some update on how my mistalnds mage tower is going, started on the inside finally, trying to get the kitchen vented atm
cool storm makes good dramatic screenshots
It seems I've come to the wrong place, I'm kinda disappointed about the respect you show to other
I can still read deleted messages 🤔
Thanks 👌
I believe a citadel is a space structure, actually
Lol there's the citadel of ricks, if you've seen rick and morty and then in EO and EE they are similar to that, structures for docking space ships and other things of the like
seems the word gets used pretty loosly sometimes 🤔
It can be various things
halo is fun
and the loosly used parts is why i said google wont help you
smiffe linked a pretty good definition tho
I wouldn't know the diffrence between Castle, Keep and Citadel unless I really googled each of them 😄
a castle is a type of fortified structure, a keep is the centerpiece of a castle and a citadel is just that: the centerpiece of a cities defenses (usually a castle or fortress)
The keep is the royal family's home I think
nah, the keep is just to the castle what the citadel is to a cities defenses
I partly disagree. For something to be considered a keep, I would require it to
- Be a residence.
- It (along with the residents) should be one of, if not the primary thing the castle is meant to defend.
So in a way the roles are reversed from what you say. Since the city at large isn't there to defend the citadel.
Citadels offer protection to the surrounding area.
Keeps are protected by the surrounding area.
citadels dont really offer protection to the surrounding area
by the time it gets relevant said surrounding area is likely already wrecked
they are a last ditch effort to prevent the enemy from completely taking over the city, thus binding ridiculous amounts of resources from an invading army
its functions naturally slightly differ slightly from a keep by virtue of their size
a small citadel is a castle, a large one a fortress of its own
Well yes, the summary in the second message is simplified to the point of being interpretable in that admittedly incorrect way. It doesn't really protect the area itself as much as the people and resources housed.
Again, the main point is that the rest of the castle is there to make the keep safer, and the citadel is there to make the rest of the city safer.
Your last sentence is also highly questionable to me. I would argue that both citadels and castles are fortresses classified by their purpose.
ChatGPT:
The terms keep, castle, and citadel all refer to fortifications, but they have distinct meanings based on structure, purpose, and historical context:
Keep:
A keep is the fortified tower or main stronghold within a castle. It was usually the most defensible part of the castle and served as a final refuge if the rest of the castle was overtaken.
Keeps were often multi-storied structures where the lord and his family lived. Early keeps were square or rectangular, but later designs could be round or polygonal to better withstand attacks.
Example: The White Tower of the Tower of London is a classic example of a Norman keep.
Castle:
A castle is a larger, fortified residence or complex, built primarily for defense and as a display of power. Castles could include multiple defensive structures, such as walls, towers, gates, and moats.
Castles were centers of control for the surrounding land and often housed nobles and their garrisons. Unlike a simple keep, a castle is a broader complex that might include outer walls (curtains), courtyards, barracks, and various other defensive and residential structures.
Example: Windsor Castle in England is one of the largest and oldest inhabited castles in the world.
Citadel:
A citadel is a fortress or stronghold, typically located within or near a city. Its primary purpose is to protect the city and serve as a base for military control.
Citadels were designed to control the population and defend against attacks, often serving as the last line of defense. They can be standalone structures or part of a larger fortification system, and they may not always have the residential functions that castles often do.
Example: The Citadel of Cairo, Egypt, served as a military stronghold and government center.
In summary, a keep is the central stronghold of a castle, while a citadel is a fortified military center, often separate from residential purposes, and intended to protect a city or region.
This seemes largely correct, yes.
It should ne noted though, that a castle could consist entirely of its keep, and still qualify.
using Eikthyr summoning circle as a workshop base
My current abode. Built in survival, using a pine tree as foundation. Now that it is structurally complete, I can move on and kill some bosses and unlock later stuff to make it more pretty. Turned out better than I had hoped even. 🙂
Thats a nice build
Twin peaks castle
Iron Man Hall of Armor
This pleases the gods. It's beautiful! I'd love to see what you do when you have access to wood+iron beams!
How did you get the symbols on the signs? 🙂
Spectacular! How long did it take you to build that?
<size=10><#f35725>🌋
oh that's right it just uses HTML coding...nice
I'm not sure exactly, spent the last few days on it, maybe 15 hours?
well you should be proud of it! Good job, man! It's lovely! I'm actually doing a proof of concept before I do a YT build series. Always looking for ideas!
Glad you like it. Love this game! Always fun looking at what others have built.
gimme 10 min, and I'll get some screenies of my mistlands base, which I ended up making into the Lair of the Seiðmaðr once I discovered how much fun magic is in this game hehe. I don't want to talk about how much iron and tar I had to use in it hahaha
Absolutely!
