Finally did it! Beating the game without a single death on a new world with a new character has been my goal for a while. Without any mod and using standard settings except fire hazard since the Ashlands (Yes, I have been trying for a very long time with an attempt every so often).

I'd say it was about the 10th attempt, which notably ended after I got slapped off a mountain by a golem, got mauled by a pack of wolf chasing me in the plains, got burned to ashes by a shaman while wearing a tree, got surprised by friendly gjalls and died about 5 minutes after thinking I would give magic a try.

But this time I took my sweet time, made sure to always eat the best food available, to grind for the best armor before moving on to the next biome and built good defenses at my final base in the plain and paired it with a group of loxes to defend it. Everything went as planned and there was not even any close calls.

The ashlands had me a bit worried but I had not entered it since the last few updates and honestly it is now pretty easy and I was very sad to see the spires no longer sink. I spent more time than I wanted in the ashlands since after 4 fortresses I still had no iolite for a weapon so I raided a couple more with no luck so I settled for the nature sword.

And finally, on day 90, after about 40 hours spent on this world I was able to finish the last boss! So, what's next?

Not my first time around this place, if I had one tip to give to people to be more efficient is to take the time to decide where you want to build to avoid a lot of unnecessary travel and sailing and to build the final base pretty far out of the map in the plains for easy blackmetal and to be close to the mistlands. we had made a base at the edge of pre-loaded ashlands. When ashlands dropped the earth fell down everywhere, but the rocks stayed. Part of our base was built on a rock 😄 So then the mission became to make a walking bridge to that base. (Quite the project..needs a lot of wood and dont you dare fall down) Once we got that, the next question became, can we reach ashlands. We sort of gave up, but then we found a line of rocks going a little closer. Im now on the last of those rocks, at the furthest that iron wood can get me. I think if I manage to build with ironwood starting from the spike I should be able to close the gap...

The project also started because our 3rd player hasnt been able to be online with us, and we want to do our first landing on ashlands with all 3 together.

One full ship, and one and a half carts of iron, and it still wasn't enough. I also don't recommend doing this. At full sail WITH the wind, I couldn't out-sail a sea serpent. You also need to stay close to shore so waves have less of a chance at capsizing you.

i think both ideas have merit, i hadn't thought of putting weapons by biome, i use most of my old weapons as props for workshops and in some cases to enhance lighting around thrones , beds and other points of interest definately given me food for thought though thank you 🙂

Basically i separated them cause , 1st of all i used that wall only for those weapon what i did use at this current world by this current character, just for fast switch, 2ndary before i rebuild that entire house i have the same size wall - but just for all ( old weapon - if we actually can call em like that ) and it was fully loaded. SO. Another words - there is just left no room for a new gear 😅 .
Even counting that fact that - new weapon looks SICK at the big wall 😅

Yes. that is why I suggested the way I did. Higher lighting is better for larger spaces. Lower lighting is better for smaller spaces.

@placid sierra When I started making the larger chests, I would post a portal outside a crypt. I went easy on myself and allowed items to transfer through them. If you do that, you can carry scrap Iron back to your base to use it for building. It takes a little time, but honestly, it was worth the trouble.

Since some build faster then others and the quick ones get boored cuz they don't wanna go into the deep part of building.. i gave them an example how you truly can use your fantasy in valheim when it comes to building.

100 is really hard to get on most skills, aside from running and jumping the others take time to go out and actually train them if you want to ever be close to 100

im about 500 days into my world and i still have a very long way to go on most skills ( i have died about 20 times but id still be very far on most of them, maybe only run and jump and pickaxes would be 100 if i had never died )

My normal server has been rough. I've died probably eight times... Not from monsters either. hey all, i found a nice way to stay entertained while getting your blood magic up, I went to the swamp and found one of those cropse piles, 3 infact, then built a wall around them and burried the piles with a hoe. then started summoning skellies and using the shield staff on them, its a massive melee brawl between the skellies and the undead, i've gone up 15 levels in 30 min or so; as soon as the shield pops you use the staff and it gives you exp and as long as the skellies are hiting stuff you also get exp, plus super entertaining!

Simple but effective sun dial. Mid day is marked because more granular time keeping isn't particularly useful information.

I can see a sundial being particularly useful if you set the map to sadist mode turning off the minimap and all that jazz. Which I may do some time to challange myself and test my game knowlage

Tricky part would be oriantating north without a mini map, but Yggdrasil is always east to west and by following the natral shadows you could work out north and place the dial. Wich incidently would double as a compass.

In most places, we know the temperature is positive or nearly positive even at night, because it can rain. A proper bed shielded from rain and wind shouldn't really need an external heat source.

I also think Valheim looks significantly warmer than 0°C. I would put it in the mid 10s.
This also makes sense if you look at the day length and the prominence of beeches.

For some it is for others it isn't.
On my first playtrough I had pins for almost everything, from clusters of 4+ shrooms, berries and the like, every copper I found, every dungeon, every little thing that I might need.

Latest playtrough I had only markers for my bases and portals and used a bunch of temporary markers, to mark which dungeon I was doing or where I parked a boat.
I made portal chains for berries and fuling spawners. Mined 2 copper nodes and didn't care about the rest, same with silver just got enough veins to get the minimum needed and if I found other veins I didn't mark them anymore.
I was more methodical in scouting new areas and if I missed anything so be it.

Dragon eggs are way bigger and can't really do anything with it except summon a boss or use as decoration.
Put that egg under a roof and near a fire and wait till it hatches, though make sure the chick can't get into the fire else it will suicide.

how do you know how tall a mountain can be?

by the shape of it and its island on the map.
island shapes aren't completely random, your world is randomly placed on a 42x42 kilometer area of available island shapes. while mid land biomes like swamp, meadows, black forest, mistlands and plains are then somewhat randomly sprinkled on top, the extremes of height-dependent biomes like ocean and mountain will always be the same depending on where on this area you are.
there are some exceptions, but it's pretty reliable.

once i figured out that pattern to worldgen, i went and catalogued the average heights of almost all mountains, in search of the top 3

I remember this world, I had to sail for so many hours, exploring plains after plains all over the map, trying to find one of the vegvisir. I finally came upon this stonehenge with a vegvisir, in a tiny plain on the far north-east of the map right on the edge of mistlands. Only for that vegvisir to turn my camera slighly to the left where I could see the actual summoning altar, it left scars!

It took me Many hours exploring every inch of plains there is and then when I decided to go down Southwest-ish I found the Vegvisir, HOWEVER, the Yagluth's Altar that it showed was in the NEXT island to the right of the Elder's Altar, like a few minutes away to east...

I beg to differ… on one of my favorite playthroughs, I had visited maybe 15 stonehenges and leveled maybe 2-3 dozen fuling villages before I got a Vegvesir… which bugged, the altar never spawned!

I also did fun things like not growing barley or flax and instead turning it to goblin raid fuel to procure more crops. you know, like a Viking!

That absolutely happens. Water changes temperature much slower than the ground, so snow can land and stay on ground long before a lake would freeze. Rivers and sea freeze even later, because the water is moving too much.
