@nimble pebble make this a no u note
Einmal bitte hier einen Emote raus machen, danke.
Emoji that have text are usually unreadable when scaled down and are therefore not accepted for voting.
What about turning it into a sticker?
@fathom vector 🤔
@fathom vector do I still get feedback?
Oh I missed this. I suppose it can go up for voting as a sticker.
Would be very cool, thanks 😄

Wdym?
See the emote guidelines pinned in #archived-emote-suggestions
I don’t see any guidelines that it violates?
Needs to be properly cropped
I just tested it out on my personal server and it seems to look fine
Does it need to be a square, or…?

hey, I thought that I'd try writing a faq article about the meaning of Freund/Freundin. It's not quite finished yet. I'd appreciate any criticism or mistakes you can point out, as well as further examples.
Freund/Freundin
What does Freund/Freundin mean?
Does it mean "friend", "boyfriend/girlfriend" or both?
Answer: it can mean both, although the meaning depends on the context in which the word is used. There are, however, a few commonly used ways to make its meaning clearer:
ein Freund/eine Freundin (von mir) - a friend (of mine) = one of many
In most cases it's clear that it refers to a friend and not a partner
examples:
Eine Freundin von mir ist Ingenieurin. - A friend of mine is an engineer
Ich habe einen Freund getroffen - I met a friend
but: Sie hat einen Freund
mein Freund/meine Freundin - my friend or my boyfriend/girlfriend
In this case it's a bit more ambiguous, so you have to refer to the context of the sentence
examples:
Meine Freundin ist endlich zu mir gezogen. Wir sind seit einem Jahr zusammen.
My girlfriend finally moved in with me. We've been together for a year.
In the above case it's clear that Freundin means girlfriend
example in which the context makes it clear that it means "friend"
fester Freund/feste Freundin
In this case it's clear that it's referring to a partner and not a friend
examples:
since I'm a bit tired right now I will try finishing it tomorrow
I would add an example with just "ein Freund", without "von mir" but in the same section. See Aldi's message #general message
And maybe use "meine" in the example. It could confuse beginners?
maybe you are right, I'm not sure if a beginner asking that question would have knowledge of possessive articles
I put the von mir part in parentheses to show that it's optional, but that it's commonly used for emphasis
@woeful light i read it briefly but I think it would be useful to also mention the difference meaning of Freund and Bekannte (since it's not the same as in english)
doesn't Bekannte/r just mean acquaintance?
yes, but in English you'd just use a word friend in most instances / the distinction isn't so clear
could you give me a few examples?
I also just realised that "ein Freund/eine Freundin" could still be ambiguous
"Sie hat einen Freund"
well, this is mainly social media where you're friended with people and have your friend list even though in german they would simply be your Bekannte
do you want to say that in English one would refer to their social media friends as "friends", whereas in German they would say "Bekannte/r"?
wouldn't they just say "Freund"?
i'm saying it's worth to note the difference that in English word friend can be used more freely while in German it actually means a person you know well and/or have a deeper connection with
however it might be irrelevant for friend/boyfriend thingy you're explaining idk
you decide
you can write about that yourself and then it could be added as a second page or even as a separate article
If I find time (I have Zeitmangel these days)
it also sounds interesting, sadly I don't have any irl German friends to confirm it 😔
it's almost bedtime, so I will have another look at it tomorrow

As someone (thanks hecke) reminded me that I didn't post the emotes / stickers that got added last round via #archived-emote-suggestions, I'll just post them here now and repost them in that channel when the current round ends
Soo, the following got added:

Has any one here acquired the German Citizenship, or know someone here who has? Mainly asking because I am interested in doing that myself and have some questions that I hope someone can answer.
Hallo leute !!
There's that website, make-it-in-germany.com or whatever, I would start there; lots of great information.
@vagrant python?
Hi
Guten tag
guten tag
Hallo. Also ich grüße euch 🙂
@crimson basin Sei gegrüßt
Du trinkst ein Bier. (you → one person)
Ihr trinkt ein Bier. (you → group of people)
@neat dragon I am confused about how one is plural
ihr in this case
I simply can not wrap my head around how : you are drinking a beer to signify a group of people
yesss, the usage in English might be a bit wonky, especially with this example
what you should focus on is not the English part but understand the concept in German, that there is a distinction between "du" and "ihr"
(unless your native language is not english and you already have this distinction in it)
and if you really wanna wrap your head around this, simply add something like that "you guys are drinking a beer"
ohhhh thats really good
its like du is pertaining to talking to your brother and ihr talking to both ur brother and sister asking them the same question/statement
yup
thank you
Best tak
another example (du and ihr in dative case)
wie geht's dir - how are you, asking one person,
wie geht's euch - how are you, addressing a group of people
was machst du? - what are you doing (one person)
was macht ihr? - what are y'all doing? (group)
yeah im still learning the cases, do you know if the resources have a section covering the cases?
I'm glad someone's actually readying my presentations
It all paid off
@nimble pebble

Hello I have a couple questions for people who live in Germany on here
shoot
I'm taking a trip to Germany this spring break with my former German / government teacher to Germany with some of his other old students to celebrate this retirement. He used to work in teufelsburg and spent 3 years of his life impersonating being a native German. I was wondering if there were any obscure places you guys would recommend us to visit that will give him a new experience and aren't too difficult for a older man to do (so like no super long distance runs or things like that but a lot of walking / hiking is okay). He has mainly been to west Germany (Bavaria and west Berlin)
Really Depends on what you want to do. Berlin and Heidelberg are somewhat save options i would think.
hi! #archived-culture-study-visa is the perfect place for such questions, this is a channel for feedback and discussions regarding the server
@fathom vector @nimble pebble I had an idea for a writing task (inspired by Bulli): The Native Ticket Challenge
.
Basically, you give people the same task as you would in a native ticket, explaining how it works and what rules to follow.
I'm asking you because Bottfried is needed in order to generate the words (you can just make him post the challenge on a regular basis or a person could do it if that would motivate learners more).
Possible, but would probably require additional work. Our current word pool is a bit limited because we're working under the assumption that any single person will just do one ticket anyway.
soo, is that a yes?
No it's just an "it's technically possible", I can't singlehandedly approve or reject anything.
But in general, if there's community interest for something then we'll tend to cater to it.
However, what worries me a bit is that writing tasks are incredibly unpopular. We used to have monthly prompts which most people just ignored (admittedly we were a lot smaller back then). Then later @vagrant python picked up monthly writing prompts again, though I'm unsure how that went and how many people did them?
So my advice would probably be to bring it up in curators and see what everyone else thinks. We could probably try doing a quick and dirty semi-automated trial a few times and then seeing if it's worth investing additional effort into.

Basically it's too much to make a channel for every single possible channel size. We can't have one for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc. It's too many. So we chose 2, 4, and 6.
But if you want to make suggestions, please use #suggestions .
It's fine to give feedback for new server features in #community-discussion but for bringing up a new suggestion, you would use #suggestions .
The main problem is that we prefer that people don't go into #1025098221653073940 with broad, vague ideas of topics to talk about. We expect people to come with a clear topic to discuss and to discuss it seriously. So it doesn't really make sense to have a general thread for any topics there. Each thread will typically be a unique and specific topic. However, we will see how the channel is used in the next weeks or so, and we can make adjustments depending on what we feel needs to be changed.

bruh it would be better to have a channel

for questions and all
cause it was quicker
and people were continuously discussing there
smh
What's wrong with asking your question in a specified thread that you can customise yourself?
There are still two basic text channels for questions: #questions and #questions-2 . Which channel are you referring to exactly that you think a forum doesn't work for?
For sensitive topics? No, it has to be #1025098221653073940 . You can get the role in #850404908946423828 .
idk seems confusing

It's a pretty big .png file, so if you download/open it in browser, it should be fine. But we can also provide an .svg (which you can also download and open with your browser.)
And thank you all for your feedback, it's lovely to hear from everyone.

There is unfortunately no right answer to this question. Some universities require a specific background and some are more lenient when it comes to it. It's best if you go to university's website to read about and/or contact Studentabteilung.
I find that the German universities tend to lean towards Specialization, once you have made progress in that field it is very hard to switch to a new field especially at a higher level. The new field would need to be closely related to your old one, with many transferable skills/knowledge. Even then, you would most likely need to start from a much earlier stage and make your way back up to your old level in the other field.
Not 100% based on facts or written information, just general information from conversations with my roomates and other students at my university
but brother visiting to all those universities sites will take a lot of time n i dont have that much...... and what about that student help line?
Its a lot of time but it will leave you incredibly informed. There is unfortunately no better way, nor tool or app or gadget that will get you the information you need as precisely.
Think of it as the investment you gotta make to do what you want to do in the future
makes sense brother....
lets go for the same approach then
Hi, this is the wrong channel for asking about uni stuff. Please use #1033125270217048246 for that.
okay alright will do that to
That's a wonderful decision
I've been waiting for this channel for forever
My bad, you don’t have to tag Bulli for it~ now he hates me
Hello guys, does this server have like weekly reading lessons or something similar to it, where we are in a voice chat and getting corrected?
Heyy , I was reading about it and it said to have a talk in community-discussion if you want to suggest or look up new lesson. Hence I commented here.
Yes, but not weekly specifically. When a host decides to run a lesson, they will announce it in #lesson-announcements and you can also see it in the Events tab. Reading lessons are the most common type. But hosts decide their own schedules since they are all volunteers.
I see it. Thank you very much 😃
I'm not sure if they really have a wide appeal to the community in any way (there are guidelines that you can find in the pinned messages of #archived-emote-suggestions)
Also: es kommt darauf an, wen du wo triffst
@timid umbra
Can confirm. I've spoken to dear friend great user valued member amazing person fantastic chef fantastic programmer rabaukensahne and to @nimble pebble, and I could definitely understand one of them without any issues.
Oof, I was reading this seeing my ping and all these nice attributes and was like 'woah, what the hell' and then eww
and now I'm wondering if this was your plan all along
Lmfaoooo yes. 😍

Does anyone have any information regarding summer intensivkurse in Germany?
courses are very different as they're offered by a variety of languages schools, it's best to google for "cityname deutsch intensivkurs" or something to get results
also, the proper channel to ask such questions would be #1033125270217048246
Oh, perfect! Thank you so much:)
Also i thought here would of been alright since i thought this was a German community discussion
Ja..
Oh
was mich sehr traurig macht*

If you are unsure which channel is meant for which content, feel free to read #channel-directory
No, this is not a German community discussion. This is a server community discussion. It's a place for sharing your ideas and feedback on community-managed server projects/changes.
Can we have more #thing-of-the-day ? I really like it.
Done
I think a channel where non-native speakers can ask for explaination for German Memes would fit great in.
Hey, it's great that you're contributing to it and please consider doing so in the future as well. However, what makes you think that the word you explained there is an actual thing?
I'd call it a German Insider and it was the first thing that slid into my mind.
I thought it would be funny to share this insider as my first contribution to the channel.
The use of it in schoolish context, is not commonplace but it's not too rare either.
And when I came across an article or two about this word (e.g: https://www.sprachnudel.de/woerterbuch/Turnbeutelvergesser) on the Internet, I thought I'd just go for it. Of course, in a way it is meant jokingly and in the future I will deal with contributions a little more seriously. I hope you can turn a blind eye to this one time.
Alright
Apart from that I really didn't find anything at all and they don't list a source or tell what made them include that word. I don't find it on dwds or duden and also no real useage in any corpus at all, so maybe mention the source in it (you can use <> to hide the embed) which should happen anyways when something is fully taken away from somewhere else and mention that it's not really used to your knowledge as we don't wanna spread misinformation, then it's fine for now
That it's meant jokingly is not the issue. I do find it potentially funny as well, just not really 'existent enough' if that makes sense
@flat estuary
Yes, indeed it does make sense.
Shall I delete the post or should I just somehow mark that it's neither a part of Hochdeutsch nor of Standard German :o?
It basically existent, it's just if at all only in the school in use, but I've asked around a bit and in NRW and border area of Niedersachen it was known. Can also be that it is simply a NRW thing, if so this is of course my mistake. As I said, it was meant as my first contribution rather jokingly and the following contributions will be more factual.

Idk if a few people saying it exists really changes anything as long as no one says they seriously use it (prior to that question and it should also be found in real sentences / texts, not only one specific site that says that calls itself a dictionary. It's also relevant how you ask and how existence is defined first as obviously every native speaker is able to make compound words as that a general feature of the German language.
Also I wonder: did they say it exists? did they say they understand it? Did they say that it means 'Weichei'? (without that being suggested in the question)
Tbh I'd be surprised if it's yes to anything but the first question.
Regarding how it should be changed:
In case you don't like that phrasing you can suggest an alternative one
That's the point why I'm surprised. The "Does it actually get user thint" got confirmed way more often than I thought. It not I wouldn't used that as an argument xd
You can't confirm it like that cause you can'r just ask people that way or rather if it was used that there should be other ways to confirm it aside from people telling you thta they supposedly think it's used. In the whole server history I find exactly one useage of it that is not related to your entry in #thing-of-the-day. Outside of that I find that specific thing you linked and some site that decided to call an exercise that way.
Do you know the word Tohuwabohu?
I assume you don't, but look how many occurrences I find for that word and I assume you agree with that word barely being used and that most people will tell you that they've never heard it
Compared to that results for this are almost non-existent
And this should certainly be reflected in some way in your post in #thing-of-the-day
No ping needed, but no worries. Just make clear that it's an emote suggestion and post it here. I don't think it adheres to our guidelines though as it's neither quadratic nor does it appeal to a large userbase
Alr
Hi server, can the Germans/people who reside in Germany tell me what they know about the University of Potsdam? How is its reputation and general standing in public opinion?
Okay!
Can we create a Roll which has the title Community Volunteer/Helper, because the other people know then, that they are actively support other people in the german language. In speaking, writing or giving lessons on discord, to separate the Native helpers who are helping and natives which are hanging out in the discord.
Might be a good idea?
Feel free to suggest this in #suggestions
I would like to propose three new emojis for the server.
They are made from SSIO, a famous german Hip Hop artist many have come to love and treasure. Therefore, to make expressing themselves even easier for the users while indulging in an detailed acquainted visual appearance.
The idea was funded by @soft kite and me. I edited and cut the pictures, from public advertising material and official music videos of the artist.
These are the three emojis:
not sure if that background is transparent now or not, I can adjust as needed though.
Neither transparent nor quadratic
ui I'll remake, just saw. Might take a bit of time tho.

Sure, take your time~

Super Sache, coolio!

Idk if there are any Munich people here
But if so or if you can reference to me
Google told me Munich is diverse and has a lot of black people along with Berlin
So i would like to know how accepting are the people there
I see videos of people living in Germany and this whole vid they said they get treated normally and no bad moments what so ever even for years of living but in other documentaries they say they have experience harsh racism
So i just want to know where I would most fit in or be alright besides Berlin haha
But that vid was 5 yrs ago with the bad stuff. I assume much has changed since
woher kommst du?
In Germany there are some places where alot of people are againt diversity
but most of the german people are fine with diversity (or not against it)
@timid umbra @alpine dock @vagrant ore This is the wrong channel for that. Please make sure to use channels appropriately. For discussions about experiences with racism, #1025098221653073940 is most suitable. For questions about cities in Germany and what it's like to live there, #1033125270217048246 is most suitable.
Wait so community discussion isn't even used to talk about the community of Germany city wise ||(I'm not talking about the racism part)||
see the channel description above or in #channel-directory
am i the only one who has encountered misogyny and racism the moment i joined a vc?

@dusty oriole do you have any aliases (short names) for this FAQ you'd like to use?
"info" is one I can think of
Yep I thought about that one too
faq alias "Looking for information" info
FAQ alias info corresponding to Looking for information successfully created.
Maybe something along the lines of "right place to ask questions"
Do you mean that as the title or as an alias? The reason I didn't use "questions" is because #1065443550004781067 is also mentioned, but I can add that as an alias.
Or just "questions" since being short is the purpose of an alias.
I can also make changes to the article if you have any feedback
I meant the title but I suppose we can use it as an alias too (it's too long tho
)
I've seen people ask about where they should ask a specific question and are a little confused and having all of the channels with the purpose of helping with answers could be beneficial
Sure, can I have till tomorrow morning
Yep, you can make suggestions any time.
Danke danke
What should be the word count? Can I make it longer and add more details or is it preferred short
This sounds like you're dying. Harold nooooo.
I am, I have a sore throat and fever
Since it's formatted as it is, I think the limit is 6k characters, but keep in mind that people are terrible and won't read anything, so generally, the shorter the better.
Short is preferred because people might be deterred from an article that's too long
Oh no it's 4k.
Got it
I'll try my best to give something tomorrow morning if I can come up with something good
Also no why are you dying Harold noooo gute Besserung
Oh nooooo.
Drug yourself with honey.
The cheesecake gods found out that I rebelled against giving my daily cake taxes and have now eternally doomed me
Oooo drugs
I realized I could also add #writing to the list
I had it in mind but forgot about it
remind 12h this
Okay @woeful light. You will be reminded in 12 hours.
I was thinking about the same thing
Should we also add #pronunciation , I've seen a few people ask how to pronounce words and sounds in #questions
Hmmm, that's much rarer and I wouldn't want to add too much info to the article.
If it gets asked enough we could add it though. I'll have a look now at how often that gets asked.
Got it
Do we have a FAQ revolving around the general channels (beginner German, German only, dialects, general, general 2)
hmm, what should it be about?
One question that gets asked often is "Why is everyone speaking English here?", so I'll write an article about that as well.
Some people ask if #general is somewhere they could speak German in or that if they could, and also why is no one speaking german
So they get directed to #german-only
Okay yeah, that could be put in the same article
oop, meant to reply to you
Maybe we can write a brief FAQ on where to speak what
(general is used to converse in both English and German)
(German only is a channel where only speaking German is encouraged )
(beginner German is a place where beginners practice. Speaking both English and German is allowed)
Hi hi, maybe try using >play "insert song name" in #botchannel
Hmm, title, formatting and layout are up to change, but let's see
Language usage in the conversation channels
By default, only German and English are allowed on the server! If you want to speak another language, you can do so in #other-languages or #languages.
There are also other channels with their own rules and guidelines:
#general and #general-2 - both English and German are allowed here.
English is more commonly spoken there because it's easier for learners and because they might want to socialize in a low-stress environment, among other reasons.
#german-only - As the name suggests, only German is allowed here. Perfect for practicing and challenging yourself!
#beginner-german - This is a channel where beginners can practice and where everyone should try their best to keep their German beginner-friendly. English should be limited as much as possible and only used for explanations when German doesn't work out.
I like it!
Maybe we should also try writing about other languages and languages
ah yes
I feel bad that I'm making you write everything I'm so sorry
You are not "making" me do it.
In the end it's best for the server and for the people answering the questions if there is a quick way to access this information.
I think I'll make a separate FAQ for other languages
but then I'll have to rethink the name of the other FAQ article
since if it's the last point and you link it to someone speaking another language, they'll see a wall of irrelevant text and miss the important point. Or alternatively they could see that only German and English are allowed in #general.
🤔
True, maybe something along the lines of "speaking german"?
or I could add a comment at the top saying that German and English are the only allowed languages by default, with the other channels listed as exceptions
That could also work
The thing is, we are writing the same things in #channel-directory
Ja, but people don't read the channels when you tell them to and are like "uhhh I read it but I didn't see anything"
Are there any faqs that I could help with? I can try to write some if you'd like
Alternatively we could make #channel-directory or >purpose a bit more detailed
yeah, I think making some changes to >purpose will be better
Yep, lack of details or clarification could also be the reason people ask about channels or just overall
help purpose

Hmmm, so how about:
Separate FAQ articles for:
- why is everyone speaking English in #general
- other languages
and then see how the current >purpose channel info looks like
purpose #general
General banter can go here. Please refer to #info if you're unsure.
purpose #general-2
This channel is intended as a less strict version of #german-only. In other words, you may speak English here, but you are encouraged to speak in German, and only use English when you, for example, need to explain grammar concepts
This channel can also be used if #general is getting too busy and you want to continue a conversation with someone here.
purpose #german-only
🇩🇪 :flag_at: :flag_ch: :flag_be: :flag_lu: :flag_li: Please only talk in German here. :)
purpose #beginner-german
Everyone is welcome to chat here but try to keep your German beginner-friendly. You may use English to explain questions related to language learning but please try to keep it to a minimum.
Other languages
By default only German and English are allowed on the server unless specified otherwise!
If you want to speak other languages, you can use #other-languages or #languages.
#general-2 so needs to be rewritten lmfao. Literally nobody uses it like that anymore.
How about "general banter and conversations are preferred here, usage of both English and German is permitted. Feel free to refer to #info if you're unsure"
We could also add about keeping chat SFW and to also refer to rules
general banter and conversations are preferred here,
Why the "preferred"?
I don't know, I just added it
Ok, I want to go now, but what do you think about this?
@fathom vector
it's pretty simple
+1. Maybe also explicitly forbid other languages in VC there? Idk if we want to include the "study group with only your friends" exception or not.
I'd rather not.
It's not something I'd encourage, but I also don't see much reason in enforcing the rule.
Other languages
By default only German and English are allowed on the server, including in voice channels, unless specified otherwise!
If you want to speak other languages, you can use #other-languages or #languages.

cool
Very nice
I also want to have a look at >purpose sometime
Ja, I don't know what exactly I don't like about it, but something like "This channel is mostly intended for general banter and conversations" feels more correct I guess. Since that's kinda the primary purpose.
I also want to make an FAQ for "Why is everyone speaking English in #general" since that's a question that annoys me.
I'll write a draft and I'd like your feedback
Now that I think about it, that sounds way better
Maybe we can do a follow up with other main channels. People mostly ask why people are speaking in English and not German so we could fit both the German channels too
Lmaoooooo good question.
Q: Why is everyone speaking in #general
A: People can speak wherever tf they like.
oh my god lmao
Also, explain this:
purpose #other-languages
For languages other than German or English. Turkish, Japanese and Swedish seem to be popular. Arrem can speak whatever he wants though.
Now I know how we moderate the channel. 😍
We should probably install every language in our brains to make moderating it easier
Gute Idee. Then everyone will know German and we can delete the server.
i mean its not that hard to few languages
but it should start from a very young age
its like a project
But if we delete the server where will we make fun of ranch and annoy broob with
The French server. Because even after we install all langauges in everyone's brains, they're just gonna forget French in like a week anyway.
i can agree on this
Soooooo true
i studied french for like 12 years i didnt do it for 1 year and now i cant talk well french
This is why everyone should learn Italian instead
Why is everyone speaking English in #general?
In short, because both English and German are allowed here, and because people might prefer speaking English for a variety of reasons.
If you want to stick to German, you can go to #german-only or #beginner-german instead.
@fathom vector sound of annoying
What should its aliases be, speaking English in general?
naah tbh if i had to choose back then i wouldve chosen chinese
"why english". It doesn't have to make grammatical sense, just contain the important keywords

is this like a berufsschule for the moderators ?
Not quite, its a place where the GLaD community can come together and give feedback and suggestions to help improve the server
maybe do Languages in #general or something like this and give it an alias
I don't remember the rules off the top of my head but I think aliases are more generous regarding the character count
Tbh I don't know why we even have a 40 character limit, there isn't a technical reason for it.

@woeful light @fathom vector ello ello, i tried to add something and evaluate the faq a bit more , is this alright
(I sort of wrote it long so we could go over all the possible things we can say and then select which ever sentence and form the faq
)
@woeful light, 12 hours ago
You asked to be reminded about "this"
[Jump to message](#community-discussion message)
Ello ello. Looks very cute, we can definitely make it work.
We don't really have a dedicated channel for it and I thought, eh, why not. Maybe other GLaD members might be interested in seeing the process and get motivated to contribute something themselves.
It's definitely been interesting reading this whole thing
Maybe add something about people talking in #resources when they shouldn't really? Idk
Why shouldn't they? Currently the way #resources works is that you can freely use it to discuss or request resources.
Oh
Oopsies
I meant that sometimes people chat randomly in there but I might have gotten it mixed up with a different channel
True, that happens everywhere and it's not allowed, but the people who do it don't care/read/think.
Yeah that's true
If you notice it though, feel free to ping mods to clean it up.
Ok sounds good
submission by @woeful light, i suggest the name: mewhenmarmaruri
okay mod abusing it in
pog

I thought it'd be bot testing fr
Note that he's working together with aleah.
Ello ello thanks for your contribution
@dusty oriole
@cosmic wigeon This is the dedicated channel for this stuff.
Tried to make >faq faq less memey and more up-to-date
Q: What does FAQ mean?
A: Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: How does it relate to this server?
A: You can invoke answers to FAQs regarding German grammar or the geography and culture of German-speaking countries, as well other topics related to the server.
Q: How do I invoke these answers?

Example: >faq beginner
Q: Where do I invoke the answers?
A: Please use #botchannel for the FAQs.
Q: I can’t find an answer to my question.
A: Use >faq <topic name> and the results will either show you related searches, or automatically add your questions to our suggestion list. Alternatively you can suggest an article in #community-discussion or write one yourself!
Q: I want to write an FAQ entry, how do I do it?
A: Try writing something in the same style as other FAQs and bring it up in #community-discussion.
Q: I found some mistakes/typos in an FAQ entry, where do I report them?
A: You can bring them up in #community-discussion.
Q: I don’t understand some parts of an FAQ entry.
A: If it's German-related you can ask in #942470380692590632 and if it's server-related you can ask in #community-discussion.
@fathom vector @gaunt bridge
Going by the bot's conventions, it should be >faq <faq name> since it's a required parameter and not optional. Though I don't care much, it's not super consistent and I'm the only one who knows that convention anyway.
But what I would like is a small example, since no matter what you write, you get people writing >faq [beginner].
(additionally >ex or >explain instead of >faq)
``
A: You can bring them up in community-discussion
Period at the end bitte for consistency.
Oh okay

FAQs regarding German grammar or the geography and culture of German-speaking countries, as well other topics related to the server.
I don't really get the geography part. Can we do this instead?
"FAQs regarding German grammar, vocabulary, the culture of German-speaking countries, and some topics specifically related to this server."
invoke
I think instead of invoke we should simplify it to "how do I use this command?" or something. For the second question: "You can use a command to read FAQs and their answers regarding ..."
Maybe for the last question add that people are also welcome to use #report-issue .
Ja, I didn't make big changes, just removed some stuff that seemed irrelevant or not up-to-date.
I will add those.

no, Bulli should be pinged so he can read you a bedtime story instead
Looks good. Maybe change the last line to "You are also welcome to use #report-issue to contact mods privately."
Just sounds a bit more complete.
Yeah, I thought about adding something as well

hi, I am not really sure where to put this question but I am not allowed to make posts on the 'find study partners' thing. There's nothing really explaining why? this isn't super important I'm just a little confused:)
Hi, sorry about that, but we have turned off the permissions for people to make their own post in #1065443550004781067 , after feedback from the community. The current threads should cover pretty much all needs that people have, but if you think something isn't covered, please feel free to suggest another thread that we should add.
Ahhh right! Ok, thanks for clearing that up:)
add these things
Well, we can't add them that way. You'll have to submit images that we can put up for voting. The pinned messages in #archived-emote-suggestions explain how that works and which guidelines you should follow.
Hello! I'm an A1 German learner who wants to practice saying "Woher kommst du?" to someone on a vc with responce. DM me if interested in helping!
Also may be wrong channel
sorry
@gentle venture Yep, it's the wrong channel.
Which channel?
Also my apologies
#general or #general-2 are best for spontaneously inviting people to VC with you. If you want to arrange something a bit more planned, try making a study group with #1103951772281741322 .
Kk, thanks!!
I have a small suggestion, maybe when directing people to where they can get their A B or C role, maybe somehow send them directly to the Customize page? Cause right now the path is #get-roles > Browse Channels and then selecting Customize at the top and then scrolling down. I think this could be confusing for some people but I also realize that people could just read and scroll and figure it out
Idk just had the idea in my head
Oh wait nvm
Directing people where?
I see the customize role thing at the top of the channel list
Nvm I was just thinking of a way to link people directly to the role selection feature
But now I see the channels and roles and that takes you there directly
Yeah. I don't know if there's a way to link to that directly.
@hearty canyon Don't forget though that if you want to make suggestions to the mod team, you generally should use #suggestions . This channel is rather for either feedback, community project ideas, or suggestions not directed at mods.
Can the study task be about any place or just a specific place?
Are you asking about the task posted by @lime nymph ?
It can be about any place where do you have much information about it.
yes he was asking about.
Hey
help me
is idiom?
hey hey, maybe try checking out #942470380692590632 or #questions and ask there, since that's the appropriate channel suited for your question I'm sure someone would be able to help you out and you'll find it easier to have better replies that way since there's a chance of you going unanswered here. Happy learning!
Hi
hi anyone want to practice speaking english
Gooooood evening, here are some HD-emojis to replace stuff like
and some new ideas:
We appreciate your enthusiasm, but I'm afraid that's a bit too much
You can pick up to two of them for the vote
Those are just suggestions :D
I'd love to see an updated
and a OmegaKEKW emoji
Which one specifically is "OmegaKEKW"?
This one :)
I can't see any image. Can you reupload it?
Ok, thanks
thanks li
although the quality seems kind of low

idk...i sent this using copy link
maybe due to that
When will the vote begin?
hey guys, is there anyone here who wants to study a masters degree in Germany in the future?
Sunday. You can also pick up to two of them that you want the most and suggest other ones another time maybe
i pick you
Hallo zuzammen ! Kennen sie einen Website für saisonarbeiten ? (Für July tatsächlich). In Frankreich, es gibt nichts... Vielen Dank im Voraus
which sunday?
Next Sunday!
Thanks Bulli my beloved, and I thought you forgot. How dare me
Yeah, when have I ever forgotten anything?
I forgot if you ever forgot anything, you won't know the feeling, sorry for being trash.
Guten abend
Is this an emote suggestion?
perhaps
perhaps I see 👀
I will perhaps put it in #archived-emote-suggestions then or perhaps just leave it
depends on the context
if you think its good then it is a suggestion
if not then i just felt like it
hello everyone
to give context i mainly listen to groups like starsets, architect, solence, fire from the gods, nothing more
and i'm looking for similar groups that sing in german
i know rammstein, eisbrecher and oomph
but i'm looking for other gorup to learn more german music
do you have any recommandation ?
I updated the
, since I agree that the quality was a bit lacking
Great, thank you!
Np, thanks for suggesting it~
anyone knows what subjects i need for medicine in germany as an IGCSE candidate? thanks in advance
This is not the appropiate place, please use #questions :)
I sadly do not know that
Wow. For years I've intentionally kept that emoji in with the shitty quality because it was the oldest emoji on the server, and Bulli just yeets it without asking anyone.
RIP original :kappa:, 2016-2023, wtf.
#general message
Whoops
Could we add this as an emoji if there's enough space?
Guys can someone help me please
With what?
Okay we deffo need a 2nd #german-only channel
For the 3rd consecutive evening it's absolutely stacked there and the chat is way too fast
@tired pagoda ge?
Seems legit
And I mean, since we've got general and general-2, why not have german-only and german-only-2?
@little shoal Suggestions to the mod team go in #suggestions
#community-discussion is only for suggestions that are for the community to consider, like lesson/FAQ ideas.
So much for communication within the team.
Hey
emote suggestions
this as sticker or emoji
but we already have
Idk the logo is kinda better
Yeah I agree
ello ello, im sorry for bothering but the last questionnaire in >faq cefr isn't sort of working and redirects to a french page learning thing
Thanks for letting us know. I'll take a look later.
no problemo
Hello my friends, I hope this is the right place to post an emote suggestion for the server?

Thanks for the reminder, I didn't even realize I was thirsty.
Hey everyone
I just started my german learning course a few days ago.
And I missed a few beginning lessons. So could any of you host a lesson for numbers in german? Please
What about numbers exactly? It's fine to suggest lesson ideas here, of course, but I feel like for the topic of numbers, there could already be some YouTube videos that suit what you're looking for. Maybe try asking in #resources for some recommendations?
Is there anyone currently in Germany playing football at any level who can give me an idea regarding the sport culture in germany. I will be coming to germany soon and am willing to join 6th tier clubs or above through trial.
.
.
DM me if you know anything about it.
Danke in voraus
Try #1033125270217048246, this channel is for feedback and discussions related to community projects of the server
wait, am I supposed to ping Bulli
No, idea. Let me do it. @nimble pebble
We love you.
Not really. Just make it obvious, so that I'll find it when I skim through this channel
It's fine though
wait, this is gonna look so bad with light mode
Ah yes the "I don't know how to download an emoji so I took a screenshot" submission.
no I 😭
WAIT I CAN DO IT BETTER
Its great.
nono
If I say so it is.
