hey guy I got my Sparkasse card its maestro and giro card does it mean this is EC karte? Can I use this on the cigaret machines
and I have it 6 digit pin does it make any sense ?
I'm not sure if this is the right channel to ask this, but are your grades during a Bachelor's degree a crucial point when enrolling at ETH?
The international university landscape is highly diverse and offers countless options. The chances of being admitted to one of the Master’s degree programmes at ETH Zürich are better for applicants who have been educated in a relevant subject area at a comparable level and have achieved excellent academic results.
When evaluating international applications, we orientate ourselves to the established university rankings (THE, QS, etc.) as well as to previous admission experiences. We also look favourably at candidates from nationally top ranked universities.
This is what the site says, but I'd still expect some entrance exams (feel free to ping me)
Yes it's an ec karte. Idk about the cigs. Try it out
Haven't heard of it before
thanks mate
Hello i have a question.
A few years later I will go to Germany to study at university. When do universities open in Germany? Can I come before I turn 18 to study at university?
(By the way i have a EU citizenship)
can anyone answer my question?
these things are easy to find on the internet. And if you're a citizen of the EU, aren't you allowed to travel freely anyway?? The Winter semester starts on like the 15th of October or around there.
When I go to university, I will not be 18 years old , so will this cause any problem when settling in a university in Germany?
When I go to university, it will be 1 month before I turn 18.
You don't have to be 18 to go to university. Some rare students start with Uni at 14 too
Okey, Thanks 👍
I have one last question, will I have any problems finding a place to stay when I'm 17?
Okey, thanks again 👍
Hallo
Hello Leute !
Does a german nativ knows if an Arbeitgeber can keep a copy of the Führungszeugnis of a future employee? Or the future employee can just show it ? How is it in the law ?
Danke im Voraus 😁
studiert jemand an FAU in Erlangen? Ich möchte ein paar Fragen über die Stadt stellen :)
hello, I'm new here
Is there any story behind that it is always a black person guarding restrooms in bars/cafes/restaurants, i am really curious about it, are they from specific country?
i wonder that too
Hallo!
It is depending on your situation! So to make it a bit more clear: Are you currently an employee of the Employer? Are you applying?
If it doesn't bother you too much, would you mind reiterating the question?
@molten yarrow yes sure. I had an interview for a job. The employer told be I passed but I have to bring the Führungszeugnis to prove that I didnt have any problem for the law. Since there is a lot of personnal informations about me in this document, can I just show it without the employer making a copy of it ? I know that in some countries, the employer is forbidden to keep this type of document about his employees. Is it the same in Germany ?
So from my research, first. It highly depends on what sort of work you are doing. Examples: Working with children, having huge responsibility, working with high amounts of money, could all be the result of your employer wanting to have a copy of your Führungszeugnis.
Though you have the right to refuse giving them a copy. I believe that the document is necessary for their documentation. So I believe it is not possible to evade giving them the copy or original (depending on what they are asking for.).
@molten yarrow working with children
how can ı study high school in germany
In that case it is clear why they are demanding it.... Refusing it could also be grounds of them not accepting anymore. It is a highly responsible task.
High School or University?
hıgh school
Right. So are you talking grades 5 - 10 or grades 10 - 13?
10 13
@molten yarrow yes Im going to show them but I just do not want them to make a copy of it. Do you know maybe where I can find a response to this matter of the employer having the right to do it or not pls?
So research of this can be done on legal forums. I took a glance, though it seems when working with children... you are not given many options.
Okay so you plan to do your Abitur?
@molten yarrow i researched on internet but didnt find the answer of my question. Do you know any legal forums in german maybe ? Thank you for your time 😊
No worries! Sadly I am at the end of my wisdom. Though it really seems as though providing the Führungszeugnis, especially when working with children... seems like the obligation. That is all I can say on the matter. I have tried to find a website, that fits your request.... or a resource but came up with nothing.
Though, if you want to see the explanation: https://www.kinderschutz-in-nrw.de/fachinformationen/materialien/sammlung/erweitertes-fuehrungszeugnis-in-der-offenen-kinder-und-jugendarbeit-und-der-arbeit-des-kinderschutzbundes/ (A page from a German government entity.)
The gist of it is, if you have responsibitlties with high liability or contact with protected groups it can be requested
Right. But this person is asking if they have to submit it, or just have them take a glance at it. After all my research, can't find the answer, ngl.
Ask the employer. If you just bring it with you for them to see once but they need to keep a copy, they can just copy it there
@molten yarrow i see why they ask for this document since we're talking about children's safety but I just wanted to know as you understood.
Thank you so much for your time and your answers 😁
@spring atlas thank you for your answers
No problem
You are absolutely more then welcome. Let me also just applaud you for being willing to work with children. It is such an important task, it is wonderful that you are going to do that <3
Thank you so much 😊@molten yarrow
Hallo
I'm looking to pursue a Master's in Astrophysics from a German institute and have been looking at my options for where I can register, but I'm rather confused about Humboldt Berlin's degree
https://www.physik.hu-berlin.de/de/studium/master
There doesn't seem to be any information on the language the course is taught in, neither anything for international students
https://studienplatz.hu-berlin.de/bewerbungscheck/ this is the application info page for international students.
The course language is in the "Prüfungsordnung" and it seems to be in German, with some electives being in English
thank you!
Hallo
I was planning on do the bauhaus visual communication course. Is there anyone that passed through this university? If so, how was it?
So I am 30 and wanting to back to school abroad for a masters. What country is better austria or germany? Also does Germany still have that b2 language requirement for a student visa?
yo people
does maestro card sparkasse
does it work in entire europe ?
I will go to Netherland and different countries in europe does it work girocard maestro
Hello. I am about to submit my Aufenthaltstitel application for Austria
Has anyone here done that before, I had a question about filling out the application form
probably not too much
Not done it myself but u should post your question regardless. Someone might know
Ze Flamkuchen?
Mein Flamkuchen!
Kommt hier!
Hey, I'm looking to seek asylum in Germany
Hello, is anybody here from Kiel? I have to visit soon but I'm not sure what kind of clothes I should bring. I've been told different things so I want to be sure of the weather
Just look up "Kiel weather" and u can see what it'll be like for the next month.
Looks like it'll be a mix of warm and rainy days, with the odd day that's cool.
I'm not from Kiel but i can confirm that's what the German summer is like
I did, just wanted to make sure by someone who lives there because this year the weather is being incredibly unpredictable. And some websites say the max is 30 and some say it's 20 degrees
unfortunately, since the weather is so unpredictable, the people living in Kiel probably don't have any better idea than the meteorologist what will happen next
Going to visit Austria and Germany a lot in the next few years starting end of this year need places to go things to do from locals that isn't just generic tourist stuff
Okay so about the odd day's that cool, i saw that minimum temperature will be 11 degrees, that's pretty cold from the standards where I live. Is it not for you or it doesn't normally reach 11
Doesn't Germany have a Max Planck Insituted for Astrophysics or something?
they do, yeah
Astrophysics and Astronomy, 2 institues
both on my radar too 😅
though, they don't offer degrees themselves and work with other unis
Max Planck Institute for Astronomy with Heidelberg University, and the other one with LMU or TUM
Do you apply to other countries too?
yes sir, I plan to apply to other countries as well
USA, Canada, Germany, France, UK, Switzerland
I see. Good luck.
I've interview from University of Bielefeld Tomorrow. Time to panic lmao
@scenic viper if you've done 1 year of a bachelors outside of germany, you can possibly talk to your school about doing an exchange or if you want to finish your degree at a german university, it will likely differ between each university and you'll probably need to talk to each school's admissions office or equivalent.
keep in mind that while there are a lot of german masters programs in english, most bachelors programs are in german. if you do find one in english and transfer to the university, all of your credits may not transfer/qualify you toward a german bachelors degree
And if i already have C1 then is it easy to get a german taught uni ?
yeah the requirement is usually a minimum of B2 afaik
Are there other requirements?
there can be, but they differ from university to university
the DAAD database is pretty good for finding programs
and each school's website will tell you in detail what they need
sometimes their sites are in both english and german, sometimes half of the pages are translatable, and sometimes you click on something for information and its a PDF entirely in german
slowly translates using Yandex
my recommendation is to start preparing as early as possible, because students from abroad are recommended to apply earlier and often you will need to wait for permission from the school to apply, or to wait 4-6 weeks for them to review some documents to let you apply etc
DeepL ftw
lmaoo
I have my C1 but i still got time to finish my first year
So i just wanted to have a good information about these programmes
oh, your pink role made me think you were thinking further in the future
i'm not sure about the application period for bachelors programs, but the last of the sept-dec-starting schools' masters application periods end in about 16 days
I will just mail the universities for the requirements then
yup though most University close applications in may
that is, masters programs for schools that start in the winter (most) stop accepting apps in 16 days
yeah
yeah, usually may 15/june 15/july 15
yeah
Thank you so much for the information
Nope
Yeh it can happen since that's not the only visa requirement
Hello
I Have just completed my bachelor degree in instrumentation and control field
And i want to do masters in Germany
So what are the job opportunities regarding this field
Check stepstone and other job websites.
Ok thanks

i dont know if this is the right place to ask, but what all in the DACH countries are the must see places and things, im currently on a road trip in the us and after im gonna save up money to visit, any recommendations for where all to go?
anyone went on a business/work visa before? any idea how early the entry date is compared to your contract start date?
Small problem with my boss, looking for a 2nd opinion.
I am quitting my job on 31.7. After 3 years of working there because im starting Ausbildung. Going by the contract i have 30 days (6 weeks) vacation per year and until now i have used 20 days (4 weeks) and the last 2 weeks i have put for first 2 weeks of July vacation.
My boss just told me that due to there being 5 more months this year i need to give up my 2 weeks vacation in July, that i only have the right to 20 days and not 30.
I then went to the office and asked the lady there the same question and she agreed and said he is right.
Ive seen people say the opposite on the internet tho... does anyone have any experience with this topic?
.
Is he even allowed do this, or do i at least have the option to let the 2 weeks paid in July?
Honestly i think my boss is trying to scam me.
What does your contract say regarding vacation? I'm not an expert at this but i believe most contracts would have an additional clause stating that leaves would be granted proportionally to the full months you work, if you don't work the full year. This apparently applies for when you quit too
This is the relevant law from the Bundesurlaubsgesetz (BUrlG)
I read this multiple times and i dont think there is the answer to my question, or maybe i read/understood something wrong
Or does it have to do with "Für den fall, dass der Gesetzgeber den gesetzlichen Urlaubsanspruch senken sollte..." part?
Berlin is great, lots of stuff to do. Depends on your interests of course.
"Für den gesetzlichen Urlaub gelten die Regelungen des Bundesurlaubsgesetzes"
I think this is the relevant line
But I'm not sure since it doesn't say anything about the übergesetzliche Urlaubstage being unusable if you don't work the full year
The thing is tho he wont let me use my vacation while i work here, before i quit
i have 2 weeks that i have already put in last year December
for July
and the boss said that since i already used 4 weeks so far, i dont have the right to the 2 more weeks that i had planned in July since im quitting on 31.07.
the 2 weeks vacation i was supposed to have are from 04.07 - 18.07 / 2 weeks (10 days)
Unfortunately I don't know whether they can legally do that. Hopefully someone else here with more legal knowledge can help out
Alternatively you could try posting about it on here https://www.reddit.com/r/LegaladviceGerman
Note that most people on there aren't lawyers either, but they tend to have better knowledge and it might help
I appreciate your advice and taking your time to answer and help, thanks kind stranger! :)
Np. Wish you luck with this matter and your Ausbildung 🙂
UPDATE: wanted to let you know since u were helping since the beginning // and someone may find it useful in the future
I called the worker service office of the company and explained the situation and they told me the same thing my boss told me (that my vacation days are shortened by how many months i worked there) but then i read them the law that says that if i worked for more than 6 months in a year that i have the right to all the vacation days.
He then called me later again and told me i was right but its not all 30 days vacation but only 26 days since its 20 Arbeitstage gesetzlicher Urlaub + 6 Arbeitstage übergesetzlicher Urlaub (only the 10 days übergesetzlicher Urlaub are shortened to 6 due to how many months i have worked there, not all 30)
TL;DR: I have the right to 6 more days vacation, 1 week + 1 day vacation.
The boss either doesnt know the law or thinks im stupid enough to let myself get scammed by him.
Yeah, unfortunately people try to screw you from time to time here.
Thanks for sharing the info.
Thank you. That's definitely useful to know for the future. Glad it got sorted for you
Btw here is the law
In § 4 des BUrlG heißt es dazu: „Der volle Urlaubsanspruch wird erstmalig nach sechsmonatigem Bestehen des Arbeitsverhältnisses erworben.“
I'm guessing he didn't know, the "1-2 days each month" thing is very common, across other countries too
If somebody is named Ann-Kathrin, do you actually call her Ann-Kathrin or Just Say Kathrin, or maybe Anne
hello everyone, can someone that speaks german fluently dm me because im visiting austria soon and i have no idea how to say anything, im scared
well why tf would you visit austria without any german knowledge AND be scared?
boy germans do love the § sign
ok so for uni assist, i had to send a certified copy of my high school diploma
i went and got it certified at the post office, pharmacy and police station and sent it off on express. Is that ok?
professional notarization in my country is $210 per document...
will this suffice? it has the signature. PO gave a round stamp but others did not
notarization isnt necessary since its not a legal document, as long as its official and from the institution you're fine.
I learned yesterday that there is unfortunately no other way.
You simply have to get yourself informed and be ready to present your argument in the smartest sounding way possible by using the word LAW, otherwise ppl are gonna dismiss your argument/take advantage of you
@cloud anchor when you applied for your ausbildung did you translate all your certs into German?
When I did, only my resume and CV. Depends on the Ausbildung though, some emphasize qualifications more than others.
I think he meant the so-called certified copy (Beglaubigung). Not all schools/governments are willing to print an extra official diploma and certificates. You need to make a photocopy and get it certified/notarized.
Much easier to do in Germany honestly.
Like just go to Rathaus for the Beglaubigung. At least in my city it's cheap and quick. They make the photocopies and so on.
When I applied to companies I sent them the recognized cert that states my level of education reached in Germany with the documents that I have from my previous country. Alongside I had some docs and certs that were already translated into German
Agree, I actually didn't even need to make a copy, the lady in Bürgeramt was nice enough to make a copy herself and just put a stamp and her signature on the paper.
It rlly didn't cost nearly as much as I thought it would cost, was really cheap
no company I interviewed at asked for that, a photocopy sufficed
but again the Ausbildung I interviewed for was not too concerned with qualifications since you only need a Fachoberschulreife
I mean he
's talking about the requirement written on uni-assist.
we're talking about Ausbildung...
and when i applied on uni-assist a photocopy of my diploma was fine as well, only my transcript had to be official
Oh did he apply for an Ausbildung? I just joined. So no idea about the chat history. My bad.
Just based on what pa (please ping) has written above.
Oh never mind. I understand the confusion. You replied to pa (please ping) and V Damien. I only replied to your reply to pa (please ping).
i will say it is important to get your foreign qualifications recognized via the Anerkennung process (if you plan to do an Ausbildung) but out of the 30 or so companies I applied to, only positions at government offices required that certification.
also it can take up to 6 months to get your results so its quite a time sink
Yeah, so we are talking about 2 different things.
Anyways, I'm done with the conversation.
It'd be nice for you to admit your misunderstanding. But I guess that'd be too much for your ego.

pa (please ping) asked about uni-assist, you replied about notarization isn't necessary, i replied to you explaining what he meant
Read the comment chain carefully.
pa (please ping) talked about uni-assist and certification
V Damien talked about Ausbildung and certification
You just jumbled everything up.
That's why I asked whether you know pa (please ping) is also talking about Ausbildung. Because perhaps you know his post history or something. But it's like talking to a wall.
Hii! Deos Someone know where can I find a math preparation course for the Aufnahmeprüfung? I will be applying to studienkolleg on summer and I guess it would be good if I am on a course to be well prepared. Thank you in advance :,)
perfekt
GUYS is there anywhere I can get an A2 certifikat?
By 15th Juli
I know i am extremely stupid for letting this be late
but it was an english course. Then in the terms, I only discovered lately that they ALSO require an A2 certificat German as well
my level is beyond that so that is not the problem
I jsut need an A2 certificate
i cant go to the "big 4", goethe, telc etc.
however, I foudn this which is certified by the German Ministry of Education and is claimed to be valid in unievrsities
Please tell me this will work
VALID FOR VISA, JOB & UNIVERSITY CEFR Language Levels A1 | A2 | B1 | B2 | C1 | C2 EVOLANGUAGE SCHOOLS are certified by the German Ministry of Education. When you apply for a job or a university place, you very often need a certificate to prove your exact level of German, usually defined following the CEFR standard
follows CEFR and comes with sub scores of reading, listening, writing and speaking
It sounds like you're better off going directly to who needs it and asking what your options are, rather than taking a chance on someone replying. Surely they can clarify for you?
Also, the website is full of typos, which I find to be odd.
Hallo
Is 2 to 3 months before enrolment at a uni programme "too late" to apply for Studenten Wohnheime or rentals in general
I have a question, my GPA in uni is like 2.6ish? Is that too low for german Unis? (I am going back to school after 7 years and I had one bad semester at uni and was undiagnosed ADHD for the rest, so it was hard, I promise Im not dumb)
No but depending on the city you might even need that long to find a place.
Depending on the program you want to study and the uni, gpa might not even be a consideration for enrollment (Non-NC programs).
For the programs that do have this requirement, i can't say unfortunately. I'm not familiar with the gpa system
I see thanks
Ich habe vor,in Nürnberg zu studieren
Hab die DSH Prüfung schon abgelegt
Can anyone tell me about the part time jobs there? because I need to know how to apply for them while I am studying in uni
And how can i find part time jobs from the first place ?
You send your CV or call them. You can find them on employment websites like indeed, linkedin, etc or just googling them. Or just walking around the streets you might see job ads in front of different stores. Your uni might even share Job ads that are looking for students specifically. So nothing different than anywhere else
waiting for an official reply from the consulate, but I have family living in bavaria who are willing to host me, anyone know if there are visa options for me to move in with them and find a job later on (my reason for travel could be seen as reunion or learning the language) (US passport if that helps)
Can someone tell me what's the average gre requirement for ms and mba courses
Hey everyone, my university is asking for a health insurance. A one that's available in Germany to get enrolled. I have chosen nordost AOK . Can I please know whether this insurance service is good ? Is there service fast ? I have to enroll within a few days and I can't do it without the insurance number
AOK has always worked fine with me
please consider getting in touch with your uni's international office and check whether you can turn in all the other documents and the insurance number a bit later.
in the worst case, apply as soon as possible and call AOK begging for a number/proof of insurance for the uni. Back in 2018 or 2019 they were able to send that to me for the specific emergency of enrollment even though the insurance process was still underway
but like overall: the german unis are not usually looking to shaft you on a technicality. Just explain to them the problem and ask for a bit of leeway. It'll probably be perfectly fine.
I just bought chicken breast from penny and it smells a bit off. It might be safe to eat it but it's definitely not the freshest chicken 😭 I still have the receipt. What are the chances I'll get a refund?
what country / welche Statt?
Germany, Baden-Württemberg
Anyone else getting called all day? I assume those are all spam calls cuz i answered the first one and it was that typical scammer call
The problem is that im waiting for the school that i applied for to call me....
Its kinda annoying
Thank you so much
Hey yes I guess I already have that problem . When I try to enroll in the university, they are asking for a insurance number but when I ask from AOK they are saying they have already sent the university an electronic notification and that is enough for enrollment etc .. I have send emails for both parties asking for a clarification .. waiting for their replies today ...
Lmao sure 😂 i think you’ll hve to bring the product together with the receipt
CV question: I have two covid-related employment gaps of 10 and 4 months that I want to explain. What's a good way to format this? Maybe my education first, then a chronological record of my employment history that includes them?
extra info: first one, I had a German job offer that got delayed due to travel ban. second one, I actually caught covid & had to take time to recover
Hallo
ich habe meine mündliche Prüfung des Abitur morgen, und vielleicht geht es mit Zivilisation auf die Themen "Glück" und "Reisen"
haben sie eine Aktualität oder etwas über diese Themen, die ich sage können ?
Planning on moving to Germany at some point. Just found out about the FATCA laws and the fact the US taxes it’s citizens abroad. Looking at going for a WG as a result.
Anyone got any recommendations on how to go about searching for WGs and general tips regarding them?
Are there any Medical Schools in germany that teach in english?
you can deduct the first 110k or something like that and they take out whatever you already paid out of what they tax, but you still have to file, still a stupid rule
It is indeed, highkey gonna bug the crap outta other Americans later to find out which banks they use that are willing to deal with the FATCA BS.
Cuz I guess apparently a lot of banks will reject Americans due to FATCA.
No there are absolutely not
Medicine is a highly regulated degree, taught in German
thanks I did that and I got my money back! 😂
I have a question about education in Germany.
So, my question is what exactly are German kids taught about Germany in their History lessons. This question is of pure interest, because of the known Germany's past in WW||.
So in my case we learned German history from Battle of Lechfeld (955)/Foundation of the Holy Roman Empire (962) to the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989). However there definitely was a focus on WW1/WW2 and the surrounding events. I had history class from 6. to 12. grade. 8-10 grade was the time, when we learned about the above mentioned German history. In tenth grade we almost exclusively learned about the two world wars.
Ok, thanks a lot.
Your welcome! But keep in mind that the German schooling system is very decentralized, so this may vary according to the region.
hi all, I apologise if this is the incorrect place to ask, but could anyone living in Germany give me their opinion on Deutsche Bahn? especially their IC / ICE trains?
they're always late/delayed. IC/ICE is better quality than RE and the service is better. But all of it's way too expensive. Also low-key a lot of IC trains are just barely refurbished REs, but I guess the point is traveling further without stopping so much 🤷
overall, it's very nice to be able to travel pretty much anywhere by train
downsides: it is slow and pricey

GOTT SEID DANK
have any of u guys attended potsdam university?
the trains usually arent too late, especially not all of them. DB wasn't prepared for the 9 euro ticket.
That really depends on the route you're taking. On some routes, the scheduled maintenance works are so time-intensive, that one would wish for 'just' unpreparedness for the 9€-ticket.
Coming from the us (having not experienced DB) their fares are way less than Amtrak and the trains are faster
hello is anyone here planning to go to germany for their masters?
have been riding with DB regularly for the past 4 years. They are often late. Local transport is usually fine but traveling with ICE/IC or longer Regional trains, multiple times a week Verspätung. Have not a single time traveled north into bremen without more than a half hour delay (have made the trip 5+ times)
I just traveled this past weekend, and the friendly train driver threatened to kick off and call the cops on all the customers who couldn't find a seat. He then proceeded to stop for 20 minutes with no status updates or announcements, then leave 10+ people at the station when he finally decided to move again. again: because he refused to make any announcement. It's hit or miss but a lot of miss.
No but yes. The 9 Euro ticket was announced without input from the transport agencies (such as DB or Flixtrain). So, yeah, no one was prepared because no one knew about it 😄
Though it wouldn't have changed anything. The infrastructure is not at, but over its capacity limits for some time and it's pretty much impossible to enhance it significantly in a few months or weeks
well it was announced weeks before, DB had at least some time to prepare
Yeah, but there is practically nothing that could have been changed in that timeframe
DB as a whole is very dysfunctional and has needed to change for a while, hopefully this accelerates some internal reforms
The 9 Euro ticket? Nope. And its not that dysfunctional. There is, however, a financing gap of biblical proportions
compared to countries like the netherlands its falling short in many ways
we get price gouged for subpar facilities with tardy trains
Maybe on some lines, but compared to the netherlands it's not terrible. They have a far slower net with less dense time schedule
Switzerland is pretty impressive but they drive slower and spend 5 x as much per capita on infrastructure
Dutch trains are nicer, run more frequently, and are seldom late.
Their tickets are more expensive, but at least you get what you pay for.
My main gripe is how expensive ICE tickets can be, costing several times more than plane tickets sometimes. It doesn't make much sense to pay more for a slower and overall inferior mode of transport, even if it helps the environment.
Eh, same rolling stock, but it depends on which lines you use. But yeah, the german network is way over capacity. The transport politics of the last 16 years was absolutely terrible. It's slightly better now (i mean, it's tremendously better) but there is a gap of a few hundred billion Euro if the punctuality of pre-Merkel is a future goal
Yeah it functions decently well all things considered, but could certainly be better. Italian HSR basically made domestic flights obsolete within their borders, would be incredible if that became the case here.
I mean that's the goal. E.g. new high speed line Frankfurt - Mannheim is planned for 2028 and together with Ulm - Munich would give a really fast connection to Munich
but it's not financed so probably will only be built 2030+ and most likely not before 2040
same for Frankfurt - Fulda
no city wants the new highspeed line, so there would need to be built some absurdly long tunnels, which are way to expensive and since the infrastructure budget will probably be cut this is gonna end up on the chopping block as well :/
My favorite example: There is a rather important rail corridor from the harbors in the netherlands down the Rhein through the alps and into italy. In 1996 all countries agreed to dramatically increase the throughput. The relevant railways planned everything out and the governments of all states agreed to finance and make possible this huge project
So 2020 comes around and Switzerland has finished a crapload of new tunnels (Gotthard etc. etc.) and kindly asks our Verkehrsminister: Ok, we are finished our part. We see yours isn't finished, no worries, delays can happen, but when do you plan on finished the german part?
"Well, we haven't done anything the past 20 years, so, once we start the planning process and start organizing the funding we'll need around 20 years"
As someone who lives on the dutch border i wish there were more trains into holland, the infrastructure has been here for nearly a century but there's no willpower from the govt to make it reality.
Rural areas like mine unfortunately get overlooked
Just saw this today. It's been happening a lot lately
Yeah
I thank you all who gave your thoughts on DB
It's been a v useful and insightful set of discussions to read
Is taking a degree in German worth it (as a double major) worth it if you want to move? Is it a buff?
My desired uni teaches you up to C1 in the span of 3 years
Best banks for offshore ? ( for no german citizens)
In today's 'Rheinische Post' ('Rhenian Post', a large western german regional newspaper, moderately conservative), there was a large article about renting in Cologne titled 'Hundreds of Euro for a hole-like basement' ('Hunderte Euro für ein Kellerloch'). In case anyone is interested, I can summarize the main points.
to those who migrate in German in citizen...what do i need to know and ready first before moving ?
Similarly, I have a company asking me what kind of timeline I would need to relocate, and realistically I don’t know how to answer. I’d love to hear how long it took others from America to successfully move. Is it on the scale of weeks? Months? Closer to a year?
the actual act of moving can be done pretty quickly...
but it totally depends on your circumstances
do you have to sell a house? Quit a job? Find a new place to live?
I'd have to find a new place to live, unless the company that hires me provides that assistance to start and I could find a more permanent one once I'm there. I do have some legal paperwork I need to take care of, but I'd have to sell off the majority of my worldly possessions in order to afford the move and that will take time.
The longest piece is probably updating my passport I'd guess at that point?
My passport is still valid, but I need to change some info on it
I see, thx for sharing!
Btw does anyone have any experience with Kindergeld? I was looking for an Ausbildung for a bit over year and was twice in Agentur für arbeit where they sent me available companies and all that but after the 2-3 appointments i stopped going because i could do all of that on my own and search on the internet by myself.
The problem is that my coworker (we work Teilzeit) told me that because she was searching for Ausbildung that she has been getting Kindergeld all this time and that the Agentur fur arbeit told her that.
Im a bit disappointed now because none told me that and i could have gotten money that wouldve helped me until now while searching for a company for Ausbildung.
The question is, does anyone have any experience with this? I will get in contact next week and ask if im eligible for the Kindergeld money that I could've gotten until now, would that even be possible?
I found a a company and will start with Ausbildung in September which is why I don't know IF I will be able to get the money rückwirkend for the months that I was searching for Ausbildung
Well i believe this depends largely on your visa status, are you from the EU?
Yes, EU resident, 22 years old and have been living and working in Germany for a bit over 3 years
I googled it a bit and I think it says one is only able to get up to 6 months Kindergeld rückwirkend
As long as you don't have a Verpflichtungserklärung or any external stipend you should meet the requirements, in any case its best to contact the relevant Behörde (anyone can apply for these benefits)
I applied for Wohngeld a few months ago and was unable to get any due to my Verpflichtungserklärung
Dont have a Verpflichtungserklärung or any stipends, but maybe since i stopped going to Agentur appointments since December 2021/Januar 2022 and they stopped sending the company recommendations I wont be able to get the money hmm
In any case i will contact them on Monday and see what can be done about it
Personally I've been told the Agentur isn't the best place to find jobs anyway 😅
But was rlly disappointed that they didnt mention any of that to me like they did to my coworker when she was looking for Ausbildung :/
Even my Ausbilder told me sites like lehrstelleboese.de are where companies recruit more actively
yea i'd just inqure, like i said, anyone can apply--they just check if you meet the requirements for it
Ye it seemed like a huge waste of time which is why i stopped going there, the dude showed me their site and told me how to look for a company which i all already knew and that was about it, no tips and no good advice which is why i stopped going haha thankfully i managed to find a company on my own
Yeah the Berufskolleg which offers the Ausbildung you look for will be more knowledgeable. The Agentur can only offer generalized advice usually.
It is what it is i guess, will try next week and see how it goes, rlly appreciate ur help nonetheless and wish you a good rest of the night! :)
Work in a couple of hours, need to get at least some sleep in ^^
Hey, those who applied for uni in different regions in DE , did you have to get Anerkennung from every state separately? Or could you apply without it and then just send it if you get in
Anerkennung of what?
Sorry, Anerkennung of your high school degree (asking foreigners only)
you use uni-assist for most unis, the Anerkennung process is for lower schools and Ausbildung
for uni-assist yes there is a fee
if you do, ping me on it!
NRW is one of the regions i haven't personally been to nor have friends living there, i would love to get more info on it.
I want to study a masters degree in the near future (next 1-2 years) in germany as a foreigner (mexico). In specific, i plan to study either elektrotechnik or computer science in a technical university. What papers should I get ready before i do the application, apart from german and english tests? is the high school certificate required for a masters degree? I will be working in germany in a related field meanwhile i get all my papers ready
go to the program's website and look at the requirements.
Also: uni-assist (possibly you won't use this for a master application but still a good resource)
Can someone answer a couple of questions about doing an elective in germany (Famulatur) ?
Hi!
Can you live off 600 euro in germany?
I know its a weird question. But i got a job "opportunity" there. This the best i could find.
Note:i come from 3rd world country so really anything is better than here.
Its going to be work visa and then after working them for a period of time I'm planning on findinf another job in my field (Computer science)
What do you guys think of the plan? Is it bullshit? Is it a waste of time? Is it great?
Really any feedback is appreciated 🙏🏻
600€ a month isnt enough unfortunately unless you already have money saved up to last you until u get a new job. It would be livable as a student, but barely(depending on city). But since you'd be on a work visa, things would be more expensive
Hi!
If the job is "internship" and i get a certificate after doing it for like 2 years.
Do you think it could be a learning visa?
I was also thinking i could work with them and after my shift i'll do freelancing work in my field online
I'll definitely be able to raise it to 1000 euro
I think there's also an internship visa. Not sure about it but u can look it up
Alr thz
Hi!
Does anyone have experience with vetschool in Germany?
Hi everyone! I'm currently trying to get into studienkolleg and study in germany, I already live in berlin and it would be great if I could attend to it here. However I'm a bit confused on how it works, I wonder if applying to more universities will actually increase my chances of attending to studienkolleg in Berlin, since there's only one for the G kurs, I already apply via Uni assit to FU, should I send more applications to different universities? Or is this unnecessary? I thought to attend to Studienkolleg you had to apply to either FU , Humbolt or Charitè. I would appreciate any response since the deadline for Winter course is in 4 days. Thank you in advance!!
maybe try to get in contact with an already enrolled student who helps out new students or something like that to get first hand infos. Sometimes you can find their contact infomration on the unis website too or call the secretaries office and hope for a nice person and ask them to help you a little. If it´s a nice person and you tell them about the situation you´re in they might be helpful & also might redirect you to some students/ other people who could help you out. Hope I could help somehow & you will figure it out-goodluck!
First time I'm hearing of a G Kurs but there has to be more than one institution offering that in Berlin. Just make sure the certification you get at the end is accredited. Some of these places offer Studienkolleg but with useless certification
Hi, guys, I wanted to know, how hard is it to get an Ausbildung for Krankenpfleger ( I am from iraq ) with Having B1 Certificate
And if one has B2 , will it ease the process of getting the Ausbildung
(
Or Where can I know the requirements for Ausländers)?
I also wanted to know, if one can get into University with B1
Any Americans here get a work visa to Germany? The website reqs confuse me. I’m wondering if I need to actually have deposited €10k in a German bank to get a work visa or if that’s JUST the student visas. I plan to have a savings, yes, but also, I’m graduating college and wanna leave the US sooner rather than later. (Don’t have debt, will have about $8k)
So far from my research, you need a blocked account with a deposit that is enough to cover your stay.
It's expensive, but it's understandable why it's done that way.
do you already have the job offer/contract?
Hi why do they want a bank account with 10k euro?
Thank you so much!
Security I guess
Or just flex for rich and successful people
to make sure you don't die of hunger
Am i gonna use it or what what they need it for
again, so that you don't die of hunger
Bruh
it's gonna be split into 12 reimbursements as your allowance
during your stay for a year
If i didnt ask that would‘ve been better
yea
they want to make sure that you aren't going to need to fall back on government support during your stay.
it would be nice if they actually cared about whether you died of hunger 🙂
but they are really concerned about not having to pay for you.
Danke
have people gotten a german citizenship without marriage, after having C2 Niveau and a secure job
is it even possible there. I researched about it a few years ago on Wikipedia maybe, and there it was written that after meeting a few criteria like language and job, you may apply for a german citizenship
are you talking about citizenship or getting a blue card/permanent residence permit? They are two different things.
hmmm...I don't really think so. Why would you want to anyway?
to be a real german
although
curiousity honestly
May because it's up to the individual whether they want to apply for a citizenship or not
I take back what I said: I think you can definitely apply for it. But you have to give up your prior citizenship
I forgot about that
what do you mean benefit?
You would be a german citizen, vote in german elections, be subject to german laws--I mean the last part non-citizens are too, but it will usually involve your home country's embassy
you children would be german citizens, though that too can happen with non-citizens
as to the differences in being a blue card holder vs. a citizen
if your offspring is born there, they're granted citizenship? i heard that's not true in case of de
jup read the article. that's cool
i have a cousin who was born there. they've had PR for ~4 years maybe. cool to know she can become a citizen
So I have a question regarding something called BBHZVO
hallo, ıch will auf deutsch kurs. wie scbriht auf deutch kurs?
I don’t. I’m gonna be graduating university soon and looking to join a company. Trying to do some pre-planning.
is 200 euros a month on food too much for NRW?
it really depends on how you eat. But with inflation as it is rn I would definitely not say that's too much
any one knows of a university that accepts DSH 1 ? please msg me privatly if yes
that would be with eating 8 kg on chicken breast a month, 4 kg of rice
and 3kg of protein powder
plus some veggies and fruits
I think that's called privilege
200 for one person is a bit much to me, but people's diets and what products they buy vary
good way to save money is shop at discounters (penny, netto, lidl, aldi, etc.) and also check out Lagerverkauf where they sell overflow of products for dirt cheap
https://www.uni-bremen.de/studium/starten-studieren/angebote-fuer-internationale-studierende/finanzierung
hab das einfach hier gelesen
Eine Lebenskostenaufstellung der Verbraucherzentrale Bremen finden Sie* hier.*
Die Internetverbindug funktionert nicht leider
@fiery edge
ja
@exotic barn, your message has been redirected here from #community-discussion:
Regarding getting a visa to WORK — does one need $10k in a German bank for a WORK visa? I saw something about it for a STUDY visa but I’m not so sure on the work visa.
@exotic barn you don't need the 10k € for a work visa (ie if you already have a job offer), but if you don't have one and are looking to get a job seeker visa you'd need to be able to show some money in your bank but it doesn't necessarily have to be 10k, since i think these visas are valid less than a year.
Ahhhh. Got it. Thanks friend!
Nein, ich meinte, ob die Institution, an der ich meinen Bachelor gemacht habe, meine Chance auf einen Master-Abschluss in Deutschland beeinflusst. Ich komme aus Indien.
Well your uni / graduation certification needs to be recognized in Germany. If it is, then during your application there'll be a process to compare your bachelor credits with the minimum master's requirements. Depending on the result you might have to take extra classes to get the missing credits or you could start the master's degree directly.
Unfortunately that's all I know on that matter.
but to start with, you can check whether your certification is recognized. Here's a guide: https://hallogermany.com/blog/anabin-guide-academic-degrees
thanks for the info, my certification is recognized.
anyone else applied for a TUm BACHELORS?!
i sent in just my university entrance vertificate to uniassist becuase that is what it says on the TUM website
a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification in the original language (the higher education entrance qualification includes your secondary school certificate, e.g. A-Level, and additionally the certificate of your preparatory college assessment test, if you have completed the Studienkolleg,
however, I did not send any transcripts. Was i supposed to do that to get the VPD? Im really pankicking now
i did not complete the studienkolleg
did you attend a Studienkolleg?
no
...so you were just applying to TUM but you need to turn in a VPD with your application? Or was the entire application via Uni-Assist?
when?
few weeks ago
and have you received it yet?
no
wait I just asked that
have you received correspendence from uni-assist that they received your application and that all necessary documents had arrived?
no
i paid ages ago
i will call tmr i guess
TUM explicitly states
a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification in the original language (the higher education entrance qualification includes your secondary school certificate, e.g. A-Level, and additionally the certificate of your preparatory college assessment test, if you have completed the Studienkolleg,
nothing says "a breakdown of grades and subjects must be visible"
but they also say a VPN is required?
that is the breakdown of grades
that is your Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, so to speak
yeah this is to APPLY for the vp
tum asked me to send that
i could sue them right lol
anything about transcript and grades?
You are applying for a VPN with uni-assist. They set the rules for that. Your VPN is an addition to your application at TUM (which also has other elements and is done through TUM as you already know).
I don't want to speak in certainties without double checking, but afaik when you apply for a VPN at uni-assist, you need to send in your 'Zeugnisse' which includes Notenübersicht, Fächer, etc.
yes, they don't just do american diplomas, obviously
again, I can't speak in any certainties, but my understanding of a VPD and the multiple times I have gotten it (all of which were achieved with a prior Bachelors Degree, not a high school diploma, so there may be differences) included the 'translation' of the grades into a german grade, for which they needed transcripts (and a list of classes taken)
I would recommend getting in touch with uni-assist and asking there, and/or with he international office at TUM.
fads;lkfjasd;lkfjas;
aasfka;lkfja
ok
i just dont wanna pay for express shipping AGAIN
did your diploma...have any mark on it?
Or what exactly did you send
That's a good sign. Good luck
its is just the "x has sucessfully completed the requirements of this exam for university entrance"
ok
i DO however have my RANK
my country wide rank
i sent that certificate not as a hardcopy but it is very secure since it has the QR code which you can scan and see the certificate online too from a government website
that sheet has my GRADES for my subjects and the statewide rank which is calculated from that
Hello
it does not show the marks however just the grade
tbh i feel like i could get away with that lol
Question — is it true that people often don’t introduce themselves with their first names in Germany or is that outdated information?
Trying to look up culture information but most of it is pre-COVID and I’m not sure how accurate all of it is.
Usually if a stranger calls you via Telephone most Germans answer with their last name
In Public it can be different and most people (from my experience) introduce themselves with their full name or only their first name
do you guys think my chef would not like it if i dye my hair red? he is a boomer
should i discuss it with him beforehand, to avoid repercussions?
what do you work as? generally, its really none of their business even if you worked for the state dyed hair wouldnt be a problem
Guys , if you have low grades for secondary education but have got selected to a public university, can your german visa get rejected ?
I guess it depends on whether you're being accepted at the university, with an acceptance letter the chances to be rejected are low, the 'hard' part will be getting into an university with low grades
OMG i think i DO have to send the transcirpt also
😭
another $30 express post
lkjdsöflkdsjaklösajflöksjdflökasdjflökadsjflökj
does nazone know what zears the transcript has to cover_
like is it just the final zear of high school
when zou completed the universitz entrance tests
or ALL of high school
dude FK the unißassist
worst thing in existence
Hallo, i wanted to ask if there is preference given to students who know german (say B1) when considering international students for English based technical courses(Masters) in public uni such as TUM?
zes zou will get more preference for higher german language skills
Does someone know if there is a difference in value between the TestDaF and the digitalen TestDaF? Or are they accepted the same?
please send your full transcript of the diploma you're using for entrance into a german university T_T
uni-assist really isn't that hard. If you had looked at what a VPD is, it would've been obvious you need to send all of this. They have several webpages with checklists and info on collecting all necessary documents. the deadline for applications is....tomorrow right? Or is that just in hessen and bremen?
Quick Google search says they're both accepted, but the digital one has more tasks and is possibly harder
sorry I didn't find that in my long google search
thanks
I haven't checked if there's a price difference but I'd recommend doing the paper one if you got a test center near you since theres tons of sample tests based on that format
I can only do the digital one
Well that's alright just make sure you know what the exam format will be like
hi can i get extra help deciding a school?
My top choices were Unievristy of Saarland (UdS) and also Technische universitaet Muenchen - TUM. CS
My top factors in order include
-
Price. I don't wanna drop out lol - I know Germany like sto "weed out" students. I'm not Einstein but I am able to put in the work. If its EXTREMELY DIFFICULT then... it kinda ties into my second point, which I may not have too much time for:
-
Being able to find work as a student. I don't have a lot of money and would need to work
-
Location and architecture, as well as making friends as a minority international students
UdS Pros:
-
Bilingual region speaking French and German. This is one of my top reasons; to learn German but ALSO French potentially. Location is great and a nother hige factor.
-
Saarbruecken is not too expensive right? I am a student. Cost is the biggest factor for me
-
It has the MAX PLANK INSTITUT. Damn that's pretty good. Can undergrads be part of this? I would love to.
-
Apparently there is a small cohort of 15 only who get accepted, which would make it great to make close friends.
UdS Cons:
- Is it beautiful? Unfortunately the campus seems a little bland and in the middle of the woods. Is the city nice though? Is there beautiful European Architecture?
TUM Pros:
-
The highest ranked school in Germany according to "Engl*sh" rankings. I have learned to stop the prestige whoring but would this be a fantastic opportunity to pass up? I want to go into FAANG and I am pretty sure that TUM is much better known than UsD probably
-
Following on from the previous, the location for my degree is actually in HEILBRONN which is pretty cheap. ie. I get to get the TUM degree but without spending ludicrous amounts on rent in Munich! I'm sure this definitely doesn't happen often.
-
Seems to have better clubs and groups. Seems to have more internationals and a better scene overall.
-
Not located in the woods lol
TUM Cons:
-
Is Heilbronn beautiful? I know Munich is nice.
-
this is a bit annoying but it cost $0 to apply to the others but TUM cost me $300 ;-; for the uni-assist (god I hate uni assist), A2 Geothe Zertificat, Express POST for documents, NOTArization... I think I may even have to post MORE stuff. Really dont want to be spending money. Anyway, it just hurts to see me throw away $300 if I dont attend.
Augsburg uni of applied sciences Pros (International information systems):
-
I know that Augsburg is veeeeeery nice and serene.
-
Taught in German lol I am sorry but this is the only degree which is taught in German. The others are in English. As I would actually like to improve my German, this is the major pro of this uni. It starts in English then transitions to German. That is just so great for me for immersion
-
is this the cheapest option of the three?
Augsburg uni of applied sciences Cons:
-
The logo is low key ugly
-
Doesn't SEEM as good for CS as the other two but I know that unis across Germany are uniformly excellent
...
Ok I also applied to TH Hamburg and TH Deggendorf. Are those any good compared to the aforementioned? Deggendorf I would be doing AI which is really interested and apparently people only really get to do for Masters, while I would be doing it for Bachelors.
Sorry for the long post but I really would like to see other's opinions before I commit
Seeing as u want to get into FAANG and/or possibly max Planck, it would be better to do it at a Uni rather than a Uni of Applied Sciences. Especially if you wanna get into research. They're regarded higher and the courses are more theoretical, and go more in-depth.
You'd also have an easier time getting into a master's program later, in case u decide to do it at another uni (cause of Auflagenfächer)
Can't speak for the cities though. Don't have much knowledge on any of them
Maybe someone else can chime in
thank you. I guess Augsburg is out of the question then?
lol Augsburg is so sexy
shame but ok I was mainly considering TUM adn Saarladn anyway
Munich is known to be extremely expensive, possibly the most expensive in all of Germany for university students (have not lived there by myself, though).
Why do you ask about Heilbronn when talking about TU Munich? Heilbronn is in a completely different part of Germany.
I would also advice you to consider the specialisation you want to develop for yourself. Different Unis excel in different things, offer different electives etc. I would consider that to be more important than the logo (unless your preferred specialisation is design).
Hey guys, im gonna start my study next wintersemester. i would like to know if Wurzelkanalbehandlung or Root Canal Treatment is covered by staatliche Krankenversicherung or not?
Hi , is there something called ' Placement ' in germany . A placement is where the company visits the university for hiring students . This work in my country so does in germany ?
They're called Job- und Ausbildungsplatzböse, sometimes they're hosted at a uni sometimes the city itself has them.
At my town a bunch of companies set up booths at the Stadthalle
But one youtuber told their viewers that there is nothing like placement
I will post the link of the video once I found it
These Börsen are usually not hosted by the universities themselves, and it is not unusual for universities to have booths there, too. And from what I understand, this is not what you mean by 'placement'. There are two things which might be comparable, though.
- Sometimes companies or (external) programs aimed at students get permission from a professor to advertise during a lecture. This usually is with a pretext of a cooperation or an experience report from a graduated student. The pretext has to be compelling, though. Most of the time, students do not like this very much. If they do more advertisement than information, they might get treated very coldly by students (I mean almost to the point of being openly rude). So this is not done lightly, and not done in more theoretical fields, as far as I am aware.
- Sometimes the university (especially universities of applied sciences) invites companies for gatherings that are already scheduled for another reason (for example a day-of-the-open-door/"Tag der offenen Tür", where the public is invited to get to know the university). This is the closest you can get to an actual Jobbörse, but you will not ever see a contract signed there as well.
Well it seems like placement is in not common in germany or maybe other countries. But my country India has a system where the companies like Amazon , TATA ,etc come directly to the university and a programm called 'placement' takes places where the companies takes interview in universities and from there they are qualified to have the job . In India we look how good the college is for placement . I just want to know how does one gets job in germany after completing masters or completing university.
This one you mentions looks like a it maybe a small programs taking place in universities and not a part of system .
I don't know I am fully correcte or wrong
So I request @nova badger to recheck if he knows
I am not yet studying in germany or anything still preparing like you, I will tell ya what I know.
The concept of on campus placement doesn't really exist in most of the western countries, it prolly exists in Ivy leagues(not sure, but that's out of topic).
So there, there's a culture of off campus placements, which is not a problem there unlike in India, the uni and interships makes you ready to join into the job market.
I am. but I am going to apply in some unis next year, right now I am conducting research on some master programs and also learning German from 0...
From above discussion I came to know there is no such thing like placement in germany , so what does a student do after graduating. Do they go look for job ??? Like they visit every company?
They look for jobs, you get a job search Schengen Visa which allows you to search for a job in all 26 Schengen countries.
Wow imagine the work actually coming to YOU 😂 unfortunately doesn't work like that yeah
Depends on the insurance, basic one wouldn't cover it completely.
there's like an extra you can pay in your health insurance and then they'll, but w the basic one it's 200-400 eur from my experience
That's not great at all , company goes to only great reputated college and those colleges are very less . If the a student doesn't qualify for job then he needs to takes off campus placement which is very hard
Idk how to explain
But very hard
Hi I'm from SEAsia and never been to Europe but planning to apply to German studienkolleg at the end of this year. The news said Germany gas price could tripled soon. I wonder is it possible for average international students in Germany to live without gas at all? Can personal electric heater be used in your rented room instead of gas heater?
I thought the same about the electric heater but on every discussion I have seen online, people talk about reducing temperature of the heater and shower quicker to save gas but nobody says let's use electric heater instead so we can save 100% of gas for heater and use it somewhere else. Electric heater I found online are very cheap too. so I was wondering if there is something I don't know since I never use a heater myself.
Electric heaters aren't as efficient and the running costs can be higher depending on usage and the electricity provider
But it's still a valid alternative if your heating costs are high anyway. You can easily estimate how much your electricity costs would be with an electric heater
Ölheizung is pretty common 🙂
how hard is it to get an apartment in berlin
There is package which gives you room , food and basic things required which is very cheap but has many problem
It cost only 300-400 euros per month
how do i get to that package
Can't carry around blankets with you all around the house can u? 😅
But even then it's sometimes not enough with how cold it can get
i honestly just need an apartment
Is this for real? I'd honestly think it's a scam if i saw it
Idk where I saw but once I came across it will send you
muss man sich persönlich beim energieversorger melden oder geht das online?
ah, good luck on your endeavors
is it true that the government told the people not to take showers everyday in germany?
i mean people would usually get scolded for not showering before at most places in the world, its the opposite now?
0 votes and 44 comments so far on Reddit
Nah the Germans don't care how much do you shower
ah okay
Man i am really stressed now, it didnt occur to me before
Are affiliation not counted as recognized institutions? I mean if I am from X institution, and it is affiliated with Y institution, that means Y sets all the question papers etc and ultimately provides the assessment. So if Y institution is mentioned in Anabin but X is not, then does it mean its all right or not?
Can you do ausbildung with SAT certificate?
it can be considered during the Anerkennung but I don't know if it will make much of a difference.
Yes I have been accepted to public university.. what about the embsassy evaluation..
if I have B1 Zertifikat, will I manage to get an Ausbildung in Germany, and I tell them, I have learned B2 here in my homecountry, but had not had the chance to do a test, I want to do it in Germany"is this reasonable, or relevant. ( how hard is it to get Ausbildung with B1)
and where do i find the frequently asked question about culture, work visa, please, in this channel, is there a section???
check out the pinned messages
is is easy to transfer between german universties like if i'm studying in saarland uni can i transfer to Humboldt University ?
or any University
Well, first of all you obviously have to move for most such transfers, which is at best tedious.
I'm no expert on the matter as I didn't transfer myself, but I would assume that if there's an application process for your study subject you'd most likely have to go through with that (again).
Then an important question would be if you'd want to keep the progress of your studies if you want to keep your major. If so, it is likely you will have to undergo a process where it is checked if the overlap between the old and new lessons is big enough (had contacts with a few students who had to do this). This is checked for each module individually, so there might be lessons/exams that you have to take again or subjects that weren't included at all with your former university.
On the other hand, this might actually help you, as normally you don't have to transfer your progress. If you do this, you'd have to retake classes and exams, but if you got a bad grade before you can scrap that grad. There are also a few other minor boons you might take from this if you're not pressed for time.
They sent my Aufenthaltstitel while i was on vacation and I couldn't pick it up it says its sent back to sender, how can i pick it up, should i go to Auslanderbehorde or its issued by someone else?
pls dont say Auslanderbehorde, it's easier to find Jesus Christ himself than to find somebody there
call the Behörde and ask for a new appointment to pick it up/for it to be remailed
but yes, it will have to be the Ausländerbehörde
Yea I am applying this winter
Standard salary for a beginner at macdonalds is around 21 francs an hour
There are also scholarships one can apply for I believe
hey, im from Ukraine and in Ukraine we have 11grade and after finishing 11th grade u can attend university, now im in Germany and i wonder is my 11 grade enough to attend uni here in Germany?
and do u know the website where i can find more about the study-programm and about unis?
why is there so much stuff to fill in for kindergeld if you come from Ausland holy...
https://www.arbeitsagentur.de/familie-und-kinder/kindergeld-ausland
do i really need all to fill in all 3 attachments? Antrag auf Kindergeld, Anlage Kind and Anlage Ausland?
I'm 22, want to sign as Ausbildungsplatzsuchend
Kindergeld für Menschen aus dem Ausland und Deutsche im Ausland: Was die Voraussetzungen sind und wie Sie den Antrag stellen. Jetzt informieren!
like there is so much random stuff
so if both of my parents live in Germany with me and are working in Germay, we arent getting any more elsewhere like from our old country, that means i dont need to fill this in right?
Yeah beginning next fall hopefully
do u guys after 12th grade take any exam in order to apply to uni? i heard u have to score between 0,5-1 in order to b accepted, is it true?
If you're asking about German universities, there are a number of different ways in which applicants are accepted. Which one applies to a specific person depends on the university and the subject one wishes to study. These are some of the ways I know of:
- No examination whatsoever: In this case you just have to have Abitur (German high school graduation certificate) or something similar. Some universities of applied sciences also accept Fachabitur, which is similar to Abitur but with the last year of school replaces by work experience (as far as I know, but I'm not totally sure on the specifics). The grade you got doesn't matter as long as you passed.
- Examination (solely) based on Abitur grades: In this case you have to have a specific grade average in Abitur to be accepted. If you happed to have an average that is slightly lower, you may accumulate work experience in the field which can be taken into account to lower the necessary grade average.
- Special examination: Done only for very specific subjects as far as I know. If you want to become a school teacher for example, you have do an Eignungspraktikum, which means that you have to do simple work in your field under supervision to see if you seem to be suitable for the field.
There may be other ways of examination, but I may not be aware of those.
Hi everybody. I´ve been accepted to a universitiy in München. Im travelling to Munich in mid-September. When is a good time to look for a home in München?
Congrats!
Thanks!!
Congratulations!
No I’m just giving example
Finally some good news here and not requirement for 10k bucks
starting my Ausbildung in 2 weeks 💪
in welchem Bereich?
Kaufmann für Großhandelsmanagement
Gl, wish you all the best! ^^
Also starting mine in September :)
Good luck to both us :D
What’s that
what's yours for?
Fachinformatiker für Anwendungsentwicklung :)
very competitive field hope it goes well 👍
hi, so for example i got admitted in uni major in, lets say, computer science and i got kicked out because i could keep up, so is it possible to apply to computer science again? i was told i cannot
In which country?
germany
Then I dont know sry
😔
if someone knows pls reply
is it berufschule? idk atleast im making b1 course rn snd the teacher say Ausbildung is berufschule and uni is Abitur but anyway congrats 👏
yes you take courses at the Berufsschule while working at a company
I don't believe so
there may be some exceptions, but generally speaking after you've 'flunked out' of a certain Studiengang, you are not able to study it again within germany
you can try a different field
im afraid tho that my german knowledge wont be good enough for the berufschule and the company :/
u study informatic in beruf schule?
I feel you
yes im starting in september
I did an Ausbildung als Landwirt before for a few months, the Berufsschule wasn't too hard to follow. That industry is probably one of the last places you'd find someone who knows English anyway. In any case my teachers and classmates were very understanding, i simply asked them to repeat something if i didn't understand.
I wouldn't worry about it, if you were able to secure a spot at a company your German is certainly good enough.
that is also very good! probably even better than doing an ausbildung :)
yeah, but ive been making b1 course now for luke 2month, and its nothing
and i want to try Studentkollegen since in my country i finished 11th grade
and in my country we only have 11 grade
Try exposing yourself to more german daily
ye i mean, we had multiple meetings and my boss is aware that my german isnt perfect
yeah thx for advice, like in august i have holiday and i plan to practice with native speaker
Reading a lot of comics in german and watching kids films without subtitles really accelerated my understanding
my Nachbarin actually
Thats even better
i imagine IT is a very international oriented field as well
Then you get the speaking part too
true and i assume a lot of the terms are similar if not even the same as in english
my biggest problem is articles
i actually need to sit down and learn that shit
haha same, its just a matter of time investment and memorization
i think compared to the various grammar forms its not so bad, there's fairly clear logic behind which articles go where
well i never took the niveau test but ive lived here for 3 years and held down various jobs...so i'd say B1 at the least is accurate
honestly if you have worked here for 3 years with multiple jobs and everything i think thats easily b2
my speaking and listening comprehension is quite good, just need to improve writing
Same
at least for me getting b2 cert was rlly easy, i was even in a course at the beginning and a lot of the ppl couldnt even read so i just dropped out and learnt on my own which was faster
the Landwirt Ausbildung had few essays, it was mostly analyzing feed tables and anatomy diagrams
@cloud anchor im not an expert but after berufschule u'll become a programmer? and the salary u'll get will it be different from the uni graduated IT student?
btw u never finished that ausbildung right? since u are starting a new one in august?
yea did it for approximately 9 months then decided to change
i will be a programmer after the ausbildung but im pretty sure that your chances of getting hired and the salary will probably be higher if u have a college degree, its up to u to decide tho
no im just asking, for the back up plan
ima be real, the Ausbildung system is very robust here, its respected highly throughout Europe and in many industries your salary will be the same if not similar to someone with a degree.
in the end what matters most is your skill and what u contribute to the company
Internship I had at a customer service firm literally no one had a degree and everyone made decent money, salaries aren't particularly high in Germany anyway.
yea, imo the best thing about the Ausbildung is that you have many options after completing it: go onto uni, simply work more in your industry of choice, go onto Meisterschule (if applicable), etc.
and the taxes... oh man^^
yep^^ wouldn't get too set on earning a ton since a lot of it will get taken away anyway haha
exactly hahahah
btw for anyone who didnt know this
u are applicable for kindergeld if u cant find ausbildungsplatz
even if u are working
Btw a random question, is getting a phone tarif mit vertrag stupid now? Are the prices that much lower during lets say black friday or christmas?
ive always used alditalk, its by far the cheapest option
the yearly plan is only 60 euros, although with only 12gb of data
So for 60€ yearly you get 12gb per year and i assume flat/free calls and mssgs?
yes exactly
Ouki thx
@olive summit @cloud anchor just curious but do you two have an abitur equivalent
nope
I see.
Honestly ive been considering doing an ausbildung big time because i bet my alevel results suck
its come to this point. I mean ive considered it but it might become a must
Anyone here has been or is in Studienkolleg? I found conflicting information regarding whether non-eu students attending Studienkolleg are allowed to work during semester breaks or not. Anyone with experience?
For which subject(s) do you want to apply? Different unis excel in different fields. And the cost of living varies widely between cities. Some of the bigger cities might not be as far off from the US than you might think if you want to live in/near the city centre.
what do you mean with... ''living costs is affordable''
I dont, u dont need it to get an Ausbildung offer from a company but it makes finding a company a bit easier
Yeah. Almost all unis do. Can't imagine any uni that doesn't tbh.
There's a page here for applicants from India.

What about work experience?
What are your A level results?
