Hello and welcome to the German Learning and Discussion Discord server!
This is a server for learning the German language. It is a valuable resource for supporting your learning journey and people are happy to help you out and practice with you, but please don’t ask anyone to be your private tutor or help you cheat on your homework/exam. We recommend that you read all the information provided in order to make the most of your time here.
Advice for new members
Please refer to #getting-started if you are new to the server or to learning German.
Rules
Please refer to #rules for a summary of all our rules.
Channel and role directories
Please refer to #channel-directory and #role-directory for details about all our channels and roles.
How to report issues
Feel free to ping the <@&305455824174710787> tag whenever you need moderator assistance. You can also use our #report-issue button to create a private channel with moderators.

🔹 To suggest something which requires moderator action, you can use the suggestion button in the #suggestions channel.
🔹 To suggest something related to community-managed projects (lessons, FAQs, etc.) or to provide general feedback about the server, please use the #community-discussion channel.
🔹 To suggest resources for our curated resource list, please use the >resource command in the #resources channel. This is explained in more detail at the beginning of the resource list.
We ask you to remain civil and follow the server rules. Bear in mind, this server is frequented by minors as well, and we don’t want anyone to have an unpleasant experience.
Please let a <@&305455824174710787> know if there are any issues regarding the voice channels. As it can be difficult to monitor voice channels, the community plays a big role in maintaining a friendly environment and bringing awareness to any problems.
Please try to accommodate learners, especially beginners, in the Practice Room VC. If you’re a fluent or native speaker engaging exclusively with other fluent and native speakers, you might want to use German Only or Casual instead. Feel free to join ongoing sessions in Lessons but try not to be disruptive.
How to Join Lessons
Lessons (and other types of sessions) are most often held in the voice channels of the server. Typically, the Lessons VC is used, although it may be renamed during the lesson to display what kind of lesson is being held (for example “Beginner Grammar” or the name of the book being read).
Everyone is welcome to join in and listen to a lesson.
🔹 If a lesson is currently happening and you want to join but you aren’t sure how, just ask in the #lessons text channel.
🔹 If there is no lesson happening and you still have a question, or if you want to suggest a lesson topic, please use #community-discussion.
Please keep in mind that all hosts are volunteers giving their time freely to help you. The host decides the session time, date and content, and different hosts may run their sessions differently.
To see a list of upcoming sessions, type >sessions (or >lessons) in #botchannel. To get notifications about upcoming lessons, please subscribe to each type of lesson using the buttons in id:customize.
How to Host Lessons
Lesson hosting is a voluntary role and we welcome any members who are interested to host their own sessions. If you’re interested in running a session, create a ticket using #report-issue to discuss it with a <@&305455824174710787>.
Even if you feel inexperienced or have no idea what to run a session about, we’re always happy to provide guidance and teach people how they can hold learning sessions.

We offer a curated list of resources to all of our users, where you can find a bunch of useful materials to help you in your studies. It can be found in the description and pins of #resources, or here (http://bit.ly/gladresources), for your convenience. We often add new items, and contributions from everyone are welcome. If you feel there is something missing from the list, please feel free to post it in the #resources channel using the >resource command.
