Hello cute <@&749710876172484629> people. peepylove We'd like to talk to you about a slight reorganization of our channels. peepohappy

Discord has recently introduced forum channels (https://discord.com/blog/forum-channels-space-for-organized-conversation), which we had been testing in our #942470380692590632. With the feature fully released and supported by bots, we've now turned a few more channels into forums. In particular:

• The #1025098221653073940 forum now takes the place of the old #archived-sensitive-topics channel.
• The #1033125270217048246 forum is a cool new place to ask all your questions about living, studying and working in German-speaking countries, replacing the old #archived-culture-study-visa channel.
• And lastly, #1025098289521119293 replaced #archived-media, giving it some more structure and better organization. Unlike the other forums, #1025098289521119293 doesn't allow you to create your own threads, instead they will be added as needed.

We are also working on other interesting ways of using forums to improve your learning experience, which we will announce when they're ready. As always, let us know what you think in #community-discussion! peepoCheer

Hi everyone, we have some more exciting <@&749710876172484629> for you! As of today, everyone has been given the "Activity Permissions" role, which allows you to use the newly released Activities feature in all of our voice channels (https://discord.com/blog/server-activities-games-voice-watch-together).

The YouTube activity should now become the standard way of listening to music with friends in VC. No more fighting over who gets to use the bot, or having the bot take up precious Study Group slots. peepohappy We'll keep the old >play commands active for a little while longer, but please note that it will be removed in a couple of months. Please note though that all of our rules still apply, and you should not use the Activities feature to play any content that is against server rules.

Hello everyone, the Halloween event is now over! peepoPumpkinCandy We had 213 users competing in the two teams, and overall the Funky Frankenstein Fellows accumulated 4036 points, whereas the Goofy Ghost Gang got 4472 points and won the event! peepoCheer They get to keep their role for another week. peepohappy

It was certainly a very interesting competition, with the leading team changing a total of twenty times, which is a lot more than we've seen in any of the previous events! We'd like to congratulate both teams on their efforts, and thank you all for participating in the event! As always, let us know what you think in #community-discussion, we appreciate all your feedback and would love to hear your thoughts. peepoCheers

Hello <@&749710876172484629>, the Christmas event has come to an end. It what was a very interesting and close battle, with the leading team changing a number of times. Team Naughty has collected 20743 points, which was sadly a bit short of Team Nice's 20879 points, which have secured them a victory. We congratulate both teams on their effort, and as always, the winning team will get to keep their role for a week. pepeparty

Both teams were able to solve all 15 tasks that the elves put up, with gift giving being the deciding factor in who got to take the Christmas throne. christmas_treee If you want to check out the full storyline for task 13, you can find it here: https://bit.ly/glad-christmas2022-task13.

Altogether, 100 of our server members gave out gifts, and 1280 gifts were given to 130 different users.
To break down those numbers by team, Team Nice had a total of 46 members that gave out gifts, and together they managed to give 641 gifts, while their team received 601 gifts altogether. Team Naughty had 43 of their members giving gifts, and they gave a total of 606 gifts, while their team got 546 gifts in total.blobsmas

The most generous gift giver of the season was @chrome prawn who gave 52 gifts, while the title of the most loved member goes to @haughty cypress who received 109. christmaspepe

The Christmas Museum was also a great opportunity for teams to show off their creative sides. From Team Nice, the artwork that impressed us the most was submitted by @bronze zealot, whereas Team Naughty's @kindred silo submitted their best art piece. You can find their work attached below. They, and some other talented artists will receive a special gift from Santa soon. peepoGift

Additionally, you might have also noticed the Grinch role. This role started out with @fallow jetty, and spread to other members by pings! The first two healthy members that any Grinch pinged also got the Grinch role themselves. Through this, a total of 250 server members got the Grinch role, and you can find a graph of how the infection spread below. See if you can find yourself in it. peepohappy

Lastly, the Christmas event was by far the server's biggest event, and we put a lot of time and effort into making it. We hope that you've enjoyed it, and we'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts in #community-discussion .

Happy New Year and frohes neues Jahr lovely <@&749710876172484629> memes!

We would like to thank you for spending yet another year with us here on GLaD. We hope that 2022 brought you closer towards your goals and that the new year has just as many highlights in store for you as this one.

🔹 This year our dearest <@&279358588399648769>s managed to hold a total of 100 sessions. Thank you so much for all the time and hard work you dedicate to making this possible. A special thanks goes to @versed slate, @haughty cypress, and @indigo lance for organising more than half of these.
🔹 Over the course of the year we have implemented 33 server suggestions from the community, and we're excitedly looking forward to hearing even more of your suggestions!
🔹 2022 also focused on a lot of structural changes of the server, such as the introduction of the Channels And Roles category, various forum channels like #942470380692590632 and #1033125270217048246, the consolidation of #botgames, or the remodelling of #1025098289521119293.
However, we're still not nearly done and we plan to bring you many more exciting changes in the coming months.
🔹 Throughout the year we held various events, such as the April Fools Event, Halloween Event, and most recently the Christmas Event. Roughly 500 members actively participated in these, and we hope everyone had as much fun with them as we had.
🔹 Last but not least, arguably even the most important, the (almost) uncountable awesome interactions between all of you! Thank you for more than 4000000 messages and more than 2200000 minutes of VC in 2022!

We would also like to use this opportunity to announce our New Years Events: Study Tips and "How to learn German" presentations and workshops
Are you planning to improve your German as part of your New Years resolutions? Throughout the next few weeks, we will be hosting several events based around the topic "how to learn German". The sessions will go into topics like how to effectively study a language, how to create a study schedule that works for you, how to set realistic goals, different kinds of study tasks that may help you learn better, and much more! Keep an eye on the Events tab or #lesson-announcements where we will post the event info once the dates and times are confirmed.

As always, feel free to provide feedback in #community-discussion and we look forward to enjoying another great year with you all throughout 2023!

@boreal wedge, @hushed kite, @languid cobalt, @lyric zealot und @fast oyster hoffen ihr hattet einen guten Rutsch und bleibt uns auch im neuen Jahr weiterhin erhalten peepolove

<@&749710876172484629> Hi everyone, we have a new channel announcement for you today! 🎉

We've created a forum called #1065443550004781067 which you can use to help you find someone to study with, find people with shared interests or a similar time zone, or create some kind of group, such as a book club. As usual with new things, it's starting in a trial period - we may make changes to the forum in future, depending on how it's used, and we don't guarantee that it will stick around if it turns out to be more harmful than useful.

Let us know your feedback in #community-discussion and have a great day! ❤️

<@&749710876172484629> Hi everyone. Recently there has been an earthquake disaster in Turkey, as you most likely know. We also know that many of you want to help out by donating or volunteering your assistance, so here are some links you can use if you want to do that:

There are several Turkish charities, but Ahbap is considered to be the most trusted one: https://ahbap.org/disasters-turkey

Other recommended services are Turkish-based AKUT (https://www.akut.org.tr/en/about-akut), Germany-based Aktion Deutschland Hilft (https://www.aktion-deutschland-hilft.de/en/), Australian-based Emergency Action Alliance (https://emergencyaction.org.au/turkeysyriaearthquake), and international CARE (https://www.care.org/). There are also many other organisations you can donate to, but there are also many scams, including fake websites, that take advantage of the situation, so please make sure that you are donating to a trusted organisation.

In some parts of the world, you may be able to donate or volunteer in person at help centres in your area.

We want to minimize the risk of scams on the server, so please report any suspicious donation requests to the moderation team and direct people to this announcement instead. Feel free to contact us using #report-issue for any questions or concerns regarding this announcement.

Hello cute <@&749710876172484629> people, we have a few announcements that we want to make. peepohappy Don't mind the date, they're real we swear. peepoLaugh

✨ Firstly, Discord recently introduced an improved new user experience, through a feature called Onboarding. Upon joining the server, members are prompted with questions that let them customize their experience and which channels they get to see. However, even after joining the server, the answers can be changed at any time in id:customize, which means that you can do it too! This feature is replacing our old #get-roles channel, so be sure to check it out here (or on the top of your channel list) if you'd like to customize your roles and channels.
If you're interested in learning more about Onboarding in general, there's also the Discord FAQ article: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/11074987197975-Community-Onboarding-FAQ

❓ We'd also like to announce that we are currently running a survey on the #1065443550004781067. After going through a trial period, we're ready to decide how the channel will end up looking, so if you want to have a say, be sure to check the survey out here. https://forms.gle/EuKnJfKaDEqCBVFw8

goodmod Lastly, as you might be aware, @proper plaza has been a part of the staff team as a Helper for quite some time now, where she helped keep the community safe, contributed FAQ articles and study materials, helped out during sessions and discussed upcoming changes to the server. And if all of that wasn't already enough, a few weeks ago, she's also generously decided to give more of her time to the community by taking on the role of a <@&305455824174710787>, where she's doing a fantastic job already. Give her a cute reaction to show your appreciation. peepoCheer

🔮 With Onboarding now live, we plan to continue bringing you some more improvements to the channel structure in the near future. Please let us know what you think of the new experience in #community-discussion, or head over to #suggestions if you'd like to share new ideas with the community. We hope you have a wonderful day and continue improving on your German learning journey. peepoBlush

Ho Ho Ho everyone <@&749710876172484629>!
Despite tonight being the busiest time of the year for him, Santa has reached out and asked us to clarify a few things about our current Christmas event.
In order to participate you should head over to #1188433312776200293 to grab a team role and then take on various #1188433390731530270. If you're not seeing all server channels by default, make sure to subscribe to the Christmas category channels by using id:customize.

Christmas is all about coming together, so of course you have the option to unlock a team channel for ease of communication.
Lastly, what's Christmas without presents? Obtain all sorts of items from @leaden coral by matching the bot's reaction on some messages and use the user context interaction to give gifts to other members of the server! (right click a user profile and then choose Apps)
You can also manage your own gift inventory by using the Christmas event's slash commands (simply type /inventory and then pick one of the options).

@boreal wedge, @hushed kite, @lyric zealot, @languid cobalt, @fast oyster and @proper plaza wish you a Merry Christmas 🎄 santa_horbert

Hello beautiful <@&749710876172484629> people, the Christmas event has now come to an end! 🎄

For most of the event, <@&1188431017191690310> was able to maintain a lead, at one point growing their advantage to 700 points! On the final day, the <@&1188431086057963550> were able to close the gap and we've seen the leading team change 11 times! After a very close battle until the very end, the <@&1188431086057963550> secured the victory with 3853 points, while the <@&1188431017191690310> got 3563 points. Congratulations to both teams for their efforts! wumpus_party

In total 152 people joined a team, and 193 players participated in the event by collecting items and giving or receiving gifts. Overall, you've collected 1108 items, and given 284 gifts! 🎁

The most generous person this year was @chrome prawn, whereas the person who received the most gifts was @soft mural. @chrome prawn also collected 149 items, and donated 98 of them to complete challenges. @limber bridge was the biggest hoarder, collecting a total of 25 items in their inventory and storage. And we don't quite know what was up with @bronze zealot, but they threw 66 items into the trash. 🤨

Speaking of throwing things into the trash, a total of 19 gifts was thrown away, and 45 gifts were re-gifted. @patent salmon's gifts seemed to be very popular, and 11 of them made it into other members' storages. @chrome prawn's sugar-coated yo-yo changed hands 6 times, being given to @soft mural, then to @ancient umbra, then back to @soft mural, after which it was returned to @chrome prawn, only to end up in the hands of the one person who could truly appreciate it - @still coral. peepohappy

Your inventory and storage will remain accessible for a week following the event, if you want to make screenshots and save the memories.

And for some final stats, 14 members made it into the ⭐ <@&1188433032017891348> ⭐ , and 8 members completed the costume challenge, earning themselves a custom role.

While the event is over, there's still some stuff left to do. To celebrate the holidays, we're holding a raffle where you have a chance to win some pretty neat prizes. Check it out in #1189517434533724200.

And with that, we'd like to thank you all for participating, we hope you've had lots of fun in the event, and that you'll spend the final few days of the year happy and healthy. Thank you for continuously supporting the server and learning German with us. 💖

Hi everyone <@&749710876172484629> peepolove

We'd like to talk about some changes we've made regarding the server's security.

🔹 Verification level

Ever since GLaD became a community server years ago, the server's verification level had been set to medium. As a newcomer, this meant that all you had to do is be registered on Discord for more than 5 minutes, and you were all set to use the server.
Given the size of the server and the frequent influx of bot accounts and trolls, in order to better protect everyone wanting to learn German here, we have decided to set the verification level to the highest level, which from now on will require all new members to have a verified phone number linked to their account before they'll be able to interact with the server.

If you're a member of the server at the time of this announcement, this limitation will not affect you.

🔹 Paused DMs

Another problem that has come to our attention is the increasing amount of unsolicited messages, spam, and scam attempts in DMs.
Starting today, server members will no longer be able to DM other server members unless they are friends with that member or share another common server where DMs are open. Please make sure to adjust your friend list accordingly.

If you're a member of the server at the time of this announcement, this limitation will affect you too.

As a server, our options to protect your DMs are limited, so we still urge you to report any suspicious messages in #report-issue if it's coming from one of our server members.

🔹 Impersonation of moderators

We've recently had a few incidents of users making fake accounts copying the profiles of moderators as well as other server members. We want to make it clear: we do not contact people about moderation issues using DMs.
If someone that you think is a moderator contacts you privately, please double check the username and report it to us if it seems strange. If you have any doubts, please feel free to contact us using #report-issue or even just ping us in the public chats to confirm. If someone contacts you with any kind of threats or demands, even if it looks similar to a moderator's account, please report that as well, as these fake accounts may try to scare you with threats about getting banned.

If you have any questions or feedback, please let us know what you think in #community-discussion . peepolove

If you get a friend request or message from someone who appears to be our bot, or a staff member, please make sure to verify it! <@&749710876172484629> Hi everyone! A couple of announcements for you all today.

Other-Languages Forum Trial

We’re happy to announce a new feature we’ll be trialling for the next few weeks: a new “other languages” forum! 🎉🎉🎉

Until now #other-languages has just been a regular text channel, but we want to test out how well a forum would work as a replacement for that. The existing #other-languages channel will not be removed until the trial is over and we make the final decision.

The new forum will have individual threads for each language (or closely related languages, where appropriate) but we want to start with just a few languages and add more over time. To choose the first languages, we made a poll. Please vote for any languages you plan to use in the forum. You can vote for more than one option.

Link to the polls: #community-discussion message

The new forum will be opened after the poll finishes in 1 week. We will post another announcement at that time.

New Server Tag

We have also added a new server tag which you can apply to your profile. The option to choose a server tag can be found in your Profile settings.

Have a great day!

<@&229594762762649601> Hello learners! First of all, apologies for pinging all of you, since I know some people don't like it when that's done, but we do try to limit our pings and really have something potentially nice/useful to share with you this time. :)
We've had some ideas about new lesson types and would like to hear your opinions about one that we'd like to prototype. Namely, the Writing lesson, where you could write a text every week and have it corrected and sent back to you. We're not exactly sure how we want it done though, so we'd like to hear your opinions. So please fill out our survey and tell us what you'd like to see. https://goo.gl/forms/SCH23mzYXSN8lP8i1

<@&229594762762649601> Hello everyone! Wormic isn't available for our regular lesson, and since he likes those and wants to do them himself, we've decided to do a trial run of the writing lessons we've had planned. The responses we've gotten in the survey were positive enough and since everyone seems to like it, we'll definitely give it a go. This should give us all an idea of how things are going to look like, and then we'll make some final tweaks and turn it into a regular thing.
So how do things go? We'll be starting at 8 PM CEST (cca 10 minutes) and will give you all a topic. If you don't like it, you're free to write about whatever you like. THEN WHAT? Well, we don't know. We'll see as the lesson progresses.
Also, if you already haven't, fill out a quick survey about the writing lesson in #announcements

#

Hello everyone! After reviewing the results of the Writing lessons survey, we have an idea of how we’d like things to be done and would like to share the results with you.
Most of you have said that they would like to do something like this, so we will keep on doing these lessons. That being said, this week’s topic has already been posted in #writing, so check that out and participate if you want to.
Regarding the topic choice, a majority believes that there should be a choice between multiple topics, with a decent chunk wanting freedom to choose on their own. Because of this, we’ve decided to give out one topic for more advanced writers, one for beginners, and allow you to choose your own if you don’t like our choices.
We’re happy that all of you have said that they would be fine with more experienced learners correcting their work before the natives do, so we’re doing that too. If you are a B/C level speaker feel free to pick a work from #writing and have a go at it. If, however, you’re a native speaker who would like to help make sure that the final versions are okay, get in touch with us, and we’ll get you started. Huge thanks to everyone who decides to help, though.
Your work can be submitted either in the #writing channel, or PM’d to a moderator if you don’t want it to be public. Either way, we would prefer if you wrote it in a Google Doc, since it makes it easier for us to correct it and easier for you to compare the differences between the two versions. Still if you’re not able to do so, we don’t mind. To archive the works for future reference, we will be making our own Google Doc, where the original and the corrected version will be displayed side by side. But again, making mistakes is an essential part of learning, and having these works available to look at could really help other learners, so we don’t encourage secrecy here.

#

There were also other suggestions which deserve a mention: Short stories based on a theme would certainly be fun, and will probably show up from time to time as a topic for more advanced learners. Semi-weekly schedule - to be honest, we don’t know ourselves how popular the lessons will become and how much time we’ll be able to devote to correcting, but we seem to have enough help available to be able to make it in a week. We will therefore try to put out a new topic every week for those who have a bit more time on their hands, and if you don’t that’s perfectly fine too, you can always come back to the topics you missed later. That’s the best thing about writing lessons. Flexibility³. Freeform writing - is already there, since you’re allowed to choose your own topic, so have fun. :D
Another suggestion that popped up quite often is making voice chat great again more active, and possibly introducing speaking lessons. To address the first point, we hope that with the new growth of our community, the voice chat will get some more well-deserved love. As for the lessons, we would love to introduce speaking lessons, as well as many more in the future, but are still considering organizational issues and looking for more people to help out with those. If you have any suggestions in general, or would possibly like to offer us a helping hand, feel free to get in touch.
Once again, thank you all for taking the time to fill out the survey and read this huge wall of text. ♥

A quick note for everyone, the #282831147942281216 channel has been updated. The most important changes are:

• New lessons and their times are now in there.
• Descriptions of the voice channels and their purposes. Most importantly, don't banter in Practice Room
if there are people who actually want to use it for practice, Casual is a better place to do so.
• We now have a list of all the old writing prompts, reading circle texts and grammar lessons.
• Rule 2 was updated to be more precise. It now includes general NSFW content.
• Questionable/malicious files are now disallowed. Duh.

Hello! We've decided to define the rules about politics more precisely for everyone! All of these changes will be in #282831147942281216 too, but a quick overview of the changes is:
• Please keep all politics-related talk out of #general. It is the first place where new members come and we don't want them to run straight into a flamewar.
• We'll allow conversations about politics of the DACH countries in #german-only, for sake of practice. If we're already taking about it, we might as well learn something from it too. #voice-chat is okay too, if you're using the voice channels.
• As always, other rules still apply, so a discussion is only allowed as long as it's a civil discussion. Most importantly, we won't allow any form of discrimination, and ask you to back out from such conversations should one arise.
All of these changes will be in effect tomorrow, when the changes appear in #282831147942281216. Have a lovely day! 😄
Edit: #282831147942281216 has now been updated. Have fun. ❤

@everyone We are introducing a new role, Study Partner! Study Partner is supposed to be used by people that are looking for a person to study with, both people that are looking to help and learners. The idea behind it is that people would give the role to themselves during a time where they want to help or study and remove it once they are done. Anyone with this role will be seperated from the list they were on previously (online or native), and will be shown under the "Study Partner" role on the side barThe role can be added or removed from you by using the command ">gr Study Partner" and ">rr Study Partner" respectively.

boreal wedge
#

Hello lovely people. We've updated the bot to handle the new Study Buddy role better. It's now entirely managed by the >studybuddy (or >sbud) command.
Use >sbud <duration> <activity> to tell the world that you're currently learning. For example >sbud 2h Learning about verbs would let the bot know what you're learning and it will automatically remove the role from you after two hours. Using >sbud all will let you see what everyone is learning and >sbud cancel will let you end your learning session prematurely.
The rest remains as it was before. Whether you're a learner or a native speaker, you'll still get separated out from everyone else so that the others can spot you easier. Natives can use the role to indicate that they're willing to help any motivated learners. Have fun! ❤

To make sure that it's easy to find partners, we'd like to ask you two things. Firstly, delete your messages if you no longer have interest in a certain topic, just to keep the channel nice and clean. And also keep conversation out of this channel. Hey memes,

We decided to change the channel names and categories based on your feedback, in order to make them more consistent. We have also changed how "General Discussion" works. We now have four channels that work like so:

#general - basically stays the same: general chatter in English or German
#general-2 - the same as #general , but discussions are encouraged to be done in German with English used as a tool to help explain things or when you get stuck. This is basically a more beginner friendly #german-only
#german-only and #other-languages - these remain as they were

We also moved several channels into a new category called "Community". These hold channels for discussions over topics like #gaming and #science (but actually math)

You can join the group by typing >sub totd.

In the near future, we will provide a more formal set of guidelines for the group, but for now, please use common sense when deciding what to post. Remember, some things are better suited to #archived-media.

Hey inferior bipedal creatures!

As some of you have already noticed, there have been a few changes on the server over the past few days. The biggest change is that our previous owner, 0x1, who has done a lot for us in his years on the server, has decided to step down due to personal reasons and has passed the ownership to another member of the mod team. (Due to these reasons, we'd like to ask that you respect 0x1's personal space for the time being.)

That would namely be me, your new equine overlord.

During this process there was and still is a bit of uncertainty and a few problems we need to work through (including some bot hiccups), so we apologise if there are any inconveniences. If you have any questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to DM one of the moderators about it.

Aside from that, we have a lot of changes, both big and small, that we’ve been working on over the past year and will continue to work on now, especially over the next month. We’ll let you delicious humans know as things develop and get your input when it comes to any important decisions, even more so than in the past. We really want to focus on encouraging community growth and engagement throughout the rest of 2019 and onwards.

Have a great day and make sure to practise some German today (and every day)! <3

P.S. #282831147942281216 has been updated, so you are obligated to check that out.

Hello everyone. Today we had a mishap with one of our roles being set to pingable/mentionable by accident and it caused a bit of chaos. We've temporarily set many of the channels to slowmode to help deal with the issue. We'll try our best to deal with it. Thanks. ❤️

Hello lovely people,

as discussed above, we plan to start implementing some changes to make the server better for everyone. We've started by reorganizing the channel list a bit. The top channels are now grouped, the community category has been split up into two to keep things tidy, we have created #languages which should be a place to go when you wish to discuss languages, their grammar or learning processes, or simply when #other-languages feels a bit too crowded.
Lastly we've decided to give the very popular request of making voice channels with limited user numbers a try. These channels are meant to be used for small study groups, and we'll be particularly strict about their occupants being disturbed. As always, we expect you to show respect to others and not interrupt or inconvenience them.

On a semi-related note, as 0x1 has left the server, his account name displayed as white/black, which we thought might be confusing for newcomers, so we've reposted the server rules without making any modifications to them. Also, since Pferd wants to focus more on the learning aspects of this server rather than its management, we have agreed to pass the ownership role to me. I remain committed to the same values he outlined in an earlier announcement, we'll do our best to be more open, accepting, caring and to make this server a better place for learners and its community. With the bot being rewritten, there's room for all sorts of improvements and we'll be reaching out to the community for thoughts and feedback when we're ready to start working on the new features.

As always, thank you for your continued support and have a lovely day. ❤️

Hello everyone. We thought we'd make a small security PSA. discordPolice

Discord recently introduced a login method where when attempting to log in from your PC, you're prompted to scan a QR code on your phone. After you've scanned it, the mobile app will prompt you to confirm that you're logging into another device, and if you do, you'll log onto your PC without the need for an email, password or 2FA.

While this is a convenient login method, there is also a phishing attack going on, that exploits this feature. People take the QR code that they are given, send it to others claiming that scanning the code will give them Nitro or similar benefits, whereas the code actually gives them access to your account, even if they don't know any of your login details. However, if you read what you're clicking and don't scan any weird QR codes from strangers, you should be absolutely fine.

Stay safe! GWcmeisterPeepoLove

Heyo lovely memes,

Perhaps you've noticed that we've created two new channels, #study-tasks and #community-discussion.
The purpose of #study-tasks is to frequently provide you with tasks you can work on to practice your German. Note that #study-tasks acts as a replacement for #531485369154273280 and #531447608888000522, which will be deleted at the end of this month.
However, in order to keep the option to ping you for new entries, the groups themselves will persist.

#community-discussion is for feedback and discussions related to any community projects and content, such as lessons and FAQs or the aforementioned tasks.
If you have any further ideas, please let us know in #suggestions!

Hallo zusammen! We’ve made a few small changes to the server today.

First of all, we’re renaming the Learning German role to GLaD Member. Our main motivation for this is that we know some people, especially native speakers, feel uncomfortable with a role called “Learning German”, as they don’t consider themselves learners. Every member of the server now has this role.

Secondly, we’ve renamed the group channels to be a little more consistent. So #g-coding is renamed to #coding and #g-ouija is renamed to #ouija. The naming inconsistency came from various changes that have been made to the group system since it was created, which are now gradually being resolved.

Thirdly, we’ve recently added a new group channel: #arts-and-crafts. In order to access #arts-and-crafts, which is our new art channel, you must subscribe to the art group by typing >sub art in #botchannel.

Fourthly, we wish to introduce a new convention for correcting texts in #writing. If you correct a text and believe your correction to be complete, please add an emoji reaction to the original post with the emoji 📝. You don’t need to do this if you only correct part of the text. We will also be pinning a document detailing more information about the best practices for using #writing, which you will be able to reference at any time.

#

_ _
Lastly, we know that recent events surrounding the coronavirus COVID-19 have been causing a lot of anxiety and fueling discussion over the issue. Unfortunately, this topic makes a lot of people very uncomfortable and we have found it to be particularly disruptive to the learning atmosphere of the server. As a result of these concerns, we ask that people no longer discuss this topic in any of the channels on the server, including #german-only and the voice channels.

Of course, many of us are impacted on a personal level by the recent circumstances, and you are welcome to talk about events which are impacting your life directly. For example, you may discuss your classes being cancelled, being unable to visit relatives, difficulty buying your groceries at the supermarket, and so on. Additionally, if you have important questions about life in German-speaking countries and how you might be impacted if you live/stay there, feel free to ask these questions in #archived-culture-study-visa.

But please do not discuss matters that go beyond these personal impacts. We will be enforcing this as strictly as possible. Members are encouraged to remind their fellow members to follow these restrictions and to notify a moderator if they continue.

We would also like to add a general reminder of the following server rule: if someone is uncomfortable and asks you to change a conversation topic, please respect their request and do so immediately. You may continue the discussion in DMs instead, assuming the person you’re talking to is okay with that.

Hello delicious learners,

A new monthly study task has been introduced by one of our lovely members, @graceful kernel! These tasks are focused around improving your pronunciation skills.

Every month, some texts will be published in #study-tasks which you can record yourself reading out. The type of texts are:

  • Tongue twisters
  • An excerpt from a German text, such as a book
  • one poem or poem extract

The first tasks can be found here: https://discordapp.com/channels/221708975698083841/674010146703147048/698431593425141780

If you’re a beginner and the texts seem too formidable, it’s okay, just read out a sentence or two and slowly the texts will stop being so scary.

How it Works

Choose a text from #study-tasks
Record yourself reading the text with your phone or an online service like https://vocaroo.com/
Post your recording in #beginner-german

A nice member of the community will evaluate your pronunciation and let you know what they think!

Feel free to also request how you’d like to receive your feedback; through a message or in one of the voice channels on the server.

How to Help

If you would like to help or suggest feedback, you can do so in #community-discussion

Heyo lovely memes,

we wanted to let you know that we have redefined our moderation guidelines.
The guidelines aim to give some insight into how the moderation on this server works, how the team reaches decisions and what kind of expectations and requirements moderators have to meet.

Heyo lovely memes,

a frequently requested feature has made its way back to the bot: the music feature!
If you ask nicely, @deep sigil will play any YT song for you (see >help play).

However, please do note that the played content should always be in line with the server rules. Do not hog the bot or attempt to play nationalistic, racist, disturbing, NSFW or any other not tolerated content with the bot, as doing so will get you blacklisted from using the command without prior notice.
When in doubt, see #rules or ask a moderator.

Greetings delectable morsels,

We have added a special new emoji, namely: needsimprovement

You can use this emoji to indicate that a message contains grammatical errors or sounds otherwise unnatural. For example, you might mark this sentence with the emoji:

Alle Möhren gehört das Pferd

This is to help a learner notice that there is a mistake in their message without interrupting the flow of the conversation. The message can then be corrected, or discussed in another channel (for example, #beginner-german), or even ignored. It's up to you.

Please do not abuse or spam the emoji; be nice to each other.

If you have any ideas on how else this emoji can be used or any other improvements, please let us know in #community-discussion And of course, a big thanks to @edgy pumice for the idea and emoji itself!

Hey everyone! We're excited to announce a new bot command today.

We know that people have been interested for a while in an easier way to view upcoming lessons/sessions, so we've implemented the new command >session list (or just >sessions), which will give you a list of all upcoming scheduled sessions! You can then use the command >session info [ID#] to see posts/announcements for a session with a specific ID #. Feel free to use these commands in #botchannel any time! But please do not spam #lessons with these commands. And please also let us know your thoughts/feedback on the feature in #suggestions.

For those of you who are interested in hosting sessions and don't know their way around the bot, feel free to ask for help in #community-discussion or send us a DM.

@here If you're currently online and a member of our server, you might have received DMs from multiple spam bots a couple of minutes ago. We've banned all the accounts that were involved as fast as we could. Still, we'd like to note that you should ignore the links you received, as they are probably a scam and report the accounts in question.
Thank you for your patience and sorry for the ping. ♥️

Hey @everyone

We have introduced a new role called the "News" role. This role's purpose is to allow people to be immediately informed when annoucements are made. It is intended as a compromise for those who wish to remain informed of server changes without us having to ping everyone. You can still access #announcements without the role, but you won't get pings.

You can subscribe to this role by doing >sub News in #botchannel

Sorry for the ping! Ree your hearts away.

Hey little learners,

We are currently missing a server banner, and are interested in seeing what ideas the community has for one! For that reason, we will hold a little contest from 1st September to 1st October for the design of the server banner.

You could design a banner in Photoshop from pictures or create it from scratch yourself, anything is welcome! If you would like to submit something, please do so in #community-discussion and let a moderator know.

Any submission must adhere to a few rules:

  1. It must have something to do with the German language.
  2. It cannot contain any product placement, offensive material, or matter of that nature.
  3. It must adhere to the "server banner guidelines" detailed here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028716472-Server-Banner-Background-Invite-Splash-Image

Which server banner is chosen will ultimately be decided by the moderation team, but the whole community is welcome to give feedback and indicate their preferences.

Hello lovely memers. We would like to give an update regarding the banner contest.

First of all, we thank everyone who has submitted an entry so far. We've received some good submissions and we appreciate the effort all of you put in. Additionally, some more members have expressed the intention to play around with design prototypes and submit an entry, so we've decided to extend the submission deadline by two more weeks in the interest of getting the widest range of submissions.

Some of us have also expressed that we would like to see a couple of simple, minimalist designs featuring a narrow selection of colors and not too many details or gradients. Though of course, you can still submit anything you like and all entries will ultimately be considered and evaluated!

Bikkest of luvs to you all. peepoLove2

Hello everyone!
After considering all of the entries that were submitted in the banner contest, we have decided to go with @graceful kernel's entry, which you can currently see as the server's banner. We sincerely thank her for her entry and we also appreciate and thank everyone else who participated and gave feedback on the entries! peepoLove2

The new banner features a barn swallow and a golden eagle, which are national birds of Austria and Germany, as well as Knapweed, the national flower of Germany, and Edelweiß, the national flower of Switzerland and Austria. Let us know what you think of it in #community-discussion, all feedback is appreciated! aPeepoCheer

<@&749710876172484629> Hello loveliest memers! peepyLove

We would like to wish everyone who celebrates it a Merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎉 Yesterday we also hit the 30,000 members mark, so our biggest thanks goes to the entire community for supporting us and learning with us! From lurkers to regulars, we appreciate you all and hope that we will be able to continue assisting you all on your learning journey. ❤️

With that being said, we also have a special holiday gift that we would like to present to the community! 🎁 Our resource list has been restructured and updated with additional resources to help you learn more effectively. You can check it out at http://bit.ly/gladresources and give us your feedback in #community-discussion!

Many of these resources come from the community, for which we are grateful to all of you! To make sure we see all your resources and the new list can constantly be expanded, we introduced a new command. >resource works similar to >suggest, allowing you to suggest new entries for the list in #resources. When using it, provide us with a short description of your resource and a link to it (e.g., >resource Nicos Weg - a series for beginners https://learngerman.dw.com/en/beginners/c-36519789), and you'll be guaranteed that we won't miss it!

Once again, thank you for everything, take care of yourself and enjoy the holidays! 🍪💝

Hello, lovely people!
It has been a hard and unusual year for a lot of us due to some stinky not quite living but kinda living thing going around and we hope that things will change this year! May we win that fierce battle against whatever possible cause for dissatisfaction we come up against and may this year be better than all those that came before 😤
We'd like to thank you for your continuous support and relentless correcting of texts, answering difficult grammar questions and being an awesome community.
@boreal wedge, @carmine birch, @rain knoll, @hushed kite, @lyric zealot und @languid cobalt hoffen ihr hattet einen guten Rutsch und wünschen euch ein frohes neues Jahr 🎉

In other <@&749710876172484629>, we've also introduced a new role called <@&793874125222576128> that will hopefully mitigate some low effort trolling in VC by preventing new users from joining the voice channels within their first 15 minutes on the server. For recently created accounts the limit will be 30 minutes instead.
While this might be slightly inconvenient for the majority of new users, we've decided to take this step due to some of them unfortunately not really wanting to have a great time with us at all :c
And of course, as always, let us know your opinion on this in #community-discussion!

Heyo lovely <@&749710876172484629> memes,

we've made a couple of changes to the server and wanted to let you know about them peepolove

🔹 We've created two new voice channels called Streaming 1 and Streaming 2, as well as enabled streaming for everyone in the Gaming voice channel and the Study Groups.
The Television Fan role has been renamed to Streaming.
Please keep in mind that streamed content should adhere to the server rules and streaming in the Study Group VCs should be related to learning German. If you'd just like to show your friends something cool or play games, please use the Gaming or Streaming VCs.

🔹 The server emoji life cycle has been overhauled. Starting next month, we will phase out unused emojis every month to make room for community suggestions. If you'd like to suggest an emoji, please use #community-discussion so the community can react with 👍 or a similar reaction.

🔹 The Youtube filter in #general has been adjusted so it only removes unescaped links. You can escape links by surrounding them with <>, e.g. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ>

🔹 In order to make our moderation more transparent we've made the Audit Logs public. You can access them by clicking on the server name, Server Settings and then Audit Log.

Lastly we'd like to promote our Valentine's Day writing contest! You can find all the necessary info here: <#study-tasks message>

Hello happy peepies, we want to let you know about a couple of changes that we've made. peepoHappy5

First of all, as a result of the poll in #community-discussion, we have decided to remove the NSFW aspects of the #politics-nsfw channel. A NSFW channel was always a popular request, and we decided to give it a shot, but during the trial period, we didn't see NSFW topics getting much attention from the community, and we agree that they have no place on this server. As such, the channel has now been cleared and renamed to #archived-sensitive-topics. It is no longer marked as NSFW nor is it age-restricted. We would like to thank everyone who gave us feedback about the channel during the trial period.

Additionally, there have often been requests to create special channels for various sport events. While this is not a very practical solution, we have decided to create a general #821441926380388423 group that you can join by running >sub sports in the #botchannel.

Lastly, we want to remind everyone of a convention that we established in the #writing channel. Once a post has been corrected, please consider reacting to it with the 📝 emote to let everyone know that the document has been checked already.

Biklieb and bik thanks for all your feedback and support. peepyLove <@&749710876172484629>

Hello <@&749710876172484629> peepyLove,

A new monthly study task has been introduced by our resident horse! shocked_horse These tasks are focused around improving your grammar skills.

Every month, some short tasks will be published in #study-tasks which will allow you to learn new grammar concepts or test the knowledge that you already have. This will cover topics from the tenses to the passive voice.

The first tasks can be found here: #study-tasks message

If you’re a beginner and the tasks seem too formidable, feel free to ask for help in #questions and research the grammar topics. You don't have to guess!

How it Works

Subscribe to the Grammar group in #botchannel >sub Grammar
Take some tasks from the associated message in #study-tasks
Try to do the tasks by yourself and post your attempts as a Google Doc in #writing

A nice member of the community will evaluate your attempts and let you know what they think! This should be done in #corrections so that texts do not go unnoticed in #writing.

Hello lovely memers peepyLove,

we'd like to share some <@&749710876172484629> with you again. Based on your feedback that we have received in the past, we have decided to switch up our approach to the role assignment method a bit. Reaction roles were always a popular request, and with Discord's new button feature being rolled out last week, we thought that this system would be a great chance to test it out. Check out the new system in #850404908946423828 and as always, tell us what you think in #community-discussion! aPeepoCheer
As a backup, the old >sub and >cefr commands still work as well.

Hello again lovely <@&749710876172484629> people. peepyLove

As of today, a new button has been added to the #282831147942281216 channel that can be used to report issues or bring up various concerns to the moderation team in private. When you press this button, a new private channel will be opened with just you and the moderation team, in which you will be able to explain your issue in detail and know that the team will see it.
This feature is still experimental and is meant to serve as a replacement to DMing individual moderators about sensitive matters that require privacy. As usual, please do not abuse the feature or use it for jokes, since that wastes our time, and you may be blocked from similar features in the future. PeepoCry

If you do end up using it, please tell us what you think in #community-discussion. ❤️

Hey everyone! The session holders of GLaD have decided to plan out a marathon of German learning sessions for everyone over July and August, to make the most of the holiday period. This means we’ll try to run as many reading sessions, grammar lessons, and other activities as we can throughout the 2 months. We’re still working out the dates and times, so we’ll update you with more information soon, along with a calendar.

As usual, we’re always looking for more people to host sessions for us, so if you’re interested in helping us out, just send me a DM. Even if you don’t have an idea for a session or you’ve never hosted a session before, don’t worry - we have plenty of ideas to offer and we can guide you through the process!

Lastly, a special part of the holiday marathon that we want to announce is a “study group” event. The idea is that we’ll assign you to a group of 4-5 other learners and everyone in the group can practice together and support each other throughout the 2 months. Please fill out the form below to sign up.

We’re also looking for fluent and native speakers to act as “mentors” to these groups. The role of a mentor is simply to help the study group out by offering corrections and answering questions about the most natural way to say things in German. You don’t need to be a grammar expert or a teacher to be a mentor - although we highly appreciate those who can offer those skills as well.

Please note that we can’t guarantee a mentor for each group, as it entirely depends on how many people volunteer.

To sign up as a study group member and/or mentor, please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/nkB9FyAgJrxpP8aU6

we've made a couple of changes to the server structure and wanted to share some more info on the upcoming sessions marathon peepolove

🔹In order to be more consistent, the following channels have been renamed to match the rest of the channel names:
#allgemein -> #general-2
#nur-deutsch-> #german-only
#andere-sprachen -> #other-languages
#leben-unterm-dach -> #archived-culture-study-visa
#geg-essen -> #food
#sprach-chat -> #voice-chat-2

🔹In an attempt to make navigating the server easier, the following categories have been restructured:
General Discussion
#beginner-german is now part of this category

Learning
#writing, #corrections, #pronunciation, #resources and #thing-of-the-day have been removed from this category

Community
#study-tasks has been removed from this category

Resources
New category featuring #resources, #study-tasks and #thing-of-the-day

Feedback and Corrections
New category featuring #writing, #corrections and #pronunciation

🔹As a temporary experiment we have enabled Discord Discovery to make the server more visible to other Discord users.
If you'd like to learn more about Discovery, you can find additional info here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023968311-Server-Discovery

🔹Grab your calendar and cancel every appointment that is not related to learning German over July and August!
On Friday the 2nd of July we're starting off our sessions marathon with a welcome event consisting of an introduction and a movie night. You can find the session schedule for these two months here: https://bit.ly/gladholidaysessions
Please keep in mind that all hosts are volunteers and that the calendar is always subject to change.
We'll still make announcements for all sessions as usual, so subscribe to the relevant #850404908946423828 if you want to get pinged.

🔹We are currently finalizing the groups for the study group event (more info here: <#announcements message>). We will create a new category for the duration of the event that aims to assist the mentors and help you find each other.
If you've signed up for the event but don't see a channel by July 1st, missed the original announcement, or would like to join at a later point, please let a <@&305455824174710787> know.

Hello lovely <@&749710876172484629> people. This is just a small notice about a technical change we made. peepyLove

In the past, people have often requested additional voice chat channels to be made, and we've ended up with a few of those, such as two Casual channels, two German Only channels, etc. Most of the time however, these channels sit unused, and sometimes, you might even want more than two. Because of this, we're currently beta testing a system that will dynamically create voice channels based on usage. Initially, it will only create up to 2 channels as before, but if the testing goes okay, we'll have the ability to change this to a higher number whenever necessary.

Currently, this system is active for the Casual and German Only channels. You can recognize them by the colorful dots next to their names. If you're not a fan of the dots, neither are we, but at the moment, it's the best we can do due to some limitations from Discord's side. peepoSad

It's still a very young feature, and we're unsure of how it will ultimately end up looking, so if you get a chance to use it or discover any problems with it, please let us know in #community-discussion. All feedback is very much appreciated here! peepoCheer

Update 2021-07-06: We've made some changes based on the feedback we've seen. In particular, the circles will now not display if only one channel is up. Due to Discord being a bit strict with rate limits, this may take some time to become consistent across channels. Additionally, since the early testing seems to have worked out okay, we want to see how the feature scales, so it has been enabled for Practice Room, Streaming and Study Group voice chats too. All four are still only creating at most one copy though.

Update 2021-07-08: The German Only channel will now have up to 3 active instances at the same time, so we can see how that goes.

Hi beautiful <@&749710876172484629> memers! We again have some more changes to talk about. peepoHappy5

voice_channels As you may have noticed, the previously announced dynamic VC feature has been expanded and now covers all major voice channels. We are currently testing the system with up to 3 clones for some channels.

📬 We've also been trying out a new ticket system and we're pretty happy with how it's gone so far. However, we got some feedback that we should make the system more visible, so it now has its own channel - #report-issue.

🎮 Lastly, we have a new game for people to try out! @limpid wren recently suggested a game where you're given sequences of 3 letters and are expected to find a German word that contains them, with some fun twists involved teas_black teas_green teas_red. We are now publicly testing this system in #tea-word-game. It may still be a bit buggy and we have more features planned, but based on some private testing that we did, the game is really fun and we encourage you to check it out. Check the first pinned message in the channel or run >help tea for more info when you're there. You can get the required role from #850404908946423828!

As always, we really appreciate your feedback and are happy to make changes based on it, so please let us know what you think in #community-discussion! peepyLove

Hello lovely people! peepyLove <@&749710876172484629>

Today is the server's 5th birthday! The server was created on <t:1472922735>, exactly 5 years ago! 🎉

Back in 2016, we started out as a small server struggling to reach even 1000 users. A lot of the things we know and love today were not there at the start, such as lessons, CEFR roles, our curated resource list, offtopic groups and even written out rules. Over the years, with your support and input, we've managed to grow the server to just under 46,000 members, and expand the ways in which we can support learners! peepohappy

Hello everyone, quick safety announcement. Wump

We've had a raid of 300 bots DMing people free nitro scams. Please ignore any message you've received, and generally be careful of what links you click on and what you download. If something sounds too good to be true, it likely is, and these "free nitro" offers are designed to take over your account.

While we do have mechanisms in place to deal with raids, the size of this one got the bot rate limited, so our response time was a bit slower than usual. We'll make some changes to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk to us and report the issue. While we do detect raids, a lot of these scammers are individuals, and in those cases, your reports are the only way for us to know that something is off. wumpheart Stay safe! 🚓

Happy New Year, everyone! Frohes neues Jahr! <@&749710876172484629>

Thank you so much for sharing another year with us. We’ve celebrated so many great things together this year, both in our personal achievements and server events. Here are some of the highlights of 2021:
🔹 We gained a ton of new members, and we’re almost at 60k.
🔹 We had some fun events including a big mid-year lesson marathon, and the recent Halloween and Christmas games.
🔹 @leaden coral also got some love and new features in 2021, including: the >purpose command, #ouija and #tea-word-game games for the community, improved session management, the ticket system (#report-issue), reaction roles, dynamic voice channel creation, automatic Google doc creation for #writing, and various improvements to help combat spam and raids. We plan to add many more cool features in 2022!

As for the Christmas events, here are the winners for our raffle and our Christmas art competition:
🔹 Raffle winners: @quartz flare, @craggy marsh, and @misty void (Prize: 1 month nitro)
🔹 Art competition winner: @heady frigate (Prize: Custom role for 1 month)
Check out their entry below this post.
🔹 Overall, 363 users competed in the two Christmas teams and gathered points through mining, submitting artwork, sending out secret Santa notes, and saying various holiday-related phrases. The Sassy Santas managed to gather 6803 points. The Gangster Wrappers got 7030 points and won the event! They get to keep their role for a week! 🎉

Our thanks go to @patent lava and @lyric zealot for generously providing the Nitro gifts, and to everyone who participated in the events. We received some wonderful submissions in the art competition, and we're proud of the community's talents. 💝

During the year, we had a big increase in the number of lessons held, amounting to almost 100. A special thanks to the following people who all held lessons during the year:
@oak flare, @hushed kite, @hard swift, @warped ingot, @rain knoll, @tacit sleet, @stable mason, @umbral flint, @graceful kernel, @livid jasper, and @dreamy palm

Last but certainly not least, we have one final holiday gift for everyone as we go into 2022! We’ve refurbished our old #info channel and added 3 new channels to make the information a lot easier to navigate, so please feel free to check them out:
🔹 #info
🔹 #channel-directory
🔹 #role-directory
🔹 #writing-info

As always, feel free to give us any feedback in #community-discussion and we look forward to enjoying another great year with you all throughout 2022!

Happy New Year and much love to you all from the whole mod team: @boreal wedge, @hushed kite, @languid cobalt, @lyric zealot, @carmine birch, and our two new mods, who just joined us in August, @fast oyster and @sacred grotto.

Hello beautiful people, we wanted to briefly share some <@&749710876172484629> with you. peepyLove

As you may know, we've recently rewritten our old #info channel and split it up into #info, #channel-directory, #role-directory and #writing-info. This led to the Server category becoming overly cluttered and hard to navigate, so based on your feedback we've reorganized things slightly and moved some channels around.

The Server category now looks much cleander, and there's a Channels and Roles category, for the extra info and the #850404908946423828 channel.

Let us know in #community-discussion if you have any thoughts. Bik lieb. peepoHappy2

Hello cute <@&749710876172484629> subscribers, <@&942744059171180555>s and resident questions-dwellers! peepohappy

A week ago we started testing out a new format for the questions channels that we might switch to in the future. After getting some experience with it, we've decided to take it a step further and make our new #942470380692590632 channel visible to everyone.

Since it's still in testing, you'll need to read through some information in #942470642865954916 before you can create new posts in the forums (unless you are already a <@&942744059171180555>), but you can already interact with any existing posts. If you're interested in testing with us, read through the first message of the aforementioned post and get yourself the required permissions.
We'd really love to have some of you try the system out in place of the existing channels, and we appreciate any feedback you may have about it. 💖

Note that the forums feature is still very new and you might not have the best experience on the mobile clients. We'll still keep the old #questions and #questions-2 channel for the foreseeable future, and you can always use those instead of the forum if you can't use it or don't like using it.

<@&749710876172484629> Hi everyone. You have all most likely heard about the events in Europe right now, and we want to extend our sympathies to all people impacted by these events.

Our goal with this server is to maintain a safe, friendly, and peaceful community where people can come to learn German without being too bothered by the stresses of the world around us. As such, we ask you to kindly avoid mentioning the Ukraine-Russia conflict anywhere outside of #archived-sensitive-topics and to be understanding and considerate to everyone you talk to. If you see anything you find problematic or concerning, please contact us immediately and do not start a confrontation.

As a consequence of this recent issue, we've reconsidered the way that politics is discussed throughout the server. We feel that it's difficult for people to understand the distinction between #archived-sensitive-topics and #german-only as far as what topics are allowed in each. For example, we allow the Ukraine-Russia topic in #archived-sensitive-topics but not in #german-only , and this line can be hard to define. As a result, we've decided to forbid political discussions in #german-only completely and ask that you use only #archived-sensitive-topics for the foreseeable future. We will revisit this in future once current events have calmed down.

Thank you everyone for your continued support and the charity you show to the people around you. If you have any questions or concerns about this announcement, feel free to contact us using #report-issue or express your feedback in #community-discussion .

The April Fools event is now over, danke to everyone who participated! blobheart
Overall, there have been 420 role changes, and 210 button presses. 82 clowns pressed the button at least once, but @stable mason pressed the button 19 times and made it to the final clown channel, thereby winning the elusive <@&959021595991625739> 👑 role. The spirit of his clown subjects will live within him for another week.
We hope you had fun, and wish you success in your learning journey. peepohappy2

Heyo lovely <@&749710876172484629> memes

@leaden coral now features a new game called Wörtle. You might already be familiar with the game called Wordle (https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html), which served as a template for Wörtle. The twist, however, is that Wörtle tests your German vocabulary instead of using English words FeelsFIngerGunsMan

As a consequence of adding yet another bot-based game, we have decided to introduce #botgames, which will host all of our games in form of threads from now on. If you're not familiar with threads, you can find more info here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403205878423-Threads-FAQ
We have also created an Archive section, which is home to the now retired #ouija and #tea-word-game channels.

You can try the new game by giving yourself the BotGames role in #850404908946423828.
If you've had the old Ouija or TeaWordGame roles, you now have the new BotGames role. The old roles have been removed.

As always, if you have questions or feedback, we encourage you to use #community-discussion to let us know peepolove

Hello, GLaDsome creatures of which some subscribed to <@&749710876172484629>~
Hopefully it won't take you as long to look that word up as it took us to get as big as we are now (5 years, 8 months and 1 week to be exact), though we must admit, that every single minute of this was quite awesome and so we thank you all for every minute that you spent with us as well as for being great and helpful or possibly just reading, which is totally fine and earns our deepest respect as well blobblush

We just hit a count of 75000 Members! Thank you so much!!

There are also a few other things that we want to tell you about!

Suggestions:
You might have noticed that the #suggestions channel works a bit differently now. In an effort to improve the quality of suggestions, we made a change to how suggestions are submitted, and are testing out Discord's new modal feature. Exciting. happy
When you're making a suggestion, the bot will ask you to provide a detailed description, and list some pros and cons of your suggestion. This will help us better understand your ideas and bring you the features and improvements that you want to see.

Reports:
We want to remind you that it's very difficult for us to moderate a situation if we don't know anything about the situation. We rely on reports to effectively moderate the server, especially in voice channels. If you see any issues in the server, please make sure to use #report-issue to let us know, with as much detail as possible. Even if you're unsure if a rule is being broken, please feel free to contact us anyway. We want to keep the server free of trolls or drama, and we need your help to make that happen.

Sessions:
We're always looking for new session holders to host lessons for the community. If you're interested in trying your hand at running a lesson, let us know by using #report-issue to contact us! You don't need any previous experience or specific German knowledge, so don't hesitate to talk to us. Today we want to highlight a specific type of lesson our server currently lacks: Pronunciation lessons! This type of lesson most likely requires a Native Speaker to run it, so if you're a Native Speaker (or have native-level pronunciation) and want to host a lesson like this, please contact us!

Hello lovely people, we have some <@&749710876172484629> that we'd like to share.

🧑‍🏫 Lesson channel reorganization
Based on feedback that we've received from Session Holders and participants, we decided to slightly reorganize the lessons channels. A new Lessons category was created that now houses the already-existing #lessons and #860635948303777812 VC channels, as well as some new ones. All the channels and their purposes are described in #lesson-info, which you can check out if you'd like to know more. peepylove

Recently, a lot of people have been reaching out to us to express interest in hosting lessons, so #lesson-info also contains information on becoming a Session Holder. Check it out if it seems like something you'd like to do. peepoHappy2

🎮 Semantle
We've added a new bot-based game, #985529416413229066, based on https://semantle.novalis.org/. It's a cooperative game where players try to guess a word based on how close the bot thinks they are to the target word. You can access the thread from #botgames provided that you have the BotGames role which you can get from #850404908946423828. The pinned message in the thread contains a longer explanation of how to play.

Thank you for your continued support, suggestions and feedback, and have fun! peepoCheers As always, if you'd like to share thoughts or feedback, let us know in #community-discussion.

Hello, dear <@&749710876172484629> people!~

Scam awareness reminder
There is a very concerning scam that has become popular on Discord recently and we want to make sure everyone is aware of it. Some servers ask you to "verify" by scanning a QR code. However, scanning QR codes can easily be used to steal your account. Please do not scan any QR code from any Discord server. No legitimate server will ever ask you to verify your account with a QR code or external website. A common trick used for this scam is to send you a DM saying something similar to "Someone posted something embarrassing about you on another server. You have to join to see what they wrote." with a server invite. If you get a message like this, use #report-issue to let us know about the incident and then report the message to Discord.

If you ever fall for a scam like this, immediately change your password, as that will log you out from discord everywhere and the scammer will no longer be able to log in to your account. Additionally consider activating 2FA, which is described here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/219576828-Setting-up-Two-Factor-Authentication

Awareness for the most common scams may help as well, also read about these here:
https://discord.com/blog/common-scams-what-to-look-out-for

Suspicious things can even come from friends if they get hacked themselves, so stay cautious~

Use #beginner-german for beginner level German
We also want to give a reminder to everyone who uses #beginner-german that the channel is not meant to be used for off-topic conversations in English. The purpose of the channel is to speak German at a beginner level while receiving corrections and asking questions. You may use English to correct someone, ask about a correction, discuss grammar related to a correction, explain what you meant if your German sentence was not understood, or explain to someone how to use the server. Basically, use common sense and try to stick to the purpose of the channel.

Unfortunately, we have seen a significant problem recently with people ignoring the purpose of the channel and simply using #beginner-german as if it's another #general . This is a problem because it essentially makes the channel useless and obsolete. In response to this issue, we will begin to moderate the channel more strictly and we may even choose to block someone from the channel if they continuously misuse it. If you're just looking for a quiet channel to chat in English, please simply use #general-2~
