Do items have to be in the game prior to proper activation, or are they just early prototypes and ideas that slip in some builds?

depends on the nature and scope of the project, and how far along in the development pipeline.

art and audio is usually the last pass for anything, so most content is filled placeholders and ugly blockouts to make sure the stuff under the hood works correctly, once things are in a more stable state, placeholders are removed and finalized assets are added.

It isn't as if a 4Gb model phone compared to a 6Gb model phone with the same SoC would be any different on a HAL level to matter much to care about that. What would really matter is OEM Firmware might be a bit different. That's why Dev stats would be key to know out of all the Snapdragon 670s out there, which phones with the SD670 are most used for their game. That would be the one they would choose over the others.

I wasn't in beta long enough to know when they came, but I think you should be able to find the answer in #beta-announcements (or #beta-screenshots-videos to see when they appear first). However, keep in mind that the amount of time some object was in beta has no influence on when it will come to live.

I agree with you in that beta is no substitute for live and people playing there should realize what beta is for. There is nothing wrong, though, with preferring the testing environment. I myself find the testing to be far more interesting. I love discovering bugs and dealing with the extra challenges they can be when I play. There is never a dull moment in beta 🥳

But it would be much harder to beta-test bugs in, say, Orbit or Storm if we had to constantly filter any spoilers on Eden in order to discuss what's happening, so it makes things much more efficient.

(...Y'know, that actually raises a question that I don't know the answer to, so while everyone's waiting for the servers to come back, I'd be interested if any of y'all know the answer: say I were to encounter a glitch in Eye of Eden in Live, how would I spoiler it in a bug report? I mean obviously one would go play live without being told the obvious. The point of this thread is to discuss issues that come up in beta if and when they do.
The sentence almost falls into the same vein as being told to put something into feedback, which weirdly has some of the following connotations:

1. When someone is clearly stating a controversial opinion and people no longer want to aggravate a conversation further, the person is told to “put it into feedback”
2. When someone genuinely considers an idea to be “good” and tells the person “make sure to put it into feeedback!”

@split mirage replying here this time. Due to server problems, you greeted the spirit but your quests didn’t get activated. You can see that the quests are still “locked” even though you greeted. Usually they should get unlocked and it shows something like “(0/1)” in the end. But server probably delayed it so you still haven’t got them activated fully

As a random question... Is there a standard on what glitches are or aren't worth reporting? Because a lot of what I like doing is going around and trying to find things like "huh if I wear chibi mask and walk over here so that my skykid's head is inside this rock, my skykid's legs will start flip around and start flailing wildly inside their torso" or "huh, if I try and jump in this random windowsill my head will poke out and the camera will let me see through walls and my skykid will start vibrating" or "huh if I fly up onto the citadel's entrance to the races and walk around to the back of the roof ornaments I can walk around inside the roof because the terrain model isn't fully closed at the back" like... All of these are pretty random chibi antics that aren't exactly gamebreaking and mostly just occur when I go around hopping into random objects and look for blips in the collision, but should I report things like "I can get my skykid stuck inside this rock" or "my skykid starts vibrating violently if I do emotes while standing inside a lantern"? Cause I mean, those technically are bugs, but do the devs care about random minor glitches like that, or should I only bother my time with obvious glitches?

I don’t think you need to report these minor glitches since those have been in the game for so long anyways and it doesn’t really affect your gameplay experience in a bad way. That’s my personal take tho.

You can run live sky on an M1 MacBook Pro. It runs very nice on my M1, though because of lack of touch screen, you need a controller. It’s not yet possible to do beta on an M1 because TestFlight isn’t available. Apple did announce at the WWDC conference in June of this year that MacOS 12 (Monterey) will have TestFlight for M1. Major OS upgrades like that typically come out in the October/November time frame, so it’s just a couple of months away.

We never got it in beta because it was related to the days of healing flower, which we never tested. We did however, test the emergency patch they released an hour after that update released in live.

But that was from a small patch. I have no idea how it would work with a more major update. All we can do is wait

My Poco M3 device didn't get affected at all

Being someone outside looking in with limited knowledge of their code, but knowledge on device drivers, I would assume they're using a standard Vulkan API call that some manufacturers implemented poorly to their OS compared to what is given in AOSP. That's the sad nature of an Open Source platform. The Manufacturer can build it how they want since they have access to the source code. A good example of this is how vastly different Samsung's One UI is compared to AOSP (default Android experience).

People have been reporting it on beta for a good while, and while it is really sad that it did make it to live, it's probably more complex of a bug and tgc had different issues/deadlines to resolve. We can't know for sure and can only keep reporting it

okay so guys, if someone like me has the crashing bug as soon as you enter vault, and you want to reach the starlight desert: you can teleport to a friend there and it won't crash.
i noticed that the crashing only happens when you first enter vault from the gate.
I did not try if you can teleport to a friend who's in the first floor and whether if it crashes or not though
like, is it a crash that has to do with all of vault or just the first level?

Vault is a GPU demanding area because as you enter it loads all first 3 levels at once.

Just not as much and as severely as older devices

I suggest every android user to play with the lowest graphics settings to experience less problems

Sorry but this is a very narrow aspect of view. Events are not bound to ui or graphics engine update. In TGC's Chinese letter to users (pasted in this channel yesterday) they stated UI and graphics were very outdated from development side and this is why its update was necessary.
Whether it's the same time as days of summer event update is only because Nintendo allows longer update cycles.
And there could be even more factors to consider we are not aware of. Maybe I'm optimistic maybe we never know the full truth but it feels better to think about devs this way for a game we play every day with.

You can revert on testflight but it will only show you the 'new update is available' screen. You cant really play on those builds. I don't think you can do that with the live version and they force update after a few days anyways

Second, Android players never get removed for inactivity since it’s not as strict as Testflight with slots, but there’s a few who might leave manually opening up a slot for someone else to join. That doesn’t apply for Testflight

Beta is for testing which can lead for fixing bugs but beta never meant to make a game bugproof. It's clear for a long time that the devs workflow for this game is different than many would imagine.

Ktjn's pinned message in #general-sky-discussion tells that crash/black issues are still below the treshold of not releasing this, therefore sticking with the current graphics.

We don't know if the more recent live build had already some potential fixes for the affected devices and already a little less are affected.

this update is android only. if sky beta is still in your testflight app and just doesn't have an update then you aren't removed from beta

Wish we could say, all phones are built different, some with new some with old GPU malware, unlike ios most of your devices are built the same so it's earlier to target and fix things

Android is open source OS , that's what makes it hard to keep consistent because every company customizes android in their own way. What this means is even you can download android OS for free and make a device from scratch, if you have the resources

It unfortunately doesn't work like that. Android itself is just the operating system. But since it's more open sourced than ios is (ios isn't open source at all so...) multiple companies can use Android in their devices. But each device also has different hardware, which is why they're all different

The funny thing is even between same hardware from different manufacturers can vary differently. For example, the Moto Z2 Force is very similar on a hardware level as the Pixel 2 XL (tamien) even down to the same vibration motors, screen, motherboard and emmc. They are vastly different under the hood software and firmware wise to act completely different with games like Sky.
