If the game was working fine before you updated the game this is most likely a bug, try reporting it on #report-a-live-bug or #bug-reports-pc if you're on PC, you can also try this: Switching your WiFi/Cellular connection, restarting both the game and your device, making sure you don't have any third party app that could interfere with your device/connection, as an last thing you can try updating your game/device OS in the settings app in any device

I found before loading your character to switch out of fullscreen to windowed prevents it from pausing when looking at another window. Which avoids the connectivity problems.
Just dont switch to another fullscreen app, but maximized windowed apps are fine.

Ya on mac if you have sky fullscreened and you glance at another app it pauses the game which breaks connectivity till you restart.
Switching to windowed before glancing at any other windowed app prevents it from pausing and thus avoids that connectivity issue.

The ult items are just the items at the bottom of the guides tree (pants, hair, and a cape). To get those you need to complete all seasonal spirits and get the seasonal hearts

Ultimate gifts are bought trough the Seasonal guide with and only if you have an Seasonal pass , the constellation "completion" % is just an leftover from past seasons, and does not give an ultimate gift

For earth and water I don’t remember honestly, I haven’t tried those in a long time but I would imagine the same thing happens: after lighting the final shrine you should respawn there after restart

• Getting all the Children of Light aka Winged Light (for wing level and, ultimately, Eden)
• Introduction to Shard Events could be good, so they get ascended candles to buy aforementioned wing buffs ↑
• Maybe also an introduction to Candle Running, and/or social events like grandma and geyser
• What some new players may need is an encouragement to go to Eye of Eden (when they feel ready), because they might falsely assume it's the end of the game
• And lastly, doing Seasonal Quests. Especially Revival/The Little Prince would be good, as both have quests that need you to go to Eden
