most of it is an open area. And south plains (savannah now) is still largely open but with plenty of visual cover that helps guess who: carnos, omnis, ceras, troodons, dilos, rexes
and every carnivore to come save for spino, deino and sucho
we also got west rail and north plains as well plains
Not like those dinos were struggling
because now you cannot be spotted from a mile away. Now people have to use their eyes and awareness
But more ponds not connected to rivers means deino is dead
making the map too flat is actually a bad idea, it’s what people use for endless deathmatch
deino has always been in its death throes. Regardless it has a planned rework and mechanics to make it not abysmal
good, they should stay in the rivers where they belong and can actually travel and sustain themselves
its also (most of the time) visually boring in my opinion
pond deino is more of a gamble and risky move
Jungle is even more boring and hits on performance
yeah i agree, that’s why adding rocks and at least somewhat uneven terrain is good imo
don’t go there
?
good thing they added patrol zones, you don’t have to go to places you don’t want to go
stay at the plains if you like plains
it’s quite obvious to erm.. rest of the community
it’s not a bad map design tho lol
"bad map design" and its literally just them moving around where the plains are lol
🤓
so the good map design should be just plains?
yep
👹
Good map design should be everything
what?
that totally makes sense xd
look, this is the open area of south plains now. Does it look like a swamp or jungle or anything that wouldn't benefit carnivores and enrich gameplay?
Im genuinely confused how ppl are disagreeijf with me. Do you guys just hate variety? I just dont get it. If the devs added a new plains biome yall would be hating on anyone who said it wasnt good either. Bizarre
new biome is really good, i’d also like some rocks and little bit less bushes around
they just added a new plains biome and we're saying its good....
im so confused lol
okay, argue with non fallacious arguments why variety for the sake of variety is good
Its not worth it tbh
variety in a map isn't always important. it can be part of what can make a good map but it doesn't determine how good it is
no one hates you, well not me.
we got south plains, new savannah plains, north plains, highlands are mostly flat, west rail, there’s so many plains on the map
theres more to it then that when it comes to map design
then no one can agree with you, if you won't care to explain why is it an inherent positive to have visibly and completely different biomes when a) the new biome objectively makes gameplay more engaging and b) it literally is a biome we have never seen before over the grasslands we have seen since Isla Spiro
same ahaha
When u showed me the picture i literally couldnt tell it was new thats how samey it looks but whatever
🫥
i love variety. they literally added more variety in this update. there's so much varying biomes and places. the new south savannah type area is insanely unique
what's samey about it? the palette?
structure wise we haven't had a map like that since some section of early legacy lol
"we want a flat field"
you got a flat field. the new south is literally flat, bushy savannah area, and we decided we hated it
i genuinely can’t tell if he’s just trolling or actually thinks the map is just jungle
Its the exact same bushes, shrubs and trees that are everywhere else. There's literally no difference to it. Just a slightly altered placement of those shrubs then usual
this is how i know you havent actually visited that area of the map because there is infact unique and new foliage in that biome
it's been a hot minute since we ever got a savannah and now this time there's cover that:
from the prey's perspective, forces you to remain aware and not just turn off your brain in the open
from the predators's perspective, makes plains no longer a fully safe haven for large herbivores AND your very cover is also an obstacle that works against you.
Well yeah cuz I havent lol
Show me new assets pls
brother hasnt even been there and hes trying to say its bad 😭
LMAOOO
this is just "magy bad animal" but map edition
well if you payed more attention you’d know that trees you see at the highlands don’t look like trees you find at the swamps, it’s just one example but most biomes got their own set of trees/bushes you can’t really find anywhere else on the map
yes, i spent some time looking at the different trees, i actually did it
Literally the only example of variety
what else do you want?
IT IS A GREAT CONCEPT
And neat to accomodate not only rex, but also benefits allo, carno, cera, giga, acro, bary, rugops, mono, dilo, omni, troodon and maybe sucho
How is that bad? It has forward compatibility unlike spiro with its infinite revamps and actual two biomes
That area was mostly jungles btw. South plains is largely the same lol
the palette looks different depending on the biome too
Is there actually something new in the "new biome" or are yall just saying just to say things
well you should play the game and you’ll know
grab a galli and explore
I am telling you the value it brings
yeah its just a place that can actively add to the game its nice
I never said spiro was good lol
the devs mentioned in the patch notes what exactly they changed so you don’t even have to guess, run around the map and explore
you will be surprised but it’s not just jungles or swamps
Literally in all the screenshots i see of the new biome its the same assets so idk what to tell you
facts this was the new area
never said you did, but I was implying there has been improvement and the direction they have been taking is good
is verity of biomes
they’re not
^^ they just made that area playable lol
people were asking for water source for so long, i’m glad they finally added one
and it’s safe as well, you don’t have to fear deinos
They turned a jungle into a Savannah pretty much. How is there any complaints?
looks like a good spot for the potential communal nesting zones
South plains is also the exact same look
yeah, they removed one of the hills, but that’s it
I’m happy with the area
I never had any need to go there before
the water is so dirty tho😭😭😭
where else can you get this
not only this isn't really true but you are also judging something simply based on the tiny individual pieces- no, not even that, but instead the cover of those pieces
It's like saying a building isn't special or unique when it could be completely different and innovating compared to another, and all because they have the same color and material.
Your observation feels overly superficial, and overlooking the major implications and value to gameplay that has to create a biome where your very camouflage is your obstacle and fundamentally alters how predator stalks and prey is aware of threats. It has brought a change in something we have been doing for almost a decade
"same assets" but utilised in a brand new way that we've not seen before
so it's not the same
or this
and without trying to downplay Kyrill's arguments, all I am hearing is that the colors and maybe the appearance of some plants is similar
its a biome done RIGHT
despite completely changing how you interact with it
has anybody else noticed the night vision improvements
yes
yes
and sun doesn’t blind, that’s so good
i was shocked when it was a nighttime and i could see things as galli
trike still got terrible one, but i mean.. that makes sense at least, it’s not pitch black and i’m happy
Idk what to tell you bro its the exact same ctr c ctr v assets. There is so many new assets on unreal marketplace idk why they just dont use them. For some reason, despite the glowing reviews by isle discord, I just cannot get myself to care about another marshland / swamp. If it replaced the thick jungle that was there than thats good I guess? But its such a low standard to be impressed by. I cant really convince u guys anything and yall cant convince me so no point in really talking about it, its just some people are happier with different things I guess
why are you so fixated on calling it a swamp
Because it is. As someone who lived in florida I know what a swamp looks like lol
and I am telling that if you could explain what gameplay value does it bring to do as you say, then maybe I could agree
but so far I am the only one giving reasons as for why it is a positive
No gameplay value, I just want asethetic value. Graphics and visuals are also important
I have more evidence to see this as a positive. Also, does that imply the new biomes are ugly? why?
it isnt even a swamp. you haven't seen the biome yet so i guess you wouldn't know tho lmao
They arent ugly on their own, but im just disappointed to hear that they added a new "biome" without anything new in it, so visually it looks very similar to everything else. Consideirng how huge gateway is it would be nice to have a break from the same coler pallete (highlands is good but its not enough)
I think there's no better and more clear way to put it than ticking boxes
i think thats the beach that changes your skin
hm.. what biome would you want to see in the game?
Desert would be epic
it is. it has water clearly swamp
im hopping on just to check out that section of the map some more
Completely new type of biome despite usage of similar plant assets to craft a landscape that we haven't seen since 2016 and even then it was vague back then ✅
Innovating side mechanic to make ambushes more strategic in a way never seen before in these games ✅
Preys can no longer rely on grasslands for the most part as safe havens where you see a predator coming from 400m away ✅
Accomodates future playables and doesn't make their existence countered entirely by open areas ✅
So...I have my reasons to believe this change benefits the game and is the right direction to go
how do you even shoehorn that into a map with jungles?
spinosaurus in the savannah is going to be such a vibe
Map can easily fit multiple climates
delta & coast**
...
I mean i dont disagree I just wanted more I guess
unless you make it the size of a country, not at all
Oh we care about realism now lol
i think it would just look out of place
How come rdr2 has vastly different climates in a short area and NO ONE COMPLAINED
we already have enough issues finding each other without hotspots, expanding the island to accomodate that would be a terrible idea, and forcing a biome shift like that would turn gateway into a fortnite map without expanding the island
Yall are making up problems just for fun
rdr2 has a massive map the size of an entire state?
I am all for prioritizing gameplay over realism. But that's just like putting a polar bear in arizona. Those two (jungle and desert) in an island so small are completely incompatible unless you made some truly bizarre geography of the map, and all for what? to have a third of the map unavailable and unusable for a large chunk of the roster?
Its about the same as gateway
Horses are just slow in rdr2 so it makes map feel bigger
rdr2 doesn't have a desert and an Amazon jungle in the same 15x15km map
also has issues with players meeting organically, rdr2 doesnt have an ecosystem in place where players require other player deaths to survive
incomparable
or maybe we are providing reasons as for why an idea is not very sensible or feasible
Rdr2 has : Snow biome, east lush swamp biome, northern boreal forest biome, desert biome, savannah biome, plains biome, temperate forest biome and prolly more are missed. There is no good reason as to why gateway cant have these too
lmao thats rich as hell coming from a dude who's arguing the map changes are bad despite not playing them
in fact tell me. Tell me who would get value out of a desert in the roster. Deinos? Spinos? Austros? Rexes? Camas?
just tell me, don't back down
you want a desert. Let's imagine you are Don's nephew and you get it
It’s a discussion bro chill
POT is the same way, the biome shift isnt smooth and their gondwa map is too big for players to organically meet to survive in the ecosystem. a part of why i think they dont have diet requirements and much more ai
Many fast animals like galli
Pot map is insanely good sorry
now what, who can use the desert now?
AND NO CHILL BIRD
/lh
So much more interesting
far from it
good, galli. 1/60
Who else?
well that’s a good point i guess, they’re working on redwoods and we will surely get more biomes in the future, doubt we will get some crazy stuff like snowy biome but nothing stops them from creating a new map in the future
who else can use that desert?
Put all herbivore diets in there so it will be a good spot for herbis, but also dangerous cuz open area. Would make it fun
why would all herbi diets be in a desert???
i’d like desert one too, if they make it hope it’s not going to be too flat, i want some ravine
That would be really good too
maybe if they made a second island with more highlands style biomes where a desert could be feasible and you could just pick that server but thats still asking them to take the time (a lot of time) to make that and create the assets for it
i think that’s a bad idea
Isle devs dont create assets as far as I know they are from marketlace (nothing bad about that btw)
Atleast the vegetation
i can see them adding small oasis areas with diets, but i’d expect to see some plants like cacti all around the desert
why would you put papayas, brazilnuts, agaves, banana plants, fireweed, radish roots and pumpkins in a desert...?
Also open areas are not dangerous unless you are slow and/or outnumbered. It would be the most free place ever for hadrosaurs, galli, dryo and all of those lol
i thought they were moving away from that and doing it all in-house?
So...what about a deino? What is it supposed to do in the desert?
Well currently all vegetation on map is marketplace so
I dont like your arguments bro. Just because a biome isnt advantageous to half the roster does not mean it shouldnt exist
????
well.. nile river.
Your literally saying that if certain dinos arent going to thrive in a desert so desert shouldnt be added
They create their own assets
gateway doesnt have room for a desert and expanding the island is a bad idea
Source?
what’s your source tho..
The developers, old #phase-two-archive posts showing off custom assets, devblogs
this is so wrong
Please, consider the implications of that. You would be creating a section of the map (probably large so it doesn't look awful) that part of the roster cannot access or they get absolutely nothing out of it. That means that you are creating safe zones for many creatures to artificially avoid bad matchups or main predators.
It absolutely shouldn't be added if you are just going to create a glorified sanctuary but for adults and elders lmao
Yeah and it’s been shown in devblogs
Not everything is custom, like the ai, but those may be replaced with bespoke models
like bruv 😭 how can you say that
Are you talking about buldingd and structures? I specifically was talking about foliage. You are being disingenuous and dishonest for no reason so im not gonna bother
it's like if they turned a quarter of the map into a sanctuary and most have it inaccessible. Why adding it?
I am talking about foliage
Link me the post in phase 2 where they show custom foliage
It might've been in a devblog, but the swamp trees and a variety of the diet plants we currently have were showcased
Diet plants are one thing im talking about the shrubs, trees, grass texture, misc foliage etc. im not sure about swamp trees tho tbh
Parasaurolophus casually going into the desert magically inside a tropical island, where it can find all of its diet, water without deinos or spinos, and since it is a desert it cannot get ambushed by apexes
Amazing game design.
That dino does not exist
not currently but it is planned and not too far off. So...would your plan be to remove the desert then when para comes to prevent that from happening?
Ok then I admit not all foliage is marketplace but still 90% is (which is perfectly fine, I just wished they used MORE marketplace assets for more variety)
that was just an example and actually a good point..
but hey
Savannah bringing in new mechanics is bad
maybe not 100% desert, but desert-ish area could work on gateway, but only if they make the map bigger ig

Even if we are talking about a dino that doesnt exist yet, its ok to have some biomes be good for some dinos
because i honestly don’t see the part of the map that can become desert, we need a new island for that or just bigger gateway
Literally half the map can be nuked and I wouldnt care at all
i would..😔
Theres only south plains and highlands as far as im concerned
there’s only few tiny places that can be changed, because the rest already looking good and unique
In fact id actually be happy if they did that because smaller map means more player interaction
this is just trolling, okay
good is one thing. But a proper desert done in a way that doesn't look like God just poured some sand over a corner of the island would be flat out UNUSABLE for many playables in the roster. Apex carnivores would be doomed, especially deino and spino, and then also animals like pterosaurs who rely heavily on big elevations within the same area
Also I'm guessing hypsis, herras, anky, minmi, and cheirus
swamp is more advantageous for certain playables
at first i actually thought you were serious
but it doesn't make 20 playables useless
I dont see any players in the swamp like ever. Its not advantageous for anyone if nobody even stays there
that’s a wrong way of thinking.. don’t make the map smaller to force players to interact more often, make the map even bigger and increase the player count significantly to get an amazing ecosystem
let’s be real when game gets its full roster no way there’s gonna be 100 player slots servers around
Sure but the devs refuse to add more player slots
They have been asked and said straight up no
they don’t, they experimented on HT and some servers have 160 players
not to mention community servers with 300+..
which is a lot even for gateway imo
I remember kissen saying that they have "no plans" for more server slots
So if u take that as a yes then go for it lol
Im not holding my breath
well apparently they do plan
which is good
Hopefully but its not what she said
doesn’t matter, that’s what they do
we already got 110 on officials when it used to be just 100
the servers they use cant up it without lag I think (from a felipe stream with poutine)
at some point it will be 200.. and more and more
Then get better servers
If petit pieds can do it so can the company
unrelated reasons
Swamp is not used frequently for other than smart herbis because it didn't have the luck of becoming a popular iconic place, and its layout takes more learning than that of north lake, highlands or south plains, but it is not something inherently about the swamp. People just feel deterred from sticking for too long because it is a giant labyrinth.
If I were a rex at the swamp, I could still take advantage of the many shallow areas and also dry land to move around and even use the copious amounts of cover to hunt effectively. On the other hand, a rex in a desert can only hope to scavenge because it will be seen coming from far away and hadrosaurs will just start getting away well before you can get in killing range with your ambush
a swamp doesn't make a creature inherently useless or impossible to keep alive like a spino in a desert
petits is a EU and NA based server TI needs to account for every server
No you wouldnt if you were a rex because there would be nobody in the swamp to hunt except fresh spawns who are desperately trying to leave. A place becoming popular has NOTHING to do with luck, its all about how enjoyable players find hanging around there. Swamp is a death maze that cant be navigated
in every area they have them in
with due respect, the point flew over your head
You know that upgrading servers isnt a hard thing to do right? I run my own server in malaysia lol
there is nothing about the swamp that makes a dinosaur inherently unviable
but a desert? absolutely
the only reason south plains is a hotspot is because majority of dinos spawn there most of the times
No players does that
it’s between sp and west rail
because if there were players (which can perfectly survive btw) in the swamp, then something like rex would survive just fine
You can talk about theory all u want but it doesnt matter cuz players love plains and will always leave other biomes to hang out in plains
they just need to work on spawns and hotspot problem will get fixed very soon
honestly with spawn codes coming in just make it completely random
But there isnt so
but what is a spino supposed to do in a desert whether or not it is populated?
IT DOESNT MATTER. IT IS UNRELATED
or forest animals spawn in forests and plains animals spawn in plains and semi aquatics spawn near water

It is related broski
that would be fair, but i still want herbivores to spawn at least where their migration might spawn, not completely random
and like if it’s something semi-aquatic then it needs to spawn in swampy area or delta or something like that
not in the slighest. Or well, we could use that same logic with the desert. I guess we could imagine that no one would use it, thus every carnivore is inherently bad there becaure there's just fresh spawns willing to leave
honestly, they should delete every biome and add giant redwoods instead, can we all agree👹👹👹👹👹👹
The isle isnt singleplayer
Would be preferable tbh
xddd
instead of talking about the intricacies and properties of different biomes, let's judge them based on player activity. Completely disregarding that a spino in a desert oasis would die whether or not it is populated
I have been enjoying legacy so much lately just because the map is so much better
I mean thenyaw not v3

oh well thenyaw is mostly dense forest
thought you liked map variety
Its not jungle tho atleast
doesn’t even have any open plains really..
well i’d expect you to like v3 more since its more “open”
I like thenyaw because its small, looks nice asthetically, (much nicer than evrima jungle) and has 1 good lake and hotspot with a plains around it
I love how V3 is just shattered into shards by that massive swamp/jungle/river that conditions all of your traveling

So like gateway
no…
Even ptera gets blocked in gateway thats how blocky it is
i’d agree with you if we would talk about old gateway, but new one doesn’t really have any mountains blocking you
V3 has that. Gateway isn't nearly that bad
only roadblock ptera has is the highlands period.
everything can run almost in a straight line
and tbh my only issue always were the domes that were useless and i was forced to go around them, but most of them thankfully got removed and now it’s not a problem anymore
I heavily disagree I cant play gateway without a third party map or I just end up taking horribly inefficient routes
i don’t see any “mountains” blocking.. if you disagree then show it on the map at least
learn locations
because highlands can be accessed from ANY major location except swamp and you can go anywhere through there. Heading from north lake to south plains is almost a straight line in gateway. Meanwhile going from hidden lake down to twin lakes in v3 required you get around the awful canyon with jungle and river around and then part of the swamp until you finally had to run through the forest for a while until you got there
I dont even use a map anymore its just a skill issue
i hate that canyon, it’s so bad
Highland mountains to the south of it, the area below south plains, the entirety of swamp and the area between south plains and highlands
there's a clear, quick path from sp to highlands with a bridge included...
i’ll be honest i never really had any issues with that.. but if you do just use the map once and then you’ll remember route
it’s not bad, i don’t think so
two bridges and only two river crosses needed at best if you have any knowledge about the layout
the swamps are confusing, but that’s the point of swamps
Two bridges that herreras camp
mfw I look up or dodge pounces
Thats what a real swamp looks like yes
just look up if you expect to find them there and try to bait or run left and right like crazy so they can’t predict your next move
clearly a swamp
In real life swamps look like that
fr
Tall grass and shrubs with bodies of shallow water everwhere
there arent bodies of water everywhere
Its a very accurate swamp
theres a few watering holes sprinkled around
uh.......................
(wetlands and savannah respectively)
mhmm swamp
i see what he means though
https://floridahikes.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Kissimmee-River-floodplain-1-1600x900.jpg
yeah but the new biome looks nothing like this
I literally lived in florida yes thats what I meant
I see so many puddles in your vid
if there WAS shallow water everywhere though that would be fine
there’s only one water source and like a little puddle
there isn't enough water
yeah cos i highlight specifically those ponds as a way to show where the game trails lead
So its settled its a florida swamp
dude literally just follow the path
i have the worst sense of direction in the world and i dont need a map for gateway
Maybe ur a god pro gamer then idk 🤷♂️
im not
maybe he cared to get gud
I always run into annoying cliffs
instead of MAKING UP EXCUSES
i’d be terrified, we all know florida yoink man
Orrrr instead of learning gateway i can just play thenyaw lol
enjoy it as it lasts
I will 😭
good luck
finally legacy will die soon
i’m happy if that makes you happy
Legacy still unmatched
im looking at swamps around florida rn the new biome doesn't have enough water on the ground but i can see some similarity's yeah
i hope they will delete it to make legacy players mad.. or alternatively not delete and let legacy players keep spending irl money to buy in game dinosaurs
Ok glad u see my point atleast
assriding fan?
Peak
that’s what i call a real combat
face tank and tail ride 💪💪💪
Legacy has rex tho so its an automatic win for legacy
Once evrima has rex then we will talk
i once showed legacy player my tenonto gameplay, bro was SHOCKED when he saw teno kicked that carno, spent 5 minutes trying to understand how it died when it was behind me
it’s like when you show a monkey a magic trick
Idk legacy combat is just so simple and nice i like it
its so dull lol
Also immersion in legacy is unmatched
The weather the footsteps the broadcasts
Evrima is technically better in dino design tho ill give it that
Like each dino in evrima is unique
i find evrima far more immersive
to each their own i guess.
Legacy had better ambience and the NV was spookier
the moment i encounter a dinosaur in legacy, all that mmersion gets obliterated
because lol funny crouch battles and tail chasing
evrima is also missing a proper ambush predator on land but soon
dinosaurs did that in the fossil record tho
an edmontosaurus got bitten in the tail by a rex
😱
they were tail riders
yeah, because when someone is running from you the tail is what you tend to be closest too
couldnt vote
u bullying us
must be trolli
#balance-feedback-discussion message oh okay he blocked me after this lol
because I pulled out the funny omni card image
@onyx scaffold so...is it not a good system that encourages stamina management efficiently when it gives you a minor penalty for failing to manage your stamina?
Only thing I can agree with (which isn't mentioned here) is that it is too cryptic like so many things in the game
atleat in my opinion it just feels like a chore of manually checking to make sure you didnt go below 60 percent it would feel more natural and make mroe sense to allow people to go below that threshold but it would just take longer to regain stamina instead of outright none
or if you go marginally below that threshold, you could just slow walk for a moment and then continue trotting once you are at the right place
right now it is a system that actually treats stamina like a resource, which adds a layer of strategic thinking to the game and also a need to know when it is better to keep pushing or to disengage
also gives more commitment to sitting down with the breakpoints
and also if your a diablo for example and you are being hunted and they have drawn out the fight and drained your stamina there is no way of you regaining it until you sit down which you obviously cant do i think in that situation the dibble should still regain some stamina just really really slowly
that has a simple explanation
they outplayed the dibble
I personally quite like how stamina feels like a limited resource now, however i think it could use some tweaks in some areas
like sitting stamina regen feels extremely slow for too long imo, sitting to regen when you're above 60 feels just as slow as trotting which is a bit odd to me
outplayed lol, you mean pushing H
if they get it down to that point then yeah the carnivores should be able to play around while it has no stamina but if they take too long to find openings still and manage to finish the kill i think the diablo should have a chance of being able to slowly build up some stamina which could be used in a pinch to maybe survive
if a predator manages to tire a prey in nature, it totally outplayed it. So why wouldn't that be the same with dinosaurs when we have stamina recoveries so similar to those of wild animals and a needed to preserve stam as a resource?
also just makes no sense you could stand still for the rest of human history and not ever even gain a inch of stamina back
Cus we have a human brain, meaning i can outplay you but i can also be 100% tired. But both will still get energy if you sit or not
if you went below a threshold and were trapped in that situation, it probably was your fault burning more stam than you should or not making the right choices when you were in time
we are humans lol
we cannot be compared to animals when talking about stamina
they are completely different
Thats what we do, your saying that. Why shouldt i get stam but you can ? Even if we both are tired
You still need to get the kill
this is made worse by not being able to see your stamina in a fight to a exact percentage like how the threshold works lets say your running around in a fight and you think your around 20 percent so you can gain some back from being still but you went to 19.9 percent your odds of winning fall down to a minimum
excluding combat as well it just makes travel much longer for no reason
because you are trying to extrapolate the endurance of a human to another animal, ignoring the fact that they actually not only tire much faster, but also regain their stamina much slower. Sure, standing still panting would eventually help, but does it really matter in the game? would it really make the difference?
you can also more or less memorize the marks since the stam bar isnt a flat line to prevent this from happening
and imma be real, I would rather keep stamina as a resource whose management is crucial to survival than to revert it and go back to the times where stamina mattered nothing to everyone except for three or four playables
if Master Oogway played The Isle he would be cracked, because he knew
I know where you going, and i sorta agree. But doing a 2v1 just makes life to easy, run to a bush and push h. While other guy make sure the prey cant sit. Now im not saying that beeing 2v1 shouldt come with advantages. But if you are standing you should still get stam, but slower rate.
but it did matter tho? and even then i want the old system with the thresholds but instead of not being able to gain stamina at different thresholds it just slows down by alot
every death in this game except for cheaters is 100% preventable and there is always something that could have been done right
or you should be punished in an allegedly hardcore game for making a royal fumble in a life or death situation
this is not hardcore game lol, this is one of the easier one. And fumble? If im at zero stam and you are, im not the only guy fumbling
this game's design philosophy is ruthless. It doesn't forgive anything, and I cannot why one of the most important stats in the game only behind speed should be one of the more forgiving ones
yeah both fumbled in that case
and it totally is the aim of the game that has been said multiple times. To be hard
and this couldn't be more clear than with the arrival of apexes so soon with 14 hour growths and assuming that in the live branch you wont have everything served on a silver platter
I just told you, in a 2v1 you neglect that. By zero skill, but the fact you can push h. Again, not saying 2v1 shouldt be with advantages. But i still need to have the skill to kill it.
This is one of the easier one, its about surviving. And its very easy.
and the game isn't finished yet
True, and i hope it will be harder.
it will especially with the proper apexes in the game and elder system
I mean it prob will be, just even with semi aquatic. Im guessing bary will kill alot of growing deinos etc.
The only real issue with the stamina system is that it uses thresholds instead of curves
@thick summit I see what you mean but with that.. people would just likely find the nearest cliff if they were so unfortunate. It wouldn’t add much depth most likely because if you got an inherently “bad” skin color just by random chance, why live, y’know?
People try to find the nearest cliff if they don't spawn close to a hotspot...so dunno
So it's even more a proof that people would 100% suicide if they spawn albino
I mean they spawn albino when taking an egg
Still the cliff
As for the "should I trust that albino" part the answer is "no"
They are too old when they can jump off a cliff
Yeah I know! That's the neat thing
or let themselves starve to deaht by not begging
How is it neat
It's not a question or a strategic choice to trust an albino
The answer is just no
Mathematically
True
I mean.. realism
When meeting an albino, there's a 50% chance that it's actually a cannibal (probably higher normally but let's make it simpler)
Even if they're not a cannibal, there's still a 50% chance that they want to kill me (again, probably higher in actual game)
Even if they don't want to kill me, there's a 50% chance that they will get me killed somehow (because ahhh isle players also they stick out like a sore thumb)
Which leaves a whopping 17.5% chance that trusting them will not lead to my death
What does realism have to do with this ?
could be interesting if albino was a mutation you can spawn with, and you also instantly get cannibalism
you lose a skin, you're obvious as hell, but free mut and interesting playstyle off the bat
Okay that might actually be cool
It's fun
If realism was fun then that game would be realistic
But here we are
I know
I still don't like the idea of having both my skin and my plays session be ruined because of some RNG
To the cliff it is
albinos can't respawn though
Real life =/= videogame
Also yeah I believe albino animals irl must be pretty bummed about being albino
Yea it’s bad
I don’t like getting my whole camouflage and relationships with my own kind sabotaged by gambling
Also guys
Was doing some quick math as I was testing trike
And honestly I really would like to insist later on that they keep these long growth times
Feels like a great way to ensure the better players are the ones hitting adulthood if you combine it with exigent gameplay or diets
I really wish they don’t back down at all and keep that because it’s actually pretty good
I remember in this channel saying it as a joke how rex would take like 10-12 hours
yea is trike like actually 10 hours
But it may as well be an understatement because trike already takes- nope
whats trike?
I did two quick mathematic operations. I am still figuring out the growth curve, but after two checks I can more or less pinpoint its growth at the 12-14 hour mark on a 100% diet
Leaning more towards 13
jesus lol
Potentially more even since I’ve been running on a mega min maxed diet but also with zero predatory pressure
So when Rex is around I’m expecting trikes to take like 15 hours to grow
They have toned down that growth curve (24% 4 tons before vs 3.1 tons now) but it is MUCH, MUCH LONGER
And I think some dev said that rex wouldn’t get less growth time than trike
And that one’s a carnivore
All I’m gonna say is that elder rex will be a true mark of commitment and skill
god that's based ngl
I appreciate that
Because that’s gonna be a huge deterrent
And also it is not necessarily bad if the younger stages remain viable
Such as rex. Who cares if you spend like 15 hours growing a rex if you get to enjoy all life stages for a while
I am 25% on this trike and I’ve been growing easily for like 3 hours on an average diet well over 140-150% lmao
In fact I am a little concerned about apexes despite this feeling like the right way to go
Because after that time and competing for resources, animals like trike better be absolute powerhouses who crush any other creature that grows in like 5 hours or less
That's kinda the reason why I'm not a fan of super long growth times for apexes
I guess you could also compensate with their gameplay quality and not just raw power?
The amount of hours invested into a playable is definitely a factor of strength balance-wise
You can't make ptera 4 hours to grow because flying is so cool and fun
Nor can you reduce deino's growth time to 2 hours because of how boring and unfun it is
i mean they did decent with trike
trike is pretty much unkillable, it just can't pick its fights
(honestly i reckon trike could do with a lil more power but maybe that's just me)
It could, or with alt attacks speed and stuff like that
To be fair, it doesn’t have to be purely a rule of three with balancing, right?
Regardless of whether it is 12 hours or 7, trike can still roll two stegos or two deinos at a time quite easily
And also getting a crazy good diet with trike is very easy due to how slow the food drain is. You just need to be territorial about your patrols and migrations, use gastroliths and before 30% like I am right now, you can keep increasing your diet consistently and sit comfortable at +230%
So maybe if rex and trike (as well as the other truly gigantic apexes for that matter) are more rewarded for keeping a very good diet and can shorten their growth significantly, there shouldn’t be any major problem
Because trike on a constant 200% would be like…8-9 hours? Not that far off, pretty fair in fact
Maybe in practice it will be longer due to competition with other herbis, migrations and being pressured by predators, but seriously, trike is early on with over 200% boost is easy
@dawn hound Even better idea : Make it so players can't be pinned on their tail
yeah
Well, they cant get pinned onto the tail, the omniraptor will only latch onto it with its jaws, and then the omniraptor can get shook off or kicked off.
No
I mean that pouncing on someone's tail just fails
Simpler, less stupid than a herrera stunning omni with a kick, less prone to being buggy or unfair
Pin/pounce and carno's charge just shouldn't work/do damage on tail hits
omni cant even pin carno bru
what are you talking about
I am talking about their abilities
oh mb, misunderstood, yea it shouldnt
^
Why program that whole mechanic when you could simply shrink the pounce hitbox to make it narrower and then prevent tail pins
#general-feedback message a vampire
@wispy abyss do you mean at west access with the new palms? Cus at south plains the deep jungle has been removed
Instead of deleting the whole swamp
Ain’t no way bluda asked to delete the entire swamp and a major gathering spot like northwest ridge instead of the islands 😭
That too
make the islands have more stuff on them too

yes, i mean west access. About south planes: you meand the jungle in the south, next to the sea? Is it now a more open area there?
Yes it is a more open bushland, a bit like highlands
But more height
i see, good to know, thanks! so was my critic/question "unfair"....as it might be the ratio trees/open land has not been changed that much?
yah theres actually more plains on the map now
or well, more 'open spaces'
since west access isnt a complete forested area but more akin to a more bushy OG east plains
and that jungle area is just straight up savannah
i see, thanks for that info! sounds promising 😉
@clever willow so does the massive plains area they added just... not exist
forks plains, north lake, the entirety south western part of the map, highlands (depending on definition), south plains, west rail access
hell west access itself isnt even true forest right now, its moreso a mix between plains/forest
@gentle rampart Not sure I understand- are you saying there is already a mutation? Or are you referring to how interacting with blood can highlight tracks? If the latter I'm aware- but blood has a smaller interval than tracks
its so funny because ive been playing carno in south and its unironically the best part of the map for carno to absolutely thrive in
but no it has a few bushes so its evil and needs to die
it’s the latter, but i hope my reply falls in line with what you were speaking about
Hey someone help me 😭
?
Then you go ask in #🔧-evrima-troubleshooting-🔧 and read pins there. Not feedback
Okay
i did similar map a while ago, let me find the gif
real bruh
@thorn field There is no need for a mechanic to support AFK mechanics
HT changed a lot and situation is better now for sure
#general-feedback message removing is imo the worst idea, imo they should slowly make gateway bigger and bigger, this map won’t sustain whole roster in the future, its too small
@lone pagoda #general-feedback message you can use the F call instead, it turns into a honk lol
That looks so cursed xD
@lone pagoda #general-feedback message Galli boosts packmates by pressing f, which doesnt do that much noise. Some just broadcast for fun
oohhh thank you guys lol
np
i accidentally deleted like 2 random pzs at the north but besides that the map is pretty much feels like this
people just don’t visit places i erased, there’s usually no water/pz/mz and it’s empty in general
so the map is not as big as people say it is
it’s just it has a lot of unused spaces
It looks so unnatural without any islands. Just because places don't get visited alot, doesnt mean they need to get removed
Something i enjoy the most is flying as a ptera around the map and just enjoy the view, or swim around to the diffrent islands as a saltwater Beipi
I also think these areas will get more traffic once more semi aquatic dinos gets introduced
i never said that
i said quite opposite
Oh i'm sorry i just assumed from the gif, that you wanted the 2nd map
I see now, its just places you find no players visit
@cyan totem Intel Iris is something known as an integrated graphics card. Most games require a dedicated graphics card. This is because most integrated graphics cards are less powerful than dedicated graphics cards, and share resources with the CPU, whereas dedicated graphics cards get their own separate power, memory, cooling etc and therefore tend to be a LOT more capable. The isle's minimum specs on steam do specifically say that integrated graphics will not work for this game.
No one knows
Yes, it's explained right under rule 10
God defines
ah ok
When the devs believe it's ready, which means: all major mechanics and animations are done and polished, all balancing work has been completed, all testing is completed and all related bugs are fixed, all associated items required for viable gameplay (other food nodes, water nodes, map changes, other playables balance and viability is done), etc
There's a lot more that goes into getting a playable ready for release than meets the eye
And I doesnt have hordetest installed, I dont play on Hordetest
@rotund fractal Where/how do I report holes in the map then?
Thank you
👍🏻
@fading pecan They do
Okay. But I also have a GeForce RTX 3070 in there. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about it.
Where
Dunno when the most recent one was, they usually use it for suggestions they want to bring forward to the entire team. Feedback is looked at regularly, it doesn't always get the emote
Is this a laptop? For example if you go to task manager on the performance tab you see 2 different GPUs?
@bleak jewel The application form is in #rules-and-info
It is not a laptop, a mini PC but the RTX is laptop version yes
You might try looking up if your computer has a "power saver" and "performance" mode selection? That might help.
If that doesn't work or your computer doesn't have those modes, you could try telling Windows to set the default GPU for the Isle game to your RTX dedicated graphics card. Sometimes the OS tries to be "efficient" and use the integrated graphics card on programs that it really shouldn't
Are you sure it has an Intel IRis GPU? Did you install it after buying it since I don't see it listed that that pc has an Arc
Also, what's the error you're getting?
^
Wait a second
Intel Iris are the integrated graphics, @cyan totem are you certain that the GPU is correctly hooked up?
Your pc shouldn't be falling back on the Iris integrated graphics unless the 3070 isn't working or enabled
That's why I asked if they can see both in task manager
Okay I'll try that, thanks for the help
I was under the assumption that they were talking about the Intel Arc dedicated GPUs, which I've seen have some problems in the past. This is not that
I have had computers in the past that didn't automatically use the dedicated graphics card for games and you had to manually change the default
Are you getting the "dx12 isn't supported" issue?
Yes this is the massage
They don’t mention going over the suggestions in the devlogs. I don’t see them talk about the suggestions anywhere. They need to do something to let us know they are actually reading our suggestions
@normal steeple Check the pinned messages in the official server channels to see how to report hackers
You need to update your GPU's drivers. You can do that either by using the Nvidia App which should be installed on your pc, or by downloading them directly from Nvidia's website
They do it every now and then
But if they had to do that everytime someone claims they don't read suggestions, then they would spend more time doing it than actually developing the game
Yeah now and then as in once a year maybe
Show me where they have talked about players suggestions and reading them?
Bro ain’t nothing in there except player suggestions lmao
I don't have every dev quote on this server saved on my computer, as strange as it may sound
But I did have one or two conversations with Punch in this very channel
Click the link maybe
just because something is suggested does not mean it will be implemented or even considered really. first of all, alot of the feedback is frankly bad, and second of all, we do not control the direction the game goes in. we are not on the development team, we are not paid by Afterthought, we really have no say in the things they do or dont decide to do
I'm linking you to a specific message in the feedback channel, which is why the embed has the message bubble at the end of it
It's a link to Kissen replying to a similar question previously in the channel saying they do read it (and they had to read it to know someone asked if devs even read it and reply)
Ah gotcha
@icy lion @faint folio
I have it, everything is up to date. I wrote to Nvidia support last week and went through everything. I reset the entire PC once, and unfortunately, the same thing still happens.
The Nvidia App says your drivers are updated?
Yes
Are you able to see the GPU in the Device Manager, not just the Task Manager? It'll be under Display Adapters
Yes
Alright, there's another issue going on then. The specs your pc has are more than capable of running the game, this is some other issue
Kissens half assed response isn’t good enough. You know communication between the devs and players is a problem if people have been suggesting the same ways for the devs to let us know that they hear us for years and nothing has really changed.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000090168/graphics.html
If you really do have both Intel Iris and the RTX 3070, you could try this? Maybe it's using the wrong one
The 3070 should be more than capable of using Dx12
Where does the claim that "nothing has really changed for years" comes from ?
Thank you very much, I will try it
Players have been asking the devs to communicate better for years and they haven’t done anything to change that
The best we got recently was kissens post
I think it would be kind of cool to have a feedback spotlight section of dev blogs where they pick 1-2 suggestions that got forwarded to the team and talk about it (with a written caveat up top that just because it's featured doesn't mean it'll be added to the game)
Let us know if it works! We can keep trying to troubleshoot if it doesn't. Sorry you're having problems 😭
I mean
If I was busy developing a triple-A title on a genre that does not exist yet with 30 other people I wouldn't care much about entertaining the part of the community who complains about the lack of communication either
Part of their job is to communicate with their player base lmao
But you are right, they don’t seem to care very much
It is only Punch's job
Devs have a duty to their player base to communicate properly. I dont think it’s right to solo out one developer
I'll keep you updated
It’s a problem from the whole team
Nah, he's community manager for a reason
Alrighty
An animator has no obligation to interact with the community at all
Yeah even doing that would be a nice change
True, but whoever put one person in charge of all communication is as much to blame for the lack of
@cyan totem Sorry to bother again but I just remembered something, what version of Win11 do you have?
Y'all are both right. Devs do have an obligation to communicate with their players when they're selling an early access title. But Punch was hired to handle that communication interface between devs and the community at large.
I feel like a big part of the problem is it takes a long time to implement changes to the game (it's complicated to patch of course), which means that the feedback loop from suggestions to patch is slow enough that it's hard to see cause and effect. Players making suggestions want to see that their suggestions have an effect, and one way to accomplish this is to have devs acknowledge certain suggestions they liked or thought were well thought out or were particularly creative in dev blogs
Wind11 pro
Yeah definitely
Wouldn't that motivate people do do a popularity contest even more, to have a chance at being mentioned in a dev blog ?
they do communicate? dondi and a few other devs come and talk in the discord every few weeks or so?
Is it on version 22H2 or higher? Out-of-date OS can cause that error too
Maybe I'm just cynical
But I cannot trust masses of people to ever act smart
But people who aren’t on the discord at the exact time don’t see that they are saying anything so maybe there should be a channel where they tag what has been said. IE more communication
Maybe, but not really. We already know that the suggestions selected to be forwarded to the rest of the dev team aren't chosen based on the number of agree reacts they get. Therefore, suggestions featured may not actually be the "popular" suggestions
In mean it more in the sense of trying to get the devs attention towards their feedback whenever possible
They usually talk in #isle-discussion, but the problem is that chat is insanely busy all the time. Their comments are buried unless you happen to be in that chat when they come in to answer questions. Unless someone screenshots their comments and responds to your feedback showing you what they said, there's no way for the majority of players to see that. Most people see what's in the dev blogs, announcement, and patch notes, and MAYBE a dev stream if their timezones match the devs or if they watch a YouTube video from a content creator who happens to have been able to attend that dev stream
I'm not sure. I know multiple other games feature community members in their dev blogs, though. Valheim shows off 1-2 player created bases every dev blog from what's sent into the devs as fan art. DoD does this too. Lioden (browser game, I know) credits community members when suggestions are accepted and added to the game. In all 3 the system seems to work. Now, the isles fan base seems more rabid in comparison, so I don't know if that would work or not, or if some other system would help (maybe a Q&A section of the dev blog where devs summarize answers to questions they saw in gen chat so that everyone can see them would work better?). But I think a large amount of the player base is incredibly frustrated with QOL issues among others, and just posting in one of their main communication channels that they see it would go a long way. For example: we've seen a lot of feedback about a surge in alleged hacking attempts recently. We are looking into multiple options to try to combat this in our game
Half of PR is letting people know that you hear their concerns and you're looking into it
@clever willow the new biome ironically does help carno and basically every carnivore
since now they won't be able to see you coming from the opposite corner of the grasslands
Prey are not forced to be aware at all times instead of chilling and lowering their guard in the open
I see that people don't really want to talk about that in this discussion so I'm going to.
Although yes communication and transparency is extremely important for the development of a early access game, you also have to consider that the devs have to protect themselves. I know this sounds dramatic but as somebody who is part of this community for a while I can tell you that the isle community can become pretty vile. Aggressive rants / venting, rudeness that borders on insults, entitlement and misinformation can get rampant in the channels. And that's just the discord.
If you look at Youtube, you have the same stuff only dialed up to 11. For instance there was a case some time ago in which a youtuber made a drama slop video about one of the animators. Stuff like this can lead to harassment. And considering how the general "gamer community" is like on youtube (not very progressive nor thoughtful), that harassment can become extra nasty.
As an example on how this can affect the development, you can look at another IP: Project Zomboid. Harassment caused in some devs mental health issues which lead to delays and even considerations to sell the IP.
Just keep that perspective in mind. It get's overlooked a lot.
The isle is a goated survival indie
agreed
YESSSS
Yeah for sure, I’ve been apart of it for about 8 years or so. But that is different then them just acknowledging our suggestions and taking the time to tell us that they hear us. Even just mention some in the dev logs or make a channel about some of the suggestions they are going to look into. Simple things like that
oh agreed. That would be nice. I just wanted to throw that perspective in when it comes to directly communicating with the devs.
Yeah I gotcha
i have this also #general-feedback message
just needs a bit more options thats all
how did you get that male display
it's me who did it, it's in my general feedback, I have just added a 3rd image#general-feedback message
triple-a is more of a dev/company related thing, and for blockbusters.
Afterthought LLC only has The Isle, and is for a fairly niche experience.
They are pretty much in the Indie to maybe double A range.
(doesn't change anything, if anything I'd say being smaller scale gives less of a duty in the sense that they have a very specific goal and don't answer to as many non-team higher ups expecting interaction)
I wanna play with a pale brown or even a bit yellow rex skin
Savannah/highland rex
Everything is so brown and yellow now in some areas that maybe you’re better off with a dull yellow skin than green
plsss I hope the devs listen me
Votes are meaningless
They will do as they like, only thing where I can see votes mattering is a dev skipping a suggestion if it has a laughably bad like to dislike ratio
However, its so widely requested that the posture thing might as well happen eventually
🇼
do the devs actually look at the general feedback channel
feels like we all just talking into the void
they need to add a mark that shows they actually see it and consider it
Probably not, but maybe yes... The devs don't do what the community asks for, they do what they think should be done, just look at all this exaggerated addition of trees in any flat area of the map
they do every once in a while but i haven't seen one for a while though
@oblique hornet Are you talking about this? #isle-lore-theories message
Why not?
2 downvoted is a good amount since there's only 5 upvotes
Wanna hear those who downvoted's opinion
yeaa
it was shown in a video as well
@graceful kite the devs did this on purpose for testing.
not a feature worth the devs spending time better suited to work on new playables, bugs and would result is janky looking animals. Map isnt big enough for that kind of genetic biodiversity
i dont think its a bad suggestion, it just feels kinda unneeded with Utah coming in the future. Troodon as a whole is completely separate from its ((most likely not real)) IRL counterpart so feathers don't make thaaat much sense.
i also don't think anywhere on gateway is cold enough to really believably induce feather growth, nor do i think anywhere is hot enough on the map where the animals would change significantly. they were designed to be comfortable in the enviorment they're in
in a perfect world, it's a very cool suggestion and would add a good chunk of player interactivness with the enviorment, but it's not a perfect world. the amount of work that would go into it just isn't worth the final product
this^ visually diffrent specimens of the same breed is cool, but not cool enough to push off the long list of other playables, attention needed on bugs, balance changes, and newly added features
i do think the lip part of it was cool though, and probably the most feasible option (but still probably unneeded due to the change being so small alongside water being a requirement in game anyway)
there are 19 current playables and an unknown list of others who have models complete and devs would have to tend to each of them, their lifecycle models, too many to go back to the drawing board on. but i def agreed it would be cool in concept just not in practice
I don't like the idea of these being things that suddenly grow on your dino based on where you've spent a lot of time
Feels weird and out of place
Make them customization options before you spawn in, not weird growths
have you actually seen what trike looks like in game
because it looks a lot different to the skin creator version for some reason
the neck looks just as bad
I did notice the small dip on its shoulders still being there
maybe its using its spar mode posture in skin editor
@zenith pagoda Some of us wish this would come back, but I don't think it will sadly 😦
Yeah, carno now is decent but it could be much better, we will just have to wait until new playables come out like allo or bary, see if the devs buff carno a lil bit.
Carno is just fine tho
So your intention will be to live in an environment until you grow up, these dinosaurs will be somewhat unique, not stronger or anything like that, but a small design change.
Right, and I don't think that suddenly sprouting lips or feathers makes sense or is desirable
Lemarckian evolution, basically
Map must get a increasement in some places ofc, like New biomes and the changes would be small overall, like a small scar maybe? With the biggest ones being the ones I mentioned
As an evolution, overall, a bit exaggerated to make it more interesting
not to be realistic they do not and expanding gateway is a terrible idea. harsh landscape changes look SUPER tacky and soil the realism of the game. evolutionary changes are in the game and are viewable in species such as diablo v trike v pachyrhino v proto and bary v sucho v spino and omni v utah v austro. making changes that players cannot change to fill the gaps would be a huge workload, wouldnt be good for the majority of the playerbase as we dont want it
When I saw it, the vote was positive, it would be a small feature that would change your creature little by little, being a different customization where you need to deserve it in a certain way.
It would be a cool mechanic to observe and see the changes of each creature and the player can change, he just needs to live in the environment he wants.
sometimes good ideas are bad ideas. its a hard pill to swallow but it just isnt a good idea for practical reasons, plus it would work entirely against patrol zones and migration zones
HT carno is unironically the most fun I've had with the animal, like, ever
go to the new southern savannah area, play a carno, get a pack, and it's legitimately the most fun you can have on that animal its SO good
yeah but like I said, it was just fine
good for the changes, but it wasn't bad
#general-feedback message anyone who disagrees with this explain why
because it doesn’t affect performance as much as you think it does
i’d say it doesn’t affect at all
Well you are wrong
Not much else to say
Each of those islands has fully rendered trees and grass and vegetation which is like half of where gpu processing power goes
no they don't lol they have like nothing on them
also render distance means you literally are not renderring that grass
removing them would change nothing about performance. there is nothing on them already
in fact, i can guarantee removing those islands will have an exact 0% impact on performance, because all that will change is the above water dirt will turn to below water dirt. Nothing is actually "removed" besides some grass your GPU never renders
You are objectively wrong dont know what else to say
Those islands have trees and vegetation
You can fly with ptera and see it
Are you fr rn
show me the trees lmao because i've been to those islands many times
they are basically barren
not just trees but other vegetation
it's grass. grass your PC doesn't render from a distance
you know what has a lot more vegetation? literally everywhere else
It has trees
remove the main island and you'll get a 50% performance boost
remove the side islands and you MIGHT be lucky to see 5%
because you're wrong lol
considering how big the islands are
they're tiny and barren lmao
i honestly think you just haven't actually gone to them
Your the one who's objectively wrong and claimed there was no trees lol
Yes I have I flew there as ptera
ive swum there as beipi, teno, flew there as ptera, and it's always desolate and basically just effectively a desert island lol
besides the grass, there's no water, food or plants
it's a fun visit but it doesn't have literally anything there
No food yeah but theres trees
Thats exactly why it should be removed because performance is more important than dead islands
i can remember maybe, what, a few dozen trees, compared to the literal thousands on the main island
they do not matter in the grand scheme of things
Its not a few dozen its a thousand atleast just from guessing
not last i checked lol
you're absolutely wrong. tbh if you went and counted there are like 50 trees on them all combined.
Top left fot sure I know
Because i went there as ptera for crabs
Didnt find crabs but still
Lotd of trees
none of them even have trees or bushes, and no, they don’t render the grass
lmao true
genuinely idk where this dude went
Wrong
send some actual photo proof lmao
well show me then
because everyone else in the world but you remembers the island having little to no trees
i've been there too and you couldn't cut them all down to build an ikea chair. though there is a salt lick there for no reason if i remember correctly
Most of those islands have palms and obviously grass, but neither render from the main island
Not sure if unrendered trees could affect things still though
borderline misinformation atp
okay i've literally just found a video to see this dude's claims
it has, what, a few dozen palm trees. you'd find more in highlands than on these islands
i’d say even that is a lot.. i’d expect close to 0%..
And a GUTS entrance or two
so yea, there's some trees. but not enough to even matter in the grand scheme of things
you'd see not even a 5% boost at the cost of losing a fun little area
Bruh this is diabolical
likw 0.005% lol
it’s the closest island, the big one doesn’t have anything on it as far as i remember
Thats like the smallest island are u fr right now
yeah the big one literally doesn’t have anything on it
and has the most foliage
Go to the one on top left
that's also one of the most dense islands in terms of foliage
Even then should be nuked
no
Yes
No reason not to
they also make the game look nicer. i love seeing the smaller islands off the shore, it's super cool
Or bare minimum remove ALL trees
literally i dont care about some barren islands they could nuke it I wouldnt notice even
i would
there will be no impact on performance
it ain't about you buddy, they want the islands around
saved
@dire bear I agree with removing these islands. Even if they don't affect performance that much, they're just taking up unnecessary space, nobody goes there and there's no reason to go there.
i always mistype “performance” 😭
they're fun. and the devs have something planned for them. reason enough to keep them
that's why GUTS tunnels exist on them
Of course, keeping something that negatively affects the game's performance for something that will only be added 2 years in the future xd
"negatively impacts the game's performance"
you ain't even losing 1 frame per second over those islands be real
“no one goes there” is honestly not true, i was there multiple times, it’s just cool place, not to mention it’s just not finished, they will 100% make gateway bigger and bigger because it’s too small to sustain whole planned roster
this is just making an issue out of something that was never an issue in the first place
the map will get new content eventually, even tho those islands don’t have anything on them yet
The game has poor optimization, so any extra fps is good.
Thanks atleast someone agrees
you won't get any lol
Yes we would
literally you will not get extra FPS from those islands being gone
yeah
We would tho
there's literally no reason to delete the island
you wouldn’t😭
Theres no reason NOT to delete it
yes we would
there’s no reason to delete it
if they didnt want them there then they wouldnt be there
literally harmless spot that adds more life to the map? kill it i simply MUST placebo myself into thinking i'll get more frames for my epic combat gameplay
you might get + 0.00000000001% fps boost tho
Yall know the devs had 80% of spiro be inaccesible yet still having fully rendered trees right. Gateway has the same with the islands
yea but those areas were actually dense with trees, and the plains were still worse optimised somehow LMAO
If the amount of trees on the map were reduced instead of increased as is being done in the hordtest, the performance would be great and there would be no need to do this with these Useless islands
Still no reason not to nuke the islands
Best solution just nuke trees in general
the amount of trees got reduced in the hordetest. they literally nuked one of the densest jungles in the game for the new savannah type biome
still no reason to nuke
Way too much foliage
tropical islands do tend to have foliage, yes
Thats a good thing
did i say it was bad?
Who knows
They literally filled west access and west rail with trees man xd
it made an unlivable space livable. that's good
now they should do that to the offshore islands
Thats bad then
let people have things to explore even if you don't get any fun out of it others might
Only 1 dino can explore it
not at all, majority can
i think my favourite thing is the fact so many isle players get so angry when they see more trees, bushes or grass
it's a touch grass meme writing itself
I mean good luck exploring those islands with a cera lol
it's actually quite doable
More like we see grass in real life, and dont need to see more in game, unlike you 😂
AI spawns on the island, and cera is an exceptionally good swimmer
combine that with a saltwater mut and its quite easy to live there
yeah it’s an amazing swimmer, you can easily get there and swim back if you won’t be able to find ai to eat
Ai spawns there? Thats even worse
There's a good reason why they're so mad about this over-addition of trees in the flat areas lol
you played a game about a tropical island what did you expect
Its unnecessary
given the area looks and feels better, no i dont really see it
i've explored all the new areas and it feels so much better
Performance is more important than "immersion"
no
what?
do you know how rendering works?
Vast majority dont like it
you can have both
Yes
explain then
never seen ai there tbh👀 i saw some crab spawns near tho
No
but crabs spawn only when there’s beipi nearby
its rare and you need to actually be ON the island for a while
ahh fair
🗿
bc you're going to give some incorrect statement on how the game does not actually render random trees when noone is around them
Game does actually render all trees at the same time. Trees in the isle does not work like grass
Placing these trees in these areas will only make players focus even more on the remaining flat spots... And the only reason I see you Liking all these exaggerated trees around the map is because you have a good PC
the statement is so incorrect and senseless its almost like youre trying to ragebait over some trees lmao
my PC is okay
Yea what PC do u have?
false
i haven't felt any performance changes idk what you're on about
Its not false
the game runs about exactly the same for me
🇺🇸 custom🇺🇸
Not an answer
it is
No one asked u
but my graphics card is an nvidia if you mean brand
Well it depends on the model
If you haven't felt any change in performance, you don't have an "okay" PC, you have a Good PC.
3060 or 5090 lol big difference
the game doesnt pick and choose what to render based off your gpu
You just said you have no clue how graphics rendering work
its your position in the 3D space
Im done arguing nvm
Theres no point arguing about graphics rendering when theres ppl who dont even know how gpus work
My fps in west access is around 50-70 in public branch, but in hordtest (in the same location) it drops to 40
(With the addition of these trees)
Thats seems right
Trees are hardest thing in many games to render except for raytracing
And considering this is a ue5 game it is
That's exactly why I've been complaining so much. Players like Mr. Alphonsen won't notice this because they have an obviously above average PC.
stub A frame's arrival on the display is predicated on an unseen pipeline of command processing within the GPU. The game's engine calls the shots and dictates what's happening instant-to-instant, and the GPU is tasked with drawing the triangles and geometry, textures, rendering lighting, post-processing effects, and dispatching the packaged fram...
avengers theme starts playing
dont tell me idk how processing works when i used to be a fivem developer lmao
You have no clue if you think the gpu does not affect tree rendering. No clue
when far far away they arent there, when far away they are there with low poly models (kinda like the clay buildings on GTA) and when close they are high poly models
^simplistic for you
That depends on the GAME
Not in the isle
Isle does not use LOD's
Big budget games like gta or rdr2 do yeah but not most indie games
brother there are two UE5 info pages from epic games, the owner of Unreal Engine
read them and come back and tell us you're wrong
I just told you why you are wrong
It is up to the developer to create LODs
What part of that do you not understand? I used to make games in unity I know what im talking about
Dont try to convince me on things I already know
I'm not gonna waste time attempting to logic with someone who knows theyre wrong when I provided you with the information from the engine owners
Game assets dont magically create different versions of themselves for LOD rendering its up to the devs
Please go watch a video on how lod's work
https://youtu.be/fk7mTsgYSI8?si=JDpNqiiC8PTUjj_P the isle has a culling range for trees go to view distance kyrill.
This video shows you epic settings are a lie. Here you will see how to improve your FPS with my settings breakdown!

ik you didn't ask but I figured I'd say it anyways while the topics here
If you fly up as ptera high you can see ALL trees on the island
The devs made LODs in this game
Nanite is in use now that the game is in UE5 #isle-discussion message
I checked all your links and they are talking about adding LOD's in the future
Nanite isnt LOD and doesnt perform as well
Did you look at the dates they were sent
Doesnt mean they added them
😶🌫️
And they don't say "we're looking to add LODs" they say "we're looking to improve our LODs"
I think what they mean is the grass nanite rendering
"[the screenshot] shows what the [game's] tree LODs look like"
The screenshots in question
all quiet on the western front now lol
@azure ruin Psittacosaurus pick them up causing them to bug out and cant be eaten or grabbed
same with frogs and sometimes troodons
I thought I was experiencing the weirdest voodoo LMAO
The one without nanite has no LOD's, nanite is the "Lod" they are referring too
Read pls
Grabbing a troodon is crazy
I swear to God this dude is an AI

"it is recommended" guy strikes again
#general-feedback message
Someone doesn't know how game engines work
Oh yeah lmaoooo
As if deleting 5% of the map would make you go from 40 to 60 fps average 😭 😭 😭
And also when water is also part of the map, and plants…and AI, and playables…
He changed his argument up from "optimisation" to "i dont like them" midway through btw
Literally said he doesn't visit them so they shouldn't exist
The day when he said that he would like a desert and when debunked said
I dont like your arguments bro. Just because a biome isnt advantageous to half the roster does not mean it shouldnt exist
Like what
I think he's doing like some kind of "voice of the people" bit, hence the "player representative" thing, but it just seems to me like he suggests something in a formal way and just pretends everyone else wants it lol
And by not advantageous = unusable
I gave a good hypothetical using para as for why that would be bad and just went “nuh uh para ain’t yet in the game”
Desert and snow biomes are both equally bad because there's
A: No real way to realistically add them in a space that isn't immediately jarring
B: Seriously invalidates huge swaths of the roster, not just 1 or 2 animals
Like yea, the new savannah is a real hard blow to deino, but its not like the rest of the roster can't interact with it. Like how south plains isn't the best for herrera, but makes for a good transition between more advantageous areas for it
No no, he meant it as in “it’s not in the game yet so why use it as comparison”
😭 😭 😭
When it is a perfectly valid and reasonable point with an upcoming playable
I love how when discussing a biome that doesn't exist in-game, using a dino that doesn't exist in-game to counter an argument is unreasonable
Lmao
And yeah I agree with that. Deino is terrible anyway and needs a rework and also mechanics like droughts and discouraging people from drinking still water to not be garbo, but for the most part there’s no area in the game that is completely unusable for any playable
No even in sp herras can perform well, or in west access
It’s not like they’re COMPLETELY countered by a biome that just makes no sense to put in a damn tropical jungle unless you make the map 500x500km at the very least
One thing I do like about the new savannah is it looks like it won't be as safe as people think. Carnos roam there and basically dominate as the environment is near perfect for them
And with a very forced topography
Yup, I really like it because not only you cannot really run through the bushes for cheap cover since they are obstacles, but on top of that you can no longer stick to the open and be able to see someone coming from a mile away like you could in grasslands previously, so people back then could just turn their brain off and just look around every now and then because not even a juvenile omni could ambush you there
Like I went there as a galli and HT carno is a MONSTER in that environment. On top of the area completely supporting it, its new stam means it can endurance hunt a galli pretty damn well and keep on its tail
1800kg carno would struggle, but thanks to 1300kg carno's higher max speed with charge, it can keep pace with galli quite well, and on top of the stam and lack of obstacles/deep water to slow it down, you basically need to gtfo or you WILL be killed out there
The shallow water is unironically another huge boon to carno. It hates deep water, but in this environment there's none of that, there's effectively no good way to get away from a carno. I imagine it'll be a pretty carno-dominated environment for a while
And my favorite part about the Savannah and all the new bushes: makes ambushes especially with thinks like rex a lot more skillful, or at least that is what is surely going to happen
Without being totally countered like it would have happened with the old grasslands
Savannah adult rex having to sneak its way around the bushes rather than through them is gonna be so peak
Juvi rex is gonna be cooked unless they are absolutely cracked and also subtle
(I love that)
It’s pointless to suggest this right now but…
Please, I really wish they do Rex growth as shown by Dondi where it is deino curve but more comically extreme with 40% growth (like…5 hours on 100% diet) Rex being 900kg
🙏 🙏 🙏 make it the most hardcore thing ever
version 24H2
Mountains are considered dead space for a lot of people
But a snowy mountain ? Dead dead space
compared to a literal mountain? in this game where both climbing and surviving falls are a consistent hassle?
yea no it's hella dead space
we already have a volcano, and additionally, a snowy mountain on a tropical island would look absurd. you know how tall/much space you'd need to allocate just to this mountain?
True, the jungle is not
Can't wait to go to a mountain to
-Waste all my stamina climbing up there
-Can't find any food
-Freeze to death
-Have nowhere do hide because I stick out like a sore thumb
-Risk falling to my death at every step
no food, no water, no good way to ambush, need to constantly watch your step (so basically don't sprint), it's FREEZING, takes up a colossal portion of the map, cuts off travel for basically everyone
