Okay, I have made my way to Subira's store and lol, there's so much to do in this game - what's the most effective way to gather essence? Is it gatherables/hunting/fishing/bug hunts?

Party up with friends/others each equipping a different maxed relic and many lures. A4 cliffside is a great spot.
Bag of illusions, brighteye, and lantern are most helpful, idol isn't important when luring since it tracks.

Back when I was farming for everything that required essence like the furniture, nameplates etc we would drop 2 at a time on that cliff and come home with about 6-9k essence per load using that method and lots of gold from beetle/frog sales.

from my experiance, it dosent use star items at all

it doesn't use star items, or rather it only uses them if you JUST have starred items. For example if you need 4 Garden Snails for a tint and you have 6 unstarred and 4 starred ones you can't make 2 tints in one round. You have to make one with the unstarred ones, leave the tint table, click in it again and THEN you can use the starred Snails. It's a whole thing ...

if someone is on your friends list, the end tab will send u to their server, its join server so mates can play together

if your on the same server, that "join server" button wont show up, also the game generally places u on the same server many times as on your friends list

You (generally) change servers every time you go to a new map or exit a village and come back to it.

For example: server hopping for Zeki market. Exit the UG, and go back in. Generally new server.

also another thing to add on if you plan on hosting cooking parties, be wary about the server you are on, as servers stay online, they degrade in performance so the game will then advise you if you want to server merge, if you refuse, you get to stay in the server a little more longer until you receive another warning when it will then force you to server merge. this is important to know as ever since they introduced these in the game, players have been having issues with the feature, lacie herself has said that as long as your server is less than 2 hrs old, you should be fine hosting it on the server and be able to have a smooth cooking party

Those can't be pulled from inventory you have to go out and obtain new ones.

Completing the bundles rewards you with the kilima coins which are used in the catelogue, right now its also giving a excess of what you need to craft any new tint introduced with the updates,

So if you aren't interested in the seasonal items or already have them from the prior events, then you wont need the coins, and the bugs/materials can be easily obtained by yourself so completing the bundles is just bonus materials,

From what I understand it has the same formula the fishing potion does, the fishing potion increases your catch chance of legendaries/epics by "50%",

However its not additive, it's a flat 50 to the base spawn rate, so if the maws only has a 2% spawn rate, with the potion its now a whopping 4%, , from what was explained to me anyway

The essence potion has a chance to boost your essence collection by the same amount, but if you only get 2 essence from the orb you picked up then the potion is only giving you 4 total

I think it can be stacked with the bright eye and idol for maximum yield but that's alot of people juggling since not very many people bother getting more than the bag of illusion

Super quick, maybe silly question, but why does the "random" option in the home tours not work? The "featured", "trending", and "latest" tabs all list a bunch of plots, but the "random" one has nothing and just says "No results"

After my very first use of the Angler's Potion my take away was this:
Should have just saved the Kilima coins. Not enough of a 'boost' to make it worth it. In 3 hours I caught 4 Rares. No epics or legendaries at all spawned while this was active. Granted I was only fishing in nodes, so running to and from those took some time out sure... but that should not have been THAT bad.

From how I understand it, the 50% only applies to the base rate, so lets say Maws has a base catch rate of 3%. adding 50% to that only boosts it to a whooping.. 4.5%, (rough math) so I wouldn't really say its worth getting, I mean a small increase is better than nothing but still

Maws is a rare catch cause it rarely hooks, going from level 32 fishing to level 50 I caught 4 starred maws only using brew

I just looked it up, if you have brighteye amulet 4 equipped, you can get essence you just need the proper ammo to get it, the Elderwood arrows, bombs, etc

But if you have the bag of illusion 4 equipped then you don't need the special ammo but lose the essence boost

I don't mind fishing and can spend hours doing it ( I'm level 93 fishing ) I don't play Palia as much as I should because trying to balance it with SWTOR , Lost Ark, Where Winds Meet but there's one fish I absolutely HATE. The shark. Any of the sharks are just so evil and I can never catch them yet I can catch rarer fish without buffs 🤣
