There have been so many changes that affect us. I still want things to return to the game that changed two years ago. I’ll keep hoping, but after a bit, I’m guess I’m resigned to the fact that they’re not likely to go back to the way I’d like.

Alright, then it’s “back in my day” storytime

Once upon a time when dailies were first added to aviary land, it was also through a spirit. They wore a valley outfit and had a sick mohawk I think My friends and I called them Don Quixote (get it… DQ… daily quests) and they were absolutely broken most of the time 😭 It was still fun waving to them every day and using the table to show them all around aviary before they were inevitably removed. They were also not the only iteration of this system.

It took a long time for TGC to reach the home space dynamic and daily quests we have today. It came back in the form of spirits, with the old off-season one being changed to better suit what the devs thought the game needed, and who knows what might happen next. You really never know and you can voice your thoughts, but also have to settle in the long run with what we’re given and focus on other things you enjoy

realistically i dont think qg has to come back. i think it makes sense for them not to, they dont need to. tgc doesnt have to bring anything back. theres plenty of stuff thats been removed in the game that hasnt come back, and thats just how it is unfortunately. i think the mindset of "they will come back someday, they have to, it makes sense" will just lead to disappointment

Yes, I think there is definitely a big potential to add a more darker element to sky. I don't think I've ever been more genuinely nervous than when I had to venture deep into the ocean for the abyss quests. And Eden has given me multiple heart attacks when I first started (tho now it's just frustration from being concussed by the rocks)

That's what FSR would help with. The game will render at a lower resolution on mid range and low end devices for performance reasons, but the upscaler (or lack thereof) makes it feel like a bad PS1 port.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm watching this 11hr playthrough of light awaits and when they get to the bell tower area in Prairie, there's this really gorgeous song playing and I'm wondering if it's still in the game or not. It’s especially obvious with things that were already pointy (like edges of rock and the icicles on the hill on the way down to the ice rink). Forest trees are smoother, more uniform looking, less natural. The overhangs in Forest look like pancakes; the ice drifts near the ice rink are no longer attached to the ice. Even in what you would think of “round” shapes, like inside tunnels, you’ll see more obvious sharp angles in places. The overall effect is that everything is flatter looking, especially at a distance.

They reduced the polygon count throughout the realms. It’s really noticeable if you’re looking.

Oh, and it’s in Live also. You can look at it there.

So... We know they can manually reset quest progress. (They did it for Abyss testing). What's stopping them from resetting a previous season and have it run off season for players who want to do the quests again or new players who haven't lived the season? TS pool is getting too large to reliably get a past seasonal cosmetic you want. For a game that's about altruism and inclusivity, the way they run it sure as hell doesn't feel like that's what the game is about at all.

I just realized the harp pack is actually kinda alright. If you do the math, 5 dollars usually gets you 15 candles, a heart costs 3, 3 x 5 = 15. So thus, the harp would be about the same as the iap harp if you bought a candle pack to get it. I'm not ok with tgc making the harp an iap anyways, but if you do the math, it kinda makes sense.

I started mid Abysss, I am about the same point in Performance. I have all of the cosmetics I wanted out of my pass, which is less-than-half, and I am hardly able to bug myself to go collect seasonal candles. Hearts are so expensive/time-consuming to collect that I barely spend them though i now have plenty. They take time to eak out. Even spending the hour a day to get ~15 is become unto work. People that I have met and gifted either regular harts or IAP's are on different schedules and I hardly see them. They get busy in their own lives and don't show up so I lose my connection and to get more hearts candles I have to devote an hour to "Candle running" and then more time to socializing up new people who may themselves disapear.

...as I am probably about to do because there frankly isn't enough content. It feels like they aren't taking advantage of some simple methods to allow people to entertain themselves. They may be working really hard to make sure everything fits this involved storyline and world design... or [insert its not that deep fam pic] they just aren't devoting the same energy into modeling and adding resources to the game than I am willing to just to point out how they could make an improvement.

The art and design that has been done on this game appears to be done with love, with care. However either they don't have enough artists or there is some other hurdle between TGC and producing at a pace to afford them the income they want with out over charging for the IAPs.

sky can’t decide what it wants to be. free to play and mobile would make it very accessible but it’s really hard to sustain that without a bunch of iaps, and that’s kind of crashing down on the game now. Honestly it probably shouldn’t have released on mobile, but still given a mobile port. Also doesn’t have to be some kind of crazy price but free to play also drags it down

I think silent purchases have happened more often though history than you might want to know... Lots of companies have been 'restructured' without loosing their facade or alerting the customers until it came to light after the fact.

Is that what's happening here? I dunno. I do parallel a lot of other people feeling the same focus on IAP. In just my short time and research it feels like the gameplay has shifted from exploration with new friends, to a fancy paper doll simulator with a grind wheel and Fomo to power it.

Now the performance stage is a work of art. Its largest issue is server size, you either have to you-tube your play, or its audience/crew size is highly limited. It does however look like a great toy for any group of regular players to create with.

My issue is there aren't a lot of drop-in-drop-out stuff of use. To make anything of lasting artistic value on that stage will take coordination and communication beyond silly gestures. We don't have a zone with rocks and leaves we can use as checker pieces or game tokens. We don't have a host of other ways for people to create content by themselves.

I dove into Sky (heh) with all wonder "How Adorable!" "What a cute mythos they seem to have" "OMGosh I have to collect all these gestures and ... ", but those soon turned too "I have to collect how many?" "I can only get how many per day?" "Diminishing returns?" "They re-send Traveling Spirits that have already appeared when others haven't?" ('Random' == generated scarcity)

The gesture system allowing people to have basic communication across any language is brilliant. The focus on grinding and IAP's is not.

Eehhhh... I don't know... I see where it's coming from but I'm not sure I completely agree... Like, I played real grind-grind games (because when I was younger I somehow liked such a gameplay in games). Yes, I do agree sky is repetitive and can get really boring with it's gameplay (and something like adding a "sharing space" will not really help that) but... How else devs will keep it f2p and free of ads if not with IAPs..?
I usually have more than enough candles for TS and events at the same time. I keep making new friends around sky but I mostly play with my established friends (and it keeps being this way for the second year) but we still can make it to be a fun time just by acting with childish silliness.
But as always, if there are any ideas how to fix what's bothering you - better use that feedback channel

It isn't the existence IAPs it's that the price vs product doesn't seem like its a fair. Your ability to grind out enough candles to buy the IAPs does not legitimize the system, or make it any less of a grind. You even say you know its grindy, you just don't want to speak bad about it. You have 24 hours in a day. Experienced players can clear their chevrons in aprox. one hour. To do so they have to use Geyser->farm until->Grandma->farm until->Turtle. It's an hour of doing a rote action, for a specific pay out. It is work not play.

Having some regular friends who also want to hang out in Sky means that the game is for you less about gameplay, and more a convenient hangout. You could hang out as well in Discord. People have for many years used any chat system to spend time with their friends. That doesn't mean that Sky is keeping up content. The moment anyone has collected their candles for the day the only things they have left to do are chat with, or spam emotes with their friends. They could 'explore' but the world is small, even when you consider the OOB areas which now seem to be considered part of content... Thus it becomes the sky themed digital doll house. There are many games that have gone this way, some have more or less content to play with. For comparison look at something like IMVU (which has its own problems).

Also this is a conversation and we have previously stated that we HAVE tried official means of expressing our concerns. This discussion is in part about how they don't seem to be listening, as the changes to the beta don't reflect what we are voicing issues about. The prices are still high and the cost/reward ratio is moving away from acceptable. I'd wager that everyone in this chat loves Sky to one extent or another and is honestly seeking to save the game from the ignominy that befalls so many other games that become more about purchasing things, than gameplay or content to consume.

Too many IG items? - too much to grind (like this time it will be an actual grind, especially for moths). Many quests in season? (each week for example to make up for lack of content) - too much work and seasons will be longer in development, so much bugs to fix. Making candles to be collectable infinitely during one day - it's pretty harmful for health because there will be kids and people who can't stop playing. Small locations to explore - too quickly gets boring. Big locations - hard to fill with interesting stuff... Something will suffer either way

Maybe TGC can peek at some riddle-puzzle-like games where you need friends so they can develop a season where you can work together to gather wax

Without numbers it is hard to issue such decisions. They have more than 10million installs on play store, no way to know how many of those players purchase anything, however they also have IOS and now HUWAI (spl?). Lets shoot at a number and see if someone has reason to argue. Lets say the sell 1million digital guitars. Multiply that by $30 or $15 and see how much money they can earn off of a single IAP. Now look at the number of IAP they have/are adding. It really does not seem like they could possibly suffering for income. I'd wager everyone at TGC is well paid ++.

It's not that no effort is happening, plenty is. The Stage is great, though it is limited by server capacity. The gesture system is great, but it's only so useful without more to do than candle run. We need more toys and things to play with, more... just more. I would go on but I already risk redundancy at this point.

I think there are ways to fix the issue. I don't think we here in this chat have all the info we would need to generate (a) perfect solution(s). All we can do is throw things at TGC and wait to see if something sticks.

Like the stage, its there, but it is both limited and kind of hidden. IMHO, the stage should have an entry in home.

It's a great idea, but every time I enter the stage there are 1-3 players afk, 1-3 players changing the stage at seeming random. It's a great toy, but only for groups of people who can coordinate to take it over and use it together.

That makes it easier to coordinate and use the stage without other people interfering, however now you have limited interaction with strangers which is what powers half of Sky.

Another thing that might help is player created content. IMVU, SecondLife, etc... have all survived by letting the players fill in tons of the content gap, they just run the infrastructure. Not unlike a venue maintains a building and facilities, and the events come in and use the space. However player generated content is a whole host of other difficulties that I doubt Sky wants to deal with.

We just got a Wasteland season tho, and last year at this time we got a Vault season
My bet goes to Isle, although Prairie could also be possible
Don't think it will be forest because it already has 2 seasons.
If we do get an Eden season, don't think it will be the next one after Performance.
if i end up being wrong I'm not complaining tho, i want that Eden lore

Vault seems more likely for the "dark" season over prairie. They both only have one dedicated seasonal area. (Sanct Islands and starlight desert respectively... Dedicated seasonal area meaning Enchantment and later seasons, since earlier seasons added small nooks in multiple maps if they added areas) edit: oh, isle has only prophecy, but that's a one off since isle is the tutorial level, so they wouldn't want many players causing traffic there.

Yeah that's what I was emphasizing. Everyone was quick to say eden and get hype but dark could even just mean the mood or plot. Flight went dark and gw invaded the space. Abyss you get eaten by a terrible giant mega krill. Those felt like especially dark seasons at times. So definitely could just mean the mood or story or even just area.

Also @carmine thorn for that particular guess that you mentioned we weren't talking about where the dark season would be. Just where we think the next season might be which we were thinking Isle or daylight or gw.

I still would bet the next season is more than likely vault over isle or GW. We just had a GW season and isle is a tutorial level. Prophecy made sense in isle due to its lore.

Is beta now limiting inputs?
For ages, I've been able to use my PS4 controller and Logitech Bluetooth keyboard at the same time in Sky on live and beta. However, last night in beta it was only accepting input from my controller. When I tried doing any key input, it would show that typing bar at the bottom of the screen, but wouldn't accept any input from the physical keyboard. It would only let me text if I pulled up the on-screen keyboard.

The chat ui has been updated a build ago. Report it as a bug if you use the TGC recommended way for switch. If it's not switch it's not limiting, just have never been supported anyway (regardless it worked)
