Depends on the game/program in question, but look up "integer overflow" on Wikipedia -- that's one possibility of what might happen

Sky is 64 bit... an integer overflow would need to be over 2^64-1 or 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 if the currency is saved as a 64 bit value (more than likely)

I get what you mean by bugs from beta making it to live
My POV was that none of the bugs we found in beta were game breaking (although the hearts one is close to being and I guess the deadline for submission ran out on that one)
However the switch bugs they got really are game breaking for some, which in the middle of a season causes all sorts of issues.
Edit: so tgc would be focussed on fixing that one.
Respect your position though. I was disappointed when beta bugs I reported made it to live the first time too, until the Devs explained

What I'm trying to say is of course I'm disappointed as a tester.. as you say. But also the lack of informing players. Live players atm are taking and reporting the heart trade issue as something that happened out of the blue. Switch crashes are at least mentioned on known issues.

Yes. There are like 5 or maybe more of my friends in beta that can send me hearts just fine. But when I try to send to them it gives me my candles back. My other friend can’t send to them either. I don’t send a lot of hearts there so I haven’t come across it yet there

That's exactly what happens for any of my friends when they try to send me hearts... even live in game, the animation just stops after I hit accept. So bizarre!! Thank you for the info, at least I'm not the only one and others reported it too. Hate to hear it got to live though 😔

I've reported the bug very long ago. It happened to me everytime a friend offer to trade hearts face to face, the person who first offer the heart can send it everyday. The person who accept and offer back will have this problem.
I have no issue when trading through constellation without meeting them

The wipe came before rhythm. Rhythm was too short for there to be many with the owl hair, but there are some players who got it legitimately. Still as before: no harm in reporting. If the player got the cosmetic legitimately, they won't face any issues due to a report.

Deer mask is unobtainable in beta since there was a progress wipe after that season. Unless they were gifted it from TGC directly, they got that mask via methods that breaks TOS.

Mmmm the only extra candle cake before Forest entrance that I remember was the bugged one that appeared in the end-of-the-rainbow location, where there wasn’t any rainbow visible at that time (the other end-of-the-rainbow candle cakes appeared as well back then, it was a bug)

No, there's roughly 130ish AC required to complete the base constellation wing buffs. About 9 weeks if you get at least 15 AC a week. TS I would consider more of "bonus wing buffs" until 12 wedges are available... since you can just barely get 11 wedges with base wing buffs and all realm WL.

sky isn’t really meant to be a fast-completion game either. even as it stands now wing buffs are the absolute easiest to max out on overall (compared to stuff like emote upgrades, seasonal stuff, etc.) if you’re not counting the TS buffs. imo I would honestly prefer more expensive wing buffs so AC wouldn’t feel so useless in less than 4 months of playing. yeah u can get resizes but in terms of game progression they become non-essential. not really a discussion that’s specific to beta in any way though

There’s no set time for new season testing to start. Whenever they’re ready for it to be tested they’ll send it out. New season teasers tend to show up after the final quest of the live season becomes available, so perhaps closer to then.

Why is it that the anti-heart-trade system was not announced in beta or live patch notes?

It seems very decent amount of the live playerbase can't gift heart even to old close friends just now around double heart event and they will miss the opportunity. The issue seems to depend on who was the friendship recipient; candle running and unlocking higher friendship emotes don't help unfortunately.

I'm fortunately not really affected having enough hearts in reserve but I would have loved to contribute and test it consciously on beta to ensure old friends can gift the other smoothy.

We're testing a whole revamp of the friend constellation. Currently, in beta, the constellation limit is 140 friends. Since this is a large overhaul, don't expect it to hit live any time soon. TGC wants the feature fully matured before sending it to live. Think of it like the Daily Light system where we beta tested it for about half a year before it went live. (Sorry for delay, long slow mode)

I really don't believe that the heart trading bug is a feature, it's too damaging to the experience. I'd like to think this is one of those 'chibi fall patch' situations and this just slipped through the cracks of beta and into live.

It's real, you can find here on discord and on Twitter several screenshots shared about Support responses that with patch 0.15.5 they made further steps to prevent heart gifting exploitations. Unfortunately we were not notified to be able to test it. I thought it's bug from the new constellation.

As per customer support reply to users it's a feature preventing heart exploitations but it was not announced unfortunately so we could not test at all and it came to live with serious bugs. It's still unclear what causes it but it may have to do something who was the friendship recipient.

Without heart trades, your heart income for the average player is a few lights from lighting friends, the heart from the travelling spirit, and the constellation hearts if you haven't spent them. It's just not very sustainable to only get like two or three hearts every two weeks if travelling spirit emotes cost about 13 hearts a piece, not counting seasonal cosmetics or constellation items (I'm looking at you, tier 2 black and white capes).

Currently the only way to get hearts with this system is to hang out with friends for a specific amount of time that people haven't figured out yet, and this uses requirements that might be buggy.

It just sounds rough. Whew!

May I ask one thing, if this intended change—to the way hearts are supposed to be gifted to friends—are now in Live, I'm wondering why it was not announced anywhere on 0.15.5 Patch Update Notes, any of the recent blog posts, SocMed account posts and/or communicated within the live channels of the server? Especially the announcement channels.

I think it will help shed a light about the confused players that what they're experiencing is an intended change and not a bug. I understand that you stating this already counts as sort of an official statement but not all players would bother browsing thru Beta channels, simply because they don't want to see any spoilers. And yes, players can reach out to Support, but those takes time before they even get a response.

On top of this I want to say that updates like this shouldn't be left to the players to figure it out on their own. I really don't understand why it wasn't mentioned anywhere. If ktjn can come here and say that it's not a bug and intended, why can't the same be announced in #news at the very least? You guys had plenty of times to announce it. Actually, it seems like it was in beta. Some users had issues with sending hearts when we tested this patch. We just were not told that there was a change

We simply thought it's a bug because of the new constellation, we reported it as a bug that regardless we had old friends some of them or us were not able to send a heart. Because we didn't know of the system we simply reported the bugs without specific detailsor attention related to it so it easier came to live with critical bugs in this system.

I cant login at my beta acc without a warning asking me if I want to “create a new account in sky? …”, so if I cancel the process, i keep at the same message and cant go any further, plus, when I go to TestFlight to check if it has a new update and open sky beta from there… i came back at the same message, if click “create new account”, i will, propably, delete all my progress on beta… someone else or only me?

It isn't a new "system" just a preset requirement needs to be met before heart gifting opens with friends. What those requirements are we don't know. There are theories, but they could have coded it where changes could be done server side to change requirements on a whim. We don't know what, why or how at all. We just know some parameters are pretty.... Odd... I couldn't gift hearts to my long time friend in live until I just met them in the same server for less than a minute. (Due to RL stuff this friend and I haven't met in game for over 10 months, but before that, we played together almost daily) Newly QR added friends seem to be affected most, though.

People who wants to exploit/fool the system will find a way to exploit anyways, if it’s not through 50 dummy accounts I’m sure they’ll find another way pretty fast. TGC making this kind of changes (needing to interact with friends to a certain extent before sending hearts) without proper communication or disclosing any clear criteria only punishes those honest players who play the game without breaking ToS, and who really truly struggle with IGC, for example friends that are in different time zones and can’t play often together but still care for each other and want to send heart gifts to show kindness. Not to mention the inconsistency of the heart gifting behavior and bugs that come with it without prior open testing with beta players, that cause so many players to be confused right now. You go into any other channels you see players asking why heart gifting is bugged

this is my own speculation, but if I were developing features that enhance security for an app and i knew it would have negative impact on a small percentage of legit users, but would combat a large amount of exploitation that lowers the value of the entire economy of the app, I would carefully weigh those costs and still knowingly not communicate details. Communicating details of how to combat exploitation means telling people doing the exploits how to cheat the changes.

I also have real-world experience doing this exact thing for a client. Some real users were affected negatively by silent changes, and they complained, but a large security hole that was costing the client hundreds of thousands of dollars was closed

They didn't need to go into detail. A simple section in the live patch notes with vague explanation of the feature would have been the minimum they should have done. We literally got nothing. Even something as simple as "to combat heart gift exploitation, there are new magical requirements to meet before you can gift hearts to your friends. Play a bit with them ❤️ " instead bug reports and support tickets that cost labor hours happened.

IMO, they really need not to explain it in details, a simple "Changes to criteria on gifting heart/s to friend/s" statement I think would suffice and if I had an opinion about it, I would go to feedback channels.

Sometimes companies also need to weigh the risk of making an announcement (openly discussing security flaws, with all the PR and legal implications) versus the risk of letting the information spread through their user-base in an organic way that may not be as comfortable for players, but may ultimately be safer

Thank you for the insight Alex it’s really nice to have a perspective different from a player’s POV Maybe I’m very narrow minded but I think on the other hand, while it might be less risky to not make any official statement on certain changes, the PR risks also lies in players slowly losing trust when the game company chooses not to be transparent about something (especially major changes), which also could lead to possible back lash or players eventually leaving the game for good.

This addition doesn't really pertain to opsec, though. This is similar to the Eden changes (slow movement) or the AFK system that was apparently never announced to live and was given a small entry in live patch notes about it being bugged and fixed. The lack of transparency in basic gameplay feature changes constantly from a game company makes them lose trust with the community. I guess they didn't weigh those options.

I've included some feedback already but there at least should be a pop up when a gift fails to go through, otherwise players are confused as to why gifting isn't working with 0 ingame explanation. Without simple UX, nevermind patch notes inclusion, it just feels like a bug.

As for my thoughts, it feels very dystopian to let coding or a game company decide what makes me a good enough friend to send hearts. Let me decide that on my own

I don't always feel that it's done right, but the basic point I'm trying to make is that each decision about what to communicate and in how much detail may have other factors behind them that we don't see. It's really hard to swallow that this has been a thing for a good amount of time in beta and now in live, and after so many people have submitted bug reports and feedback in both beta and live and have spent so much time trying to figure out what this new system is, the only statement we've gotten so far is, "not a bug and is working as intended"

As others have said a simple announcement would've been good since hearts a valuable currency in sky and used in many places so the change affects a large amount of players (i'm sure tgc already knows that) that's why it's causing stress among players. I could've understood that they don't want to share too much details if they shared a vague statement (which they have done in past) but shareing no information about it doesn't makes sense to me. They could've shared a little info for a price of little "damage".
Maybe it really was for the greater good but for now it just seems ignorant.

Personally I think any communication is better than no communication. No communication has often, as we can see right now, also resulted in negative feedback from the community. We don't have any facts right now, so we can only speculate, bug report, and keep waiting for answers that may never come. Extend that to players who don't have access to Discord, don't have access to social media (not that it's always posted on there anyway), etc., and it results in a lot of confused players.

My problem is that many beta players spent their time to bugreport hearts issue. Now this came out it was a feature all the way and because of a single notice missing it came with obviously big bugs to live in the midst of double heart event. I guess they wanted it to be released to live before the event and it's hard to catch deadlines but it came out in a very unfortunate way.

While a live discussion, the heart event still works. In fact, not counting just hearts, its worked better than we hoped. Candle cakes are double, seasonal candles are double, as well as the normal heart fragments and hearts too

There was no announcement made about the double seasonal candles whether it's a schedule error, compensation or part of the event so it's better not to connect it to the event. It's better to keep that to live discussion (including questions regarding heart gifting) to keep the channel on topic.

What belongs to beta is that we were bugreporting about a not announced feature as constellation bug and because of absence of any communication about this feature the reports were not directed to it, it came to live without notice in a severely bugged state just when an event playability and enjoyability was heavily depending on its way of working.

I’d definitely think twice when I bug report next time and wonder if it’s still worth my time or effort, since now things we think might be bugs and could spend hours to test out or find a way to reproduce (cuz we simply enjoy troubleshooting and bug hunting) could just turn out to be a “feature”. I’m totally fine with bug reporting or doing other testing voluntarily cuz I enjoy it so much and have met so many wonderful friends through this. But not knowing what we are actually testing and being kept in the dark for major changes kills my motivation.

Still. Our candles and hearts are just going to the void now. People are just wasting candles on nothing. The game doesn't have to say what the requirements are, but just have a little pop up even when you try to trade would help. And it says something like "you can't trade hearts yet".

Players here are giving themselves a headache with testing (something that should've been done weeks before the event in beta) and figuring out what's a bug and what's not, because they refused to communicate with us😕 And there is still 0 communication about it. Ktjn posted 1 or 2 confirmations that's it's a feature, in a beta channel that a few people visit. In server that only has 300k users when apparently Sky has over 100 million downloads, which they themselves celebrated. And the message was shortly burried and they left it to the helpers/users here to give themselves more headache in redirecting people to the message and explaining it to them, when that's the devs job. And doing further testing because the devs haven't explained how the feature works. It's really disappointing to see. I'll see myself out incase someone says it's not a debate talk channel and I need to go to #live-feedback , but big yikes😭

If it seems like a bug, it's best to go ahead and report it. Even if it seems like it's not super major, they should want to know about it so that it can be fixed eventually. It may not be high priority, but at least if they're made aware of it they can monitor it on their end as well

That's a beta problem also. We've had surprise changes not relayed to us countless times slowly severing the trust we had in TGC. It is as much a beta issue as it is live. More so for beta since plenty of us filled out bug reports in vain due to it being a change left undocumented. How did that pertain to live again? I'm sorry but as Uzephi just stated, so much feedback and bug reports were done in beta, yet the feature, that looked like a bug first in beta, made it into live. Nothing was mentioned in the live nor beta, or ever addressed. Then afterwards players on their own had to give themselves a headache in figuring out through support that it was an intended feature, yet again leaving players to figure out how this works, what doesn't, what does, it's a whole headache, especially during an event that needs the heart system, but it doesn't work and no one wants to officially address it, properly. It's the developers job to announce all the new features and explain them, rather than sneakily implement it without explaining anything. I understand that this is no longer a beta issue because it's more so an issue in live, but this was a beta issue in the beginning, as well as the developers, that caused this
