Yes but those who missed out, still miss out this year, because the design isn’t the same; they didn’t commit to it fully
what do you mean...'didn't commit to it fully'......if it's published as it is then it's already committed innit
also historically speaking TGC usually doesn't do [limited to this year only] outside of the hats for their own IP, so having the cape return in a simpler design is a pretty good way to make sure future players can access the space while keeping the og design unique.
It's not like they haven't done this before e.g. moments camera - functions exactly the same, just slight differences in appearance (though it is understandable why people are upset with the new ver cuz to the average player it's just a copy paste)

There is an argument to be made like "why don't they just use the same design as the 5th anni but take out the constellation on it" as well but /puts on art design nerd glasses/ it's about having a recognisable silhouette. I would imagine they haven't taken away the unique recharge animation of polygons on the cape either which is pretty sick - only the scarf is out which gives the 5th anni cape a distinct look.
While it sucks you missed out on scarf ver, the point stands that sky does historically have limited items and they be what it be.

like how to say, because it's an IAP equivalent of another IAP rather than the usual igc equivalent of an ult (which is an IAP in its own way) it makes sense for the design to just be mega similar with a part removed to give the uniqueness to the original

Mhhh I see and understand this point of view, it’s just that from an artistic standpoint it’s frustrating seeing an item being designed to have a feature and then seeing it taken off and repurposed as a simpler design, instead of say, swapping out accessories? It would keep a unique design and not look like they just repurposed the old design without what made it unique

About “committing fully” I meant to the original design: want to repurpose the wireframe cape? Great! But either commit to a full redesign or commit to keeping the style and changing accessories but don’t remove anything because to those who experienced the original it’ll feel lackluster

Also technically speaking, AURORA cape is more complicated design wise compared to the TLP cape, due to transparency and non-traditional cape shape and form but both cost the same due to the similar feature + collab contract specifications.

It's not about TGC lacking creative, it's about balancing the uniqueness and preserving the same function whilst making the cape available for everyone beyond anniversary

It could be because of your financial situation, technical limitation, ... or simply because you played the game at a different point in time.

TGC decides to bring back the cape without the scarf. Is it a bummer that they removed the scarf? Yes. Would you have liked it with the scarf better? Yes. But are they doing that? No. And so is the original wireframe cape out of reach forever? Yes.

Better to be at peace with the reality and enjoy what we CAN get right now because we are playing the game at this current point in time. I mean, look at all the things we DO have rn. Radiance, days of Color games, days of Nature free pants. All those things didnt exist for a player in 2024.

Why are they experimenting with the spirit tree and allat.

The friendship menu maybe is a neat look for mobiles, on console it only causes lagging and visual glitches when lighting friends..

And from what I've seen, the spirit friendship trees look simply silly, as if Sky is evolving backwards in terms of game interface. Yes, I've seen videos explaining their mechanics, but my point still stands. They should change the name to "Spirit Friendship Keyboard" because the last thing it could resemble is a tree.

Also I have a question because I haven't seen it mention anywhere yet, some time back they mentioned aiming into expanding the online friendship tree sideways instead of making it higher. Is there anything about it out for discussion yet?

last year on the big megapoll they sent out for players, announced during the skyfest presentation, one of the things they listed was that they were gonna work on were spirit relationship development with players and the spirit tree adjustment is likely as a result of that

also it is sideways? the trees in question last was viewable by beta players, it looks much more condensed than it used to be where the og spirit trees are very stretched out and takes forever to scroll up on mobile phont screens, so I would imagine when friendship trees get reworked it will become similar where each row will have 3-4 nodes

Actual answer: Because the team has lot of changes (pretty cool ones, if I do say so myself) planned for how players build relationships with spirits and with each other—but the current way that relationships work isn't big or flexible enough for what we have in mind. So we're revamping the system.

Keep in mind, too, that beta is where we experimenting, so the UI, layouts, etc. that you see from the 0.29.5 beta can and will change between now and when it eventually goes live. (We also often adjust things based on live player feedback after release.)

same, im actually hoping part of spirit friendships allow us to do some friend interactions with them, besides the ones they have (if any), id love to just do some of the friend emotes with my favorite guides and hold hands with or carry stewie around aviary village. i say some since i have a feeling certain ones (chat, warp, iap/heart gifts (outside of the ones they give to you in their quest trees), etc) wouldnt be there for reasons.

I think this will be an interesting change, I do kind of miss the visual style of the old spirit trees but this could be a nice way to get to know the spirits and save candles for items we want…feeling the most excited for friend trees to have something like this too! Hi. Just wanted to say I miss both season testing and season event channels. Light Awaits Moth here, what really kept me playing was the sneak peek of upcoming content, new events, new seasons, new mechanics and new maps always hyped me so much. The thing that bothered me the most was the UI they showed in this beta, I know, it's still in beta testing, but I really hope they change this UI and make
it something more like a constellation like the spirit tree we currently have, in my opinion, the UI looks generic and without Sky's identity.

The whole constellation vibe of the current ui is very satisfying, as fun as being able to unlock what you want when you want does seem. Same with the cool clouds obscuring your progress too

It's just the lines / branches currently convey the "you must unlock this to be able to access this" to me. The readability is very important when it comes to ui, even if you might sacrifice the og tree identity.

The feature used to exist in beta before they moved it to a closed beta (no clue if it still exists). Wasn't even limited to iOS at the end, TGC made it available for Android too. So it's clearly to some extent a feature, though I'm not sure how much of that is true for live - could be a bug over there.

From what I saw they are using a proper livestream setup without any videos present on the game client itself, it uses a "live.radiance" URL

And from a more technical standpoint, if they did it correctly they check for the correct certificate before actually displaying anything in-game, so my Bad Apple attempts may be gone already there lol

Sky’s open beta program was closed in March and everyone in beta lost access and their progress
A new closed beta program began, which involves players applying for beta by filling out a questionnaire
A number of the players who applied were then invited by TGC to test and participate in that program under a NDA (non-disclosure agreement)
The beta channels here were archived and then reopened for people to discuss what had been released in an earlier build of beta (as opposed to info from the current beta build being tested)
TGC has said they would keep applicant questionnaire info for six months
We imagine they‘ll issue a new questionnaire at some point, so there should be more opportunities to apply to be a beta tester in future, but there’s no guarantee a player will be invited just by showing interest in testing

Currently the new closed beta only supports iOS players, in order to increase the program’s security, but they hope to open to other platforms in the future, when those concerns can be properly addressed

If a player applies to test and is invited, they will not be starting with their former progress and can expect regular progress wipes as well as losing access at some point so that others can test

That answers more questions than you asked, but maybe it’ll help someone else who stumbles in here confused 😅

I've never been a beta tester for Sky excluding Light Awaits but the person above is right, we will basically know nothing about the next season so we can't even plan our budget. tbh season passes cost the same as always, unlike the IAPs so i feel it's not too difficult to plan to get the pass ^^ imo if tgc decide to keep the 2E content under NDA while revealing the events only stuff

I recommend you set aside the cost of the season pass as the new season approaches so you'll be ready to decide on whether you want to buy the pass once the season comes to live.

As a side note, NDAs are common when game testing is involved, so Sky's first approach definitely stood out since they were extremely transparent with testing.
But ofc, that also lead to misplaced excitement- Beta is always subject to change so people would be often leave upset when something did end up changing.

It’s also kind of hard to justify this move in Sky’s case because it’s not like they’re fixing bugs that have plagued Sky for ages or introducing new, game changing mechanics on player end. For instance, they’re not adding new realms to the base game, and most of the changes are to complement their new IAP releases and such.
The relevance of sky betas to players was largely to help people decide if they are going to spend money on the next cosmetic release. This is vastly different from classic titles that have betas with NDAs. At the end of the day, Sky is a live service game, which has long strayed from its OG story line. TGC making the beta so convoluted really seems like a result of trying to protect the 2 embers IP from leaks, and limiting and streamlining how people interact with beta, which makes some sense since they’re a company who has to profit after all. Either way, I’m happy having some buffer time b/w new releases so I can decide if I want to skip them or invest, even if it’s not as long as it used to be.

I think NDA isn't just about protecting the 2E leaks, I feel it's to prevent situations where players leak content even before stuff are put in public beta, like before Closed Beta is a thing, those kinds of leaks were commonplace which led to misunderstanding, misinformation and all the negative stuffs that occurred in the sky community resulting from the leaks.

NDAs being the norm in game beta testings are for these exact reasons being the factor

Also I'll say again, beta is never meant as something preview and plan on what you want to spend, mainly due to how unpredictable the final product would be. That's why at some point during the open Beta, the iap prices were never shown in beta, and then finally all stuffs were accessible via one tap thing in a menu. This is to ensure testers test things as they should be rather than just seeing what it "looks like" for live.

That's exactly why Closed Beta was needed

No plans to add voice chat, and personally I think it's pretty unlikely, precisely for the safety reason that others have mentioned. It would mean a lot of work tech-wise too, but safety is definitely the bigger of the two issues it would present.

For now, if folks want a way to use chat without relying entirely on a keyboard, voice dictation could be an option depending on the platform you're using!

Although these features have already been tested, some issues with the 6th anniversary event have appeared on the NetEase server. For example, in the Sky Tower mini-game, it can become difficult to see the path due to large crowds, making the game hard to play. In the Pool Party area, the interaction buttons for surfboards and floaties sometimes disappear.

Hallucination will never fully be fixed, but it is probably something that will get better as these models in general get better. I’d say the same thing with nuance as well.
I just wouldn’t completely knock out the idea, that’s all.

You can build a RAG model on top of a generative model. The RAG model would be for sky’s specific lingo. In other words, it is possible to build a model that understands the context of sky’s own language. This model would belong to TGC.
The issue with fear of proprietary information being stolen can also be fixed by purchasing business licenses for the generation model. Just saying.

No one is turning a blind eye to the things that have gotten better. I think it’s a bit premature to assume that.
The event system as a whole was a great edition to an other mundane 70 days of season with nothing else to do. The fact that season tickets exist means less burden for grabbing new event items.
The fact they added chevrons to make candle running easier is also great.
But at the same time, they’ve increased the cost of items, while keeping the daily limit the same. Everything costs candles and it is expensive and grindy when you’re trying to catch up.
Buying event items when they return is super expensive and punishing. Missing a traveling spirit means waiting 3 years for that spirit to return.
It feels almost counterintuitive to me when you make candle running easier, but also make it that much harder to get cosmetics or increase friendship levels.
The fact I have to think about whether I should save 3 candles or gift a heart to a friend, is in and of itself painful.

I think the reason why it’s so frustrating is because of all of these decisions that it feels like the company is making. IAP purchases are expensive, traveling spirits are more expensive than before. Look, everyone gets that “you don’t have to buy them to enjoy the game”.
But it’s the combination of these issues along with bugs that seem to never be fixed properly, server errors and having to hear other players pull the “it’s a small game company, they’re trying their best”. Small issues become magnified because they pile on existing frustrations about the game.

I don’t know what I would do without the amazing Ubers in looking-for-live-group. Not even, kidding, community is the BEST part of sky.

Don't worry about not being a beta member, most people here aren't I think, the beta stuff moved to elsewhere.
Note that there isn't a difference between creator troupe or not, when it comes to beta previews, #beta-announcements has info on what can be shared when.

I was in the beta program but due to finals I missed out on the whole NDA thing and when opening the game it says "game data is corrupt please reinstall", does that mean I'll have to wait for a new wave of applications or is there a way to re enter if I was already a part of the beta program before?
