how does transistor plays? i only played hades and pyre and i know that was their second game. It looks like the gameplay is kinda like hades but slower? I don't really know if this game is for me, any help?

@chrome swallow i wouldn't say the combat is like hades'. you have a thing called turn() where you freeze the battlefield in order to enact a limited number of attacks. you can also fight outside of turn() but turn() is the most powerful way to fight. it's a lot slower than hades

Transistor and Hades have a lot in common in terms of combat (some enemies even have similar mechanics).
But Transistor is a but slower and besd more around positioning and use of different strategies to pass a certain challenge

Plus, yeah. Stop-time shenanigans are super fun xD

The only thing I never liked about transistor was the ending, because ||it was really really sad and I wished the best for Red, she deserved better imo :(((( ||, but aside from that, which is a personall opinion, it is totally worth it.

it's basically turnbased hades/bastion, the game is a lot slower compared to something like hades but it's pretty similar to bastion in speed if speed is really an issue

I think posters are just generally very expensive to transport, since they're fairly big even when rolled up and you definitely don't want them to get knittered or damaged in transit

Yeah that makes some sense. I thought it's more about the weight. And the cardboard roll is fairly light weight and not too thick in diameter.
I just really hesitant about pulling the trigger on this special order, especially when I don't know if a Sale is coming in a matter of days/weeks from now. But at the same time I don't want to delay too much (takes a lot of time for shipping to arrive, then send to framing, get it back and drill the holes etc).

I've been renovating, upgrading, redesigning and remodeling my Gaming Kingdom Room & Setup for the past Month or so! Haven't played a single game since started. I'm very excited and looking forward to finally finish everything and reveal it.
I already have a gorgeously framed Pyre Poster. And the 2 new Hades Posters (once I frame them by the same craftsman) will look beautiful and be the Ultimate Icing on the Cake!!

I'm doing research on Classical (Ancient Greek and Roman) Reception in modern entertainment, with Hades as a primary focus. Right now I'm researching the idea of academic authority in a given subject. I just finished reading about the team at Supergiant and noted that it doesn't explicitly state that anyone on the team is a trained Classicist (has studied the ancient world from an academic standpoint). This supports my standpoint, that developers and writers of media deeply influenced by the ancient world do not necessarily need academic training in order for their work to have authority, provided the content was sufficiently researched--that a self-taught authority is still an authority, just one whose authority hasn't been certified or corroborated by others trained in the field.

So my question is more of a confirmation: Does anyone on the Supergiant team have academic training in the field of Classics? Was Hades developed with the help of a consultant who does, or was the research done exclusively by the Supergiant team?

That's why I'd love to see another game, different mechanics maybe, but same setting and world, further abd deeper explore the world abd lore of Pyre, the Downside, the epic adventures and deeds of the 8 Scribes and experience its history- first hand.
It would be so special.
Just reading about them in the book chapters: it was so well written, thrilling and relatable. It made me care, like and relate with these LORE Backstory characters more than many other main characters/NPCs in modern games... It was more memorable as well.

It's also interesting to see and learn how different peoples and races came to be in the past, and how they lived on in the future, following the events of Pyre and the Rites.

Looking at the previous releases, I think it's quite likely the new one could be out in late 2024 - there were around 3 years between releases so far, but considering Hades being the biggest release and some post launch support for it (that looks like is still ongoing for consoles), the late 2024 seems the most likely.

I share your plight. Standard slow shipping costs 30$ and the priority around 55$+ to my country.

Some says that the biggest mistake is the fact that there are 2 vocal songs that are so rare, one is played only in just one room, and one only once when you finish main part of the plot.

I'm musically ignorant and so hearing the technical things of music explained in such a simple manner, as well as getting the interpretation of what the sections of the songs mean and all that was so enjoyable. Like I wouldn't have realized the bit about how "In the blood" is a combination of Hades and Zag's struggles against each other and how Persephone stepped in to unify them.

Nobody knows for sure, but from how they've handled their other games: It's very unlikely that Hades gets any more content (no DLC etc.) and they usually also don't announce new games very early - for reference, their release cycle so far is at about 3 years, but their good experiences with Early Access for Hades might shift things around a bit

So yeah, just hang around for a bit here - they're working on something \:)/

assuming they keep up the 3 year cycle i dont think the next game will be something that benefits from early access or we'd be hearing about it by now. pyre released july 2017, hades early access started dec 2018 and full release was sept 2020. though the previous titles didnt go through continued bug fixes for months after release either, so ultimately its hard to know what supergiant is up to until they have something to announce, whenever that will be.

i'd recommend doing it chronologically, as you get to see how the studio has developed and grown over the course of their games. i also recommend it as i've heard some people have trouble getting into other games because they're a little rougher around the edges than hades

Yeah, SG is for certain my favorite dev team so far even if overall the games might not be the ones I enjoyed the most, they're still all special by themselves
The most important part though is it's just so immensely inspiring, like, look at through what they had to go to achieve Hades level of greatness, being recognized for just one project in so many places, and yet I believe there's still even more they could accomplish if they decide to go on making more games, or perhaps even something else, who knows, really. Yeah. So the timeline is I ordered Nov 1, package “shipped” November 18 but never got past ‘label created’ in the tracking. Mid December I emailed them, I was told it was lost in the mail and that they’d ship it out on December 20th with 2 day priority mail. I have a service from usps so I can see what packages are coming to me and nothing has been mailed, and I’ve sent a follow up email and haven’t heard back.

I know it’s very busy because of the holidays and COVID surging. I’m not like upset with them or anything. I’d just like an update... It was going to be an Xmas gift for my gf, then a gift for her birthday, and now that’s about to pass too 🤣

Transistor is great for the biology vs. technology theme! I love how that's represented in the techniques all being syntactically like subroutine names. Pyre freaking killed me with its thesis on how culture proliferates, though. I really love all of them; each is a flawless marvel.

So I love that the primary constraint in Pyre is language/communication. And then there's that one scene where the entlike one communicates in spoken English, breaking the fourth wall. My wife was right beside me, and she didn't even notice. I wasn't on the Switch, so I couldn't catch a replay or anything.

He says "It’s all related to the engine and memory usage". So it seems that Pyre uses a lot of memory, while Bastion and Transistor not so much. I'm guessing it's mostly related to graphical assets, but probably also to the fact that Pyre was bigger than the other two games. Also, after Pyre they started working on Hades almost immediately, so there was no time to port it, really.

the vast majority of monetization is literally just there to make money, not provide any meaningful experience to the player. this is why i'm still annoyed about the user votes from tga 2020 and how everyone voted a freemium gacha into the like top 3 for game of the year and iirc hades didnt even break top ten in the votes lmao there were a couple other good games that didnt have shoddy monetization that didnt make the votes either, and granted at the end of the day its all meaningless but idk. for me its sad that games that are a genuinely good experience and dont rely on skeevy monetization schemes are hard to get noticed. hades got really lucky that it spread so quickly through word of mouth and garnered such a big following. just think we as consumers should have more self respect for ourselves than to continually be pulled in by monetized garbage though

monetization is not bad in my opinion, as long as it is purely cosmetic
I 100% support a game company being able to make money from their game, especially if the game is free (battle Royales are a paragon of this, fortnite, fall guys, etc.)
My problem along with many others comes with the idea that certain things are locked behind paywalls. I don't especially mind when you can pay for an xp boost or something like that to shorten the time it might take to do something from 1 day of gameplay (I stress gameplay because when your game loop is just click on building and wait 5 hours to get something or pay 0.99$ USD to do it auto, i don't consider that gameplay, thats a wallet drainer) to half a day, or even a quarter of the day. I do find problems when it becomes 1 week or month to 1 day after purchase. The main thing I have a problem with is locking content behind a paywall. And by paywall I don't mean pay 1$ for this, I mean any sort of reward system system where you can earn lets say 1 reward a day, or you can pay 5$ to get that reward right now. It is possible to get these items, but it would take much much more time, especially if this is linked to a lootbox system where your always so near, yet can never reach what you want (which even on just cosmetic item shops lootboxes are still a bad thing, buts thats another thing). This play for a long time or pay for instant reward (Soft-paywall) is worse then just "you cant get this unless you pay"(hard paywall) is worse imo purely because if I see a game with a hard paywall I'm immediately not interested and not even that mad because i cant get it, oh well. But with a soft paywall it seems like you can get it and it incentivizes others (I try not to get sucked into those and have succeeded so far) to pay for rewards. its just scummy

Would I like Transistor if I enjoyed Hades? Hades is the first Supergiant Games game I've played and it's one of the best games I've played in a while

I‘d say they‘re so different that they‘re not really comparable which is also true for the other SGG games. But they‘re all still top-tier games, just not really similar

I mean three of their for games feature top-down combat with different abilities and stuff but that‘s where they diverge haha

If you want something more similar to hades, I would start with bastion and work through the rest in order

I would say yes - great art, great music, great story - but expect a much shorter ||and sadder and bleaker ||story and also expect not as numerous characters as Hades. The best way I can describe it's gameplay Think of the Gameplay like Hades, but if Hades gave you the opportunity to pause and then perform a string of attacks/abilities/movements as well as just play the game as a real-time combat game.

Transistor was my first Supergiant game and I think it really deserves more praise. (but that's just my opinion)
