This is used in identifying photoshopped photos by looking for things that don't make sense when compressed(but the joke here is that the JWST photo just has ">Universe Simulator Loaded >Press any key to continue" in the background, I did the photoshopping).

AFAIK this is pretty archaic, though, from an actual forensics angle because good photoshop platforms do fun things with algorithms and machine learning to make things look a bit more natural

Since CGI is not a photomanipulation of the direct file, and is re-encoded afterwards(and in the case of the sample image I just tried, has been reuploaded a few dozen times and re-compressed using different encodings) its usually not that easy to spot using these tools but you'll notice that the dragon here has a different "texture" of error even in its shadows which could hint at it being a photomanipulation but I wouldn't pass it in court

The subtle tell for the actual photo IMO is that her hand doesn't look quite right for there being something there, IMO, but the ELA doesn't show that at all
