yup, every 46 mins has a 20% chanche of a raid happening, the type of raid will be random and picked from your possible raids (some raids are activated or deactivated by boss kills, others independent from boss progression)

killing the elder unlocks a lot of non-boss raids that will stay there forever regardless of further boss kills

there's a detailed wiki page about that, but of course lots of spoilers

also Elder kill will unlock a lot of mob-related raids, those happen if you ever killed a particular mob in that world, or even if that mob died in that world regardless if it was you to kill it, those raids won't deactivate ever

yup, you first cast then sit on steering wheel, keep the line close to you (right mouse button still work) and steer around paddling in desired area

the fish will automatically hook, just you have to practice keeping slow (slower than paddling) by playing with paddling fwd, back and off

puffer is easy, if you go in the ocean with misty bait, tuna and coralcod won't eat and you'll "filter" just puffer, troll same along bf coasts, but they're close so also fishing from beach is viable

If you found a vegvesir - you can get a direction. Yes underground in a dungeon - but then you can kinda "save" the direction by equipping a hammer and pointing the direction with a build piece of your choice (the build piece and the orientation should remain when you leave the dungeon)

Valhiem is more CPU intensive than graphics intensive; the fact you lag when new places are discovered tells me your CPU is choking perhaps; you are not running any other processes are you in the background?

I see what you mean; yeah that cpu is fine, shouldn't need to overclock it.

You could try and cap your fps to 60; but I would also pull up task manager and see if your CPU is getting close to full usage or if it's only partially getting used when you experience the spikes

Also, similar to a lot of paradox games which are cpu intensive, the more you "reveal" in Valhiem, the harder your CPU is going to run; as it 'places' assets while you explore and move into unrevealed areas

I think it’s important to note that there is a difference between realism and expectations 🤔 spears are expected to have longer range because they’re intended to be long-ranged weapons. What's ideal is tricky, many people will have differing opinions, personally I treat my Meadows as my main, and build up many secondary bases where needed.

some like a spot where they are at multiple biome borders for a mix of mobs fighting each other and variety of loot

there's different strategies, you could move everything as you go to the next biome (takes time but saves on resources), you could make a new base in each biome (this gives you a chance to make each one different since you will have access to new resources every time. some make a "main" base which is what i did this time around. I had a basic base until I reached the swamp, now i'm making my "main" base in a tiny meadow surrounded on 3 sides by plains, one side a super iron rich swamp. the idea is the base will be useful for future biomes

farming will necessitate using a meadow or black forest until you get to the plains at which point you could move the farm or just use two

Black metal delivered to your door for the big chests.

If you can find a spot that has other biomes closeby you'll have free loot around the base because of the factions warring with each other.
I prefer to find a spot that has mistlands close by since then you will have some great fishing options, for anglerfish or the pufferfish.

Though I also make a chill base in the meadows where I do the tree farm, boar, wolf and chicken farm, have back up stuff and is also used to show of the gear, riches and such.

If I where you I would make a small base somewhere along the coast in the meadows you started in.
Normally there will be some black forest nearby as well.
Keep on playing and using that base till you can defeat the first boss.

You can then make a karve if you have the rest of the mats and then the game really opens up with sailing and finding other lands.||
