#building-tips

i planned on doing like left side of the build being the crafting area and the right side being the kitchen and the 2nd story dedicated to chests
and then seperate buildings for comfort and sleeping and seperate for smelting
i made this to referance off of so i hope this helps
if you have any more questions i will answer them to the best of my abilty
Thoughts on my gate/bridge?
kinda think I need to build out a little from the wall so it doesn't just look like a hole in the wall
and I cant decide whether I like the flower garland or fey lights better
the 'drawbridge'
that looks great
i think the flower garland looks better
it matches the vibe
cool I'll go with that, thanks bro
yeah no prob
i think something that could also help with the draw bridge is adding stone arches to the castle wall side under the draw bridge or something like that. because right now it looks like it is floating a bit.
rip this whole damn thing, I forgot about the wood and corewood decaying
apparently darkwood doesn't but it looks kinda fruity
They wont if theyre touching stone
@manic dustthat look's nice
only thing i wod change is the iron wals with the cooper ones for nicer look
copper walls?
oh your not in the mistland's sry for the spoil
all good lol, i know what copper is already so idrk what ur talking about dw
i just recently got to the plains recently ngl
why are sometimes things i build slightly off-centered despite not 'rotating' them at all? It's pretty annoying when making fences; the slight inclination keeps making gaps in-between.
Not to mention it is annoying for crafting stations when placed indoors to always be a couple degrees off.
something like this then?
I believe so
not sure if I like it but I'm out of ideas
I am an awful builder but maybe u could widen it by 1m on each side to hide the beams
with the 2x1s i was thinking
I feel that. My aspirations definitely outstrip my creative ability
that's a lot better, thanks
nice!
First try at building a proper house after living in a hut for ages. Unsure where to put a chimney for a fireplace.
also i sort of built over the water a little. so placing a firepit is kinda... rough. Lol
any thoughts/opinions appreciated, though be gentle because im new haha
Cool stuff. Can we get a pic of the inside? Braziers work for heat so you dont necessarily need a campfire, hearth, or bonfire i believe. You just wont get the 2 comfort for the hearth. But you could mess with wood iron beams, stone, and a hearth on the second floor
does anyone have tips for base logistics/large scale item transfer inside a base area, especially vertical item transport where carts just arent cutting it.
Maybe portals? but some items like ore, you cant travel with
Anyone got tips for a kitchen? It’s gonna be a separate build with a dedicated farm
I’m having trouble with the heart and venting smoke
can you take a screenshot on what youre working with?
You can place hearth and other fire related things on the iron cage floor. I hope that helps. I use that to build my hearth in my treehouses
Hey everyone 😎 I am building sleeping place for two. Is this too much of space to get max comfort?
I did 10x10
10m x 10m is exactly right as long as you keep everything within that range.
Perfect!!! Thank you so much 🥳 Does 10x10 Apply as well for workbench level and other things which needs to be stacked?
so for workbench upgrades, you need to see the little golden sparkles point at the bench to be effective and each has to be in it's own line, no overlaps.
Comfort works within a 10m range.
Oh wow. Do you have any picture how it is the best-correct way?
I have checked youtube. Nothing special. Thanks for the help 🫡 🤩
can someone tell me best method to place stone floor on second level of stone building without tons of suport colums on the first floor
does anyone know what i can do for my roofing? #building-screenshots
I have the exact same setup every time, but this time I can't get it to work. This random wall piece fixes it being exposed somehow... Anyone got ideas?
Move the bench 1m to the left, perhaps one of its rays are escaping out the top left, diagonally
I have been moving it everywhere. The exact same setup works on the other side of the house.. Just this specific area won't allow it
Interesting. No idea, then. I'm usually able to cover a bench with just a 2m pole and a single lower-angled roof.
Similar thing has happened before.. something specific about the area. I feel like maybe something about changing the ground with a hoe. Not consistent enough to tell though
Very annoying
Hey guys 🙂 One question, I am playing Vanila. Is workbench level 5 and forge level 6 maximum?
there is forge lvl 7
for stuff like that you could also check the wiki btw
is there a way to build fences like these at this furling village? I want to turn it into a proper warcraft orc style pigfarm to raise boars outside of my castle. But it looks pretty jank when I start mixing in other kinds of walls that I can build
Not player buildable, closest thing would be round pole fence or stakes
First attempt at a more permanent base. Any tips or thoughts to get me details in?
Hi, i finally unlocked stone, iron beams and blackwood. Which of these would be best to build a bigger base? I want to face as little difficulties as possible when it comes to how tall the base is.
P.s: the pic in the reply message is my old base and I'd like to make something bigger and well- with some depth / shapes to look nicer.
Looks rlly nice, i personally just raise the ground while face the cardinal dirrections for the walls though. So i dont have to repair them after raids or whatever.
precisely why I turn raids off
dose anyone feel like explaining to a new player how to make roofs good or go on meadows glade chat and guide me if so please it would be most apricated
if not then youtube video recommendations that explain it please
there are tons of videos out there; just search valheim roof should be good enough. a few tips from my experience would be ensure you do an overhang, even if only 1m over gable ends or 2m full overhang for hip-style roofs (angled on all sides).
how do i pull off a overhang because when i tried it wont let me unless im doing it wrong
it keep on phaseing though the wall
easiest way is to add an extra floor piece off the edge of your wall, then add the roof on top of that.
for gable ends, add a 1m wood beam off the end of your roof edge and snap to that corner.
Ah yes, I recognize the 'barn' style of building. You're going to want to create some interest by sticking some bits out the wall or indent a corner or two (floorplan looking like a cross or T). If you add a floor piece at the top of your wall then climb up, you start your roof out an extra 2m to create the overhang.
Maybe build a gable over your main entrance to create a portico type thing.
Any one know a good way to support stone floors for a castle roof
You can bury iron floor grates in the centre of the stone for added support. not visible if you do it right.
@sterile tartan Like here I can't fill it in without it going through the walls into the basement so I had to cover it with floor
@sterile tartan
learing center vibes
Lol
i want to create a base here because its a very nice spot, but the way this hill is made is very annoying, because it goes high up but not steep, so i cant really create different levels like u do when u build alonside a steep mountain, and i also cant level the ground, what is a good thing to do here?
if it's not steep, you should be able to raise the lower elevation enough to level it out.
look at the pic
it is not steep but it goes up alot, then i cant level it out correctly
how would i support beam this
i dont want constant beams under every floor which is how i usually do it
Try using corewood poles, they have stronger structural support than regular wood poles.
i did not know that was a thing
also sometimes my roofs are red is that normal
If you try build higher then regular wood is very limited to that, which means you need stronger material, like corewood.
ah so it goes back to wood needs to be better alr that helps alot
is there like a free cam mode to help make building easier im tryna make a half half wood wall
but it just snaps to the top of the floor or bottom
i wanna make this but just let it go further half down
You can use smaller pieces to make snap points.
Q & E buttons change snap points for building pieces.
if i tried to support this would it work? with regular wood
actually just tried with corewood maybe my foundation needs to be fixed
This wiki site explains about the building structural support system: https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Building_stability
Wtf am I doing wrong
It’s 3 beams from the closest wall/support so its gonna be red, a central beam to the floor would do it
I had that issue even with grausten beams so I had to shorten the tower spacing
Use corewood posts for support. 4m posts means 1/2 the support loss. Be sure to put vertical posts up to the top edge of the roof you already have.
if the area is too steep to build something flat, you can do what I did here. by adding an exposed basement then adding another floor to connect the hill together to make it a seamless transition
you can also just raise the ground altogether but that might ruin the aesthetic
Heyy so I'm new to the game
is there any way i can change rotate key to smth else other than moue scroll button??
is there a way to obtain a snapping point here? Also how come it doesn't snap normally? Just wondering
maybe add a 45 wood beam on the left side? I have this problem too when some structures dont snap
weird, i tried to copy your problem on my end and it seems fine to me
I had a similar problem. It seemed like the game gives up on snapping when I tried to do too much overlap (trying to cover gaps in a round roof)
Yeah it also happens to angled beams which isnt too bad because the X pieces allow you to circumvent this (i think) but im a terrible builder and want some math to snap with so it can be perfect haha
This is how I stopped the leaks on my swamp tree house roof. It's not too bad of an eyesore in the dark/rainy swamp but idk how bad it would look in the sun.
🤔🤔🤔 ideas, you are giving me
Where do yall put yalls eitr refinery
@vestal delta i made a room from black marble specific for that
Anyone got a good tip on how to make a bridge that has stairs to get on it look good?
I'm using normal wood for the bridge so I want to roof it so that it doesn't get rain damage.
keep baby locked up in some back room? that don't sound good
Anyone got an idea what I can put in the middle here? I dont want to put trees cuz it will ruin the view but maybe a statue of some kind but I dont have an idea how to make it
i'd do a little circular border of wooden beams, flat on the floor, and till the middle. plant carrots. wait for them to flower. cute little island-flower bed.
path around it, and add some grass in the corners so it looks like there's an intentional desire-path in a circle around it.
I do love that idea, I did that on some of my builds, I guess a larger scale of different colored flowers would be neat
alternatively a little communal-bonfire area
seating in a circle facing inwards to a huge bonfire. lol
I was gonna go with that but this one is inbetween 2 of those already
or you could put a ring of beehives in the centre surrounded by little lanterns & carrot plants
not too tall. ^
do you have a reference for this? seems interesting
apologies, did this w my mouse lol
lmao youre good, I can see the vision
stone circle of slabs around the outside, little beehive ring on the inside, carrots in between
🧝♂️ some call me a pro artist LOL
you actually did it well on the perspective part lmao
Can this kitchen layout work? Now that I'm trying to build floors overhead, the smoke seems impossible to manage.
I feel like you just need 4-5 meters of allowance above the hearth for it to work and you dont need an opening for the smoke to get out, I even sectioned off the area so that my smoke dont spread in my kitchen
can crops grow here?
(during storm water covers the ground)
should be fine?
What are the most important materials to gather for building a big mess hall / feast hall?
(I have a crafting area and storage area at another base.)
I was thinking Iron Bars for poles, ||Ashwood and Grausten|| for the majority of it, and finewood for the furniture and item stands + a serving tray... Any other major build materials you can think of?
Maybe like bronze for braziers?
wood/fine wood?
How many functional rooms do you need in your base? I’m thinking:
storage
workshop (workbench, forge, eitr things, black forge)
Industrial area (kiln, smelter, blast furnace)
Kitchen
Pantry
Dining hall
Bedroom
Am I missing anything?
Boar pen 😢
how much space does this fir sapling need to grow??
There is very likely stone/rock under it.
ah i see, most likely that's the problem since theres a giant rock under it
That is the culprit.
yep seems to be working fine now
thank you!
any recommendations of what should i decorate this corner with? (this room is the workshop)
in my opinion spinning wheels if you havent found a place for them yet, black forge/galrd table would feel out of place
Artisian Table would fit nicely in here also
i have a different spot set for the galdr table and the black forge, and both the artisan table and wheel are in the opposite corner of the room
A table or something with old tools/weapons?
armor stands + some storage place purely for decoration
ill give it a try thank you guys
Is there a trick I'm missing with terraforming to make it quicker because I find it really difficult to get big areas flat
no trick. You're using the hoe and pickaxe, a lot. Sometimes you need to use the hoe to raise ground and then flatten it out again.
round houses AND round roofs.. HELP! Any tips, all tips, i just can't do it! help plox
There are tons of videos available for this. Google “Valheim round roof”
HELLO, i have a very simple question, but since i am kinda new in the game, i am struggling. I am trying to dig a trench, and the walls are uneven as you can see in screenshot. I tried to fix it by raising the wall with hoe, but if i do that, you can see, it doesnt fixes problem, it just creates a wall in middle of trench and if i try to dig that wall again, it just resets back to previous problematic form, which is seen in first screenshot. Please help! I dont know how to fix it
Yeah this can happen if you dug your ditch at the wrong 1m increment. With the proper aim, you can shave just a bit off the edge, matching the remainder of your ditch. I'd recommend removing the flooring first, you'll have better luck aiming at the dirt floor. Then you can raise the bottom back up as needed and replace your floor.
Thank you for reply, i figured out how to fix the problem. I just needed to fully raise the floor on problematic area, and dig again. Floor was not the problem, i layed floor there to have even depth without bumps. Sorry for my bad english
i have another problem. I made a trench around test base by 2blocks width as seen in picture. I tried spawning troll raid and for some reason, if the troll is on the right side of the trench, he cannot hit the stake wall with his club, but if he is on the left side, he can hit it. But why? the trench is 1 block height and 2 blocks width on both sides around whole base
why troll cannot hit the wall if he is standing near right wall and why he can hit the wall if he is on left wall?
Possibly his hitbox is angled a bit better on thst side so it reaches with the club. I tend to keep a floortile lenght of space between my walls and trenches just incase
idk if its possible to help with this, but im trying to get this curve and cannot for the life of me get it to look smooth. Using Precision Rotating mod default settings.
Try asking in #mods-issues or #mods-discussion about that
i meen even just were i should start using 26* beams over 45* beams or smth. Not a modd issue i jsut cant figure out how to curve this lol
I dont get what isnt smooth. Are you placing one then turning one rotation then placing? Or something diff
just rotate it one click per piece
Can you put the thumbnail picture of a storable item on a sign? Like a carrot, for example.
Use item stands
Is that the only option? There's not a code for the thumbnail that I can type into the sign text?
You can change color of text on signs and even copy paste emojis there.
If you press windows key + . You get options but u can also what Joel said
If you want to go into mod land there is also item drawers.
Ok, I have some questions about build mechanics, so I think I need to go ahead and just ask them here. I've been building with wooden flooring right on the ground, but I've seen a few other options like laying down sill plates and such, and then putting the flooring on that. I'm still at the wood and bronze stage, so I don't have stone for an option which is what I really want.
For durability and safety, what should I be doing? Does laying the flooring right down on the dirt cause it to damage faster?
No it doesn't. A lot of people use wood beams on the ground to outline the foundation and then snap floors to those. But I don't think there's any harm to putting floors on the ground other than the ground potentially clipping through the floor.
Ahhh. Ok. Thanks.
Gonna build my mistlands crafting areas across this hallway from my current workshop. I feel this compulsion to use black marble for the area. Is it too fruity to have the black marble right next to the regular stone?
I could also blend the walkway, alternating them, or checkered
If it’s a visual change, make it really obvious and it’s generally more pleasing to the eye. Raise it up a bit or add lighting / gazebo framing over the top to highlight the difference
Cool ideas, I didn't think about raising it up
Why is black forge so absurdly tall 😩
actually the forge and the workbench are just as high. Somehow I got lucky placing them and the cover rays clp the roof overhang lol
Anyone know what I could put/decorate in this area? It cant be portals/storage because I already have a lot of those
do you have a fish display?
Trophies?
Armour or weapon cache?
Crafting area or perhaps a kitchen?
Tame some animals and make a home for them there?
unfortunately I already made a place for all of those in this house
i would like a fireplace in this area, but the chimney design is like this, any way i can have the fire burn whilst keeping the top this way?
id be ok moving it down, if that would work
I need tips on how to build two floor cozy house
One floor from stone the other wood
Something like this i found it on pinterest
You can use item stands and surtling trophies to mimic a fireplace
I will try this ty
You mean like stop roof pieces from breaking when u chain too many together?
Yeah
if that's the case, you can use beams to make a frame, they have better structural strength than just the roof pieces
Like on the inside?
any side works
you're just limited on how far you can chain the pieces
I encounter a swarm of greylijgd and greydwars
Brutes too, so how do i survive them
Also im trying to build a dock but idk how to build supports underwaters
Description: The Ultimate Guide to Valheim Build Heights in 2022! In this one I made a video which I think is a full comprehensive guide to build height in Valheim. There is A LOT of information in this one! Let me know if I missed anything in the comments!

Tim...
This video is the best I've seen at explaining how structural stability actually works
Purists will push a cart into the water and stand on it to build out there. Easiest way, imo is build camera mod by azumatt that lets you detach camera from your character when in build mode, so you can just fly down there and build whatever
Thanks
i would like a roof that overhangs here but ive built it 9m wide, how can i get a center roofpiece in the middle?
Free place pole in the center or use a door or something else to snap to half a meter?
the standard door is a half meter thick. snap a door edgewise to the end of your centre beam, then snap a 1m pole to the other edge of your door.
like this?
Like this. Sorry about lighting.
much appreciated 🙏
The edges line up, so yeah.
ty
what banners/wall deco would fit here?
Thoughts on this kitchen layout before I start throwing down walls/roof/etc ?
Also, which location do yall like best for ingredient storage: 1 or 2?
love that barrels under the fermenters idea
imo 2 makes more sense cus its behind the kegs
is there a better setup than this for bm chests + labels?
If you use finewood chests and place the sign against a sidewall, you can have the sign itself out of sight but the text will appear in front of the chests, idk if you can do that with blackmetal
that's neat
Youll still the able to edit the name in the narrow space between chest and wall
So this is basically my first house ever in Skyrim, I've built it a really long time ago.
Now I'm working on expanding and improving all my (functional) house area's. I called this area "Grainmoor Villa" and as the name already suggests; I want to build a villa (mansion) in a farm-like area. So basically a huge plantation with a villa. Now I obviously don't want to destroy my first ever Valheim house, that'd be a shame. So I was thinking about repurposing or slightly changing its appearance to make it fit in with its environment.
Any suggestions?
Barn?
I think you could experiment with some overhang and beams to create interest and visual differentiation Maybe a porch type area around the house?
I know it's bland and I would've destroyed it if it wasn't my first ever house. I could try to make it seem more interesting sure, but I'm also kind of wondering how I'm gonna make the area look good...
Maybe I should go for a village vibe, multiple houses, different purposes... This could be a seaside inn for example.
Yeah, or a homestead style area. Boar pen, barn, workshop shed, etc.
It's kind of a mess right now, there's an half-assed workshop on the side of this house and there's one of those automatic boar-breed farms a lil away.
And huge farm area.
However, I want this area to feel warm and welcoming. Should probably start of with planting some grass.
And making solid paths.
If you want to go for an Inn style setup, definitely some grass and paths. Maybe a gazebo and smaller cottages along the shore.
Food storage came out great. I think I'm just going to build a meat locker on the other side of the kitchen instead of trying to cram more chests in here, though.
So this is the area I'm working with. I've already grown grass on the place (already looks better).
So I'm thinking about a small village-like area in this area (pubs, homes, workshops, etc...), which leads to a small bridge over the puddle on the right (which I might extend around the entire area, if possible). The bridge leading to a huge plantation with Grainmoor Villa in the middle.
Probably gonna slightly lift the ground towards the puddle, to make it seem more interesting and "natural".
Oh yeah and a small docks (as this place functions as a import/export area) and a road to the sacrificial stones.
is coloured signs modded?
no, you can do html colors
peak
What Larsi said, just type "<color=#Hex>", so for example if you want the color green (hex code 4CAF50), just type "<color=#4CAF50>" on your sign.
ty ty
Iirc the "color=" part is not even needed if you use Hex code.
So <#4CAF50> should be enough.
or you can do <color=green>
<size=300><voffset=10000> 😎
Definitely improved the house quite a bit already. Should add windows and such though...
Oh yeah and it has a big chimney in the back.
I'm going for that frost/cold visual effect for my meat storage. For options, I see:
Frostner
Dragons Tears
Stone Golem Trophy
and crystal walls for ice
Anything else?
Wisp torch maybe
Frost meads?
negative
Is this where I get blue jute from? if so how do I get it
Break it.
geez, I tried but thought I must be doing something wrong. Didn't realize I was going to have to take out the whole damn wall
Iirc you need to hit those.
ahh much better, thanks
TP 5 cores 20 stone and 4 coal over and find a rusty thing 👀. take it all!
I am an aspiring builder, and I'm checking out how other people do certain things so I can develop my own style. However, one thing that I have trouble with, is picking out the right spots. I'm not great at teraforming. What are some reasons you might've picked out one spot over another, aside from distance to a resource? I've beat the game out of my little shack with everything crammed into it, but now it's time to actually build some cool stuff
why exactly is this happening?
same fuckin shit with my stone walls/floors rn, im bout to break something
😭
and i thought im gonna make myself a beatiful corner hearth but this is ruining everything
it's pythagoras' fault
is there some easy pro way to make sure your blocks are lining up right before you've built 100 of them?
4m across = normal roof. Therefore any multiple should line up. When using stone the width is 1m. So if you turned a corner and put the roof on the outside edge, you added a meter to your gap. There is no 1 meter wide ridge roof. I failed at math and suck at building, but I think this is the way
Better idea, start with wood beams and roof it before you add stone to the wood frame
It's been so long since Ive built a roof. My gameplay experience mostly consists of building floors and walls then destroying them and rebuilding in another way that also isn't good and needs to be torn down
same.
i did get to help build this #screenshots message and i have been getting better, but i feel you for sure
theres no roof on it tho XD
holy..
it started from a wood frame. we had some great builders who gave a lot of tips
Looks amazing
in my case, I found the problem block(row of blocks) that were somehow offset from the others... alllllll the way at the bottom
Shit I set the thermostat in the new freezer to -100 to cool it down but I forgot and left it running
Very nice work. crystal in the floor too?
Yep!
I've never actually looked at the top of those windows.
Thats a really cool idea!!!
I'm reasonably happy with the floors/walls/entrances. All that's left is the near impossible task of deciding how to arrange everything inside 😩 . On a side note, what do yall think of this ice column tho?
idk if I like it, just testing out the idea. Maybe looks better in a corner tho
Its p cool. Id try to bury fish in it or something shiny. Theres a trick you can do with the door that makes a fat smooth pole with wood. Idk if itll work with crystal bc it comes up a little short of the pole in the center as you go to 2nd lvl and up, but if you buried poles in that spot it may not be apparent from the outside and itll let you have a solid pole. Just an idea
how can i detail/decorate this ashwood wall?
im gonna replace the wood beams for ashwood or darkwood later on
Love what you're doing with crystal walls, it's so rare that they are utilized well.
What sort of building is this? I don't want to suggest cozy decor if it's a storehouse. 😛
its a tavern
In that case, an outdoor seating area, a neutral looking banner, and shutter styled windows.
Also, can't go wrong with a bit of lighting on the wall!
hmm, ill give those a try, thanks!
I usually use signs to create more depth
Don't ask me how, but some of the wizards on here add things in front of things in front of other things to add depth to large flat surfaces like that and make it look more interesting
Okay so I'm trying to make a river around my plot. However, the terrain is too high (due to a stupid little hill).
I'm still trying to stick to the original plan though; small farmstead village with a river surrounding it... Then a bridge leading to a mansion with a lot of farmland surrounding it.
I'm guilty of this practice, but I try to keep it minimalistic to keep my instance count low.
@stark wigeon Here's a video example of a hexagonal hip roof with a raised opening for ventilation
Like this or is there a better way for freezer storage?
I like this, but maybe try trimming the outside the chest with crystal all the way around it, then trim that crystal with short walls. It could give it a frost build-up effect, like a deep freezer.
Like this?
Looks good!
Cool thanks
@vestal delta hide a frostner or two behind it to get the visual frost effect?
anyone thought of using an iron cooking station to hang cuts of meat in a walk-in style freezer? You could bury the sides in stone walls, build a fireplace under it just long enough to hang meat, then destroy the campfire so it looks like you've got chains hanging from the ceiling.
Oo a meat locker vibe would be very nice
@vestal deltain my opinion try with the fine wood chest
You dont like the bm chests?
@vestal delta they look nice but i prefer the more simple and clener look of the fine wood ones plus 2 fine wood one's is more storage space than one black metal
Seems really hard to get frost effect to bleed through the chest and all. In the pic: Right has 2 stone golem totems behind the chest. Left has nothing. I don't think you can tell the totems are there except from seeing the frost from the side, which will be blocked by the next chest. I tried frostners too but they weren't any better. The left chest has dragon tears in the floor in front of it... that might be the best I can do
Actually maybe this works better with the cage floor instead of a wooden 1x1 b/c it lets some of the light through
From left to right, the frost effect in the back is from: 1) frostners, 2) stone golem totems, 3) dragon's tears
Is this the spot you want that or are you just testing ideas
both kinda. Just testing ideas but current plan is to put chests like this all the way around against the walls, with a row in the middle maybe, but I don't have all that sorted out yet bc I want to put some meat racks and things too for decoration
👍 my friend did one with the big wood doors and a couple layers of 1x1 iron floor and some trophies. Idk i kind of want to say i like what youre trying but im not really a fan of this design
not a fan of the chest setup or something else?
Cant really put my finger on it but if you were feeling that way too I figured maybe youd want to hear that, I could be wrong
I'm not crazy about it but I am such a perfectionist. Sometimes I just need to say it's good enough and roll with it. But I am still looking for better ways
does anyone have any tips on how to make my roof look better
The dragon's tears seems to be working quite well!
he says as I am blasting moder with fireballs for more ^^
Bahaha, glad we both came to the same conclusion then, even if I was late to the party. 😅
thoughts/suggestions on the freezer freezer / centerpiece?
That looks really epic, Mr. Freeze eat your frozen heart out.
moving backwards not forwards sometimes =/ I need to move the ziggurat b/c there's not enough room on the right side, and also I want to expand the wall to make the freezer bigger. But then my brain is like "ORRRR you could tear down the ziggurat and build a magetower instead"
sees epic build
"Im going backwards"
I think ur going forwards. Im assuming ur using devcommands bc of the view, im wondering if you have nocost. If you dont maybe you could copy your save file and do tests in another world free of limitations so u dont stress too much
It's build camera mod by azumatt, but I have used devcommands some. Copy save file? Never thought of that hmm
If youre using mods just stick with that then, azus mod is amazing. Yeah if you go to manage saves in the world selection (i believe) you can either find the location of the cloud file or move it to local and copy that one (probably better to google how to do it)
laying the groundwork
Can I do something with this little alcove behind the stairwell? or should I just fill it in with stone blocks
Mead keg?
I assume there could be chilled meads
Slap a door there and some shelves make a walk in cold pantry
Is there no way to place raw meat on a table? Item stands dont work and looks like serving tray only works for cooked variants
Unfortunately
F there goes my butcher table idea
Item stand?
nope
You can throw them there. They always throw the same distance so if you can get good at that make one shelf at a time and lob them into place?
Building things around items that are thrown out causes them to move around also, so you can manipulate them from landing spot a bit here and there with making small items around them or little wall/post bits etc
I tried that but it's annoying how they still have the sparkles rising off of them like lootable items on the ground
Ah right, yeah that is annoying. I can’t find an alternative to mounting raw meat either yet.
Are we keeping this "vanilla"? A quick search and there is an item stand all items mod
That worked perfectly. Thanks again
I might have gone overboard with the amount of dragons tears. FPS is struggling lol
any tips to easily spawnproof the surroundings of my base? im trying my first blackforest base but the enemies are a huge problem
something that doesnt stand out from the natural black forest foliage
You can bury workbenches in pits or (far easier and relatively unobtrusive IMO) use campfires. Don't add any wood; they still act for spawnproofing even when not lit.
yeah tried that already but they just keep breaking
what about campfires in a slightly sunken pit (one hit with the pickaxe? only trolls should be able to hit them with the ground slam attack.
once the campfire goes out it's usually hard to hit.
its okay i found a nicer place in the meadows anyway
Either build little shacks that blend into the surroundings or go for log pole candles.
Put a 2m beam down, then put a torch down, a bit away from the beam then take a core beam and free place it against the beam and slide it down till the top of the torch peaks trough.
You now have a log candle that won't be attacked and some lighting for around your base and if you want you can place another core wood piece on top and hide the torch to make it fit in more with the surroundings.
How do you build your eitr refinery without it damaging your surrounding structures?
Encase in iron, copper or black marble
Thanks! makes sense!
