Clearly the majority of you guys want a voting system for sprite alts, so after discussing the details with the rest of staff, we're gonna be trialing one for the next few months! You can read about the system in the #dex-entries-submissions pin read_pinned. We may adjust the exact mechanics as time goes on, however. We'll see how it goes. #discord-suggestions is a good place to suggest ideas if you have any!

For now, there will be a batch of 30ish voting pairs dropping around the beginning of each month when I prep the monthly packs, and the votes will be open for at least 24 hours. I'll ping <@&1019381948709343282> when new votes are available, so make sure to grab the role from #roles if you want to be notified! allthethings everyone's allowed to vote, spriter or not. smile

I'll also be trickling in batches of sprites to be voted on between sprite pack releases, as we have a lot of old alts to sift through. 10 polls are already up! ohyes

While I have you sprite people pinged, I'd also like to bring your attention to our new and increasingly blue roles, <@&1016903448756760618> , <@&1016904546682941453> and <@&1016904862363037777> dealwithit Everyone should already have their appropriate role, but please DM a sprite manager once you've posted enough sprites to the gallery to earn the next tier! ohyes

Hey spriters! quick note about #spriting-discussion!

Going forward, please only post up to six sprites per thread. Painless

Threads for more than one sprite make it very difficult and time consuming for us sprite managers to track which sprite have or haven't been posted to the gallery, and which gallery posts were or weren't posted to spritework, so we'd appreciate it a lot if you posted different sprites separately each with their own thread when possible. aww

We know y'all like to post things like full evo lines and batches of sprites using the same head mon together though, so 6 sprites per thread seems like a fair middle-ground. smile

Also, reminder: Please always use the full name of every mon you sprited in your thread names so we can search for them easily!

Hello, everyone! We have decided to trial turning #spriting-discussion into a forum as opposed to the typical thread structure. The reason for trying this is because it works almost identically to the way we use threads now, but it's easier to organise and more condensed, so you don't have to scroll as much to see all of the new sprites that are being posted. We plan on trying this for the next month or so, please let us know what you think about this new system as you give it a try.

Posts in #spriting-discussion will currently be paused to make sure everyone gets to experience the new system and offer their input. If you seek feedback, please post a topic in #1050404143807873157 and from there it's exactly the same formula as it is now. #is-my-sprite-ready is still open for you to get some final input on your sprites before posting them to #sprite-gallery, just link your forum the same way you'd link your thread in the current system.

We'll keep you posted on any changes we plan on making in the near future. If you have any concerns or wishes, don't be afraid to DM a Staff Member, we just want the best thing for all members here, and that of course includes our spriting community. 😄

As our server expands, it means that new audiences are making their way into the Infinite Fusion community. Pokémon is a game played by people of all ages, as is IF. We therefore aim for this server to be similar, and this is why Rule 2 is in place. The January pack is here!!! ohyes Sorry it took so long, there were over 4000 sprites to process, including almost a thousand polls to do in #dex-entries-submissions despair

However I'd like to thank you all for your incredible work, it's amazing to see so many new faces contributing so much great art to the game! rainbudew Maybe we'll reach 100% completion one day Crackmuth

Also, note 1: that this month's pack also contains 1) all previous joke alts and 2) all prevous regional alts ohyes they are still alts (even if there's no main) so no one sees them in game by default, but now they'll be included in the main CustomBattlers so they can be easily accessible to be swapped through the Pokédex in game, without having to manually sort the sprites!

And, note 2: the 1-86 pack has been ran through PNGGauntlet, greatly reducing its size! If you'd like your IF game to be a little more lightweight, please replace your games's folder with the one from the full pack! (that's you, @sand egret huehue)

And while we're at it, note 3: icons don't work with the current version of the game, so I've taken then out for now. I'm still collecting new ones tho, and I'll add em all back in if/when they become usable again allthethings

Since the game is now able to download sprites on the go, I have also included a more lightweight version which comes with no custom or autogen sprites. The game will download the latest custom sprites (or autogen when none exist) whenever it needs it. This version will require an internet connection to play however. A version with the latest spritepacks pre-downloaded is also available as always.

Hey, IF members! Some extensive changes are being made to a few roles around here, so I thought it would be a good idea to announce and explain the changes in detail.
First up is Hall of Fame roles.

All the HOF roles except the Fourth and Fifth are now gone, and have been renamed to Playthrough Champion, and Playthrough Master respectively.
The requirements for getting them are still the same, 10 HOFs and 20 HOFs.

The other roles changed are the Completionist roles, for Spriters. The new system is a little complex, but should hopefully solve a few problems.
"Completionist" will no longer be about Completing, instead, showing how much you like one pokemon.

Making 50 of a pokemon, head or body, gets you a tier up in the new system. The new roles are:
Poke Fan/Great Poke Fan/Ultra Poke Fan/Master Pokefan
Poke Maniac/Great Poke Maniac/Ultra Poke Maniac/Master Poke Maniac
Each tier in this system is 50 of any one pokemon. You can mix and match heads and bodies for your 50 batch. Alts are allowed for any amount of the 50.
Each batch of 50 can be a new different pokemon, or the same pokemon as your previous batch.

Examples:
50 chinchous and 50 voltorbs will get you Great Poke Fan.
100 voltorbs will ALSO get you Great Poke Fan.

Because it's no longer "Completionist", these roles can be obtained before, or after the completion of a pokemon. Reaching 100% no longer stops the obtaining of these roles.

Hello, IF server! A small change has been made to the function of one of the artwork channels, so here's an explanation on what we did:

#sprite-charts has been retooled into #1110678444896964628. It serves mostly the same purpose, but is now a forum, and allows broader projects to have their own threads made. Instead of just being for team threads, it now allows update threads for IF websites, official game projects, events, and more. We'll slowly be phasing out #sprite-charts and letting it die off naturally, and eventually making it a public archive like #spriting-discussion.

If you previously had a thread for your team, please go to #1110680705018646658 and request a team thread there! A staff member will make one for you as soon as they can.

Bit of a smaller update than usual. I'm releasing this one ahead of schedule because of a new bug with the autogenerated sprites.
This does NOT contain any of the new Pokémon that were recently announced.

Our expert archeologists have found a new fossil in Kanto! They only found one fossil, which is somewhat unusual since fossils usually come in pairs, but even stranger is that we can't quite tell what Pokémon it will revive into yet! I reckon we will be able to excavate it fully with about 1000 pickaxe swings. Let's get digging! ⛏️⛏️⛏️

Sike, Infinite Fusion's favorite color is ALL OF THEM!!! Dancing in the flower fields of IF, you will now find:

ORICORIO, IN ALL OF ITS FORMS!

This is once again an EXTRA Pokémon or is it four extra Pokémon? that doesn't count towards the 20 community picks! This was my personal pick, which really was evil ploy to twist Frogman's arm into making forms supported in IF! Now, due to how Pokédex numbers, types, stats, etc are calculated, this means that they each have their own Pokédex number, which is a bit wacky heehee But this also means other Pokémon, such as Rotom and Giratina, may also get their forms change added to IF in the (far) future! 👀 4,294,967,296 Spinda patterns when

Here are some bird facts for y'all:

  • Oricorio and Oricorio fusions will be able to change forms freely by interacting with any flower in the overworld!
  • Revelation Dance takes on the primary type of the Pokémon! Free stab kirbo
  • All forms are visually different fusion-wise, so that's x4 as many sprites to make for each Pokémon! oH_lord Oricorio effectively has 16 self-fusions, too heehee

A playtest version with the new Pokémon is now available!

So to give a bit of context, in order to be able to add more Pokémon to the game I had to pretty much completely remake how the game handles fusions from the ground up. Long story short, the fusion's data (stats, movesets, typings, etc.) are now being generated on the fly instead of being pre-recorded in a database. Since this is a pretty major change, it also comes with its load of potential new bugs, that's why we need you guys to help iron this out as much as possible before the full update is ready to be released.

What is included?

  • New system for generating fusions dynamically (should be invisible to the players)
  • All previously announced new Pokémon, including Oricorio* which was just announced today!
  • Form changing flowers mechanic for Oricorio
  • Free rare candies in Viridian City Pokemart to help with testing
  • Everything else that was already in the base game

*For the purpose of the playtest, Oricorio has been made into the starter Pokémon to make it easier to test form changes

What we are looking for:

  • Bug reports, specifically for any feature that involves fused Pokémon (Battles, Fusing, Trades, Pokedex, Randomizer, etc.)
  • Any new issues that weren't present in the game before
  • Feedback on game performance (compared to the older versions)
  • Problems with the calculated the fused pokemon's or differences in how it is being calculated compared to the older versions (Names, Typings, Stats, Movesets, Abilities, Evolutions, Pokédex entries, Sprites, etc.)
  • Inconsistencies or issues with Oricorio's form change mechanics
  • Potential balance issues for the new Pokémon
  • Issues with the autogenerated sprites (especially new Pokémon)

Because of that, GitHub was receiving a dangerous amount of traffic.
Therefore, they have decided to permanently lock my two repositories.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, i will find another way to host my fusion calculator and the custom sprites.

The website aegide.github.io will never become available.
I am considering using https://aegide.gitlab.io/ to host my website (if GitLab allows it).

We are currently in the process of migrating the game's sprites database from github to gitlab. In about an hour from now, the old github repository from which the game downloads the sprites for the dynamic version will be closed.

This means that dynamic versions of the game prior to v5.3.1.2 will no longer be able to automatically download both autogenerated and custom sprites. You can update your game to version 5.3.1.2 via the game's installer found in #downloads . Sorry for the inconvenience.

This will not affect the preloaded version.

Hello spriters! It's come to our attention that there's been an issue regarding giving proper credit when using other user's custom bases and assets. We've discussed how to tackle this issue, and came to the conclusion that an update to the #spriter-agreement message was necessary.

This change only applies to discord, in-game credits won't be affected. For spritework threads, it's recommended, but it won't be enforced. Just make sure it's included in the gallery post 🙂

Also with the ongoing credits project, it would help us a lot if the word "collab" was included in gallery posts that need more than one person credited. These need to be put in manually so it would help us more easily credit concept artists, spriters who helped with no-qa sprites, and etc.

It's not required, but of course you guys are welcome to edit your old https://discord.com/channels/302153478556352513/543958354377179176 and/or
https://discord.com/channels/302153478556352513/1094790320891371640 posts if you so wish. Just remember it needs to be included from here on out if you use someone's custom base or assets! Here is what we added for clarity:

Base & Asset Credits

  • When using custom bases or custom assets made by other users, you must include credits in your #sprite-gallery post if the other user requested to be credited in their #assets-gallery post. Credits should look like "base [pokémon name] by @[user]" or something similar.
  • You may (but don't have to) credit the creator of the base or asset even if they don't specifically request it, as a courtesy.
  • If a user asks not to be pinged, simply write their username without the @ and then edit the ping in after posting.
  • Refusing to properly credit a base after being asked will lead to your #sprite-gallery post to be deleted if you don't edit your post within 72 hours.

Frogman hasn't been sitting around this entire time, no! He's been hard at work on the game, which means we're getting EVEN MORE Pokémon than initially planned! ohyes These bonus Pokémon are a mix of his own favourites and Pokémon that will be beneficial to the game for a variety of reasons other than them being popular with the community. Here's how things will work:

  • We will be revealing one evolutionary line per day for the next seven days, from Sept 30th to October 6th!
  • There won't be any fancy games or reaction goals to get the new reveals for any of them. heehee You'll get one teaser image at most. Maybe.
  • There will NOT be any contests for these Pokémon! I'll be honest though, we need to get as many sprites for them as possible before the new version of the game comes out, so we've got a juicy sprite incentive for you:

The Spriter Choice Award

  • Any spriter who makes AT LEAST ONE SPRITE of the new Pokémon revealed during the Blitz will be allowed to participate in an exclusive Spriter only Pokémon popularity poll, much like the poll that the whole community was allowed to vote on, from which the ONE winning Pokémon line will be picked and added to the game directly!
  • Making more than one sprite will increase the power of your votes! Each different Bonus Blitz Pokémon you make a sprite for will increase the power of your votes by one, up to a maximum multiplier of however many Pokémon will be revealed during the Blitz. Making multiple sprites of the same Bonus Blitz Pokémon doesn't increase your chances further, and a sprite of a fusion of two Bonus Blitz mon will only count for one.
  • To participate, simply make at least ONE OR MORE FUSION SPRITE containing Pokémon revealed during the Bonus Blitz, and submit it to the #sprite-gallery! Make sure to put it through #1050404143807873157 first, of course. make sure to #1134483288703119361 if you can't post to the Gallery yet, too!
  • You will have until the end of October 20th to participate.

Community Announcement

Not too long ago a user brought up concerns regarding a fusion inspired by goblins and the considerable overlapping traits between goblins and common dehumanizing depictions of Jewish people. Their concerns were met with mockery and belittling, which is not tolerated on this server, and hindered a functional dialogue.

We take these concerns seriously and we hope to work with both the spriter and the concerned user to ensure this sprite won't be offensive to Jewish people. Our response to the situation was not up to par but we aim to get better regarding sprites with sensitive imagery to let spriters keep their creative freedom while also ensuring that users can voice their concerns without being harassed.

To reaffirm:

  • We do not tolerate hateful imagery in sprites.
  • Accidental sensitive imagery happens, especially with Hypno and Jynx, and we aim to resolve every instance of it.
  • Given the overwhelming amount of users in this server, many of them minors, we ask you to bring concerns regarding sprites to Sprite Managers and concerns regarding users to Moderators by either mentioning them or DM'ing them. This is both for your safety and so that we can respond more efficiently.

Update 6.0 is now available!

After several months of anticipation, the new Pokémon are finally there! ohyes This update adds all of new Pokémon that have been announced since August! Most of these new Pokémon will be available during the main game in classic mode, with the legendaries being post-game.

The full changelog is too long to fit in this post, so here's a small summary of the new features added in this update:

  • Added 41 new Pokémon (46 including forms)
  • Fusion data is now calculated dynamically
  • Added new post-game questline for Necrozma
  • Completely remade the Sealed Chamber maps and added new puzzles for the Regi trio
  • Added hidden Pokémon nests that can found in specific areas
  • Added several new quests and events related to the new Pokémon
  • Added new Regi triple fusion

Christmas is finally upon us and 2024 is right around the corner. This year we've seen many new faces join the server and many big changes to Pokémon IF. Loads of new Pokémon and updates, many new spriters and over 90K new sprites added this year alone thanks to all of your amazing work! The server has exploded and soon we will be at 469K members.

With this in mind, it seems only fair that we give our most sincere thanks to all of you wonderful people. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday ahead of you. Good news, everyone! On behalf of our frog overlord @sand egret, I bring you news of an awesome feature, coming soon™️ to an IF near you:

This is an UPCOMING FEATURE that will be added to the game sometime later this year hopefully! Here's the gist of how it will work:

  • You will be able to change your skin color, hat, haircut, hair color and outfit in-game!
  • Some outfits, hats and hairstyles will be unlockable through gameplay, such as NPC gifts, shops and quest rewards.
  • Players will be able to add custom outfits, hairstyles and hats straight into the game folders as well.

The feature itself is still extremely early in development, so take all the above info with a grain of salt, it's all still subject to change.

While Frogman works on the coding side of things, we community members can do what we do best: make some amazing sprites! ohyes Please head to the Character Customization PIF Project thread if you'd like to contribute and make sprite sheets or to see what's in the works!

👒 Character customization demo! 👕

You can now try out the newly announced character customization feature for yourself in this new demo!

This demo is basically the full game, but it adds new NPCs that allow players to change their hats/clothes/hairstyles in Pallet Town and on the top floor of Pokémo Centers. You'll be able to check out the existing outfits made by the community so far and add in your own! keep in mind that custom outfits are a WIP feature so it might still be unstable and incomplete in some parts. Although it should be compatible with it, it is highly recommended to not use your main savefile for this.

This is a demo for a new feature, not a new game update

We really want to flesh out this new feature with as many as outfits as possible, so if you're a <@&392803830900850688> and you want to contribute by making your own custom outfits for the game, please head over to the Character Customization PIF Project thread! ohyes

Just 4 months after Meloetta and Cresselia (and Bruxish) were officially announced, they are now re finally obtainable in the game! heehee Along with a bunch of other cool new features. You can download the new update right now from the game installer in #downloads !
Huge thanks to @fading blade for planning out the Meloetta and Cresselia quests, as well as the custom graphics in this update ohyes

Zigzag's bot manager, @sage ridge , is very excited to share a new bot command with everyone: !battle This command will show you a preview of what your sprite will look like in-game.

Usage

To use the command, reply to a message that has a sprite attached with !battle (the sprite must have a valid file name).

You can optionally include the name of the arena you want the battle to take place in (e.g. !battle beach). The list of all possible locations is attached below.

Update 6.2 is now available!!

This update brings some graphics improvements, a new town map, changes to how abilities work, and a lot of background stuff in preparation for the upcoming character customization feature! You can download it from the game installer in #downloads

Here's a summary of the changes. Check out this link for the full changelog.
**Player character **

  • Updated the player character's sprites
  • Updated the surfing base and dive sprites - now changes depending on the Pokémon using the move
  • Added a special sprite for when the player is surfing using the Surfboard instead of Surf
  • Made it possible to set the player's skin color and hair color at the start of a game
  • Improved the underwater effect while diving

**Gameplay **

  • Abilities are now determined by the Pokemon themselves rather than the species when fusing (ie, you now get to pick one of the abilities of the two Pokémon you're fusing, no matter the fusion order)
  • Roaming legendaries now cause weather effects when they're on roaming on the current map

**Town map **

  • Updated the town map graphics
  • The player's current location is now displayed on the town map or when using Fly/Teleport
  • Johto and Sevii Islands are now hidden from the Town Map until first visited

**Randomizer **

  • Wild legendaries now always randomize into legendaries in randomizer
  • Added an option to exclude legendaries from regular encounters randomizer
  • Added an option for randomized starters to always be 1st-stage Pokémon

**System **

  • Made it possible to set the difficulty from the options menu
  • Difficulty and game mode are now displayed on the Continue screen
  • Moved Expert and Reversed modes to the experimental options menu
  • Updated the battle command buttons

Hey folks, it's time for an announcement for our spriters.
We're announcing something nobody likes, but has to happen: Rule updates.
It's going to affect a good chunk of reference/joke sprites, as well as a select bunch of mains.
Some of you have already noticed the rule that snuck it's way into spriting guidelines.
"Note: Joke and reference sprites still need to follow the basic spriting guidelines and be free from sprite errors, though they can be stylistically different."
Until now we haven't acted upon this rule, but we are from this moment forward.

The short of it is that we're going to slowly take out any joke alts that aren't meeting spriting guidelines. This is due to filebloat, the game is getting big. The other big thing is that we're limiting variation sprites to a maximum of one per sprite, and the change needs to be big enough to warrant a variant. One specific one that will also be taken out under this rule is any shiny alt. There's a lot of details surrounding this, full description what is and what is not good to stay will be in #spriting-guidelines message.

We have made something in preparation of all this. In PIF-projects, there will be two new threads: Team Shiny and Team Jokes. If you want to help archiving sprites that will be taken out of the default sprite pack, you can help create an optional sprite pack. We encourage you keep these type of sprites alive, but due to file bloat and the ever-increasing size of IF, we won't be integrating them in the default sprite pack from this moment forward.

This news might be sudden and possibly an unpleasant surprise for some of you.
We also understand this is going to affect some of you more than others.
If there are any questions or concerns, please, feel free to DM me.
We value all you spriters immensely and this is not an easy decision.
In spite of all this, I wish you all happy spriting and keep doing what you folks do best.

Half a million members!!!

On Fusion day on August 8, we opened a vote for a new Pokémon that would be open until we reached 500,000 members on the discord. About 500 hours later (yes actually heehee), we finally reached that goal!! blurry_ohyesblurry_ohyesblurry_ohyes

It is absolutely insane how large this community has gotten in the last year or so. We're by far the largest discord for any Pokémon fangame at this point which is crazy to think about in itself. It's genuinely such a beautiful thing to see everyone come together to make sprites and other content for the game like this. All resources rerouted to the emergency safety measures. The cracks in the window are reinforced, making it sturdy and safe once again.

It's hard to make out what is going on on the outside of submarine. Is this the same Pokémon that was crawling on your windows before? Whatever they are, these are not Pokémon that have ever been seen in Kanto before, we must document them and add them to the Pokédex! ... But you research equipment is down! React with 🔧 to reset the system!

You successfully restart your submarine's systems and quickly turn on all your recording equipment. The two Pokémon run away, spooked by the light, but your sonar equipment scans them just in time to confirm the identity of these elusive species, and that they are indeed endemic to Kanto. The expedition was a success!

Heads up, the game's custom sprites repo has been shut down by gitlab, so the game will not be able to download custom sprites automatically for the time being.
At the moment, we have no information as to why it has been shut down, but we're trying to figure out a solution to get it back up.

You can probably expect some delays for new Pokemon reveals, game updates etc. while we sort this out, unfortunately.

You can still get the preloaded version of the game from here in the meantime and manually install it and you should be able to play the game normally with it:

<@&1093003158969655356> Concerning the issue with the gitlab sprites repo, I won't go too deep into the details but basically the repository got shut down because we were using in a way that broke Gitlab's Acceptable Use policy. We had been using it in this way for years so it is unclear why they decided to shut it down now specifically, but it is what it is.

I'm working on a new, permanent solution (which should also improve the speed at which the game can download the sprites so that's a plus),~~ but for now we have a temporary solution which should fix the issue for all of the custom sprites (autogens are still borked)

You will need to update your game to version 6.2.4 to fix the issue causing sprites not to be downloaded

<@&1284535095696294025> There were some issues with the custom sprites database earlier today where it would download some invalid sprites. The issue is fixed now, but if the invalid sprites were already downloaded on your pc, you might have to delete them manually.

If you get an error message like this, this means that you need to go delete sprite 109.459.png (or whatever the sprite in the message is)

About the AI-generated dex entries...

So the inclusion of Ai-generated Pokédex descriptions in the 6.4 changelog has sparked a lot controversy on discord. I understand why some of you are concerned about that feature so I want to share some context and explain what this feature is exactly.

From very early in the game's development, fusions have had Pokédex entries that were generated by taking the first sentence one Pokémon's entryand combining it with the second sentence of the other's entry. This sometimes made funny combinations, but it also led to broken grammar and a lack of variety. This new system is just a more sophisticated version of this.

  • It takes the official entries of both Pokémon and feeds them to an LLM to mash them together in a similar fashion, but in a way that flow better.
  • The only information that the LLM receives to generate these are the official Pokédex entries of both Pokémon. No custom entries were used in this process.
  • AI-generated entries are identified in dark blue in-game while custom-made entries are green in order to differentiate them.
  • The entries have all been pre-generated and are simply loaded in the game from a text file; The environmental impact of generating every single one of them was about as much as a few gaming sessions on a high-end PC

The generated entries have always been meant as placeholders for fusions that don't have a custom Pokédex entry yet and this is still the case, in the same way that the algorithmically-generated Japeal sprites are meant to be placeholders for the community-made custom sprites. These entries aren't creative in any way and the difference should be pretty obvious when you look at the examples below. The intent is really just to make the descriptions less same-y and more interesting to read for players.

Any entry that was made by a real person will ALWAYS have priority over the generated ones. Obviously, I would much prefer if every fusion had a custom entry, but it's just not realistic on the short term.
As of now about 10,000/250,000 have custom made entries in the game. We do need more people to help create cool entries to replace these autogen ones so if you're interested, please consider submitting your own entries #dex-entries-submissions message or even applying to the Unown staff helper role to approve submitted entries! #become-a-staff-helper message

Our stance on AI remains the same as it has always been. We want to encourage creativity and we will never use AI for sprites or concept art, and human-made content will always be prioritized. We value our community greatly, your contributions are what makes Infinite Fusion what it is.

About the AI-generated entries - Part 2

I have taken the decision to remove auto-generated Pokédex entries from the game. They will no longer be in the game as of version 6.4.2, which can be downloaded right away.

This represents several dozens of hours of work down the drain for a feature that was only meant to make the experience a bit more immersive for players. Unfortunately, a vocal minority of members of the community, many of whom have never played the game, are tearing the community apart over this feature.

Infinite Fusion has always been about the community first and as much as it pains me to penalize the players for this and to compromise my vision for the game, the community is more important.

To the spriters who have requested their sprites to be removed from the game over this, it's actually a lot of work to remove large amounts of sprites from the game so we are working on an automated solution to get it done as soon as possible.

Sorry to everyone who actually liked the feature. May you have a less stressful holiday season than mine 😅 🎄

In regards to AI Usage

First off, we would like to apologize for the use of AI and would like to restate that it will NOT be in the game. We also would like to apologize for the tone of our past announcements. It's been stressful for everyone, and especially with this being sandwiched along with the holidays, it was a pretty messy situation, and we appreciate your patience!

We understand why some of you felt betrayed by the previous update, and while it was never our intent to cause you harm, that doesn’t mean your concerns weren’t valid. We know that emotions were high during this period; some community members were disappointed by the potential loss of the art they loved and took it out on artists. Some artists felt like they were being used or taken advantage of in a way that hit close to home given the current use of generative AI to replace artists in countless industries. And there were also a few individuals who operated in bad faith in order to fan the flames.

Because all of this occurred during the holiday season, we were understaffed and unprepared to deal with the situation properly, and we sincerely apologize for that. We, the staff team, just wanted you guys to know we love this community, and in light of recent communications, we want to do better by you. That's why we're happy to announce we're working on an update to the spriter agreement that should address your concerns. Nothing's set in stone yet, but keep a lookout in #announcements !

Anyways, that's about it. Hope this clears the waters a bit, and we hope there isn't any bad blood anywhere. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the holidays! 10 Year Anniversary Special Announcement! 🎉

10 years ago today, I posted a first version of Pokemon Infinite Fusion on Pokecommunity instead of studying for my finals. At the time, I had no idea that it would become the massive community project it is today, with thousands of artists from all around the world submitting new sprites every day. I really just wanted to play a Pokémon game that allowed you to play with the silly fusions from that Pokémon fusion generator website and since I couldn't find one, I decided to try and make my own. And this is probably my best advice to any aspiring game dev, simply try to make something that you, yourself, want to play and motivation will come a lot more easily.

But of course, the game wouldn't be anywhere near where it is now without the amazing community that developed around it. This is all still very surreal to me and I want to take a moment to thank all of you. Every player, every sprite artist, every modder, every discord member, everyone who watched their favourite streamer play the game, and every single person who volunteered their time and effort to build this community at any point. If you're having sprite problems with the new update, you can fix them by finding the Update man in Pokemon centers and selecting Advanced Options > Other options > Reset Options > Clear sprites cache.

We're adding new Pokémon to the game!

There's an ongoing competition to select the new Pokémon that will be added to Infinite Fusion, with three teams competing against each other to make the most amount of sprites participate in various events to collect the most amount of points!

As the rivalry between Team Ruby, Team Sapphire and Team Emerald intensifies, we have decided to give each of the teams their own private corner to strategize and plot against the other teams to ensure their own victory.

It's official, Woobat and Swoobat will be joining the Pokémon Infinite Fusion Pokédex!

This week, the server reached 750,000 members. This growth has been especially crazy considering that only a year ago we were celebrating 500,000 members. To celebrate, we've prepared a video showcasing a big new feature from the upcoming Infinite Fusion: Hoenn game that we've been working on for a while stare

We are opening up applications for Sprite Managers, Moderators, and staff-helpers!

Sprite Managers CLOSED

As many of you may know, we have recently had several Sprite Managers retired from their positions. We thank them for their years of support and collaboration but now it's time for someone else to fill those shoes! In the past, Sprite Managers have been a blanket role for anything Sprite related but we are now giving Sprite Managers specialties to help evenly distribute the workload!

You will be asked to choose up to two specialties in the application including:

  • Spriter Applications
  • Sprite Harvesting
  • Spritework Checkers
  • Guideline Experts
  • Concept Art
  • Base Handler*

*The Base Handler Manager will manage the upcoming Base Handler Team. We will work with this new manager on putting this team together.

A good Sprite Manager must…

  • Have been a Spriter for at least 90 days
  • Have at least 50 sprites posted into the #sprite-gallery
  • Be an active member of the server
  • Have a good understanding of the #spriting-guidelines and the #spriter-agreement
  • Be able to talk to people and feel confident calling out the actions of others
  • Be approachable and contactable, as they are who users will go to about problems within the server
  • Check the channels applicable to their specialty regularly
  • Be willing to learn how all sprite-related helper roles work
  • Be willing to learn the basics of all sprite manager specialties
  • Be willing to help out other managers, even in other specialties
  • Respond to pings in a timely manner

For the past year, we've been hard at work working on Infinite Fusion: Hoenn, ironing out bugs and making the game as polished as we can and now the first demo is right around the corner. To celebrate that, we're very proud to finally reveal...

🎵 The Official PIF:Hoenn Soundtrack! 🎵

It's not a secret that music has always been a point of criticism for Infinite Fusion 1. It doesn't loop properly, the quality and volume are inconsistent, etc.. And so we made it one of our majoy goals to improve on it as much as we can for the sequel, and we most definitely succeeded!

Every single music track in the Infinite Fusion: Hoenn will be a custom remix of the classic Hoenn tracks you know in the style of the DS games.

Over a hundred tracks, all expertly remixed! These remixes were made by @tough spire who has very carefully studied the every location in the game and recreated the tracks to match their feel and energy as closely as possible. Now, the original GBA games were very limited by the hardware in terms of what instruments they could use for the music tracks and it did compromise the vision of the devs at the time quite a bit. Fortunately, Infinite Fusion is a PC game, so we're not stuck behind these same technical limitations and so for PIF:Hoenn, we're actually able to present them in a way that we believe is how Game Freak originally intended them to be.

It's probably super buggy so make sure to save often, especially if you're playing randomized. This should still be compatible with your previous savefile except if you were playing with randomized trainers (I'm working on a fix for this), but it's safer to start a new game if you want to reduce your likelihood of encountering glitches. [4.5.8] New update patch! The return of reversed mode!
Some of you might remember back in version 3.0, there used to be two available downloads: red version and blue version. Both versions were the same except that the trainers in Blue version had flipped fusions. While it was a cool idea, I didn't continue with it because making two separate downloads each time was a bit of a chore. Reversed mode brings this feature back, but without the hassle of having two separate downloads. It can be enabled at the start of the game or at any time during your playthrough by speaking to the update man on the top floor of Pokémon Centers.

[4.8.6 - debug build] Yo! I hope you guys are having a great holiday season!

This will be a bit different from the usual updates. This is a different version of the previous update that's been somewhat stripped down with the goal of making the game more stable. I would need some of you guys to test it out and report if you're still getting random crashes or not.

Basically I reverted the scripts file to an earlier version and manually added the some of the smaller changes to keep it compatible with the newly added Pokemon. None of the moves and abilities that were added with the latest batch of Pokémon will work in this, but everything else should be about the same. If this turns out to be more stable than the latest release, then I will continue from this version and gradually add the removed stuff back in future updates. If it's not, then I'll have to figure out something else 😉

(This patch also includes a WIP new feature that allows you to fuse Pokémon directly from the PC. It which might not be completely bug-free, but you're free to test it out anyway!)

So we had a trial period for the <@&801491138795536404> role, and personally I think it went as well as an unannounced trial could go, so we're opening it up fully. MikuDab

Helpers are model users. It's our way of making them work for us showing that we notice people. Helpers should be able to answer questions you have about the game or the server.
There's no "Helper adding ceremony" or anything like that. Nor is there anything like a minimum or maximum number. We'll simply give people the role as we see fit, if we feel that that person deserves it and would be good at helping people around the server.

Criteria for receiving the Helper role (does not guarantee it, but puts you in good standing):
Being active and engaging with the community.
Assisting people when they need help in channels like #general and #spriting-discussion.
Getting along with the people around you.

Alternatively we may also recognise if something extraordinary is done by an individual, but the above three criteria are probably your best bet.

It's finally time to officially release the first version of Modern Mode! 🎊

Modern Mode is a patch you can download to change up the IF experience. It changes all wild encounters and trainer Pokémon to focus a lot more Pokémon from later generations. For the trainers we also focused on showing of some of the best sprites that have been made over the years. All Gym Leaders and Elite Four members have been assigned a new type too.
This patch does not add any new Pokémon to IF. It still uses the same regional Pokédex as the base game.
Make sure that you are using Sprite Pack 63 or higher to get the best experience.

How to get Modern Mode:
Download the file attached to this post and unpack it with WinRar or 7Zip. Replace the files in your IF folder with the files in the download.
This will not break your game in any way, so you can also do this during a playthrough.

Little Tip:
If you start a new game while already having a save file, the game will give you the option to choose between the starters from Gens 1 to 4.

[4.9] Hey! I know it's been a while since the last update but I've been pretty busy trying to port the game to the newer version of Pokemon Essentials, which should hopefully improve performance a lot and reduce crashes. It's not yet ready but I have this update in the meantime which finally makes it possible to get the remaining legendaries. It also adds more autosave options so while it might not make crashes completely disappear, it should hopefully minimize their impact a bit. Anyway I hope you enjoy it 🙂

So apparently some people have been saying that since I'm porting the game to a new version of Essentials we'll be able to add more Pokémon. I just want reiterate that this is absolutely NOT the case. The game is already at the absolute limit of Pokemon it can handle (or even already a bit over that limit quite frankly) and a new Essentials version is not going to change that. There will be no new Pokémon added in any future version of the game whatsoever.

Modern Mode v2

Version 2 is out and it is planned to be the final version. This version adds custom trainer sprites for every Gym Leader and Elite 4 member and fixes some errors like misnumbered fusions. We also changed up the encounters on many routes to make some Pokemon easier to get and all of Johto and the Sevii Islands now have new encounters.

To get the best experience in Version 2, make sure that you are using Sprite Pack 64 or higher.

[4.9.0.4] Small bugfix patch. Fixes the Stunfisk crash, fusing from PC and other small bugs I have not kept track of. This will probably be the last update for version 4.9 as it's starting to be a bit outdated compared to the dev build. The next update will probably in the new engine so you can expect some relatively big changes, but it will also be very barebone at first. More to come about this soon.

Weird announcement here, since it's just about the #spriting-discussion channel. If you don't use or frequent that channel, you don't need to read this. You can, but you don't need to.
Discord recently added threads, and we're going to be trialling them in the #spriting-discussion channel to try and clog it up less. Basically, sprites will be posted there and then a thread will be created. This thread will be closed when discussion on the sprite is finished, and no other conversation will take place in that channel. Going to trial this for around a week, probably less time as it shouldn't take that long to tell if it's working. Any messages breaking this format will be deleted during the trial so we can accurately see if it's working or not. This begins now.

Introducing #spriting-guidelines, this channel is full of helpful tips and tricks for new and experienced spriters, providing advice on how to make your sprites look great and match the Pokémon style. We hope this can be a great resource for everyone. 🙂

🦀 Thread update 🦀

It has taken us a while to wager the results of the polls, the individual opinions of users and our own experiences, but we can now announce how the #spriting-discussion channel will work from now on.

For longer discussions of any kind, #spriting-discussion will stay a thread channel, as the majority of users prefered this system over the old one. This means that if you see a sprite you have feedback for, you either create a thread or enter an existing one and deliver it there. If you only have short feedback though, a regular message or an emote reaction in the main channel is totally fine, as long as the feedback is kept short enough to not burry everything else.

However, there are some other things we ask of spriters from now on. Firstly, if you feel like you are not getting a lot of feedback in your thread, we encourage you to make people aware of that fact. That is best done by posting a message in spritework, telling people to check out #NameOfTheThread.

Additionally, to make sure that every sprite gets enough feedback from enough different people, we ask people working in a thread to post a "Is this done? #NameOfThread" message in spritework. The purpose of this is to make people that are not in the thread aware of the fact that you have no more feedback to work with and are about to post to the gallery. This way, we should have more quality control and more people checking out each thread.

There you go, this is how #spriting-discussion works now. We hope this solution pleases as many of you as possible. If you have any issues with any of this, feel free to let us mods know smile

Thread update 2

So far the threads system for #spriting-discussion has been a success. However, it was initially allowed to post messages outside of threads, which causes a lot of bloat. Currently, @fading blade has been deleting messages that are posted outside of threads to keep everything organized and she has been doing a great job, but this is obviously not a viable option in the long term.
So we discussed this over with the moderators and we narrowed it down to 2 options:

1- No talking allowed in spritework outside of threads at all
2-No talking in spritework outside of threads at all and make a second channel for those who want to talk outside of threads

[5.0_Beta1]
Here is the first beta for version 5.0 which finally ports Pokémon Infinite Fusion to Essentials 19. This is NOT the full release but a work in progress, so it is still pretty rough around the edges. There are many, many features that are still missing or being worked on so if you're a first time player, I recommend you download version 4.9 instead. However, this should still be stable enough to playtest. Please report bugs for this version in the new #bug-reports-newest-version channel instead of the regular channel.

The game is still compatible with previous savefiles, but the savefile location has changed so your old savefile won't be recognized by default when you boot up the game. I included a script called "migrate_older_savefile_to_5_0.bat" in the download which will copy your old savefile to the new directory. This creates a copy so you will still be able to use your old savefile in older versions of the game.

There are quite a few changes this time around. Most of them technical changes related to MKXP (the new player that's used to run the game) and Essentials 19, but there are also several gameplay changes. Check out the full changelog down below!

Hi all. You all probably know me or at least have an idea of who I am. I'm probably best known for running the contests here in this server for almost two years now, and I've been a moderator for around a year and a half. I created the sprite requests channel and set the bot up for it, and in general I've done everything I can to try and make this server a better and more efficient place. But I've just been here for too long.
I'll be leaving immediately after this message, off to do my own things in life. Katten will fully take over the contests, alongside whomever is selected via the application form above. I shall miss my time here, but it's time for me to move on. I implore you to submit an application for a staff role yourself, and be whatever change you may wish to see. Once the current application process is done and new mods have been chosen, I'll resign from being a mod. The reason for that is mostly time and motivation. And with such a big part of the staff team going, it kinda feels like passing the torch to a new generation, which sounds just like what this server needs right now.

I'm glad to announce that all of the open positions for the staff team have been filled and that the staff applications are now closed. There were a lot of great applications and unfortunately there were only so many spots to fill so we could not select everyone who applied, but I think that the people selected will make great additions to the team

Starting today, we will be introducing a new "Sprite Manager" role to the server. Sprite managers will act as sort of mentors for spriters, answering questions and helping spriters improve their skills. They are also the ones who will take on the spriting-related duties that were previously handled by moderators such as giving out the spriter rules to new members and ensuring that the spritework process is respected before sprites are posted to the gallery.

In addition to this, several new people will also be joining the staff team as moderators and contest managers. So without further ado, here is the new staff team:

<@&392803830900850688> Hi everyone! Us Sprite Managers have been thinking of a way to enable forgotten sprites to be posted, and we think we've come up with a good system. It'll basically work something like this:

When old sprites are deleted from #spriting-discussion, the creator is sent a notification to let them know and to remind them to post the sprites themselves. If they do not post their work for at least two weeks, their sprites may be edited and posted (with full credit, of course) for them so they can be included in the game.

Currently we have a Google Drive containing all of the forgotten sprites that are yet to be posted, going way back. We'll try and work out what may need slight edits (due to not finishing the feedback loop or not meeting the gallery's quality requirements) and which ones are ready to be posted without editing. Any that are in need of edits will also be sent to #spriting-discussion as normal sprites would, so they can still get that feedback, probably in batches rather than individually.

Dyno will post any finished sprites to #sprite-gallery, crediting their original creators, who did most (if not all) of the work on these forgotten sprites. The posts look like this: #sprite-gallery message

People whose sprites are posted by Dyno will also be notified once the sprite goes up.

If you specifically tell us you do not want your sprites to be posted or edited on your behalf, we will not touch them at any point. Please DM a Sprite Manager to let us know if we don't have permission to post your old work. You can request your sprites to be taken down at any time. The notifications will include this information from now on, too, of course.

We hope this system will work for everyone, and ultimately let some great sprites finally make their way into the game. 😄

I am glad to have been part of the development of this game (unofficially) and this server (officially). Each has grown beyond what I thought possible in the beginning, and I'm excited to see what yet lies ahead.
But life is busy. I've been finding it harder and harder to divert enough time from important real-life things (my fiancé and I bought a house) and less-important personal pursuits (coming soon: SmashCon) to actually moderate this server. I'm reluctant to abdicate my duties, but I'm confident that today's generation (that's you kids) can build on the foundation I've left. I am at long last stepping down. A while ago we announced that sprites posted to #spriting-discussion that didn't make it to the #sprite-gallery may be edited and posted by our dear Deino deino so that sprites could all be included in the game. Here's the post in question: #announcements message

However, we're now streamlining that process! Any sprite that's posted in #spriting-discussion but not posted to the gallery within one week may now directly be added to the following sprite pack! They however will be put in a "No QA" folder, similarly to how joke sprites and doubles are separated. That way, individual users can decide if they want to have the potentially unfinished sprites in their game or not.

Any sprites in that folder will be considered abandoned and be available for people to edit/polish/finish and post to the gallery, so that the sprites can then be included in the main folder.

Some sprites may be included in the main folder as well, if we feel it's good to go already!

All users who's sprites are gathered will be notified of that upon their thread being archived, and will be able to retract permission at any time.
