tschüßii
vielen dank, this was very helpful :)

Reading seems hard enough ; speaking practically insurmountable
OMG @worn harbor THE ADVICE ABOUT GRAMMATIK WAS SO ACCURATE
For some reason @small vigil . It's easier for me to speak with someone that's learning German rather than a native because I guess you worry about mistakes Less since you both might make them
Speaking quickly any road
me too
Where is ticket stuff?
i mean where do you make tickets?
Schönen Tag noch
thank you very much
When's the next session?
Thanks I really loved this lesson
Do u sing too?
gute Nacht und entspanne dich jetzt!
I totally agree with you but natives are good at correcting you
This is true which is why I often text natives . I should call them yes but they oftenly correct me via chat
das stimmt.
I'd need an interlocutor to have the patience of Job if I were to try speaking in German. I couldn't inflict that on any1

Yes we can see it

seconded!
@honest jewel if you have a question ask it here :)

Currently there isn't an exact channel but you can simply get to know people on the server.
as a beginner where I should start the exercises?
can i just enter this practice room anytime
Yes.
I also noticed some study group, can i just join this study group anytime?
Yes

with regards to reading material, is there a place where i can find CFER level reading materials?
thanks
I am aware of some such as: https://german.net/reading/ or https://lingua.com/german/reading/
Thanks so much you've been very helpful. Appreciate it
Quizlet’s a really good flash card app if you don’t have anything physical, you can make your own sets

I think lots of their features are paid these days! I personally recommend anki, if you can use flashcards on a PC (mobile version for iOS is paid)

should I start learning vocabulary or grammar?, I'm beginner
ideally, you should include both of these activities in your learning routine
Quick question, what was the resource that gives you a sentence of a word in context along with its definition? I missed the name, I apologize for that
(I remember it being said it’s a source for intermediate learners, but I was hoping to see if I could find it in advance once I get a better grasp on the language)
Duden!
@tawdry oyster do you have a question? :)
It's lowkey overwhelimg tho
Thank you so much!
I’ve been using this too and yeah it is a loooot lol
faq dictionary
The best way to understand the meaning of a word is to use a dictionary. Monolingual dictionaries such as dwds.de, de.wiktionary.org and duden.de will often provide the most accurate definitions and examples for a word. If you are not yet comfortable with using a monolingual dictionary, bilingual dictionaries are also an option (dict.cc, dict.leo.org, pons.com).
The key here is to empower yourself to find the answer on your own. Using the many examples provided in dictionaries like DWDS, Wiki and Duden can help you confidently understand the word, and how to use it. If you still have trouble; don't worry! You can use #questions, #questions-2 or the #942470380692590632 to ask someone for further clarification.
For online dictionaries, I like DWDS and Wiktionary, for physical dictionaries, Langenscheidt is my absolute favorite

German Learning Experiences
Hi everyone. We're happy to announce a new type of event that we've never run before: a discussion panel on people's experience with German! Speakers will talk for around 10-15 minutes each about their experiences and advice, after which the audience can ask questions. The topics are: experiences with learning the language, such as study techniques and taking official CEFR exams, as well as experiences living, working and studying in German-speaking countries.
We're looking for volunteers from the community to speak at these events. Please sign up using the link: https://forms.gle/QGnG45i2cmw3FoVz5
The European time zone option for the session "German Learning Experiences" has been rescheduled to be 2 hours later than the original time. Check the new time here or in the Events tab to see the new time in your time zone. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Tea time 🍵
Did u learn G @ school or just teach yourself?
How much time is it ideal to spend learning each day? (when studying alone)
I also struggle with the R sound. Did you do anything in particular to learn it or did you just keep trying and trying over and over until you got it?
there are words that are difficult to memorize, any tips ?
Write it down three times, say it three times, read it three times. :)
The vowels sound with pollen and polen, can you repeat that again?
Also learn it in context. It's a lot easier to remember words when you tie them to a text or a sentence, than when you're just learning random words.
Thanks
I like learning vocabulary in sets, maybe that's just personal preference but it works for me.
Based on the topic I'm learning. Ie the body
A very clear explanation on how to pronounce "R" sound in French, German & Portuguese.

Do u learn vocab in context or in isolation?
Context is always better.
Would you recommend learning words by prepositions too? ie words beginning with ab, an, auf @worn harbor
🐄
@worn harbor ich mag reden bitte für sagen wie r aussprechen
Does gender get more guess able as u progress?
hello everyone ..

Thanks a lot
thanks all for the tips

How to sound more likely as Natives do
talk with natives
Will they not lose patience?
watch tv with situations with natives
interact as much as possible
Thank you guys for being so kind.
sometimes 🤷♂️ but you ignore these people because usually they're just stressed and taking it out on you
native speakers on the server will almost never lose patience
they're incredibly kind and they know we will beat them up otherwise 🥊
Can you explain what you mean @viral flame?
LOL
There are quite many dialogues
Dialects?
Etui.
only the place you live or want to interact with
thanks
it's cool if you learn a dialect because germans love ribbing and making fun of neighbouring regions (in germany) hahaha
:^D
so you net social points and integration points by understanding the attitudes and relationships between the towns/cities
I live in austria, austria loves french words bc they're a bit 'fancy' @boreal zealot, your mileage may ofc vary
Engagement for example
When you learn a word, I know you have to learn the Artikel as well, but what about certain words that have weird plural forms and forms in Perfekt, how to do you know whether they end with -en or -t, like, Ich bin gegangen, why does it end with -en?
Sadness.
Yup, thank you!
Thank u all so much
thank you for your time!

do you think online certificates are accepted on germany?
what kind of online certificates?
How did u get the courage to speak with people

I think its most important to not be afraid to make mistakes. The people in this server especially are always super happy to help and see you succeed with german @wintry drift
try your best hahaha
I changed my phone to German,is it gonna help me much or is it just a little help?
for example coursera
I'd say that it depends on what you are applying for. If you are applying for university or something more "official", then no, usually there will be a list of recognised certificates. If you are applying for a job, then of course it depends on the people hiring you, but I'd say that online certificates usually aren't taken as seriously as recognised certificates from exams
It's a small thing for sure, but you add a bunch of small things together and it makes a big difference in terms of immersion
I attend a lot of lessons in german but ı feel myself lack of something when doing kinda things
Espacially cause of english too cause ı try to learn german with english and it s my second language so feels strange
Thank you? What are other small thing I can do to help me to learn german faster and better?
it's going to help you learn some words and a bit of grammar, but it's a very small part of learning the language
im planning to go for ausbildung
Btw your voices are so good and calming thanks
is it easy to get ausbildung?
then you will very likely need a recognised certificate
thank youu
It's good to do things you enjoy, but just in German. If that is reading, maybe try some more basic texts to begin with like childrens stories or some texts from Deutsche Welle
I don't have any experience with Ausblidung. My first recommendation would be to inform yourself about the particular thing you want to study and what the requirements are, since that can vary quite a lot depending on where you apply/where you are from etc.
Ultimately, I've found it's easier to learn the language when you learn it via doing things you already enjoy
And what can I do if I'm stuck with learning and if my course isn't helping me that much
And also is it bad to stay in the same niveau for long time (like years)
Everyone learns differently. For me, formal education wasn't the best approach. The isn't a "one size fits all" approach unfortunately, so it's important to just try a little of everything
Before learning english when i was nine ten years old I used to play sims 3 and learned a lot of words from there and also from minecraft☺️
Exactly! Something as simple as Minecraft was helpful for expanding my vocabulary because you're constantly looking at the words and associating them with pictures
Plus you enjoy doing it
And German, being as popular of a world language as it is, usually is a language option for every big name game
also, the dubbing industry in Germany is pretty big, so you can also easily find dubbed versions of your favorite series
Oh absolutely. Plus German dubs are actually some of the best that exist ahaha
There is a good site for animes but ı dont remember its name
Deutsche Welle: Der internationale Blick auf aktuelle Nachrichten von heute. Dazu Analysen, Kommentare und Einschätzungen unserer Reporter und Korrespondenten.
Thank u all for the presentation
This was one of the resources I was talking about
Deutsche Welle has a section for learning German
And it does have a section for A1 as well
@night grove Any favourite websites on learning more about German markets? (finance stuff)
Yeah,I am really thankful too. This really helped me to realize some things and how to learn it from now on.
I usually use LinkedIn because there are a lot of German companies (the government included) who keep followers up to date on trends
Can apps help me learn something or are they just a waste of time
Depends on the app.
^

I have a couple of them I have duolingo, gramatisch and "der die das" app
Duolingo is a decent resource to start with if you're a complete beginner, but it's neither efficient nor comprehensive!
What Duolingo will teach you about grammar is very limited, and none of the systems they use will help you practise much of it.
You can learn some vocabulary with it, but their method (based on the concept of spaced repetition) doesn't work for everybody, and the way Duolingo teaches is not very effective compared to the amount of time it requires from you.
So, if you find it useful, by all means keep using it, but remember not to fall for its gamification of language learning, and move past it when it stops being beneficial. Ignore the streaks.
In any case, keep in mind that Duolingo is not enough to learn a language, ever.
If you're looking for guidance or alternatives, check out >faq beginner in our #botchannel .
I like Cloze Master as well
cloze master is great for A2(+) level when you already know some vocab and sentence structure
Jumpining into is in the beginning might be a bit overwhelming as it just throws sentences at you in no particular order.
True]
I will soon be b1 level I am finishing a2 and I really don't think that I know german for this level, maybe a level is all about grammar and some vocabulary like my teacher said and that we are really good or is it just that I don't know
Is b level more vocabulary and 2 grammar like my teacher said

I've also technically been learning German for over 7 years now, but 99% of my progress has been in the past 3 years
goofy procrastinator 👁️👁️

I went through some pretty huge changes around the time I turned 18 and figured out how to learn (and had huge motivation as well). But I did procrastinate a lot before that, which was incredibly frustrating
omg me :-D
I started 7 years ago too
That's actually what I"m hoping to do here, like find a group of friends that I can learn with regularly. I know there are practice rooms or study rooms but do we have a resource where we can form a group or like a buddy where one could have like agreed study sessions here?
Not yet, but there will be. In the meantime, you could use #942470380692590632

Thought it is a german lesson lol
My master's degree will be in Germany, but medium of instruction will be English. I'm learning German for visa requirements. What is the minimum level for that?
are we allowed to ask questions ? :3
Thanks
Task (5 minutes): think about your goals (a long term or short term goal) and write it down
Over the week: find ways to use the language. Reading and listening in particular; those seem to be my weak points.
Friday/end of the week: list out all the new vocab and grammar rules I learned in that week
what was the answer please :3 ?
My longtime goal is to be comfortable enough to speak without faltering at every second word, and hopefully reach B level by June.
I see I see
Yeah, weekly schedule was a thing
And at this point I think I just want to study level A 2 and get a certificate for that (because I don't know how much German I need to know for a German visa)
Master's though, and medium of instruction is English
I forget how to speak my own native language once in a while 😂 (my parents correct me in that case)
Yeah fair enough, I mostly meant knowing enough words to be able to express myself without having to stop and think. But I do fumble every language I know so that's pretty accurate.
I’ll soon start living in Germany, so my longterm goal is to reach C, but I’m not sure if I can keep up with a schedule that spans 5 days per week, is anything less than that severely less productive?
To read German literature
i want to do ausbildung in germany (b1)
make this language a part of my life
This is a little random question and I'm not sure if it relates to the lesson
But I was wondering how to incorporate speaking German into the schedule?
I also can't find the confidence to start, so I was wondering what would be the best way to make speaking less intimidating?
I want to be done with B1 by October atleast
Right, so it’s not so much about intense 5-day classes, it’s more about being consistent and getting continuous exposure, even with relaxed approaches. I’ll keep that in mind, thanks
If u leave it too long u'll get rusty
My schedule messed up cause of work, so I am making new schedule today, I wanna go for A1 exam by end of this month
Final Goal is: to translate my book on webnovel to german than continue writing(idk what level i need for that)
Goal: to qualify level A1 & A2 by 2024 June-ish
Following Assimil's German without toil & then trying to read graded readers perhaps
Speaking's sooo daunting
I would do some shadowing
where is pronunciation channel?
#pronunciation
oh gut, i'll make recordings for there from now
im currently on A2 and i want to reach b1 in 4 months but i dont know what smaller steps i should take
You can use vocaroo
Are there good resources for graded listening comps?
I have a long time period for this goal as I am currently learning N5 level Japanese....
So I don't want to overwork myself....

do you watch german movies with german subtitles or german talking?
I have a question, Is it better to study early let's say 10AM-12AM or late 6PM-10PM and is there even a difference?
Ok that's my rough plan for now, I'll make it better tomorrow.
If I put my sched like this,
is this prone to burnout? XD
Depends how nocturnal u r I s'pose
ah ok thanks
I do german subtitles, but when I reach B1 I would stop using subtitles
yeah I was watching in german with english sub and I havent made a lot of progress from it
I find focusing on short clips >longer 1s
thanks!

Is it just me or are there weird noises? Ah probably Base's microphone malfunctioning or something.
There were loud noises and stuff, I don't know where they came from though because by the time I got to my phone they were done.
All good now though.
Did u study German at school or teach yourself?
Ahh no that definitely helps
Oh wow
i guess my problem is with the resource? i follow my textbook and i study the grammar concepts that come along the way, but when I study from other resources, I feel like like I'm lacking the knowledge of some concepts so yeah

I joined pretty late today, I hope you haven't cover my question. I'm a self learner, learnt with a Klett book and Nicos weg. I feel burn out after finishing a level (A1.2-A2.1). So how do you bounce back after some burn out from intensive learning? I tried to take small steps (one Nicos weg per day), watching YouTube or movie in German but feel stuck and stop progressing.
oh yeah feeling, noticing that you're learning more doesn't come automatically while you are infact learning more
💯
Ah I can't wait to look back at my German diary entries a while from now.
Danke schön. Will keep trying:]

Guten Tag/Abend Lehrerin
Guten Abend :))
we will begin shortly!

we can hear
Yes I can hear
laut und klar
bzw?
,bzw' is short for ,beziehungsweise' which means respectively in english
"bzw" is like "etc" in english?
usw.
feels like it doesn't have an exact english equivalent
in this case "oder" seems to fit well
I'm on mobile, how do I watch?
yeah, stages should work on mobile
i can hear now yay :))
Join the stage and click on the right bottom of the livestream, there you can zoom
The shortened version "bzw" is exclusively for informal texts?
BTW thank you TakTak!
Okk, thx
Not really.
this is easy but I’ll still stay here cuz I like it
Stehenlassen und stehen lassen sind laut Duden beide korrekt 🙂
Idk if I accidentally left the stage
so it can mean more "abandon"/"leave behind"
don't see you as a speaker
the verb is so far away from the subject 😂
I am always back at 0
im at -ve, it's okay guys
I got readded. Vielen Dank @boreal zealot !
"ein" should be "Eins"
can you explain the meaning please ?
aone
Exactly what I was gonna ask

es war im Weg aber jetzt ist es weg?
weglaufen
runaway ?
why is there an "Ihnen"?
'Geh weg!' (Go away!)
'Geh den Weg entlang!' (Walk along the path!)
aus dem Weg
i m still wondering if they are looking for a kidtrolly or they lost theirs
aus dem Weg*
Ohh so the series "Nico's Weg" means "Nico's Way", not "Nico's Away", huh. Interesting
My neurons are evolving rn
so it's verschenken
nope
that means nicos lost
thanks
nico's gone
yea
falsch 😱
Nico’s disappearance
So "Weg" can also mean disappearance?
yes
No
No
Man = one
I was just goofing bro
Oh lol
"One" / the more informal "you"
doesnt this mean

call and let us know?
Disappearance would be "Verschwinden"
'One should call..'

Can't be touched
can't be stopped
Can't be move
barrier free
I'll stop
like free entry?
ahh.. accessible
tfw you know the word before the teacher explains it
You get an F for todays lesson.
Flur?
floor?
Boden
wie Gang?
same as floor in english
Honestly big respect for Tak, her English is miles better than my German
Flur = Gang?
Tak is German native, isn't she?
Cool bunny
pusha biceps >>>
this is definitely not street german 😂
Gang should be entrence. Flur is floor, like 1st 2nd 3rd floor.
i speak 3 languages other than english and are not fluent in any
||richitg 🙂 ||
meanwhile tak be teaching her 2nd language with very good english
:one:: richtig
:two:: falsch
Supposedly a Flur necessarily has doors leading off from the sides. A Gang can also just be a passageway.
'Approved by a German.'
3rd language
oh wow
ç
and i was imagining snoopdog is number 1
@steel badger If you would like to read, please put a 'V' in front of your server nickname.
yes
I get your comment now 😂
one eternity later xD
attic
cellar
Dachboden?
I still don't get it lol
OG = original gangster
great session taki!
Genitive was kind of meant for the indirect objects, wasn't it?
I don't think I can ever get my "in"s vs. "im"s right, they just sound the same to me
Der Dativ ist dem Genitiv sein Tod.
possession
Oh- I see
possession
its to show possession
the ' s " we throw in english is the genetiv , tika's lessons , wolfs fangs
the car of the man
in german there is von too
No worriess
woher kommst du taktak?
tip of the day , study polish before german
Krazy
ok study german and never polish
What is this lesson about?
german is so easy compared to our slavic languages
so hard for native english speakers 😭
could you explain daran
daran = an + das
ohok np
da words
compounds perhaps
it's like "thereon" .. a word we don't really use
'Daran denken...' = 'to remember something'
Verben mit prapositionen is the whole lessons , and this part is only a chapter of it
What..?
Squirrel? Squirrel's tail?
i think they mean OG
read it twice you ll see the devil
even a native got a bug
:one:: richtig
:two:: falsch
'zum ersten OG...'
that doesn’t make sense
stock = og ?
der erste Stock , der zweite Stock
who not use 'etage' then?
Etage = Stock = Geschoss
Like french 😮
oui
C'est dingue ça
taking words from their eternal enemies
horrid that the gender changes
toll
not me who's learning both german and french
