Having Controller Issues?
We've just released a big update that involves changes to our controller input system! If you're having problems, check out these Frequently Asked Questions.
You can also check out our Input FAQ and full Input Docs.
I'm using Virtual Desktop, and things aren't working right!
Turn off Virtual Desktop's "Forward Tracking Data" option.
We expect these problems to be fixed in a Virtual Desktop update. Their team is working hard to release a version that fixes the issues you're experiencing. Thank you, Virtual Desktop team!
We'll let you know when their update goes out.
In the meantime, you can use the Beta version of Virtual Desktop. ⚠️ You must update both your Virtual Desktop CLIENT and STREAMER. ⚠️ Only updating one will make problems worse.
Please consult with Virtual Desktop support for more information.
My SteamVR bindings are gone! Can I get them back?
Unfortunately, no.
Old bindings will not transfer over, and you must reset to the default binding set. Using old bindings will not work or will cause problems.
To do so, go to Settings, Controls, Edit Steam VR Bindings. Click "Back" in the top left, then "Activate" on the official binding.
After that, you can re-create your custom binding through the SteamVR UI.
I'm using Vive Wands. What happened to the "Advanced Mode"?
Vive Wands now has two default binding sets available in SteamVR Input settings. We default to the "not advanced" mode binding.
In the SteamVR binding settings, select the other binding. This binding set is identical to the old Advanced Mode.
We are aware of other issues related to Vive Wands. We're working on it!
My fingers look or move weirdly now. Can I go back to how they were?
"How it was before" depends on the controller you are using.
If you use Quest or Touch controllers, you can disable it for all avatars by going to Settings, Controls, and turning off "Avatars Use Finger Tracking". This will revert to the old gesture-matching system.
If you are using Index controllers, avatar creators adjusted finger rigging to look good with our previous, simplistic curl-only tracking. If your avatar looks bad with the new system, you can revert to the old style with the "Legacy Fingers" option. This per-avatar setting can be found in the Expressions (radial) menu, under "Quick Actions", next to Avatar Scaling.
If you are an avatar creator, you can fix this on your avatars using the "Muscle Configuration" window in Unity. The muscle ranges will allow you to set the range of allowed movement of fingers.
My Main Menu keeps opening!
We have a new feature that allows you to open the Main Menu by double-tapping the B button.
You can disable the Main Menu shortcut in Settings, Controls.
How do I open the Action Menu while using finger tracking?
Right now, you cannot. We are working on it!
How do I use Finger Tracking?
Your device and software have to support it. VRChat simply "receives" input (through Steam Skeletal Input), so it is up to your hardware and software to transmit that data.
If you are on Quest 2, 3, or Pro and are NOT connected to your PC (aka: "native" mode or "standalone" mode), your finger tracking works as before.
If you use Quest 2, 3, or Pro and ARE connected to your PC, you can use Virtual Desktop (currently Beta, will be released soon) or ALVR. They can pass finger-tracking data to SteamVR. See this page for more information.
Steam Link does not currently support passing Finger Tracking data.
Quest Link and Quest Airlink do not currently support passing Finger Tracking data.
