This will also make the use of AI voice less controversial in a way. (knowing their mixed reality marketing, I wouldn't put that passed them.)

Vaiiya wasn't active in S1 because "holtow didn't care". The sponsors thought they were small.
S2- CNS fucked em up. Vaiiya was introduced officially

and the battlepass added a few distinct themes like a work office of the finals with cubicals that make me wanna throw up and cosmetics like surveillance eyes and office schedules, keyboards and fax printers.

Basically the staff is more active and both the sides are active.

when we opened the game, before the lobby we got cinematic sequences of the finals behind the scenes of scotty and June talking.

istg all of us were shocked and hyped when those videos dropped. no one expected lore in an esport themed first person shooter and we loved every second of it

and we usually get minor changes in every map during these lore related hidden updates like White Rabbit stickers in Seoul, Music and graffiti in Vegas, Glitching advertisement boards in Monaco on the houses, Glitched corner of some structures in the maps right before the S2 update, "S lies" written on one of the walls of the Monaco construction site.

As we play embark drops lore and we try to figure it out and hunt minute changes in the maps. its fun.

And we also look for clues in the background and in battlepass items and try to form a story with the developing in-game world.

WHO puts in the coin that we hear to respawn? and also, when u get low u can see pixels and hear your player panting in pain, and when you regen, you can hear your player slowly stop panting in pain. am i onto something? it kind of seems that our player is stuck in a reality that can conduct pain. and maybe his eyes are connected to a screen or something like a vr headset with nerval pain.

Oddly enough, I'm very positive that the commentators state that no one gets hurt and that its just a game but given how we hear our own pain; surely it's either voice lines that contestants give to simulate pain or their 'rigs' cause a small level of pain when coming into contact with hazards or bullets. Maybe exclude toxin gas because that wouldn't make sense.

From what I've understood, there are two settings: The Virtual World, which is THE FINALS, and the Meatspace, which is the real world inside THE FINALS. The contestants play the game to earn fame and money, and there are sponsors that promote their brand (Holtow their virtual insurance, Volpe their vr tech, Iseul-T their clothes, Ospuze their drink, and so on). Sponsors can support contestants, and it's been theorized that Scotty didn't actually legitimately earn his fame but rather was used by sponsors as a way to fool contestants into thinking they can become announcers and have unparalleled fame, but it's likely the true purpose is for sponsors to use contestants and their fame to get even more money.

Then enters CNS, a hacking group that is against THE FINALS, and are trying to break into the game and modify it for unknown reasons. In S2, they succeeded, adding in their own map and gadgets, most likely in an effort to destabilize THE FINALS and distract people from sponsors. People have theorized that the Meatspace is a dystopian world, where sponsors control everything, so it would make sense for CNS to be a rebel group trying to take them down by influencing the world's biggest game show, THE FINALS

The official lore says: "THE FINALS takes place about 75 years in the future, roughly around the year 2100. It is the greatest virtual game show on the planet, with a large, global fan base, and considered a window to a bigger world outside of the real one - known as the Meatspace, but most people spend their time in the Virtual World. Contestants join through VR-technology to access the hyper-realistic arenas and fight for fame, riches, and the favor of generous seasonal Sponsors."

Scotty, one of the announcers, used to be a contestant before being promoted to an announcer. One of the game's achievements is "Just like Scotty" where you have to win a match without dying.

In season one, during big updates, Embark added lore intros. They were post-matches commentaries between Scotty and June (the other commentator), and they talk about CNS and how they're hacking into the game, since Holtow and Volpe's collaboration to make the VR tech for THE FINALS is unmatched in security. In one of the intros, Scotty mentions Ospuze suspiciously too much, and June clearly disapproves of Scotty drinking it so much. As such it's been theorized that Ospuze is a drug meant to control the population and keep them submissive.
