Not sure if there's an actual way around it, but I find it less frustrating to force close the game straight after I get the first loading screen - saves me a few seconds and I can just get in without the issue you described. Worth submitting a ticket, so they know it needs fixing

Hi. I need help. Any ideas what I can do please? Sometimes when the game crashes and I return to the game, I can’t complete a task - at least I am assuming that is the cause. For example, Sifuu gave me the key to her room but now it’s nowhere in my inventory. I went with the twins and Zeki to the air temple and I completed it. Game crashed. I’m told to go talk to Zeki to complete e the air temple task which I did, but he isn’t talking to me about the temple.

Npc "keys" are usually just you gaining enough friendship with them to achieve access to their room, no physical key will be present. But for future reference, quest items go into your quest inventory, which is the third tab in your backpack to the right of your ammo pouch. It's labeled with an ❕
For the temple, you have to talk to Zeki inside the temple of the gales, not outside of it.

Jewel wing is always top of pavel mines, I usually find a bunch when I use buzzy jar to find rtb, but I honestly find it hard to see, I often see it only once it gets spooked. Rtb though, I never ever find one when actively searching for it, I just find one when it randomly spawns on or in front of me (happened 3 times) or if it gets called out in chat, which is how I got my 1st

Make sure the game is installed locally vs on SD card,, try power cycling (restart, not sleep/unsleep), walk slow when you’re entering a newly loaded area to let everything render in

Before you run full blast from loading in, take a second or two, stretch and let the world around you load. This way when you jump off the cliff or descend down the path towards the library you’re less likely to crash. It allows everything around you to load in so it doesn’t try to load all at once.

Hi! I need someone to help me confirm the controls for cooking interactions. 🤗 I'm a wiki editor, and recently started updating intermediate ingredients and other cooking related pages. One of the things I'm adding is explaining mechanics/controls, but I play on PC and don't own a Switch.

So can someone please confirm the following:

• A button = interacting with cooking stations (adding ingredients, opening the interface to start an ingredient, and collecting baked ingredients from the oven)
• ZR button = making ingredients aka the minigames (flipping the pan, chopping, stirring and rolling)

I was also told A is used for everything. Found the ZR control in a 1 year old youtube video, and also in older reddit posts so maybe default controls changed?

Oh, I just unlocked cooking a few minutes ago on the Switch so maybe I can help! You do press the A button to interact with it and the A button is the "Make" command. Sadly I don't think I have any minigames unlocked yet so I can't help with that one yet.

A for all the cooking stuff except the "add x ingredient" interraction, which will be X. Never ever used ZR while cooking so idk about that, it's definetely not the default

Ok, just made chili oil dumplings and can confirm that ZR can be used for the stirring, chopping and rolling pin mini games without changing settings, so I assume the pan flip will work with ZR too
Edit: yup, ZR works for pan flip as well. Hold it down and release when the circle is in the middle of the target

Palia is running surprisingly well for me today. I did a complete shutdown and restart of my Switch today for an unrelated issue and it seems to have helped for Palia as well. If you haven't properly turned off your Switch in a while, it may be worth a shot!

You just hold down the power button on the Switch itself until "power options" comes up, then shut it down.

Yeah, that and transferring game data from sd card to internal storage are tricks shared very often here to temporarily improve gameplay. Deleting cache can help too (it doesn't affect game saves, dw)

So unlike hot pot, where you try to make your matches or suits, spam pot is grabbing and discarding cards as quick as you can in order to end the game when the rounds run out… It is believed that you will get more tokens for everybody foregoing actually playing the game.

Personally, not a fan. I actually like to play hotpot. This is just a way to “speed run” a game.

It will also likely lock up your user interface on Switch, not letting you draw cards or do anything, really. That can end up wasting a ton of time anyway. I tried spam pot a few times out of curiosity but the Switch just can't handle that many moving parts it seems.

Personally, I think they should just put a time limit on the game of something like 3 minutes and let you play as many turns as you want within that time, and reward you more for getting good hands.

Problems keep popping up and/or resurfacing, which is to be expected seeing as the switch is old harware and not getting any younger. Devs don't cater to it nearly as much as they should and it shows. Every update makes the game laggier and glitchier, and they then release a hotfix weeks later that only solves some of the problems. A while ago we had a problem where the A button would totally stop working until you restart the game, and when it worked you had to press it at least twice, and it took them over a month to finally release a hotfix, and instead of fixing it it gave the issue to more players. They eventually fixed it somewhat, we still often need to press A more than once but at least it works now. Things like that, you know?

So I still crash if I run into Kilima Village too fast after loading in from my home plot. One fix for that, for me, is to turn left for a little then jump off the ledge and continue into the village. Also, when I returned to the game a couple of months ago, I was crashing constantly, like every 10 mins. Nothing fixed it for me, except for finally connecting my switch to the internet with a cable. Now, I very rarely crash. If you, haven’t tried that, it might be worthwhile to see if it works.

I can completely understand some people connecting to their router. I got a switch because I can't afford a gaming pc and the convenience of being able go play in bed. Also my router is hooked up in the garage (don't ask me why. It was my partners decision.)

I crash so much more now then I did before. I even crash on my own plot. I can't even play at this point with how frequently I'm crashing. I think it's getting to the point I throw in the towel and Uninstall it. I was able to play for 2 weeks with no problems and I fell even more in love with the game, but it's worse now than it was before those 2 weeks. 😮‍💨

I totally understand. I was extremely frustrated when I was crashing constantly because I love the game and just wanted to play, but literally couldn’t. I ended up speaking to one of the IT guys at work about it and how I wanted to try a wired connection, but like you, my router had to be in another room (I live in an apartment and that’s just the set up). He suggested an extender with an eithernet port, which I bought and sometimes it will loose connection, but for me, that that fixed things and I can play for hours without a crash. Idk you set up, but if you think an extender would work for your situation, it did really help me.

I think you can skip 1 day and receive 60 coins the next day. But if you are also unable to receive on the second day, it would be good to talk to support so that you can receive the coins for the days you were unable to receive.

You have to take in consideration that this is not a finished game, it is still a beta. I am fully with you on being frustrated, I have spent well over $100 on this game, but also the switch is very old hardware compared to current gen so that doesn't help. But also the crashing rn is due to the latest update and they're working on it. And apparently a dev said it's cause something on their side needs updating and they'll do that soon. Don't quote me on that though, it's someone else in this channel that said a dev said that in gen chat a couple days ago

We have no idea what's going on behing the scenes, it might be an issue that requires time. Not everything can be fixed at the snap of a finger, geez. For you to say there's no action behind their statement is uncalled for. They're not gonna detail every single step of their process for us, just because it's been 2 days and we haven't seen changes doesn't mean they didn't do anything. They might still be trying to locate the problem, they might be halfway through fixing it, who knows?

I get the frustration, everyone knows they keep leaving us switch players in the lurch for weeks or even months when a bug or problem affects us while pc players almost always get instant fixes, and of course I'm mad about that too. But it doesn't mean that when they litterally say they're working on a problem you can go around after 2 days saying they lied and aren't doing anything. You gotta give them the time to figure out what the problem is and then fix it. It's super annoying cause the crashing makes the game unplayable rn but we have to deal with it. The problem might be buried deep within the code, it might be a tiny mistake in a line somewhere, or it might not even be code related and be something else entirely, but whatever it is they're working on it. Aslo it's the weekend so even though it would suck for us it's totally possible their office might be closed for the weekend and they'll start tackling this more monday

I’m not here tossing around words like “liars” or “fraud,” but if the shoe fits—selling broken goods without fixing the root issues—it’s hard to argue against the vibe.

If they’d just refund me for these purchases and yank the items back, I’d stomach it and move on. It’s not only about the bugs; it’s my money, and that makes it personal. Accountability matters. Yea, they have lost more than half their employees. Yes, it takes time for them to solve the issue but most of the issues have been here for months and when they do get “fixed” they end up getting broken all over again in a different patch. I’m having an issue. Maybe don’t if I don’t understand the decor and flower limits. I have visited so many plots there is so many flowers and decors and sometimes even a couple of homes. I tried to add plant more seeds and it was counting them as part of my decor that it went to my 3,000 decor limit . my limit in flowers was way below. I had to remove flowers and put on other plots, which they already have. now I am afraid to continue projects on other plots. please help, ty I will appreciate it.

What atm seems to work for me for not crashing in kilima is to load in from housing plot. And open accomplishments and just scroll through there (let the map load in?) and then slow walk

It makes sense why there’s less crashing in Bahari than Kilima; there is a larger concentration of objects to load in at once in the village compared to the spread-out nature of Bahari Bay.
I’m assuming the environment is the same across both platforms and all the little trinkets inside each of the buildings (e.g. small lamps/individual books in the library) take time to load.
If only there was a way to disable the smaller assets to prevent crashing, but that would probably require a bit of dev time.
That being said, they’ll probably shrug it off and say “just get a switch 2, they announced it today”

Same, honestly. Apart from a few update that caused more frequent crashes like this last one, I would usually rarely crash when playing. Lag? Decent amount, yes. Loss of textures/blurriness on outfits? Very often But not much crashes.

If they think they have issues now just way till the Switch 2 comes out. My opinion is they'll lose the Switch players, simple. From the trailer, the Switch 2 is offering some epic games that will leave Palia in the dust so Palia needs to fix this or be forgotten with their issues. Don't get me wrong I've been playing since it came out on the Switch and love the game, but the crashing is descouraging me from playing. The rest I can handle.

I'll also add they have to modify the game to make it compatible to play on the Switch 2. Just a guess. Could cause even more issues.

It’s most likely number 2 honestly. Don’t get me wrong it does suck that they hardly ever give us switch players an update but they do fix our problems even if it takes a few weeks or months. It may take years but it will be worth it. At the end of the day, it’s just a game and S6 are only human. They have their limits too

I am newer to this game and don't get me wrong I LOVE it and play everyday or pick it up frequently guess that's one positive of the switch is the handheld console I enjoy, but lately I'm starting to think switch players have a different gaming expirence in many ways compared to PC and we're kinda getting the short end of the stick here. First off I wanna say I am in NO WAY stating PC players aren't having some of the same problems we all are but there's so much glitchiness after this update it's over frustrating now. When I go to my plot to cook now I can chop 2 to 3 ingredients I get frozen and can't get out, unstuck doesn't work and placement mode nothing. I have to completely reboot from the home screen and it also wastes the items used and shows up as ruined food, is this happening to anyone else!?! Also when I'm hunting a creature will be a few meters ahead running then glitch totally somewhere else relatively far away or a different direction then disappear all together. I love hunting and this has been going on since about a month in of playing so not a new problem but has gotten worse. Now also since this update my switch is no longer vibrating at all which I enjoy using during fishing and all my settings are correct. Also lately I feel as if I'm running so so so much slower than usual and just again all around glitchy/poor graphics/slowness errors. Is anyone else expirencing the cooking or running issue

This is how us switch players have to play bcuz they never fix it for switch. They say they do or will but unfortunately you will find out this is the way it is for us, and only gets worse. PC was crashing and some still are for a couple weeks and they are falling over themselves to fix it, or seemed to be. Mind you none of this is meant to be ill willed towards pc players, it's not their fault.

I dont think palia get fixed anyway but discontinued for Switch1. Around 20 People work on the Game (low number on code/ experience), Content not ready, already shop buyout in sales (absolute discusting behavior if u bought it full price a month before). Merch not delivered for the coffee stuff.

I played for about 5 hours straight, and only crashed once in Kilima, which I consider a miracle. The devs didn't do any maintenance on the Switch, but somehow what they did yesterday seemed to help in some way. It could be my luck too. All I know is that if it continues like this I'll be happy, the game was running very smoothly with a few freezes. I'll play it again later, I hope it's as stable as it was today.

Someone told me to come provide feedback here, regarding Switch crashing often.
I think there are some pre-fetching issues, and all of the crashes in my experience were on the town map, opening the map, or loading into a populated zone.

1. Open Switch settings on the home screen and move data (storage) FROM SYSTEM to External SD (assuming you have expanded storage) and make enough room to fit the entire Palia game in the SYSTEM storage, not extended.

It appears that SD Storage (external) causes MOST of the crashing issues, but there's still an obvious pre-fetching / loading issue on the Switch.
Hope this helps.

Hi yes! I was also a part of that. And on switch… I was manually saving every 2 minutes as I was crashing every 5 minutes, eventually it got better, and with time the game was more stable. I believe it is now in open launch/soft launch phase which I believe is still technically late beta phase in game development, where you invite anyone to play with the conditions the game is still in development but has passed its initial alpha and beta testing. I believe when it was pushed to the switch in August or September of last year, was when this new phase began. I read somewhere on this discord after lurking and deep diving that they were leaving beta and moving towards this phase somewhere but I cannot for the life of me find it.

I had the same problem with the chat. Make sure on the switch settins the time is correct and matches the time that its supposed to be. Thats what i had to do to fix it

Oh and for those who are havin crashes goin to killuma, what works for me is wait till 1am and go into town and youll just have to speak to the characters through their bedroom doors but itll work for some. No prob Aridi, there's lots of helpful Palians in here but the official wiki helps too;

For now, once you're on your housing plot, press down on the left joycon stick (aka joystick, the wiggly one) and it should switch to an overhead view of your land.

After that press the x button and the blueprint for your house should be at the top of the list, then you press A to select it and it should give you a preview you can move around.

Once you've picked the perfect spot, press A again and it will plop it down.

*Press down on the joycon stick till it clicks, if you just hold it down like you do to walk it won't pull it up

Do you play docked or handheld? The Switch throttles the CPU and GPU when running on battery. Being connected to external power will improve performance.

I’ve heard that the game will have cross progression between the versions, but if I were to switch between my switch version and the Xbox version when it releases, does my party stay intact or do I have to invite that friend to a party again? You can play cross platforms already. I am able to invite people from pc to play with me all the time.

If you’re switching, I would recommend leaving your party (and even any time you log off) so you don’t get stuck in a party glitch where your party shows up as you’re in one but it’s kicked you, or you can’t leave and it shows you’re not in one. Which requires either waiting for it to fix itself or hard relaunching the game

But switch players will be able to play with computer players, Xbox and PlayStation players.

I'm truly happy for everyone who will get to play elderwoods, but switch players are not gonna be able to I'm sure. I can't go to kilima or do any of the quests given in the last year or so, and now I can barely go to bahari let alone do anything there. I'm probably never gonna see elderwoods 😭 It's so frustrating, especially when they say they have fixed switch issues. All that has happened for me is that it has gotten worse.

I'm sorry you're still having problems, but I think your experience is not what other players are having. I haven't seen that many complaints anymore. I'm playing with stability myself. Have you tried installing the game on the Switch's internal memory? Have you checked if your Internet connection is at a good speed?

Completely what Ms. Tinna said.. I do not want to invalidate your experience but it has improved over the last couple months, so I would urge you to look a little deeper into troubleshooting, as the general consensus is that the fixes are working.
I have been in some of the most difficult and stressful switch bugs that made gameplay extremely taxing and frustrating, and we’ve seen it way worse than the Kilima crash at the gate. (Imagine crashing anywhere, randomly, not being able to pick up loot at all, etc.) plus they are working actively in the game on fixing these problems before elderwoods— they rolled out another quick fix yesterday which should continue to enhance your experience.
It may also be good to run an internet speed test next to your switch to see how your connection is faring, play docked to your tv, and then following the troubleshooting instructions I’ve posted in this channel directly from s6.
👉👉Additionally, it is also good to let us know exactly what you’re experiencing so we can try to help or validate if we are also experiencing those problems or conditions, as one offs are player errors that when in doubt should be submitted as a support ticket; and whether we have work arounds for these things. We would love to help where we can.
👉👉Support Tickets are significantly crucial right now as they are actively working on patching holes and stamping out bugs right now, so if you don’t tell them something isn’t working for you, it may get overlooked and your experience won’t change or improve.

Have you tried periodically powering down your switch when done playing that session vs. putting it into sleep mode??? Powering it down allows the Switch to clear out the RAM and other cached gameplay stuff.

Oh no! I am sorry you’re having issues with the game still. Kilima is very frame rate for me when I initially load in, I’ve had pretty good luck with entering and going left and slowly going down the hill and hooking to the right to enter the main village shops. Lots of stuff loads in Kilima at once. It’s always worst for me if I dash straight in and glide down the cliff into the village

One thing is that the Switch has to display the other players and their outfits. Do you play docked/plugged in or hand-held? When running off the battery, the Switch will throttle its CPU and GPU to extend battery life. That will reduce performance.

The fps can cause immense lagging, especially while your switch is trying to load all the graphics and dynamic objects that are happening— think about going to find a gossamer veil moth and you’ve already spooked it before it shows up on your screen….

I like to party a lot with friends and they’ll be shooting animals I don’t see yet and I’m literally 🕴️ and then the loot shows up. I usually just do what I can and try to make the best of things. Going back to my plot, spending a little time refreshing my garden or processing my loot, and then trying again usually gives my switch a break and time to “catch up” especially when the switch starts screaming (not literally, just the fan goes off)

There has been immense increase in the amount of stability the switch is handling with this game but I’m also experiencing this on other games too (not just Palia). It can be frustrating absolutely, but I’m usually in my hashtag #CozyGaming mode so I usually just power through things and let things load around me.

I hear what you’re saying and I want to help as best as I can because it does sound like you enjoy the game.

The other thing I would check is your internet speed, speedtest.net can give you an idea of where your download and upload speeds are sitting at and if they’re super low, is your modem close enough? Would you benefit from using an Ethernet cable directly from your modem to your switch?

Another thing you can also try is archiving a bunch of games that you’re not playing, just to free up some physical hardware for your system to run comfortably.

Otherwise, I just hope you’re able to keep your hopes up and do your best and I hope everything gets better for you

It’s hard to really say anything other than the switch is an inferior console when it comes to CPU, so honestly the game is doing the best it can with the console it’s working on.

My wife and I play docked and we had 3-4 great days last week, then all of a sudden, we get the red boxes telling us not connected to server and get booted roughly every 7-10 minutes.

I also feel like something is off with beacon but can’t put my finger on it— it’s not like before were we had outages that booted us all off servers at the same time and then the game went down, but it does feel off. Maybe they’re upgrading servers to make room for other games that are seeking their services too? Without fully knowing that, I can’t really say— just speculate that the beacon is slow.

Unrelated, but related— the Switch also has a habit of getting off time by a single minute so good to check your clocks that they’re synced to the internet by unselecting sync to internet time and then reselecting sync again.

A little advice, don't buy it, I have the Switch and the Switch Light, the Light doesn't handle it, it gets very hot, it eats up the battery quickly too. The graphics are already not good on the Switch, on the Light it's worse because it has a smaller screen. For other games it's great, but for Palia I don't recommend it.

I have a regular switch and the game is unbearably slow. Loading times, lag. Lag. Lag. Lag while hunting and catching bugs and fishing. Npc walking lag, dialogue lag. Environment objects loading lag. I will be going overseas in a few weeks and I was planning on bringing my switch lite with me instead of my oled. I linked my Nintendo switch account to the lite and was trying to download the games in there. It’s saying I need to download the virtual game card so I could transfer the save data from Palia and ddv but I still want to be able to play on my oled without issue. It also says for the game card that it will only last for 2 weeks when I need it to last two months. If anyone can help, then that would be great as I haven’t really tried the new virtual game card and wanna make sure there aren’t any issues.

Yeah, creatures sort of blink-teleport and clip into things a lot. On the bright side, it does mean that proudhorns are only slightly more difficult than other sernuks, because they sort of do the same thing.

well, the proudhorns are super easy if you're using the hunting horn. it'll track the magic ones until they are taken down

it also tracks the magic muujin, but can get super confusing when 3-6 of them jump out of the same tree at once

They used to be on the cliff in Thorny Thicket where the grove spawns, and another cliff towards Statue Garden that they couldn't escape/run which made them easier for some players to kill.

If you have a lot of decor in your storage, try placing them on an empty Housing Plot (called a garage plot or IKEA plot). You character data includes everything you have in storage, so too many things cna cause you to time out.

You should have a second Housing Plot in storage. Open the Housing Menu by hitting “H” or clicking your left joystick (Switch). At the top is a pulldown menu where you can move between Housing Plots. At the bottom of that menu is the Add New Plot option. To get more, buy them from Kenyatta’s cash register at City Hall.

If retrying doesn’t work, you’ll probably have to reinstall the game. If you have the space, storing the game on the built-in storage can improve responsiveness.

Logged in for the first time in a bit and see that they removed the option in setting to turn off chat. I was hoping that with all the ‘improvements’ the feature would actually work now, but I am glad they removed it if they couldn’t make it work. It was frustrating to keep trying to turn chat off so that my switch wouldn’t crash so much but every time you go to a new area it would reset and chat would be back. 😆 I hope they figure out how to make that option work and can put it back as an option. I have a switch question I play palia on my switch but every so often my switch disconnects from the server during palia. Is that a switch problem or a palia problem?

Main menu -> collections. You can find the stickers you have and select which ones you want in the 'emote wheel' then
L1 -> and change between poses, stickers and clothes with L2/R2, select the sticker you want with right stick
That's from memory, user experience may vary

no, we're less than an hour from the scheduled end of maintenance and the download is semi available - it's there on steam and folks have been able to push it from the xbox mobile app

they have extended downtimes beyond the schedule before - one time for a real long time - but they've also shortened it. Hopefully thins went relatively smoothly this time and the had built in buffer time for it to take and extra hour or two
