For SAVORY things specifically, the profit parties are:

• fish dishes with rare, epic, or legendary fish: fish stew, sashimi, sushi, poke bowl (and arguably fish tacos but those are annoying in a party). As long as the fish they're using has an unstarred sell value of 400g+, it's equivalent to cake money or better. Fish stew may be a good choice since all it requires is garlic (buyable) for overprep. For sashimi or sushi, you CAN buy rice from the farm stand, but double-check that the party allows unstarred rice (it's also a bit expensive to do this, so I'd recommend only doing so for epic or better fish)
• bean burgers, which are worth a bit more than cakes. You can buy milk (cheese role) or garlic; or I suppose you could buy stuff for the vinegar roles (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise). There are also several free roles.
• muujin Bahari, if you can find a party, but those tend to be very very slow and hard to keep organized. It does have spice sprouts and garlic roles, though, which are both buyable.

All of the recipes that use apples produce sweet items.

I tend to use cakes as the baseline for a profit party. If it's not generating more revenue than triple-apple cakes per round, or if it's the same money but slower... pass. XD

Specifically it's based on unstarred sell values of the ingredients (not rarity, which makes folks using ancient koi for fish dishes somewhat unfortunate), with some exceptions/anomalies.

Generally speaking, XP per dish scales with the number of minigame steps the recipe has - with some exceptions.

Cake parties are best for XP per time, especially if you can find a fast/efficient one, because they have three of the same step chain happening at the same time. The only 2 recipes that give more base XP per round are muujin Bahari (typically much slower than cakes, ~1.5 min/round) and lucky braised fish (minimum 2 min per round)

(Burgers actually give slightly less XP than they should.)

Oh, er, keep in mind that that advice was for cooking parties not for solo cooking.

Since recipe XP scales with # of minigame steps, and as a solo player you have to do them one by one, it's not faster to do more complex recipes.

If you're trying to grind cooking levels solo, the fastest (albeit somewhat expensive) method is grilling excess fish (including ogopuu meat) on a set of 4-6 campfires. Regular grilled meat also works.

Otherwise, the better strategy is just to cook whatever focus food you would normally make for yourself.

Well I did some research and got the recipe again.
The wiki page says Bahari Rivers no bait, but its not quite true as the map on wiki doesn't show little pond near Tamala's house as Bahari Rivers fishing spot. Apparently that pond counts as Bahari Rivers because I got the Sashimi recipe from there literally on the second reel.

It allows you to use star quality ingredients, but if you have zero qualifying star quality items for any of the ingredients, it will still let you use your unstarred ones for those.

Be careful, because ingredient variables like "any fish"/"any mushroom"/"any spice" etc. will use anything they find that is starred in your backpack OR storage that fits the bill. I've seen folks lose star-quality fancy fish, starred brightshrooms, and starred dari cloves and heat root on a cheap recipe due to this. Make sure anything you don't want used by accident is in your lockbox.

(or, with fish and crabs, you can place starred ones as decor items and get them out of the way that way)

cooking parties are the fastest way if you're open to cooking with others! otherwise just stocking up on a lot of your preferred focus or putting 4-5 campfires in a circle and grilling meat and unstarred fish

I need to do the math on how much focus you get per growth tick and then how much processing time, but the most cost-effective preserves are back to being starred pickled carrots and tomatoes (70/105⭐) focus), with blueberry jam being next (120/180⭐).

Not that ANY preserves are cost-effective right now. They're all about 2 focus per gold eaten (about double buying food for gold from Reth, not that that's saying much) or about the same if you're taking opportunity cost ("what if you turned them into their best solo processing option") into account.

Smoothie bowls are very high focus per minigame step, and if you're using starred fruit have a high star rate as well, but they are very expensive for focus amount -- they use as much fruit as a celebration cake for less than half the focus.

The new campfire recipes will probably be what you want, in this case. Most of them seem to be between 3-4 focus per gold eaten, which is around the same as cakes. (Cakes are kind of my bar for "this is terrible but if it works for you, then it's not as bad as it could be")

Beans on toast and Rice 'n Beans are the only campfire recipes that give any kind of reasonable focus amount and that require only garden and General Store ingredients, so far as I can tell. Rice 'n beans is likely to be a lot worse for opportunity cost, too (3 rice and 3 beans and a spicy pepper... ouch), for a very small increase in focus per dish.

So... if you're gonna campfire, SO FAR (further analysis pending), beans on toast is the way to go. Probably.

But solo-cooking more complex dishes is still more cost-effective (if naturally less time-effective), and of course cooperative kitchen cooking only improves things, since you split the cost, time, and effort.

The main argument for rice n beans is that rice grows faster than wheat, but... triple beans... 😬

There are recipes that require few ingredients or less steps, but they are not that focus efficient. The more focus they give, then the more steps they require. Thus it takes more time. If you want focus food in good amounts that gives good focus, I suggest joining a cooking party. You can find some at #1445866314949202012

If you check "use starred" it will permit you to use your starred ingredients. (Put your starred sweet leaf in lockbox if you don't want to use it for this and it will use unstarred instead)

The only way to get unstarred fruit at high gardening levels is ranching ferrises and Kilima/Bahari rummage pile RNG.

It seems like the most reasonable options of the new campfire recipes are:

• Beans on Toast (225/337⭐)
• Heather Tea (60/90⭐)

Neither of them is very cost-effective in terms of focus per opportunity cost, but they're much better than the campfire options we had previously, since they are higher focus per dish and produce 3 items per craft.

They are both around 4 focus per gold eaten (compare to 6.6 focus/gold for steak dinner), and 3-ish focus per opportunity cost (compare to 4.86 for steak dinner).

Do note that the base star rate for campfire cooking is a bit lower: somewhere between 25 and 50% IF you're using all unstarred ingredients. Star rate increases proportionally with the total unstarred sell value of the starred ingredients you are using.

That said, I expect that Beans on Toast will have a star rate north of 95% if you are using all starred beans, wheat, and tomatoes (only butter unstarred).

You need to plant crops in a ratio of 1 bean plant to 13 wheat plants to 3 tomato plants to have enough wheat for beans on toast. More analysis/comparisons on that here: #🌱│gardening message

since you're asking for beginner friendly dishes so likely not expensive fish dishes.

i personally would recommend cake parties but with less rounds for beginners as there are multiple free roles, sweet leaf roles which are easy to collect, buyable ingredient role which for a party with less rounds is obtainable, and then there a few roles that need fruit but people are happy to join beginner friendly parties all the time

but definitely hear out what ren has to say too!

For profit foods:

Unfortunately, pushing up the dish sell value generally requires either using rare/expensive ingredients (fish dishes, anything with vinegar or Dari) or cramming in a LOT of steps (cakes), or both (cakes with apples).

If you don't have a base of fisherfolks (which would enable fish stew), then I agree with kiah that cakes are the next best option, but you'll need more people to cover the apples, batter, etc.

I don't normally recommend bean burgers as the vinegar is prohibitively expensive and the star rate suffers, BUT it doesn't require anything level-gated, so it might suit in a pinch, if you've got folks who can rotate through the vinegar roles.

That said, when you're new and really very cash poor, even fish stew with common/uncommon glow worm fish from Kilima/Bahari/Elderwood can be a significant return on investment for the folks chopping garlic. (And if your luck is bad... I'd go after eleroo eels XD 14% drop chance with glow worms!) Any fish under 400g unstarred/600g starred isn't really worth the time investment to cook it after the first little bit, though, for groups

For focus food for VERY new Palians:

• Hearty vegetable soup (mushroom OP - take 'em to Elderwood! lol) and/or Palian onion soup (garlic OP) if their max focus is under 400 or so; OR fish stew with ogopuu meat (garlic OP), if you have that to clear out. The starter bears most of the cost, so it's a good way to help out.
• Steak dinner if they're a little bit upgraded, but not too far (225/337 focus)
• Once they have at least 425 max focus, stuffed cabbage rolls. Super simple recipe, requires only easy-to-get ingredients, very high star rate/very forgiving on the timer.

DS also makes an interesting point -- king crabs have some silly spawn rate from shells (25%??) in RH and are worth a bit more than vampire crabs. You could set up a rotary party (everyone brings 10 crabs, for example, and does a different role the rest of the rounds). Any dish that has a Chopped Red Meat variable can use crabs, too, and ones with Chopped Any Vegetable can use flowtatoes, of all things lol

Unfortunately, even with all that, those dishes are still worth less than cakes, and the learning curve is steeper (have to be pretty good at navigating the UI/avoiding UI jump/managing inventory) -- or else you risk accidents tanking the sell value.

30 rounds is pretty good in my experience. Less than that is too little to be worth the organizational overhead, but 1 stack of something is easy to manage for most :)

For the chop-and-stir soups, yes, as they only have one ingredient on the prep station.

For cabbage rolls, I recommend that they sign up for carrots or cabbage or the free mix. (Unstarred carrots are just fine for focus food)

!cakeparty Cake parties are basically cooking in groups - everyone who does at least one step of the recipe gets the full food, so it's a way to get food quickly and cheaply. Usually, everyone has an assigned step, and you'll need to bring the ingredients necessary for that step. You don't need to have the recipe unless you're the person tasked with starting it. Usually, that's the party host.

if you don't mind being a little under tomato soup and steak dinner are both quite quick and low ingredient recipes!

stuffed cabbage rolls are also another great option that have a higher focus amount!

if you're willing to put in a little more time joining a cooking party for focus food is another great way to use little ingredients and get a good amount food stocked up!

definitely try tomato soup! you do have to stir once during the recipe, but that is simpler than flipping and once you hit max focus definitely look into stuffed cabbage rolls as there's no flipping or stirring!

I think I have gotten something terribly wrong with the royal food taster achievement. I was always under the assumption that eventually, once I discover all campsites, I would have found all recipes in backpacks but instead backpacks have been giving me materials and amber and I'm still missing these three recipes. Could someone please let me know if it's bugged or are the recipes just RNG? Q: Is there an absolutely humongous difference between all focus food acquisition methods?
I'm looking for focus muncher all real-life day playing - with no retiling of random spots  if multi-crop gardening or brain twisters.

Saw the What to Eat + B&T planting ratio albeit IDC about opportunity cost, only about not going negative and saving inventory space.
I can't find something that breaks down all possible sources and variables and I've not got the mental bandwidth to compile that (from forage + ranch only dishes to selling 19.5k worth of bok choy for focus dishes/their ingredients, solo vs party cooking, to no hunting or fishing without accounting for costs, and anything in between).

If anyone got any links or a TL:DR...
