Depending on your gardening level and what recipes you have acquired as well, Starred Chili Oil Dumplings are a quick/easy one to make and only require oil to be purchased, the rest of the items can be grown in your garden or foraged/hunted for. I used those for a long time and they give 525 focus per.

depends on what you're after! if it's money, then yes, cooking parties (specifically legendary poke bowl parties.) there are also foods you can make (sushi, sashimi, etc.) that will give you a buff while fishing. fish anything (even just grilled fish) will give you a bigger worm output in your worm feeders, i think? and i think generally fish recipes aren't great ROI as a focus food.

you do not technically have to bring anything in your personal inventory, it can also be in your storage, since you have access to your storage regardless of whose plot you're on! but you only need to have the ingredients (if any) for the single role you sign up for. the sweetleaf does NOT need to be starred either!

Lowest effort bang for buck is canned beans, which are shockingly efficient compared to the other preserves (though still not amazing).

Otherwise, steak dinner has only 4 ingredients, and only one of those is from the garden, leaving you more room for cash crops, if that's your thing. The rest are buyable or easily gathered. For solo cooking, it's what I recommend, but the What to Eat spreadsheet here has more analysis if you are interested in seeing all the options:

if you're atleast lvl 9 cooking, make Celebration cakes! huuugee exp, like 500+ per craft. I just spam crafted them till I got to level 15!
For all the flowers except the Elderwood Lilacs, take the ones you have and plant them in your lot. When they mature they will drop seeds. Plant the seeds, pick up the full grown flower, rinse and repeat to you have all you need. Cottonball flower drop was the WORST for me so that's how I was able to get my full set.
I recommend hunting for ogopuus scales in a group! It seemed like they dropped better? But the green Ogopuus were just so much easier to kill with a party.
The emerald and quartz is just a copper hittin grind friend, no tips for that lol.

Emerald can also be found in Silver and Quartz can easily be obtained by mining Clay and Copper

So, for some reason I don't understand, the recipe tooltip values frequently don't line up with the actual sell values of the dishes.

Sometimes this is because the dish values vary when there is a variable ingredient (like "any vegetable" or "any fish"), but even then (e.g., with Celebration Cake), it doesn't always line up with any known expected value.

However, you can typically predict the sell value of a dish using a formula (0.375 \* [sum of unstarred sell values of all ingredients] - yes, even if you use starred ingredients)

In the case of pumpkin recipes, though, I suspect that it's because any recipe that has Chopped Pumpkin as an ingredient is leaving out the value of the pumpkin - which is a BIG chunk of value at 88g each. So the dishes end up worth much less than they should be.

Other ingredients that behave this way (count 0 toward the dish sell value) include kopaa nuts, cabbage, bok choy, green onion, and ginger.

Take pumpkin pie, for example...

The ingredients are...

• butter 20g
• pumpkin 88g
• spice sprouts 23g
• 3x wheat 33g each
• milk 15g

Sum of the base sell values is 245g. Multiply that by 0.375 and round down, you get 91g.

...and it still doesn't match the tooltip. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I have no idea why. Maybe originally the recipe included some other ingredient? The difference in ingredients would be 43-44g, so it's hard to say what it would be.

Buuut subtract the 88g (the pumpkin) from the sum up there, and the adjusted sum of ingredient base sell values drops to 157g. Multiply that by 0.375 and round down, you get 58g unstarred. Since starred things are worth +50% more than the base value (rounded down), that's the 87g starred pumpkin pie you had in your bag.

i start the recipe, you look at the ingredients list above my head to see which ingredient i’m working on (shows as … in the ingredients list) and start working on a different ingredient, we go back and forth, and as long as you’ve done one interaction (like even just putting something in the oven), you’ll get the food when it’s finished. just do whatever you’re comfortable with, i have every ingredient so if you’re missing something, i’ll do it. you need oysters, right?

You might be looking at the "ongoing" parties section, which for cooking parties you can generally ignore. Make sure you are looking at the Scheduled section, which has parties with start times in the future

Usually those have either already started or they were some time ago. For some reason, PPA doesn't let you set an end time on a party, and if you don't delete a party or mark it as private, it will stay on the front page indefinitely, last I checked.

Yes, the game prioritizes materials in your inventory over ones in your storage unless you specifically use the ingredient selector (example: #🍳│cooking-foraging message ) to use something else.

from the Galdur Statue reward for completing the Vault of the Earth bundles in the Temple of the Night Sky. You also need to complete the follow-up quest "The Gardener's New Oneness" before you can get flow tree seeds from it. There is about at 25% chance of your daily seed from the statue being a flow tree seed (4 varieties); otherwise it's one of the 4 regular tree varieties in Kilima and Bahari.

The seed is once per RL day; daily reset is at 4AM Monday morning UTC, or <t:1757304000:t> in your local time (on either Sunday night or Monday) - at least until DST ends

This is only visual - the "Current Job" doesn't indicate the star quality, but star quality produce will always produce star quality results (and, very very VERY rarely, a bonus unstarred one)

The reverse is true, however, in case that needed to be said :D If you check "use starred" it permits using starred ingredients, but will use unstarred if there are no starred ones in your bag or regular storage

In case it's helpful in the future: if you have no unstarred apples it will say you have none initially (because without the box checked it ignores star-quality stuff), but if you check "use starred ingredients" your starred ones should show up ACTUALLY sorry nope, it's doing the same thing for me, that's a bug for sure

Ah, it's because the recipe needs 3 beans and you only have 2 starred. Unfortunately it can't mix them for steps that need all 3 together. Try putting your 2 starred beans in safe storage and see if that fixes it :)

How does a cooking party work? Explain it to me like I'm dumb because I'm missing something. I've seen some say they're making a million coins a day! How do I do this?

so basically a cooking party is where you sign up for a single role/step of a dish, go to the hosts plot, and then when the party begins you repeatedly do that role until the number of rounds are complete (often 50-100). once all of the rounds are completed you are able to sell all the dishes you made and make a lot of money quickly. a single role meaning like mixing sweet leaf, chopping garlic, rolling wheat, chopping meat, etc!

i recommend joining an already organized cake party to start :) the wiki has a guide that explains them https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Guide:Cake_Party

i also recommend taking on a free role such as the ovens or spreaders to start, and then try other roles from there!

How does the game decide what fish to cook with when you make an 'any fish' dish? I know you can select a specific one, but if you don't, how does the game pick?

Not forageABLE items, but there are the foraging furnishings (koi pond, stump planter thing) and also assorted furnishings that have mushrooms on them (a few in Moonstruck and Umbraan) perhaps? tbh foraging (lumberjacking) is a very large chunk of furniture crafting in general. Unfortunately, the only trophy item that drops is amber, and there are no starred amber varieties (at least, not yet)

IF "use starred ingredients" is checked, it...

• looks in your bags for starred items that match the criteria
• looks in your storage for matching starred items

If it finds ZERO starred items matching the criteria, OR IF "use starred items" is NOT checked, it...

• looks in bags for matching unstarred items
• looks in regular storage for matching unstarred items

It ignores your locked storage, of course.

If it finds more than one item type matching the criteria it...

• chooses the cheapest available option

After this, it gets a little unclear.

• if multiple options w/ same sell value, it seems to choose lower rarity first (chooses a common 100g fish before an uncommon 100g fish)
• if multiple options w/ same sell value AND rarity, it uses some arcane criteria that I haven't been able to figure out. Maybe item ID? Position in bags, if it's in your backpack? (takes from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th... last stack, THEN the first stack) Most abundant? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

By that point it's all a bit academic.

In short, you can manipulate what the selector auto-chooses like so:

-To use specific STARRED items, put the items you want to use in your bag, and only those items. Keep the rest in storage.

Example: Starters at cake parties sometimes accidentally use their starter blueberries in fruit frosting if they have to sub in, because then they have blueberries and apples in their bags, and the selector takes the cheaper one - i.e., the blueberries.

• To use specific UNSTARRED items (e.g., unstarred dari (Any Spice), unstarred epic fish (Any Fish)), having it in your bag is not enough IF Use Starred was checked. ALL starred items meeting the criteria must be hidden: lockboxed, placed as decor, or sold/deleted (ogopuu meat... misc. starred fish... starred sweet leaf...)

If the selector finds ANY matching starred items, it forces you to use them/won't let you use your unstarred.

If I may offer a "mental game" suggestion...

I personally recommend opening your oysters only once you've accumulated a solid batch of them. Our brains tend to cluster together emotional experiences that happen close together into one memory, so there is not much effective difference between the "maybe...? aww." of opening one single item vs. spamming a stack of 30... other than that opening 2,000 single oysters will be 2,000 individual "aww"s instead of 66.

A single success will also make the whole stack a success instead of 29 failures and one success. :)

(Also, it feels better to me, at least, to go out with a goal of "gather 30 oysters and then go home having met my goal for the day," versus "gather oysters until I feel like giving up because I haven't gotten it yet")

They have higher REVENUE per round, but the average improvement over the opportunity cost of the ingredients ("profit") is lower, because burgers get most of their value from the 3 vinegar roles. Also, the value coming from unstarred vinegar means that parties can struggle to get the star rate up - 50-60% seems to be typical, whereas ~66% is more typical with cakes unless you've got a particularly speedy (or lucky) group. So, it depends on how you look at it.

A new one spawns as soon as the previous one fully despawns, and they only have a few, specific spawn points. It's not too tough to sweep through all the locations looking, especially since the heartdrop lily shows up on a dowsing rod. The wiki page for them has all the coordinates listed, I believe.

imo they are easier to find than dari cloves (and in less demand). Also, if you say in server chat that you're looking for one, folks are more likely to call it out if they find one :)

In case anybody was wondering, I was able to confirm that fruit frosting and fruit paste both work fine with apples! Cake parties are safe!

It's only the Chopped Apple sub-ingredient that is not detecting apples in bags or storage. Only apple pie and fruit smoothie bowl are affected by the bug.

Unfortunately, the only advice I have is to develop a route for the places where they spawn and sweep it regularly.

Multiple flowtatoes can spawn at once (like heat root). Unfortunately, they don't seem to show up on a dowsing rod, unless they fixed that this patch.

They do seem to have semi-consistent places where they appear? After a while you get to know the spawn points a bit. And they are at least glowy and easy to spot 😅
If you have the option to turn your foliage settings down or all the way off, that can make them easier to see, too.

Sadly, no, and it's really dang rare. Just persistence, I'm afraid. It can drop from ANY size of ancient tree, but the drop rates go up as the trees get bigger (0.5% for sapling to 1.4% for large trees).

In case this might help... if you fill your bags up completely (I split up my stack of repair kits into single stacks), you can loot infected trees and ALL of the wood/fiber/etc. will go straight into overflow and get sent home, while the infected essence lands in your currency tab. So you won't have to stop to empty bags, if you just wanna grind it out, and as a bonus, you'll also be gathering infected essence as you go :)

(this also works for infected bugs and animals! but not forage sadly lol)

Yes, all of the amber varieties for some reason are only requestable in stacks of 20. It's been like that since amber in general was first introduced, and hardly anybody ever has that many amber on hand to fill them.

Basically it just inherited the request stack size from the wood/planks and was never changed.

If you are on PC, this kind of interface misalignment sounds like something went weird with your game aspect ratio - did you maybe accidentally swap to windowed mode or full screen mode without realizing? (keyboard shortcuts can do this, seen it happen a lot)

Check your graphics settings and make sure whatever you have it set on matches your screen's resolution :)

If it's not that, then it might be lag/high ping - especially if you ended up playing on a server in a different region cluster (by visiting or server syncing to someone there, for example)

On PC, you can check your current region on the Esc menu (top left corner), but I'm not sure about other platforms. To get back to your home region, log out and back in.

not sure if you already had this answered, but the way to do this is to put any starred forage, etc. in your lockbox. Then the cooking UI can't "see" it and will allow you to use unstarred for those items with Use Starred checked.
