Some trivia: You used to be given the muujin Bahari recipe via a main story quest, but then they changed it to be MUCH easier to complete the quest - no cooking required.

The quest used to be a major roadblock for folks who tried to complete it solo, as it required fruit. Originally, it wanted you to complete THREE very challenging recipes and star them all! Most people were probably to level 20 cooking by the time they managed that.

If you don't mind fishing/if you're fishing anyway, have you considered grilling your common & uncommon fish? Muujin Bahari starred is worth a maximum of 337 gold if you make it with brightshrooms, and two common glow worm fish like mottled gobi are worth 300g if they turn out starred (200g each otherwise).

(Glow worm farm output is solely based on whether the food is savory or sweet and its sell value.)

• If a station starts a recipe, it can't be used to prep ingredients. You'll need two of each type. (common culprits: mixing table for macarons, stove for recipes with rice, oven for recipes with bacon)
• Flip minigame: hold down the button, release to line up the dots. If you are trying to do that and it just keeps spinning, that's a bug; unstuck and try again.
• Leveling solo is fastest with grilled foods on multiple campfires; in groups, a well-run cake party is faster. (The dishes that give more XP per recipe than cakes are much slower.) Don't forget to upgrade your focus bonus % at the Phoenix Shrine, and don't forget to eat!
• Cooking together lets you divide the work and the cost and multiply the value of your ingredients, since everyone who completes a minigame step during a recipe gets a full copy of the food. Wiki has a guide to cake parties.
• Check the Dishes page on the wiki for a list of all cooking recipes and where to get them
• Dish sell value is calculated based on the UNSTARRED sell values of the ingredients (even if what you use is star quality). Higher value ingredients = higher value food. (Exception: green onion, ginger, bok choy, cabbage, kopaa nuts, and pumpkins behave as if their sell value were zero in recipes that chop them on the prep station)

For oven and spreader you don’t need ingredients. For leafer you can get them free by running around in Bahari. Those are the most profitable roles for a beginner at a cooking party.

I actually prefer outdoor kitchens when I attend cooking parties. Indoor kitchens tend to have weird sightlines that can interfere with the camera and make it hard to see the UI properly, not to mention lighting struggles and problems with noise.

You're not the first person I've heard about this from. The other person who mentioned it was trying to do the animation-cancel to skip the "pat pat good stove" when starting the recipe, and attributed it to that. He also had it happen with rice on a different recipe. (These were at cooking parties, so it definitely wasn't an issue of the entire recipe running out of time.)

So far as I know, this is NOT an intended mechanic (and I've never had it happen, at least on rice, even in 200+ of sashimi and sushi party rounds in the past week).

It's also happened with the bean burger patty itself, although much rarer to occur. I thought it was because I was clicking during the "pat pat", but the next time I made one, I didn't click during the "pat pat" and it still happened. I haven't tried animation skipping at all.

Depends a bit. However, fish taco parties are a pain for anyone on a controller, rolling cornmeal takes a long time, and accidental fish are a big hazard. Plus corn takes a long time to grow. So, I don't recommend tacos for practical reasons

I tend to use fish stew to clear out miscellaneous lower-tier rares (under 445g unstarred) and mixed fish. Heat root as the spice makes up the difference, and since it only needs garlic (which is buyable), it's very accessible money-wise. However, it's tough for people who have a hard time with chopping due to lag, hand pain/tremors, etc.

Sashimi is better for higher-tier rares and lowest tier epics: rice grows fast and is a stove stir. Very speedy.

I like sushi for mid-tier epics, poke for top-tier epics and Maws.

Yes, they are quite rare. Generally speaking, there is only one up at a time per server, and there is a 30-minute respawn timer after it despawns fully (so, 35 minutes since it was first picked, since it fully despawns after 5 minutes). They do show up on a dowsing rod, and they can appear anywhere a sweet leaf can spawn.

Funnily, if you're solo, chopping trees is technically faster, but harder on your inventory and also pretty tedious.

My usual solo strat is "pick everything."

In groups, it's flow tree chops with XP boosted trees.

(As an aside, oysters and elder clam mushrooms are interesting: since you can open them if your bags are full (all but last in the stack) and send the meat and pearls home, you don't have to worry about bag space. )

In my experience, people generally start getting fidgety past about round 50-60, but can usually make it to 100 okay. But after that, I find that long parties tend to be (a) harder to fill (who the heck has five hundred sweet leaf? and finding FOUR people with that much?) and (b) much slower than multiple shorter parties, because people end up off in the tulies/start messing with each other and forgetting to do their roles.

And being slower per round negatively affects star rate, as well, so it's not just a time cost

That's just me, though; some people really prefer the long parties because then they don't need to juggle multiple calendar entries.

Just show up the once, you know?

I actually really like 30x cake parties, but those tend not to get the signups because the setup time is the same, and it's not enough revenue to be worth the time-and-effort overhead

I would also look into XP-boosted/charged flow tree parties - sometimes listed on PaliaParty.app

Flow trees give variable amounts of experience. It's possible to "charge" them if you repeatedly damage them faster than they heal, then let them regen, repeat.

You can even do that by yourself out in the wild with medium and small flow trees! (Not saplings, though, at least not with an exquisite axe... lol) Everyone who can loot the tree in the end gets the full XP amount, so it is a good teamwork thing.

Solo: campfire foods with multiple campfires is fastest. Grilling your unstarred fish even makes you a little profit!

In groups: Celebration Cake. The few recipes that give more XP than cakes take a long time to make.

Dish XP scales with complexity (total number of minigame steps), so if you're cooking solo, recipes that give a lot of XP per round will be much slower and more expensive to make.

Foraging in a party accomplishes that. The fishing buffs only help with hooking fish faster, depleting the health on your rod a little less , and increasing the reticule size. They don’t give you a chance of catching double loot. Only being in a party.

There's a Palia wiki that will tell you how to get recipes. Some you buy from the guild store with Ruth, some you earn, some you find fishing, some you find in books around the maps.

So when you open up your stove or oven whatever, it will show the recipe , it will on the right show what is needed for ingredients and to cook so it will say if you need a mixing station, oven, stove etc.

The station with the cloth is where you mix, the station with out is where you chop, and the stove sometimes you stir sometimes you flip, oven you pretty much just put it in and take it out. It should've told you how to do the cooking as you started each station.

So, fish dish parties take advantage of a few different factors:

• several dishes have a variable ingredient "Any Fish"
• how much a dish sells for is determined by the total unstarred sell values of all of the ingredients used:
  • Example: for sashimi, you add up the values of 1 unstarred spice sprouts, 1 unstarred rice, and 1 unstarred... ...whatever fish you use, then multiply by 0.375 to get the base dish sell value. (Remember that you get 3 dishes whenever you make a recipe.)
• if the dish turns out starred, it's worth 150% of the base sell value
• some fish are worth A LOT of gold unstarred: top-tier epics clock in at 1,220g each, and Maws (the legendary shark) is worth about 2.5x that amount.

The upshot of this is that making sashimi with cheap fish results in cheap sashimi, but making sashimi (or poke, which uses multiple rare and epic forageables) with very valuable fish results in very valuable sashimi (or poke, or whatever your Any Fish recipe is).

When you split up the ingredients among a bunch of people, and have, say, 5 people bring 20 fish each (for a total of 100 rounds), and everyone else chops onions or stirs rice (or whatever fits the recipe) as overprep, then the individual costs are much lower than cooking the same thing alone... ...but the revenue stays the same.

So: massive profit.

(By my reckoning, those ingredients have a total opportunity cost of a bit under 45k. So, about 245k gold more than the best you would have managed trying to get gold out of those ingredients on your own.)

Yes, they are worth slightly more than triple-apple cakes. 221g base sell value, vs. cake at 187g.

The recipe is (can be) a bit faster than cakes. Point in its favor; cakes can take up to a minute per round if people aren't paying attention/don't know what they're doing. (They can be as fast as 30-35s per round if people do.)

However, points not in its favor...

• requires 3 beans per round, NOT split over multiple roles (i.e., one person has to have all 3 beans)
• starred beans, if you turn them into seeds, sell for 135g each.
• so that means that the bean person is contributing 405g per round
• vinegar likewise costs 200g each, so the three (three!) vinegar roles are bringing (in terms of opportunity cost) 200, 246, and 306g each per round
  • for comparison, apple jam is 144g each, and cakes only ask for 1 apple + 1 sugar per fruit froster, or 164g/round

There are a number of free roles, though, and some that only require something trivial, like milk. So it should all work out in the wash, right? assuming people take on different roles at different times

No, actually, it doesn't, because the average opportunity cost per role is 103g, and the average improvement over opportunity cost (at 66% of rounds turning out starred, which may be a bit high) is 752%.

In the case of rare/epic/legendary fish, it's a significant effect; most of those parties are 90+% starred (typical star rate for most parties like cakes, muujin Bahari, and general focus food dishes is ~66%)

You can! Any time there is an "any" option, you can click on (or press a button to open) the variable to choose the thing you want to use.

However, IF you have starred versions not in locked storage, it will only let you choose among those if you check "use starred." But once those are gone (or locked) you can use the unstarred ones :)

If you don't specifically choose one, it checks, in order:

• in your bag for starred
• in your storage for starred
• in your bag for unstarred
• in storage for unstarred
  ...and uses the first, least-rare, cheapest item it finds.

(If there are two items that have the same rarity and value, I think it chooses them by item ID, but I couldn't swear to that.)

Here's an example from the Grilled Mushroom recipe:

In general, if you don't have a starred version of an ingredient available, it will let you use your unstarred ones instead.

The only exception is in cases like apple pie or other recipes (like for beans and some of the EW recipes with pie dough) where it wants 3 of the same ingredient in the same step. In that case, you MUST have 3 of the same quality; it won't let you mix them.

Learned that the hard way once at an apple pie party lol

for example, I only have one starred mushroom in my regular storage, so when I check "use starred," it goes NOPE

Easy fix, though - pop that starred mushroom into my lockbox, and tada:

Yes, because if the second tomato gets made into ketchup, you can't chop another one to add to the dish. It will say it's been completed (looks like it's been added, but hasn't), but you can't chop another to add since the prep table closes when the last thing on it is cut.

It can happen with phoenixfire relleno (2nd pepper gets turned into chili paste) and lucky braised fish (last of 5 green onion gets made into fragrant spice mix)

just to add insult to injury from accidentally taking FOUR vinegar in one goshdang recipe (instead of the already-ridiculous three...)

(I think they miiight have fixed spawn points, like heartdrop lilies? They seem to me to be always in the same spots, but don't quote me on that.)

There is only one up at a time. They despawn 2 minutes after being picked, then 5 minutes later another appears. You can actually set a dang timer for 7 minutes and farm them if you have a dowsing rod and know where to check XD
