All I can say is, farm what is useful to you or aid in ur farming.
I have a friend who always farm with tomatoes and potatoes in a grid to ensure she barely has to water anything.

I only play for fun so I don't really know stats but my guess is just time, though I do know keeping ur focus; the bar you fill with food filled up obviously will level you up faster.

When you do quests for nai’o or badruu they give you seeds, I found that planting cotton and tomatoes made me level up so fast cause it’s only a couple days to harvest
