you dont really unlock anything but with eden runs you can get more of the red candles from there, which are used to buy/unlock things

I'd say the only things you will unlock will be really long term, other than ascended candles.
Using these with spirits to purchase upgrades will reward u with a permanent wing buff, so for example if I upgraded the spirit with the pointing emote, a complete Eden run will give u one free buff when u return :)

technically you lose all your collected wing lights from the realms, but other than that, you gain eden candles to unlock elder cosmetics (it's bugged for now so have to wait) and ascend traveling spirits to gain more wing buffs

no progress will be reset for seasonal quests etc.

the more you bring the more you can get

theres 60 something statues, but the last segment will drain your wings aggressively and you'll need far more for the last ones

it really depends. there's 63 statues to save if you want the max you can get, so you need 63 wl for each.
but with how rough the storm is, you're gonna need more to ensure you can go far

there is. when you first transitioned to the flight area after black room, you'll fly towards a castle with jellyfish.

instead of going there to slide down, try to aim the windows at the left of the building

once you're thru, keep flying up. use the clouds to charge yourself

tho, there's no shortcut once you reach the part with flying spirits and friends.

Most frequent server split that I have encountered so far from a solo veteran player is that eden assumed there's another player in that area, making the only player fly above the sky where the rocks spawn after death

This is known to be somewhat infamous in which almost everyone encounters this

^ This isn’t a server split, but an awful bug that TGC has never addressed! You can usually maintain the server in Ascent/Orbit with anyone else affected by having everyone wait for the “continue without waiting for others” pop up and press it within a few seconds of each other.

The server splitting at the Eden gate is AB Group testing related, and should hopefully be getting patched out on the 30th according to the recent development post.

Yes, it is just as common as it seems. I'd say probably in the range of 15-25% of your Eden runs will get this glitch. I waited to introduce friends to the game for over 8 months and the bug wasn't resolved despite several reports across all platforms, so I bit the bullet and gave up.
I'm pretty sure it's related to how the servers operate nowadays, since it was re-introduced in the second AURORA season patch and has never been addressed. That's the same patch that brought festival tech to the backend, which is also something never going away.
Essentially, the bug happens when the server thinks someone else is still alive in your instance and puts everyone in your lobby in spectator purgatory. That combined with the timing this bug started appearing is what makes me think it's something festival tech server matchmaking related.

I was gonna say, I definitely remember it during my moth days in Shattering. I don't think Festival Tech is necessarily the cause, in this case, though it could be somewhat of a factor. There's likely some other underlying issue causing it that we don't know about, which might be the reason why it's persisted for so long

That bug is really confusing to me, because ive been doing eden a bit more than once a week since season of revival started, and ive never seen it

Played during flight and abyss too, and never had it happen back then either, except maaaaybe once?

Some people seem to have it happen super commonly ( even quoted up to 25% there ) so i wonder what could possibly cause it, maybe connection issues on wifi connection for switch and mobile users?

Before ~0.19.0, it was definitely not as common as it is today. I wasn’t tracking bugs or going to Eden as often back then, but I do struggle to remember the bug happening during and before Shattering. I had done at least 30 runs before Shattering and never experienced it or saw it described on the server with such frequency (with awareness of the frequency illusion). I may have seen it once or twice only during Shattering, but it’s been so long ago for me and the dates run close to when it started getting really bad. My memory isn’t that good either.

I play on PC Demo and Switch exclusively, and with friends on Switch, Playstation, Android, and PC. This is how often the bug happens in our lobbies alone, either when we’re together, alone, or crossplaying with other unknown players on unknown platforms.

I’ll never know for sure what made it start to occur with so much more frequency around this time. There are a lot of other Eden bugs, but this exact one is the most confounding and hard to pin down an origin or cause to me. Festival tech and changes to server matchmaking is a good place to start theorizing, but I understand we don’t know the true cause until development says something. (please say something)

or maaaybe saw it like, once? but i cant tell if the memory was just a video i saw or something lol

my best guess is ia cross platform connection thing that only happens in specific cases but those cases are enough to be common for those people
I wonder if some of the people who disappeared at the end of eden for me could have been someone affected by it, like im able to go forward without the popup but they arent

fair, there are ways around that and some really good time saving skips but i'll be glad for the fix

i think i know like 3 spots you can save a ton of time which are just like
fly straight from door to upper cliff area
skip room 2 with a clip through the left wall at the start
skip part of the ascent into the sky by going through a window with no collision and going straight up after being reborn

I decided to head to Eden and be reborn but this moth was very friendly up until they got hit, they quit the game by then unfortunately. They followed my steps up to PNR and were like at the tunnel just before PNR but they came in with me anyways. I also got all but one stinky statue.

hmmm... its kindof a balance between your angle while fighting the wind. you want to kinda fly into it, but if you fly directly into it you'll be shoved back and lose control, and if you fly too vertical it will shoot you into the sky and it'll be over.
hard to recharge in there but try and focus on the angle you're going into the wind with

gonna try it for a minute and see if i can do a better job

practicing it a bunch more now - I would say its a balance between going vertical, but still having your wings glowing from being used, which wont cancel your actual gliding mode

and then you need to aim left enough to land up top through the drift

now thats the best i've ever done it, in 5 heh

im also mostly holding W on PC, which is forward the entire time, it helps keep your angle from flying away

with that angle doing it in 5 is pretty quick, tried to do it with 4 and its just not enough distance LOL

theres a big burst of speed i notice on two and three that carries you through the wind, and up which can be pretty tough to control too

it is not supposed to be removed or hidden, it is supposed to be attached to the animation properly. Like with many bugs in this game, the cutscene used to be correct, but then they broke it and now it's been so long everyone just assumes it's supposed to be this way

When i came back i sorta changed that since i needed so many for the forest elder mask, and now i throw myself in eden once a week after reset so that while doing daily quests during the rest of the week or just getting candles in general, i'll run into the winged lights again and pick em up on the way

feels like it saves me a lot of time that way, dont have to do winged light runs or anything like that as i typically pickup enough. I do have to do daily quests with sometimes like only 4 wings for a day or two though lol, and i never really get high numbers of wings anymore, but i guess i dont really need it anyway

Eden felt very different today (on PC). Last week I got as far as the last statue, then crawled well past it.
Today I reached the sand dunes with about 72 radioactive children and still couldn't even get to the last statue. Instead of the usual "dropping souls every 5-10 seconds" routine, I was dropping them every second.

I wish I had recorded it. It was a night-and-day difference.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's a thing similar to host-vs-client advantage in other games, where depending on how the system loads you into an instance or whatever, the entire area behaves differently? First person in takes far more damage than everyone who joins them, for example? Or if there are multiple people in the area you take less damage, vs if you're alone?

I crest the hill with ~over 100 wings left and still barely reach the end sometimes. There are times where the Wing Lights pour out like liquid, plus critical hits. I’m still not entirely sure if a more stable server connection will cause you to drop them more consistently, or if you can “lag boost” your way through it…

Yes, in the final section. But the RNG behaves more and more aggressively the further in you go to the sand dunes.

I've noticed it's less likely to give you critical hits when you first make your way through. And the further in you go, the critical hit chances increase.

Yeah, that's what I was experiencing. Just non-stop soul drops. I'm honestly convinced there's a bug. I happened to record last week's run. I was cresting the sand dunes with 85 souls. I deposited the last soul in the last statue with 41 remaining.

This time I was at the dunes with 70-something, and ran out I think before I even got half-way between the second-to-last statue and last statue. Which means I was losing souls at at least twice the rate as last week.

You can randomly get crit with any damage you take when extinguished. That will stun you longer and drop 4 or 5 wings at once. I believe the more you WL you enter Eden with, it may be more common to receive a critical hit.

The planned changes to damage from beta haven’t arrived yet.

In the past, the number of souls I dropped has always been determined by how many souls I have. I have many, I drop five per hit. I have fewer, I drop 4, 3, 2, etc.

The stun is when your gameplay/overall movement will slow momentarily as the wings fall out. Your character also does an animation that you cannot cancel when you are being stunned.

You can kind of do a tiny jump when you receive a critical hit if you spam the jump button. It's very hard to tell but your character nudges a bit forward.

Occasional random critical hits (if those are a thing) doesn't explain the difference in pacing of those hits. We're talking about hits every 5 seconds vs hits every second.

That, and these next few Elder masks get buffed. It's definitely in need of a buff, and I hope they add an ultimate reward for free where, if you get all the Elder masks, you can buy the Eden crown for free. Because that alone is a big accomplishment.

I think, the rocks fall in some way of a pattern sometimes. Then it depends how you crawl in the pattern or not, sometimes there‘s an entire wall of rocks in your direction wich could explain constant hits? But it‘s very difficult to impossible to avoid the rocks because of this

Also, regarding rocks ^ , because strategic directional movement is impossible past the dunes, it shouldn’t really be factored in. It generally hits all at once in a constant shower at this point.

The only thing I’m pretty sure changes the damage effect/calculation is, your first run on the account and the total amount of wings you enter with. But we don’t have official statements, so it’s hard to tell.

Last week, from the crest of the dune (with about 90 radioactive kids) to me finally dying took about 140 seconds. Rate of ~0.64 kids/second.
This week, assuming I was making the same pace (crawling speed), with about 70 radioactive kids, this week I died about 64 seconds after that same point. Rate of about 1.09 kids/second. Though this second value is me doing some guestimation based off of memories from 20 minutes ago, not a video recording.

Last week: ~0.64 kids/second.
This week: ~1.09 kids/second.

If that's RNG, that's... wild.

(Augh, and I just realized I overlooked a second statue somewhere. Only got 15.25 blood candles. 😆)

I'm going to write down details now while they're still fresh in my mind, in case they're relevant. On today's run:

• I initially got merged into a very large group all lighting the entrance. Possibly six people holding hands, plus one or two strays?
• Saw a group of six skykids lighting the door to the second zone when I first entered. But I then backtracked out of the area because I realized I hadn't picked up the radioactive kid just before the loading zone.
• I ran back and forth through the first-second zone loading area twice in order to record the fact that that first radioactive child refuses to pick up properly if you run forward too quickly. (I don't know if this impacted my population counts, but I basically only saw two other players from this point on.)
• I saw a moth get tagged by a lighthouse snake, went down, rescued them. They immediately offered a friendship candle, which I begrudgingly accepted, at which point I ferried them to the final tunnel.
• I saw one stranger run the wrong way past me in the tunnel coming from the direction of the point of no return.
• The new-friend moth entered the Eye, immediately started lighting statues very haphazardly, skipping past even torches, made it about... half way? I think? Hard to tell, I was looking from a distance, but basically around that area where those two statues are off in that left-hand switchback alcove area? Or in that general direction? Died.
• Their spirit only stuck around for a minute, maybe less, then vanished. I suspect they may have quit and restart?
• The rocks falling and audio seemed slightly desynchronized from time to time?
• I saw no other skykids in the Eye.
• Initially, damage near the dunes felt 'normal'. Then there was... a hitch of some kind? Some sort of odd behavior? And suddenly I was taking hits 2x as frequently? I'm not certain on this one. Man, I wish I had recorded it.

Theories:

• The number of players in your instance can impact the damage you take. Having more may mean you take fewer hits than you should.
• A player dying somewhere near the spotlights-of-doom and then quitting may impact the damage you take.
• A player quitting while their spirit is exposed to rocks may impact the damage you take.
• Something has changed on the PC build to double the damage you take at/past the dunes.
• Something about the Eye is buggy enough that somehow 'two' storms are generated when loading the area occasionally? 🤔
• Something can happen that disables i-frames? (Or i-frames aren't supposed to happen, but happen so consistently it feels like they're the normal/correct behavior?)

But even with the non-hits, I was taking hits less often it feels like.

12:35 in that video I just linked is an example of the phantom hits I'm thinking of. I take one hit, drop five souls, but I can see five visible 'splashes' of particle effects, one for the drop of souls, then four one after another afterwards.
The next hit I take at 12:47, I also drop five souls, but there's only the single splash of particles. It's like the four splashes where I didn't drop souls were i-frame hits?

Maybe i-frame hits stopped working this week for me for some reason. I do remember feeling like the hit behavior changed midway through my crawl.

I have definitely been in Eden where the red rockfalls were far worse than normal. I thought TGC may have revised it on purpose to make it harder, but the next time I went it was back to normal.

It is impossible to get more than 8 skykids in the same 'place' at the same time. This is a hard limit set by the way the game works.

I once did the statue area backwards, starting near the end (past the shrine with the three statues), freeing a few spirits, then running back to the start when I felt in danger of death. Nothing strange happened: the game operated as you'd expect. And I didn't find any advantage in operating this way.

I went to Eden by myself for the first time yesterday! Second time ever. The first time had me so blown away I've wanted to go back every day since (it's been months).
I feel very accomplished with how many statues I freed, I think I only missed one or two right next to the diamond.
Anyway the whole experience was just as amazing as I remembered. It is such a strange mix of catharsis, relief, chaos, grief, dread, fear and joy.

i've been running eden for a while and most of the time i can get to the last fire without losing any wl (unless i get careless and just start speeding)

Idk what "storm lock" is but I'm guessing it's when you get stuck crawling and getting crit?
Seems like the best way is to load up on WL and try not to lose any getting hit till after the last torch. BTW you don't have to stand in one place while offering WL to statues; instead, as soon as you press the button you can keep moving. Maybe you knew that already but I didn't 😬 it helps make the most of the short time between rock falls/splashes

One week I went back to pnr to see which statues I missed. I had lots of wl left after clearing sand dune statues and decided to head back to help others behind me. I found if I went along the “right” side rock wall (right side when you’re facing into the diamond volcano) I found I was able to easily run back with little to no hits at all. I’ve never done it again, but it would be interesting to see if you travel in same direction as rock fall, you’re less likely to get hit…

For your first time in Eden ? Getting out with your sanity intact is good. Any spirits freed is a bonus. Lots of people just use the Home icon, then sit and scream for the next fifteen minutes.

Depends on what your goals are and how many AC you get each run on average. If you’re saving up ascended candles, trying to get an elder mask or need them to complete constellations or to open up friend trees it can be worth it for periods of time. It also helps you get better at it.
But for most people unless they’re saving or have goals, once every two weeks (after TS) for those who play frequently or once a month if you play sporadically is probably often enough if there’s nothing pressing, assuming you do most shards.
It’s a good idea to keep a decent store though cause we never know when group visits spirits will happen, and often at the same time we get a TS or two. Depending on how many spirits (3-5 + TS’s) come it can get dicey if you only keep a minimum amount around

It's the summit of the mountain. outside of orbit, and the castle up there, there wouldn't really be much beyond it except the opposite face of the mountain, which is presumably a lot harder to climb up than the one we do.

it doesn't quite help with the ambiguity of the situation around orbit itself, though we do know the castle is up there, we can see it from far away, so it's less ambiguous than say its equivalent section in Journey (Snow and Paradise respectively).
This is a great question, I bet #lore-discussion-spoilers would have some interesting thoughts on it @wintry hill

Guys I have a theory about what’s going on with that wl in Eden. There’s also a glitch where these an invisible wl in the isle of Dawn map. Well apparently for new players (my friend joined like a week ago) the very first wl you ever collect is missing. Maybe that’s where the wl went?
