Google does thorough testing of apps that are submitted to the Play Store to make sure they pass Play Protect Certification. Sometimes the app que is large enough that it takes longer than the hour to appear in the Play Store. (essentially inspects them for any known malicious code. This is why in the TOS TGC says the only supported install method is through the play store due to this check Google does.)

It should only affect certain Adreno GPUs. Mali GPUs are not affected by the AA artifact bug.

Which is why I say certain ones. It's more of a Vulkan renderer bug with newer versions of Vulkan running the outdated Vulkan API calls that TGC needs to use to keep compatibility with 1.0.3. (Android 11 is currently on 1.1.128 whilst Android 8.0 is on 1.0.3. That's a huge jump in versioning.)

That's probably because lots of people are tired of price inflation with things in our society, such as food, clothing, toys, ect. Its a sensitive topic because money and pricing is important to people.
Average minimum wage in the US is $7 (an hour) for example, and costs of things we need and/or want have gone up tremendously. Minimum wage 50 years ago could buy a brand new car or house, now it doesn't sustain the cheapest rent.
This is why players may find high IAP prices or limits on wax forging to be frustrating.

I do agree with this though, parts of the beta build are always promoted to live, so when they aren’t fixed in beta first, likely the same issues would show up in live as well - especially since Ktjn did say that the new features/season content and some of these issues are inseparable :(

I've just run the main areas I was getting texture artifacting (loading in and out) and crashing, and this build somehow seems much better, still getting crashes if I look at specific angles which crashed before, but I have to try to get crashes now by swiveling the camera in low framerate areas, but before it was taking a bit longer

Crash fixes were not included in the patch that went out today because we have not found fixes for them yet. the team is working on it, but these things take time.

It's important to understand that the black screen fix has been worked on for 3+ weeks, even though Live players have only been experiencing it for 2 days. The crashes are even more tricky, and needs even more time.

Hoping in the future there can be a Vulkan driver version check for "legacy mode" and "updated shininess" for those of us with Android phones that weren't affected to enjoy the beautiful changes that broke older, outdated drivers. (If this was partially the case) whatever optimizations that were done that broke older phones let my Adreno 615 easily hit 60 fps compared to older versions of sky being limited to 45 fps making it not compatible for 60 fps. Edit: black screen fix, whatever it was made it back to 45 fps.

It's not necessarily related to OS version, though older software eventually ages out of sustainable support parameters. While not entirely related, I do find it interesting that not a lot of commotion was raised when we dropped support for iOS 11 and older this patch. It is directly tied to shader rendering on vulkan. Maintaining two separate rendering pipelines introduces even more risk of issues and instability.

@spark lance My opinion is because of deadlines and because live bug reports include more information about devices to faster pinpoint the issue. For example, in beta they have been fixing black screen for 3 weeks, in live they released a patch in 2 days (of course the time spent on fixing in beta helped a lot).

Other than my opinion, you can see Ktjn's statement pinned in #general-sky-discussion which tells the number of devices affected is such a small ratio (regardless the affected users are the most active now on Skyscord) that it was below the treshold of rolling back.

As someone who experiences 0 crashes, I can understand people's anger, and imo it's perfectly valid to call TGC out for putting out such a broken version of the game. They had a deadline sure, but they were also perfectly aware of what they were putting out. At the same time tho, I can't imagine the pain in trying to figure out what's causing the crashes on only specific type of Androids. As someone said in the server somewhere, don't remember who, something simple as a missing bracket can break an entire game. Did game design for 2 years and I can confirm that.🐒

The arrival of Android players themselves doesn't cause problems
Android device varied manufacturers and Open OS system do
It's more of android's "fault" for being Open OS, which makes it hard to comply with, not the android players. I'll keep saying this, but it's a miracle on it's own to see this game being on android ( considering it originated on IOs )

Tbh, this sort of discussion can and will run around in circles since TGC hasn't said anything regarding this. Especially about compensation. So a lot of us are just sitting anxiously while waiting.

Yes. As Uzephi wonderfully pointed out many manufacturers don't update Vulkan drivers properly and this is causing the issue for exactly those devices (Mali, Samsung Exynos and the rest)

They are pretty quick to fix that Black screen actually, about the crash, it only happen at the entrace of certain maps area, once a player enter the middle area, they won't crash

I have 2 device and 1 have crash problems, i test them out to see the possibility of Crash range with it

The only place crash i have reported before are:

✓Sanctuary entrace
✓Forest entrance map area 2 the One with Medit Brook quest
✓Valley Gliding Entrance, the one on the way to Tunnel down to the Ice Ring
✓Valley Dream Village
✓Wasteland whirpool
✓Vault Entrance
✓Vault Purple light area

All of this Crash can be avoided by forcing your Camera view down while you get dragged by your Friends

Or by Teleporting to your friends place outside of the Crash area range.

All of this Crash area also already reported.

I don't think what's currently happening is about how much a phone can handle a thing.
It's more about coding right while developing a game, which can surely be hard for devs who have to code their apps to run on several different combinations of hardware as well as software.
My Android device hasn't crashed once since 0.14.5 build, fortunately.
Again I don't know much about this and I might be wrong, correct me if so, but I think it's a good thing for you to not experience those problems.
Apparently TGC is taking this really seriously and they're doing what's necessary for players to enjoy the game again, let's hope it won't take too long.

Not sure how other online mmo games handle game breaking issues. But I hope we get to test longer and much stabler builds in future, while live events are more spaced out (as many have been asking since events seem too frequent) to allow for more stable builds to be pushed out. IMHO there wouldn't be much use to sticking to timelines on an ongoing basis if the gameplay is being disrupted irrespective of sticking to said timelines.

But since dreams it seems we get some disruptive bug at constant intervals. I joined during sanctuary. Didn't face any issues until dream season. Too much of a gap between content updates means that players will get bored and will stop playing

Sky is already on a slower update schedule due to switch release so that means that the devs have to work even harder to ensure critical bugs are fixed, but sadly that doesn’t mean they always will be

That is roughly 21 days
So if that will be the same period it takes to solve the crash problems, we would roughly be 16 days playing normally in Sky to catch up on doing the seasonal task and complete the season
So lets compute 21 x 6 sc that is 126 sc
But if there are crashes where the tasks are that will only be 21 x 2 sc thats 42 sc
And the remaining 16 x 6 sc will give you 96 sc
96 + 42 = 138 sc, is that enough to earn 3 season hearts then?
Also at this point, TGC should not wait for another live update performing within threshold to treat their beta testers like some extra
Had they given us the fix for the black screen in beta BEFORE doing the live update containing the unresolved problem maybe the reactions would have been less intense
Clearly it was a business call, a schedule to keep but if thats all there is to it then legit beta players will just lose faith and be less active so who actually loses here?

Think about it this way, to us it seems like the devs just decided not to push the fix but in reality the devs had this update ready weeks in advance, because that’s how long it takes for Nintendo to verify an update
The devs just found a fix for the black screen 2 days ago, which means that after they confirmed the bug was actually fixed, they would send the update to all platforms now, which means that in reality we would not get the fix for a few more weeks so mobile could be in sync with switch

I know it’s frustrating when it seems like beta testers are being ignored but there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes that we as players are not privy to

I'd like to add that we didn't really pay anything for stuff in beta and we are warned that due to beta shenanigans sometimes obtaining /completing everything won't be possible and there will be no compensations. The only thing we invest in beta is our time.

I agree with the compensation needing to happen because not being able to cr for the ts AND the sword pants have put me personally in a very tight position, I might not have enough for the ts next week, when I was planning to always keep extra candles to collect for the sword suit.
And that's just about the regular candles, let alone the seasonal ones that I keep missing on everyday, it's really frustrating for a dedicated player like myself.

The difficult thing for TGC also is because they're in the US, all the S series Samsungs they are able to get easily without import taxes are Snapdragons, thus making it harder to internally test. (S series phones having the issue are Exynos variants, I.E international models, not US/CA)

sky isn't really dying considering we just got a huge batch of players from switch
any game can feel "dead" or "boring" after a while, that's only the nature of things, so you move on
that said, there will always be new players and new seasons, like i said some people come out of the coffin after a new season that they like drops
also we always had some new feature (spell shop, shared spaces) from seasons, even some from events
the future of the game is pretty bright imo, its just things seem slow because they are a small company to begin with, and with lots more income now they can have more manpower to develop and maintain the game
a lot of the bugs are really caused by old obsolete code and sudden hardware issues, which are really unpredictable, if you think sky has a dark future because its always gonna be plagued with major bugs
but we never know the future, anything could happen 😌

Well, things I have learned today:

1.) Eden is a lot harder as a chibi than I thought
2.) Going through Eden in Beta is hard because no one is around to help
3.) In the parts of Eden where I wasn't stuck trying to hop up a tiny step to no avail, I was surprisingly fast as a chibi and was able to naruto-run past the only other couple of normal-sized people I did find, and now I'm, uh, wondering if it's normal to be considerably faster than everyone else in Eden if you're a chibi? I'm normally tol in Live and so I'm not used to this whole chibi thing.

Ah, they reintroduced a ton of new mediation spots a while back, and the battle field one is usually done before the krills come in, and they're supposed to not spawn in until you get to the gate. Beta has less players so that might be why that slipped in, almost no one would have gone into a server with krills already there. Definitely leave feedback on that

Btw changing krill's path isn't an issue, I mean it got boring because we all knew where would a krill will come from or when we have to move. And to lessen the pain, try to be good at hiding or reacting fast when krill spots you because that's how you're supposed to play.

The issue with that is even if u r safe doing the medi while the gate is closed, there is no telling what server the players will be coming in to meditate so it is possible the krills are already out
And we only have limited time to stay to like as well

With the krill tricks getting patched one by one, hiding from krill is getting harder and harder
No problem with the changing krill path as long as it will not directly pass through the medi spot
Just as we players are at the mercy of the bugs and crashes that TGC rolls out, we are also victims of players wanting adrenaline on their play

beta is a very tiny minority in the whole player base, but it can still reflect what the community thinks. and when krill tricks were taken out, not a lot of people were happy about it yes, some players don't mind it or even enjoy wasteland with its danger, including me, but not everyone does

I hv a diff opinion though. To me its reasonable for GW to be risky, but its also a must for medi spots to be safe. Yes , but that risk comes from the environment and players around. No meditation spot itself is directly in risk. Being in GW is already dangerous enough. And considering that meditation is designed to be slow, i don think they intend it that way, the one in Battlefield.

and iirc, that one krill always passed over that mediation spot? at least a little bit. the issue is more due to bad server merges, since the krill shouldn't be active until you get close to the gate, even if someone in your server activates it before you (which honestly causes a whole lot of issues but that's another topic)

also, that message spot has always been there. they just added all the old meditation spots back into quest rotation. where would they even move that spot to in order to make it safer? there aren't many good spots for the message shrine to be at in battlefield

If we hv underestimated the risk of being krilled in graveyard, we wouldn't have asked for Battlefield's spot to be away from krill's path. In fact, we know meditate near krills is already a challenge itself thus asking them to adjust it so it doesnt patrol directly to the meditation spot. Just like the one in graveyard. Unless other players attract them, it shud remain a safe spot. Its not meditation if its directly in risk. Putting the spot in a dangerous location vs putting krills flying towards it, are two diff situations.

And with uncontrollable server merge that players cant predict, i only see more reason for others hoping it can at least be away from the krill's path.

We may not know what solution is the best here as we r not technical team, but its legit why people dont want krills to fly towards it directly.

there seems to be some misinterpretation of something i said in response about the release of a specific build to beta. new content isn't ready for release, which is why beta is currently pretty dead (you can scroll up endlessly seeing folks complain about lack of new content and impatience for seeing new things in beta) our current focus is on fixing crash issues, which is a culmination of several weeks worth of effort.

Players seem to forget that we do have an internal QA team that tests everything before it reaches beta. a bug appearing on live is not an indication that QA is not doing their job. It means bug fixes were not found in time for release. over the course of beta, the black screen and crash issues were within reasonable limits to permit a Live release as scheduled, however, once the 0.14.5 patch reached live, those numbers exploded far beyond what we anticipated. it's unfortunate when this happens, but there's no malicious intent behind it. It's actually quite heartbreaking to know that we created a bad experience for folks. It fills us with sadness and disappointment, in addition to frustration.

Sorry folks, as a android tester I just downgrade my phone to avoid bugs. From my experience, thr crash is not limited to mali GPU, I'm in snapdragon 855, after I update my graphic driver to 0530 I got a lot random crashes. After downgrade to 0502 I just has some micro frame-freeze

part of it is the verticality of the level. the cause of the crashes is there are too many polygons trying to be rendered at a given time, becoming too much for certain GPUs to bear, so to protect the device from permanent damage, the application force quits.

I think they meant that the big mountain + areas in the sky + clouds (?) has a lot of polygons. Spacially, sanctuary is a LOT and very large and tall in comparison to other areas. if you have a lot of "polygons" in an area, it pushes your gpu to load it all. not certified programmer big brain though 😔
