@frigid scaffold Sorry to hear you do not like the current candle system being refined in beta. Glad to hear you sent feedback as that's the best place to be heard by TGC.
So you're aware though the beta candle system is not yet complete. One of the main purposes of the system will be to stop candle run time from continuing to grow longer and longer as more places are added in the sky world. From what I've heard this will involve a hard candle cap, effectively meaning you will not have to run all the realms for max candles each day and can instead run where you enjoy or feel like the most. This will likely reduce candle run time while we can still make 19-20 candles a day (more during events that give candles).

Yes, it happened quite commonly on my old device and wasn't exactly a new problem, I'm talking a few months ago. It hasn't happened once on my newer device so I believe it might be device specific. That's only a sample size of one though. Hopefully they might find a patch for it soon.

Also bug reporting is preferred on discord, without an account it's pretty hard to do it here, i belive interaction could mean posting a screenshot or artwork of their own, or recting to roles etc. none of us knows what is it, but i doubt they require everyone to chat here all the time

may I ask about the candle forging system? how's its doing
its been a while since it got introduced and I gotta say, im curious about its progress

Its in beta for a while now, but we didn’t have any major change recently. The last thing i remember, that they added the candle cakes to the trials and vault, also we are able to reach the same/almost the same amount of max. candles as we can in live. Other than this I haven’t noticed any change in it. Personally i still prefer the old one, but i’m not in a big need of candles neither in beta nor in live so I don’t really care how many I get. If I have time i do full runs anyways, if I don’t, then i pick a few map i like and collect those.

Here’s how it seems to work (someone correct me if I’m wrong): you start with 3 chevrons and collect wax at 2x the normal rate. After a while (about 2 maps?) you go to 2 chevrons and collect wax at normal rate. If you go in order, by Valley, you are down to one chevron and collect at half the normal rate.

So It’s not a linear system like we have in live. You get a lot of candle in the beginning and very very little if you reach zero chevron. Doing wastealnd with zero chevron gives you ~1 candle. There is a max amount, you can reach if you collect all available wax atm (which is close to the maximum obtainable candles in live). However after a point i doesnt worth the effort for me at least. The wax you collect doesn’t have a set value it’s more or less, depending on your chevron level. Basically adding wax to extra places wont’t really affect what you can get at the end. You will just reach zero chevron and tiny wax size earlier and have to spend more time with that, to collect the remaining if your goal is to get the max. However it’s still in developement we don’t know how the system will look in the future, so I’m curious too about how will it change. Sorry for my super slow typing

The new system is meant to encourage socialising over candle running. It seems many players are spending too much time just collecting wax and not doing much else in the game, so the idea is that you can get more candles in a short period of time and then do something else instead.

They don’t want players to spend all their time with cr, but basically everything need candles , friendships, constellation, ts, holiday items, chat benches. If you want to progress in those you need candles, a lot. Only my opinion,I think this system is not the best on its own, but with adding ts or other system changes or just optimizing it more could make it way friendlier for current full candle runners too.

Well as Ktjn said before most people aren’t even getting 10 candles a day, this change is so people are able to get more candles by just playing the same way they already are

One thing I think that caused the need for people to do full CRs are the TS. A good example of this is the respectful pianist for me in live. I wanted the piano since forever. I did tag along with other friends on their CR that week to get the 75 candles I needed for it. Now, if I wanted everything that TS had, I would have had to CR more.

The next TS was a TS for a season I was present for, so I only needed to spend the 2 AC for wing buff. I didn't CR much that week.

I think it can be a good way to test it if you do it once/few times the same way you do cr in live, and compare the two experience. Then try it in the way you feel the most comfortable with in the new system .

We started the same time and she has all constellations complete in live whilst I only completed GW for the hair. If I could lower prices, I would make items under the lock not so expensive. Sometimes I see a mask under buff and it was what, 40 candles? It seems more appropriate to make it 18 or something. Then it again price under buff would increase depending on what kind of cosmetic it is. Like if it was a mask, 18. If it was a prop item, 32. Something like that. Just stating opinions.

What was a bug? There's a decent server side check for the suggestion. Just have the server give candles for the first 3 relives. All candle currency is server side anyway and as long as the server knows, 'this spirit was relived already, counter of relives today is x. If x > 3 don't award candle.'

Inactive is a problem, if a person is not active, will be directly deleted, in order to ensure that the server is not active clean up intact, let them grab the invitation again.

I've left plenty of feedback over the last 14 months of me playing sky on why I think the constellation needs to be accessible for me. really has just come to me refusing to accept lights now until my constellation breaks because lighting people back is awful with the camera panning idk how much more feedback I can leave before it's considered spamming. yeah if you want to light someone back you click their star and the camera pans down as your friend comes down with their candle out to light. I get that they did this for aesthetic reasons but that camera panning up and down for me gets bad after about 10-15 people. I have probably 2000+ friends between beta and live to light it's even worse as a short skykid (jars the camera pan) and other factors like other people being too close to you (also jars the camera pan) or people shooting off fireworks while you're looking up at the constellation. I've heard from people who aren't photosensitive that it bothers even them too

Why I think this is tricky situation is that to find friends we need to block/unblock people.. having convienient unblock options means that people will start farming hearts from constellatons and abuse qr code system.

I think the only times this has happened at home is when I might have a network problem. It appears that I alone have been shifted off to another server where I am alone. My microwave can induce this problem when I’m on a 2.4GHz wifi system. However, recenlty (?a month?), this seems common in other areas with groups...where the entire group of 5,6,7 or 8 people are split to completely different servers. ....that situation I can’t associate with a local network problem.

so back in feb/march of last year they did an android stress test in beta right before the global launch. we had hundreds of thousands of active beta players at once. the beta servers can handle a much bigger load than is actually active at any given time. last I checked we were around 20-30,000 between both android and ios when we were still doing access wipes and new invites between seasons

Holding hands surprisingly was never a problem for me, but a lot of friends warped to us usually just to get the quest done. Which is ok I’m glad to help but at least a Hi-Thanks-Bye would be nice or an emote not just joining grabbing hands and leaving without a word. So from that side it’s not always a good quest agree. However it has some motivational effect to join someone’s activity when normally you wouldn’t do it.

Back in Season of Prophecy beta testing, I suggested they add more incentive to the trials because I feared many players would complete them once and then move on. Now that candle cakes have been added this might encourage players to revisit and possibly mix up their candke run maps. I still enjoy the cave of prophecies and usually spend 10 to 15 minutes per day there, just chilling. However, sometimes a friend will warp to me, act surprised and ask what I’m doing there...haha. I guess it’s a good thing they’re rethinking the wax collecting system, it seems to be a priority for many players to the point of just running through maps to collect balls of light. A shame really, considering the beauty of Sky!

Most likely not. Save data shouldn't be more than 20kb or so maximum. So an inactive player won't affect the server that much compared to taking a slot up when Testflight's limit is 10,000 users per Apple's site. (Edit: I don't know if that is a "fake" public limit on their Testflight info page or if the limit can be raised by Apple since I don't have an Apple Dev account and don't have an app on Testflight.)

I think a lot of people are focused on/feel entitled to beta like it's a feature or extension of the live game, which it is not. It's an environment to ultimately serve development needs. Some studios never do any kind of public testing and they produce amazing games. Having a public beta means we can feedback earlier to make an even better experience than what the design team envisioned during development. It also means issues can be spotted and fixed sooner. It can also be used as hype-generating tool, though that's more of a fringe benefit than a primary goal.

I've seen a lot of people placing blame of google for how they manage their platform for beta, but honestly it's a lot more developer friendly than apple's arbitrarily determined hard cap of x amount of testers. We put a lot of time and effort to keep things reasonably fair between platforms.

I've also seen concern that android would drown out ios testers because there are more of them that have access, but this has been the case since we started android testing a year and a half ago and only because of the recent announcement does this concern come to light, the reality has been the same this entire time, but perception has suddenly skewed. Again, this goes back to apple's strictly enforced hard cap of testers per title. There's a bit of a misconception that inactive android testers will suddenly "rush" the beta server, but the reality is most people look at a beta once or twice and never return. It takes a certain mindset to willingly play the same game twice on an extended, regular basis and the experience isn't for everyone.

Thanks Ktjn, those words are very empathetic and heartwarming to be honest when I got into beta for the first time I didn’t fully understand what I really signed up for (although I did carefully read through beta-faq), and a part of the reason was indeed for early access/demo cuz I was curious about new season content. But with time I started to like the bug hunting and participating in the dev process. It’s just so much fun. And all these friends I made along the way are a great treasure to me. I already loved Sky a lot before being a beta tester, and beta testing just makes my game experience more wholesome and get me to love Sky more for the efforts and details behind it, and for all the wonderful experiences it brought to so many people all over the world

I don’t know how it works on Android but on iOS when game crashes, you have a pop-up that asks if you want to send the crash info to devs. I usually choose yes, and also bug report on discord, providing as many details as I can

i rarely crash. literally the only crashes I've had were when literally everyone was crashing which is good for me! idk if my reports would make much difference at that point if everyone's crashing though since it's not a device end issue
