IAPs don't cost real money but it is for testing purposes. like SU47boi said, we don't have candle packs in the shop. And beta items could be wiped from our accounts at any time if the need arises with the devs so it's best not to join beta for the items. We're here to help the devs make the game better for the live players by reporting bugs and giving our feedback

Yeah. Just friended a capeless moth that just joined wanting to know why they can't buy candles packs.

people can be confused at first, which is understandable since there are slight differences on how a beta account is treated rather than a live account. it's best to play it as if you were a normal/newer player to the game for a better way to test out new patches and updates since you're focusing on their perspective rather than someone who's been playing the game for a long time.

I was trying to ask if they had collected any winged light and told them that we don't get candle packs because we should play and test the game. They said that was unfortunate and said they were going to go to sleep. So I tried as much as I could.

they might not even know they're on a beta program. Google kinda just has it out in the open with normal apps and if someone in google invites leaves, it opens a spot for new people to join. So they might have downloaded beta not even knowing it was beta

of course it's good to have different perspectives for the game. especially for newer players. but it is concerning that there are players in beta that don't understand the differences between live and beta, since they are supposed to get invites through discord after reading #beta-faq (although we know people don't read ) android invites are a bit different, but even still, a tester should know what they're going into first. I've had to redirect a few players who didn't know that they weren't in the live game

It might be best to play like that but I just can’t sit through all the elevators in vault if a summit meditation quest comes. I think both sides has advantages, playing with the perspective of a new player is great to find what might be confusing and hard for new ones. Playing as a not ‘normal’ player might discover other kind of bug, which could have gone to live if they did not. there are some extremely players in live too, if not us then they will surley found those loopholes

oh yeah, there are a lot of different types of testers. i have friends that play beta just like they would in live, and i have others who actively try to break the game in crazy ways. the access wipes do a good job at letting all types of players into beta!

fan or not it's been told time and time again that one should never join beta for whatever "rewards" they want to deem, which there aren't any. to be honest i just wish progress wipes were a lot more common followed by the access wipes already in practice, though that's just an opinion.

Oh, I certainly didn't join for anything other than helping tgc and gaining a more nuisanced understanding of the game. I am just not looking forward to it, that's all.

progress wipes seem like they're a long process to go through though, which is probably why they don't happen more often. i don't really see a way for them to do more thaa wipe every season. i don't think that would make sense.

I don't know, I could see why they wouldn't want to do progress wipes too often. It does help sometimes to have players who already have some items unlocked, because there have been some cases of a bug affecting older items too and not just new ones. So having some of those older items unlocked for some players might help people catch it early enough

Progress wipes reduces the chance to discover bugs involving older cosmetics tho, that’s the other side. I think seeing fun bugs like lime valley or pink prophecy pole, wing fountain is enough reward

that's true, though i don't want progress wipes to be that frequent, that would be worse of a pain to wipe out so much information. there are benefits with older individuals testing out bugs for older cosmetics, but sometimes i really wish a progress wipe would come just for the sake of people getting to aggressive with their entitlement. this is more of a personal issue though.

Progress wipes seem counterproductive now that we are getting these new upgraded capes and expensive event items. How is anybody supposed to test that stuff if nobody has progressed that far? I think the access wipes are enough

When I refer to progress wipes as being something I'm not looking forward to, for me, it isn't items as much as actual progress. Having to run everything and collect all the spirits in all the realms just to be able to properly go everywhere so I may test new content is what pains me.

I get what you mean bread, unfortunately there are always going to be some people like that, but I think doing access wipes more frequently is enough for now to get a new batch of testers each time, along with some consistent testers that do a good job of posting here and testing things from experience. The people who just want beta for "cool points" will realize after a time or two of testing that it's not really that cool and probably not bother as much anymore

I do think we get enough fresh faces with the access wipes and invite waves too that major changes to the early parts of the game do get enough testing done too. Not saying there won't be a progress wipe. but having that variety of fresh faces and old faces is helpful in it's own way

i have noticed that this round had a lot more active users in beta than previously. when the first wipe happened, around 90% of players dropped beta after the first 2 weeks or so i think the access wipes are doing a good job at getting more active testers into beta! more friends!

Tbh I thought its gonna be a hard to build the same kind if friendship in beta, what i got in live before i applied. I wanted to try alone here, if live was just a very lucky accident and I didn’t tell my friends i applied, who also got in to beta that time. My experience was that if I try and put the same effort into building strong friendships as I did when i first started playing live, it’s basically the same. I met incredible people here and all of us have at least one common interest beta

yeah, it's pretty much the same as live in terms of making friends in beta. although it probably seems harder since beta is quieter. there's also the perk of having beta being based through discord. there are lots of players here who'd love to be friends with you, whether to just test something or to hang out

Yeah, beta friends are... Unique friendships compared to live. You never know if they will make the next invite wave or even if they decided to participate in the next cycle... Most of us who stick around a born bug hunters, so you get to see some... Interesting bugs you never knew existed. (Table/swing/etc skating as an example. )

Back to existing beta problems, what can I do with my broken constellation (if anyone had this problem before)? Its getting worse and more and more people start appearing as unlit. I have no clue if they got any of the lights or hearts i sent

that's a visual bug that happens to me a lot on live. I've confirmed many times people are getting the lights from me. usually only happens if I block then unblock a large number of people at once though

I had that problem for MONTHS in live and it just miraculously “fixed” one day. I sent a ton of bug reports but never really got a response

To know if your heart is sent in this case: if your candles get deducted then your heart is sent. And if your candles can’t get deducted despite the fact you click on the send a gift button then it’s mostly likely your friend already received their heart you sent before

Hmmm, maybe that friend who can't receive the heart is also bugged and can't see you already sent them a heart in the friend constellation... the bug has evolved! It's now a butterfly. (Is it just me, or do we not have a butterfly tamer emote? )

Oh yep that’s happening too guess they got it. However i tried with one of them direct gifting and the moment he clicked on the accept my kneeling pose broke. I thought this only affects constellation but seems like it’s not just that.

man at this point I that would make a lot more people angry than the AP lock. I was hopeful for TS in orbit that one time they showed up there during that short lived beta bug. Give people who have seen the TS once more time to work on their constellation. people still worked for it but it wasn't under stress of you might never see this spirit again

TS is a catch up mechanism.. that allows new players and missed out players to grow relationship with non Seasonal spirits. It's integral part of the game.

It's not only f2p thing for sure. I know lot of people in live who joined during propechy and after who make regular IAP purchases regularly are so excited about TS.

I'm a f2p player myself, and I like the concept of ts, although it can be stressful when I dont think I have enough candles for the item I want. I wouldn't be too mad if they locked some nodes for ap holders, since I know that many games have locked content and im used to that. Of course, the way ts was implemented, there would be a lot of backlash should some items become locked for f2p players.

its probably continuing since more and more seasons are coming, and more and more players are coming, so the new ones obviously need to catch up. ts in 5 years gonna be like "ok so which of the 80 spirits r gonna come this week"

But it’s functioning as something players can work for even when they finished constellations and removing these spirits would mean all the emotes and cosmetics will go to waste eventually as the player population ‘ages’. Less and less player had certain things in game but this way it’s like recycling? Why wouldn’t you use something which is already there to entertain the players instead of pushing out new content more frequently? Just my thoughts ofc.

There is no set pattern for the invite waves. They purposely don't have a pattern to prevent predictions. Only thing that is concrete is invite waves will come sometime after the access wipe.

There are a few of us giving feedback on the DL system. If you can't test that, it's perfectly fine. Beta is more than just the DL system. We test new cosmetics, making sure there's no clipping, texture errors, feedback, etc. We test events, seasons and other features before they hit live.

Beta is also fully voluntary. If you don't have the time to test that week/day, please, don't feel obligated.

To add on (don't want to edit ping), some of the best feedback is on the cosmetics and seasonal quests/area. In a live services game, that is most important as people are spending money on the AP cosmetics and it's harder to change those after they hit live. Also, feedback on seasonal quests for the same reason. Can't change much once the quest and area hits live.

If it's necessary, they could change the DL system's balancing after it hits live. If you feel you can't add much to the next beta cycle, you could bow out one beta cycle and come back. You won't get any criticism from anyone if you need a break. I took quite a long one after the billion fire trial runs in beta, so I totally get wanting to take a break.

we've had larger numbers in beta before. android stress testing had about 25,000 testers iirc. and that was just for android. so i think the beta servers will be fine. it might even help us pinpoint spots that lag a lot due to a larger number of players

There isn't a set cadence for the timing between when a season ends, invites, or new content testing. We've been quietly removing inactive testers for about 2 months, which really has made no impact on what we've been testing in that time. Android stress testing a year ago worked out the vast majority of server load issues, we had hundreds of thousands of people on beta at one point that really pushed it to the limit. Lots of things can contribute to lag, but it's been a long time since it was due to the number of active players at one time.

There's so many things to test in beta. I for one test different things all the time. Sometimes I simply log on to test burning of darkness after an update.

Sometimes when I have time, I try to play like I do in live and see any unusual things I can report while collecting WL, wax, and even how the cosmetics look in different lightings.

We all have different ways of enjoying the game in live and testing the game in beta...

I usually do my stuff alone in beta. My friends there are mostly active in their live accounts and we rarely meet in beta. Other players will see me only as a shadow. How would they know if I'm a sincere or insincere player?

That’s not how I understood it. IOS users still get to stay, as long as they are active in beta. It’s also not something TGC has any power over, since Apple and Google manage these things differently.

the issue is that due to google’s changes it’s a lot more difficult to wipe access for android users. in the case of hacking it wouldn’t be reasonable to hold spots for newer members just because a small percentage of them want to exploit the game

@steady pond bruh you know downloading APKs is against the Terms of Service, right? It could cause a lot of performance, account and malware issues for you. Trying to use APKs will result in download problems and may result in account data loss and inability to contact TGC support. APKs cannot be used to bypass the device incompatibility and do not help TGC with beta testing at all. Please don't use them or discuss them here.

What most of them do or can do is nothing more than fashion show, while normal testers are playing the game because they love playing the game. They can be frustrating but focusing on the fact that while we play we gain a lot of experience and our time there is useful for the development process, gives a little satisfaction at least. Working for things, makes me appreciate them more than just getting them. Just an example, a few weeks ago i was talking with one who told me they can do this and that, and i could actually do the same thing without using any illegitimate method, which surprised them a lot. My point is doing it the normal way is harder, slower, requires more energy and time, but it’s way more fun, i certainly learn a lot of things this way and I can appreciate more what I get. The financial side of the story is not our problem to deal with luckily .

If you manage to get in when the invites comes out logging into the same google account which is linked currently will preserve your progress on ios too . Just make sure your google acc is linked and you log into the same one on ios.

If i understood correctly the difference is that google has unlimited spots for testers so they dont have /can’t to remove beta players who applied once, but for new ones they still need to give invite links to be able to join. While testflight has limited spots, to be able to have enough active ios testers, they can’t just leave everyone in. If they want to invite new ones they need to free spots by removing inavtive players.
Moths can came from different sources as far as i know , either applied to someone’s place on android who left the program, or they are secondary accs using an already existing access, or they came from a not legitimate place.

It hasn't been specified, but try to play as much as you can and maybe be a bit more active when there are specific updates. And on iOS, keep updating whenever there is a patch.

I think a good rule of thumb is, if you don't feel interested or engaged enough to be in beta anymore it's a good time to leave. It can feel a lot like a chore sometimes.

#beta-faq has a bunch of super useful info about how the process works exactly, but you basically need to react the roles there and when they publish the invites you will get a ping notification. The only thing you have to do after is click on the right link android/ios and download the app. (For ios you need to download testflight first tho)

It has to do with how Google's beta program works compared to Testflight (Apple's). Apple has a hard limit or 16,000 testers. Google has no limit. Before, TGC would do an access wipe and clear everyone from beta. Google changed their Beta program where the developer cannot do an access wipe anymore. Personally, I think Apple should just remove that hard cap, but... Apple will be Apple.

On a side note: a good chunk of players are only active in the first few days, then never log back in. I remember during the prophecy wipe when ktjn had to manually remove testers, there were a lot of players who were inactive for over 3 months. This new system will make sure those spots are filled with players who will help test. Think about it. 13,000+ people get in beta, see what beta really is and poof forever.
