@sand dawn As long as you still only need one meditation circle for it to work, maybe. Locking it behind a 2-player mechanism is a bit heavy-handed. Alternatively, what about two statues per circle? One player can light them, but it'a another nudge toward two players.

Is anyone actually enjoying doing these trials?? This is not fun. Way too hard, badly designed, nothing but frustrating. If you're doing them by yourself, its basically impossible to get through fire. A huge amount of repetition with very little reward. The levels themselves are "nice", but the mechanics are horrendous.

i do find enjoyment in the challenge, the other facets of sky have gotten a bit boring after running them nearly every day. theyre also meant to be easier with more friends, but i understand your feelings of frustration. i think because theres not too much of a reward, they become optional/things to do later when you feel like it. as uzephi said, #beta-feedback is a great place for constructive comments to be heard.

The first three aren't so bad, but again...the mechanics are a bit frustrating. I can't even get through fire by myself. Having things come at you in both directions when you can't even see what you're trying to avoid is ridiculous. I just don't get it....it doesn't really fit in with the vibe of this game. And imagining having to go through this after every time I go to eden? nuh-uh.

Exactly. I am a gamer who likes a challenge. I do extreme trials on another game I play were one misstep from your party of 8 will mean a wipe. But a forced death in a trial or challenge is just cruel and unusual punishment IMHO. Eden's death is different as it has purpose.

In the end, you will never make everyone happy. For some it will be too hard, others too easy. TGC is trying to find the right balance and I appreciate they brought something new to the game. Pakka - Velo is magic.

Believe me, I love the other 3 trials, mainly because its more about platforming, and that hasn't been something that we could really do since we fly. Fire trial is just really frustrating and doesn't seem to.... fit what the others are doing.

The idea is good, but it's too dark and there's not enough information about the things you're trying to avoid. Maybe, for one thing, the fire-splotches (whatever they are) need personalities so we can tell them apart? Also, the timeout for solo running out of light is way to short. It's ridiculous.

Another thing to note is that this is the first time we've ever faced an instakill enemy. Even krill give fair warning before attacking.
Right now, the warning (rumble) for the shadow spirits is broken, so they're very unfair right now in my opinion. That's probably where a lot of the frustration comes from

yeah, I thought the fire trial would be similar to the other trials but involve, well, fire. I haven't finished the latest version of the Fire trial because I left the game and then used the return shrine to go back and it just kept killing me because I had been away too long the fire went out Overall though, it's not too bad. It's more aggravating than challenging though, tbh, just because it's more "run through the dark and light candles and dodge flying monsters" than "go through an obstacle course"

If fire trial was ever a daily, I would skip that candle for the day in its current state. If they don't change fire trial before it hits live, I will only do it once and cheese it like kai did with a piggy totem pole.

I think it was a clever design giving you wl as a reward for making it through the trials. It fits perfectly with the narrative. However, I've written those wl off. I don't care how much longer it will take me to get to 150, it simply isn't worth the stress and time demand (for me) to get them back everytime I get krilled or go to Eden. I had an idea that once you have completed each trial, anytime after that you need to retrieve the wl that you got at the end of the trial would instead just be waiting in the trials shrine where you would teleport to the trial from. It might be a game mechanics nightmare though, I have no idea. And yes I submitted this suggestion.

Khe: With every new season added into the TS pool, there are new wingbuffs available to buy from them. I’m personally pretty ok with the trials giving winged light cause it’s a very optional reward. There might be a period when doing these trials will give people enough for a new wedge but it’s still not a mandatory thing

I can see that, too....I have no problem with "challenge", but that involves expiring maybe a few -five times for seasoned players. This repetitive krill-fest that they have going in isn't satisfying, even for those of us who want a challenge. And really, I think they're barking up the wrong tree. The levels are great, and the ideas are cool. I actually think the whole paradigm behind fire trial is really good, it's just the mechanics that need adjusting.

Another view of mine but I won't drag this one long- the Earth trial doesn't make much logical sense, it's just a maze located in an outer space like location with everything white and empty The purpose could be debated but to me it makes the least sense in design compared to the other trials

Water, earth and air aren't extremely difficult to solo compared to doing with friends like fire trial is. That's the part that's confusing. I personally think they made fire trial more difficult for friends and a bad unintended side effect is it is impossible to solo without forced death areas.

He flew up to the ceiling near the fire trial door area and then the spirit is triggered and he ran around reliving it . I got some screenshots too. But the thing is, the reliving blue icon didnt appeared in my screen when it went through me. So is it a hack or a glitch?

I feel like air & fire especially are taking the path of platformers that are purposefully supposed to make you rage quit. It might be seen as challenging and satisfying when you've actually beaten it, but those types are games are beaten once, then never again. Just my opinion

He flew up to the ceiling near the fire trial door area and then the spirit is triggered and he ran around reliving it . I got some screenshots too. But the thing is, the reliving blue icon didnt appeared in my screen when it went through me. So is it a hack or a glitch?

Yeah, the way fire trial is currently, unless patch notes specifically state changes to fire trial (not the vague note these last two updates) I won't touch it anymore. Last three builds felt exactly the same in difficulty and right now, fire trial is going to be a trial I do once just for the completion on live. I hope they checked all our feedback and change it to be more fun again instead of a "rush to next candle, light, die, run back to light next" in some of the areas.

fire trial is a MAJOR pain as someone photosensitive going solo. took 2+ hours (I lost count) and I was essentially lighting one candle at a time and dying and I had to wait extra long after dying because of the white flash screen. That white flash is gone but the screen shake for worms is still meh (I think removing the white flash was what changed between yesterday and today)

I liked the old air trial better, the visual aesthetics of this one are great, but I liked the difficulty + direction of the grey scaled version better... am I the only one? The slide for instance in the air trial feels so tedious, cause literally the ground is so slippery, you can slip off -_-

That one curved icy slide in Air feel more like luck than skill. I was able to pass coz it ... i was lucky and landed on the ground.

Even with my experience with platformers, I still found the air trial hard. I can't imagine what it's like for people not that used to gaming.
For me, water took about 7, I can now finish earth in 4 minutes, air takes me like a half hour, fire is endless, usually because of bugs and extreme frustration

Fire trial reminds me of a Kaizo level, but instead of learning/mastering how to do a new mechanic, it's just a forced death. Not much learning or reward getting further. Seems more tedious than "more difficult."

Jae I’m totally a non gamer type. The last game i played besides sky , was Ori and it was a while ago. Air took me around 25-30 mins too,. From my point of view I don’t see a big difference between ppl who are use to do these kind of games and those who are not. But maybe it’s just me.

To an extent as well I think it's unreasonable for a trial to take more than about 30 minutes. There are some days when I literally only have enough time to run in and do the quests and grab seasonal candles. Not everyone can devote an hour to a single trial. Many who aren't avid would probably give up out of sheer frustration.

In my view, the first three trials are totally doable with proper timing and practicing, getting used to and dealing with mistakes and improving, except a few points when it's a little luck based but the fire trial feels mentally taxing to do everytime and I can complain about that too

In air before the last update there was a checkpoint that didn't seem to catch. Even if I didn't fall in the wrong direction, every time I died I got sent back to the one before. I haven't been able to get that far again in this update to see if it still happens.

So this is the second time I’ve done the trials since they’ve been updated and I can’t even get past water. I don’t know if it’s because I’m chibi sized but I literally cannot make the jump from a iceberg to clear landing. It seems quite impossible. My only enemy in the fire trial is the 2nd floor part when the candle routes diverge and you literally don't know where to go next, after that it's just gambling on luck and time to light up candles and find an exit, there is no strategy there

@vocal coral That's been happening to me for the last several updates. I'm coming to suspect that there may be a bug: you'll find people here who will swear up and down that standing on a candle slows down the drain, but I don't think it always works for everyone.

The reason for the difficulty could just be due to lore stuff because it's a competition of survival to the end as shown in murals unlike a journey to rebirth like Eden

Based on the very first itineration I thought this was the main challenge, plus you have to time not being away from the light when the fire dust bunnies get too close (or u dead).

@dawn pollen If standing on a candle is not survivable, then they need to convey what you DO need to do to survive. If they can't do that, then the level is fundamentally flawed and needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

kai, i suspect it involves your friend physically having half of the pin set since the You and I pin is literally two pins (sharing the same STAR ID) on a detachable chain
though if you mean whether the "pin owner" can be allowed to share the other half of the set with multiple friends, that's a good question

the spell description says "for the next five minutes, you can warp to your favorite friend regardless of friendship level" so it's warp not teleport and it looks like the pre-requisite is being a "favorite" friend. so if I remember to favorite them before candle run I can probably warp to any friend for 5 minutes and wait for spell cooldown

you definitely can't join a friend in a trial via the constellation, you get an error message along the lines of "This friend is currently doing a challenge" -- i'm not entirely sure how well joining via the return shrine would be if you sat down at the same time

the trials themselves also have some instance splitting issues, particularly earth: i find that if you don't die right after your friend does, you're commonly separated until after you've both finished the trial
air trial, i find some of the jumps and windiness pretty challenging, but i find it tolerable because the conditions stay the same and i'm able to repeat it at my own pace without needing to wait much for anything; it's different in fire trial since there's very little you can do to grasp the timing of the ghosts and longer wait times

you can rejoin your friend in earth trial by yeeting yourself off the edge over and over until you die at the same time and re-merge it was hilariously frustrating since I'm chibi usually and slide off the edge too easily

I find that being randomly flipped into flight mode during the Trial of Air has messed me up multiple times. While we are capeless for the trials we should never be able to go into “flight” mode because we do not have capes to fly with. 😰

flight mode can actually be helpful in the air trial, i use it to extend my lateral movement and skip some platforms here and there

LEGEND, i haven't had an issue with flying to the prophecy cave entrance, though for anyone with lower flight power, they could probably take the path towards the dawn temple and then surf the clouds to get over -- i get the feeling that the cave of prophecies isn't really for players who don't have at least 5-6 wedges though

@random coral Yep. It's actually possible to start from the ledge after the beginning cave and get all the way to the Cave of Prophecy's constellatiob gate without touching the ground, if you use midair deep calls to get the butterflies to recharge you.

to be fair, you could make the argument that having access to all cosmetics allows you to test all combinations to see if any weird clipping is occurring -- but doing that also sacrifices testing on other elements such as how well the price points are being set if there isn't at least some kind of pressure on what you can buy based on how your candle income is limited

I can see an argument for making the chibi mask and the chat table cheaper in Beta. These two cosmetics affect the world and the way you interact with it, and tend to be glitch-prone and therefore need more testing. But most cosmetics don't work like that, and I'm not sure any seasonal cosmetics do.

The corridor after 2nd level you have to die at least twice and time it perfectly to do that. I personally can't get past that corridor of 5 candles without a death per candle due to the timing of the dust bunnies.

I understand the worry, but outside temperatures can exceed 42C in most parts of the world. The phones were engineered to handle up to real world temperatures. It got to 47C last month here. Would be a drag if going outside with my phone shortened it's life span. (The 75C temp was the sensor at my phone's CPU. The CPU Silicon can handle 92C before thermal break down and my phone actually shuts down if temps get close to damaging it. @carmine thorn the fire trial is super simple if you are holding someone’s hand and you both keep your candle out. Even a direct hit doesn’t take you out. At least it didn’t for me. Piggyback works even better!

Try it solo and come back to me on that. Also per Stellify, that isn't supposed to happen and is a bug. The dust bunnies are supposed to extinguish your light, even when holding hands or carry.
That sad thing with fire trial, is it's laughably easy with a friend and cruel and unusual punishment going solo

It isn't that much of a difficulty spike though elsewhere in the game. I've done solo CR and WL runs and they are not near as bang head against desk as fire trial is.

My tips for fire trial are:
1. First of all, it's fine to struggle with it, because then you can send your personal feedback about it. Try to create your own method to pass it.
2. It's all about timing, when you think it's time to go, go! Watch out for the fuzzies and try to predict them.
3. Zoom out your camera and see from above, with a little higher brightness you will be able to see their routes.
4. Probably the best one: bring a friend, it gets really easier if you help each other.
5. Deep call also works to see them, but they need to be close.

Cosmetics are part of testing, but the emphasis is always on gameplay and other features. But if there is a new instrument, it's good to check that it works properly, for example. Clipping issues with hair/capes etc isn't prioritised, but can be added to bug reports also.

I have a cooler that keeps phone cold which resolved this issue .. So it could be a temperature thing 🤍... Try putting your phone infront of a fan while playing to see if it works

I've only play enchantment and sanctuary, and the events were 1 per week, but all the spirit were already there. I thought this new season would be the trials will be 1 trial released per week, while all 4 spirit will already be in the cave like the pass 2 seasons.

The one for reporting a player? Basically, the second node on the right side is the button to press, as long as you are able to light someone up.

@vale lagoon The idea of purple comes from witchery and mysticality. If the cape wedges were neon green, then it's understandable, but if it was a large portion of a dark-themed cape then it wouldn't sit well with the general visual appeal.
Earth cape's green is ok because:
- The entire thing is green
- There isn't too strong of a contrast unlike the web cape

@warm escarp try to look for a pattern in them and look out for safe candles. Sometimes it’s ok to run and light as many candles as you can first, this way you will know where to go. Bringing a friend HELPS A LOT as well.

It's timing, try to remember their routes and zoom out to see from above so you can see them floating, and then go for it before they catch you, because if they do, there really isn't anything you can do

For anyone who is having problem with crashing in Eden.
- When flying with the spirits, turn off your wifi/cellular
- When you reach the point with your friend’s sky kid (and no more spirit), reconnect to your wifi and play as normal.

i couldnt get a chance to record it, but ill put in a report with my best explanation, it just was really sucky that i didnt realise that i needed to "fake" relight the candles when i got to the other checkpoints, so that it would activate again

@hollow compass they didn't. I think changing the automatic checkpoint system to the lanterns you light up was an attempt at that, but it didn't work. It still happens.

They gathered "the chosen ones", the spirits that we save as skykids now, in order to train them in the four trials that they constructed, and prepare them for the task that they would bestow upon them. Their purpose was to warn and inform the rest of the civilians about the looming downfall, and salvage whatever they could from the once flourishing kingdom. However, they failed to properly persuade the people as "they didn't listen" (what we are told when starting the game). Thus, they resorted to gathering their last light into winged light, to facilitate the journey of the next generation, the skykids that will be sent to restore the glory of Sky. They also shaped the winged light just like the skykids themselves, so that the clueless children that will first venture into the realms will be able to understand that the winged light are helpful.

@frigid knot stay right over the candles and let fireboi pass, many times you will make it if you stay in the light. Also go with a friend who has warp with you it helps a lot

Uhh you know the hole up in the ceiling the prophecy cave, where it used to be an oob area. TGC changed it into a legitamite secret area
