So right now there’s like two groups of players. “New experience” ones are those who only see TS in Aviary (at least this is how to differ it in current live). And “old experience” people would be me who can see TS both in home and Aviary.

New experience ones has new cutscenes in every Elder temples. It shows the aviary shot in the end. And they have a new elder cutscene in Eden: once you enter orbit, the elder comes, and then shiny kids wave at you at the end. While my beta main doesn’t have that, my beta alt does. And beta alt’s mask got recharged after viewing that scene.

There is no interaction with the deer🦌you only see it move from one side to the other, I hope you take my suggestion and give the option that players who see the deer can ride it as in the mission.

Maybe they could implement something like the oreo area at daylight prairie, one person with the cape would be required for people to be able to summon the deer.

Once the deer is there, people would be able to take turns to ride on it's back just like with Oreo. Also, the deer could take us on a little walk around the seasonal area or even a whole new place, all while we ride on it's back. They could also implement a little afk farming area whike the deer is there.

Latest update for recording app changed to internal recording mechanism has rendered my ability to do Screen recordings of all Sky/Beta interactions of the Graphic User Interface, the User interface, the system user interface, the touch locations, the pointer locations trackers, the X,Y information, the interactive data, the Hit-boxes interactive data, and other diagnostic information that Google play Games screen recorder can access, is not accessible in the internal Sky/ Beta Recording Mechanism.

These changes has rendered my ability to do detailed Debugging reports with Android Debugging Tools w/ Dev. Tools enabled useless. Now I can't do proper bug reports with Precise Detail to be sent to TGC.

I think the shard lights could still be collected in beta, it was the shard memory that would crash the game but a lot of other bugs carried over.

I still believe that Sky's programming is deliberately messy, but since it is messy, this makes it very difficult to fix bugs (Spaghetti code).

People in here were convinced the desaturation was intentional (since it's been requested for literal years in this server) and most were very happy with it. The fact that it's a bug is just even more frustrating, since the reasons people were happy with it were for accessibility.

Until 2021 the game didn't even have an option to control the volume of the game (SFX And music) and when they added it, it didn't work properly
As well as a separate option to control the game's graphics options, as I see in most or all of today's games.
So.... I have the same question as you: why beta?
Only if it's to test new cosmetics or seasons in advance, because I think that reporting bug fixes is non-existent and they only fix them when they want to.

Beta content has always been a source of hype for live-only players because unlike most betas, this one is really easy to view and access. My personal theory is that beta is only kept around to make sure 1) items are wearable/usable/not breaking anything else, 2) that Seasons don't break, because that loses them money, and 3) to keep the live players interested with the promise of new content that they can easily confirm. I don't think anyone in the dev team actually reads bug reports anymore.
I also don't exactly have the best opinion of/relationship with some of the TGC staff members, so my view on this might be tainted.

Most are, yes. But the reason for beta is so that there are fewer bugs that make it to the "real" game. Most of the bugs seen in #known-issues (in the past few weeks) are things that are well-known and have been reported in beta since they appeared. They should not be in the live game causing issues, and that shouldn't be something debatable.

Bugs are more complicated to fix than just a flip of a switch. And sometimes when going in to fix one bug, more pop up after. Not only that, a fix for one bug may work for one platform, but the other platforms would become even buggier. Just in general, bug fixing is quite difficult task.

No one is saying it isn't hard work or complicated. I'm saying these updates shouldn't have been released with multiple game-breaking bugs one after the other. That's a quality-control issue, and will cost TGC users if it continues, because no one likes playing broken games. I think I speak for a lot of the playerbase when I say I would rather a late, working update than an on-time broken one.

And fixing bugs becomes much less time-consuming when you literally have players explaining step-by-step in detail what causes these things. If this was a tiny indie game, it would be much more understandable. But it isn't.

When I started beta ~3 years ago, there were almost no escapee bugs that made it to live. TGC read the bug reports, released fixes in the beta and regularly communicated with their beta users about bugs and bug fixes. This is a recent problem that can't just be excused away with, "Bug fixing is hard!"

hi someone with some insight on how game dev actually works i promise you game bugs are not easy to find as you think they are. games will never be fully bug free, esp not with the team that TGC has witch is small for a game with a playerbase this large. they are a smaller indie studio. i dont think they Can sacrifice events bc thats what bring players back to the game 99% of the time. the social aspect cannot hold the game itself, it Has to be the mechanics they offer which is the seasons at the end of the day. also, due to the fact that recent sky's popularity has Boomed and some huge game changing things have happened.... i feel like their team is very small for the game they run, which is a harder thing to tackle bc the game industry rn is in shambles. try to be understanding, game dev is hard and games will never fully be without glitches!! sorry for the long paragraph but i just wanted to put my thoughts in as someone who is studying game dev :)

In fact, my understanding is that the current update schedule is more likely to cause stress. This is a genuine comment, I really don't get it. If there was more time between updates, there would be less crunch-y stress to get the next update in the game, and more time to fix bugs so the game is actually playable for the Live players.

An energy bar to depend on the graphics quality is super limited and in most cases makes no difference (especially on Android devices that have a low resolution).

Also on the topic of why do beta testers exist, well one it's a voluntary programme for players who want to help make the game fun for our fellow players, to help give feedback on something we're passionate about, and to help hunt for bugs - as frustrating as it can be seeing beta bugs make it into live, it's unfortunately part of the reality of gamedev and yes these last few updates to live in particular we've seen a fair few bugs escape into live, but that doesn't mean that tgc haven't been paying attention to our bug reports and feedback

But if you do feel like it's not worth it, then you don't have to keep doing it, it's okay to take a break if it's becoming too frustrating to go through the process and see bugs still escaping. I guarantee it's just as frustrating for tgc having to ship bugs and seeing how upset live players get when the game isn't functioning as it should.

Delays throw off schedules. Switch, for example, has a very specific update schedule, and thus throwing it off would be a detriment to switch players getting proper fixes and new content. It's why most hotfixes are for the other platforms.

i agree!! but i think the core issue with delaying content is the fact that the content with events and such is the main mechanic of the game, which brings people to the game over and over again. its their core mech of the game, and they cant push it back or the game will die within months. pushing it back leaves their company in a tight place, which could lead to company layoffs and such. plus, the game could become extremely inactive. its just too much of a risk to take away the main content cycle of the game.

A bug where a person who has added you on facebook and whose account is linked to Sky appears in your game whenever you log in, even if you remove or add them, the warning doesn't disappear forever, only temporarily, and I've had this for years, it's frustrating to see that TGC still hasn't fixed this bug even though they are aware of it, there are several solutions to solve it but so far nothing, and honestly it made me want to delete my account just to remove this (and remove people from the block list who have done me bad in the past).

We're all aware of "the purpose of Beta" the discussion was more rhetorical. If Beta users are not being valued, used, or listened to, then why not just shut it down? It takes more time, energy, and money to run it than if it was gone, which it practically is.

I've taken my fair share of breaks from beta for almost this exact reason. There are serious issues in the way TGC runs this game and it's communications with its beta testers, but there are always people running to defend these obvious lapses in game quality and staff judgement. It gets exhausting seeing other beta players try their best to get the game in good condition for our Live counterparts only to be ignored by the devs. I understand the "just leave" argument, but if everyone with an issue left beta testing, there wouldn't be a lot of testers left.

And honestly, that's not the point. The point is, you shouldn't run a beta if you aren't going to use your testers feedback and reports. It ends up feeling disingenuous in the long run.

Doing your "big" chores like cleaning your room and leaving the little ones like laundry or dusting for later is still being lazy. TGC fixing certain things and not others is still a problem.

I am a live game player, and nowadays I don't even download the update as soon as it's released because I know it would be full of bugs. Not being able to teleport to a friend or not being able to do the 2nd phase of a shard event, these bugs really are irritating, not to mention the continuous server splits. And when I hear beta players saying they have reported these bugs way before, then it's a bit concerning that how at least these bugs weren't fixed before putting it in live.
Yeah game dev is hard. But if they are concerned about their consumers, then they should fix these important bugs otherwise we, live players, won't be able to enjoy the game as it is meant to be. They can prioritise to fix some bugs atleast, before sending it to live.

Yes, there is a lack of transparency and more positioning from the TGC team, I know there is an internal beta test but they also need to communicate and be more direct with the beta testers.

It's honestly a mixed bag of emotions when it comes to beta bugs appearing in live, because it's also like we're used to things being broken so sometimes I just sit and go oh heck here we go again, but other times I do find myself upset at it.

But I know that whilst I'm frustrated, it's likely tgc are too, it's not their aim to send out builds that prevent players from playing and enjoying the game.

I wish at times we could have more communication, I wish at times I understood why things break and why they can't get fixed before live, but the reality of it is tgc don't owe us an explanation for the work they do behind the scenes and they likely don't always have the time or the freedom to share what's going on because they're busy working on the thing and also they can't just go around talking about all the inner workings of the game freely.

We do get dev notes at times, which is always a nice glimpse into the chaos, but honestly even just having them update known issues for us is pretty much the standard for any dev company.

Even I think that it could be the case where they see the bugs from beta reports, but still send it to live knowing that they are working on it (coz of the reason that keyth explained, they aren't able to delay updates). I think players need more new content coz the general gameplay of sky is a bit tiresome. It's different than other games which have different levels as u progress, and that's why too it becomes important for them to make new content every once in a while. But, hear me out, some bugs are really frustrating But, at the same time, I am glad that they bring it to notice as soon as the update is released. Because of that, I can actually wait for the devs to fix this. 😄

Sky is going down a bad path, the game becoming unstable with bugs only discourages me from playing, what's the point of having so much if you may be unable to play depending on the severity of the bug that may affect your experience, it's a double-edged sword, either choose a game with good quality but little content, or a broken game but with a lot of content.

Overall, I think it's a matter of TGC finding a way to bring new content without a lot of bugs creeping out. I don't have a lot of knowledge about game dev but I know about coding, and as a coder, it's frustrating to see errors pop up continuously, no matter how many changes you make to a program. So I also agree that bugs must have been a painful thing for devs to see. Hence I hope someday they find a way to launch update and content with lesser bugs in them.

It's unfortunately a more common problem than just Tgc too. Many games come out buggy and rushed so there is content to push out to players. Pokemon is a good example of this.

I think a "Communications" department would be a fix for a lot of issues players are having right now. Just a group of people whose literal job is to tell players what's going on and what's being worked on, so the devs and other staff members don't have to worry about it as much.

If there was communication there wouldn't be so many people upset/confused.
They could even use Community Shepherds and other community members for this.

Yeah we had shard and friend null bugs in beta, the shards were working again at one point (aside from the crashing when going to the memory), so I'm not even sure how it's ended up in live as it is

If Sky wasn't coded so strangely, I would say the server problem could be fixed easily. Alas, instituting a "choose a server" option like most large games have would probably involve the game being practically rebuilt from the ground up. They really didn't give Sky a good concrete base to sit on in that regards.

Edited to add what I mean: Most large games have the option to choose which server you join when you log on, and while you're playing you do not change from that server (unless it's forced because of volume issues, lag, etc. to keep said server intact). A couple of devs have said in past reports & direct player communications in this server that Sky's base code is just completely wack (paraphrased) so this likely is impossible (my personal takeaway).

Yeah that Android bug was SO annoying as an Android user. I don't usually get impacted by server bugs like that, but I got kicked more in one day than I have in my ~4 years of playing. I didn't play again until it was fixed.

To me, seasons feel rushed compared to 2021. Maybe it's because of so many platforms they have opened up to or something, but it just feels we get a lot more rushed feeling seasons to me. That's just how I feel though. I get it's complicated, but from my past seasons compared to now it just feels stuff is getting pushed out before it feels really ready or done.

There is either a balancing issue or level design issue in PNR. The wind implemented causes players to enter a pinwheeling animation when jumping, and when you are knocked down by rocks or consecutively blown away by wind during this pinwheeling-get up animation process, you are stunlocked. Because players were simultaneously given the freedom to run and jump again in the same update where the wind became very strong, they are experiencing these animation locks frequently.

Yeah it is weird, but it happens when things were already in the alpha testing before the beta test for playerbase so we only see from only one pov as a non dev

For example, imagine I do a big wip, but only teased it when it's close to completion, and it looks like I'm rushing it hahah xD

speaking of aurora, is there any way to "revert" the changes done to coliseum yet?? my friend refuses to even play the season bc they hate how it looks bc of the trees (and tbh i agree, i only like the glowing symbols)

Best part being a live only player is that I get a fresh experience in live even if I have seen some pics in beta

i like to beta test sometimes bc i have a snapdragon device, sadly i cant use my switch to beta test but idk maybe i'll find some snapdragon android stuff wrong to help others who didnt get into beta not struggle with those
(plus i struggle with a severe lack of direction, so learning about stuff while its in beta helps me a lot in live when helping friends)

I like to beta test cause I'm really into game development, however playing two different versions of the same game daily for 30+ minutes kills

I do not have the energy for that right now, especially with uni having started this week 😓

Usually it's not too long of a wait, probably around 1 to 2 weeks ( unlike Season of AURORA that was almost a month or more ). But then again, we can't know for sure until we get official confirmation in the #beta-announcements channel
