War depiction and its relation to real world goes back to Journey; this was never an issue for me.
What I’m trying to say is that people actually living the conflict might feel that either they don’t need that right now, or feel attacked.
The stereotyped cosmetics/colours feel very cliché to me.

I still feel that was planned maybe years ago before the irl conflict started, and it’s purely a coincidence on TGC part. They take inspiration for ideas for cosmetics from irl cultures, so this might’ve been their Eastern European influence without any attachment to current events

it’s not exactly stereotyped colours though? if you think about it, these are people living in GW. GW is pretty green, and so the soldiers fighting there could use camouflage for a combat advantage. Because of this environment, the outfits would be green so the fighters can blend in better and be able to well, fight better. And the rest of the greens in non-warrior outfits? my guess is that they’re there to say “hey look!!! these people right here?? not from vault!!! they’re from wasteland!!!” rather than to act as war stereotypes.

also on what Sol said, iirc a dev said once that seasons were planned out two years in advance. (or like they had seasons planned out for two years to come?) Assuming that’s true to this day, this season will have been planned out around a year before the war broke out

It just depends on the person in my opinion. Not everyone wears cosmetics just for looks, some enjoy different aesthetics, maybe they like stuff like that? There are also artists who create from items that already exist. I just think that TGC is trying to take a chance to step out of their bubble, compared to past seasons, if we're talking about it that way.

Just like with the torn capes, there are a lot of people who dislike the Season of Flight pants, because they're different and don't really fit the aesthetic of pre-existing cosmetics or are similar like more popular pant items.

What really breaks my heart? We could postpone any storytelling related to war while a specific conflict is happening. But those may go on for years. Or worse, they end, but then people in another part of the world start another war.

Sky is a place where we want everyone to feel at home and connected to others. But we also want it to be a place to have meaningful emotional experiences—and for those who choose to engage with them, ways to engage with themes of human life that touch us at our core. Life and death, persevering through adversity, redemption and forgiveness. You don’t have to, but if you choose to see them, they’re there.

This game is one of many types of art that has tried to do this, and we hope we get it more right than not.

In a fallen kingdom, we can’t tell players that everything was always happy and peaceful. The team has taken care to respectfully show the human impact of the fighting that happened in Sky long before Children of the Light arrived, rather than to glorify violence and conflict, and to show the journey of a group of spirits learning to recover as they grapple with painful pasts.

But that said, I also absolutely understand if the theme is heavier than some folks want. It’s okay to pull back from the story of this season if it’s overwhelming.

There’s the yellow light that alters the colours, but I’ve also noticed an increase in the way our internal light will affect surrounding objects.

For instance, the Fortune umbrella is red on top but yellow/brownish underneath.
I can’t see the colour of my passenger’s clothes sometimes.

My understanding is that the original goal had been to include an extra warp feature with the Aurora cape to make it more convenient to get to the Coliseum, but it ended up that there were issues with the tech that meant this wasn't feasible to get into the final version before the concert went live.

The central purpose of the cape though is to allow the player and the friends they bring with them to access the entirety of the Aurora concert, from the pre-concert Coliseum to the (copyrighted) music. I'm sorry to hear that it sounds like this wasn't what you were hoping for when you got it, though

Apparently theres also a tos for sky that says something basically like "by sharing your sky content with the community, we have the right to use it however we want" and i sure hope thats not true. If it is then im very confused

So I have a link to the TOS. I read the paragraph and it reads "We want you to create and express yourself freely, and you retain all rights in and to your User Generated Content." This means we still own the rights to our content. But furthermore, "By sharing your User Generated Content, you grant TGC the unrestricted, irrevocable, and non-exclusive right and license to reproduce, modify, and redistribute your User Generated Content, solely in connection with our games."

So from what I'm getting from this is that we have full rights to our content, but TGC is allowed to use our content, for example, they will post a Fanart used, or they could promote skytuber content.

The season name and items that it has in common with that artist's concept don't seem like they'd be that uncommon to come up with even in tandem though, victorian/old timey peasant-> past-> memory -> remembrance. I do still feel bad for the artist that things panned out this way regardless what the truth behind it ends up being though. If TGC had used the super cute and more unique patched and worn coat cape that the artist had in their concept I'd be 100% woah TGC not cool, pay them immediately though. ^_^;;

Well no idea is truly original. There have been many paper boy hats, and aprons before. I'm sure the idea of rememberance as a season name has come up before too. They're most likely investigating and making sure everything did go okay though, and if need be, the artist is okay too.

But until we know more there's no point in arguing with one another about it either because we all know plagiarism is wrong, but unless we know if this is a case of that we can't condemn anybody.

Upon updates seasonal prices can change as well (speaking about ults, some can cost less, some can cost more) - We can't say a rule of thumb there, this is the nature of beta.

Honestly it's iffy. It's always safer to wait a few updates to buy iaps since they can be changed around. But don't expect everything in beta to work right, or show up properly. And besides, most iaps get spells, so you can test them with those if you need to.

I really like where Remembrance is going with the mood and atmosphere, it keeps me entertained and engaged.
But some first ideas for cosmetics when concepts art are revealed make me go "whe we didn't have this?"

I'm confused about the way TOS became a topic since an accusation. Players are also free to share game content as their art or as their YouTube continent (and get the gains from it from views) therefore I don't understand why is it not fair for any gaming company use things which are (modified or not) made from their own intellectual property. If you do something on your very own which is not using someone's intellectual property as inspiration that's another story. But if I make a remix of any song or even a cover of it where only 4 notes match out of hundreds, I have to ask permission to release it otherwise all credit goes to the original creator and Sony knocks on my door. TOS is way more forgiving in this regard. I honestly can't comprehend how ToS is questioned based on assuming the worst whereas it seems TGC cares because they take action and contact the creator and this all is probably an accidental coincidence.

I get your point on that tgc is very forgiving in some aspects but to me that's two separate things. Their rights on using our fan creations is a different point from our right to make creations. They don't have to be treated like they're the same aspect.
The art thing that's been discussed here seems to be too many coincidences at the same time to me. If tgc takes inspiration from creations or if they ask before using those creations the I wouldn't have any issue with this.

I can’t find any evidence. The post on Tumblr that I saw was posted on December 21st 2022. The season came out on Beta the 1st of December or around that time.

The only confirmed date I have is the post that was made in comparison, which was 20 days after the season was already being tested and cosmetics had been being changed.
The post came out on December 21st, Sago’s announcement for the update was on December 1st. Other than that there isn’t any confirmed dates I can find besides “this is what happened” with no picture or link proof, so it’s iffy.

For the maple cape art test debacle I've heard there was a similar cape from someone else in wishlist who was actually contacted or something? I am sympathetic towards artists. So many of them have their works plagiarized on the internet. Just look at some recent NFTs that were sold. Even some pop artists have ripped off fan art for their album covers then refused to respond to the artist when contacted.

I just don't see enough to unequivocally state that this was the case and that the artist has done their own due diligence to clear this up. TGC can't comment on it so we're relying on only one side to disclose everything openly and I find it odd they don't even give the dates of their original posts that was allegedly stolen. It is also pointed out that this controversy came about 20 days after testing began and after several changes were already made to the costumes based on beta feedback.

Maybe the artist doesn't think they need to provide dates but I can't side with anyone without more information.

No offense to anyone, but it's highly unlikely for an individual to be noticed by a decently sized company like TGC unless said individual is high up enough in the social latter for several groups atleast. TGC probably gets well over a million pieces of fanart drawn for their IPs on a minute by minute basis, getting noticed would be akin to the rarity of winning a Genshin 50/ 50
So even if the concepts look similar, it would still have to be proven that TGC deliberately and maliciously copied this person.

-The crawl mechanic is just really annoying. I like the intended meaning behind it but it would have been better being limited to Eden
-Just the bizarre tonal difference between TGC wanting to make Eden less grindy and more meaningful, but actually just making it harder and more grindy

The cosmetics are fine, it's really subjective. But cool cosmetics or not, it doesn't save the main mechanic/event being poorly executed

We still can't really figure out what happened to cause this catastrophe lore wise. And some events are just too much to handle for the sake of 2-3 candles. Yes, I'm looking at you sunny forest area.
And these frozen visions are epic and stuff but it's not what we expected?..
The crawling at first seemed so interesting but in the long run this mechanic is simply so annoying. The fact that because of it I can't reach the last statue in eden having almost 200 wings is KILLING me inside. I cannot handle this.
Also has to wait for wl in shattering a whole few weeks to appear in the right room you haven't visited if you list wings/went to eden.
And of course, Krill ult could be so much better if it had red underside like in first build testing.

heres my pitch for a prairie season:
Season of Growth 🌼 (or something idk)
a group of kids and teens find a big open plot behind their village and want to make it a garden! each quest revolves around adding something new to it, kinda like assembly but without the required multiple players probably
these “new things” can be plants, like fruits and veggies, or structures, like fences or swings on the trees
the garden wld eventually serve as a playground/hangout spot kinda like the treehouse, but maybe with the added benefit of… something else idk. maybe a second unique spell shop kinda like the ark?

I'm glad the Crab Scientist did talk. Some times coincidence can be hard for people that make games, Been blamed for everything even wasn't intentional. While the Art -Idea Scandal, Sure, One of the guy that stole the -idea art probably should be the blame.

The art wasn't stolen, the "idea" is what they're claiming to have been stolen, which is debatable, although the artist is allowed to be upset about it, but I personally believe they're mistakenly attributing malice to a coincidence or miscommunication.

Tbf, I see a IG post that about Sky ToS. In A Nutshell, if you release a Art for Sky as "Public Content", TGC can use that Art for other things.

As a musician, part of why I don't usually share my own compositions is because of sonic coincidence - different musicians with no relation to one another coming up with the same chord progression or riff, resulting in similar sounding songs. No one is at fault, but it can be disheartening to create something you love only to be accused of plagiarism when you didn't know the other song existed.

The same thing can and does happen with every art form. Even the industrial arts (architecture, phone design, car design, anything you can think of). Sometimes it is blatant copying (ex, original has been out for a while, globally known household product or similar). But a lot of the time, it is just a coincidence.

So far, the sense I'm getting is that this is what happened with the current art debacle. It would be one thing if there was public documentation of this artist's ideas existing for a year give or take. But correct me if I'm wrong, their concept art was only shown after the season was announced? Unless they were a former tgc employee or privately sent their idea to tgc, I don't see this as being anything more than a coincidence

rly wish there was an option to disable bloom especially in water, the water in sunny forest is so crisp and clear when you swim in it but you go 2 strokes to the left into the tunnel and it gets all bloomy and blurry :(

i just wish accessibility was more of a priority in tgc's eyes because there are so many issues that they haven't addressed or refuse to acknowledge with the game. there's countless visual bugs, there's the honk radius/spam honking, there's light bloom and bright transitions, there's the fireworks and other flashing lights, i can go on and on about the eyestraining features this game has.
i remember putting in a lot of feedback about the aurora concert, specifically the flashing lights section of exhale, inhale and the seed (the seed was awful with all of the lightning and flashing lights), and in the end there wasn't even a warning put in place before the concert to let players know that the concert contained strobing lights.
these things keep getting skipped over or put on the back burners for later to put out new content, they don't understand just how important it is that accessibility features get implemented

In the beta concert they did put a warning... But only here on discord. Would be nice if they put things like that in the actual game

god i just realized there wasnt ANY warning for the concerts. i remember a ton of advocacy for one especially since we knew the concert was going to bring in a ton of new players who wouldn’t know it could be risky to play due to the lights in the concert (and just in general gameplay). They really need to have a warning in game, especially if we have something like the concert (which will no doubt pull in even more players) in game again. I don’t think the ios app store page or the google play store has any warnings for potential flashing lights for the game either. Nintendo technically does, but its a general warning under every game/app that’s available on the eshop.

I remember when shattering started, people were making guides on how to work around the intense brighness and bloom, and it’s absolutely gotten worse with aurora. I can’t explain the amount of times my eyes have been physically hurting from this game (a bit of light sensitivity plus bad eyesight in general) it’s actively harmful I feel. I’ve seen surveys where people have admitted to getting seizures for unwarned flashing lights in games. This is going to harm someone badly someday. Especially seizure wise if they fall off of a chair, bed, etc and hit their head

I'm not photosensitive yet the concert and sometimes shards (mainly eruptions) give me a headache. I can't even imagine just how bad it is for people that actually are photosensitive, it's ridiculous that there's no warning

agreed. as someone with epilepsy, mine isnt photosensitive but i have a friend who did have a seizure from the spam honking we had a few weeks ago. whenever i have an "episode", it does usually come with a "warning" that i can feel so whatever im doing, i try to put it down and lay on the carpet/bed or whatever its softer, but sometimes it just comes on too fast and i fall

G'morning beta chat! I've been thinking.. Does anyone else think that our current seasonal guide looks a little, for lack of a better word, bland? All of our recent guides have been quite beautifully made, especially Flight, Performance, Abyss.. The Remembrance guide looks like a completely random base game spirit and it's been bugging me quite a lot 👉👈

Even in the group picture we got of all the spirits together the guide just looks kind of..there. just off to the side like a random undefined bystander, it's a little sad, they don't even have hair, poor fella :'>

spirits wear the exact same type in the game. It already exists on their base model so having it be available as a cape similar to slouching soldier is totally fine lmao
if anything, one is broken in the middle incomplete, and the other is a total full shoulder collar so there's a nice distinction there

I kind of like the fact that a lot of the spirits have similarities to others, it makes it seem more like they are just people, just spirits among many from all over the realms that were brought together in their time of need to now just support each other, they aren't performers or magicians or seafarers, they are common folk :)

they are not some sort of protagonist, with distinct features and shining armor. they are just a vault scholar, doing their best to help people in need

Regarding the seasonal area, I wonder if with each quest we'll get to see the seasonal area become more comfy and lived in looking as the spirits slowly but surely make it their new home, that would be really wholesome, it goes from an old abandoned area of Vault to a comfy safe new home<3 It would also be in line with the focus on shared spaces, we share this new space with the spirits that now live there and they decorate it just as much as we do >u<
