I disagree with you and agree with Cro. Apart from the multiplayer aspect, they're the same game. Swap sand for grass or snow, and the connection will become more clear.

I don't think you're seeing all the similarities. They are both metaphors for a lifetime. The six or seven levels (areas) are a progression through childhood (where everything is easy but confusing) to old age (where you understand how it all works but there are many dangers), to the last level which is mostly one long simple slog with lots of memories. Get to the end and you're reborn.

Swap sliding along in sand, for sliding in grass and flying among clouds.

im not stupid, note that i said the formula is as old as tgc itself (cloud) meaning the whole story and other things are the same but expressed in different ways enough to be different yet impactful

it been refined and different ways were tried.

flow did the reborn
flower took it literally to the players' face
and journey tags along with a well known inspiration which happens to align
sky....... yeah i dont know much but its the culmination of all the above and detaching from the sony owned IPs and making it a sustainable business

So I got Sky first, then got Journey and Flower later when I discovered their existence- I noticed that the latter two were published(?) by Annapurna, but i never really thought about it until I stumbled upon another Annapurna game that I now adore (Sayonara Wild Hearts)… I’m not entirely sure what I’m poking at here but I wanted to rant about it somewhere that would sort of know what I’m talking about lol

I thiink there are some mentions that TGC is working on something else in a press post or two a while ago, but there is no information beyond that. I'm sure they have plenty of ideas they're working on in the background, but Sky as a live service game takes priority, and the Sky animation is probably also eating up a lot of resources, so any new game development (if there is any) is likely slow.

What adds to the confusion is that Matt Nava, the art director of Journey, left TGC to found Giant Squid Studios. That's why some of Giant Squid Studio's games might be mentioned as 'by the creator of Journey' or along the lines.
They're not TGC games, but they have some of the soul and vibes of Journey & Co, because one of the biggest creative heads behind Journey worked on them.

You, the traveler, just awaken with a sense of being drawn to the mountain, starting your pilgrimage to discover and learn about these ruins and their history you move through, until you reach the end and are reborn, starting the cycle anew.

I believe the ancient beings were gifted the blessing of the cloth magic stuff, but then like the ancestors of Sky: COTL, they began to abuse their power that brought about a great dark curse. The main character of Journey is brought to the land after ruin and is tasked with freeing the abused and trapped clothes and brining balance back to the world

I saw a video of it on YouTube. It’s a child ||who is sick in the hospital and wishing they could explore outside.|| They become a cloud. It makes sense it became inspiration for Sky as well.

The main difference between the two games I feel is that Sky's objective isn't super clear, and there's a lot more you can do, like explore other regions and have more of a community, whereas Journey's objective is very clear from the get-go, and while it is an online game there isn't too much of a community like there is for Sky. Idk which I like better tbh, i think I might like Journey more, as it feels more dramatic and has more of a story than Sky does tbh, but both are fun to play 🙂

Ohh that one was tricky! Took me some practicing too.
You can skip most of the electrocuting towers at the first part, and you can sneak through the gate to the meadow without activating the tower in the 1st section. That will save you some time when retrying the level.
In the last section of the maze where the towers are falling on you, keep up and stick to one side, either right or left. Don't use speed up, just flow through it slowly, the breaking towers are not hitting you when you stay close to the wall and go slow

The very end of the maze, right at the exit, was frustrating tho got hit there a few times and had to restart

its so hard, you can skip the first part entirely and not hit all of it. you could try following the speedrun route, the hardest part is not getting hit in the maze at all especially the last segment

you can perfectly fine speed up in the maze's last part, the intended method is following the path it does.
i've initially just done the alternative that is just fly above the section where the things come from below.

its best done on motion not on controller/keyboard/mouse/touch

but i also think that it helped me get better at controlling the character, not as blindly waving around the controller anymore

That's odd.... the Playstation version(s) of Journey should be some of the most stable ones, because that's what they were originally developed for.
Haven't played the game on my PS4 in a while, so it's not impossible that any recent PS4 OS updates may have messed things up... but it shouldn't happen.

I bought it for my iPad and I think it was worth every penny! The sceneries in it are so beautiful and it's fun to try to find all the symbols and the glyphs.
I only could think of one minus point, that the audio doesn't work correctly sometimes, it does a crackling noise and then either background noises, music or all sounds go. But it fixes itself by reopening the game (I haven't found a reason to it yet, but it happens on some areas sometimes)

In that part of Journey, the flower is at a point where a meteor lands in the desert. Rather than know how to find it, just keep your eye out for a meteor, which appears when you get close to Cloth 2, note where it lands, and head straight towards that point.

•It’s a little trickier with the snowy area, but for that you just have to listen and watch and be. patient. before moving to the next hiding spot.
•A healthy dose of caution (and no small amount of fear) usually gets me through with minimal casualties.
•TL;DR Stick to the edges. If spotted, hide quick. Be patient and be wise.

The snowy area, the one with fragments of War Machine spine diagonally along it, has the same solution as the other areas Cro posted. Ignore the fragments of machine, and keep to the left side for as long as you can. Right at the end, you have to dash for the door way. Make sure you do that when the War Machine has just left the area. It takes a long time to do it this way, but it works.

You can like make a „ date „ to meet before start the game kinda only on ps3 and 4 but on phone not but that’s the actual charm of it you meet one random and go on a journey just without any words and at very end you will see the name of each you meet along it’s so beautiful…. With sky I’m sometimes even afraid of unlock chat because it happened so often I liked one so much then they unlocked Chat and the way they talked was so disappointing …. Sometimes not taking is better

Companions appear randomly. There's no way to ensure it. Another player can appear only when two players are in the same map. The simplest way is to play the game up to the point where you're in the first desert area – the one where you restore the long walkway. Then, without restoring any of the walkway, just hang around that area for 30 minutes or so and perhaps someone will join you. You can pick up the glyphs while you're waiting.

I guess cloth physics are different in sky and from Journey. Journey has this very cloth-crumply thing going on where cloth feels like tissue paper. Sky capes feel pretty rigid.

I do like how both works, and I understand why we can't have a "scarf" that grows longer in sky. With the cloth being rigid, I bet the Journey cape's scarf would be like an over-starched piece of fabric.

it's not as open world, not as much of a playground as Sky
Journey was the game TGC made before Sky
it plays with similar themes (of pilgrimage and rebirth) as Sky, but it is a much much more of a linear and streamlined experience, more minimalistic and much more intense
Journey was, in its time, very influential in the 'games as art' genre and inspired many indie games that came after
it's definitely worth giving it a try, especially if you can grab it in a sale

The difference is that Sky has been developed for mobile first and foremost. Sky is also still being actively maintained by TGC.
Journey was developed for PS3, and then has been ported to mobile by another company, and it's not being actively updated anymore to fix bugs or keep it working on newer iOS updates.

its normal for the system to pick the integrated because its what it defaults to and journey doesn't have a profile in the drivers
make sure to cap the framerate to 60 and disable vertical sync for a better experience as well, play at desktop resolution if fullscreen, also enable fxaa and put msaa to 4 and ansio to 8

There are a few similar mechanics & vibes; I hold the personal belief that there’s no one “right” way to play a video game, much less a game like Journey. It’s quite literally about your experience going through the wide, empty world— maybe you meet someone, maybe you don’t— what you do is really up to you!

Personally, I’m an explorer, and I love trying to see how far I can go before the game stops me. I also really like trying to find/collect all the murals and glyphs, and help guide people to them, too. ^v^

Journey has been my go to option whenever Sky gets too socially overwhelming.

And in my last two play sessions, I encountered Trancendent Journey players. And both, did one thing: Notice I'm a Red Robe, go out of their way guiding me unconditionally until the end game.

On both instances we reached the final segment at the summit, I purposefully slowed down my walking pace. I didn't want to leave these strangers, I was not ready to part ways

I second that! Not only is it really pretty, the environmental storytelling and soundtrack are phenomenal! I really loved it my first time playing (and subsequent playthroughs of course)! It’s pretty chill, relatively simple, and an absolute classic in my eyes. Hope you like it, too! ^v^

The environments are culturally inspired but also distinct enough to be their own thing.

The sense of mystique and spirituality is pervasive but gentle, supplemented by a pace that is more smooth and flowing and soundtrack that is much more subtle and mature than Sky's more cheery and fast paced (overall) style.

I just played and beat Flower. This game is so beautiful like WHAT!? Deserves more credit! I won't spoil what else awaits. These are early shots.

the pc version is a early one, its flash player so no current browser can play that but you can download the windows only standalone player thing or try to play the swf that comes in the download. its recommended to get the playstation 3/vita/4 only version, psp has a smaller playfield and is 30 fps
the pc ver is more a demo because it only has two campaigns

Because you are older and more experienced. Your robe gets more ornate embroidery, too. Unfortunately, it happens only the first three times. After that you're officially 'old' already.

Getting the white robe requies you get all the icons. You could, theoretically, get them before you've completed Journey three times. So really they're two independent things.

It’s been around for a while. I think that adds to the charm, though. Not to mention I think it still holds its own against many of the popular games of today.

The direction— visual, audial, story— are done so artfully and with special kind of intention that really make the game come to life. I adore the colors and designs and the way I feel when I play Journey. It’s special. ^v^
