thanks for the help idk how i went through the lists and channels so many times and missed it
thank you as well even though it was resolved prior to the assistance
I’m sorta a newcomer, I find being a player better than being a DM and I use dnd beyond. Are purchasing books on dnd beyond a good idea if I want certain subclasses?

Looking for info on starting a adventure league at my local game store
Nice - check out #adventurers-league to discuss all things Adventurers League!
Thanks
You could always buy the physical books with those subclasses, but D&D Beyond is a convenient alternative!
i am not sure what order to assin the numbers to my ablity scores as a cleric, thoughts?
wait isnt there a command that shows that?
i forget
?tag new cleric
Cleric
Invoke divine magic to heal, bolster, and smite
Clerics draw power from the realms of the gods and harness it to work miracles. Blessed by a deity, a pantheon, or another immortal entity, a Cleric can reach out to the divine magic of the Outer Planes—where gods dwell—and channel it to bolster people and battle foes.
-# Suggested Standard Array assignment
Str. 14
Dex. 8
Con. 13
Int. 10
Wis. 15
Cha. 12
Likes: Gods
Complexity: Average
Starting HP: 8 + Con. modifier
ight
That’s the command, though I do suggest swapping Strength and Dex if you don’t want to play a melee-oriented cleric
Your highest score should be wis. Have enough con to not die when someone looks at you. The rest of the points go to str if you want to melee.
yea, i just did what the command said
I don't agree with dumping dex to 8
why, its the lowest, i say forge domain is semi-melee?
I agree with Belphégor. In my opinion the 8 should be in Charisma instead
Dex is important for initiative and Dex saves which are more common than Cha saves
okay il swap those
guys how many spells does wizards know? is it 20? and what spells do yall recommend
Their spells known is determined by:
- Their class level
- if they have scribed any spells they find into their spell book
Their number of spells they can prepare is determined by their class level, as per the Wizard class table
2014 or 2024 version of 5e?
5e 2014 i think
Ah ok my answer slightly changes then, your spells prepared will instead be equal to your Int modifier + your Wizard level
See here
so how many spells am i getting
As per the link above at base you’ll have a total of 20 spells, at least 6 of which will be 1st level as you thought earlier
so its 6 lvl and +2 every lvl?
Yup, +2 of a level you can cast specifically
ooh... what do u recommend for me
For level 1 spells specifically I recommend:
- Mage Armor
- Shield
- Magic Missile
After that it’s up to you, though I recommend grabbing 1 offensive and 1 defensive / utility option per spell level including cantrips
Given you’re a scribes wizard I recommend grabbing spells of diverse damage types so you can swap damage types around
ooh alright, also this is what my friend said (tmr is my first ever dnd game!!)
I’m going Kenku Sorcerer/Warlock
Xzavier is a Half Orc Ranger
Colin’s a Cleric Satyr (?)
You already know what Jericho is (rogue bard)
Crafts a Satyr Ranger
Owen’s some sort of Barbarian
Mr. Delange is doing warlock
should i use blade ward?
Woohooo first game
(i scrapped my ranger character)
Blade ward is nice in an emergency imo
But if you think it fits your character get it!
It’s kinda situational, but not bad.
oh wait xzavier is using bloodsinger well at least theres not much combat so im good
And very cool thematically
OK i'll be back with umm 20 spells i want to use and yes
I’m assuming you mean bladesinger? Though a bloodsinger warlock subclass would be sick as hell.
oops i meant blood hunter
Ohhhh
he says it's the "most complex class" 🙄
in session zero he pulled two toraz or how ever u spell it
It’s… possibly? It’s not in the official handbook so I can’t recall all its features.
im pretty sure its a homebrew
I swear to all that is holy if “toraz” is Tarrasque
also question... the other guy told me to pick atk/def/util spells one by one until i reach lvl 20, and ik i'll have 6 of each, but what do i do with the 2? should i pick atk or def
yeah omg it was a tarrasque
Yeah I’m not sure they’re playing blood hunter correctly 😅
let me ask him 😉
A Tarrasque is literally strong enough to be a threat to some lvl 20 players
It’s pretty iconic for being powerul
Not something a player can summon
Or should be facing if they’re low or even mid levels
evan is our dm and he was talking bad about one of the torz so ms.craft was like hey dont diss our terry
ughhh i should have paid more attention in sesh 0
What level do yall start at?
we all do 8
If I had to guess there’s a fair amount of rule misinterpreting on if a player is summoning a Tarrasque at level 8
Yeah not Tarrasque level, I’m really hoping you misheard
There’s only a single item in the game that can summon one, and that’s (technically) campaign specific
Which one?
IIRC it’s in Rime of the Frostmaiden
I won’t say more since it’s adventure spoilers but yeah
Anywho, you shouldn’t even be in a 10000 km distance of a Tarrasque until like lvl 14 minimum
A feature of wild magic sorcerers
heather said he used that
A subclass feature where a random series of events occur after you cast a spell
OH..
They’re homebrewing or getting false information then. Blood Hunter doesn’t get Wild Magic
what about ranger cuz heather thought he was a ranger until now
Wild Magic (subclass) Sorcerer’s Wild Magic (feature) gives a table of possible results, not completely random
Maybe you folks should review the free basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
And no, the only other class that has a Wild Magic subclass is Barbarian, which has a much more limited table than Sorcerer’s
A good way to sus out false information is to ask the relevant player what book and page they’re getting X feature from, handles 99% of cases in my experience
Just read over the wild magic table, you DEFINITELY cannot summon a Tarrasque
i'll ask once he gets on cuz i def overheard terry jerry the toraz
Yeah the only summonable creatures by 2014 wild magic sorcerer are Modrons, Flumphs, and Unicorns
Yup
Read over it twice
Definitely no Tarrasques
It’d have to be homebrew, and that is some VERY concerning homebrew if it were true
hi there

If you wish to look for a game or would like to know how, please go to #find-a-game
If you want to ask about tips being a dungeon master, go to #dm-discussion or #dm-world-building depending on the question.
Alternately, any specific questions can be asked here
yeah no ones answering and heathers in a game rn i'll just go back to my spell picking 💔
Ah well. Plz update us tho I am intrigued and simultaneously concerned
whats heathers?
Their friend
OH YES Sylas answered
I think
Woohoo!
ah heather. apostraphe didnt register
yeah there were two toraz terry and jerry, and techincally it was one at a time, in each plane, and he tamed it, and it WAS an accident with wild magic
Let's keep the random peoples names chatter out of this - please focus on actual D&D questions
We can move this to #dnd-discussion
wait so there should be 20 spells WITH cantrips included?
yeah whoops misread I meant 20 spells not including cantrips
cuz im looking at "Friends" right now and i dont think id need a cha as a wizard do i
known cantrips are separate from your known spells
You don't strictly need charisma no
so i can choose 3 cantrips and 20 spells? well my cha right now is 13 with +2 so should i pick that
If you feel it would fit!
“Friends” is a VERY scuffed spell tbh, cuz technically it has infinite range
Meaning you can (rules as written) make Asmodeus hate you
As a level 8 Wizard you'd actually get 4 cantrips
oh gosh, i just read the whole thing... so you make it friendly, and then they realized that they were used so they get mad at u
You can't technically. All spells require "a clear path to the target" as per the general spellcasting rules. See here
I stand corrected
The more you know
If Asmodeus showed up and you can see him and there's a clear path, then yeah you can cast it on him.
But at that point you probably have bigger concerns 😅
okay, thoughts on infestation?
i dont think it would be a good one for big monsters
Constitution saves are usually pretty strong, so it’s just alright
Not great
Though u can use it on friends to break them out of grapples
crossing THAT out 🤧
If you say so.
Usually worth it, just saying
What class are you again?
And what cantrips have you chosen?
Okay im done!
CANTRIPS
- Blade Ward/Mending
- Friends!
- True Strike
- Mind Silver
Also question, it says true strike gives me advantage on my next atk, but what is the advantage usually/
roll 2d20, take the higher number
Advantage is a mechanic applied to a d20 Test (attack roll, saving throw, or skill check), where in you roll for the check twice and take the higher number. See here.
I recommend giving the player section of the Basic Rules a full read
does my ac increase if i am prof with heavy armor?
i think heavy armour is a flat AC (even the magic ones)
okay
Hey everyone, so I've played 2 DnD games in my life, one in person and one online. I have a sudden urge to play some more and need some directions. Thnx
So I did the reading (still am) so if i wanted to see if the gargoyles are statues or real, and the dm tells me to do a int check, and i roll a seven, do i add my modifier (e.g. +2) with the proficiency bonus (if i have insight) and for example if it's +3, I add em up and get a 12
If you wish to learn the rules, we have a channel for that! #learn-to-play
If you want to discuss the creation, thematics or function of your character, go to #character-discussion
If you wish to look for a game or would like to know how, please go to #find-a-game
Idk what type of directions you mean, so here are some options
Yup! To be specific your DM would usually call for an insight check directly, or you would ask if your insight skill would apply
Thanks, yeah I've played before so being more specific I want to find a game
Then #find-a-game would be where you should go
i have no clue why i used fariy as my race and i chose brownie smell for the traits
maybe sage is a better pick for me
Because that is cute as f%#%
I know i need 20 spells, but the players book says 4 cantrips, 4 1st level, 3 2nd and 3rd lvl and 2 4th lvl.. what does that mean?
Those are your spell slots
Meaning you can cast 4th level spells twice per ping rest, 2nd and 3rd level spells thrice, and 1st level spell 4 times.
The cantrips mean you know 4 cantrips
ping rest
Of these, you can choose 16 spells from first to third level to choose from
so when im choosing my spells since Im only at lvl 8 i can choose up to 16 for 1,2,3 and 4 for 4th level?
whats that
Yes
ugh okay
omg my character is gonna be so cute she's gonna be those apprentice rookie mages that's kinda bum at her wizarding job but somehow uses powerful magic
can anyone explain to me how 2 create a character for a campaign
Go to dnd beyond
like, what do I even do and stuff I should be avoiding
say less 🗣️ 🔥
They have a character maker, also for more specific help go to #character-discussion
can i use cause fear on a toraz or zeus
Not sure what monster you mean by a Zeus but if you still mean Tarrasque by “Toraz” then no
Tarrasque is immune to the frightened condition
The Basic Rules for character creation can be found in D&DBeyond, which is linked in both this channel’s pins as well as in #learn-to-play
I have a question about the skill sleep.. it says i gotta roll 5d8 and the total is hp this creature can affect?i dont get it
The spell works based on the hp of the target. You roll a total, then if the target has less HP than that they fall asleep
If there's more than one target, you subtract HP from your total each time and then keep going until you don't have enough left over
Skill Proficiencies
Most ability checks involve using a skill. The skills are shown on the Skills table, which notes example uses for each skill proficiency as well as the ability check the skill most often applies to. The DM has the ultimate say on whether a skill is relevant in a situation.
If a creature is proficient in a skill, the creature applies its Proficiency Bonus to ability checks involving that skill. Without proficiency in a skill, a creature can still make ability checks involving that skill but doesn’t add its Proficiency Bonus.
Say you roll 25 hp, you can put 25hp worth of people to sleep. If a peasant had 4 health, you could put 6 to sleep.
what if a monster is like 30 hp and i roll a 25
Then nothing happens
dang thats kinda sucky
about slots, im picking 20 magics but how many slots do i get? what even are they
Are you familiar with mana?
Sup
Spell slots is like the mana you can use for each level of spell. 1st level spell slots can be used to cast first level spells, 2nd level spell slots can be used for second level etc.
you cannot use, say, a fourth level spell slots to cast a 1st level spell unless you UPCAST it, which some spells let you do to improve its effect

So can I use a fourth level slot to upcast my healing elixir?
You create a healing elixir in a simple vial that appears in your hand. The elixir retains its potency for the duration or until it’s consumed, at which point the vial vanishes.
As an action, a creature can drink the elixir or administer it to another creature. The drinker regains 2d4 + 2 hit points.
Is there a thing where you play with the basics of dnd like taking turns in that but on a completely different format
Ah it’s Unearthed Arcana that’s why
ughh i cant use UA
Wdym? Like a practice session?
okay I guess I can do umm shield with lvl 4 slot
Nope
No like it takes the basic blueprint of dnd but with a different like power systems
RAY OF SICKNESS
Might help with an answer. Because homebrew exists (making unofficial rules, features and classes) or you could try another TTRPG
I think it’s TTRPG
Then you’re probably in the wrong server, but maybe ask around in another server or in #non-dnd-topics
I came back cause I can’t find a ttrpg server
Sadly I don’t know any, so maybe ask someone else in #non-dnd-topics
is it okay to use augury with protect from good and evil?
I don't see why not.
I'm a newcomer and looking around

NEWCOMERS, PLEASE READ THE ABOVE MESSAGE IN CASE IT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION
im storing this somewhere
Feel free, just source me as the og
i do think sending this whenever the chat slows down can kinda clutter it
so maybe just whenever someone ask
i will
Everything here is literal what is in #learn-to-play fyi
I did read over the rules and did a character roll, but i think im a little to dense to figure some stuff out here on my own 😄 hopefully the local game shop doesnt mind when i go on their New to D&D nights lol cause im gonna be such a deer in the headlights kinda guy there lol
I can't imagine a shop that hosts a "new to D&D night" will be annoyed by questions!
yeah they offer character creation - one shot lessons to get you into it...but you gotta RSVP 😄
Does the diety I select for my cleric determine my characters alingment?
That's for you and the DM to hash out. I'd say those things are related at least.
Doesnt that mean you can use that set or weapon type?
If you wear Light, Medium, or Heavy armor and lack training with it, you have Disadvantage on any D20 Test that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can’t cast spells.
As for weapons you're not proficient in, you don't add your proficiency bonus when making an attack with them.
Okay
So you can use them, just not effectively.
holds sword backwards 😄
It's the other way around usually.
Hi, I'm new to playing a rogue and wanted to ask with the true strike cantrip am I understanding it right that you basically do turns as use action - true strike, next turn attack repeat in a loop usually?
I assume you are referring to the outdated 2014 version of True Strike?
I got it from a background on DnD beyond it was listed as legacy for picking it up from there so I wasn't sure if I aquired the wrong one to be honest?
we are playing with the 2024 rules by default
The way you described it makes it seem like it's the old version, which gives your next attack Advantage.
That's no longer the case. If your game is using the current rules, the new True Strike works completely differently.
Legacy backgrounds must still be linked to legacy spells on DnD Beyond, which is a coding error. If you're using the 2024 rules and something grants you True Strike, it'll grant you the spell linked above.
the one im using reads as "You point a finger at a target in range. Your magic grants you a brief insight into the target's defenses. On your next turn, you gain advantage on your first attack roll against the target, provided that this spell hasn't ended."
Indeed, that one is no longer available to players using the new rules.
-# Note: the new True Strike is way, way, way better.
I am using the cultist background from crooked moon to take warlock initiate which I was told is up to date for 2024
Technically, the entire Crooked Moon supplement is homebrew.
So the cultist background and warlock initiate are not RAW.
Yeah I did wonder if that caused an issue on some level
They're likely coded incorrectly on the website because of it.
I just assumed as I read it was all designed / updated for 2024 the background would use current version of spells etc
Is there a good way to remedy this, like I assume I can just seperately add in the correct new version on my sheet?
saying that I get "You do not have spellcasting or pact magic spells to manage. The spells that appear for your character were gained through other class features, species traits, feats, or items." probably due to rogue's not naturally having cantrips
The new one does make more sense as I was really confused how people were doing both in one turn with the old one
I unfortunately couldn't say how to make it work on the website, as I don't use DnD Beyond. I'd check in with #ddb-support .
Will do, appreciate the help and all the clarifications on getting this far! EDIT: (it turns out I was just a dummy and could pick the newer version, woops!)
Not sure if this is also right to ask here but would this would in tandem with true stike or would one completely overwrite the other?
Sneak Attack: Venomous Strike (Special)
When you deal Sneak Attack, you can choose to deal 2d8 Poison damage instead of 2d6 damage of the same type dealt by the weapon.
this works with true strike no problem. you make an attack with a weapon as part of true strike after all
Right thank you for clarifying so in the case of the damage type when apply this would you choose then from regular, radiant and poison damage? In regards to the latter would the poison damage from something like this always poison the target barring immunities or resistances?
poison damage does not automatically poison the target
right I need to read up how that works as I've never used posion anything before
was I correct in the assumption that when using this in conuction with true strike I would chose from on of the 3 types of damage?
where is that feature from anyway? I'm not familiar:
arachnoid stalker from Valda's Spire of secrets
Combining it with the silkborn race from crooked moon to fully embrace the spider thing
Honestly being so new to it all I wasn't 100% sure of how it was all working mechanically
okay so can chose your weapon's damage type (with d6 as sneak attack dice), or radiant damage (because true strike, also d6 sneak attack dice) or poison (d8 sneak attack dice) as far as i understand the interaction
however, poison damage is only sneak attack, not the weapon damage
right I see, so is there much benefit to still use true strike over the (d8 sneak attack dice) from venomous strike outside of things being immune or resistance?
you can do true strike for the weapon damage (and extra damage of the spell itself once you hit level 5) and still replace sneak attack damage with poison
right I see so it does true strike first for weapon damage and then you apply the sneak after as a seperate instance of damage
thanks for helping me understand so I can avoid causing confusion mid combat
hi there! i’ll be lurking around for a while, I haven’t played D&D in years, in fact I used to play the kind where you physically rolled your dice, etc. this means I need to see what’s going on here before I start to chat with anybody, but I just wanted to say hi!
Welcome to the server!
thanks. 🙂
Hi
Welcome.
thanks! I’m off for now. Later.!!
Best cantrips for clerics?
For offense? Can't go wrong with Toll the Dead.
For utility? Guidance and Light will never go wrong.
well obv what every dungeon crawl needs is a glowing finger
Sup
I’ve always wanted to play DnD and I’m finally buying it online shipping. I’ve studied the wizard and I know how to “not die early”

Hi guysI just got back from my first ever DnD game, and even tho it's a sesh 1, it felt like sesh 0 for me.. the team apparently did a full adventure and died, and now they are about to start another adventure at sesh 2 (sesh 1 was just like preps) but these are my spells as a wizard.. I decide to go full support and heal (we're all lvl 8)
Cantrips
- Mending
- Friends!
- Prestidigitation
- Mind Sliver
Lvl 1 - Gift of Alacrity
- Feather Fall
- Protect from Good and Evil
- Shield
- Unseen Servant
- Healing Elixir
Lvl 2 - Borrow Knowledge
- Wither and Bloom
- Augury
- Fortune's Favor
- Blur
Lvl 3 - Hypnotic Pattern
- Antagonize
- Counterspell
- Glyph of Warding
- Water Breathing
Lvl 4 - Banishment
- Charm Monster
- Hallucinating Terrain
and.. Sickening Radiance.
I want to have more supports than attack.. any options?
sorry for long msg T_T
This would be best for #character-discussion or #optimization 😄
One suggestion I have though, if you're looking for support spells, Haste is always a good option.
you cant even heal as a wizard😅
sorry to break the news to you
wizards can kinda do utility, but healing is just not their thing
ur right well im going for a apprentice mage that kinda bum at her job but kinda okay with support cuz my team literally dies all the time
Well there's Wither & Bloom, though kind of a low amount and bit more limited in use (spends the healed creatures hit dice)
already got that
Ah yes, I appear to suffer from Blinded condition
Mornin
hi nuggettt
Catch me up on the situation, I missed a li
pls give me suggestions from this message 🐈⬛
Oh great
You… sure you want more support? That’s more utility spells than I’ve seen on any other wizard.
Yeah, I’d even argue you’re LACKING damaging spells
But anywho, enlarge/reduce and enhance ability maybe?
Haste is always good too
In terms of healing, there’s no healing
Or close to none
so the thing is there is a bard (my art teacher), and she did say she got NONE of any of my spells except the special fancy effect stuff so thats okay, and yes I definitely want to go 95% support and 5% attack
support/buff/evasion/speed
honestly, I wanted to have cool spells, but i realized that the support spells are kinda cool.. and my stats are already done, so I want to do something special
full support wiz ❤️🩹
Wizard has many options for the first two, only a few for the third, and VERY few for the last.
or witch in this case
Btw just looked up, take this to #character-discussion
Copy and paste the spell list too
okay 🤧
I believe they have done that already
Ope got here late sorry
But yes, please try and keep things to the most appropriate channel for a topic
No worries!
depends, what exactly do you want to know?
Just the basics really
still no clue what you mean
How do enemies work? For example a basic zombie
As in how to play & make a character? Check out the basic rules in this channel’s pins as well as #learn-to-play
How does going about combat work?
All monsters have a statblock that shows their statistics, features, and attacks.
It’s going to be a little hard to go right off the bat detailing what each part of the Zombie stat block does without just going through the 1st chapter of the Basic Rules section
Ok
Have you read the Combat Section of the Basic Rules yet?
Oooh no i haven't, thank you! I'll check it out :)
Im also helping my friend who's going to DM for the first time with some puzzle concepts, is there a place where I can share it and ask for advice?
Idk how to really go about puzzles since i haven't done like. an actual actual campaign before but i have some cool ideas
The general order will go:
- The DM determines combat should start.
- All participants roll initiative.
- Participants take their turn in initiative order
3a) Participants may act outside their turn using features that allow it (e.g. Reactions, Legendary Actions) - The round ends when the last person initiative goes, and a new round begins.
- Repeat step 3 until the DM determines combat ends, most often when one side is either dead or fleeing.
Check out #dm-discussion !
Tysm! 🩵🩵
Just got into cleric, are there any first level spells you would highly recommend?
Guiding bolt, and healing word
Uh hey guys where do i see if there are parties requiring players cuz im looking to join one
Check #find-a-game for info on how to use this server to find a group!
Please use #find-a-game to groupfind
#find-a-game, dont advertise here
Soliciting games outside of the proper channels is unfortunately against server rules
Ok I am sorry
Also, make sure that campaign follows the server rules about "D&D vs. non-D&D" games since you said it was Marvel themed
Ok
A good way to spot check if its appropriate to be advertised in the channel is: "Could you play a character made with only the Basic Rules in the campaign?"
Ok my bad
Hi, I have played 3 one shot of DnD and today I just met with a new group for our session 0. Our DM is his first time DMing and I want to reduce the pression on him. Do you know where i can check online for the technical stuff?
Basic free rules can be found right here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
Is that for 5e?
Yup!
More specifically it's for the 2024 rules for 5e, which are essentially an update to the 2014 rules.
Ok thank you
i just messed up in #dnd-discussion
now everyone thinks im a troller and blocked me..
What’d you do
sigh
Ah well, I don’t think you’re too bad of a person, I think there’s just been a misunderstanding.
i feel like a terrible person
I feel like you’re hating yourself a lil more than they’re hating you bud
Next time, just try to somewhat stick to the conversation topic and try not to be too pushy or anything
If you do want to change the topic, frame it as a neutral question and remember to stay respectful
I don’t have the full context, but those are good rules to follow
thanks..
Np, just keep it in mind for next time.
Your past is stone but your future is clay, or smt
i dont know how in tartarus i managed to mess up this
Okay thanks
I decided to do forge domain Lowkey
hi all 🙂
Heyo
Nugget player support services here, how may I help you?
im new but not new .. im looking to get some in put
On what?
I’m working on a homebrew-friendly interactive character sheet for modern/“Here & Now” style D&D campaigns.
Right now it tracks things like stats, XP, abilities, and a few sample spells. Eventually, I hope to make it Discord- and phone-friendly, so players can update their characters remotely and GMs can send messages securely.
I’m not sharing the code or photos here — just curious if this concept sounds interesting to you!
So we dont allow polls, surveys, questionnaires or market research on our server but you could advertise your D&D related tool in #dnd-advertisements following server and channel specific rules.
Please take off the polling - this is not the server for that
Use the proper channel to advertise your D&D tool/service
Thank you.
Thanks for clarifying! I see this isn’t the right fit for my project. I’ll be leaving the server and will look for a community that’s more focused on homebrew tools. Best of luck to everyone here!
It may be a great tool for the community - we just need you to post in the correct channel.
Best of luck with your tool!
I don’t have like any RP experience but I’m wanting to fix that. Are there any games for beginning RP?
#find-a-game
Might help you
I love RP and exploration in dnd

Woooo the bots working
Lol Soo ive never played, and we set a date to try and start playing and im just a player not dm but like what should i realistically expect or do to prepare like i just made a simple character sheet
Bre
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
And of course, if you have any specific questions, please ask away! This channel is meant for it, and there are plenty of great people who should be willing to help you.
Ya so im supposed to play like a healer role so what would be best and i would probably be like solo healer cuz we only 3 like what do you recommend
Cleric
Clerics are the single best sustain units in the game, and it’s not even close
They are priests or individuals who gain power from a God or a godly domain (war, life, twilight, light, death)
If you want a buffing cleric, I’d recommend the Peace Domain cleric subclass.
If you want healing, Life Domain is perfect.
If you want to lead the party, I’d recommend Order Cleric
If you hate dying and like fire, I’d recommend Forge Cleric
If you hate your dungeon master, I’d recommend a Twilight Cleric
Wait wym hate your dungeon master how bad is that one 😂
Oh, it’s not bad.
It’s absurdly good.
It’s so good at keeping the party alive that it removes the danger from a lot of encounters, which is very frustrating for DMs to balance the difficulty of
Because if this, the Twilight Domain Cleric is often discouraged or banned at tables in comparison to other subclasses.
Well damn
Also, don’t focus on being just a healer. That limits your options and your creativity.
Well, I should rephrase
Don’t feel like you are LIMITED to just the role of a healer. If you want to be a heal bot that flips off death herself, go ahead and take Life Cleric. It’s my favourite Cleric Domain for a reason.
That cool but i was thinking maybe one that is also useful in like other stuff like not just in fighting but maybe like detective type character ig or idk if thats a thing
So utility? Knowledge Domain cleric or a Bard sounds perfect for you then.
Bards lean heavily into utility, support and non-combat encounters/scenarios, but don’t offer the same sustain as clerics.
Got it and a domain cleric can still focus on both
Knowledge Domain Cleric is based around gaining various skill proficiencies and tool proficiencies, offering a large variety of versatile options. It also has mind reading. And it’s still a cleric, so it can heal.
Sickkk
Also, the observant feat, when paired with a high wisdom or intelligence stat can make for a passive investigation and perception of over 20 respectively
Granted it requires some setup
But it does allow you to Sherlock Holmes your way through a case without needing to roll high
Anddddd thats why i need lol
It’s a really underrated feat
Healing sherlock holmes
it is
Healing and buffing Sherlock Holmes
Oh yah u cooked thx man
anyone want to play minecraft java??
Np, just consider also taking the skill expert feat to get expertise on the roll.
Cuz that also boosts your passive stats.
At lvl 4, assuming you somehow have both feats and have a 16 or 17 in intelligence or wisdom, you’d have a passive investigation or perception score of 22 respectively
Ok so during game focus on that
Ya im trying to do that rn on the website
Feel free to ask us for support
Ya how do i put what you just said on there basically lmaoo
You can’t, you gotta buy the online book first
So unfortunately you’re gonna struggle there
Use the options from the free Basic Rules
I think Life Cleric is the subclass available there
You don't need to buy anything until you've already played some games and you decide that it's the hobby for you
Thx
@earnest sleet anybody know this guy?
Can’t say I do
seen one of his lfg posts but no
Name rings a bell for me. Roll20 perhaps.
Is this the channel for beginner players to ask questions?
Absolutely
Nugget dnd player service helpline, how may I assist you today?
second man chiming in on the support
This is my senior, Alfiz. Say hi.
My question may seem dumb as a lvl 18 sorcerer, but would plane shift work to travel into anyone's demiplane? I think along as you have already seen how someones demiplane looks like, U can travel into it? This would also be a cheap alternative to enter my demiplane without a 8th spell slot
you could, if im not mistaken, but master nugget probably has the answer
Imma have to put you on hold for a sec
if you know the plane you could iirc
First of all, you’re my senior, so don’t call me master
Second of all, I need a sec to double check the spell
That seems more like a #dnd-rules question, most beginners arent level 18
Eh, if they’re new, they can ask it here
still calling you master, master
But this sounds about right
My knowledge on the game is very beginner like, trust me 😭
I think you need to know enough about the plane, like the name of it, but it should work
thats how it works yeah
Running level 18 dnd with a beginner sure is a choice but whatever floats their boat
maybe they arent a beginner just dont have a lot of rules knowledge
I think we shouldn’t make assumptions
maybe
I can answer
No I've been playing the game for 4 years and same campaign, I'm just really slow with understanding, definitely not beginner in that case then
Got it, all good
Ah, then it would be in the #dnd-rules channel, cuz ur not a newcomer. Just a reference for next time.
(Gosh you’ve been playing longer than meee)
My school has this one epic art teacher that allows us to do DND every Wednesday in his basement (in school) 😁
damn, ive been playing like 5 times longer than you😭
7 times, I not him
So in both versions it's possible (2014 DMG p.68, 2024 DMG p.187) but it's stated that the tuning fork required would be extremely hard to acquire. Both versions recommend casting Gate instead.
its alr
~~However, neither version of the plane shift spell specifies the tuning fork must be attuned to the specific plane you're trying to teleport to.
- In 2014 it's "attuned to a particular plane of existence"
- In 2024 it's "attuned to a plane of existence."
I assume based off the DMG passages the intent is that the tuning fork would be attuned to the plane or demiplane you're trying to access but it's technically just a suggestion.~~ Ignore this.
I did not know U can attune to planes? I don't think I'll be able to travel to attune to someone's demiplane without them being willing to then
There isn't a rule process either for "tuning a fork to a plane" so it's DM fiat as to how it works
Hold on, re-read the relevant DMG passages
Ah I'll probably ask the DM, I don't wanna mess up a big spell like that
Curse the disorganization of the 2014 DMG
Alright so:
- In 2024 yes but there is an implication that you need a tuning fork attuned to that specific demiplane. It's not hard-coded in the rules however as the DMG section on Planar Travel (DMG p.176) and the spell itself (PHB p.305) both don't directly specify it as a strict requirement.
- In 2014 yes but you do explicitly need a tuning fork attuned to the target plane (DMG p.46). The tuning fork also "must be made of the right material" and have the "proper resonating frequency" but which material and which frequency exactly is up to the DM.
Well, I learnt something today
So it's kinda up to the DM to decide if he let's me attune a turning fork to my or mabye someone elses demiplane so that plane shift can travel?
Yeah pretty much
Bro Ur so helpful
Is it bad I can’t sense if that’s sarcastic
I was worried someone might've thought that 😭
lol
Who knows, maybe it’s just me. I suck with identifying sarcasm, especially over messages.
hi guys, hope you're doing well.
I'm Alex, and i just found out there are discord channels for D&D, i've never played dnd ever but i always wanted to...
would love to play along you guys and learn it.
please help me figure out where to start
thanks

Hello newcomers, this is Nugget player support, how may we help you?
If you wish to learn the rules, we have a channel for that! #learn-to-play
If you want to discuss the creation, thematics or function of your character, go to #character-discussion
If you wish to look for a game or would like to know how, please go to #find-a-game
If you want to ask about tips being a dungeon master, go to #dm-discussion or #dm-world-building depending on the question.
I would also recommend checking out #channel-guide if you are confused about what channel is meant for what.
Please remember to adhered to server rules and stay respectful at all times. Heads up: if someone randomly privately messages you regarding a commission for any purpose, this is a common scam and you should heed caution.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
And of course, if you have any specific questions, please ask away! This channel is meant for it, and there are plenty of great people who should be willing to help you.
That pretty much sums everything up

Passive perception is 10 + prof if i have it + wis mod right ? For 2014 5E
Level 1 char lol so i have 12 (we rolled the stats so +0 wis, but i took the skill prof)
Then yes
And also you can have a passive perception of 20 at level one, just need to have variant human
I mean sure but the whole table (dm barred) never heard of dnd, i even corrected the dm a few times. Not gonna make my char have the all seeing eye lol. I want half elf for bard anyway.
Yeah lol
It's a support/utilitarian lore bard
Nice choice
How to make Jack of all trades useless : get 7 proficiencies at CHARACTER CREATION 😂
Better yet, multiclass into rogue for reliable talent if you can (prolly not optimal, just effing hilarious)
just wanna ask if there no chaotic scenario or consequences happens from time to time wont it be fun?
Yo, I’m very new to dnd and want to know if anyone would host a game for me so I could learn
Same, been looking for a team since like 4 days ago and had no luck, either

Hi~~
Have you followed the instructions in the above channel? once you do yo can find options and even post what you are looking for
Looking for a Game!!! Hi! I’m pretty new to DnD and would love to play more. I have only had the chance to be a player one time and had so much fun, but have DMed two short campaigns for a group of 5th and 6th graders in an afterschool DnD club… My “local” game store is a 45min drive and given the fact that I commute 45 to and from work 5 days a week I’d rather not do that on weekends too… 😕
Does anyone know of an online game I could look into?
Please use the Looking For Game channels to solicit/find a game as it's off-topic to do so outside of those channels. See #find-a-game to learn how to use our LFG channels.
Thanks!! I didn’t see that channel so I thought this might be the place! I’ll look for that channel and repost there.
Yeah Discord likes to hide stuff - use id:browse to toggle which channels you want to see (and we have #channel-guide that shows our many channels for specific D&D topics)
Hello everyone
How do you play dnd if you have severe social anxiety 😭
Are there any groups open?

hi the new starter set that just released, is that good for newbies
Ive heard good things about the set, yes
I like the monster cards
whats the starter set?
heroes of the borderlands
i can play a ranger there?
sure, though not sure if there is premade ranger character in there
ooof
ah it seems the class boards are only fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric.
still, if you are already familiar with the rules, the DM could just allow you to bring a regular character sheet
Im stick on the wording gor lightning launcher
What seems to be the issue?
it deals 1d6 lightning damage on a hit. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with it, you can deal an extra 1d6 lightning damage to that target.
Can I choose to have it deal 2 d 6 next time I shoot it
Never mind I read it wrong
That is what it’s saying
Does it stack?
As in 2d6 —> 3d6 —> 4d6 etc? No
okay lets say you hit twice on your turn, then one of those can do 2d6+mod instead of 1d6+mod damage
if you only hit once, then that hit can do 2d6+mod damage
nothing more
So if I hit it once, and then hit it again on my next turn
Both are 2d6+mod
It can still do 2d6 or does it have to be with multi attack
Key word for this is 'once per turn' multiattack is the same turn. Waiting for your next turn is 2 different turns
yeah ever time your turn comes around, you can boost the damage of one hit with the launcher
Could anyone review my character sheet? Thank you.
Sooo been a hot minute since I've ran a campaign as a Dm or a player so, if I could have someone help me with a refresher it would be awsome
like rules or?
Yeah
Thank you

So if I wanted to get into D&D should I find a dm first? Or create a character? Im only going off of videos I've seen from "bad dnd players" to watching a campaign that "Friday beers" did
I’d say:
learn the rules
Make a character
Join a campaign
And don’t get your expectations too high from watching other campaigns. All campaigns are different, and that’s good.
To learn the rules, go to #learn-to-play
To get help making a character, I’d recommend #character-discussion
And for help looking for games go to #find-a-game
hello..
Welcome!
sigh
welcome! Let us know if you have any questions!
well im kinda confuse
Anything in particular?
soo i wanted to make a character with blood hunter class cuz i found that only cool class on ddb and some poeple said that there are alot cooler classes i heard someone say smth about assasian class or heavens calss and i dont understand how to get that classes
assasin is a subclass or from 3.5
oh..
heaven class you probably mean cleric
subclass for rogue
idk i asked is there any elemental like class like lightning or fire ant they said ''yes heavens class''
Not sure what they mean - it doesn't match to any specific class/subclass in D&D 5th Edition that I'm aware of.
oh okay
Was reading through, they said "Heavens yes" as a way of saying there were a bunch
ohh..
Oh as in "for sure there are many classes"
that makes sense.. lol
i tought they meant that there is lightning class called heaven lool
idk what character should i make..
honestly only you can answer that
im kinda bored already i dont have anyone to play dnd with irl and online its kinda boring..
what sounds inticing to you?
that exists, the way of the elements
monk subclass
is that free?
uhhh
hmm lol
no
ha knew it
its in the 2024 phb
soo basicaly sub classes are pay?
but not in the free rules
some of em
some
Anything outside of the free rules cost money
each class has one sub class in the free rules
wait soo i got reaaally confused i tought they were saying about books for classes not sub classes..
wait how many classes are there?
brb
The core rules come with the core classes. Each class gets a subclass at level 3. The free rules provide a free subclass for each class. If you want access to more player options (such as more subclasses) you or your group buy the books that provide that.
12 in the free rules, artificer is the 13th class but is not in the free rules
what about blood hunter does that count?
ohh now it all makes sense
That's thirdparty - it's not guaranteed to be allowed at every D&D game table
oh .
that is not an official class. that would be a 14th class that comes from a sub set of books that are approved by WoTC but not official
so i just made really cool character that may or may not be allowed 😭
i mean i use dnd beyond to create characters soo
umm
many tables will be ok with it
just no guarantee
i made a tabaxi i made a wizard even a owl but owl cant be used in normal sessions and wizard and tabaxi got bored real fast
There is an owl race! its called owlin :)
there is not much help we can offer you on what class you will feel is not boring.
i know but if im right owlin is humanoid owl?
yes
i meann..
wait soo as far i tried sorcerer warlock wizard and fighter.
i tried to make a elemental monk but i didnt finish it
What is it that you think made them feel boring? it might just be that dnd isnt your thing at the end of the day
i dont like ranger.. idk why bur terraria made me hate rangers for some reason lol
well.. as a wizard i only cast fire ball or something same thing for sorcerer and for fighter idk
That just means that you’re limiting yourself to the basics. There’s a lot more that they can offer.
From what I know, could I recommend path of vengeance paladin?
it sounds like maybe the tables you played at didn't give you the place or time to truly play out the characters
ill try that but i dont have more character spaces on ddb left
If your aren’t using am your other characters, just replace them
Or make another account
Btw, what do you value in a character
Power? Support? Edginess? Depth? Conviction? Utility? Throwing hands? Simplicity? Complexity?
Then wizards and sorcerers would be good, but you don’t seem to enjoy them…
yea .
I think you just weren’t able to fully explore any class tbh
i before really liked magic but now it doesent seem to be the same..
May I ask why?
yea maybe cuz i didnt really get to play with em bc i couldnt find any session
idk..
pubertee lol
i played once westmarchets but that didnt help as much
Well, so far I’m seeing the classic case of ENC
whats ENC?
Which isn’t purely a bad thing, and easily curable
Edgy Newbie Characters
hmm
Like, you’re liking Avenger, Assassin and Blood Hunter.
(Not a bad thing, they’re solid classes)
oh ye i was told that if i only like blood hunter that im either edgy or smth i dont remember
maybe this is a great convo for #character-discussion so you can get input from other players too
but still idk how to get avenger class
I was about to say yeah
I can kinda
It’ll be an hour or so before I can call, if you can call later, dm me
Hello I’ve only ever listened to dnd campaigns and my cousin mentioned wanting to play a campaign for my nephews so I volunteered to dm since I’m the only one that’s ever even consumed any dnd content about 20 campaigns ( mostly dropout ) but confused on a couple things, I’m wanting to start them at level 5 and confused on making characters sheets
how do i import my character from the d&d beyond to discord
Are you using Avrae? You'd use the Avrae !import url of character sheet
For more help with Avrae, check in at #ddb-avrae-help
how do i get the url of character sheet because all i keep seeing is the pdf
Open up the character sheet in DnDBeyond via the website
So go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters and find the character
The URL will look like https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/# where # is the ID of your character
Go to dnd beyond and try there, and if you have already/need help go to #character-discussion
I'd recommend starting at level 1 for newbies, level 5 characters have significantly more build decisions and abilities
I usually recommend lvl 2, because it introduces a tad more mechanics while still not being overly complex. Also it helps with them not dying in one hit
I just joined beyond
yo i just made a character for like basic campaigns to do whatever, one shots and such as well. i was wondering if anyone who's more experienced could go over the sheet and tell me if it's alright or not, and made sense in the dnd world
Sure! Feel free to post it here or in #character-discussion
Hey umm I’ve played dnd a few times, but I’m not really familiar with it. Any advice?
Anyone?
How much of the Basic Rules have you read?
Where are they?

If something specific roadblocks you feel free to ask a question about it here
ok so i've been thinking about this
im a pretty big fan of Doki Doki Literature Club, hopefully you all know what that is
and it made me think about dnd at the same time, so i was wondering how Meta Mechanics would work in Homebrew DND campaigns
like, is there rules for them?
Hi. I’m super new to D&D and I just wanted to ramble about random ideas and questions that I have.
-# Please don’t eat me. /j
So, I had one idea in my head relating to a Bard with a possible background in Charlatan and I was wondering what races could really play well with a shameless conman?
I also had a few other ideas, but I wanna ask about that one first cause it sounds really fun to play.
Homebrew isn't official content so no there are no rule guidelines for how to incorporate "Meta Mechancis" into D&D; it's up to the homebrewer to translate such mechanics themselves.
I'm sure if you poked around the internet you'd find some form of DDLC homebrew, but as with all homebrew it's not guaranteed to be balanced or of quality
Species is independent of personality, so any species could work for your idea
Homebrew can be super underwhelming or super op
Alignments help determine that, no?
It's the opposite. Alignment is descriptive, not prescriptive. Your actions and worldview will help categorize you into one of the 9 alignments
If you use the alignment system at all; it's considered mostly vestigial now
So it’s given after the fact.
Pretty much
Mmm. 🤔
I have never played ever at all but I’ve heard of dnd and wanted to play but I don’t know where to start

Thanks!
Hey, everyone! I just joined the server and while I'm not new to the concept, I'm quite inexperienced in D&D. I would love to meet new people here to discuss games and campaigns and eventually join one once I make sure I can be consistent with it :)
Hallo and welcome!
Is there anything I can help you with today?
Thank you! Could you please give me some pointers as to integrate myself into the server better maybe?
Well, there’s
#learn-to-play for rules
#find-a-game to look for games
#channel-guide to understand what each channel is for
Also remember to read server rules, stay respectful and report toxic behaviour. Also, be careful if you get an unwarranted dm that wants you to commission art. It’s a very common scam, and should such be reported unless you are very confident they are not.
look at #channel-guide for the channels, read the rules and use #find-a-game for advertising
Is it possible to observe games that others are playing?
Many tables ignore alignment altogether
Many if not most GMs don't allow non-players to spectate. Maybe friends or family, but not random people.
Sad but understandable
hello
There are some that allow folks to listen in Ezaeur.
You can also check YouTube and Twitch for D&D streams and watch those. Just be aware that many of them are entertainment first rather then "learn D&D".
Hey guys would someone like to help me with my campaign? I honestly got no clue what i'm doing and i need a bit of constructive help thanks
Try #dm-discussion
This channel is more for helping new to D&D folks get started learning core game mechanics and rules.
Yeah i'm kinda new tbh but thanks i'll try that channel
hello is there any third party/cool classes like blood hunter
Yes - many. Some may not be free. You can check with folks in #third-party about which ones they like and why.
okay txh
thx
i found one third party class that sounds cool : Pale Master idk how to get it
and idk how to see all the third party classes
I'm not sure you can on DnDBeyond unless you've purchased the books they are in.
You could check DMsGuild for other options as well (they just won't be integrated into DnDBeyond)
still sounds like a great thing to discuss over in #third-party
there no one there ..
the intent of this channel is to help new folks with the basics. you are delving into the deep non-beginner ideas and concepts. Patience is needed with other channels, they will come alive soon enough. In the mean time use Google to research options. keeping in mind NO third party stuff is free and much of it isn't even avaialable on D&D Beyond without creating it manually in Homebrew which can be discussed in #homebrew
What things draw you to the blood hunter class?
well curses, sounds and looks cool and uhh ye
is there roll20 chanel?
share the link
Lots of folk can do curses and curse-like effects. Wizards and warlocks, also druids and bards.
Look and behaviour is entirely up to you.
I am not sure either as I do not use Roll20 for characters, only maps. I am sure a google search will help tho
umm is this guy advertising?
yeah likely a bad link
my dm told me to make my character there soo
maybe your dm can help you with how to share it as well
he sent it everywhere
yup spammer
wait can monk have elemental attacks at lvl 1?
not based on the basic rules, no
That isn't possible until level 3 and if you chose the subclass Warrior of Elements
oh
as mitcho said yeah
✨ money✨
😭 i had a feeling
its in the phb
everything cool is p2p ..
ill rather buy new class than subclass ig
alfiz i have a question
?
soo im new to dnd do u have any recomendations what should i buy
the phb
Players HandBook
thats digital?
digital and physical
witch is better
depends on what you want
i kinda want physical
i have it physical too, right here on my desk
cool
40 bucks
✨ piracy✨
My recommendation is to buy nothing. Read the Basic Rules, get into a game or two, then decide whether you want to go down the rabbit hole or not
igtg but ill ask my life savings if they can buy it lol
hmm
thats the best yeah, i just assumed he wanted to buy something
Good luck, I hope you find a good group. It's the most difficult part of this hobby.
If you don’t find anything in the looking-for channels Spread your net wide there are lot of places to look for games other than here `iamrazorwing's Game Finding Guide
i second this. Finding groups is hard
Does anyone know any videos for beginners learning 2024? All the videos I know are for 2014
The core rules are still the same
Okay, so I can probably show an older video to friends?
Slight variations to character creation for stat boosts now coming from background not race

Hey guys! Thinking of getting my dm a dungeons master guide book. Not sure if I should go with the 2014 or 2024 edition. We are doing the witchlight carnival campaign if this helps decide?… and my monk character uses focus points instead of the ki points as well.
hard copy or digital copy?
The 2014 DMG works great with most adventures like Witchlight, and tons of guides and tools online use it. Your DM probably already knows it well, so it’s easy to stick with. The downside is it doesn’t have any of the newer stuff, like updated class rules, so it might feel a bit behind if you’re leaning into the 2024 changes.
The 2024 DMG has all the new rules, like your Monk’s Focus Points, and it’s a solid pick if your group wants to move into the new edition. It’s probably cleaned up and better organized too. But since it’s so new, it might not match older adventures perfectly, and your DM might not be using it yet.
yes i did just write like a paragraph
Hard
Okay thanks… I can anyways ask in a way that’s unsuspecting about the direction of edition we’re gonna be going in. But thanks for your input. I’m sure the older edition will be just fine. Thanks for the paragraph 😂😂
And they for sure don't already have? If not then I would go 2024
np
any day is a good day to nerd out
He does not have one yet. The entire group is pretty new and it’s his first time dming. So we’re still trying to figure things out
I love that you are doing this!!
i have created my first character 😄
Congratulations! What did you decide on?
