What I'd love as a pixel-peeper (3D artist / photographer - so it's a professional hazard) would be a "DLC" of sorts, like a "High-res texture pack" seen in some other games, for full-res artwork π

he seems to be the lowest res artwork (the character you control, rather than the dialog option)
The 3D elements keep sharp throughout the resolution range, so easy to spot them vs sprites/raster textures

I have a couple launch options you may want to try, if you're getting noticeably blurry images. I can't guarantee that they'll help (I don't know all the details about the actual size of the images), but it might be worth a try

I see games as pieces of art (at least the good ones, anyway) that on PC will live for decades
modern game dev practices allow for futureproofing, like high-res assets, use of vector graphics, unlocked resolutions, etc
so I always look at games that came out in the 720p or 1080p era and, when rendered at 4K, 5K, even 8K - some hold up, some fall apart hard
sometimes it's bizarre to see a mix of vector AND raster UI elements alongside each other, where the raster is clearly low-res next to a sharp vector. And what adds insult is that the blurry graphics in question could have easily been vector as well (which means the dev responsible either didn't test on better hardware, didn't know better or didn't care enough).
Modern engines like Unreal 3+ also load in higher-res textures when the rendering resolution is higher. Which is great, because playing the same game at 4K makes the whole thing noticeably sharper than 1440p (and 5K sharper than 4K, etc) - and it's not just down to the extra edge smoothness
I understand limiting asset quality in consoles - physical media constraints, hardware constraints, etc. But on PC, especially if the assets are dynamically served nowdays - there's no point limiting them, other than storage. In 7 years I went from a 4GB GPU, to 8GB, then 11GB, now 24GB memory. PC's evolve. So I'd LOVE to see PC games up their game a bit in terms of art longevity. Some of us replay older games on new hardware for fun π

Yeah, the reason I asked is because it's not so easy to wrap one's head around the concepts I talk about unless you do it a lot, preferably profesionally
When digital art is drawn, it usually is drawn at a high resolution (if the artist set it up that way, of course)
And then rescaled down to fit into the memory of a target computer spec
As an easy example, Lernie is very blurry on Switch (even on the 720p handheld screen), while he's sharp on PC
So my hope is that there are even better files out there that didn't even make it to the PC
For all I know, The god graphics could be natively drawn sharp at 8K, but resized to ~1440p for the final game
Like that pot next to the paper pile is obviously much higher res in comparison to the pile of paper or Hades himself
and the desk sits somewhere between the papers and the pot in sharpness
Either way, none of this matters to the quality of the game. It's superb. It's just that I'm a graphics enthusiast and I like things sharp π€£

Yeah, back then the GPUs would work great. But I stopped having SLI with the 30 series. At least 2080Tis had it still, but even then I was wasting the second GPU a lot of the time, minus rendering. With the 30 series they outright announced killing it and only the 3090 has a connector anyway

As someone who works as a graphics supplier (photographer, video editor, 3D artist) for entertainment and marketing - crunch is just inevitable sometimes UNLESS you work 100% independently, and that means NO other businesses are involved. Deadlines are a thing and when you have multiple companies depending on your work to do THEIR work - you end up with some crunch sometimes. It's just a fact of life.
AAA game crunch is often due to bad management, which is different to other forms of crunch that happens, but please dont automatically assume that crunch=bad=avoid-at-all-costs. It's silly.

My understanding of these rules are to keep the space open for more discussions. That way, if someone wants to talk about games, and someone else wants to talk about their pet bird, the game person can go to #video-games and the bird person can chill in #off-topic-discussion

It's the lesser of the two evils. I am on some other servers that are more loosely moderated.
The result is that people just stop listening to moderation after a while and the solution is to mute people or mute the entire channels.
