@everyone We want to address some interesting points brought up by people in response to family sharing being re-disabled,
"Why don't you simply IP ban abusers?"
You can change your IP for free, it's very easy.
"Why don't you simply ban abusers by hardware identification?"
This is easily bypassed by free software or registry edits.
"Doing this just puts abusing the game behind a paywall."
This is all games can do. The prohibitive cost to abuse the game makes it simply not worth it for 99% of abusers, and this is how the games industry has worked for decades because it is the only viable option.
"Wasn't it disabled in 2017, what happened?"
We disabled it with custom engine-level networking code as suggested by Valve support, but when Epic Games upgraded the engine last year, it was re-enabled due to the underlying architecture of the steam authentication service being rewritten.
"Why was it enabled in the first place?"
Steam has forced Family Sharing onto all titles by default since 2016, which has led to most multiplayer titles disabling this by hand, due to the abusive nature of the service in online games.
"Will it ever be coming back?"
This is unlikely, as it really has no place in this game.
"How bad was the abuse, really?"
Some players and groups had over 30 alt accounts that they used to evade bans or harass players after being killed.
