If you get far enough there is a portal from the ashlands that works
You can enable it in world settings, but it ain't how the game is supposed to be played.
It can transport anything
Ye
uuuuuuu new updates anytime soon?
Sometime 2026 people are predicting
Not yet, but it'll be worth it
No official announcement
For a coast base yeah
fastest way to transport without changing the settings
Of course cart for close land, but yeah boat
trolls r so easy to kill tho
leave cart fire 5 arrows at head and hes ded
They like to bonk the cart
nah u gotta it em
And it breaks it or leaves it close to break
The cart can draw agro
im lucky ig
wow it's surprisingly easy to just swim into the ||ashlands after abandoning a karve at the closest rocks||
How much area do i need to have as a stone floor for comfort items later on?
If you use some tricks, I think a 6 x 6 m area would do.
But the floor with your bed will be quite cramped.
I have a wood floor too for any items that dont need a stone floor
Its more that I dont want to stone this full floor because it all needs iron beams
Hello. Where can I search for players on the server?
Thank you very much
What I did for my main building was using 3 - 4 standing iron beams covered with the stone collomn for looks to support the floor. For the horizontal part I used the 2x2m iron grate set halfway the last row of stones, then expanded all over the area, with the exception of where I had the staircase.
Since that grate was both supported by the wall and the iron beams, I was able to get enough support all over the building for the entire floor.
Plus, because I started it halfway the stone wall piece, the grid was completely covered inside the floor pieces, making it a great support.
For looks, I also used the stone arches, branching out from the top of the collomn and the walls under the floor to give some extra support.
Yeah I thought about doing that but I dont mind having this floor wood, It's not got great support because I used the small blocks and also raised my foundation to have a basement kinda thing
Gods, if the ashlands dvergr can't be taught to avoid the lava, at least make them immune to it so they don't self-destruct constantly
Or make a flametal net launcher so you can drag their loot safely back to shore
I had this two-star guy running around near my base keeping blobs and stuff away from me, loved him. But he, of course, couldn't stay out of the damn lava so he's history. Sigh.
I posted a link in that channel to a screenshot of how my base sort of looks like. Build with the setup I mentioned in my previous post.
I was able to cover a 24 x 18m floor that way.
Starting to experiment a bit with grausten building. Not sure I like it, walls and floors look a bit too plain and smooth, and there seems to be a fair bit of build pieces that should exist but are just missing
Roofs look cool but seem very messy to get right
You can make nice details with the pillar parts.
Yeah, I'm thinking a stone house with the upper floor in grausten, with wooden beams to break up the grey, that might look nice
Hmmmm. Sounds familiar. 😄
But are there really no 1-meter high wall pieces? And ways to fit walls around arches? The "grausten wall arch" doesnt seem to fit with anything. This is all very confusing...
Right, the wall piece fits the big arch, but there's noting for the smaller arch I guess
There's plenty of 1m high stone, Black Marble and (ash)wood building pieces.
And arches do fit, you just need to keep a good eye at the snap point and occasionally disable the auto snapping for one of the other points.
I was thinking of grausten, if there are any 1m high wall sections of grausten I haven't unlocked them yet
All build pieces are unlocked the moment you pick up the material.
So if you don't see 1m Grausten pieces, they aren't there.
Frustrating since I want to make a 3 meter high wall hehe, if use a snap point to phase one section half way into the first it doesn't look good
no 1m pieces, though there's a simple Gizmo mod that lets you rotate in 3d and then you can get 1m high by rotating the existing 1x2 piece 90 deg
I'd recommend building the first layer out of stone 1x1 and then clipping grausten into the ground to replace it
Nah, no mods for me. I'll work around it somehow. Guess it will have to be a 6 meter high wall instead with two floors
Thanks, I'll try that
One of, and probably the biggest, reasons I stopped building a lot is because of how monotonous the basic build materials look. So it then took me a lot more additional mats to make all the walls stop driving me bonkers. Which won't be bad once we get past 1.0 and I start using dev commands and mods for building. Just while I actually go out and gather my mats the hard way, yeah, I stopped doing big builds. I keep things relatively small, so mats I'm going to gather any ways are all I need to break up the monotony.
the mats are killing me, it was easier farming a full boat of iron
Right now I'm getting annoyed that there is no small wall arch section, so there is no way to use the small grausten arch other than as a free-standing arch, which is a very odd thing to do. So there's this gorgeous arched door, but no way to make an arched opening that will fit it. (Yes, there is in ashwood, but dangit I'm building in stone here. Aaargh!)
hey guys, im very enw to the game and just got flint gear, but I have a decent base. What should I do?
Listen to the bird, explore, experiment with new things you unlock, explore more, make better foods and equipment, explore more, and so on
And welcome!
Beat bosses as needed,
Food is key to progression in Valheim, arguably even more important than gear. Never go hungry (=always have three foods in your system) so you don't get killed by just about anything, always keep the rested buff up, and learn defence in combat (blocking, dodging)
The "I feel cold" debuff is dangerous, it slows down your stamina regeneration, so exploring at night when fresh and squishy is deadly
At least blocking. I do fine without parry or dodge rolling.
just to double check this version of valheim does have the bears and all that stuff right?
What other version would there be?
like its not in beta still
If your on Steam you should have the newest version by default.
Call to Arms has been out of public testing for a few months now
If you were in ptb, you still need to manually exit ptb.
I forgot to do that after Mistalnds. That was fun to figure out. 😄
The ptb should currently be the same version as live branch iirc 🤔
small patches don't always go through public testing and you could miss one by staying on that branch
Apparently we do not auto exit, because my laptop was still on the ptb version when I went on a road trip.
Oh, you do always have to do it manually if you want to switch from one branch to the other 🙂
I was just saying that currently the version on both the branches is the exact same
This was like a year after Mistlands left beta. I was initially assuming it should have auto updated to the newest version, then I realized it was still in the play test.
hi guyz
Can anyone tell me where in the black forest I left my cart please
yeah anything I want to look good is built in modded godmode
vanilla survival is for cozy authentic shit shacks lmao
I would look next to the tree, or maybe that rock over there 😄
Naaah, half the fun of building something big is feeling "I MADE THIS!!!" when I'm done, and I simply don't get that if I do it without the grind.
You didn't have to make a trail with your hoe? An unusually smooth forest you have there...
Every single big build I ever did was 100% completed in survival - meaning many deaths to fall damage because apparently I cheat a lot with scaffolding
I cleared it by crashing into everything with a full cart
I'd be a disaster as a construction overseer
Yeah, I did some absolutely huge builds. Some even by myself. Still, that grind got to be too much for me to want to do it yet again.
i have a shitshack with 897 blm chests grinded out in survival
Hmmm, what I built now either resembles a random barn in Tuscany, or the beginnings of a cathedral
897
BM chests? Man, I thought I had a lot with 27.
many fulings died for the cause (my storage needs)
I have enough black metal to make crapton of BM chests, but I'd never need them...
Got a whole row of empty ones I crafted months ago,
Yeah, I am often well on my way to filling a second BM chest with Black metal, but I have never needed all that many chests for storing my mats.
yeah i've only ever filled up a little over 100
Bloody hell Ashlands is dark at night. It's always dark, but fudge this. The only thing I see is patches of lava glowing and the odd starred charred shining like a beacon
Yeah, it does get pretty dark. I usually don't travel around at night because of that. I'm old, so have lost my night vision.
I should do that too, sitting here squinting at the screen...
I use the dvergr circlet to help with that issue, but not always.
I use that when building at night, but when out and about I use the wisplight actually. So I don't lose my helmet
-# I was thinking about night joke but realised it wouldn't land well in English (and it's from one song in my native).
I'm more comfortable in Ashlands during night than Mistlands during night.
I'd rather lose a helmet than lose my belt. 😄
It's only temporary, wisp comes off at dawn, and there's always the troll mead if I need to carry anything in the dark
I just died to a falling tree
I died to a tree and not the siege that happened like 5 minutes ago
I'll do that in Mistlands, because, Mistlands, but in the Ashlands I am gathering tons of mats pretty much all the time, so need my belt.
Thats a true Valheim initiation
Welcome to Valheim. Even the trees are deadly.
I'll be so happy when I finally move into my new base, I think I've been building it over a week lmao
Sounds like a massive base. I build mine over time. So build my house first, then expand it out as needed as I progress. So I have no idea how much time, over all, I put into building my bases. 😄 This time was rather easy though, since I just took over a draugr village, so just did a lot of repairing, then put up my walls.
Its not that big compared to most things I've seen in here. Im just slow and struggling with my first 'big' build 🥲
Oh, yeah, first time around was a huge challenge for me. Sometimes I go visit my first house, and still get amazed at how ugly it was. 😄 Even my second house was ugly, but I have since rebuilt that one, once I knew better.
My first house got turned into a doghouse for dedicated wolf breeding
It was so bad
I like my wood house I make but this is my first build with stone, I fear I may noit have enough stability for my roof but we'll see
My first house isn't even fit for wolves. 😄 Its bad. Well, my roofing is bad. I now know how to properly connect them, etc...
My first house was just a box with roof next to the spawn point, second was wonky mess but somehow worked...
Working on my first tame this playthrough, time to get an asksvin farm going, hunting those pests is way too dangerous to farm sustainable amounts of meat
Killing one is not really a problem, but they rarely come without a cohort of charred and the odd boneroller/flying screecher
I felt that way too. Now I just don't want to go out there and kill 200 other mobs just to get Asksvin mats.
Indeed
Saw green light in the sky when kiting this guy home, seems I have a mission later on
You do.
one in ten chance - on paper
anyone wanna join me im lonely
All that means is that every time you kill one you have a one in ten chance to get it. It is perfectly possbible to run with bad luck and not get one after dozens of kills. It is unlikely, but it happens
and terrified
You can make a post in #1024264966712340510 😄
how do I get rid of the grass in my house?
so in reality its a 50/50 xD
Remove the flooring, use your hoe, replace flooring.
Use the hoe to flatten the ground beneath the floor
If its the game houses, those foot prints are small enough you can just use your hoe around the outside to remove the grass.
It took me 36 bears for the first trophy during PTB.
ohhhhhh
jeez that sucks
I think the worst I had it was 24 bears before a trophy.
why am I too tall to go in my house
Good question. Your shorter than the door, so an over head piece is too low.
i leveled the ground
Is there a door, and proper flooring, or is it all dirt and open?
oh my that raised the dirt to above my floor
hmm
well don't do that again got it
Yeah, that was what I was guessing. Hence my question.
I was guessing you raised the dirt too much for the door height.
Which is why I brought up the dirt.
the standard door is only barely tall enough to let our vikings in and out unimpeded. That's why I tend to use gates for all my builds.
I do prefer gates, but mainly just because they are stronger, and I have had unwanted mobs come knocking on my doors.
While certainly true if you put just a wall right on top of the door, when you put the 26° cross above them instead there is quitea bit of head clearence and it looks quite nice, imo. 😄
Now a days I do gates because I know I will eventually be using the iron gates. So I build with that in mind.
I dont usually do big builds so only place gates might get used is defense walls, if i decide to make them.
I just love them, and how they sound when you open/close them. I am talking the iron/wood gates, not the pure iron version.
Didn't play for months, we ventured towards the queen and we got her! Long fight tho ooof
Yeah, she can be a tough one. I've gotten her down to under 10 minutes, but it took a lot of fights to learn how to handle her that quickly.
Our weapons kinda sucked i think took at least 20m i think lol
Plus I am talking solo times. With my wife we take her down a couple of minutes faster than that.
Now im hanging my black metal sword and going mage
Like I said though, I fought her at least 10 times before I got her down to under 10 minutes.
It's mostly the adds that were a pain in the ass and wasn't aware of the poison too
I usually fight her with Mistwalker and Demolisher for the mobs. So I am not sure how well the BM sword does against her.
I had bm sword and my buddy had frostner/demo
Krom.
Was hitting 200 with special attack from behind otherwise 80-100 ish
Yeah, I am not that comfortable with two handers in general. Plus I don't like that it needs bronze to craft.
I wanted to do mage but I didnt feel like leveling before getting to the queen
Heh, Krom is actually the most metal hungry weapon, even more than Silver sword.
Mine down a few ancient Armor or Ancient Swords and you got more copper as you will need for the sword.
got the eitr-weave set with frost/protection staff now
But I love 2h weapons.
The queen doesn’t have weak points, the direction doesn’t matter
I tried out mage a couple of times. I'm just far more comfortable with melee, plus I don't want all those skill s to go to waste, so I just stay melee now a days.
Isnt her back her weakness kind of tho like Seekers tho?
Nope.
Only seeker soldiers, gjalls and trolls have weak points
aaah oh well, now im scared of the next biome to come lol
first time weve seen an ashland biome was random af when looking for queen and we got anhiliated by those water monsters
I think the next boss is a push over, aside from his one very over powered attack. Get rid of that and he is a marshmallow.
its more of all the monsters there making it a true hellscape 😛 at least from the little bits ive seen from clips
The ones he summons are weak, on purpose.
With a cultivator, you make it at the forge.
sounds like latin
Its basically a garden rake.
can't even make a farm until I beat eikthyr
True. You need metals.
will it work to just kill them in leather armor
Yeah, plus as good shield, and the flint axe works fine.
You could also use fire arrows and flint arrows, but that just takes longer.
I use the tower shield and flint axe. I usually beat him in a few minutes.
do regular arrows not work?
Just wood? Yeah, they work, just the least amount of damage is all.
For Eik they are quite enough 😄
It will go fastest with shield and a weapon. I use the flint axe.
Oh, and tower shield, since most people love to parry.
Tower Shields only block, if you don't realize that yet.
i have a level 3 flint axe
Perfect. As far as I am concerned.
Now just make whichever shield you prefer, and you should do just fine.
Higher would be better, it always is, but you can still do it well enough.
robert how far are you
Over 5200 hours worth of "far".
ok
Don't worry about skill levels at the start, they raise up quite fast as you use the weapons more.
Yep. I go relatively slow, so my skill is usually close to 30 by the time I want to defeat Eikthyr. So you just won't beat him as fast as I would, but you will still beat him.
Also: the game is designed to be able to defeat all bosses without a single point in a skill.
And quality 1 weapons/armor of the biome.
Doesn't mean it's easy without a point in a skill, but it's doable. The skills only give some benefits for the use of the weapons.
I knew this one. I guess having a zero skill also makes sense, its just the first time I have heard that.
My wife plays like that. Even after 2600 hours. A shield will help you die less often is all I will say.
Oh my.... I'm being hunted by sea-wolves.... 🐺
Whoop already got a one-star buddy for my Asksvin, sweet!
I think I should do some more hunting so I can get plenty of resources in store in case I do die
Never a bad idea. In any survival game.
Was nervous business kiting that guy into the pit, every hit staggered me through block
As Robert said, not a bad idea. But if you die dont worry too much since you will not loose any items permanently, they will wait for you in your grave. 🙂
Won't happen with a Tower Shield. Meaning the BM version. I call it a beast for reasons.
Plus you can change the world settings so you lose a lot less, both in gear and skill loss.
I was on a bit lowish foods, I think that was more the case. 160 health is a bit low when trying to block a starred thing in Ashlands
Especially the heavy hitters
That is a bit low. Not sure how I would do even with a BM shield in that case.
Was worried a while, a one-star warrior instagibbed me through block the other day
What’s the recommended gb # for a dedicated server for around 4 people? No mods
RAM? Whatever the system requirements are, so minimum 16 I think. 32 doesn't hurt but you should be fine on 16 tbh
The most your able to provide. It might cut down on lag issues. Maybe.
Gotcha
The "chunk leader" is the biggest problem on servers. You want the person with the best internet and system to lead the way into areas.
You also want them to be in the bow of the boats.
It still will not eliminate issues, but it will reduce severity.
ah
👍🏻
oh I don't have any idea what item I offer to the altar
deer trophies. 3 of them.
ohhhhhh
-# 2
i guess that explains hunt his kin
Yep, it is a hint to what you hunt 😄
Is it only 2? Heh.
Yeah 😄 the next boss needs 3 things
I fight him at least twice, so always have more trophies than I need anyways.
Usually same. I want the trophy for my house 😄
I'm just preparing for just that. The trophy for myself.
Except this time I'm going to make it a very short fight.
Got Dead Raiser and Protection staff at tier 3, got the ember staff at tier 1.
I don't think this fight will last long. 😄
Which boss?
Tbh, even with gear from BF it is VERY short fight
Eik. 😄
Thats not even a fight. Its a slaughter.
I don't know what any of that stuff is so I think you might be able to kill him
Fight is on Hard level. So it's a bit longer as it usually will be.
About 10 seconds, I think. 😄
I've never tried those settings, so I have no idea.
Well, nobody said the fight should be fair.
Besides, the b!tch called "Queen" is using unfair tactics either,
Yeah, she is still the most difficult fight even on standard, in my book.
Well, it took me 4 fireballs, 1 hit of a skellie and 6 second to deal with him.
Next: The Elder. 🙂
I think I'm going to let the skellies do the fight that time. At least it'll be a bit more fun to watch.
They should still kill him pretty quick. Again, I just don't know, since I have never used those settings.
He is. The next one won't be as easy, but still not bad, as long as your properly prepared.
It is kinda tutorial boss 😄
The fireballs and the fire dot already removed about 90-95% of his health.
So in regards of that I didn't even need the skellies.
But it was fun for as long as it lasted.
As for the settings, bosses got a bit more HP and hit harder iirc.
While player hits for less.
That's not really a problem with Eik and the Elder. But from Boneblob on things will be a bit harder.
With Yag and the Queen being quite a PitA. One due to his spells, one due to the minions she keeps summoning.
And what I also discovered: Queen is able to demolish her lair now.
He still kills plenty of players.
True true 😄
I think Eik is a perfect first/tutorial boss. He looks cool, he sounds cool and he will destroy players who haven't even grasped the basics of eating food and combat. But anyone who has learned the basics won't have any problems.
She has always been able to damage it, as far as I can remember. It just never got to the level of what I would call "demolished".
The sound track is pretty epic.
that was fun
i was iffy on boss fights in a survival game at first
but now I have an idea of where this is going
Before the nerf, the entrance wall was unable to be damaged. Which is why people abused it.
Same was for the ledges.
But my last fight I jumped from the top floor to a ledge and she was able to destroy it when standing below it when using that hard smash she does.
Surprisingly, the seekers still can't get up to those ledges.
Yeah, plus these fights are mandated by Odin, so its also part of the over all story. So it all fits well enough as you go along.
Yeah, OK, she doesn't destroy that area, but she damages a lot of things internally. Probably even the ledges you describe. I just try to melee her in that main first floor area, so only see what she destroys around there.
I'll be.....
I summoned a skellie named..... Gloin
Very fitting.
And a challenge!
A bear and a troll decided to join the fight.
So Elder for the skellies, the other two for me. 🙂
Sadly i dont think others from your company are possible to get xD
is there a way to get hard antlers in the wild?
No, only the boss gives them.
3 is plenty, though. You can build a bench when you need to repair them. Which is easy to do in the case of copper.
I use the bone pickaxes through the swamp and skip copper
Right. Skellies don't work against the Elder.
They're too distracted by one of his attacks.
(Can't say anything because of spoilers)
I can guess which one. Probably.
What's worse, he also destroyed part of my portal hub.
So I have to rebuild that. 🙁
Lesson learned: Don't fight a boss when his altar is above your portal hub.
fighting with skeletons isn't spoilers but elder attacks are?
Yup.
That's called Dwarven logic. 😄
But the underlying thought:
The Elder is a boss someone will encounter sooner as the moment the skellies can be summoned.
So while the skellies are somewhat a spoiler, it's something in a far future, while the Elder fight isn't.
I guess I'm a dwarf, I get that logic.
Guys, I've finally 'finished' the structure of my base, would love any tips to help make it look better ❤️ https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202303747053846608
Well, you might consider to put your farm in your front yard. You will also get items over time to decorate your walls with.
I still need to teleport and boat over all my stuff from my starter base, not done any decorating yet but I'll be able to make the courtyard look better 😄
Remember, if you have done a lot of terraforming you can make earth walls and open ground (without buildings) look much better with the "Grass" function on the cultivator
Makes rock look more natural instead of the pickaxed pattern
My base is a big terraformed square but I will put some grass and cobblestone down as paths between my base and outbuildings
(I always go back and "grassify" old mining holes to make them less of an eyesore...)
Very well, I'm afraid that I will get less and less active here, kind of close to point where i will be straight up gone for this server until final major update comes. Because we recently finished journey for now.
I just realized something.
Have you found that trader in the Swamp yet?
If you have, she's got some seeds you can buy.
Plant those about half an meter (see the with of a wooden beam) from your wall and it'll give some nice decoration.
And another tip: you can use the seed growing versions of some food plants as decoration in front of your walls as well.
Yeah I've found 3 traders, I had enough building for today though im on Balatro lol
Mistlands and mountains might be my fav biomes
Mistlands definitely. 🤝
I like the frost caves. But mistlands with magic, wahooo is this shit the next level
Both biomes do have very neat dungeons.
I wonder if theyll add dungeons or something unique to plains with 1.0 that would be shweet
is it normal for there to be 2 altars
there's one literally just outside my base i realized
That remains to be seen, but IMO plains is fine without those closed in dungeons.
There are three "dungeon like" instances in the plains though.
They're fun to deal with, although you need to prepare quite well for them.
Good point, I probably died the most in plains so far but it went by fast overall
Yeah, plus villages could be considered as plains "dungeons". Which is welcome change at that point.
At least one of my friends in my group absolutely loves clearing them villages.
And they also were thrilled about the addition of ||viles||.
Havent encountered one of those yet
ah got it
nvm
read context wrong lol
looking for a dedicated server.
Have you been looking in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 yet? You may find one over there.
is the game worth it
i'm considering grabbing it, but i dont really have any friends to play with lol..
np it can be addictive even without friends
And you can even poke around in #1024264966712340510 to find others to play with, if you want
If you like to run around to slaughter things, building a great looking - or a very efficient - base and sailing and don't mind the occasional grind, this game may indeed be worth it.
Considering there are a lot of people here having over 1K hours - and I know there are people who got over 5K - I'd say it's worth grabbing it. Even if you don't spend that much time. But 100 hrs or more is easily done.
Ah, okay, so it's just an exploration type of open world game and generated worlds, dungeons and crafting trees i assume
because I like Terraria and Palworld
you'll i like it
one of the best games of this type I've ever played
It's a sandbox survival game. Some compare it to Enshrouded and Minecraft and those two have similarities with Valheim.
One of the things Valheim does different is that you will have to defeat a boss to process on to the next biome; but at the same time there's tricks and glitches that makes it possible to skip some steps of the progress. With the exception of one boss.
It offers challenges, especially when you enter a new biome, but the game is also set up that you should be able to defeat a biome's boss with the first tier of that biome's armor and weapons. And even without having a skill in the weapons you use.
Hmmmm. That sounds as if I'm trying to sell the game again. 😄
Valheim's in rotation with 2 other games for me rn
i have 13 hours
since I got it sunday
or saturday
One of the days that end in Y
it was saturday
It's the week between Christmas and New Years time has lost all meaning and you can have fudge for breakfast who cares
Russian fudge? 👀
I don't know what that is and I'm afraid to google it. No.
Vanilla Fudge?
but alas, fudge is not in Valheim
alas
why is sometimes I load up and my screen skips bad and its all laggy like?
Like its skipping half the frames
Well when I cap it to 120 it smoothes out. Something to do with the frametimes ig when its set to unlimited
Mine gets like that if I've done more than like, 25³m of terraforming in an area.
Copper ingots
I think its apple music. When I press play it starts laggin lol maybe its my macbooks gamemode twitchin
Cant a man game and listen to adele at once?
mine lags when i have to many trees chopped and nothing picked up.
also read online that having too many things ready to pickup or chopped can lead to lag. so may be that, idk, not an expert
That makes sense, happens on minecraft as well. But its something external causing it like I mentioned, like gamemode not sure where to send resources
Anyone wanna play together?
Please use the #1024264966712340510 channel to find other valheim players
Any seeds with land at the edge of the world?
I would assume not as there is a strong force that pulls anything near the edge, over the edge.. thus no land will be on the edge.
It doesn't have to be right at the edge. My world is pretty close, but anything closer would be cool. Close enough to dangle a structure over or right at.
Was wondering is all
right right ... I think you can get about 30m before the currents get too strong for anything buildable ...
so if you can build out 30m+ .. then "maybe"
how is that my Moder is surrounded by plains and mistalnds and it's that hard to reach 😭
That's unfortunate. Mine was really close to spawn on the same continent.
Any tips when to shift from single item foods to feast items?
There is more than 1 location to find. So you could do that.
Even though crossing plains in silver gear is not hard. It's what you go into the plains with anyways.
We started using the Meadows Feast as soon as we could.
-- 1 Stm 1 Health 1 Meadow Feast
Then we moved to the Swamp Feast
-- 1 Stm 1 Health 1 Swamp Feast
and so on and so on ...
This worked well for our group as we tended to return home every other night.
There would be a feast on the table and we would only carry 2 foods on us (this freed up a limited inventory slot)
Although the feast stats are not as great as single item foods right? So it's an interesting trade off.
I've got the tray but I'll need to search the wiki page to work out how to craft the feasts. It seems like it involves combining every food from a particular biome but there's also feasts that mix between different biomes.
depends on what you're building up for
for example 2 feasts + 1 hp food is usually better than 2 hp food + 1 stam food
The feasts are 35/35, then 45/45, etc... so good for both hp and stamina and last 50 minutes.
they're incredible for multiplayer when food stores evaporate fast
Not what I use in the toughest biome, but good for the easier biomes.
the lategame feasts are also a big boon for allowing non-magic users to cast bubbles
hello . why is there no black metal buckler and spears ??
At swamp state you could easily survive having constantly all first 3 feasts. With them your stats are 130 HP and 155 stamina.
I've used HFS setup regularly in later biomes (from mountain/plains) for having nice balanced stats, sometimes HFF for more HP but fair amount of stamina.
The benefit for using feasts is also saving item slot per feast used as you don't need to carry as many foods with you, only to refresh the regular foods.
it also enables using magic as a side grade without tanking the rest of your stats, which is nice
Interesting tips, thanks everyone.
There is 3 location where you can fight moder , if you really don't want to risk it go in a complete other direction and look for a big mountain there
moder is almost as bad as yag to find
that being said vegvisirs are the easier way in her case
Yea and you might find more frost caves , which who says no to that
What makes Yag harder to find is the rarity of his vegvisirs found on surface and no dungeons that could have vegvisirs like with all previous 3 bosses.
Idk why but in 90% of my playthrough I always find yag location even before I ever need it xD
yag also spawns in wide open plains and has 5 massive towers around it
And once you find vegvisir it's like this: #screenshots message
i finally got the bear head
omg
i have more than half a chest full of bear pelts
I found Yag on our current play before I found Haldor and the bog witch
Sailing along and see the fingers
I've got a whole iron chest's worth of troll hide XD
I had to cross plains for mine
It ain't hard, at max 2 deathsquitos you'd find. Anyway you will use silver gear to raid the first few fuling villages when you reach plains
I use 1 feast with 2hp in the mistlands and it works well
As long you use root harnesk you can pretty much go into plains naked with a knife and just speed through it
Everything in plains is easily avoidable except deathquios
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Black_metal_shield?so=search
This is your black metal parry shield.
Not every biome has weapon teirs for each weapon.
I make sets of troll armor and put them on armor displays as if they were guards. Even give them a bow or a spear
I swim in troll hide and I found that to be a way to use it
Hmmm, I think you just gave me a nice idea to make my base look a bit more "lively" and better looking. 🙂
Not dead just resting its eyess

Btw i got the bear head after killing my second bear on my first play through so i didnt know why you guys were saying its rare?
It's not necessarily rare, I think the drop rate is 10%. It's just that bears are hard to kill and don't spawn that often.
I think i got it again so i should have had 2 bear head but i through it away cause i did not have any inv space
XD
Bears are indeed hard to kill, for me they aint that rare maybe bcs im not actively looking
They spawn more often than trolls
I feel like Bears have an unnecessarily large HP bar
The moment you start actively looking i think thats when the game decides it doesnt wanna spawn what your looking for
Its the same to me with abominations
Thats why i stopped looking for abominations
So they spawn more often
It's not much bigger than a troll, and their lower damage means you can parry them with early equipment for more damage
As soon as you have an axe and enough to parry them they die very fast
They are pretty chunky bois - but it helps to use slashing weapons on them. Spears, bows and clubs make it take a looong time to kill them. Use axe or sword - win!
Right, but Trolls are weak to Pierce while Bears have no weaknesses
Also, Pierce weapons tend to have pretty high DPS (Bows, Spears, Atgeirs)
I remember fighting a Bear with Thundering Berserkir Axes and taking longer than what it takes to kill a Charred Warrior
They have 200 more health
Fire damage
Fire arrows are a godsend agains Bears. Playing with Fire Hazards on, fire arrows leave fire puddles on the ground which drastically speed up killing large mobs like Greydwarf Brutes and Bears
Seekers have 200 HP
the physical resistance means that's effectively 400 for most weapons
It would be so cool with a survival game similar to Valheim but in a world of Greek mythology - or even ancient Egypt, lol - i dunno, just brainstorming
Have you checked Dawn of Defiance? It's Greek mythology based survival game.
That's pretty cool - the rating doesn't seem the best, though (7/10 on Steam). I have read a lot of Reddit posts about recommendations of different survival games. Honestly, I never heard anyone mentioning this one.
I saw it first time on YouTube where one Valheim content creator tried it.
How was your impression? Anything slightly resembling Valheim vibes?
Also, remember someone's trash is someone's treasure.
It was long time since I've watched it.
There are 2 survival games that changed me forever, and I was never able to find any games that evoke similar vibes and feels of adventure, mystery and danger. Valheim and ... I will give you the chance to guess the second one 😄
There are quite many.
-# Terraria, Minecraft, Grounded, 7DTD etc.
It's a game like no other.
You have to build something huge.
And it's basically a horror game, even though it's not really marketed like that
hello , im new ,just downloaded the game
Sorry, brain not braining.
But we can continue in General chat so we won't derail too much.
hi guys! im new here, I am planning to buy valheim. is it worth it?
Its among my top 5 most played. I would say 100% worth it.
Im afraid I have no one to play with, I have played games same like this before, but ofc it is much more fun with other players.
There is #1024264966712340510, or honestly i could be tempted to put a server together if i can find a suitable machine to host it on.
I'm from asia, Ph specifically, i would love if they have dedicated servers for those too
Fun. I wish you luck, I would encounter a lot of lag if I did try to join you.
I won't be surprised if they do exist there, I just don't pay them any notice because the lag would drive me insane.
$10 on Steam rn. I paid twice that and Steam says I have 3600 hours into it. I'm not sure I've ever had anything entertain me for ... less than half a penny per hour.
this is the most hilarious and helpful feedback I want to hear HAHA
As far as "games still being worked on" go it feels like a very complete experience. My biggest recommendation is: play it with friends. The main adventure is a good time but the best times I've had - and I know how cheesy this sounds - were the adventures along the way.
Thank you, mate!
It depends a lot of if you've played survival games before.
Valheim is sandbox survival with procedurally generated worlds (each seed generates different world) and it has linear progression direction (gather materials, craft, make foods, kill boss, enter next biome, repeat). You can also build fine halls, castles or just smaller bases, all up to you.
One significant difference compared to many other survival games is that in Valheim you don't need to sleep/eat/drink to keep yourself alive, rather there are different food items that grant you different stats (HP/stamina) which helps you survive better.
Valheim is balanced around solo play experience but co-op is also fun with close friends.
I will keep that in mind
does it have dungeons? just curious HAHA
Yep. I'm over 5200 hours now, and I also paid $20 for it. Definitely the best value for my money for any game I have ever played.
Several different kinds, and all procedurally generated
I like playing with unknown people, I like the "lord of the flies" vibe
There are several different dungeons. 👍
thats it, im buying it
Im a loot goblin myself
ah yes, the best vibes i ever had in a survival game
MY LIFE IS A LIE!!!
swords and maces have the same exact attack speed stamina drain, and combo and (i only checked with blackmetal and bronze) the same damage. so knockback and damage type is the ONLY difference
- multitarget penalty
the game is in early access, so it means it is progressively updating, wow
and maces get their frost based war crime of a weapon 2 biomes earlier lmao
I give you few advices:
going blind gives the best experience, learn basic mechanics from adviceful bird, preparation increases your survivability and have fun.
isnt the secondary attack different too?
YES i plan to run like an hour or more without searching in the internet, and figuring it out myself
Did you ever try DayZ? 😄
Game has gotten many updates during the EA phase, next update will add the last biome and move game from EA to 1.0.
oh yeah, it is you're right. one does 2X the other does 2.5X
that is superb, also. What is valheim dedicated server exactly for?
it's kinda funny to realize the devs just balanced everything by making the damage number go up by 10 and changing the sprite
Dedicated server is hosted in another machine or by 3rd party host, it means people who have access to the server can join anytime vs. world hosted by someone when people can join when host is online.
got it, thanks!
Not gonna push it, as this is Valheim chat and it's another game. Suffice to say that as far as sandbox survival without handholding or rules goes, that's as raw as it gets. Strangers - regardless of game - do bring a certain spice of "is this guy a psycho or someone I can trust" to the table...
If you play solo you don't need to host server, you just open your world.
Is there a loose time frame for the release of the last biome? I just know it's supposed to be early next year
really? i thought it was late next year at the erliest
There is no estimate, loose or otherwise.
Nothing is known, not even if it is early 2026 or late, until there is an official communication from the devs, anything you read is pure speculation.
Oh? I hadn't heard that
Nobody did, at least from devs.
So it's probably out within the next week
We have literally no info...
There are plenty of channels and voices here and there that make deductions based on previous patterns, what is shown from the brief teaser videos the devs post and so on. Then they post this as their guesstimates - and then others quote these things out of context, and suddenly the "devs" have said this and that. So, if you want actual information look up the devs official channels. If there's nothing there it is because there is actually no info to be had. Just guesstimates by yourman.
The next biome is supposed to be able to be integrated into the existing world without issue right?
As long as you haven't explored the north.
Yep
Good
Now as Deep North will also be 1.0 I expect it to take a good while more for development and internal testing - then a longer public testing than with any previous update. Can't have a 1.0 that breaks the game...
Are they putting out more biomes past 1.0?
No
No official info from Iron Gate, so any other source is false.
No.
Smiffe pretty much said that early yesterday. So even the guessing based upon previous releases may not be good guessing. 😄
-# You shouted almost.
-# was gonna say, that panicked no woke me up a bit
-# Left my finger on Shift bit too long xD
My hands are bit cold so their movements are not as precise as the typing would require xD
-# Watch out, Winter is not deaf from her eyes.
Walked up the mountain to collect some frost glands - because I go through frost arrows in Ashlands at a frightening rate - came back with my pockets full of silver. Found an exposed silver vein, can't leave those behind unclaimed...
I'm so easily distracted
Maybe they will give us more things to use silver for with 1.0...?
With this vein I thought I'd make a stack of silver arrows, spirit damage kinda shines in Ashlands after all!
Never ever crafted arrows of any metal kind before
True. I'll have to try them out next time.
My arrow progression is usually Flint - Needle - Carapace for regular damage, and I always have a stack of Frost at hand
And of course looted arrows get used, best chest loot there is
Neither I, until Ashlands and figuring out silver arrows can be useful too there.
I did craft obsidian arrows a while until I realised it was just a waste of obsidian, need it for frost arrows...
I use obsidian in the mountains and plains. Then use needle in Mistlands. In Ashlands I have been just using Ash arrows, but I will try out silver next time.
Now I am extremely pleased with my base, but now I need to figure out a way to build an Asksvin pen that A) they won't tear down every time a greyling startles them and B) That doesn't ruin the looks of the base. Not an easy nut to crack, Asksvin are big and destructive...
Kinda toying with the idea to build it in a copper pit in the forest a bit away, but then I need to go there and afk for them to breed
I just use raised earth, then cap them off with stone floor pieces. They look good to me. Of course I make them straight, etc...
If I left them sloped and pudgy looking I'd think they were ugly too.
I did that on my other world, I made a raised platform and built a simple wooden barn around them. It was raised high enough that mobs wouldn't startle them, and no windows so flying crap could get in. I could do something like that out on the plains on the way to the dock. Still need to go afk nearby though, I was hoping to squeeze them in somewhere inside the walls but I doubt that is feasible
I left mine in the Ashlands. That pen actually looks ugly, because Ashlands is ugly, so I don't care.
I usually use the "grass" action on the cultivator to make earth walls look more natural, it removes that ugly terraformed pattern. Or I encase them in purely cosmetic stone walls
I actually like that pattern. Looks far better than just white stone to me.
that's what i did the only time i've ever used terrain walls of any kind (hiding it behind bricks)
I'm on a no-portals run, so I'm bringing the breeding ones home to have everything nearby. The two I captured will stay in the pit in the ashlands...
TROLLS ARE STRONG
Once I actually keep playing past beating Fader, I'll bring them back to my main bases as well.
Yes. Did you meet your first one today?
and even slower than they are strong :^)
I slashed at em with my copper knife and it seemed to have dented him slightly
Then he hit you back, eh?
he didn't like that
Bears have even more HP.
he took down 4/5 of my HP lmao
At least they are not resistant to slash.
and I was blocking I think
You can block them just fine with the bone tower shield and about 120 HP.
I'm guessing I need to kill one to unlock more copper recipes?
nah
Troll? No, they just unlock their armor set.
oh
copper is combined with tin at the forge to make bronze, that unlocks most metal stuff
also you can stunlock trolls from full hp to zero in like 5 seconds
oh I got tin ore didn't smelt
Once you do that you will see you can make bronze at your forge.
As far as blocking goes - as in NOT parrying but just soaking the hit in a block pose - it is genuinely useless to block with any weapon. Blocking with a buckler is slightly better than a weapon, but bucklers are designed around being used to PARRY, so they demand a bit of timing. Blocking with a shield works, and blocking with a tower shield is where it truly shines.
my inventory is a mess
i see
I start with one wood chest per mat type.
learn to parry, it really helps with blitzing enemies
i did not take organizations into account when building my base 😅
Downside with depending on parry is that when fighting multiple enemies it is hard to time parries and not get hit unprotected in between. Depending on how big the gang is borderline impossible. Hence I have never liked bucklers...
I stopped using parry in my first play through. Initially it was because it made the game too easy, along with dodge rolling. Then I started doing zero death runs, and even one death due to a missed parry became unacceptable. Blocking is far more reliable. So blocking has been all I do for about 5000 hours now.
Regular round shield has decent block value, so even if you don't land the parry it will protect you a fair deal. It has a strong enough parry value to be good at that too, so to me the bucklers are just something for the sweats who like to dance around the battlefield playing invincible until something hits them straight in the face 😄
the trick is to use parries to wipe enemies before they get to pile up on you but hey, atgeir supremacy
can you take wood from wood stacks or is that just useless decoration
Deconstruct it and get the wood back
You have to take the entire stack.
it's useful for storing wood out in the middle of nowhere without it despawning - you don't need a workbench around to place resource piles
I only do that Until I have portals. Then I just carry the portal mats with me and port home all of my wood mats. IE wood, resin, seeds, feathers.
Now if I ever do a no portal run, that will obviously change.
Yeah no-portals changes everything. But in a good way, to me at least. No-map I would only find frustrating, but no-portals makes me appreciate the ships and some of the tools we get (pathify, paved roads - more than just decoration). I feel like no-portals is the way the game should be played, portals should be unlocked much later - maybe in Mistlands, but definitely not earlier. That's just how I feel about it. I won't ever play with portals before Ashlands again anyways.
(Ashlands on the other hand is such an unenjoyable biome to be in that I have - in my no-portals run, as I had planned all along - activated portals so I have a stone portal in my Ashlands base leading back to my home base. It is the only portal I will allow myself.)
Had to sail the drackar back out through the maze to set it up too, so it feels deserved 😄
Another way to make portals much less of a game-breaking convenience would be to allow enemies to portal through
woah I just unlocked portals
See... too early! 😄
i really need a home expansion with all these unlocks lmao
I'm just kidding - if you like what they do then use the bejeesus out of them, there's no "right" way to play the game, only your way!
i got a bronze axe
exploration's one of my favorite parts of the game so i probably won't be using portals too much anyhow
If I remember right there is ONE specific (and very annoying) enemy who can actually use portals
They will not encounter taht one for a while though 😄
True
-# And honestly i never actually wound up in a situation they could do it
I did actually, on my last server. Me and my brother had located the queen on a very remote island and made landfall to set up a bridghehead base to start pushing inlands towards the queen. While we were building the outpost we got a gjall raid, so we fled - and yeah...
Is there going to be a dev post for this month? Like Build of the month or something
Later I sailed back and dug a cave under a mountain to hide the portal haha
is there a way later to increase how much weight I can carry?
Find the trader
Nope, no devblog for december sadly
oh yeah I did a while ago
And later on there is another way, and later on another
they have the big money bag on the map right?
Look at the belt he sells 🙂
I have 100 something gold
Yes big money bag
Do you have also some valuables like amber, ruby or amber pearls?
yes!
Take them too 😄 you can sell them
Then raid some more burial chambers, they tend to provide treasure. And killing trolls of course, if that is your thing...
Troll caves can have a surprising amount of gems in them
That is why i asked about the valuables xD
You can also find treasure in chests outside of dungeons. Like digging for them in the stone "boats". chests in the overhead of the outhouses, chests in many of the houses and towers, etc... and just lying on stones or in the grass where you find bones under those supported rocks. Once you know where you can find it, 950 gold becomes pocket change.
would you rather have no portals or no map?
No portals, no question
(But again, give me a no-map light where the cartography table is the one way to access the entire map)
Gonna keep spitting on that stone until it happens
I get lost even with the maps, so if I HAD to chose one of the two, no portals.
I need the map for my own pins more than anything
Yeah. I'd just love to see the Cartography table have some use in a single player context
Besides decoration
+bringing new char to that world
And while a pure no-map run would not be something the least bit attractive to me, one where I can go to the table and make plans, hell yeah, that I'd like
Also, I would like to ask for some light source to get bumped up the queue with regards to rendering. I built a big, tall light house on a reef offshore of my main base. Now when I sail towards this base from far away, the first thing that renders in is a <BLEEP>ING birch tree on the shore, then the tower itself and THEN the actual bloody bonfire I lit at its top. Please, please PLEASE for the love of Odin make the light from the bonfire at least render in at the same distance as the FUDGING TREES!!!!
Aaaaargh!
My light house is a good 50-100 meters offshore btw, it is far enough offshore that when I am in my house it will not render, I will see the jetty I built to walk out to it, and the boats moored next to it, but the tower won't render until I walk closer to the beach - and the bonfire a further few meters later. It's all backwards... 😕
Yeah, I no longer even bother with building light houses, or even using bon fires, because of this.
Yeah. This is the one thing I feel I am going to use mods for once 1.0 is out. (Unless it is changed before then ofc...)
Years ago, my buddy even did the fire works feature on our bonfire. Still didn't render better than the trees.
-# I've recently built a proper lighthouse in my co-op world from surplus stones we had. 😅
Thing with light houses is they need a light source that can be seen from far away, or they're just decoration 😕
I spawn large demisters for piers/etc
My group liked what I built.
I can see the fires in fuling camps from further away than I can see my own fires.
odd since those are also bonfires
Exactly.
Good point - you'll see the fires long before the structures render in. Why don't player built bonfires work the same?
But I also see their camp fires.
Might even be a bug, or an "unintended feature", maybe one of the lurking devs can enlighten us on that?
does terrain distance affect the light?
I doubt Smiffe knows, and he said the others won't be back in office for him to ask questions of for about another week.
Dunno, I never ran on anything but max everything
I know campfires will initially show as an orange blob until it renders, regardlesss of whether its lit or not
Yeah, I find that odd as well. They will show as lit, but then not be lit once you get close. 😄
Yeah, I always took that as a bit of lag - I sailed by this fuling village once but didn't see it, now as I approach it and enter distance I see the fires for a second and then the game calculates SHIT ALL THE FUEL IS GONE and poof.
About that - I think as long as there are fulings alive in a village the fires should be resupplied
It will do this weirdness even on a direct approach.
Not often, but often enough.
Even weirder, the fires aren't supposed to start "burning" until we've come close enough for them to render
Are we talking the same game here? 😄 I meant Subnautica, which I later wrote in General chat
But yes, Valheim also had amazing vibes for me, just in a different way
subnautica wipes are basically unbeaten, yes
My hands and fingers are starting to itch real bad. I haven't played Valheim for 1½ year or so... and I haven't even touched Ashlands yet. I am saving all of that energy for 1.0 but the wait is becoming unbearable.
"Wipes". 😄 😄 😄 Funniest mis spelling of the day, so far.
I just took that to mean "deaths."
Pretty sure they meant vibes, but that works too.
All I know about that game is you swim, and you get mauled by giant monsters. So yeah, I'd say that's a reasonable thought.
I haven't played it in many years, so recall very little about it. I did not get into it much at all. So I might have 40 hours of playing it. Maybe.
I think I accidentally set my light setting to "realistic" or something like that (in Subnautica). And as a result I could only see a few meters forward. When I had to go to a really deep place in a really huge vessel, it was really hard to descend into the depth, because I was constantly bumping into things - it was that dark. and because of that I always had to leave my vessel to scout and to leave light thingies for myself, as a guide. And it was scary AF. I imagine if Valheim had deep caves like that or underwater mechanics - it might also achieve a certain level of horror, in a similar manner.
still accurate tbh
One of the scariest things for me in Valheim, however (besides the stupid deathsquittos), was in the Swamps at night. A flying ghost appeared above the water and chased me, while I was sailing away. It ALMOST caught up to me. The first sea monster / serpent encounter was also pretty scary
no portals
no map would be catastrophic
Would be cool if you could do primitive drawings on a board or something like that, in the game, itself. This might be a suggestion for a future feature. Creating dummy maps for approximate locations.
I watched a no portal/map stream once, he was putting signs and roads everywhere
You have to do that, and keep a physical map as well.
what happens when you click a vegvisir? just nothing?
You should get a message.
For a boss? Or just the basic runestones?
for a boss in a no map run
The screen will actually rotate to point you in the direction of the boss
A shitload of years ago I played this dungeon delving game called "Dungeon Master". It was the basis on which the "Eye of the Beholder" franchise was inspired - so WAY fricking back. Anyway it was this enormous labyrinthine dungeon, and there was no map function whatsoever. So if you didn't want to get helplessly lost you had to make your own maps and keep track of where the feck you were going. Awesome game, but man now I am starting to wonder what year it was...
Early 90's.
I think I've played that, is that the one with the tesseracts so you can't even map it really?
Dang, late 80's? BTW, I am old.
There were some levels that would change randomly so they couldn't be mapped, but that came really deep down the dungeon
Hahaha, reading the wikipedia entry about the game now and one comment is the lack of a map makes the game "extremely difficult". Yeah that's how I remember it, I had a stack of papers with maps that I was browsing profusely as I played it.
Anyway - no-map can be fun, but to be perfectly honest I think that for it to truly work in Valheim it needs to be worked into a synergy with the cartography table so you can actually access a proper map when at the table. That way you can make plans on how to go about exploration even if you can't have the full map on call at any time.
I created a suggestion for a DIY-ingame-map
The big question is - what if you die. Should you be able to at least get an ingame hint on where your gravestone is? Kinda like when looking for silver ore
Coz if you died half a world away and you didn't leave any trails behind. GL, hf, searching for your corpse until you are 80 years old
Easy enough to implement in game. You simply don't get to use "M" but whatever you explore still registers, so when you copy to the Cartography Table you provide all your uncovered stuff, and when you read it you see all that you and anybody else who has interacted with that table have explored.
As for death, yes I think seeing your grave on the map should be base level...
I personally can't imagine myself playing like that unless there were ingame tools to support playing without M. The payoff of playing without M should be greater than the suffering that comes with it
Yeah, no-map is not the most popular way to play the game for a reason - but still some of us do like it that way!
Sure, for streamers and "content creators" it could be fun, but as a solo player who plays offline - I can't imagine that many people would go through something like that
The main thing is. Playing without map should feel like a strategic puzzle game that stimulates creativity
A limitation is imposed upon you and you have to overcome it with the tools you got. Leaving stuff in the world that helps you navigate, forcing you to take notes irl, and so on
That's pretty much how it works out now, yeah
Ok here is a random idea - if you build a beacon, lighthouse or a smoke signal, it could be added to the ingame-map that you build yourself, over time. But building one of these takes time and resources
But if you build on of these it could have 2 huge benefits. You can see in the world if there are no obstructions on the horizon. And it could be added to the map.
I think it will mitigate the complete lack of map ("M") and create a balance of map VS no-map
Besides, I imagine it would feel good to be lost and finally finding one of your own navigational creations in the world
skyrim sstyle compass at the top, and you can see lighthouse pips on it, maybe color coded for distance
If you build the most advanced lighthouse in the game, and you climb high enough, it could emit light from anywhere in the world. If something like this existed in the game, I would be motivated to play without the conventional, convenient map that we have now
Also, in a game about Vikings who primarily travelled by sea, lighthouses and such would make sense
So, let me recap all of my ideas as a short summary: You build a map-board as a furniture you can place in your base. On it you can draw simple objects (using chalk or with colors using dyes from plants, etc.)
On top of that you can build lighthouses, beacons or smoke signals. Different pros and cons. Simplest ones are just for you to see in the world. The most advanced ones will be added to your map automatically.
If you die and you are totally screwed and you can't find your corpse, there should be emergency solutions you can work towards to make the game help you in the right direction. These "solutions" will take time, ofc.
The navigation in the world meta game could be fun, actually, if there were proper game mechanics to support it.
render distance is capped at about 120m away from your character, 200m for certain things like trees and large rocks
Yeah this is it. I think they need to go through whatever chart it is that decides what renders when, because as is it is kinda weird...
I refuse to believe that allowing light sources to render a couple of hundred meters earlier would completely tank performance for everyone
it doesnt need to be a light source, per se, similar to the lit campfire bug, just need some kind of dot imo
#screenshots message @edgy warren Bear meat is not added to the list of items wolves eat, same as Mistlands/Ashlands tier meats. They eat chicken meat IIRC.
-# Sidenote: as your screenshot is clearly showing modded terrain it should belong to https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934384643154001
Whatever it is, my take is that some players being on absolute shite systems that don't even comply with minimum system requirements should not dictate these things in-game.
Glad that's for the devs to decide then.
lol you'd rather it be the opposite?
Lighthouse light should be an exception, where its light is rendered on the horizon no matter the view distance (just a subtle flicker in the background caused by a simple animated 2D sprite of a few frames)
Regarding the system performance. I still play on GTX 1070, which is my old, loyal veteran workhorse. I found that the earlier biomes run fine, but the later bioms kinda lag slightly, which is a shame, because it seems like they are going away from the simple world design of the earlier biomes. Not sure if it changed... been a while since I played
the vikings had maps, but no portals
you can't prove that
reminds me of that one comic of the astronauts landing on the moon only to find the vikings were there first...
ive read that the frostnner is supperior to silver sword- is it significmnnatly better as im like lvl 40 sword lvl 5 clubs and the sword is also super expennsive
the sword is expensive but im glad i made one
its still useful even after getting blackmetal
I'd rather it would be customisable to fit your own system. Not being able to see a damn campfire that I SHOULD be seeing, because a tiny percentage of players are on ancient enough systems to make it impossible to render, is a wee bit frustrating. And my PC is fricking ten years old. The systems we are adapting to here must be truly ancient!
Very much depends in which situation
it's weird to live in Sweden and know that this is where they are making 1.0 right now
same here actually, i7 4790, amd 6600, building a new pc now though
just for the plains i suppose, how well does it go agianst fulings ect vs frostner
there was a few tweaks i found to help performance
Just about the same really, for plains boss the silver sword wins
ok cool ill make the sword then
i did frostner last time i played so i guess its good to switcxh it up
Frostner is superior in the next biome tho, since enemies there have resistance to physical dmg and frostner does lots of frost dmg which they do not resist
i made an iron hammer, so much fun
Even on this old rust bucket I have never had any sort of performance problems. I'm running on 1440p on high detail and I never have any fps problems, except very recently when I spammed a few more torches than I should have...
and thr black metal weapons arnt better?
I use porcupine in the plains, then back to frostner
its the shaders and particles thats the frame rate killer even on a rtx3070
For mistlands enemies, nope
I mean in terms of dmg ofc. If you prefer certain weapons for their playstyle you will probably have more fun playing with those 🙂
Stronger against anything that does not resist physical damage, but against the usual foes in Mistlands, a bit of elemental damage is very nice. Plus the frost effect will slow enemies which is VERY useful.
(And I don't even like Frostner, but it is hard to argue against its strong points!)
-# Same here
hate the knockback on it
I would remove the spirit damage, and make spirit a new ashlands gem variant
Already enough weapon variants in ashlands tho
Spirit is kind of the point of the whole silver tier though. Werewolf type enemies, silver weapons hurting them etc etc
so from like silver onwards the next tier of weapons isnt alwasy better
yeah but mountain wweapons being endgame?
im glad they are not made irrelvent
Frostner and the silver sword work fine in Ashlands, but I would not call them end game weapons.
i already made a maxed out silver sword
There is always a bit of a borderland between new weapons and upgraded old ones. I advice to stick with your old weapons until you are sure that any new ones are actually better at smiting your enemies
For certain situations, correct. But if you just upgrade your gear to the one the new biome provides you will pregress smoothly even if you dont have the "totally best for this certain situation" type of weapon 🙂
like the big iron hammer does not do a lot of damage but its so fun to deal with an annoying horde of greydwarfs
Which is great for Yagluth.
ill bring it with me then
The best actually ☝️ 🤓
im waiting for all my other friends to "catch up" before progressing any farther so i have not fought yagluth yet
got a new player and they made it to the swamp in two days
Its also a solid weapon in Ashlands. Even does the most damage versus a couple of the mobs.
Hi guys, I know this must come quite often as a question, but any ETA on 1.0?
next year
Nope, we have no info sadly 🙂
given the teasers, im guessing 2nd quarter?
-# While certainly probable and in my opinion very likely, we dont have any confirmation from devs 😄
they said 2026...
Best response ever
Only the devs know and they won't tell.
Even the staff here doesn't know.
So guessing won't help, as no-one knows.
Oh wow, I would have assumed it was really close, like early next year
Its just all guessing, since nothing has been officially said.
For PS release, not for DN. We still dont have confirmed if those two will or will not be at the same time
It might be, just nothing official has been stated.
The only thing we do know is that about two weeks ago it was mentioned that it won't be released this year.
Other than that...... we simply don't know.
I'm hopeless
YESSS finally those two dumb overgrown lizrds hatched a lvl 2 egg, now I can go ahead with my farm!
hope the new serpent is an orca
"Catch lvl 5 of all fish types before Odin takes you to Valhalla" XD
||Ulf will be the final boss||
I caught a lvl 4 Pike with a skill 8 just a couple of days ago. Fishing isn't hard.
Starred warriors, bloody fucking hell thes guys are scary
They don't go down easy, even when both my wife and I are hitting them.
He finally got tired of something trying to mess with his beard.
I still expect the final boss to be that limbless bear from the dreams.
Oh this guy gave me a trophy, time to get the fish
To be perfectly honest, the way the general vicinity of my base has turned into a wasteland since my arrival here is very depressing.
Fellow Porcupine enjoyer.
🤝
Every tree, disintegrated. Every rock, disintegrated, every ruin, disintegrated. All that remains is my raised plateau and lava...
I kept our boat house intact, so I was happy about that. The Drakkar fits perfectly in there.
Everything else was destroyed, Only what I built is there now.
yeah I was pretty bummed to leave it behind
Which brings us back to the question - how the FUDGE did Ashlands survive before we got there...
With difficulty...
Nothing needed to spawn, so that helped. No Morgen mindlessly rolling around...
Ash rain and blobs do more damage than morgen
Morgen destroy entire rocks, meaning the huge ones, and bring down entire buildings. It takes a lot of blobs to do similar.
Deep North...Black Forest....Ashlands...Mistlands. Long ago, the four however many biomes lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when Odin attacked.
It's such underrated weapon. Perfect against all mobs in plains and has better stagger than Frostner.
That entire lore makes Odin look weak. We are beating creatures he was only able to imprison on the Tenth world.
-# And looks very cool also
yeah I love it, parry > secondary > out of the park ⚾
Go watch the conspiracy theory videos 🤣 Odin is absolutely the villain!
He is creepy. At least I have yet to catch him watching us inside of our house.
Also nice option to staggerlock berserkers with the secondary attack.
I always catch him when I'm dicking around doing inconsequential tasks. Like, buddy, chill. I know I said I'd defeat your enemies or whatever but first I'ma build this tailor shop.
"Hey All-Father, yeah you tasked me to slay Forsaken. You didn't elaborate when or how fast. Lemme build in peace now."
I rarely catch him watching me while I am building. Probably because I am so focused on what I am building I never notice him.
knock knock "hey, so uh... were you gonna kill those guys or...." 😆
Plus I build from the inside, so once my walls are up, he could be there 24//7 and I'd never see him.
guys i have a build that i want to show off, where can i show someone?
I would say #screenshots , #building-screenshots or #mods-screenshots 😄
thank you
seriously, when i try ot use # or ## thing, it's not allowed in many major server...
anyway...
WHERE is Valheim monthly news: December?
don't you dare to release voyage of herver bloodtooth part 9 AFTER December....
it's not montly, and we already said no devblog for December
as in
no dev blog for DECEMBER
oh, i think i missed your report or valheim news
my bad
well. I can't post that in the news section since it's not news
true, it's classified as news in steam..
mhm
but for discord, not exactly new..
but we posted it on Facebook, instagram, twitter and bluesky 🤔
Social media brain drain
i don't have social media but youtube, that's all i got
Ah, i definitely missed but it's totally understandable
unsure if we are making one in January. but we'll see 🤔
I ain't back working until the 12th
and it takes about 7 days to make 1 blogpost (writing, editing and translation)
wait, i never realized you're actually dev, i don't really focus on username color
most people don't 😄
ah
<-- community manager, playtester, QA-person
nice to meet you.
👋
Nice
sometimes my dumb ideas is added to the game 🤔
the overhand axe attack was mine
ah
rocky I wasn't apart of
KK
my stuff are usually QoL or.. Fixing stuff
wait, what is QoL again?
Quality of Life
Ah
stuff that makes the game better for the players, or easier
yeah i see, i don't really saw shortend version of quality of life very often.
I've adjusted plenty of stack sizes and weights before to make "more sence"
KK
I was helping with the tar blob monster
F those
oh, really?
so if you complain about being "tared". think like a FPS player and sidestep 👍
those tars is annoying to deal unless if i have my friend on side to help.
smash em with the frostner
and/or sidestep since they only fire all shots in a single line towards you
then well, SINK ENTIRE THING and collect everything on ground.
😄
you know, i noticed that me and my friend have hidden ability: has ability to make any Ashlands landing events went disaster.
but it's good thing that we already have finished long journey for now so i won't be dealing with ashlands in very long time :)
Beat ||Fader and sir what's his face for the sword|| eh?
Nice, now you can build and prep for DN
eh, not important for now.
like we need wait for anicent scale thingy to be no longer placeholder item
is it just me or do the Arbalest upgrades seem pointless other than for durability. Damage scale from fully upgraded Draugr bow to Arbalest is a big gap
Maybe for me too.
also i hate how it require roots to make or upgrade
i dont mind the roots, but the upgrade is kinda bleh
they're goddamn rare nowadays.
had like 10 in my one swamp
what
it's strange for they to be goddamn rare in my main server, but they're basically everywhere in old world, from 2022 to 2024.
yup, my server is fresh from last month. Not sure its seed related
hey
my friends and I disconnected while sailing on open sea. will we be on the boat when we connect back?
i'm sure is it, i think there's mechanic that makes boat stop when people left, i may be mistaken that they're for single player world.
usually no 🤔
you will log back in the exact X, Y, Z co-ordinate you had when you log back in as when you logged out
but the boat keeps sailing lol
if you leave a server and you are the only one in the "area", it freezes and the boat should completly halt
not if there's nobody in area or it's single player world
I was on a public server and didnt notice the network icon blinking, and what happened was the boat was way way back where I initially lost connection, and I was at the spot that it finally booted me to main menu
why tf doesnt arbalest stay loaded when put on back?
i'm not sure but i feel like ir's for safety reason lol
they're fucking powerful when loaded which can seriously hurt someone if it's used wrong... or atleast i know
idk takes like 10 shots for a 1 star bug
that's odin checking up on your progress 🫡
guess you never seen Disney's Robin hood and what happens with that crossbow the crow has 🤔
true... but nobody like to get hit by crossbow "arm" at over 100kg of force.
what crow?
oh i really loved this scene
now we don't want that accident ingame now do we?
YES.
my favorite scenes when i was extremely young.
same
so guess why the player unloads the bolt when you put the crossbow on the back? 😄
Imagine a crossbow bolt just richocheting through a swarm of seekers
how can you unload crossbow, especially long crossbow if they could launch arrow at over 100kg of force?
Take bolt out before releasing tension
oh well i'm wrong, apparently you can unload crossbow but it will go total disaster if you unloaded incorrectly
yup
depends on which type of crossbow you got
yeah, not like you just simply chuck bolt or arrow straight out of crossbow and that is it.
this one is one of my favourites
look like crossbow but autoloaded
close to it
I've always preferred longbow
well, i wanna watch engine before i'm going to sleep.
engine?
oh mb, i meant engine video
this is one i'm currently watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdJipxXrGe8
ohhhh.. we didnt log out, we shut down the server. it should be fine that way then? boat should then be at least be on swimming distance?
who is the mos active server ?
wydm
this server is surprising extremely chill and less active depsite there's over 40k online user.
should be close atleast 🤔
i mean user server, or some name, i dont know
How would you track whose server is most active?
i just now discovered core wood lol
Welcome to being able to build much larger structures.
i feel like the crossbow skill should be reload skill, and not accuracy
What do you mean? It doesn't give more accuracy currently
Crossbows are fully accurate anyways
look at the description of the skill in-game
And log cabins, more useful building foundations, great farming plot grids, harbor entry markers, bronze tools...
do you guys know how hanging braziers get damage on a greydwarf farm?
Guess we're not getting a dev blog for Dec
Nope. Most are on vacation.
It has been documented that we're not getting a dev blog this month
Hello!😁 I am a Korean valheim user
Hmm
Welcome to the server.
Did the increase ore vein spawn rates?
How do I get media upload permission?
There are media channels dedicated for sharing media, such as https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977 and https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202263390056357928 for example.
Remember reading channel descriptions for proper use, all media should be Valheim related.

I don't think that's too rare because I have 3 in close proximity and about 5 on my starting island
I've had a starting area that had 3 even closer to each other then that lol Sometimes its great ... other times I wasn't a fan lol .. just depends the playthrough hehe
I have one very close to my base. Close enough to where we have cleared all the trees around it for wood
I asked this over in #steam-bugs-discussion, but someone here might also know: Does Artisan Table Spawn Prevention currently match its build radius?
spawn prevention is 40m whats the build radius of it again?
Also 40m, thank you!
I saw a post from a year ago that they were inconsistent but wasn't sure if it was patched or not, thank you for that!
I use them more for the 40m spawn proofing instead of the build radius for some bases haha, as you only need the ovens for one bakery and then a few windmills somewhere
Yeah, I'm absolutely planning on doing the same :D
Sitting doesn't really do any effect right?
Not really, but it alows you to rest near fire even without shelter effect 🙂
Oh ok
I had hoped there w ould be another word of the DEVs in December but I guess them people over at Irongate deserve a christmas break as well... hopefully we get more news in January 😄
Welp, they did say there will not be one in December on 22nd 😄
And in the same post they also did mention that they "will see us again properly in January."
I did not see that post... that totally slipped through the cracks... thank you for telling me
Smiffe pinned it in general too i believe, but it was somewhat easy to miss it for sure 😄
"Lemme read pinned messages first before initiating to chat."
Said no one ever.
Yeah, but at least it makes it easier for us to point to it xD
-# How many of the hecking pins do you have?!
-# That wasn't all.
Thank you for reminding me why I hardly ever come here anymore... this here is getting more toxic by the moment. I did read the pinned comments here but there is no news about what I was wondering about. thanks for nothing
question, is now a good time to start a brand new valheim playthrough? i heared the snow update is coming out soon, will that require a new save? is there gonna be an overhaul to the current content i'll miss? When do I start my playthrough
As good time as any to start a new playthrough really 🙂
We have no info about when the Deep North will release sadly.
No it will in all likelyhood not require a new save, just dont explore the current placeholder in the very top of the map.
Probably some changes to current content, but we dont have any idea what or to which extend.
Whenever you feel like starting again
is the update not coming soon ish?
do we know if steam achievements will ever come?
have the devs ever spoke about it
I didn't mean it as offence against you, I initiated in conversation with little joking spirit. Seems it didn't land well for all, so I apologize.
its all speculation
Yep, with 1.0/Deep North release
confirmed
Second half next year my guess
Yep
#general message
sexy
Im exploring a mistlands I swear there is three ribcages, no brains. No infested mines in this huge area either lol I keep looking
Finally found a cave nvm ha
nvm again just a dvergr camp damn
Mistlands exploration in a nutshell. As a rule, if there's a largish group of seekers around a ruin, that will have mine entrance. There are ruined towers without, but they won't have as many seekers around them.
I have an amazing mist free valley I am building in. Several roots, tons of armor and swords. No bones, no structures, no mines. But it’s pretty and has a nice lake for my future build
Just got the demolisher, what a beastly weapon my goodness
