FWIW i explored a bit of Ashlands pre-update to get the fish for the fishing hat and it didn't really hurt anything. As long as you stick near the edge and leave the main landmass alone it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

crossbow consumes less stam and you can reload while jumping which is why i prefer it in Mistlands. The perfect accuracy for long-range snipe shots doesn't hurt either.

Reloading a crossbow costs 4 stamina, so yes, even with 100 skill and lower tier bows.
Also bows consume stamina per second while drawn - crossbows has no stamina consumption (and even stamina regeneration) while aiming which is really the big one for me.

Spinesnap has 40% higher stamina cost but adds more than 40% pierce damage over draugr fang. Also spirit is far more valuable as a secondary damage type in Ashlands than poison.
As for higher tier weapons having higher stam cost it's so your damage per stamina invested remains roughly the same - you get higher sta from better food and lower cost from skill, the weapon upgrade alone "just" gives you more burst damage.

Unless you're building in the mountains or mistlands making a cart path to the nearest shore usually isn't that much trouble. From plains on you can also ride lox to transport your metal since they're not affected by your encumbrance.
On the other hand there isn't much reason to not build on the shore unless you find a really exceptional base spot inland.

I never realized how good bile bombs are, but now I know they're OP. For example, I'm too low armor to block berserkers and lox, too skill issue to pull 40+ dodge rolls in a row, and too slow to use arrows, so bile bombs, which can be thrown very quickly, don't slow you down, do splash damage, and do considerable DOT are awsome, especially on higher difficulty

My first approach to magic was to just craft a fireball staff, ate single etir food and continue playing normally with sword and armor, but cast from time to time a fireball or two

And it worked like a charm in mistlands, you don't need to go "all in"

This, 100% this and I believe this is the best way to get started with it, you can also cast protection bubble with just 1 eitr food, I love using 1 Health 1 Stamina 1 Eitr food and just 2 staves and use the rest melee weapons, you're basically a badass Viking protected by a bubble but still in heavy armour and shooting the occasional fireball or (there is something even better for a second staff in Ashlands , spoiler) and be a full hybrid, works very well with either Mistwalker and Shield or even better again with Ashlands weapons

The issue is that armor and hp are useless when you have the bubble up, so you may as well eat a second stam or eitr food and wear fenris or eitr weave instead of taking the movement penalty of heavy armor for no benefit.

works for me, it helps massively survive for when the bubble breaks before you can recast it, other people might prefer other ways of doing it, but that works well for me, also works well with feasts, also why 2 eitr foods if you are using melee weapons a lot? doesn't make sense at all

well yeah i need to kill yag eventually. But then i went from skipping ahead a little for better food to seeing how far i could take it.
Cleared out about 20-25 dvergr towers (going by the number of extractors i have) for extractors and ~350 eitr, all gotten from mist-free dvergr towers and two lucky excavation sites with intact skulls. It took me a whole lot of sailing though.

Honestly i was having a decent time with just an iron atgeir. Level 4 heavy attack can stun seekers, full combo kills after that. Its also strong enough to parry soldiers

Being able to heavy through walls in mines is super nice. Get the unaware bonus + stun, easy kills on any seekers that would be camping you

Hey guys! I just started the game a few days ago. Barely into Black Forest. Trying to get some wolves tamed to farm for resources. Have I only scratched the surface of the game so far? Most I’ve done is clear a couple burial chambers and kill a bunch of trolls in Black Forest lol

technically no, as long as you don't sail north, the new content should generate on old maps when the update happens just as if it were a fresh new world (i.e. the terrain isn't generated on map until you get a certain amount close and when that happens it uses whatever the current update/version you're playing, not whatever was the case when you started the map--basically Minecraft world rules)

ehhhh it depends but often IMO the answer is 'no"

if you find you're spending a lot of time in a biome and/or (more later playthroughs, when you already know 'what's coming') you know you may have the same set for a biome or two, it can make sense, really help survivability

In general you wanna upgrade armor if you find your current one is getting you killed or you are taking too many hits

I usually upgrade armor every second biome unless the resources are plentiful

This run I went troll lvl 4-> iron lvl 1-> wolf lvl2-4 + root -> plains lvl 4 + root -> fenris

yeah since troll is the 'light' version, upgrading it probably gives you more bang for the buck too, since you don't have as many armor points from the base version to begin with

Bronze armor is more than suitable for taking on bonemass and then mountains it’s fairly easy to get silver armor as long as you stay weary of wolfs and golems, drakes are no issue
