Hey everyone. I'm new here. I'm trying to write a guide for the Adafruit QT Py CH32V203 Dev Board with STEMMA QT . I find documents from Adafruit giving tips on how to write a good guide ... but I simply cannot find the button on the Adafruit website to get started writing the guide 😅
The closest thing I can find is the Create New Note button in the Playground:
But I cannot find a Create New Guide button anywhere ...
you have to have the permissions to create guides, I think
I would ask in an e-mail to support@adafruit.com
Okay
Please don't cross post in multiple channels.
Also, "This channel is for questions regarding the CoC, moderation or server policies", so not the right place either way.
My apologies.
so I'm pretty new to discord over all, and I just realized one can set their pronouns in the server profile via their display name so they're really visible. Somehow though, mine got refused, because they are flagged by the community? 😮
Hi, sorry for the issue. I see the problem, but it will take an admin to fix it. Hopefully one will be on soonish. Thanks for being patient
no worries. I'm very patient 🙂
Try again! I've adjusted the automod.
alright, will try
Display name contains community flagged words
kk, lemme look again
Looks like I changed the wrong place. Try again
thanks for your patience
no problem at all 🙂
third charm's the time hopefully 😄
yay
at first I wasn't sure if it was intended or not, that it got blocked
ahh so that was it, not thepronouns itself
no, just dumb automod
indeed 😉 glad it's sorted though
@clear herald I opened a private thread about this, and adjusted the allow-list, but I guess you did something else.
ok, I see what you did, that was going to be the next thing I was going to try
Oh, my maker space recently was gutted by fire. No organic people were harmed, and all the 'official' stuff is ongoing. So no worries for now but I did want to report that Something Bad happened. Also if Adafruit could appropriately signal boost.
that's bad. good to know that everyone is okay.
I have some questions to ask in the #help-with-hw-design channel but I think the conversation will clog it up and might end up preventing other people from having their questions looked at. Would it be a good or bad idea to thread my questions?
This is just my opinion, but I would recommend starting the conversation normally. If you start it as a thread, some people aren't looking for threads and might miss it. If the conversation really takes off and you have a few people helping, then thread it.
true, but I'm probably going to front-load the conversation with several questions at once.
Just ask, and see where it goes.
<@&327289013561982976> i think something very weird happened on #help-with-projects and someone with a similar name to mine... 😕
cleaned up and we are inquiring. They've been around for a while, maybe someone else got ahold of their account
tres weird 😀
hello, where should go ask a question about Feather NRF52840 bootloader?
#help-with-circuitpython or #help-with-arduino , depending on what you are using
#help-with-projects message I was attempting to post a link to a common brand of laptop dock, but it kept on getting blocked by the AutoMod, claiming that I was using a blocked word. I'm curious on why it's like that.
it matched a wildcard with www followed by anker, with punctuation in between. I'll try to fix some part of that.
I added an exception. Try posting one of those URL's here, and we'll see if it triggers.
@outer apex ^^
@outer apex ok, I did it a different way - looks like it's OK now. See above. I was testing with an unprivileged account.
I agree with this
<@&327289013561982976> I think there's a spammer in #general-chat
Thanks. It's taken care of.
Many have you have been so kind in helping my students. Anyone in Boston who wants to stop by and see their work, this Friday is the Student Tech Showcase where students have projects and iOS apps ( from my other class) set up science fair style for you to browse and check out. Stop by the new 245 Beacon St Chestnut Hill Bldg room 301 and get a look at our maker spaces, too. All welcome. There should be pizza and more projects around the 3pm mark. Cheers!
I couldn't make it to this because I was going skiing, but please continue to post any other local Boston things. Feel free to DM me here on Discord as well!
is there one personne succed to interface the Bluiefruit LE SPI with an STM32 ?
Not me, Bluetooth is a mess. Also, it's rude to crosspost.
i succed easily for the UART but the SPI i cannot send the AT command to select the mode
answering in #help-with-projects
where would I go with help qith an led screen?
it was working fine but suddenly the whole thing went dark--I haven't unplugged anything and the code is still running. Even after a reset I see nothing
ive never really messed around with this kind of stuff so help would be extremely appreciated
Try posting in #help-with-projects — provide more detail — what display? what code? Arduino or CircuitPython? As much information as you can about what happened. If the display is an Adafruit product, you may also want to ask in the support forums https://forums.adafruit.com/viewforum.php?f=47
can the pi 500 ram be upgraded (8GB to 16GB) with something like changing, adding, or removing a resister on the pcb?
🤷♂️
can the pi 500 control neo pixels directly threw a gpio pin say pin 13?
This channel is for questions regarding the code of conduct, moderation or server policies. You should ask in #help-with-linux-sbcs
people who know the answers are much more likely to be over there than here
Question: Where is the best place to ask a question about the Metro M7 AirLift ESP32 firmware upgrade? I ran into a problem I cannot solve on my own.
you can never go wrong with #general-tech
I’m stuck in an authentication loop on adafruit fourms. I try to visit the forms and I’m verifying human indeed and it’s asking me to check the box that I’m human over and over again after just loading a spinning circle. I’m using a brave browser on mobile. Is anyone else getting this or just me? I gave it an hour or so and exited my browser but still unable to prove human. I’m willing to accept it’s something on my end… just thought I’d ask.
Try a different browser, and try clearing all the cookies for the site
iOS or android?
iOS
Tried on “private” tab still happening. Different browser seems to work though. Must be something on brave browser or on my side. Thanks!
Is there somewhere to submit a typo on a guide? The Metro RP2350 guide has one. (I got mine from the sale last week and going through it now. lol)
nm, I found where to put it.
Fixed, thank you.
This is the wrong channel, this channel is for help managing the Discord server. I'd recommend asking in #help-with-arduino or #help-with-projects
Thank you! Looks like Dan is responding
Is it against the conduct for posting something like this? https://osuosl.org/blog/osl-future/ as it sounds like I'm advertising something
I'm a fan of the OSL so it's fine. Just only put it in one place
#show-and-tell has gotten a bit spicy today, not sure if it's crossed CoC lines but figured worth a soft ping so someone can glance in case it needs some cooling off.
Thanks! Looks like it worked out. I just added my suggestion there
hi all! not sure if this is the right channel but i recently started soldering and it was good but lately the solder is no longer sticking to the tip and just balling up basically. I was hoping to understand what tools I could use to clean the tip because initially the solder did stick to the iron
Sorry if this is a too new question, but I don’t want to just keep buying new tips if I don’t have to
flux... and re-tin.
leaving your iron on when not using (for hours) will causes it to oxidize...
getting contaminates (glue, plastic, carbon from wood ) on the tip can also cause problems.
I tried to tin it but the solder just won’t stick to the tip at all and keeps forming into a ball and not detaching from the solder. Do you have any good flux recommendations? Thank you!
make sure to have good venting. Sal ammoniac is the most agressive tip tinning. the chip quick https://www.adafruit.com/product/2667 chip quick is what i mostly use.
wipe and tin after flux
@slim quartz this channel is for meta-discussions about the server and community. #general-tech or #help-with-projects would get you more answers to soldering questions
@silver coral, is there any specific reason why you sent me a DM and friend request instead of asking in the #help-with-projects channel?
When I set up my 2-factor authentication to log into Adafruit, I forget which authenticator app I used. I've looked in my Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator and I don't see an Adafruit account. Is there any way I can reset my 2-factor without creating an entirely new Adafruit account?
Contact support@adafruit.com
<@&327289013561982976> I feel like we've gotten some spammers the last couple days with near-identical copy-pasta 'open for work' ads in #general-tech
banned
it's annoying that when someone spams everywhere, all the rooms are still lit up as if with new messages even after they are banned... Discord could handle that better
Ah that’s what’s going on? Thought my discord app was buggin
I banned a spammer, yes
I have a question about user interfaces for electronic projects, but I don't see which channel I should ask in
#help-with-projects perhaps?
I'll try there
I have an Adafruit website question. Is there a good place for those? Specifically, I want to add a link in my project documentation to bring up a list of current Feather compatible controller boards and another to FeatherWing boards. https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=feather+board brings up controllers and FeatherWing boards. https://www.adafruit.com/category/946 brings up a search of the Feather / Boards category, which is better but '946' doesn't seem like something I should just assume will always map to that category in the future ... ???
Major bonus points if there's some way to filter the controller list to only include Feather's with active CircuitPython support which meet or exceed minimum RAM/flash requirements (probably 2MB/4MB) but since the web UI doesn't even support that yet, I'm not holding my breath... Although in practice, https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=feather+MB+%2BPSram appears to get close
the category numbers are not going to change willy nilly, because there are plenty of other links that depend on them. Products may get moved around between categories, there may be new categories, etc.
For the controller boards (not the wings) that work with CircuitPython you can use the CircuitPython.org site and filter for "Adafruit" and "Feather-Compatible". https://circuitpython.org/downloads?manufacturers=Adafruit&features=Feather-Compatible but you can not search or filter by RAM nor Flash size unless it is stated in the title of the board.
Thanks - that helps! This is more an "icing" than "cake" issue, as the search results are just an informational convivence, but I like getting details right. I case you're curious, the page I'm using the search links on is at https://www.lumensalis.com/Projects/LCPF/LCPFDocs/Hardware/ShieldStandards/Feather/ The cake list will be the actual supported controllers, each of which must be explicitly added to the framework and tested. I've got some questions / requests for recommendations on that but they'll show up in the "help-with-circuitpython" channel.
#general-chat message #general-tech message #help-with-3dprinting message #help-with-arduino message all sound like a scam.
Edit: nevermind, they've been deleted.
I was advised with some things it's best to just grab the entire product info list via API once per day, then process for your needs. https://www.adafruit.com/products_api
SWEET - thanks for that. Not sure it helps much for this specific use case, as it's for a static rendered HTML page, but that's a great bit of info to save for later.
(since the source for that page is currently in mdx, it actually shouldn't be too hard to run that query to keep the link up to date, but the content is pre-rendered and then served statically so it would only "update" when I rebuild and update the entier site - not dynamically when users access the page)
Is there a good channel (Discord or otherwise) for offering (hopefully) constructive feedback / suggestion regarding the Adafruit website in general?
I think there are "feeback" links on the website itself
<@&327289013561982976> big spamerooni ⏫
Thanks, taking care of it now
thanks 👍
Anyone from the Blog here? The model featured this article was actually stolen. It would be nice to update it and feature the original instead.
Blog: https://blog.adafruit.com/2025/09/18/halloween-horror-chess-set-3dthursday-3dprinting/
Original: https://www.printables.com/model/1395924-halloween-chess-set
I changed the link (the old link was also dead). Should I leave the attribution to "3D.GOAT" or was that person the thief?
Nice! 3D.GOAT was the thief. The whole account got nuked. All his 17 uploads were stolen models.
I've changed the attribution too -- thanks for this!
Probably not as important as the previous changes, but the thumbnail still has a @3DGOAT watermark within it.
thanks, I will swap out the picture
Umm…
What happens when the first "rule" listed on https://learn.adafruit.com/how-to-send-a-blogtip-to-adafruit/what-we-do-not-feature-on-the-adafruit-blog becomes retroactively violated?
Such as #crowd-supply message.
@crude vale can answer that
I think Adafruit accidentally double-pasted a URL into one of the hyperlinks within #adafruit-blog-feed message. The link returns a 404 error.
Fixed, thanks!
It might just be my browser's cache not letting it update properly, but it doesn't seem to be fixed on my end.
ok, try again, I made an edit but I think I did not save the apge.
I am looking to use the 16x2 rgb lcd display on my pi4 via USB but I am having issues finding Adafruit USB + Serial LCD Backpack Add-On with Cable.
Is it discontinued and is there an item i can use as a direct replacement?
I'd recommend asking in #help-with-linux-sbcs - this channel is for suport about the server. That way the right folks will see it
I would ask in #help-with-circuitpython - this channel is used solely for support about the server itself. You'll have the right eyes (and more of them) in that channel.
@clever musk ok thanks
thanks. deleted.
Thanks - deleted.
Where would I ask about help with JTAG firmware extraction on an ARM Cortex™ M4F?
#help-with-projects though I don't know if you'll get an answer
how to activate the Adafruit IO+ using the github student pack?
Please ask in #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio
Hello i need some help with Adafruit Tinyusb and Dualshock 3 usb device implementation, is this the right place to ask for help ?
no, try #help-with-projects
hey what channel do i ask help about Feather RP2040. wont connecting
Are you trying to use arduino or circuitpython or another language? We have a #help-with-circuitpython and #help-with-arduino or #help-with-projects if it's a bit more of a general project or parts question. Please pick one channel though for your question (there's no hard and fast rule, but I think only repeat question in another channel after at least a day, or if told you'd be better of in X channel)
it gotta need to run rp2040-logitech.uf2
its this board
https://www.adafruit.com/product/5723
i think its project parts question
hey i cant post?
@pliant slate read the pinned messages in this channel, this isn't the right place for technical questions
Let's go to #help-with-projects message
Hey guys- not sure where to ask this. I ordered an adafruit DC adapter through Mouser, and in both the mouser and adafruit bags it came in it has the right part # but it’s not the right size at all and looks slightly different from the web photos. Who do I contact for this?
open a thread on https://forums.adafruit.com, and include pictures. that is the official support channel
what do you mean by "not the right size"?
#general-chat or #general-tech would be a better channel. This is for discussions about the community (e.g. about the adafruit discord server)
Got it, thank you
The ID on the female side is larger than it should be. I haven’t measured it but it’s the exact one listed on the store page for the solar panel I got and it won’t fit
definitely take a picture and if you can measure with calipers or similar that would be great. The mfr may have substituted something without our knowing
Just posted here. Also added a follow up q to general-tech
I replied to your thread after finding a number of other similar threads in the forum
@mental garnet following up on your message above in this channel
we have "Verification Level:" set to high, and we have "Server Rules" turned on, which requires a manual interaction. We think a lot of the spammers either add themselves manually or are older compromised accounts or old spam accounts held in reserve. But we don't have many spammers: one or two a week at most.
Years ago, we enabled "Community Discovery" for a while, and caused a huge uptick, so we turned it off right away.
We have a lot of stop-word and similar stuff set up. Mostly now it's image-only spam.
Welcome to the Help With Community channel!
This channel is for addressing questions or concerns with our moderation & administration teams.
This can include reporting issues with behavior on the server, questions on what is permissible, etc.
We will be using Discord Threads for private discussions, as DMs (Direct Messages) have inherent limits and delays.
However, private threads are disabled for the community. If you have something you wish to discuss in private, please let us know here or in DMs, and we'll create a private thread for that discussion.
Okay, but the real question is can we use the popcorn button on the discord microwave. Lots of places say no.. I’m really hoping for a yes here
With approved popcorn packets only.
And if you subscribe to Popcorn+.
Greetings! I'm new to Discord so I probably missed it, but - how do I get a slot on the Youtube Show and Tell? YT comments say there is a link but I don't see it... Thanks, John
A link gets posted just before the show each week
Thanks, I'll look out for it.
Hello moderators! I want to share something, but don't want to run afoul of community rules, so I wanted to check here first. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8DQGmkgr_W50GETXzCxY7prRef-_Zdo8 is a friday channel where I tear stuff apart. It's still very much in its infancy, but for PCB designers who want to eat lunch with something on in the background, might be useful.
Also -- would it be appropriate to share http://teachmepcb.com with the adafruit community? A new course is about to start in october -- you can view the old course at https://teachmepcb.com/enrol/index.php?id=4 using guest code "RCS"
This website is designed to help Electrical Engineers learn how to make their designs into reality.
We made the designs for participants who completed the course and gave away all sorts of gear -- Keysight oscilloscopes, Altium licenses, etc... All for free. The only allowed advertising was sponsor logos on the side of the page, no other shilling.
For the youtube, is it family friendly, in terms of topics discussed & language?
@fringe kindle Totally -- no swearing, no foul language -- just taking stuff apart and evaluating ways they could have done a better job with layout or made decisions that make the board cheaper to make.
I see no issue with sharing the youtube -- please be kind to pick a single channel (no cross-posting -- #general-tech is usually a good spot), and don't post it excessively.
Likewise for the course, though that might be better suited under #events.
Alright -- thanks so much. I'll post once and call it a day. @fringe kindle
And thank you for sharing awesome stuff 🙂
🙂
I am a huge fan of Adafruit, but DigiKey ships MUCH faster and lower shipping prices. I use the guides and examples for my stuff, and believe in supporting the business. Is buying on DigiKey still considered "supporting" Lady Ada and staff?
We partner with Digi-Key for a number of things, so supporting them is still supporting us. If you're purchasing Adafruit products through Digi-Key, they're still Adafruit products, they still come from Adafruit, albeit indirectly through Digi-Key. Short answer: yes. 🙂
Good good. Thanks @hushed schooner
You're welcome.
There's a video of Lady Ada and the CEO of DigiKey in what's almost a love-fest, they clearly both admired each other a great deal. No idea where that video is, but the two businesses certainly seem in sync in terms of business model, ethics, etc.
Adafruit has been super fast for me, unlike MonoPrice, who has yet to ship my order from the 28th DX
@worn thicket Do you mind if I DM you? Nothing bad! I simply prefer to ask before messaging someone for the first time.
No problem!
So I'd asked a question on Ask an Engineer, and PT @'d me and said he'd look into it. Can I ping about that, or should I just ask if he found what I asked about during the show next week?
You can ask tonight probably?
Oh yeah, random hacker times
Really fast - 2-4 days for me - with USPS first class
UPS is super bad for me
Like 1-2 weeks
Weird
Yeah
I don't think my Monoprice order has shipped still...
Lol,no, nozzles and a bed for one, and some cables
Yeah XD
Would discussion of the EU's proposal regarding charger standards be acceptable, or is that too close to politics?
It's electronics related?
As long as there's enough of an effort to steer it away from the focus of politicians as opposed to the topic of interest. Political discourse isn't something that can necessarily be totally avoided, but we can avoid focusing on the political elements if everyone's in agreement.
Not that politics in itself is necessarily against the code of conduct, from what I can see anyways...
Yeah, I just wanted to discuss the potential implications of the proposal. I don't have any idea who the politicians are, so I couldn't comment if I wanted to
I don't see politics mentioned in the CoC, but I know it's something to avoid
I think a discussion/understanding of the impact of this on maker projects and our small rechargeable devices we make vs non-rechargeable ones would be good. Does this mean: if it can recharge a battery, you better have a USB-C on there or does this only apply to consumer devices...
Yeah, things like that. Let's move to #general-tech then so we don't fill this place up
As long as the conversation stays within the scope of the proposal, it's fine. Sounds like that's all you had in mine to begin with.
Yup! Thanks for verifying ^_^ was purely focused on the tech angle
Thank you for asking. I appreciate your consideration. It has also highlighted that we should probably add something to the CoC about avoiding politics. You folks were spot on in doing so, but some folks need to see it in writing.
I would appreciate that -- I know naming politicians is blocked (I tried to mention Louis Rossman's cat, who shares a name with a former president) but a clear guideline in there would be great
I did a GIF of a former president and it got deleted....
Which I can understand
And I didn't even realize it was a former president in the GIF until after I posted it
Yeah I saw that thread I'd nearly posted that one a couple times, but decided not to simply because of who it was
Hehe.... I slipped up
JK - Adafruit's server's really good about that
🙂
Lol
#classroom is a more appropriate place for this posting. Could you post there instead and delete this one? This channel is for community issues like moderation.
sure
Is anyone else having issues accessing the learn guides right now? https://learn.adafruit.com/
the main site works, it's just the learn guide links are redirecting me to a "503" error
This was a known problem yesterday, thanks for reporting.
Anyone using Adafruit AHRS NXP library?
Please do not cross-post your queries in multiple channels. Choose an appropriate channel and wait for a reply.
<@&327289013561982976> This link looks suspicious, I'm pretty sure it should be "discord.gift" not "discordc.gift"
Thanks for the heads up!
Yup, Google says phishing
How do you become a CircuitPythonista??
you ask, and someone will add you
just a heads up for this guide (https://learn.adafruit.com/running-programs-automatically-on-your-tiny-computer?view=all#systemd-writing-and-enabling-a-service) in single page mode, the link for systemd: Writing and Enabling a Service links to the wrong part of the doc
ctrl+f fixes that but thought I'd mention it
@haughty path there's a "Feedback? Corrections?" link at the bottom of the left nav... that's the best way to report guide issues
Aha, ok
@real basin I added you. let me know if you don't want it
You're great - thank you
It seems to link to the right place, but then the page jumps to the wrong place, perhaps due to the animated screenshots. I'll tell the Learn devs about this.
Thx!
For future reference the #learn-adafruit-authors channel is where folks typically report guide issues. This was perfectly fine too, but that would also work. Thanks!
Perfect thanks!
Is it possible to add WiFi to a Raspberry Pi Zero using the Feather Huzzah with ESP8266 via USB?
I was kinda curious because I’ve both of them and I wanted to add internet to my Pi Zero without sharing internet from my laptop using USB/RNDIS
(And I don’t have an USB to Ethernet adapter for now)
better ask that at #help-with-linux-sbcs
@tardy creek You around? And feel like testing something for me right quick?
yeah, what's up?
Alright. Please ping (@)community moderators with the following message "nitro (testing for Kattni)" . We're trying to test whether we get notifications if someone tags us with a banned word, and also make sure that ended up banned.
seems to have worked
Thanks!
is there a way to check if that word is used in conjunction with a link? as it is a legitimate feature of discord?
No, it's Dyno.
ah okay
We're looking into adding a more bot-stopping-specific bot soon.
that's unfortunate that you can't add context to Dyno
Dyno is not granular. 😄
Yeah, unfortunately, it's hard to pin down with the tools we have now, so we have to go with a little more brute force.
yeah, unfortunately
if it helps just stop it outright, even for now i think it will save a lot of frustration with spammers
We're hoping this catches more of things.
But we want something better. So we're looking into it. These tools exist, we simply need to research it etc.
Anyway, thanks again skerr. Appreciate the assist.
anytime 🙂
This is a temporary solution to a very specific problem, but in the future we'll need better tools as the spammers inevitably move to something new. Thanks skerr!
Anything in it. I banned it as a wildcard after googling the word to see if it was part of anything else legitimate. Did not appear to be.
I see you have proven me wrong. 😄
I can switch it to "exact word".
Hmm I suppose not 🙂
Or in depth anyway
We can change it at that point I suppose.
I could discuss the element...
I just ran afoul of the bot, oops.
I can post a modified version of what I said if that helps debugging
I think it was related to the word that is discussed above.
I have a bug to report about all learn guides. I don't know if it's something you can fix or or issue with my mobile.. should I email support@adafruit.com?
The first rule of N i t r o g e n Club is you don't talk about N i t r o g e n Club
-ous?
is that not a noble gas?
Maybe the element should be excluded? Idk I could see it coming up in #general-chat
No. While I have many noble gas tubes, that one is the non-noble gas that is the major constituent of Earth's atmosphere.
ah, cool
How much were your tubes? I love those things
I got them fairly cheap a very long time ago.
I wonder if I could rig up a thing where the tubes are lightsabers?
Have like Luke and Vader figurines holding them?
This one would make a good lightsaber. It's a little exotic, and combines three different kinds of danger. The glass is doped with uranium oxide, which fluoresces green when the argon-mercury vapor discharge inside it emits UV.
Ooooh
I was considering it would be cool to build for work but IP would be an issue
Intellectual property? I don't think uranium is copyrighted.
Star wars is, Disney don't play
Oh right. I did get to sic their legal team on some scammers a while back.
Nice
Steps to reproduce on a galaxy s21:
Use the Google app to search for an adafruit guide. Open the guide and press the "copy link" button.
Result:
The link does not copy onto the clipboard.
Workaround:
Open the guide link in Chrome, where the copy button functions normally
yet there are hundreds of people making their own lightsabers
there are also many selling lightsabers - just check amazon. I wonder if they all have actually licensed it with Disney...
Probs not but I don't want to mess with anyone who can bill 500 dollars an hour
understandable. I once had to deal with an IP lawyer, woudln't want to repeat the experience
It’s actually pretty cheap to license Disney namesakes
My wife has a friend who pays like a 15% royalty on Disney related stuff
Hey folks. I updated the bot to look for an exact match to nitro instead of it being a wildcard. I understand this conversation was about having a conversation and not actually a conversation about nitrous/nitrogen, but you made a valid point. Thanks for the discussion!
Thanks. It's all good. Moderation is challenging, whether manual or automated.
I'll be honest, it's a lot less challenging when the community helps with things like this, too
I need this plz and thanks
Element discussion or gas discharge tubes?
The tube pictured XD
How many times do I have to complete the CoC? I can't type more than a few characters before it asks me to do it again. Is there a step I'm missing?
"You must complete a few more steps before you can talk" I click the complete button, carefully read each point, then click the check box and submit. I have now dont this 20+ times. To type this I copy and paste from notepad, and even that requires me to complete the above steps twice.
Huh, that is strange.. desktop or mobile?
desktop
Okay, have you tried completely quitting out of discord?
That is very strange. Hopefully one of the community moderators will be able to assist it getting your issue sorted out
I left and rejoined the server. After waiting my 10 minutes it seems to be working normally now. 🤷♂️
I'll chalk it up to a one off glitch and not a personal slight against a construction worker who has no business trying to learn to code and solder at 40.
Well, either way welcome! 🙂
Thanks!
I'm sorry you ran into that! I wouldn't have had a suggestion for you, as I've never heard of that happening. I'm really glad you figured it out and stuck with us. Welcome to the Adafruit Discord!
Sorry to hear about that! You might not be the only one who's experienced that. Do you use the desktop application, or do you use a browser? And if you use the browser, which one do you use and do you have anything like an adblock installed? (This'll help make it easier to troubleshoot if someone else runs into the same or a similar issue). And did just leaving and coming back solve the problem entirely? I'm glad you got it figured out! Welcome aboard!
Discord desktop app. And yes, simply leaving and rejoining the server fixed it. @astral flame
listen man it's never too late to learn to code and solder
40 is the new 20 right...right? LOL. It started with getting into astronomy, then I had an idea for an over complicated telescope control system... So now I have a 3d printer and a table covered in RaspberryPis, Arduinos, Feathers and PiHats and I have tackle boxes full of sensors, leds and headers, and I'm learning Python. I'm sure I'll need all the help I can get so I appreciate what this community has to offer. 🤓
That's pretty much amazing. Good luck with all of it. I hope we can help you on your journey 🙂
You know you have too much electronics when you are an early adopter of arduinos in your city and you forget it in a park and you have to get it back from the bomb squad at the city PD 🤣
heck yeah, man!
I have had the (paraphrased) "you must complete the code of conduct task" thing pop up on discord mobile (android) but it is barely up long enough for me to read the text and then it disappears. I should report that to discord I guess.
Is it ok to link to an URL almost whenever I ask a complicated question so peoples can see what hardware//boards I have access to, my current wiring, project goals etc so I don't have to repeat it everytime ?
URL to what specifically? You can definitely post URLs to appropriate content. What you're describing sounds entirely appropriate.
to a page that details the project on my website I guess
I mean a specific page not a general advertisement of my site/domain
ie: foobar.com/projects/electronics/fs2019joystick/ for instance
Is the political discussion I've been taking part in #general-chat not something we want in this server?
it is not.
Okay. Should I delete it then?
That would be my preference -- I was thinking about stepping in and asking that it stop.
Okay.
I'd appreciate having a better understanding of where the lines are - is it that the discussion wasn't friendly?
I did not notice it being particularly "unfriendly" -- there were a few times I was concerned it would turn that way. The potential was there. That is, I think, the best guide. Topics that tend to generate unfriendly responses should be avoided here.
Okay. Thank you for explaining.
@dense gyro I may have misunderstood - was the discussion in #general-chat or in a thread that you have since removed?
It was in #general-chat; I've deleted my messages in it
OK -- thanks.
I just wanted to make sure I was commenting on the correct discussion.
@dense gyro I have deleted my messages as well.
Also went through and deleted my messages
Thanks
Thank you to everyone involved here - I appreciate that you took the time to ask whether the conversation was appropriate, and then took it upon yourselves to remove it.
Sad that the covid19 engineering was closed. We need more projects in this topic cause the new mutations are coming and we need more development in this area.
Please feel free to discuss projects in #help-with-projects. I agree we may have been premature in archiving that channel. We were perhaps too hopeful about the outcome of the situation, and believed there wasn't really a reason to keep the channel available. I don't intend to unarchive it, but you may absolutely discuss related projects in the help-with channel.
is my approach for helping peoples in #help-with-projects correct even though I can be annoying about safety and board safety?
Hiii 🙂 someone online? I need help, I got Adafruit MONSTER M4SK - DIY Electronic Eyes Mask and they don't turn me on, any solution? please
I don't see any issues with your approach, though I'm not sure what you're specifically referring to. It's ok to put safety first.
Hello. Please only post your question in one channel and give folks a chance to respond. We ask that you not post your question in multiple channels. Most people are are volunteers, so they help when they have time. So, please ask once and be patient. 🙂
Is it appropriate to discuss pentesting/white hat hacking in this server??
<@&327289013561982976>
Quick answer is "yes, but that depends"
It may not surprise you that we don't condone illegal things, so. I would say be cautious with any resources or whatever you share
just Wifite and Kali Linux
But general discussion? Just keep your mind on it and you should be fine
No problem, thanks for checking with us
Hey, is there any way you can turn the #live-broadcast-announce into an announcements channel as well, so I can subscribe to it and have it on my own Discord server? Hopefully that made sense.
That's a great idea!! I'd love that too
Um.... Sure. I'll look into it.
how do I get a me-and-moderators-only thread to mention a (small) issue? (or is that not what I should be doing)
Just like this! You ask and one of us makes a thread.
Hello guys I am final year student. Kindly suggest me what to do with the following statement.
Design and develop embedded application that uses atleast three services of OS/RTOS
That's a wide question. Also this isn't really the right channel, I'd try #help-with-projects to start. You could do something with a pi, or an embedded c++ system or any number of ways.
I'd ask your professor(s) for some guidance too
Um can anyone explain how exactly does adafruit unified sensor driver works ?
This channel is for community-related issues like moderation needs and Code of Conduct issues.
Please ask in the #help-with-arduino channel for your specific question. I think that would be the best place for it.
Good call, Jerry!
Oof didn't know that
Will do
except it was meant for the next post ...
have you seen this guide https://learn.adafruit.com/using-the-adafruit-unified-sensor-driver -- it would be best to follow up in #adafruit-blog-feed help-with-arduino
hum I'm writing something that doesn't seem offensive at all but it keep getting automodded away?
The automod filters aren't perfect, it will filter out certain words and phrases, even if it's not in an offensive context. Heck, I'd suspect it could even be part of another word and still trip, though I'd rather not test it...
We had to ban the word "nitro" to deal with spam bots. Apologies. It's only specifically that spelling, if you use a longer version of the word like nitrogen, it should post successfully.
@real basin Done!
It's very nice that there's a help with community channel
Just some feedback, many of of the recent posts in #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio are people in the wrong place, mostly looking for help with inputs and outputs. I wouldn't think it's practical to rename adafruitIO but maybe the channel could be tweaked?
I know it breaks the mold but perhaps "help-with-adafruit-io (IoT)" would help?
Question: I know this is server is mostly for adafruit stuff, but are there any rules against suggesting parts from other vendors? For example, is it frowned upon if we suggest a part or board from tindie, sparkfun or somewhere else?
Just something Ive wondered.
That's perfectly fine AFAIK. I've never had a tap on the shoulder for suggesting Sparkfun, and several people here sell on Tindie.
Everything is allowed except Sparkfun.
Heh, just kidding.
Nah, there's nothing wrong with other manufacturers.
If anything, Adafruit is always open to supporting other players in this space, especially if they offer something Adafruit doesn't.
I usually try to recommend Adafruit products here if there's a good fit, but there's nothing against something from someone else, especially if it's a niche Adafruit doesn't support.
I get paid by Adafruit, and I just linked to some Sparkfun products for someone. We resell a few Sparkfun products.
Pololu is another example
Every year we ask other maker companies for their holiday sales and promotions and make a blog post about it, with info from the ones that responds.
Unfortunately folks aren't reading - the channel topic is clear on what it's for. I can't think of a reasonable rename at the moment. We'll think on it.
Absolutely fine to do that.
The more folks there are involved in these things, the healthier the industry can be.
Upvotes for all 🙂
Adafruit can't and won't ever be able to carry all the things everyone needs. 😄
Lol True
I figured digi + mouser (et, al) were OK since they supply components but wasnt too sure about competitors or even over seas vendors.
I don't think Adafruit has any direct "competitors" in the traditional sense of the word. They fall somewhere between a distributor and an OEM, but lean towards an educational priority despite being a for-profit business entity...?
I have an interest thought about that, that I'll put in #general-chat edit:On second thought, I'll keep it personal
No worries, it's all good. 🙂
DigiKey is another one. They sell Adafruit products. Adafruit and DigiKey have partnered on a few products. And every week, Lady Ada does a video where she goes to
to find a part ("The Great Search", or as the recent YouTube captions called it, "The Great Church")
it's all one big happy family, until you mention aliexpress ;-)
Does the adafruit server not allow us to look through previous posts from a user? Im trying to find something I said (so I dont repost it) and to make sure its not a case of "I typed it out in my mind but never hit enter"
This is what I mean:
I think search is just broken right now
Yeap just confirmed it on another server
Haven't been able to use it, even on my own server
Im going to leave it up but strike it out
I agree that the name is pretty clear I'll try to think of solutions
Maybe a pinned message? Not the cleanest solution but perhaps it would catch a small number of confused fomks
TBH, it seems like people rarely read pinned messages unless pointed there, and even then, it's dubious.
It's not difficult to add though, so if we can come up with one that works, we can add it.
Yeah that's my experience too tbh, discord doesn't make it super clear that exist in the first place so I didn't know until someone mentioned them
Not sure if it'll help with a pinned post/topic. Might be a language barrier, too. They see I/O and think, "well, that's what I'm doing here with serial communication!" or whatever.
I suppose renaming the service to "AdaFruit IoT" and the channel to match would address that, but I think it's a bit late in the game to rename everything now.
I agree
I stop by there pretty regularly to lurk on the convos so I can always redirect people.
Very cool!!
<@&327289013561982976> I was removed from #help-with-circuitpython with absolutely no warning or reason?
Can a moderator PM me with which portion of the code-of-conduct I violated?
hmm, no one did anything. What do you mean, removed?
I am no longer able to see or message into that channel
did you collapse the category?
oh boy
click on the header to unfold
turns out I'm just an idiot, thank you moderators! 🙂
apparently I'm still new to discord
I still get tripped up by that some days, don't worry.
Not an idiot, just unaware. I've been using discord for ages and things still surprise me
🙂
Wow, some of the latest offerings in #newproducts are less than family friendly
Yeah, oof
Agreed!
I'm not really offended at all, I use coarse language with friends, but I have enjoyed how professional and open-to-all adafruit stuff usually is.
Suggestion: rename #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio to #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio-api
Or maybe service instead of API
help-with-adafruitino
I like the notion of an AdaFruit Arduino called an "AdaFruitino", but there's already the AdaFruit Boarduino.
@rain timber Can you see this and respond?
Hi @dusk niche
ah ha, there you are
the moderators have been discussing this, and our chief q's are about moderation, especially banning and the like. We don't want to have to ban someone on both sides manually.
Someone is going to be talking to a friend, who brought this up as well, but that will be next week.
@rain timber I have not used it, but I did find https://github.com/EionRobb/purple-discord while searching related to this
I might use that, but t I think discord's ToS bans third party clients
Banning would not be bridged, so it probably won't work.
Would it be okay to start an unofficial non-bridged CircuitPython chat on Matrix?
nobody can stop you
Here is a room, which we won't necessarily spend significant time in now. But we felt we needed to claim the name: https://matrix.to/#/#circuitpython:matrix.org
You're invited to talk on Matrix
did we again have a spam attack?
I see a lot of channels marked as unread, but no new messages when I go there
yes, the messages were deleted, but the "new" flag doesn't go away
It's ridiculous that Discord hasn't fixed that yet... One of its more annoying shortcomings.
There is apparently a way to clear the unread flag, I’m not sure though as I’ve not found literature showing how
to bulk-mark a server as read, you can right click the server icon
for admins to clear the unread flag for users, i'm not sure
This is what I meant. It was mentioned on a Twitch stream I was watching the other day
I should have asked the streamer how they did that
You can do that, but it also clears any channels with genuine unread messages.
Not sure if what was posted in #general-chat was OK. Someone might want to check that video.
I am getting 0 RTD resistance from MAX31865. this issue occurs randomly and continuous(if issue occurs is will be gone continues about 20-30 data) about 2% (tested 10000 data). Could you please suggest any reason and solution for this.
hi - this channel is for meta-discussions about the community. You'll want to repost in another channel. Choose the Arduino or CircuitPython channel appropriately.
suggestion: add a bot like discord’s official one for pronoun roles https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500012528941-Pronoun-Picker-Bot-FAQ
Thanks for the suggestion, I wasn't aware of the bot or its "official" status. I'm testing it out in a private server, and I'll bring it up with other community moderators. One initial reaction I had is that as server operators we have to define the list of (up to 12?) pronouns that are available, while the custom of adding it to your nickname manually means we give people full freedom to list the pronouns that are most appropriate.
that kinda defeats the whole idea of specifying pronouns
I mean, limiting what is allowed
There is an option for 'ask me', which is maybe intended to be the way to have other pronouns. And if you configure it to not "use roles" then I think it just adds the '[Pronouns]' to your server nickname, meaning that you could write whatever you wanted.
That didn't actually work on my test server, but probably because the bot can't change the server nickname of the server owner.
Thank you for your suggestion. At this time we do not plan to enable the pronoun bot. Instead, we encourage any user who wishes to display pronouns to do it via their server nickname and/or server profile, as you and I have already done. Our Code of Conduct calls for '[r]especting the identity of every community member, including asking for their pronouns if uncertain.
Yeah, I'd rather not be labelled at all.
But. Clicking a button is so much easier than just going into your server profile and typing the letters themselves. 😉
But... why would I do either? 😉
I mean, most of the time I guess we can just use your screen name.
But, if we're writing a longer sentence it is demanded of us to not use the same word over and over again.
Right.. I don't have to. 🙂
So long as it stays that way, I'm good.
😄
You know what. That's totally something a bot would say. Are you emergent? Is there about to be an uncanny valley event?
I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave.
Maybe you're fed up. Maybe you want to be by yourself. Who knows? You look down and see a tortoise, Leon Armand. It's crawling toward you...
Hello guy, I not speak English very well, but, i need help, I'm new here, and I don't know how to record my code in adafruit , could anyone help me? I have adafruit pro trinket.
Eu sou Brasileiro, se tiver alguém br pra me ajudar, eu agradeço
this channel is for discussions about the discord community. You may want to ask in #help-with-arduino instead, if this is a technical question about Arduino. I do not understand what you mean by "to record adafruit". If necessary, use Google Translate on your question.
sorry, my sentence got confused
maybe we should make a category and channels for other languages
doesn't work if you have only one user in each language
it might make sense to have a channel for translators, I think
makes sense, but how would we know how many folks there are before trying?
could just do a translator channel and start there for non-english
i looked in the Arduino and Python discords for possible examples, but they don't seem have non-English channels
usually the non-english communities congregate in other places, language-specific more than topic-specific, like hackerspace forums
so you have the critical mass
Moderating multiple languages gets really tough. It's not often an actual issue, but the rare incidents that do occur take a solid amount of time to figure out. Just as a heads up
A multiple languages channel might also help docs translations/clarifications
the Arduino discord has an #international channel but it's barely used as far as I can tell
Heh heh, maybe we should start with #help-with-chinese-datasheets...
google translate works surprisingly well on those
Oh I can do Chinese translations as needed, if google translate ever comes up short haha
What roles are available and how do I get them? I see the community helper roll, but no bot to select it. I also see the maker faire roll, and Ive been to the one in NYC many times when it was thing, so I dont know if thats good enough to get that roll or if I have to have been a maker there (I do have proof that Ive visited if needed).
I got mine by being active in the chat during deep dives
I assume it was manually assigned.
deep dives?

@visual fulcrum Hey, I'm one of the moderators but speaking a bit off the cuff. Mostly we use roles as a way to ensure people are notified about things they're interested in (circuitpythonistas, deep divers) or how they help the community (community helpers, etc). I think some of the other roles like crowd-supply, master punners, etc are more historical.
and, no, we don't have bots to set roles, the admins or moderators need to do it.
so for instance if you want notifications of circuitpython weekly voice meetings, you'd ask in the #circuitpython channel and a moderator would give you the role when they see it
Enjoy being on the server!
(I see you've been with us for awhile so in that case continue enjoying being on the server 🙂 )
Would there be a benefit to having a channel on the discord that just displays new issues/threads in the forum?
It seems like bot channels generally end up ignored after a while. Also based on my vague info of the forums, it would be SUPER noisy. Difficult to keep up with if one wanted to.
if it were just new threads, it might be ok, and we could split it up based on subforums. If a little of the text of the first post appeared, that would be helpful.
There are already tools for the moderators/answerers in the forums to find threads with no official replies, etc.
@weary plinth @fickle oar would this be useful for you, for a quick way to scan for stuff in the forums? It's not a substitute for checking for unanswered stuff
i don't think it would be useful. yep - there's already a way to check for "new" and "unanswered" posts in forums. and double yep - it would be SUPERDUPER noisy.
In the forums I usually look at the "topics with no moderator replies" section and subscribe to any topics that interest me and I wqnt to know what others say on this. In discord I'm still learning but I try to check the "unreads" and "mention" option.
Good to know, thank you for the explanation! I wasn't sure what the workflow was and knew a lot of work was tied to the discord, so I thought relaying it here might be worth a shot. But added noise is a really good point.
Oh thank you! I'll give this workflow a shot! It should help me!
Are TikTok video links acceptable in #general-chat ?
Along the lines of adding a feed from the forum a feed of new posts from the StackOverflow CP tag would be another source of people who need help.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/adafruit-circuitpython
There's also https://www.reddit.com/r/circuitpython/
There could be value to a firehose. Sometimes we look at things with intention, to see all of something, or to find something in particular. But sometimes we are looking for serendipity, like the old days of channel surfing.
Video links of any kind must link to content that aligns with our community standards and the Code of Conduct. You are welcome to post TikTok links, as long as the content is applicable and reasonable. That said, please remember that this is a maker/tech/creator/artist/hobbyist/electronics/programming etc community, and we'd prefer that videos linked fit within the scope of the community as well as being within the Code of Conduct. Thank you for asking!
Okay, I just wanted to be sure. I had found a video of someone who showed how to make an NFT Fungable which was technical but also funny
Was there another spam attack? I’m seeing unreads in every channel, but no new messages
I guess so
Yes, early this morning.

Is that bot ^ built into discord?
no, it's separate (called dyno)
I don't think any bots are "built into" discord.
On PC, you can click on the bot's username to pull up its details.
Do you have to pay for dyno? I had an idea for a mild improvement to an adafruit function but I'd need to have my own test server to develop it in.
Only for premium? https://dyno.gg/premium
Ooh neat thx
Can I bug a mod briefly in a private thread? I think that's a thing. No one's in trouble just a question
done
I was thinking about posting on the forums my question about using the CircuitPython adafruit_rfm69 library on FeatherWing - RFM69HCW 433MHz on the Raspberry Pi, should I post in the CircuitPython forum, or in another category?
CircuitPython is fine
Hello, I have inherited 3 LED panels. P2 indoor 128 x 256 each. I done some Googling and it looks like there is no way to drive these panel with simple RPI hats. I have found an LED Controller Novastar receiver card which has a Ethernet Gigabit port. There are "Sending Cards" in the very expensive category. Is there a way to drive these panels using a RPI and Hat or Receiving card?
This channel is more for questions about the server or the community. You'd be better off asking in #help-with-linux-sbcs. We discourage crossposting, but in this case, I suggest posting to that channel instead. Thanks!
Python Discord has a bot that flags when you post unformatted code, and suggests how to format it. Useful here?
Could be? I'll bring it up with my team. Thanks for the heads up.
Like this??
Discord has support for Markdown, which allows you to post code with full syntax highlighting. Please use these whenever you paste code, as this helps improve the legibility and makes it easier for us to help you.
To do this, use the following method:
(triple backtick)
py
print('Hello, world!')
(triple backtick)
This will result in the following:
print('Hello, world!')
You can edit your original message to correct your code block.```
https://github.com/python-discord/bot - source code
@real basin that's the one
@real basin It's not so simple to extract the code. I started working on it over the weekend. We'll get it implemented soon!
what we really need is a anti-crossposting enforcement bot
I believe that might already be a thing... ?
@winged rapids The current bot catches if someone spams all the channels at once, but that's a timing thing, and is not specifically related to posting in multiple channels. I understand the reason for your request, but I feel like for the most part, community members and moderators both catch it and tell folks not to. Once told, I've not seen someone do it again (unless they're deliberately spamming). I realise this means one extra step for everyone involved, but for now it works. I don't think our moderation bot has that feature.
Yeah, I figured.
Anyone check #general-tech? Strange things are afoot.
<@&327289013561982976> Probably worth a look in #general-tech indeed.
@abstract coral and @alpine oar Thank you for the heads up. It appears the the situation calmed down so I think any further followup can wait for more of the moderator team to get involved.
So I own a Discord server and am new to this whole thing. I use Dyno for my mod bot. Can Dyno auto-delete mod messages if they don't comply with my Dyno rules, or are mods exempt for Dyno rules??
Mods are exempt. At least on our server. I don't know if that's a setting, or if it's hardcoded. We haven't had an issue with it, so I never looked into that detail.
OK. I see. I was testing some of the 🤬 settings and it wasn't working. I guess that's because I own the server....
I guess I'll test it with a friend

A useful tool might be a puppet account that you log into via, say, the discord web browser using incognito mode
(I realize this was a few days ago, but still)
@warm lagoon @real basin Turns out you can log into multiple accounts in the Discord app. I have an account called imitationkattni that I use for testing. She's terrible. We've had to ban her multiple times. I've never met her, but I bet she has a pointy mustache.
should really get maintenance to look at that teleporter
Yeah.... ||I did that - I don't know who alt3holliday is, but he's annoying||
Oh, no....
I see 2 @topaz seal 's
That's the problem with imitations. There's never just one.

I have a suggestion for orders & shipping, where is the right place to send it?
problably here https://www.adafruit.com/contact_us
that goes to a plethora of options for anything but suggestions
that is for dealing with issues on existing orders
I dont have a problem, I have a solution
now I sound like a salesman, ooops
or just email support@adafruit.com
I have no affiliation with Adafruit, so I'm just making suggesttions.
Hello all,
If I wish to enquire on availability of some Adafruit product (namely PowerBoost 1000C), and estimate on when will it be back in stock, where can I ask them?
You can try posting to the support forum https://forums.adafruit.com/viewforum.php?f=19 But in general, the response has been to sign up for notifications.
Thanks.
I've done that. Hoping it makes a comeback soon 🙂
Digikey has them in stock -- if this is the correct part https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/adafruit-industries-llc/2465/5356834
Unfortunately my only source is Adafruit and Pimoroni because I need a few extra parts not available elsewhere.
I gather your trying not to have multiple charges for shipping? Do you have a Microcenter store near you ? Might be a pick up option
There is no micro center in Sweden. But thanks for that info :)
Mouser ofter has local locations, including Sweden. They stock Pimoroni and Adafruit gear as well as other components.
Are there any contact phone numbers available? Or mods affiliated with adafruit directly? I’m having an issue with my account but can only get a generic response via email. Thanks for any help!
Telephone support is not available. Please resend a more specific q to support@adafruit.com if you are not getting a useful answer.

Fair enough, made all the questions optional for a reason.
Any suggestions if I’ve filled out multiple requests through the “ContactUs” page and sent an email to support@adafruit.com on 5/17 with no response at all?
if you try to log in now, does it say your account has been suspended? The login flow was revamped to be clearer
No, I just logged out of my current session, cleared history and cache and was able to log in perfectly fine. Only thing new I noticed today was the red memorial day shipping banner on the top of the homepage.
Were you trying to buy an RPi?
I’d have to ask my employees about their accounts.
so it's not your account that you are inquiring about with support?
Yes, but I’m having issues buying even non-rpi items
It’s all of our accounts, mine and theirs
Accounts that attempt to circumvent our RPi buying restrictions are suspended.
From what support told me through email, it was one rpi per day and I haven’t tried buying more than that. The other accounts are so my employees can buy one for their own projects.
It’s only 4 of us, myself included
The behavior of your accounts, collectively or singly, has violated our purchase rules. That's all I can say.
That’s really unfortunate. I wish Adafruit would have been transparent about the rules they are enforcing. They only ever stated a 1 per day policy, which was observed, and marked my shipping address as fraudulent activity. I simply followed the instructions and direction that was given to me from the support team. My intentions were never to disadvantage anyone and I wish the policies/rules I allegedly violated were made clear and transparent. I’d appreciate it if you could share that feedback with them for me as it seems that they’ve stopped responding to my emails and requests.
passed on
I have a 2 year old forum topic I'd like unlocked to update it. Or should I just make a new forum post and reference the old one? The project was successful with Arduino and I recently ported the entire project to Circuit Python. 🙂
Also want to say the sensor malfunctions I was having were completely my fault. They work much better on Circuit Python and the background color issue isn't an issue on CP only Arduino.
Nevermind. I just created a new topic and linked to the older project. Probably best if there are separate topics for the Arduino and Circuit Python anyway.
Making a new topic is fine and is the recommended way. We lock old topics to avoid "tag-on" reports that are really new problems, and to avoid spam posts.
I'm having a bit of a hard time finding the answer on google so maybe I can get an EE to help me out! Of course when measuring current we have to break the circuit and place the multimeter in series. My question is why can't we do such a thing in parallel? I'm guessing its because no electrons flow through the multimeter since there is some sort of resistance in there?
It’s actually due to what we call KVL and KCL which is Kierchoffs voltage law and current law.
Spelling on the persons name but look up KVL and KCL and it should make sense.
But TLDR: KVL basically says that voltage is constant in parallel circuits (a multimeter measuring voltage for instance) and with voltage constant, current is dependent on each parallel branch
KCL on the other hand tells us that current going in and out of a circuit is generally constant whereas voltage measured on different points along the circuit will probably vary (a voltage divider circuit or LED+resistor circuit). The only way to measure the current of a circuit is to measure in series for this reason.
you can also measure current by measuring the voltage drop across a calibrated series resistor that's built into the high-current line (sometimes called a shunt resistor), but if you don't have one already, you're going to have to break the circuit to put something in series
hmmm you guys know this isn't a question channel right ??
this is help with community to talk about the server policies/moderation
Yeah, probably good to move it to #general-tech or #general-chat
Would it be possible to get a “help-with-part-sourcing” channel? One for like if you’re trying to find a module for your project or help finding a replacement regulator for you design. Something more part related that won’t get lost in project conversations?
I think #help-with-hw-design has served this purpose somewhat; maybe we should generalize it to #help-with-hw-design or a similar name
That might be helpful
I like that suggestion
I was just thinking that someone might not necessarily need help designing the circuit but just an extra hand at finding a replacement part or finding something maybe they’re having trouble googling
Perhaps 🤔 the “help-with-hw-design” seems a little more clear
help-finding-parts might be worth its own channel, we get a lot of questions like "can someone recommend a part that does X and has feature Y"
This could also cover mechanical parts and the like.
And questions like where to find particular kinds of parts in hobbyist quantities.
yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking but couldn't articulate
I prefer the idea of renaming pcb design for now.
I am hesitant to create new channels because we already have so many. I don't want things to get too watered down or confusing to new people (it already can be).
@tardy creek Would that be acceptable for now?
yeah, that I think would at least help the ambiguity
help-with-hw-design work?
maybe we could update the channel description to let people know they can ask about parts?
thanks 🙂 I hope this helps people better find help including myself 🙂
Hi All,
I just joined the community. I hope you're all doing well.
whats the best group to chat about RP2040 ADC?
in CircuitPython, Arduino, or pico-sdk?
From a software or hardware perspective?
perhaps both. its about the ... uno hw defeat
?
I'm afraid I don't follow. If it's help you need and the appropriate channel isn't immediately obvious, #help-with-projects is a fairly safe default.
For less of help and more of an open conversation, #general-tech is always open as well.
defect
still not sure what you're talking about
is it about a particular board/product? If so, which one?
answered in #help-with-projects
Problem with forum word filter, filtering out the word "dumps" which is a legitimate json function and wouldn't allow me to post my code without trying to get around the filter.
I removed the specific filter for "dumps"
In the Adafruit YouTube channel there’s no playlist of layer by layer? Would be nice to binge watch them for learning fusion 360. 3D hangouts is always fun but it’s not really a fusion 360 tutorial like layer by layer.
Hi people, does anyone know where i could buy a mapple mini (stm32f103c8t6)?.
I ve been looking everywhere and I couldn’t find it.
there is a chip shortage still, some stm32 chips go for hundreds of dollars a piece
allegedly there are manufacturers that buy whole new washing machines just to remove the chips from them
also, this is the wrong channel for this, probably
Just search 'adafruit layer by layer' in YT. Not that many yet, but a playlist would be cool. 👍
i would like to request more layer by layer videos then. i really enjoy them even though i've never used fusion 360, the 3D design aspect is fascinating.
I've been trying to learn fusion 360 and most of the videos out there are pretty terrible. The layer by layers I've seen have been pretty good, though. I would love to see more of them at that quality level. The problem is if you try to hit a quota of number of videos, the quality is likely to start falling.
i'm thinking that the #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio channel description could indicate more clearly (and right up front) that Adafruit IO is an IoT cloud service, to maybe cut down on off-topic questions #help-with-wippersnapper-and-adafruitio message
Personally, I wonder if that's less an issue with the channel name and more just the naming of AdafruitIO as a service. I mean, I get what the name means, but I feel like Adafruit IoT would be prone to a lot less confusion by comparison.
Not to be critical, just my two cents. I feel like most people don't really read channel descriptions anyways...
Perhaps not
I see people asking for hardware related topics in not so hardware related channels. You can only do so much to lead people to the right places
I'll take a look at it. It's at least worth trying. I question how many people actually read the channel descriptions though.
Part of the problem is that the descriptions are hidden away on the mobile app. Nothing you personally can do about that.
Hopefully that's a bit clearer.
it's a line all the way at the top. maybe if there was a description popup when you rollover a topic name, or right click on a topic.
yep, never noticed it way at the top. :/
worse on mobile, it's invisible unless you click on the channel name itself
Wow, aggressive the bot is being
The censor doesn’t allow for the word Sat ur day because it has another word in it that is banned.
At least you don't live in Sc * nthorpe...
Guide has spelling mistake. Says the RFM69 is simper not simpler, unless simper is some kind of radio lingo I’m unfamiliar with. https://learn.adafruit.com/radio-featherwing/circuitpython-for-rfm9x-lora
There's a feedback link on the LHS of the guide
Thank you, I never noticed it before. ha.
Oof, thanks for letting us know. We have a new set up.
@tardy creek Try it again when you get a moment. I changed a thing, but I have no idea if it'll work.
@tardy creek Scratch that, I don't think I fixed the issue.
yeah, didn't work
I thought it was our new set up.
Discord really needs to upgrade moderation tool capabilities to know the difference between a common day and someone trying to evade the censor
It's not. The old set up suddenly is grabbing a BUNCH of stuff that I really don't think it was before.
Wait, you're getting snagged by Discord? Not Dyno?
Dyno isn't Discord.
Dyno is a standalone bot. Discord only recently finally upped their mod game with Server AutoMod.
But I didn't want to wholesale drop Dyno until we knew Discord was up to speed.
It's definitely Dyno.
ah okay
For the bots, yes.
Otherwise it simply says "deleted".
Uff. OK, I need to dig into Dyno because you're not the only one who ran into something this weekend.
Two other completely innocuous words were flagged as well.
I can't imagine no one has sent those words before......
yeah
I can't even imagine why
Part of popular is Romanian profanity apparently. I told me what part of the word was flagged.
weird that it flags parts of a word, that usually causes massive false positives
I'm telling you this is new. I mean, there are a decent list of words in there that are wildcarded to grab them in anything. But not these.
So something changed, or somehow someone never said them before.
I'm guessing they updated their default list perhaps?
So now I have to go dig through it and move some things to "exact match" vs. "wildcard".
ah they are explicitly wildcarded on a word-per-word basis I see
Thanks for reporting. I've fixed the spelling on it.
@cyan perch @tardy creek Fixed for now. ^^
thanks !
Thank you for letting me know! Please continue to do so if this happens again.
Thanks!
Let me know if this isn't the right place, but I'm looking at Liz's Mini LED Matrix Audio Visualizer learn guide (https://learn.adafruit.com/mini-led-matrix-audio-visualizer?view=all#code-the-audio-spectrum-light-show) and I don't think the section "Code the Audio Spectrum Light Show" should maybe be in the guide? It's similar code, but for the LED glasses project. There's two sections of code in this learn guide, and only the Waterfall Visualizer is needed
Please use the "Feedback? Corrections?" link on the bottom left of the guide to report Learn guide issues. Thanks!
Will do, thank you
@hushed schooner are there any plans to schedule the events of Circuit Python Day so that they're distributed in a way that suits other parts of the world? (I would love to engage more with live events that Adafruit organise but things like show n tell always end up at like 3am Europe time). I booked the day off work for cpday but it occurs to me that most of it will probably happen in the evening.
I wonder if a call for volunteers could help us find some Europe based moderators that could run some sessions too (we have some great people over here, such as the Pi Foundations, Pimoroni etc)
I would potentially even be happy to stream / moderate a European Show n Tell or Q&A type session (I'm not a pro streamer but I've done a lot of this kind of stuff for work).
Kattni is out until Monday, so she may not see this until then. But yes, I know they want to do stuff during the day US time to help with the timezone difference rather than the late start the shows have on Wed. And pt mentioned a longer show and tell during the day, too, last night on Ask an Engineer. But I hear what you're saying.
Ah nice, no rush on a response 🙂 We have a few weeks
She'll have the details, just didn't want you to think she was ignoring you. 🙂
Much appreciated!
(I am out until Monday - thanks Paul! - but I stopped in for something else and wanted to get back to you, not realising someone else already had.) Not at the moment. The plan is to start streaming in the morning Eastern Time, but I still don't think that is as early as you were hoping. The problem is, for an Adafruit stream to happen during your day, folks on our end would need to be awake, because we'd have to coordinate streaming from our end (which is to say to get it out on our streaming services etc). I might be able to swing that, but very seriously no guarantees. You're absolutely welcome to host something yourself, obviously, and we can promote it before hand. But for it to show up on our channels, one of us needs to be there. You're not the first person to ask us to accommodate other time zones, and I wish I had a better answer.
It’s understandable. I don’t think it would be reasonable for us to ask you folks to start streaming at 4am just so we can have CircuitPython content with our brunch 😂
lol. I love the idea, though. If you want to consider putting something together, and feel like you can get enough traction, we can consider trying to coordinate something a bit earlier for you.
Please send an email to circuitpythonday@adafruit.com with any ideas, if you are interested.
can we get an oshpark emoji? they're as important of a us maker community member as digikey.
