Yes, I’ll be doing that since I’m supposedly a great observer said by one of my old classmates that made me quit German for two years (it’s been near three and I’m willing to give it another whirl 😁)

My experience with English and German so far, is that you proceed with big leaps which are only possible once you have the tools. So I’d grind the base grammar and vocabulary, in order for you to be able to expose yourself to short texts and basic hearing excercises. Then you can study slightly more advanced grammar and expose yourself to slightly more advanced content. You proceed this way until you are basically B2-C1, then the only way to improve is by shear self-immersion in the language and culture.

Duolingo

Duolingo is a decent resource to start with if you're a complete beginner, but it's neither efficient nor comprehensive!

What Duolingo will teach you about grammar is very limited, and none of the systems they use will help you practise much of it.
You can learn some vocabulary with it, but their method (based on the concept of spaced repetition) doesn't work for everybody, and the way Duolingo teaches is not very effective compared to the amount of time it requires from you.

So, if you find it useful, by all means keep using it, but remember not to fall for its gamification of language learning, and move past it when it stops being beneficial. Ignore the streaks.

In any case, keep in mind that Duolingo is not enough to learn a language, ever.

For grammar, explanation is minimal and imo confusing. You need the user generated comments to have a more in depth understanding, defeats the point.
Vocab? Not enough focus on Gender, no vocab lists seperate from lessons to revise.

Only just looked up 6 Minute English for this but I would say that "Die Nachrichten" on Spotify is pretty good for basic(ish) news.

they do interviews on the street in german and they explain grammar and words

it’s pretty much entirely in german except for the subtitles, which is really helpful
