I find it hard enough to organize a game night let alone a stage talk about the game. The inclusivity of it also comes into play; a role is required to be the stage leader if I remember correctly. Then the stage master allows others to speak but if it were just a level role it'd be a mess possibly

my idea is that community members who are 'well known' can request the role to be stage moderator on the stage channel. I don't mean assigning someone every time a new podcast happens.

and i genuinely don't think a lack of people joining is the issue... back when you gave me the stage channel to experiment for The Fall, almost 2 people joined every 10 seconds out of curiosity. and don't forget: the stage channel gets a custom tab at the top whenever one is happening. this allows for more people to notice and join in

I think the problem with game nights (while i love them, don't get me wrong) is that a lot of people genuinely don't know about the fact that they are held every now and then.

Of course people can join in if they want to speak, but stage moderators just keep the peace, they invite people (and remove them if they cause chaos) we're gonna need a couple of people that we know can moderate a stage channel, so that it doesn't become chaotic

or- we can assign e.x: 5 people every week, and that way everyone eventually gets a chance to talk in the stage channel. we don't exclude anyone this way.

I believe this is going in circles so I will only explain my position one more time. I am aware of how the stage channels work as I have set one up for a specific function. The lecture nature of a stage channel excludes people from free talking which can be done in a normal voice channel. Its excluding people who aren't "well known"; which 5 people each week and for what purpose? Talking about the game can be accomplished in any voice channel. Problem people need to be reported to the staff. Our moderators know who to accomplish this; we don't need users who have special privilege to police channels of any kind; they haven't been vetted. I hope this addresses all of these things; if not then I am closing the issue regardless as I see no point in a lecture based scheduled stage channel for talking about the game.

I'm fine with the slowmode myself. The mods have it in place to curb the chaos when chat goes wild. It's fairly difficult to click a user's name when comments are flying upward so quickly and I imagine correctly tagging someone to be muted/banned is rather tricky in those moments. And what you brought up is one of those variables we've taken into consideration. We've even gotten complaints for one of the few ping'able roles we have, which users must self-assign: Game Night Attendee. And that's a relatively small group. So I'm sure we'd encounter similar issues if we were to do this with a much more widely used role like Builder.

The reason images are restricted to level 5 is related to multiple instances of users joining and spamming every channel with NSFW images. Having this permission restricted outside of a handful of channels keeps this from being a larger problem.

In my opinion, community effort is going to matter more than anything for that channel.
Including more info on the post makes it easy to find in a search.
Discord can't parse info from an image (and neither could a bot), so just posting a picture and saying 'Euclid' makes it so your post never comes up in a search of the channel.
At a minimum, a word that describes whats in the picture means I can see your post when I search in:#explorers-archive freighter or whatever is in the image.

Absolutely, which is why i was looking at it more broadly. I'm not very familiar with the bots in discord which is why i asked, i imagine that if one were used it'd have to work in one of two ways.

1: A bot function that allows you to flag posts with the details it lacks. which is then searchable via the bot "Would allow retroactive data logging of the previous posts"
2: A channel the bot is able to use as a database. IE: Using function ://Ship,Red,Blue,Fighter,Euclid which would then generate a random list of 5-10 ships that match the description

Again i'd like to note that i have no idea what the limitations of discord bots are i'm just trying to come up with a solution that would allow us to use the information already present.

Alternatively to make a searchable database or catalog of the stuff found moving forward i can think of two ways this would work out.

1: A new discord channel that only allows people of a certain rank to post curated, and formatted content. It could function using the already existing search on discord as you described.

• Another way it could be done is similar to the curated screenshot channel, where the bot is used to post content that is popular. Doing it this way would prevent flooding of content.

2: A database website "I'm already looking into options for creating one"

re: the screenshot discussion in #nms-photomode-gallery on how much editing is allowed there, I think post-processing and in-game mods are ok. But I think when new details are added or drawn on top of the screenshot that alters the image in fundamental ways, then it really ceases to be a game screenshot and veers into the art category. So I personally think those artworks based on screenshots would be better showcased in #no-mans-art .

Sohail suggested I bring it here, so shoutout to them. Was wondering if the server could add a text-to-speech bot? I would very much enjoy interacting with people in voice chat while we do our own things but voice dysphoria and the like doesn't make it easy.

It wouldn't be much of a hassle to add, I think. Also, it would be a pretty neat tool for anyone who wanted to interact in a voice chat conversation but can't talk (social anxiety, some health issues, etc.)

While I completely agree with the disconnect chat services have between emotion and words and how that works in real life; gifs also have the propensity to cause a wave of gifs to be posted. With a time limit of 1 per 30 minutes; that's a lot to keep track of for one and also it can easily disenfranchise some people from ever posting the reaction gif they want since some people tend to post them more often. It's easier, and fairer, for everyone to simply keep them out of most channels to avoid clutter and controversy. 😊

Sometimes I wish we had a channel focused more on just discussion about the game. The main #no-mans-sky channel tends to fairly poor for this because of the amount of people having conversations about their ships, playing MP together, posting screenshots, etc. Points for discussion get lost quickly. #nms-the-future was a great addition for discussion, but is very focused on proposed future content obv. I would love to have a discussion channel focused more on the current game, analyzing the way the game has changed over time, that kind of thing. Not a home for whining and complaints, but simply a place to have interesting discussions.

Idea came from because I have got many questions what's experimental, how to join in it etc. And what after you are in experimental branch, how to get back in normal branch..

Experimental (only in Steam)

If you want to leave experimental branch in future, it's highly recommended to wait that public branch is out
and it's identical with your experimental one, to avoid any nasty suprises.

Using #nms-the-future channel (which I originally petitioned the mods to create and I greatly appreciate that it was created) puts legacy discussion in a context in which -- if I understand the revised purpose well -- the discussion is valid only when related to what we want to see in the game going forwards. But some of us loved legacy versions for their own sake, some people loved to play those versions instead, and I don't think that discussion was meaningless or useless to give a home to. I suppose a separate Discord server would have to be created for freeform legacy discussion.
And @spice crypt there was no insult intended at all. It has just been frustrating to always feel on eggshells when talking about legacy stuff here and I was really tired (3am).

I do have to say that this is a suggestion channel for this server @nocturne chasm @robust pine, not a place to suggest creating your own server because you dislike other discussion points interfering somehow with what you want a channel to be about. All the opinions expressed in #no-mans-sky have to endure detraction and disagreement; I don't see why legacy ideas need to be generated only in a vacuum by themselves without "newer players" and in fact that attitude is bothersome. I also don't know how many times that I've said the discussions of older versions can be contained in #nms-the-future. If you wish to create your own space for whatever reason take it to dms, do not use this channel for that.

I want you to know I have huge respect for you and the mod team and I understand that the legacy channel could reach a boiling point easily with the negative comments, so I can see why you would remove it to avoid creating a mess to clean up. The server talk was just having an open discussion and not trying to undermine this server, I understand why it is not appropriate though.

It is not entirely related to the negative attitude it also served no purpose as the discussion overlaps with the future channel as was the intended creation point, and screenshots and conversation buried each other. Now, the visuals of legacy can be shown and even added to #the-louvre in a more efficient way than was possible with legacy, as often there were just dumps of 12 or more screenshots and little attention to them.

Which I have also repeated now several times.

yeah, I have talked about it in those before but rarely as no one ever responds. I have talked about it in those about 1/20th as much as I have wanted to.

I just see it as a field of dreams situation. all the VR players have no way for easy communication. so communication doesn't happen. aka Build it and they will come.

I would say I have probably talked to other NMS VR players more in other servers then I have in this one. (and that's not without me trying at times I feel like, though knowing the chance of getting anyone here being so slim does cause me not to even attempt it)

I 100% understand not having one as its not the core player base. just feel like its about as good of a suggestion as any for this server. one of the main few ways I could see to actually really improve it in some manner

I know I am slightly biased as I have stated this game to be one of if not the best PCVR games on the platform at the moment, visuals/content/gameplay. It's really one of the few rare AAA experiences that you can play for 3+ hours non stop a night for hundred and hundreds of hours. (I have 1333 messages here and only 102 of them include the word "VR" that could be so much higher!)

The only people able to see logs would be the staff, so not sure what you're referring to. Any third party applications that alter or exploit Discord's functions are a Terms of Service violation, which we enforce. Not dismissing your suggestion by the way, just don't understand the rationale.

A "badinfo" command based off the one in another server I'm in. Basically it's for support channels and for technical issues like the game crashing or not launching. If someone posts a technical question/issue, but they provide no context (what system they're on, presence of mods, multiplayer on or off, general system specs if on PC), then you do ?badinfo or !badinfo and the bot tells the user they need to post more context.

a starship section specifically for fighters. The goal is to design a mockup advertisement directed towards ace pilots and dogfighters!

a settlement section. make an advertisement for the settlement! market it as a neat tourist spot! showcase its citizens, surrounding geography, etc.!

fauna and flora! in the style of some sciency diagram of sorts!

with miscellaneous (perhaps even nonsense) pseudo science text to accompany it to make it feel more biologist like

A channel dedicated to setting up dogfighting matches on normal mode. We could potentially bet resources on matches and do tournaments. I think that the wide variety of ships and the countless number of upgrade arrangements and options could make for some interesting fights. Other players could maybe spectate from frigates/ the smaller fleet ships you can land on.

And there are a whole lot of different environments that could provide variation to fights (asteroids, derelict freighters, as well as in-atmosphere dogfights on planets.

December photo contests like October’s sky that must be taken on cold/snowy planets.

Player run photo contests. (Every 2 days)
Make a new channel for everyone to post the coordinates and name of a planet of their choice. The first planet is chosen at random and pinned to the channel. We then have one day to travel to that planet and take the best picture to upload to the contest channel. The next day, everyone votes. Whoever gets the most votes has their post from the other channel pinned. So the winner chooses the location of the next contest.

The reason I suggested this 2 channel method is because if everyone chooses their planet beforehand, we can start the next contest even if the winner is offline.

There also isn't enough freshness in only photographing frozen planets to make a month long contest

I been thinking of this since I joined a NMS RP group. Since this is the NMS "HUB" group, I was thinking what if we have a channel where ONLY the owner of a server can post. It would be a small description of their server, what it's for, etc. That way if someone wants to get into a RP, or they wana expand their "clan" or whatever it's called here, they can? I know it's a PITA to make a role just for X people to post, but I think it would GREATLY benifit everyone.

I think I like the original incarnation of the :bones: emote more. The glow around it is kinda like it's beaming with excitement lol
The new background removed one's quality is stellar, 10/10. Tho after comparing I don't feel like it carries the same energy as the original, even with the original flipped to face right. Why pirate?

1. Easy way to get some useful resources, like chromatic metal, ...
   2)best way to get frigate modules, these are used to unlock upgrades for your freighter
   How to pirate
   Freighters have cargo pods attached to the hull, those contain the resources or frigate modules. Personal tip, scout the pods and shoot the resources you want if you're picky, otherwise just shoot them all.
   When you start destroying the cargo pods interceptors will be send after you, another tip here is to NOT shoot them down, if you don't shoot the interceptor it will stay at the lowest level (ie 1-2 interceptor)
   Won't I lose standing with faction X?
   If you're careful not at all freighters are escorted by cargo pods (yes HG thx for the convenient naming) if you only shoot the cargo pods on the hull of the freighter you will not lose standing. Shooting the cargo pods escorting the freighter will lose you standing.
   Won't i take damage, from the freighter?
   Barely, the guns of the freighter are surprisingly weak you will take some damage but it is neglect able, the interceptor does more damage hence the previous hint 🙂

You can link multiple freighter "hunts" in succession without any additional interceptors joining, escaping after you're done is easy, either enter your own freighter/space station or planet (this also works on pirates)

I assume you mean game modes. I get the sentiment behind your request. The issue we have is that we'd still get members posting in the wrong channel for a game mode they're not playing. Funneling users to the proper channel will simply add to everyone's efforts and frustration we've been dealing with in that channel. Many new players don't seem to understand what game mode means, and that they need to specify it when LFG'ing. So I don't think adding channels will help solve the problem. It'll just add more confusion and work as we have to moderate each one.

However, we're still open to specific ideas or examples so the team can discuss.

Yep, Hub is proceeding fine with a few delays for irl - have a few outpost systems to get in order before opening. Hoping this week for everyone to get in if everything continues smoothly, and then the Civ channel within a day or two of that. No strict deadline, but I can say no more than two weeks, at the outside. That would be a huge delay also, considering the main system is 95% ready.

How to install mod faq (steam):

1. Go to this directory of NMS: \Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\PCBANKS
2. Delete or rename the file Disablemods.txt
3. Create the folder MODS, if it doesn't exist yet
4. Drop the mod(s) inside the folder MODS.
   4.1) Mods have the .pak extension
5. You're ready to go, when booting up the game you should now get a warning message

EXTRA: When installing multiple mods, they might edit the same file thus you'll need to merge them. Faq how to merge? OR point to the nms modding discord?
