||the best sword would be galaxy sword obtained through a secret puzzle found in cementary, though you can read it only by finding all 4 dwarven scolls (not needed to complete it tho)||

here is my small guide, spoilered for anyone who doesnt want spoilers:
||1. have a good weapon. monsters in the skull cavern are far stronger than the ones in the mines, dont underestimate them. if you dont have the galaxy sword yet, use the lava katana.
2. upgrade your pickaxe and/or buy lots of bombs. you should go with at least a gold pickaxe bc iridium nodes take a while to mine. you can also use bombs to speed up the process.
3. food. you should carry at least 2 types of food, buffing food and healing food. buffing food can be to increase your luck level and speed, i recommend pumpkin soup and lucky lunch for luck, spicy eel for speed, and the most important, triple shot espresso for speed. your healing food must have no buffs and have big healing numbers, you can buy lots of salads or use cheese.
4. luck. always go on a best luck day (check ur luck on the tv) as it increases ur chance of getting better stuff.
5. staircases. you need to have LOTS of staircases as the rewards are better the deeper you are. the desert trader trades one jade for a staircase on sunday, so slowly start growing a crystalarium farm where you can grow copies of jades to trade for staircases. i recommend you carry at least 80 staircases on your first run if you want to make it worth your while.||
