1 - amd driver support for linux is great already, nvidia started to catch a little in the last year or so but overall not bad at all and not hard to configure anything on amd especially and forums is so helpful and always up to date
2 - linux is actually much more secure and it also have AV so it's good
3 - that can not happen because of how variant and widely different linux distros is, i mean for general and casual people ubuntu and mint is there but it can't turn into duopoly ubuntu is the most known linux distro but by far not the best to use and the user will find another if he needs something else, different kernels and flavors just makes it impossible cause they all gonan compete so hard

4 - yeah if it have good software support and just fit the casual people why not? people just need to move on from being npc and default to windows whenever they buy a pc or a laptop and know there's something else
5 - linux distros have to be open source lol? it actually makes it easier to patch any security threats and make custom solutions for different problems, it's already being used in 99% of the world servers even the one me and you are connecting to to talk on this platform so..yeah
6 - no linux distro is closed source and it will not be welcomed in the linux community, some are only for commercial use like red hat but they offer it for a price not free and it's for specific types of users so
7 - that's manufactures problems tbh but they will be able to solve it once a majority of people move to linux and find that they have to adapt or lose customers and customers means money
8 - that's what i'm saying if popular software became a thing on linux and supported it will a good option for casual users and a lot of people who use these software, and office monopoly

I've been using various distros of linux since about 2005 and the experience is getting better continuously. The biggest obstacles to mainstream desktop use are:

1. Configuration can be tedious. While there are some distros that deliver a very windows-like experience out of the box you will always find little inconsistencies and people are hyper-resistant to change.
2. Alternatives to windows-only software are not widely known, despite being extremely easy to install in most cases. Before people even switch you'll always be met with "but how will I X" even if the answer is just "OpenOffice also does that"

and having used OpenOffice and Microsoft Office extensively; OpenOffice is no worse than Microsoft Office.

I always hear about how other companies are "shooting themselves in the foot" while Valve sits back and rakes in most gamers when it comes to video games storefronts with Steam. I think they're large enough that it'd be hard to compete with them in the current day, as many have even tried, so my questions are:

1. What can a company do to make a storefront that competes with Steam? and
2. How feasible would it be, considering Steam's reputation and userbase size?

So I would say for 1 get as many big titles as possible and sell them at a discount if possible or do free games. For 2 I’m unsure. What makes steam a good platform is its reputation and ease of use. My second favorite launcher is Epic Games. They do free game sales often and have a good ui. But on the other hand I don’t go on there for anything else.

The first point would definitely draw in users, but I think problems arise on the profits side, because if you're undercutting the competition, it builds the expectation that your platform has better deals which is good in the short-term. Long-term, probably not, and if you tried to raise prices then you may receive backlash/lose users.

Ik epic games does it with the free games every week, and they can sustain it thanks to money from Fortnite and UE, but while they are included in the question, I'm thinking of like a whole new hypothetical storefront possibly

One of my favourite "behind the scenes" type of documentary was The Imagineering story over on Disney+. Really enjoyed to see the start of Walt and how his dreams became a reality while also showing everything that went into the park. Great watch

Disney introduced these hologram guides to the park and 5 teens got to be them. They then would wake up in the parks to see all the characters alive and have to put a stop to the Disney Villians. Felt like reading a 90's early 2000's disney film but in book form
