I have concerns about free-to-play models as well (I prefer a box price + DLC costs with no sub), but the bad parts of the model depend heavily on the company that utilizes it. S6 seems open to trying new things if their first ideas fail, so for now I have hope that they'll see how things go and change course if they go poorly.

I'd prefer if the quality of both were good, since I'm inclined to buy cosmetics to expand my collection, not necessarily upgrade it. For instance, there are some games I play where the starter gear is perfect for a character I've created and nothing in the shop comes close to being right, yet for another character my fashion goals could be completely opposite.

A good way to go about this is to have a sufficient 'baseline' cosmetic set that comes with the game and then periodically add others that you can get through various in-game tasks to promote long-term play. I expect they'll eventually have more things you can buy than things you can earn since that's how that kind of model usually goes, but as long as they pepper some in-game rewards along the way I think that's okay since it's the bulk of their income at that point.

Different people have different tastes though something that looks perfect for one might look incredibly tacky for another. So of they are on the same quality level I think the pay to own ones will probably still get bought because some people wont like the look of the free ones as it's not there taste not because the quality is bad

I've seen it done in games like Guild Wars 2, Champions Online, and co-ops that also have purchasable cosmetics, but maybe we have different definitions of quality? To me, quality means 'good visual representation of the intended cosmetic'.

So if it's a t-shirt, it should look like a t-shirt and not be blurry, grainy, or clip horribly compared to a shop t-shirt whose only differences are that it has a crisp texture and doesn't clip but otherwise looks the same.

GW2 also has DLC and other forms of Monetazing, Palia will, by what we know so far, rely solely on Cosmetics

and when I’m talking of quality i’m refering to the amount of artistic work each thing will have, I would expect all free cosmetic to be rather simplistic compared to paid ones

Not sure why I never saw it...looks like more fun than other similar games I played. Torchlight 1 and 2 looked promising, but just fell flat for me. Lost interest fairly quickly and it just wasn't fun...even though loot drops it just felt repetitive.

Looking forward to more on Palia...was fishing in Core Keeper and thought of Palia's fishing! I remember a fishing MMO I played years ago and it died off, but man it was fun just hanging out fishing with other players. lol

I have a different take on the cosmetic monetization I'd like to share. I believe the majority of the Palia clothing publicly shared so far is free in-game clothing, and the details alone are far from low quality in my opinion, and so much better than some hugely popular games today who slack off using 2D quality details, and still players have to pay for released packs to get them. Also recently, Palia shared some concepts of cash pay clothing which touted more of a refined look, which may appeal more to well off Palians, kind of like in IRL. However, I say all this to get to my personal view of why I will enjoy the free cosmetics in Palia as well as the pay cosmetics. I see it as a way for me to support this game and all the talented and dedicated people who are making Palia possible, which I'm hoping will release and be around for a very, very long time; and that will take funding to make that even possible. The creation and maintenance of Palia is how they will make their living, feeding and supporting themselves and their families, which is why I look forward to helping to fund this promising and beautiful looking game, however possible. It also means the players who are able to provide support by this type of funding will help to ensure Palia gameplay enjoyment and growth will be possible for many years to come, to the benefit of all players, even the ones who will only be able to play for free. This is how I see it, plain and simple. Go, Palia!!

I'm not saying they should sell furniture just the way it looks so you still have to craft say a chair but you can buy a skin for the chair like you can for a character...

Well considering this game is so focused on crafting and decoration, I imagine that styles will be something that is inherent to individually crafted items, so instead of building a chair, you build a gothic chair or a French bourgeois chair (and I'm not suggesting you haven't considered this). What I liked about your idea is the concept of selecting an option to re-theme your built items. Considering it's a building game, I imagine it would be something like you have to craft individual items that may fit a specific theme, then when you choose the re-theme option, it changes appropriate furnishing with items that fit the theme which you've already crafted.

The reason I never commented was because I had no intuitive idea of how to balance the point of spending time individually placing stuff, vs selecting pre-built themes. You could perhaps have loadouts or something, so you build a house with a specific theme and can save it.

As far as the idea of you buying skins with real money. I'm almost too drunk to think about this. I think individual sold items would be better, so it would inhibit the idea of you going to somebodies house and being like ''Oh they bought the aquarium theme'' or ''oh it's that same tee hee lol candy house theme that they bought''. Actually now I think on it, I am moving away from themes, though I still love your initial idea.

While the investor for Palia may invest in other projects that use crypto practices, digging deeper into their portfolio will reveal they sponsor well over 1,000 companies, each with their own unique monetization model that suits the philosophies of the individual company. They have been an incredible support for the original vision of our founders.

TL;DR:

We do not have plans for NFTs. Philosophically, we’re approaching it the same way as any technology: does it provide new opportunities for us to make a better game for our players (and are the costs worth it)? Today we’re confident that NFTs are not right for Palia.

what I feel helps is having just a li-i-tle bit too little sleep. Personally, I feel good at 8-9 hours, but I'm all right and a little sluggish at 7, but at least my head is in the right place. also, it helps to have a little notebook where you put up a check list for the day of 2-3 tasks you should do, and the important part is to get to those tasks immediately after you wrote them down

Outside of the main premise of the game ( community simulation mmo ) there was this from one of the main developers last year

Whether it will be there when the game is released or introduced as the games story leads to it is unknown.   But, being an optional aspect of the game it is likely not a  gameplay mechanic that people have to do to complete the main story.   Only time will tell when and how they incorporate it.

Yeah my last job I didn't like, unfortunately they were the only people who knew me enough to hire me .. during a year out of work looking for another job - 15 applications a week for a year - 3 interviews .. ended up going back to the job I quit from .. twice .. last time enough was enough .. too stressful for me

If they do their own wiki type documentation for some parts of the game it will likely be on the palia site. But exploration wise they have said they don't want the game to feel like you have to have a wiki open to play or put a whole wiki in the game - so sounds like maybe there will be some useful information we can access when we need but not everything.
