I'm low key devastated that breath of the wild 2 isn't out until next year. That was basically my main game of anticipation before I found out about Palia a few days ago

Having grown up with PC and mainly played PC (along consoles in my youth). Im like many PC gamers very picky when it comes to PING & FPS. The prospect of games being 30 fps is a concept foreign to me and it never wont be. I played Zelda however, and I -did- love it. Never managed to complete it. The game was amazing. But I will never be able to get into the lack luster hardware of mobiles and nintendo switch.

Yepp. Genshin impact was one of the most amazing games for a long time when it came out (initially). The world, exploration, music. It was all 10/10 for me. Until you finished the story and hit that actual gameplay of daily dungeon grinds, resin etc.

I think that's the biggest difference.

A focus on gacha/money making over quality content will yield more money short term. But without quality content, eventually your players will run out of things to do and stop playing. A good game will build a steady playerbase which can hold out for much longer.

I truly hope they make exploration rewarding in the game. I love the housing, crafting and such. But if there's one thing i love more than most things in games, it's exploring beautiful worlds.

I loved their answer on how they're planning on expanding the world more and more after release too. Seems like they got a good idea on how they want to expand the world.

What is everyones thoughts on the monetization? I made a post about my thoughts in #game-suggestions. But overall i actually DONT like f2p.

Simply because :

Either they become p2w or greedy somehow

Or simply put as f2p the only way you get an income is through mtx, which might (and often does) mean a lot content that could be added to the game through earnable and fun content, is instead put in a cash shop.

Would you rather buy a cool knight looking outfit or find it in a hidden cave ontop of a mountain?

I am quite against the idea that "f2p" is the ideal monetization these days. Very few f2p games, MMOs especially have ever been that good.

I myself am happy with what they have currently released regarding their plan. They currently promise that monetization will currently only be focused on cosmetics and cannot be used to earn things in-game that could be achieved other ways in the game. So if it's available in the game, it won't be sold in the shop. If it's in the shop, it can't be found in the game. They also will extremely limit the limited time items that cause people to buy out of FOMO.

It sounds great, they sound very fair. My only problem with this is that its almost too fair. Which means I'm afraid IF the game for some reason doesn't become HUGE. They might not get the amount of income needed for ambitious expansions/updates.

I'm if anything worried on THEIR behalf, less about ours. I want them to do well, and i fear f2p limits the potential gains whilst trying to be "fair" with the cash shop as they seem to be.

I will simply hope they know what they're doing, for i want to support this game. But i won't buy random cosmetics that i don't like just to support them.

With games like this, I tend to set personal expectations on how much money I plan to spend. I'm not a huge cosmetics guy myself. I could wear the same outfit for years and be ok, but I do want to support the game. I will probably pick a dollar amount (or an outfit amount) I plan to purchase each month and will kind of create my own version of a subscription...just a personal number that I come up with that fits my budget.

the problem that I see now is that if they change their minds and now say "No, we are going subscription" that will hurt more the game's population than anything rn
Gotta also think that this game is very non-traditional, the population of this game won't be the same as World of Warcraft, Runescape, or Guild Wars 2, or even of smaller dying games like Aion
I simply don't think they can really afford for their main form of monetization to be Subscription or even B2P, for the problem that the population will be minimally low

I think their ultimate goal is for players to meet and form lasting friendships through the medium of an online community sim. They are wanting to go F2P so that the doors of entry are extremely low and people of all walks of life will not struggle to get in game and start playing with friends

Oh don't get me wrong. Doing that would definitely be harmful. I actually think making it accessible is a good move especially considering how niche this genre is ATM.

I think f2p has the potential to get insane amounts of players if it lives up to their ambitions. Just look at genshin impact.

I do however want a potential optional subscription as long as they don't make the subscription too lucrative. But simply a sub for the fans who wants to and maybe they get a title, some different frame on their portrait and some cosmetic.

I'd love for something optional like that for us to directly support.them.

I'm a sub person myself .. so I aim to reserve x amount of cash as if it was a subscription for the game. This way I can make it an amount I can afford at the time rather than panic that I won't be able to play that month because I can't pay anything

During their monitization Q&A they answered that...they said this "There could be (a montlhy sub). We don't have the tech to support that. You could just buy something once a month. Maybe we'll allow that eventually, but for now e have no plans to support a monthly sub. If people are like I really don't wanna think about this and just have it be in the background, then maybe we could implement something like that. We don't want to dip into a state where we have an "OPTIONAL" sub that isn't actually optional.

The difference between good devs and bad devs is if they let those monetization ideas discriminate against their morals and philosophies.

If the game is even half as good as it looks to be, i am certain they will have a healthy amount of players to fund the game. One could possibly even argue a f2p with mtx is more.lucrative than a sub model due to the amount of people who cannot afford a sub or refuses to.

Non the less, i like subscriptions because it sets a sort of expectation of steady updates and content. Whereas f2p really depends on the income.

@orchid vortex the way i have seen some monthly subscription offers in a free-to-play game is that they give a few perks that aren't ground braking.
As an example (because I have NO idea what Palia is doing)
Let say Palia's pay to own customizations are reasonably priced with them ranging from 1usd upward with an average of 10usd for a single item. The 10usd would purchase in game platinum pieces lets say 10,000 of them. That is what you would spend on the items as a avatar.
The monthly subscription of 15usd a month "could" give you a small bump in platinum pieces lets say 17500, plus an additional couple of storage spaces (if storage is limited) or a special tag or color for you player's name. This would represent the Subscriber. ONLY some bland suggestions.
But this would still allow anyone, 'free-to-play' or 'subscriber' to purchase more platinum to keep adding to their hoard that they could spend at anytime and/or wait for actual in game sales.

I don't know, I think it works; you're greeting someone or multiple someones by whatever time zone they may be in. It's a silly thing that was started to make sure we don't have to say morning/afternoon/evening when we don't know what time of day it is for the folks we're speaking to.

Personally I don't think there was a huge problem with just saying "good morning" if it's morning for you and "have a good evening" if you know it's evening for the person you're talking to, and "good day" if it's a general term to everyone around. But also, I think fun, silly group-specific terms are kind of the glue that hold a community together sometimes, depending on how they're used.

It's just a way to say "hey" that honestly I don't see used anywhere else, and that makes it fun to be here; at least for me.
